Mixed feelings with the place. Grateful they took my cat in late at night when everyone else was filled. My cat Rum (male) had a urine tract blockage . Brought him in and first person to talk to us was a lady with short hair that acted like a guy. She sat across me and my gf legs spread and pretty much began to negotiate a price for my cats treatment. I work in sales and would never treat people like this especially when your pets life’s on the line. They definitely use that tactic against you. We agreed on the “lower” end of 3500 to take him and attempt to flush his blockage out. I felt like my treatment was based on how much I paid. Which is messed up. Everyone else ok the receptionist was the nicest and the reason I went in so quickly thankfully. O and mid negotiations the short haired lady stopped and asked my girlfriend you look familiar have I seen you before. Like hitting on her 🤦‍♂️. Annoying but I’m at there mercy at this point. Long story short he needed a PU surgery and here it would be an additional 7k. Thankfully someone there was kind enough to recommend me Topanga Veterinary Clinic and they did the surgery for 3500. I hope you guys work on your customer service skills and not just the $$$ part of it. I would recommend people to come here only and emergency situations and to guickly go else where. Unless funds are unlimited then by all means . Thankfully Rum is still here to live another day

Amazing Service and Amazing work that they do!! I took my dog for a walk and he ended up getting small rock pebbles in his left eye and when I brought him here, they not only fixed the issue and got the rocks out of his eye but gave me very extensive instructions on how to take care of him. 3 days later he fully recovered and is back to normal! THANK YOU!

My dog has been going to VSEC for his heart problems for a few years now, and theyve been spectacular. Justin might be the best vet tech on the planet! Dr. Russell sat with me and drew diagrams to ensure I understood what was happening with my dogs heart and answered all my questions even though it was a really busy day in the office. I really appreciate all the staff here and the care my pet and Ive received!

They have no problem taking thousands of dollars from you until you actually need their help. The very first thing they do is run out with their clipboard and get your credit card. They won’t give you the exact estimate up front. The service was fine on the day of my dog’s surgery. However, when it came to her follow up appointments for her staple removal, they were no help. My dog is very anxious at pet visits and they were previously aware of this. It wasn’t an issue when they received $5,000 on the day of the surgery. But when it came to a free staple removal, they refused my dog. Even though I called ahead of time and they said they will take her in. Very unprofessional and a money hungry company.

If I could give this place more stars I would. My elderly dog was shutting down. We had an appointment for an at home euthanasia scheduled for her the next morning, but she started going down hill throughout the night and we knew it was time, that she was ready and we could no longer wait. The veterinarian who performed the procedure showed me such compassion with my dog in her final moments, and carried her away with so much love and care when she was gone. I am feeling immeasurable pain, but knew I made the right call. Thank you, so very much for putting my mind at ease, and taking care both me and my girl during her final moments.

My Grandparents and I recently had to make the very difficult decision to assist their elderly dog BO in crossing over the rainbow bridge. The entire vet team was so kind and compassionate and provided the most amazing care for our beloved BO. Dr. Kate Maynard even allowed us to take him home for one more night to show him as much love as we could and say our goodbyes. She made him comfortable with medication and fluids in the ER and even sent us home with pain meds for him to make his last night at home as pain free as possible. He was definitely ready to be free by the next morning and we got to lovingly hold him as we said our final goodbye and Dr. Maynard was so gentle with him and so compassionate. Also, the front desk staff and all the vet techs were excellent. They all provided Bo with dignity and amazing care. We thank you all so much! The doctor even sent my grandparents a condolence card and I almost cried reading it. Thank you to Dr. Maynard and the entire team at VSEC. You made an awful day much more peaceful for our family. My dog was in a fight with a raccoon recently and we took her to VSEC for emergency treatment. They did a wonderful job with her care and follow up. Only reason for 4 star, rather than 5, was the wait. I guess because its an ER, everybody gets stuck in the queue for awhile.

We have been here twice and both times our dog was managed by Dr. Norris, who is the director and surgeon. She’s wonderful and takes her job so seriously. She provided us with updates about our dog routinely while he was under her care. Everyone at VSEC was incredibly kind throughout our entire experience with them. I’m only giving 4 stars because the price was astounding although we definitely got what we paid for in quality.

I wish I could give 10 stars because they deserve it! Its very difficult these days to find doctors and their staff who are compassionate, understanding and display genuine care for our furry companions. Dr. Russell and Justin (cardiology) are absolutely AMAZING. Every visit, I have the same wonderful experience - open communication, ensuring I am informed, all my questions answered and a thorough understanding of the treatment plan going forward. Special shoutout to Justin who is like family and gives exceptional care every single time!

