I’m a little torn on this one. The employees have been very kind and the store is clean and organized, however, it’s insanely expensive up here. Things I pay $2.50 down the mountain for are $5-$6 up here in Big Bear. I live up here and honestly try to do bulk shopping when I’m down the mountain because of it.The lines tend to be very long even when there’s time to anticipate substantial amounts customers because of holidays etc, the store never has enough folks at the register and I feel so bad for the people that are up there rushing to get customers checked out.If you’re traveling and spending your holiday here, I’d advise you do all of your shopping before you come up here.

I want to thank the Bakery Team for making our wedding cake, everyone was impressed and kept asking where we had our cake done because it was so good. The bakery said the cake was a little late, and they threw in some extra cupcakes but everything went on schedule! Thank you so much for making our cake - it was what I always wanted - I HIGHLY suggest Vons for your Wedding cake, and the coconut was delicious!

Been shopping here 21 years. Generally very good selection of food. However, they have eliminated many items and brands I have purchased for years. Many items are constantly out of stock. Management has been changed so many times in the past few years after a GREAT manager, Ron, left.However, they still have great customer service. The staff is better than most stores. Very friendly and helpful.

I was overcharged $3.25 on 2.71 lbs. of red yams. I gave the cashier the PLU of the items, but he insisted on looking up the code himself. He rang me up for sweet potatoes, which look very different and insisted that the savings reflected on my receipt was for the yams-wrong! Vons needs to do a better job training their cashiers by giving them weekly produce test in order that they do not violate weight and measure laws. They can expect a visit from that department!

I’m tired of getting in line when there are only 2 checkers. I know that you have lots of business so why does the manager neglect the check out process. It is said all over town about how awful it is at Vons with not enough checkers. I live here the clubs that I belong to all mention it. Same thing where are the checkers. Many of us seniors don’t want to use self checkout. Could someone please advise the manager to schedule more checkers. You are not saving money by having unhappy costumers.

Every last minute Thanksgiving vacation item I needed I was able to find here. Bonus being my old Vons membership was still in the system (its free to sign up, just need a phone number) and it saved me $22 on a $177 grocery bill. Only down side, California forces them to charge you for plastic bags.

Get it together Big Bear Vons. Busy time for shopping and there’s only 2 checkers open. No self check out available. The line literally wrapping around the store. 30 min wait in line to buy a few groceries. Next time I’ll be going to Stater Bros.

Went to the butcher and he was super helpful and kind. Cracking jokes and all! Which is great to have when your working with customers. He seemed to know his cuts of meats. He was a older Caucasian male, hope he gets the recognition at work for him being super helpful!

1 Pro 1 ConDont deal with Richard the 53 year old cashier if your English has a heavy accent.Heres the story. I took a Japanese Pro Snowboarder who was invited to Bear Mountain for snowboarding. We arrived at the Vons establishment. We had a question about certain Asian type of items. We asked Jason who was working extremely hard and was very busy restocking the produce in the produce section. Jason went above and beyond trying to accommodate even found similar things that would might work since Vons didnt have what she was looking for. Jason 5 STAR customer service.Now time to talk about leaving Vons. We got Richard a (1 star experience). We showed up with one guy already almost done and we stood there very patient how he was explaining how he graduated in 1988 the same year as his friend who earned a 1 star. How his friend lives in Florida and is retired. How his friend is 53 cause hes the same age hahaha thats how I know he is 53. How his friend is in great shape for his age. Very friendly. Its fine didnt bother us. It bothered me when he said rudely I dont understand her. I said she is counting out the 46 cents in change. Keep in mind I just sat there for 3-5 minutes waiting for him to finish his conversation and we had 4 items and were paying after 30 seconds of being rung up. She was getting the 6 cents in pennies and he rudely starts grabbing the change to 46. Not the way she wanted it. Keep in mind I always greet people by their name if they have a name tag. When I leave if I know their name I say thanks and their name. So even when this gentleman Richard was being very rude. I said politely thanks Richard and no response. Either he is racist against people that dont speak English the way we do which has to be cause he was very kind to the latin kids behind us who spoke with no accent. I will be calling to make a complaint as well. Ive never done that in my life. So I shall see

Worst customer experience. Its hard enough to shop in Big Bear with it being overrun with tourists. (Hey tourists, you can shop at home and bring your own food). I wanted to use my e-gift card, but apparently, to prevent fraud, they do not accept them scanned from a phone. Gift cards have their own unique QR code and card number. Tell me how printing it on paper or scanning it from a phone makes a difference? Not only could I not use my gift card, which is the same as CASH, I was treated incredibly rude. The cashier IMMEDIATELY had an attitude, saying she could not scan my phone and jumped up to get the manager. Who then told me about the fraud theory. No where does it say you need to print a gift card to use. It specifically says you can scan from your phone. You cant use it at self check out, online, on the app, and apparently not even in store. So tell me, how am I supposed to use this gift card?

