Spectrum Store

Truly terrible service. Internet goes out every time the weather gets warm. No customer service available when you have problems but they answer on the first ring when you call to add service. Deceptive advertisements disguised as bills clutter up my mailbox trying to get me to sign up for more services when the one service I have barely works. I would switch to another provider today if there was anything else available in my community. Currently shopping to leave spectrum.

Hot Pot, Hot Pot
120 S Atlantic Blvd, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
Came here with a friend to celebrate her new job.  Shes not as sensitive to MSG as I am, but she is allergic to chicken broth unless its made from stewing chickens (as Hot Pot Hot Pot does).  The waiter confirmed that they used stewing chickens for the broth and thank goodness they werent lying because I didnt want to witness my friend going into anaphylactic shock.

FOOD:

I just loved the no MSG broths they serve here!  Id been dying to try the medicinal herb based hot pot soups since seeing them advertised in Japan.  We ordered the spicy broth plus the original broth, which was served in a partitioned Yin/Yang hotpot. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the SPICY BROTH, it contains ginger, green onions, chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns and various medicinal herbs (Goji Berries, Lotus Seeds, Jujube Chinese dates, etc.).

Started off with the SCALLION CRISPY PANCAKE APPETIZER and it was delish!

Meat was so-so -- my personal preference is to use Angus or American Wagyu type of meat when doing Shabu Shabu hotpot at home.  I believe the SLICED BEEF and SLICED LAMB were probably frozen twice leading to some loss of flavor (the meat has to be at least partially frozen to run it through the meat slicer and then its plated and frozen again to eliminate last minute prep). I still enjoyed it though. We also ordered SHRIMP, OYSTERS, SHIITAKE MUSHROOM, WINTERMELON, BOK CHOI, ENOKI and maitake mushrooms.  I would not recommend the maitake mushrooms because like the meats, they were prepped and frozen in advance, thus altering the texture of the maitake into a chewy fibrous mass.ONE WORD OF NOTE:  While the broths are MSG-free, the sauces did contain a trace of MSG, but not excessively so (4 sauces offered at each table). They also dont have a condiment and sauce bar like some other Shabu Shabu and hotpot places, but I found the broths to provide more than enough seasoning.

As previously mentioned, the SPICY BROTH contains Chinese medicinal herbs.  In case youre curious do a search on the internet about herbs used in Chinese hot pot.SERVICE:
Staff was very attentive and patient in answering questions from two non-Chinese Westsiders. They refilled our water glasses, brought out new plates throughout the meal and packaged up leftovers including the 2 broths to go (extra props to Hot Pot Hot Pot for doing that!).

ATTIRE:
Come in wash and wear clothing because your clothes will reek of Chinese herbs after spending an hour here.

PARKING:
We went at the start of the dinner hour around 5pm, but their free parking lot might get full during peak hours since they share it with surrounding businesses.

Loved my meal -- major kudos to Hot Pot Hot Pot for going the no MSG route.

Raising Canes Chicken ...

Overall good food and Im happy that this corner on Atlantic finally has some competition for quick food. Carls Jr and Taco Bell essentially have a monopoly on the corner along with the gas stations but thats another story.Because theres no competition theres no incentive to provide a quality product Carls Jr and Taco Bell are both awful experiences relative to their other restaurants. Raising Canes blows them out of the water in terms of service, food, the quality of the food, and the overall experience.Im happy to put money in their pockets for what they provide. Just some feedback, I understand you just opened but get a supply chain / process improvement expert to design the layout for picking up food for internet orders and try and restructure the drive-thru queue it seems a little sketchy for the traffic on Atlantic.Aside from that this is a great restaurant, Happy staff, clean, great food! All of these qualities are severely lacking in this area at other establishments. Thank you Raising Canes and thank you to the owner, you will do well!
