Very nice repair! I had a not-too-old HP laptop that was having problems with Windows 10 updates and it was using 100% of my disk space when Windows systems (like Updater) were running. Sam did a number of diagnostics, communicating with me via text the whole time, and determined the best course to take. He updated the BIOS, backed up all my data (which was in many places/folders/files), replaced my hard drive with SSD, did a new install of Windows 10 and recovered all my data. All in a reasonable amount of time and for a reasonable price. The laptop runs great now - no more slowdowns or overloaded main drive, CPU or memory. He also recommended some regular diagnostics to run to keep my laptop healthy. Very satisfied with the repair.

Friend of mine recommended this place when my laptop wouldnt boot up. Got a fairly quick diagnostic and was told my SSD was in bad shape. Sam replaced it for me and the labor plus replacement cost about $180. Couldnt get any data out of the original drive but Sam was very kind to offer other places that could do data recovery. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and very happy to have my laptop in working condition again.

This is the best computer repair store in san diego. I had a problem with my laptop that best buy said they could not fix and would cost more than a new computer and every computer repair shop in san diego said takes 2 weeks to fix. Great service. Built an expensive custom PC. Made a slight mistake while installing the cpu and damaged a few pins in the cpu socket. PC would not boot. Went into this shop and had my PC booting the next day! Owner fixed the pins and even install windows and ran a few test to ensure the PC was stable! Would definitely recommend this spot

I took in a Lenovo laptop with one hinge disconnected from the screen. There was a previous reviewer with the same issue. Apparently, this is a very common problem with inexpensive laptops. I am very happy with the repair. The price was fair. I would go again if I need to have any computer repair.

Called every place and the prices on fixing my screen here were SO MUCH lower than the rest. The person helping even helped me save more money by offering alternate solutions to my laptop issues. If you need any tech done give this guy a call because it’s cost friendly and he’s very efficient. My 2018 MacBook Pro stopped working and the Apple Store told me the logicboard had a problem. I looked up the problem and it was common for the motherboard of this model of Mac. They quoted my $800 and that was a hard pass.I contacted a dozen places in town including some of the highest rated places in San Diego and they all quoted me around $375 and “$50 for a diagnostic check”. Spending $4-500 to fix a 6 year old MacBook didn’t make much sense so I kept looking.I called SD Computer Repair and the gentleman on the phone was extremely transparent, honest, and upfront about his pricing. He looked online to find me the best price on the motherboard I needed and quoted me a price half the amount of the top competitors in town. I brought the computer on Saturday at 4pm and he ordered the part and called me Monday at 4 to let me know it was all complete!This will be the only tech repair place I will ever visit and I will definitely be recommending this place to all my family and friends! If I call ahead of time, I can drop it off one morning and pick it up the next.2.Done Right: All repairs and replacements have functioned correctly because the whole process was done correctly. Ex.He backed up my device before doing repairs that cut backup power. I never have a repair that results in more problems down the road.3.Customer Service: 9 months after a keyboard replacement that they performed for me, my Amazon-sourced replacement MacBook Pro keyboard malfunctioned. I told them my situation, and while I looked for my receipt in email and bank record, their staff looked up my name. We failed to find me because I hadnt provided an email, but they replaced the keyboard with a good used one overnight and had it back to me by 11am. Thats mature business etiquette; they take pride in their work.4.Location: My wish is that this team was more closely situated to the cluster of colleges and Universities in San Diego. They might move in the future if rating systems like Yelp @yelp #yelp and Google Maps @googlemaps #googlemaps allowed then to carry their reviews and search engine preference when they move locations. To the reviews they were true he found my problem with my computer in less than 24hr and was able to fix it in the next two days. This place was a bit difficult to find using my car’s gps but I’m glad I persisted (btw, turn in driveway just pas Starbucks and drive straight to where there’s a second floor of shops and you’ll see it perched up there to the right of the staircase)! Small, family-run computer shop that is reasonable, honest and technically proficient. I took in my 8 year old laptop inherited from my daughter that was VERRRY slow and had sticking keys. I was quoted less than $300 for a new replacement keyboard and 1TB hard drive, with the additional service of moving all my files to an external drive and then replacing them on the new one. In the process of repairing, my motherboard went bad. They ordered a replacement motherboard that still didn’t work, so needed to purchase another one. It took a little longer than originally expected, and when I went to pick it up, I offered to pay for the new motherboard and they wouldn’t let me pay any more than my original quoted price. While repairing the laptop, he also noticed my old dysfunctional battery was swelling and offered to replace it for $40 including labor. I now have a “new” computer that’s screaming fast for $300. When I went in to pick up that computer, I brought my other computer that I was concerned had been hacked. He ran some diagnostics for me and was able to assure me that there wasn’t a problem. The cost for that? NOTHING - no extra charge. What a gem of an establishment!

