Volz has been taking care of my vehicles for 20 years. I trust them. They are honest which is important because I know nothing about cars except how to drive them. Last year when I was out of the area and the low oil warning came on they patiently stayed on the phone to make sure I could remedy the situation without making me feel incompetent. I will always remember that level of service and be grateful for all they do to keep my car running. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I have been a customer of Volz Brothers since it opened in the late 1980s. I have total trust in their work and opinions. When I lived out of state I would call John to ask his opinion as other mechanics had taken advantage of my lack of automotive knowledge. When I drive my car home I know its safe and has received the best care possible at a fair rate. Theyve performed excellent work on my last 6 cars.

I am a HUGE fan of Volz Bros Automotive. New to the area, a neighbor recommended them when I needed a small service. They were amazing - checked out the car (even checking for things I hadnt brought the car in for) and were efficient, knowledgeable, and really nice. Had a recent service done and they solved the problem (after describing it in very clear language that made me feel listened to and not a total engine moron...which I kind of am). My family and I have used Volz for many years now, and always had extraordinary service. Weve brought Subarus and Toyotas both. Weve never once had an issue with the work they performed. Another fantastic experience!I was having trouble starting my car and I needed a smog. I called Volz Brothers on a Monday and by Tuesday afternoon noon the car had a new starter, was smoged and had two new windshield wipers!The price on the bill I paid was surprisingly low and the service was great.Everyone from the owner, John, to the front office staff to the Machanic’s were friendly, professional and respectful.I have trusted and used Volz Brothers for years and will continue to do so going forward.

I typically do my own mechanic work but when it comes to my wifes vehicle we take it to the pros, at volz! One of the premier auto shops locally this place us really, really great! Knowledgeable mechanics and courteous staff work together harmoniously and promptly contact customers with questions and updates. Ive been taking my car and truck to Volz Bros since I moved to the area. Although they are busy and sometimes need to book a week or more out, its worth the wait.On one occasion, my truck went out on the highway in the evening; I had a tow truck tow to Volz Bros and called them first thing in the morning. They had already taken a look when I called them at 8AM the next day, removed a hair from the air sensor that was causing the issue, and didnt charge me at all.Earlier this week, I brought my truck in for routine maintenance and told them I was having issues with my clutch. Im glad I brought it in, as they said it was about to go out. Even though they were already busy, they got the replacement parts and fit me in and got the clutch replaced (along with a few other small fixes) the same day.Outstanding service from reliable and trustworthy people.

I’ve taken my car to Volz Bros a few different times now, for both regular maintenance and repairs (bad wheel bearing, alternator). I initially chose them because I had heard such positive mention of them around town, and that says a lot to me. I am now one of the people that speaks positively about their work, their prices, and their customer service. They are great with ongoing communication to keep me up to date and are very open about what is happening with the vehicle. I can also tell you with certainty that their prices are fair and reasonable, as I was quoted 3x the price they charged for the bad wheel bearing at another shop. My car is 10 years old and has nearly 100k miles on it, so it’s just at that point where some things are going to go wrong. I’ll continue to take it to Volz for anything that pops up.

Volz Bros was quite possibly the best experience I’ve had with an auto repair shop.. I’ve never had a car in and out of the shop so fast— especially for a clutch repair! They were really easy to get a hold of and called me with every update, did a full safely inspection for free with a notice on how soon I would need new brakes and such, and they even washed my car! Ive used Volz bros for a few years now on two older model Toyotas (a tundra and a highlander hybrid). Prior to Volz I only used dealers for major services. When someone asks my opinion I give it honestly and completely. That being said, you may want to find a comfortable chair and get a cup of coffee, this will be a long review.I have been going to Volz Brothers for the past 20 something years. They have serviced most of my vehicles. They have always been fast and friendly, stopping what they were doing to squeeze me in, even if that meant skipping lunch.To be honest, until recently John has really only done minor maintenance for me. A battery here, a windshield wiper there. Once they told me my 1979 Ramcharger really wasn’t worth the money needed to repair it. Volz Brothers didn’t need to tell me that, I would have gladly paid the bill and been happy to have the car back. Their honesty cost them $2,500 but speaks volumes about their integrity. Volz Brothers service, as I said, was quick and easy.Recently I had the opportunity to bring my 2002 Sequoia to them for a second opinion. I had lost the brakes a few days before and had the car towed to the dealer where I bought the car 19 years before and where they had been servicing it every 5,000 miles ever since. The cost to run a diagnostic check on the vehicle took less than 30 minutes and cost $170. The computer error codes said my brakes had failed, something I could have told them without a computer! The repairs they said would cost $3,500 and consisted of replacing the whole brake system! Since the car is almost 20 years old, has 230,000 miles on it and Blue Books at between $2,000-$4,000 I was hesitant to have it repaired. I was preparing to have it towed to a junk yard for disposal when I friend suggested I get a second opinion. I’m glad I did!I decided to bring the car to John at Volz Brothers. As I said, he’s honesty is beyond reproach, and he always makes time for me. He had the car diagnosed, repaired and back to me in a matter of hours. It was done by noon! He found that the master cylinder had failed. He replaced it, bled the system, and did a 25 mile safety check all for $380 out the door!! That’s almost a 10th of the cost the dealer was going to charge!! Again, Volz Brothers integrity cost them money, around $3,000, but what they gained is my undying gratitude and my all of my business from now on! I have 5 vehicles and I will be bringing them to Volz Brothers for everything from windshield wipers, general maintenance, and major repairs. THEY HAVE EARNED MY BUSINESS!