Brought my dog in for an injured tail and they were really backed up and busy. Within minutes of sitting in the waiting room a vet came out to talk to another patient and glanced at my dog and immediately identified the problem was Swimmers Tail. She was able to do the exam quick in the waiting room and issued us anti inflammatory meds and we were out of there quickly. So grateful for her she was amazing. Thanks again!

Stay away. They just want your money. They are supposedly 24 hours. I had to leave with my very sick dog last night. I was told personally by the veterinarian that if I needed to come back in the morning it would be like we were picking up where we left off.Richard at the front desk the next day had zero empathy, because he wasn’t there yesterday so it’s easier for someone to not care what someone is saying over the phone. Easier to spit out “policy” you could hear it in his voice. Richard insisted that Dr Maynard makes the call to charge for “revisits” and that I would in fact be charged for coming back even though I only had to leave because of them.Go somewhere else, it’s stressful enough with a sick pet. These guys are money robbers.

My poor baby passed away, but Kelsey, Kathy, and Haley made it easier. I’ve never received so much love from a vets office. They went above and beyond, and they gave my baby so much love before he passed. I will forever be grateful for them. They all deserve huge raises because i can just tell they go above and beyond for all their patients. ❤️ thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. You all don’t know how much it meant to me to have the support from you guys.

Absolutely ridiculous! Scammers and not good staff at all!!!! Our dog was in labor and had delivered 4 pups. A few hours had gone by and no other deliveries. So, I called and explained we were pretty sure a puppy was stuck in the canal and there were more in there. Could they do a c-section if needed they said yes, come on in. When we got there they took our dog in right away and did not tell us anything- just fill out paperwork and pay $1800!!!!! Um, ok. So that is done and we waited. Our dog was in a lot of distress, away from her 4 pups and stressed and did nip one of the nurses.... They came out after 2 hours and asked so you want us to save the mother or babies?!?! We said mother... And we waited again... Assuming they were saving our dog and any pups they could. My husband and I waited for 4 hours before being told that they actually did not have surgeon on the premises and that we would have to drive her to Woodland Hills and pay 12,000 dollars. If we did not have the money she would basically just wait through the night and not make it! ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! So what did you do besides xrays and unnecessary tests... that cost $1800 and had her for 4 HOURS!!! Not to mention putting in a catheter to prep her for surgery yet there was no surgeon!!! Then the next day we got a knock on our door from the VCAS because of the nip! Just insane. THESE PEOPLE WERE RUDE AND NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTED... ONLY WANT MONEY AND DO NOT CARE ONE BIT ABOUT ANIMALS OR THE WELFARE OF OTHERS!!!!!! Thankfully our dog is ok because we took her into Warner Center the next day and they were so helpful and kind! Not to mention affordable!

It takes an incredibly special type of person to treat a stranger with so much empathy during the hardest time of their lives. Everyone from the receptionist who took my call, to the front desk when I arrived, to the vet techs to the veterinarian were so incredibly gentle and caring toward my husband and I and our chihuahua, Weezy. I know he was not the kindest back. He always was a little grumpy in his old age.It’s going to take me so much time to heal from the loss of my baby, Weezy. But I want to thank you for allowing us as much time as we needed with him and for euthanizing him gently and humanely and including me and reassuring me every step of the way. Everyone had just the right words to say. I’m absolutely heart broken but I will never forget how I was treated by your staff on 5/19. Compassion is everything

Dr. Tangeman is an absolute angel! She saved my little doxies life and made me feel so at ease with trusting her to care for my baby. The staff is very friendly and they treat my dog like its their own. Waiting room is very nice with free coffee, water bottles and candy for snacking.

The way this emergency center treats pet parents in distress is appalling. Right from the begining you start throwing high numbers around without even knowing exactly what the issue is and when we set a budget if its not up to your standards you have the audacity to tell a child well your killing your dog if you dont approve all these treatments, knowing it would put pressure on the parents because we would do anything not to see our kids hurt even if it puts us in debt $7,000 or $10,000. My advice to anyone, if you care about your pet go somewhere anywhere else. For the emergency clinic being aaha certified this is a joke; am surprised more people have not filed complaints through aaha. And dont bother replying, take that time to show your staff how to sympathize with people more.

Went there when my 13-year-old dog started throwing up. I got nervous at like 1 am and took her in. There was no wait, they took her back and checked her out a few hours later. The bill was pricey. But I expected it because they are an emergency vet.

I had an appointment for my dog to have a cardiac workup. The technician came out shortly after I arrived and welcomed me and my dog. He described the procedure in detail. After the procedure, the doctor came out to discuss the results and any necessary follow-up. They were both very nice and very professional and answered all of my questions. I felt that my dog was in the hands of people who cared, and I was very happy with my visit.