Wish I could give this place 10/5 stars, they were extremely fast and affordable. I brought my computer in to Sam after I messed it up trying to install a CPU myself. He identified that there was thermal paste in the motherboard and made sure everything else was still working. He replaced my motherboard and also installed a new graphics card and power supply I bought, and it all came out to 110 dollars. For the amount of work he did I felt this was more than reasonable.Sam was also very communicative, texting me as he was working on my PC to give me updates. And the service was very fast. I dropped off my parts and he texted me a few hours later saying it was ready for pick up the next day.Definitely come here for your PC repairs. I know Ill be back if I have any issues

Geek squad and a few other family owned places that I took my laptop to told me it was unfixable because the charging port (which is what broke) is connected to the motherboard. I was so lucky to find SD Computer Repair. I noticed they offered a free diagnosis so I chose to bring my laptop to them. I guess it’s never convenient when your computer stops working but this was especially a tough time to have it stop working. I was worried about how much it would be or if I would have to buy a new computer.I called before business hours but still received a text right away asking me how they can help me. Excellent service, came in with my laptop which had a dead SSD, was given a diagnosis very quickly and the tech got to work on it asap. I got text updates on the progress of the repair. I even was able to buy my own parts (a new 1 TB SSD instead of the cheap 128GB one that the manufacturer installed) and it was installed for me the same day! Only took a couple of hours to get everything fixed and it’s like I have a new laptop after not being able to use it for months. Very reasonably priced, the Geek Squad at Best Buy quoted me 3x the price for the same fix. Very highly recommended, professional and honest repair shop!

The screen on my HP Envy 15t began flickering one day and half of the display would occasionally black out. I would have to squeeze the hinge area and move the display back and forth until the problem went away... but only temporarily. Eventually, 2/3 of the screen wouldnt display anything at all so I knew I had to seek help.Yelp led me to Sam and SD Computer Repair and I could not be happier with the experience. I brought the laptop in during my lunch break and Sam took one look at it and immediately knew what the issue was - the cables connected to the display ran through the hinged area and thus were prone to cracking after years of opening and closing the lid. He opened the laptop up, removed the screen and showed me damaged cables. He told me how much a replacement display would cost, encouraged me to look around to see if I could find a better deal in case I wasnt sure, and said he could order it for me and once it arrived in a couple days, have it installed right away. After some quick Googling, I was very comfortable with his pricing.The day the new screen arrived, Sam called me and said he could install it any time I wanted to stop by the store. I stopped by on my lunch break again and everything was taken care of in less than 15 minutes. Overall, the price was at least $70 lower than the next 3 competitors on Yelp and the professionalism, friendliness and honesty that Sam displayed made me a loyal customer. If anything happens to my phone or laptop in the future, I will definitely be coming back.

Then he fixed it up for me in one business day. They also sell replacement computer batteries (mine was completely dead and useless) and I bought one from them at an affordable price. I had an external hard drive that was about 8 or 9 years old that had important information on it that was seemingly broken. After doing a bit of research, I came across SD Computer Repair that had a good reputation according to its reviews.I brought the external hard drive to Sam on a Saturday, and by the following Tuesday, he had extracted all of the information I needed from it and transferred it to a USB stick! I started to do it myself but the replacement glass had 2 cables and the iPhone has 4. The video and instructions didnt mention this. I cracked my screen and contacted a couple places before letting SD Computer repair do the work. They were friendly and quoted a fair price to get my cell phone fixed. They fixed it in less than 2 days and I got my phone back in good working condition but something still wasnt right with the screen. I brought it back and SD Computer Repair said they would have to have the phone for a few more days to make sure and get the right parts for it. They fixed it completely to like-new condition, got it back to me in a timely manner, and didnt charge me any extra for the extra work! Very good company and staff! Thank You!!

