2024-06-19 22:39:32We stopped by Wangs for the third or fourth time. Last time we visited Palm Springs we had dinner there and it was spectacular and so we made it a point to come back and OMG what a mistake it was Im sorry to say. I took my wife and mother in-law. We made a reservation for 8:30pm and got there at 8pm. To our surprise the place was completely empty. As soon as we walked in we smelled an extreme Pine Sol smell, I guess someone decided to clean 2 hours before closing. The smell was terrible and a huge turn off for us. We were greeted by a young man and he walked us to our table. We could smell the Pine Sol all the way over there. Our waiter was the same young man. He was super nice and we ordered drinks to start. My wife ordered cocktails and they were good. We also ordered the Korean spare ribs for appetizer. These were not good. The ribs tasted like old meat and the sauce was way too sweet. We also ordered the Walnut shrimp, black pepper chicken, Mongolian beef and a combination fried rice. OMG where do I start!!! 😭The mongolian beef was extremely salty, the black pepper chick is supposed to be spicy and it was not, it was actually sweet as well but the worse thing about it is that it tasted as old meat. I mean, this was chicken but it was really hard as if it had been cooked before and reheated. The combination fried rice had no flavor whatsoever and it only had two very small shrimps. The Walnut shrimp tasted good but they only served like 10 or 11 shrimps and charged over $25 for it. Our waiter asked if we wanted steamed rice and we said yes. The white rice helped with eating the overly sweet and salty food. We were shocked that the food was so terrible. I told my wife I was heart broken because our dinning experience there was completely different before. Our check was painfully expensive because of the terrible food they served us. We ended up paying $200 plus tip. Needless to say we WILL NOT be coming back to Wangs ever again.

2024-04-17 02:08:23We went to try out Wangs in the Desert on our way home from Coachella. We wanted something yummy after a weekend of festival food! We started with the beef skewers as an appetizer and they were amazing. Im not a huge beef person, but these had great flavor and were very tender. For our main course we got yellow curry, which had big flavor, but spicy was mild. Garlic chicken which had a good amount of flavor and chicken, the snap peas were delicious. We also got the lo mein with chicken. The noodles were done perfectly and this was my favorite. Everything we ate was really good and since it was family style, the portions were big enough for my husband and I to both get our fill of each dish with some to take home for later! For dinner we had the green tea ice cream and banana wontons. They both were good but the banana wontons were to die for, I will be ordering those anytime we come back, and we will be back.

2024-06-03 23:10:33General Asian-inspired dishes? Yep.Live DJ and dance floor? Yep.Authentic Chinese food? Nope.I laugh at myself for hoping there was good Chinese food in the desert. I also laugh at this places attempt to make Chinese food. If I were born in China, I would be mad at their attempt to make Chinese food. Its pretty bad.Service was good. People were nice. They brought out our to-go order very quickly. The food was so wrong though.pad see ew - eatablestir fried tofu - passablecombination appetizer - only the skewers were goodchow mein pan fried noodles - despicablechilled peanut noodles - grossChow mein pan-fried noodles was not edible. The noodles (they used wrong noodles, btw) were rock hard, and the separately packed sauce was not enough get through all the noodles. The chilled peanut noodles had a sauce that was like eating coleslaw with raisins. It had no peanut flavor or even a hint of brown color. The only thing passable were the skewers, and even those were too sweet.

2024-03-22 04:57:30So Chinese food in Palm Springs is lacking, so I really do want the recently reopened Wangs In the Desert to succeed. But Ive got to be honest in writing this review. Hopefully mgmt. will read it and make some improvements.First, Ill talk about the atmosphere and service:Upon entering the host person was very nice and escorted us to a table for two. Unfortunately the table was set between the kitchen entrance and the bathroom hallway. So we were constantly skirted by staff going in and out, and also the host stopped at our table 3 times during the evening explaining to people where the bathroom was. There is an illuminated wall next to this badly placed table (see pics), which should just be eliminated altogether given the amount of traffic that flys around this table. And the fact the restaurant was only about 20% occupied, we could have been seated elsewhere. The overall inside dining room is quite dark, especially in the back of the restaurant; overhead can lights are very dim. One table of four was seated in the back and they constantly had to wave the waiters down for everything. Our service was actually good, our waiter was very hospitable but apologetic several times about the delay. Seemed to be the general mood at other tables.Menu and food:Upon looking at the menu, there were no beverages listed anywhere on the menu odd and we were not given a drink list of any kind. I assumed they had soft drinks so I just ordered that to be safe. The lemon lime soda arrived in a small glass about 1/3 the size of the water glass, had to ask for refills. The prices (see pics) are quite steep, so I began to think this may be some really great Chinese food! The hot and sour soup was good, although fairly standard. We ordered two spring rolls, ($9.00 for just two) that while crispy and delicate on the outside were gooey/slimy inside. I had the Kung Pao chicken, which had a fair amount of chicken, peanuts and bell peppers, that was good tasting but it had a huge amount of onion. The ratio of onion to the other ingredients was too much. Companion had Mandarin Pork, the menu said wokked pork that had a coating of bread crumbs or corn starch of some kind that wasnt mentioned on the menu. They felt it was fine but heavy on the sweet side.Overall, it wasnt a great dinner. In the end with two sodas, soup, a small appetizer and two main dishes, tax and tip it was well over $100 No alcohol drinks either!I will go back perhaps in a couple months to see if theres been improvement in some areas, maybe request to sit on the back patio in good weather instead of the dark cavern inside. Would I take my friends there? Nope, there are much better Asian food places in Palm Springs... but with a little menu tweaking, and atmosphere design upgrades perhaps Wangs could fill the Chinese category so badly needed in Palm Springs? And maybe elevate themselves to equal the prices they expect.

2024-05-09 05:05:44The food was insanely overpriced. Was told the entrees were large enough to split but half the plate was broccoli. This plate was $26. Also very dark could barely see what we were eating. Paid in full but would definitely not go back

2024-04-09 06:45:36My partner and I had a great experience at Wang’s. We were treated warmly and the staff were thoughtful-even turned up the lights in the dark and intimate dining room so we could see better. Very good food. Generous portions. Very good service. Intimate, cozy atmosphere and very good music, low key but lovely which fostered conversation. We will recommend to others and wish Wang’s well!

2024-06-23 01:19:38The decor is very a lovely Asian theme with a wonderful stream od water flowing through the center. Food is served hot and steaming. I had the Mushrooms Aspergus and Chicken. It was delicious! The Bloody Mary I had was just right for my taste! The waiter was attentive and very personable. His service was efficient warm and professional.

2024-04-02 05:40:23I ordered a chicken stir fry for $28??! Waitress apparently didnt know how to use computer so our tables order was never put in. Over an hour later, a manager-type comes to apologize and brings us a cup of soup. We then waited another 45 minutes to get our stir fry while other tables were served ahead of us. In the end, the food is ordinary, expensive (even by Palm Springs standards), and service was abysmal. Manager offered 50% discount on the meal, but never explained nor apologized for it taking an additional 45 minutes after the first ordering mistake. There are better, more reasonably priced Asian restaurants in Palm Springs.