The store was clean well stocked and the employees were very nice and professional. They were respectful and professional with me in regards to my mask exemption. I was welcomed checked out with no issues or problems.Great customer service experience here. If you are like me and CANT wear one youll likely be respected and treated like a human being deserving of the same level of respect and professionalism as those who do wear one. 8 billion people live on earth and some people really believe NO ONE has a reason NOT to wear one, especially those who only listen to mainstream media 🙄

Went in with my sisters last night while on vacation and had an easy experience finding most of the things we wanted. When it came time for us to check out I noticed the person behind the register did not say a single word to us at all during our entire experience. We were not greeted when we approached the counter, we’re not verbally told our total, I asked him a question and he stared at me blankly smiling. I made light of it until I noticed he was having a gran ol time with the white couple behind us as we were leaving. Not sure if it was the masks or the brown skin that threw him off but someone def needs a retraining

Clean store and very friendly, helpful employees. Even though most of the employees on the floor were stockings shelves, they did not hesitate to take time to show us where to find items and walk with us there. We were there close to 11 pm, their closing time. There were two open checkout Lanes, one of the lanes was score customers with 15 items or less. I was worried we would be in line for a while because the line was long and went to one of the Isles . I was surprised that we did not wait very long and the cashier was very quick and efficient I wish I could remember her name. Good shopping experience.

Nice store but DONT go on Christmas day. Every line was completely down the entire aisle. Self check it line was 3/4 the way down the aisle. They were running out of a lot of things but thats because we are expecting 4-12 inches of snow tonight.

Its beautiful, big, clean, great selection. The customer service was great! Nathan was super helpful! He went above and beyond. I dropped a whole 18 pack of eggs. He jumped to replace them then immediately cleaned my spill. He helped me with my shopping carts as well. I had a huge order.Im glad I chose this place.

Don’t come here if you’re in a hurry.. lines are too long.. they only have like 3 registers open when they have about 16 other employees there… go to StATERS across the street they quick & usually have more than 6 registers open so you’re inN OUt in no time plus they’re variety in products is a lot better than Vons .. since I’ve made the switch I’ve been a lot happier

With the exception of one checker (Clyde needs a performance review) who was very rude to my friends who were checking out with their daughter while he threw there items down the conveyor belt, everyone here is very friendly. The lines were really bad for about 6 months, but now theyve added self check out and seems the flow has improved. They also have a better selection than Stater Brothers as well as a lot of hot ready made dinner items.

The first job I ever had was as a box boy for Vons. It was a family market then. I even shop there in years, I was truly shocked at the prices compared to other stores, in the lack of service. Few registers were open in Lions had three to four people. Its not the Vons I remember and its too bad it was a great place to start my working life at 16.

I was very happy to see this place was decently stocked and was not too crowded. I was worried when I found out Stater Bros across the street was under construction. It must not be affecting the in store experience since they are open. After reading some blogs I was worried it would be slim pickings. They had lots of water and a fair amount of meat selection. I was able to get a birthday cake too since we came up to celebrate a family members special day. The store was clean and orderly and the checkout area was clearly marked.

I tried the drive up n go. It was worth it. You order online, call them when you get there, show them your ID and they bring you your food!! It was wonderful. No touching or going into the store!! I got to deal with Paul who was very patient and kind. I tried to give him a tip, unfortunately he said they werent allowed to accept them. That was a bummer. I will be doing this again.

Very poor customer service. Stopped at Vons early on a Saturday morning, grabbed a grocery cart and proceeded to fill it. When we were ready to checkout there were only 3 cashiers working with 10 checkstands available. The line backed up completely into the produce department. We took one look and left our cart and left the store. This store has a management problem in my opinion.