Our cat was here 3 days on a banana bag and catheter charging $1k a day. Our cat needed EMERGENCY SURGERY on his urethra for a urinary blockage and they said it would cost $10 total for his stay. We took him to Chatsworth emergency clinic instead and they performed the same surgery for $3500. Our cat is thriving now what he needed was the emergency surgery to unblock his urethra. The emergency surgery in chatsworth costed less than having him at this clinic for the 3 days.

Our 14 yr old Yorkie was not responding at home. We drove her on a Saturday night to VSEC. The employees at the front desk were extremely empathetic and helpful. They truly cared about the well being of our Pixie. They explained all costs & care thoroughly. I called several emergency vets on New Year’s Day and none were taking in patients. I called this emergency center and they told me to bring my dog in with no hesitation! They helped my fur baby get better and was not as pricey as I expected. I definitely recommend this vet with caring workers!!!

The internal medicine department, specifically Dr. Tangeman has been amazing in helping my dogs intestinal issues. She helped us get a diagnosis and has been working with us to tweak her meds to keep her healthy (even though weve moved away from the area she still takes my calls and knows my dogs situation well). If your dog has gastrointestinal problems call Dr. T, you wont regret it.

Such an unnecessary loss losing my grand puppy. I’ve been unbelievably at a loss at what to say. Always knowing that a lot of veterinarians are expensive and usually charge way too much for certain things that aren’t necessary. But to learn that the denial of signing a contract that has nothing to do with his care, before even evaluating and stabilizing him, The vet says” you’re not going to sign the contract? we don’t do free work around here“ To do this to Any animal is incredibly negligent and cold. It’s almost like signing a blank check. Knowing that most people that need to bring their baby to emergency are going to be under duress andmost likely just going to sign. They are taking advantage of people in these situations. He was such a good boy so sweet & Loving He did not deserve this kind of neglect. And they compared this to the emergency room for humans however, they would treat and stabilize a human and worry about payment after the fact. Which is exactly what they should’ve done. He would still be here if they had. And they still would have gotten paid because we would’ve helped make sure of that! SO VERY ANGRY!

There are very few options for 24 hour emergency veterinary care in the area, and I am so grateful to have VSEC as an option. We recently had to rush my little Chihuahua here in the middle of the night due to her CHF. Unfortunately we had to put her down, it was one of the hardest moments in my life, but Dr. Jolley was so amazing. He made us feel so comfortable and confident that we were making the right decision for our little girl. He was so caring, empathetic and compassionate. I cant say enough great things about him and their staff. You dont always get the outcome you want when your pet needs emergency care, we certainly didnt, but without VSEC and Dr. Jolley our girls final moments could have been much more traumatic. I highly recommend bringing your pet here for any emergency healthcare situation. And to Dr. Jolley and the VSEC staff, thank you. You have no idea how much you helped us during those last moments of our little girls life.. (this was her last picture.)

Our kitty was having some trouble last night, and out of worry we brought him to the clinic around 9PM/9:30PM. While it was busy and understaffed, Brittany came out and did a quick triage with him and was realistic with our time and expectations. She had the doctor look him over quickly and determine he was safe to go home without any exertion on our part, knowing that due to the low staffing we would have around a 4hr wait (which is understandable, and we would have done had the situation been severe) and assured our concerns with a friendly and professional demeanor. Very appreciated, and will be keeping them in mind in the future with any emergencies!

Early morning, I needed emergency care for a possible seizure of my moms dog and we were seen very quickly. The ER techs met us right away and took the dog into their treatment area for a quick diagnosis of his situation. After about 30 minutes the ER veterinarian came out to talk to us and give us a diagnosis of opinion. Since the dog has had an enucleation of both eyes, they could not determine if he has had a seizure or not. Chances were, hes old and has developed Vestibular disease. He is home now and has recovered from an upsetting episode on a weekend morning.This ER vet hospital did everything within their ability to make sure our needs were met. Yes, the bill was high, but when our furry friends need us at their worst, we answer the call.If you are expecting ANY vet to have compassion for your pet you will get it, When you expect them to do it for below their operating costs, ask how much it is to put your animal to sleep, because you are not worthy of being a pet owner.Pets can be expensive, many do not have pet health insurance, be prepared to pay an emergency price for the emergency you are having. The outcome will be in your favor, but expect the worse and PRAY. God is with you, us, and your pet. Be grateful for a great ER vet hospital like this to be available when you need them.Thank you for the great service and not overcharging for unnecessary bill items.