I had a old laptop that fell,the screen was shattered from the fall. SD computer repaired it in just matter of couple days, and a very fair price.Not only that, my smart phone wasnt charging turns out one of the ports was damaged. The fan went out on my Dell Latitude, which was confirmed by the diagnostic. Took it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and asked about the cost to replace the processer fan. Said it would cost $99 for a diagnostic, and $85 to ship it to a service center, then it could take 3-8 weeks and recommended a new computer would be the best option. Since I already told them was needed (just replace the fan) it was obvious they just wanted to ring the cash register. Took it to San Diego Computer Repair and Sam quoted a cost to get and install a new fan that was less than Best Buys so-called diagnostic. He ordered a new fan, had it in the next day and had it installed in an hour. Couldnt be happier with their service, professionalism, and reasonable cost.

My last issue took me through 3 phone calls with three different sources thinking it was an internet problem, then a software problem, even Microsoft couldnt fix it. When it was obvious I needed a computer expert I took my laptop back to Sam and he figured it out in less than an hour! He replaced the hard drive making the 10 plus year old computer faster while preserving all my data. Wow. Great service. I wont go too deep into the story about the massive company that sells the product I needed help with treating me as if I were a criminal or something. Bottom line, that company doesnt want to service their machines or help customers at all. They would rather you go somewhere else. Well, I wish I had gone to SD Computer Repair before I wasted my time and energy at the flagship store at the mall. The owner and his wife were super helpful, kind and even stayed after closing to help me out. Truly what customer service is about. I accidentally dropped some water on my laptop and was so worried when it wouldnt turn back on. I initially shut it off and removed everything that was connected to it. I brought it in to SD Computer Repair since I couldnt get it to work and they said that it was a good thing I didnt wait any longer. Ive gone here thrice. The first, for a diagnosis and later a motherboard replacement. I have not had a single problem with the function of the motherboard since then. I suspected the hard drive in my iMac had crashed and in fact it had. Within 1 day it was official diagnosed, and in another day it was ready for pick up. I liked that the replacement recommendations were appropriate. For example instead of suggesting to replace with 1TB hard drive the recommendation was based on the amount of space the original hard drive had used so a 500 GB hard drive was installed. A bonus was the ability to retrieve all the data from the old drive. Everything was fast, very very very reasonably priced and professional. I dropped my iPhone this past weekend. The charger and speakers stopped working. I took it into apple waited over an hour to only be told that they arent able to fix my phone. My third review of Sam at SD Computer Repair (the other two on another platform)...and the experience just keeps getting better. Sam is just a hard-working guy who knows what hes doing, charges a fair price and has learned the art of under promising and over-delivering. Hes now fixed my third computer, replacing a HD with an SSD. The promised two day turn around turned out to be just over two hours and the computer was singing. In addition to the replacement, he gave me tips for prolonging the life of the [2010] iMac and some warnings about when it just wouldnt be worth fixing anymore. This was two weeks ago. Today I dropped in to see about getting some help getting an old iPhone 6 running that I couldnt get going since last year...but know would like to have for my daughter. All hope pretty much lost, I decided to see if Sam had any ideas. 20 min later, Im walking out of there with a fully functioning iPhone. Took my pc to Best Buy geek squad AND MPC Electronics and they both rejected me because i wanted an aio setup in a proprietary rig which i knew was challenging, but both best buy and mpc electronics tried to make me believe it was impossible. A friend of mine refer me here back in 2016 and I was very please to do business with Sam I also look up some reviews on google and yelp about this repair shop and they are all good reviews. I have came here for 1 Samsung Laptop repair, 1 iPhone 6 screen replacement, iPhone 6 power button replacement. And I was satisfied with all. But the last time Ill ever do business with this place is when I came for my home button/ booting issue. My home button has not been working properly a couple days before I brought it in the shop and the morning of I decided to take my phone apart to see what happened. After I put my phone back together and try to turn it on, but it got stuck at the Apple logo icon sceen, so I brought it in to the shop so Sam to take a look, first he explained that the home button wired has been ripped and OS system keep crashing when try to boot. So he replaced my button home for 25 Dollars and updated my OS 8 to to OS 10, the reason why I keep the IOS 8 is because my phone is jail broken and there are no current version of jail break for IOS 10. After he updated my phone to IOS 10 my phone works again. And I was satisfied with the service. Until later on I realized he CHARGED ME $30 for IOS update. I could have done it my self at home for free, if he really valued his customers he should not have charge them for a simple IOS update. That was a dishonest move by Sam sorry but Ill take my business somewhere else.