I went Labor Day weekend and I know stores can get especially busy due to the holiday but this store was on another level of busy. Literally had about 3 checkstands open and the self check out. Im sure during normal times, not holidays, that it would be just fine. The lines were 3/4 of the way down their aisles and continued to grow. Let me mind you that the aisles are pretty long. People in line were complaining and I saw a couple of people leave their groceries and leave. By the time we got up to the check stand we had a supervisor that was checking us out. I cant remember her name but if Im not mistaken it started with a T. She was talking over their radio system and was literraly yelling about employees, times they were off, lines and what have you. I found it unprofessional and I do understand that it was busy but they store should have been better managed especially with it being a holiday weekend. Also when the checker, the supervisor, was bagging our groceries, she put eggs on the bottom of the bag and put heavier stuff on top. The other bags werent well packed either. If you go during the holiday weekends or during holiday season, I would let you know, you will be waiting for a while.

Theyve got all the groceries you need up the mountain! AND, there are vegetarian and organic options. 😁 Friendly staff. I also like that lately, all staff are wearing masks. One staff actually asked a customer to wear their mask. In BBL, it is common to see only about 50% of people in masks, so I appreciate it.

We usually stop into grocery stores while traveling to get a hot lunch. This Von’s has hot chicken and potato wedges, but no other hot food. No mashed potatoes, veg, Mac and cheese, etc. They also do not have a grab and go section with sandwiches/subs/wraps. I also did not see a grab and go beverage section. But I did see one with alcohol. I chalk this up to being a smaller store.But the deli employees were very nice and the store seemed well stocked and clean.

This place is nuts! There are so many people and the lines are crazy, but I was impressed that it was pretty well stocked (except for the marshmallows) and the self check out moved quickly with the help of the cashier assigned to help us all. I do with they would have sanitized the checkouts after each person, but I guess that would have slowed down the lines.If you can handle zombie like tourists wandering in front of you and can zig zag with your cart to miss hitting them, this is your place.

I went into Vons in Big Bear on Saturday 7th of August and I was appalled at the Clutter Isles. Ive stopped at Vons where I live and I never seen such a mess and so much difficulty getting down the aisles and still social distancing no. There was boxes of products sitting out in the aisle making it almost impossible if not impossible to walk down an aisle to get what you mean I had to travel around long way just to get to the Isles that had the product at the end to pick up an item I need to take to the barbecue I was attending that day. It was a shame oh, and the checkout and register operator was not much better. She was very rude and acted like we were putting her out shopping at Vons. I didnt take down her name but Im sure there is a lot of people who felt the same way. Yes they were busy because of a bicycle tournament going on but thats no reason to insult customers are make customers feel like theyre bothering them. Therefore if I go up to Big Bear again I will shop my Vons and then go up there but I will not go to the Vons in Big Bear. It should be noted I used to be an employee of Alpha Beta Market and we would never treat our customers the way I was treated at that Vons Market.

The older lady cashier named Dana was blatantly racist towards my parents. As my dad waited in line just like everyone else, my mom went to look at the drinks. Once it was their turn to pay my dad calls my mom over, note she didnt bring any extra groceries she was just looking while my dad was in line. The cashier stops them and asks where they are coming from, she then proceeds to ask the people that were waiting behind my dad if my parents had cut them. Another older lady that was in line said they did but thankfully the rest of the people in the line (that were not also racist) backed up my parents and the cashier finally let them pay. Once my parents got back to the car my mom looked like she was about to cry and my dad was distraught. They told me what happened and since their english is not perfect they were not able to speak up for themselves. These employees need to learn how to be kind and how to treat everyone with human decency and respect no matter their skin tone or race. Very disappointed that this type of mistreatment is still going on in this day and age, no excuses.

The store is well stocked and the shelves are full of a variety of items. There is a deli/sushi section that serves great food. There is also a small Starbucks inside. The store can very easily become overrun with 6 or more people waiting in line at any given time.

Sales are mostly on Fridays. Beef and alcohol are expensive so get it beforehand. Chicken and pork are great buys usually. Produce is well stocked and fresh. Checkout lines are long Friday to Sunday.

Very poor customer service... I was in line at the deli for a good 10 mins as he was finishing up with the previous family. The deli guy skipped me and went to help out a woman instead. After he saw me arrive there before hand and even after he asked who was next, I said i was next. I took off and went to Stater Bros. They also dont carry a ton of the stuff I need.

Great staff,this place is the sixth circle of hell Friday thru Sun. Last friday waited 45 min literally to check out. Tourists pack the place its a demolition derby in the parking lot with giant tough guy trucks with 80,000 lumen off road lights blinding you and people all trying to merge through the intersection. And also Kmart closed in big bear this is about your only bet except for Stater bros across the street and they are as bad if not worse.