Professional in every way. In a world filled with anxiety, it is a true comfort to deal with people like this. Bought a 2007 Toyota Avalon. They replaced the leaky rack and pinion assembly. Smooth as silk. Brakes on my 2015 CRV. Stops straight and not a squeak. No worry about rotor turning or cheap, noisy pads. Friendly and accommodating. You’ll pay more than at some local fixit shops, but you’ll drive out of Volz Brothers knowing it was it was a job done right by people who know what they’re doing and who stand by their work. Couldnt get in for an oil change quickly so I went to a quick service place where I was told my serpentine belt was cracking. Opted to take the car here for the belt as it didnt seem too pressing so I could work with the appointment being longer out. Had the belt changed and within 10 miles of leaving I started hearing a very loud and troubling noise from the engine compartment. Called and was told to bring it right back. By the time I got back the noise had stopped, luckily I had recorded it. They took my claim seriously and did a test drive which found a rear bearing about to fail! I played my recording of the noise for them and they investigated further to find that my new belt was in fact defective and starting to delaminate! They were able to work in both repairs right away. The defective belt was not their fault, without it the bearing could have left me with my wheel falling off! Most shops would have brushed me off for my concern about a noise they didnt hear, these guys took me seriously and saved me some potential serious trouble!

I have used these guys for so long, I dont recall when I started. The services listed below are what they did the LAST time I was there for an oil-change. Over the years they have done nearly everything that can be done to maintain or fix a vehicle. They saved me HUNDREDS or more dollars on that last visit alone. They have NEVER been MORE than fair with me - ever. They have never lied to me, did things which didnt need to be done, and have NEVER gone over an estimate even though they have my permission to do so. They SEE what they are looking at, so they spot problems LONG before they become dangerous, or get worse - and thus, more expensive. They have been in the community since the early 1980s - and so have more than withstood the test of time - back then mechanics came and went belly up in a year or two because they could not be trusted to do good work, stand behind their work, do only work necessary, or go WAY over estimates. After 40 or so years, you can be certain that if they were no good, theyd have been history like so many others. And if others can do a better job than they can - they refer me out to other locals who have also been here since dirt was white. THAT shows Customer SERVICE - telling a customer that another shop could do a better job than they could. That is also called being honest. AND they are all VERY bright - I like my mechanics as bright as my physicians - and these guys are. And, nope, not related to them except though YEARS of Exceptional Service.

John was determined to make sure he had exhausted all options before actually needing to go that route. I received a warm friendly greeting upon my arrival and I felt they gave good attention to my explanation of the problem. They told me their completion time could be about two weeks as they were booked up. I asked if they could better that time and was told they would try and would have an estimator call with a price and completion date. 15 minutes later I had a call from the estimator with a price of $800 to replace the alternator and it would possibly be completed within two days; because I needed the car, I told him to go ahead. I researched the internet for the cost of an alternator for my make and year of car and found several ranging from $150 to $650. The lesser costs were for after market alternators and the most expensive, an original equipment model. This left a question in my mind, what was the price of the alternator he had quoted me?The next day, I was told the car was done and ready to be picked up. Upon reviewing the statement, I found they had installed an OEM alternator costing $650 (gold plated and diamond studded).... My question to them was, why wasnt I given an opportunity to choose an after market alternator? Answer, they wouldnt warrant an after market alternator. This decision should be left to the customer. They did a fine job on the car including vacuuming the interior.

Best auto shop in the entire area! If you really want a mechanic that you can totally trust to not rip you off with unneeded repairs like most of the other shops up here, this is the place. I found Volz after a check engine light came on in my Lexus. First I took it to Gold Country Auto in Penn Valley. They gave me an estimate as long as my arm for lots of unneeded repairs($ in the thousands). My car is 20 years old so a $2000 repair is half what the car itself is worth. I then took it to Plaza Tire in Penn Valley and they suggested completely different repairs and said that the problems that Gold Country supposedly found did NOT exist at all. But they still said that they found a little shorter list with different parts that needed replacement. Since I had conflicting estimates, I went to Volz Brothers in Grass Valley since other people had told me they were extremely honest. They looked for ALL the problems that the first two shops said needed to be repaired and Volz found absolutely NONE of those problems on my car! Volz replaced two VVT sensors, changed the oil and my car was as good as new again. All for $400 instead of $1750-$2500. This stuff is really going on at auto repair shops everywhere and finding an HONEST repair shop is really hard to do. I know that the shops need money right now, but so do I! If you want a mechanic that knows how to fix your problem without trying to upsell you on things you dont need, then John at Volz Brothers is the ONLY place in town! After nine years of living up here this is the first shop that I completely trust! Thank you John Volz! You are a blessing!

I have been a customer of Voltz Bros for over 30 years, but I will no longer continue to patronize them. My 2011 Honda Fit was not starting so I brought it to Voltz Bros. I was told that I needed a new battery, starter and alternator which would cost 2200 dollars. Because of the age of my car and the number of miles, I was encouraged by John Voltz Jr to trade it in for a new car. I did not seek a second opinion because I trusted John. After I bought a new car, I sold my Honda to a friend’s son who only had to replace the battery not the starter or alternator. I would have kept my Fit if I had known that it only needed a battery. When I told John about it, he was not receptive to what I said. Unfortunately, I have lost my trust in Voltz Bros and would not recommend them as mechanics.
