We originally booked our Destin vacation through a different management company. Shortly after booking, I received a message saying that AvantStay had acquired our contract and that everything would remain the same. A week before our vacation, we noticed on the AvantStay website that golf carts were available for an extra charge. Our original booking included a golf cart. I went back and forth with Jayson at AvantStay about this and was told that they acquired our booking, but golf carts were not part of the acquisition. He originally offered to do us a favor and pay for half the cost of the golf cart rental, which we were not happy with because it was included in our original contract. After a couple of days going back and forth, he said he had approval to rent the golf cart so we would not be out any additional charges. On our drive to Destin, about a half hour away, I received a message stating that the golf cart we rented was in the shop for repairs and would not be available. I called AvantStay to find out what was going on. The person who answered was very difficult to understand and could only read the message to me that I had already received. She said there was no manager for me to speak with. She would not listen to anything I had to say or asked and just kept talking over me. She then hung up on me. I did not use any fowl language, but did raise my voice with her because I was extremely frustrated and not getting answers. When I tried to call back, no one would answer the phone. We ended up renting a golf cart on our own through another company and it was at the house when we arrived. Why couldnt AvantStay do the same? I think Jayson just told me what I wanted to hear when he said they would take care of renting the golf cart and had no intention of it actually happening.When we arrived at the house, the pool was dirty and looked like it had not been cleaned in some time (dirt on the bottom of the pool). The local host did bring over a skimmer for us to use but that did no good with the dirt that had settled. He made no attempt to clean it for us. The pool vendor did not come to clean the pool until that Tuesday (we arrived on Saturday) after I asked again when the pool would be cleaned. The hot tub did not work but that worked out for us becuase my grandkids loved using it as their kiddie pool. The pool itself, although dirty for the first three days, was nice and plenty of room for our family of 18 to spread out.Inside, we had plenty of space to spread out but had a few issues. We had 1 bath towel per person and only 1 wash cloth per bathroom so not everyone had a wash cloth. They did provide laundry detergent, but who goes on vacation expecting to have to wash towels every single day? A couple times due the week, maybe, but not every day.In the kitchen, there werent enough forks and spoons for everyone when we sat down to eat. In a house that can hold 24, there should have been at least that many sets of utensils. The refrigerator was a good size, but the ice from the door did not work and the freezer drawer was very difficult to open and close. The local host came and looked at the drawer and said it was just ice built up, but as much as we used it, it never got any better.In one of the 1st floor bathrooms, the ceiling was mildewy and had a leak the one day it rained. The third floor smelled very musty even though we kept the ceiling fans running the entire time we were there.Despite all of this, our family had a great time. The kids loved the pool and we had plenty of room. I believe the issues we had at the house were due to poor management and lack of upkeep on the part of management.We booked a vacation based on what was descriped on the web site. We did not ask for the management change and had no control of that, but we did have a contract that we were told would remain the same. We paid alot of money for a week stay at Destin Oasis and expected it to be as advertised. We were very disappointed with the issues we had and the response from AvantStay.