The review I wanted to write exceeds Googles character limit, so this an abridged version.Ive been to VSEC twice, & each time was a completely different experience. I would rate my first visit as 10 stars & the second visit as a 0. I think it is hit or miss based on who is working.Now I will describe my first visit w/VSEC. I brought my cat in because she had developed a saddle thrombus. My 10 year old kitty was dying completely unexpectedly & my heart was broken. Dr. Ferrel & Richard were absolutely amazing. They were compassionate & very supportive through the process of our acceptance that our baby girls body had given up on her & she needed to be allowed to peacefully move on. Dr. Ferrel answered all of my many questions patiently & ensured I felt at peace w/our decision. I could not have asked for a better team to lead us through this heart breaking time & I sent them a thank you note expressing as much.Given that my experience was so positive during my first visit, I decided to take one of my surviving cats to VSEC when he became sick because I trusted them to take care of him & regular vets were fully booked. My cat had vomited violently and lost his appetite. While these signs had improved over two days, he had lost his voice. Dr. Banuelos checked my kittys vitals, said they were normal, and that she didnt recommend further testing because the vomiting and appetite had improved. I was concerned because my chief complaint was that my kitty couldnt meow and checking vitals would not address that problem. I asked Dr. Banuelos to check his larynx, and she said that he was at an ER and they cant check his larynx because thats a specialty. The way she said it felt very condescending. She insisted that he was improving & kept focusing on the vomiting & appetite & seemed to brush off the laryngitis, even though the laryngitis was my main concern.I was torn on what to do because Dr. Banuelos said she didnt think the labs were necessary & that she couldnt evaluate a larynx (so why do the labs)? At the same time I was there because I had lost my cat due to an undetected disease and wanted to ensure we werent missing anything in my surviving fur baby. I was also concerned because it did not seem like Dr. Banuelos was listening to my chief complaint.When the technician came in to review the labs the doc didnt recommend, I felt it was necessary to communicate that I was worried my chief complaint wasnt getting addressed. I was hoping to redirect their attention to my chief complaint. She immediately became defensive & stated that I had no trust w/ the doctor & kept saying things like unfortunately I cant change the way you feel. I started crying because I was frustrated that I was not getting validated or reassurance that my chief complaint was being taken seriously or could even be assessed.Given that I was feeling torn & was not feeling heard, I called my husband to help me figure out what to do.After a while the technician returned to my room and interrupted me while I was on the phone to tell me Unfortunately due to the lack of trust the doctor is not comfortable seeing you. I was getting tossed out & treated like a difficult patient because I was confused on what to do & getting no reassurance that my concern was valid or could get evaluated. When I tried to express my point of view, the technician kept talking over me, unfoundedly accusing me of not trusting them, & flat out refused to listen to me when I asked her if she would. At this point I got angry by the complete lack of listening to me throughout my time there & getting punted out because they were not listening to me. I definitely lost my cool.I really wish that Dr. Banuelos & her tech had listened to my chief complaint instead of putting me in the position of feeling confused, concerned, and invalidated.It seems like this place is a complete hit or miss based on who is working.PS: A few days later my kitty saw his regular vet, and even the vet tech could immediately tell he was massively congested & needed antibiotics.

Amazing the surgeon was amazing couldnt be more happier had a problem when I brought him home so I took him back and they kept them for 3 days to get him back to eating and drinking and hes home resting peacefully now kudos to all the staff and kudos for all the times I called and bugged them and theyre very nice couldnt say anything nicer

I have never been to an emergency vet that treated me as a worried pet owner that didnt try to bleed my bank account dry.I brought my husky in, I checked in, explained our situation, and as I was filling out my paperwork the vet came over to me and said I want to try and save you some money. Can I do a quick exam? He did a quick check and explained that the lump I found was normal and then proceeded to tell me what symptoms would be exhibited if it was a serious situation. He then took my paperwork and told me to have a nice evening. They didnt even charge me for a tech visit.

Went to this emergency vet because my cat injured his back legs. Have called 10 times over the past 7 days to get information on our radiology and urine analysis and still haven’t received a call or email back when they told us we would get results same day. Brought our cat to access in woodland hills and have received so much help from them. Access gave us free X-rays to replace the ones that this office did because they were so awful.. Also we left this place and our cat now has a feline flu that he could have only received from lack of sanitation and separation of illnesses here. And once home noticed his front paw swollen and bruised which was not like that before our visit. Absolute negligence. Please do not bring your pet here. Go to Access in Woodland Hills and they can provide the level of care your baby deserves.