I came to this place for the reviews I found here. Im leaving this comment so nobody makes the same mistake.The first time (February) we went there, was to change my husbands MacBook power cable... They gave us two options: the Mac original for $50.00 and a copy for $30.00. We wanted to play it safe and bought the original. They gave us a one month warranty.The second time (April), we went to fix my laptops power jack... Which was fixed, but they stained the exterior and the screen with super glue. When I asked about it, they played it coy and pretended not to understand why this was an issue. It was cheap ($45.00), and I got what I paid for.Last couple of months my husbands Mac started acting up, we took it to a Mac Genius last week and found out that the original power cable SD Computer Repair sold us was a fake. No wonder they gave a month warranty. Luckily the computer didnt get fried...Dont waste your money with them, they are not honest people and they dont do their work properly.

Go here, not Geek Squad.Great experience! A bit difficult to find (second floor across from McDonalds) but once you get there youre in good hands. I went in because the screen on my four year-old laptop wouldnt turn on. They immediately knew what was wrong, overheated video card. The owner told me he could fix it by replacing the video card, but it would only be a temporary fix as the problem would happen again eventually. He recommended I get a new laptop and said he could transfer the data from the old laptop to the new one.The following Saturday I bought a new laptop and brought it in the transfer the data (the guy at Fryes said he couldnt do it without the screen turning on). It was about 3:58PM when I walked in to SD Computer Repair, and I noticed their sign said they close at 4pm on Saturdays. I didnt want to inconvenience the guy (family-owned/operated business), so I said, sorry to come in so late, are you closed? He said no problem and offered to help me anyway. He pulled the hard drive out of the old laptop and transferred the data from my old computer to the new one, which took about 45 minutes due to the amount of data on my hard drive. Then he asked what I was planning to do with the old laptop. I said I would probably just recycle it. He offered to trade his fee for the old laptop to use for parts. Great trade for me. Best Buy gives you a $10 gift card for recycled computers, but by giving it to SD Computer Repair I saved $30-$40 out of my pocket (dont remember the exact cost because I didnt end up paying anything).Next he showed me how to use my old hard drive as an external hard drive and walked me through how I needed to reformat it. He also did some minor setup on the new laptop to make it easier to use.And then came the big one. I mentioned that my wife is having an issue with her brand new ASUS laptop from Best Buy. She spent a ton on this laptop and bought the extra warranty. When she brought it home the wifi would periodically cut out. She called our cable company who came out and replaced the wireless router, but it didnt fix the problem. She took it in to Geek Squad. They ran a test for a few hours and told her it didnt cut out so they couldnt fix it. She told them that wasnt acceptable and they needed to keep working on it. They ran the wifi overnight (at Best Buy) and it never cut out, so they told her the only thing they could do was to come out to the house and try to troubleshoot there for a $50 fee. They also mentioned that they only covered hardware issues. So much for the warranty. We said forget that. The cable company said they would come out to troubleshoot but it would cost $50 as well. When I mentioned this to the SD Computer Repair guy he said it is probably the wifi card. He offered to take the card out of my old laptop and put it in my wifes laptop for $10. I said I would be back the next day. I walked out of there an hour after they closed having paid $0 to have all this work done on my computer and with a potential lead to fix my wifes computer as well.The next day I brought my wifes computer in. They replaced the wifi card in about 5-10 minutes. I tested it for 10 minutes in the store and it seemed to be working. I paid them $20 instead of the $10 they asked for because I was so happy with their service. I brought the laptop home and it works great.These guys saved my data and saved me $30-$40 on the transfer and $40+ on my wifes wifi issue. Best Buy sold us a very expensive laptop with a junky wifi card, conned us into buying a warranty, and then Geek Squad didnt know enough to figure out the problem and wanted to charge us to troubleshoot their own shoddy product. Dont go to Geek Squad, go to SD Computer Repair!