The Digiral Deals sound like a great deal, but theyre impossible to exercise. I tried loading the app, got the wrong one, it took my credit card and started charging stuff that had nothing to do with Vons. I had to cancel that card. I guess this influx of tourists is great for the local economy but a bummer for the locals. Bad time for Kmart to close. Worst grocery shopping experience I’ve had in my adulthood. There was one really snarky woman casually talking with other associates and making condescending loud speaker remarks of how there was only one lane open. Turns out there are a few open! (she might have meant for self check out but didn’t say it), I told my fiancé when we were 15 people deep in line that if she’d stop making rude-toned, unhelpful announcements maybe they could open more lanes. Once we got up to the check out, someone asked her where the line is ( she’s just holding a clipboard) and gawked at how long it was and said “Geeze Louise “ she said it back to them, mocking. “Yeah, Geeze Louise is right.” If this woman finds so much joy in actively working against people she should get a job as a supervillain. I’m so glad I don’t live in this town and do not have to deal with this stores gross attitude towards people who are just trying to pick up some groceries. If it were me I’d try stater bros right across the street!

Always have as few lines open as possible, which results in constantly having the longest lines possible. Have waited upwards of half an hour to get checked out. Truly a pathetic sight, the management here should be at least a little ashamed. Also, one of the guys in the deli likes to skip over people in line and decide who he should help first, making trying to get any warm foods an exercise in patience. Go to Staters, theyll actually pretend to care, at least.

Today I bought 4 stacking chairs but couldn’t get them into my car. Two different clerks tried to help me. So we took them back into the store for a refund. So I can go into how the pricing is bad or that it sometimes has just a couple people at the registers while there are people piled up waiting for sometimes 30 minutes, but honestly this place isnt the worst place up in Big Bear. Even though they only put a couple people on regestwrs at a time, the staff itself is nice and polite and help you if you need that help. The products are good products,maybe a little pricey, but what would you expect from Big Bear. Everythings pricey up there. Overall, good place to shop (honestly, one of the only places).

Horrible experience at Big Bear Vons. I waited my turn to go into Vons due to the ongoing pandemic while my husband waited in the car with our 2 & 4 year old. When I got back to the car my 4 year old needed to use the restroom. I went back with her & explained the security lady the situation. She refused to let us go in for my daughter to use the restroom unless we waited in line again. I understand an adult can hold it, but I thought they would be more understanding with a child. Both my daughter & I were wearing masks & it was an emergency, so I’m extremely disappointed at the lady’s attitude & lack of empathy towards a 4 year old. I don’t like to leave bad reviews, but to top it off next to us there was a car parked with a Von’s employee inside taking her lunch smoking & snorting. It was one of the nicest weeks for.mr, I saw movie.stars and musicians from Holland and the the slow down, like vacation .I went in to get a coffee and the manager came up to me and say to s m e that there was an altercation that happened and it never did. Went on vacation to Big Bear. My mom and I decided to run over to the local Vons on Big Bear Rd. the night we arrived. We went to the register to pay, upon us walking up, the cashier, PAUL, ANOTHER LADY CASHIER AND A BAG BOY, all Caucasian were talking and making fun of the guy who was buffing the floors, laughing like a bunch of hyenas, or rather cackling like teenagers about how the guy more than likely is illegal and doesnt speak English. My mom and I both stopped and were completely shocked to hear Vons Employees speaking such bigotry. I spoke to my mom in Spanish telling her that the cashier must not be right in the head for his poor choice of words and actions. He then looks up at us and glares. Usually a cashier greets their customer, but this PAUL cashier had no customer service skills what so ever. He FAILED to greet us, you could tell he only acknowledged the items he scanned, then just when we thought it couldnt get worse, he asks her if the items I was purchasing, which were separated properly were hers. He scanned my items, he did not greet me or even look at me. He treated me as if I was not there. He did not tell me my total. He instead decided to sing a song to that cashier next to him. He then threw the receipts at me. No proper people skills. I do not know how such a rude person could obtain a job interacting with customers and working for such a well known and respected company. I truly will never return to that VONS again. My opinion has forever changed about VONS. They need to seriously train their employees on harassment and proper conduct in a work environment. We avoided that grocery store the rest of our trip. Its sad to see racism and bigotry such alive and well today. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE.

Left without multiple things we needed for dinner because the checkout person didn’t scan them apparently. The bar is low as far as cashiers go and this place doesn’t even meet that standard.

This is a great place to get groceries while visiting Big Bear. I expected the prices to be a little higher here than down the mountain (everything else is), but the prices are actually comparable.
