I have been using FileMaker Pro for almost 30 years. I think that software which can continue to use only this is unusual.With commercially available software, every time the version is upgraded, I am worried about whether data will be handed over with the new version. In the case of FileMaker Pro, data has been handed over without any problems so far. My address book database is already over 20 years old.In the latest FileMaker, it is a great appeal to be able to create applications for Windows, macOS, iOS and web with one file, so it is highly recommended for everyone who wants to improve work efficiency.Because FileMaker is a wonderful company I think, they will be able to develop useful software with this longevity.

Over 20 years ago I was a computer sale person overwhelmed by too many clients and a burdensome quote and sales process. Another sales person saw my distress and handed my a copy of FileMaker Pro, saying, This might help. It helped me. I stayed up all night and wrote my first quote management system that let me create quotes while on the phone with prospects rather then the 30 minutes it took to write them by hand. I now develop custom solutions on the FileMaker platform full time for clients in just about every industry: sales, healthcare, manufacturing, legal, government, security, financial, software, non-profit, etc. FileMaker solutions run equally well on Windows, Mac and the iOS. I LOVE Filemaker! If they served cool-aid, Id drink it. In the late 90s, I worked for a company that took real estate listing data from several sources and then built monthly booklets of real estate listings, sorted by town and price. We did this for metropolitan areas of a dozen or so states. Listings came from MLSs, faxes and emails. They were input directly, or imported, into Filemaker, the data was massaged for formatting consistency and then output to Quark Express for printing.My company morphed into a Real Estate Website developer. We built our invoicing, and customer service, and commission reports all in Filemaker. We sent out over 70,000 email a night to the home-seeking, or home-selling, customers of our real estate professional customers. I managed the bouncebacked emails primarily with Filemaker to keep our sending email server reputation squeeky clean.All our listing data was stored in MS SQL. It was pretty easy to set up an ODBC connection to our SQL database and do customer updates directly from our Filemaker database.I could go on and on and on.
Filemaker is an awesome platform for small to medium size business. Development time is good and my clients are happy they can have their own custom solution to fit the way they work and Filemaker allows this to happen.
With FileMaker you can create your own custom app very quickly and without a lot of coding knowledge. I think it is a fantastic tool that can help a lot of small ( and even bigger ) organisations.

Modern FileMaker is a great way to build custom database apps for SMEs on the desktop (Mac/Win), Mobile (iOS) and Web.There is an intuitive graphical layout toolkit, built-in database engine and a simple scripting engine so that you can get going with a solution quickly. Large corporations can still find it a great rapid application development and prototyping tool as you can also use it as a front end for SQL database systems (i.e. MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL).

I tend to think of FileMaker as much more than a database development tool, in fact more like a Workflow Automation tool. There are frequently times when I am able to take an 8 hour manual process and turn it into a simple 2 minute Click a button type of process for a customer.I have also found it advantageous to use FmPro Migrator Platinum Edition to convert old Microsoft Access solutions into FileMaker to improve reliability, scalability and ease of use for customers.

2017-05-03 14:47:28Of all the companies and their software I deal with Filemaker is the only one Ive grown to love. I started using Filemaker Pro in 1996 basically out of necessity because it was the only database I could get to work in our environment. It saved a 24 location install. Since then Ive solved so many problems using their software and when necessary getting help from their internal resources and later the Filemaker Community. I seldom update my other software because they really dont add any new useful features. But Filemaker has always added new features that the Filemaker Community requests. Now that I do most of why work in Filemaker I consider the software and the company to be my unseen partners.

2022-07-15 21:10:48The unprofessional setup of a software update by Claris lost me work in other formats, therefore costing my employer valuable time. If your software requires the computer to restart for an update, then please state it upfront.My workplace requires multitasking, so I often have multiple programs open on my desktop simultaneously. I had to open Filemaker Pro, and it requested an update. In the past, I have been able to do this without trouble. This time however, Filemaker took it upon itself to restart my computer during a moment when I had to step away from my desk for a call. Among the open documents that closed for the restart was a paper that I was working on, and in the process of the restart my latest additions were not able to get saved.Claris needs to change its update system and specify that a product must restart the computer to update, should that be the case. Otherwise it costs company time.