We had an emergency with our dog and called vets in the area for hours while our elderly dog had back to back violent seizures. It was one of the most emotional, helpless days of our lives. The care, empathy and professional service provided by VSEC was a God send. We made the tough decision to say goodbye to our faithful companion. We could not ask for a better staff of professionals than at this facility. . . . and they did not price gouge us in this vulnerable time.

We became frequently visitors with our 14 years old chihuahua, Lucy, at VSEC after she was in critical care for 3 days. Dr. Russel demonstrates an outstanding service and compassionate care to our dog. Lucy was diagnosed with severe heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, and just currently, with enlarged liver and a collapsed lung. Lets put in way: nobody will treat your dog if you cannot pay for the treatments. We are lucky that that isnt a issue for us, although we have to make some choices with our budget in order to be able to keep the treatments for Lucy going. The facility has the most advance diagnostic equipments, which not every vet can afford. In other words, being able to get the right diagnosis and treatments comes with a steep price. The doctors and vet techs here work in extreme conditions, including high high stress which comes with lot of emotions when a pet cant be saved. Veterinarians as a rule are perfectionist, and they hate to lose. Every time a pet is lost, it seems as if its not just the owners, but also the staff that experiences a loss. If your pet lost at the vet please don’t blame anyone, especially the team who tired hard to keep your pet alive. Unfortunately, sometime we cannot help our beloved. I hope my thoughts help those who are writing negative comments when the vet is unable to save your pet. It is always a tragedy and no one is happy about it. But there are thousands of pet whose lifes where saved, which why we are coming in the first place to VSEC. I want to thank you all team member for their enthusiastic work at VSEC Thousand Oaks.And a very special thank you to Dr. Russell to the most amazing Aussie who I ever met.

Dr. Will Jolley was the most compassionate, empathetic veterinarian Ive met. During the most excruciating moment of our familys life, he provide comfort, kindness, and honesty. Dr. Jolley was so thorough in his explanation about what was happening to our dog and the crisis he was in. Dr. Jolley was clear, articulate, straightforward, and did not leave any stone unturned. We had zero question marks. Yet, he was gentle, kind, patient, and very reassuring. I couldnt have asked for a better experience, especially during such a painful encounter. the Rivezzo family will forever be indebted to Dr. Jolley for his incredible love & wisdom.

They don’t put you in a room which feels a little impersonal and everyone can hear your business. The Dr did not introduce herself so I had no clue if she was a tech or a vet. She was rude and not compassionate. It was also very loud in there and hard to hear people talk. The vet in a round about way also said that my family and I were neglecting our pet even after we told her we were trying to do something different and it needed time to get into my dogs system. If I had a choice of another emergency vet, I would have gone there but everything is full. If I could give zero stars I would, but sadly I cannot. There is a reason there are more 1 stars and not 5. Its time this business reassess what is going on there.

There have only been two sad days when Ive had to come here, rather than my primary vet, with my cats. First a year and a half ago when Casey had a massive stroke at 20 years old in the middle of the night, and then last week in the early morning when Rajah went into end-stage kidney failure with a sudden massive bloody urinary blockage at the age of 21 after 4 years of daily treatment. They both had zero chance at having much of a pleasant life at these points. Instead of giving us the runaround with excessive expensive tests and promises of heroic treatments, which would have given us maybe an extra very difficult month with each cat, the vets at VSEC confirmed the hard truth that the end was near, and helped us send them over the rainbow bridge with the comfort and dignity they deserved after so many years of joy. This last time, there were plenty of other patrons getting their dogs and cats treated for various less deadly matters, and those conversations did in fact discuss tests and treatments... So these vets do show a good, kind degree of discernment that takes the owners happiness and the pets dignity into account on a case-by-case basis. Theyre not nearby for me, so I personally wouldnt have brought my cats here otherwise, but they are the closest 24 hour emergency vet hospital to us. Not sure what happened to this clinic, but it seems like with the change in ownership the employees have become rather rude. Weve taken multiple pets to this clinic to be seen for surgeries and I attempted to call this afternoon to schedule another visit. I was rudely cutoff by the receptionist that answered before I could even finish my statements or questions. I was willing to look past this if one of our beloved surgeons was still on staff, but was informed she was no longer there. Ill be going to VMSG for my pet care needs instead. I know that the clinic has changed leadership in recent years, but good grief, I wasnt expecting customer service to go downhill so quickly.

We have needed the help of the specialists at VSEC many times over the years. Front office staff is consistently helpful. Dr. Russell, the cardiologist, sees our cat once a year, to follow a chronic, slowly progressing condition. He clearly explains the test results, and answers our questions.We love the vet techs! We have used VSEC in the past for emergencies and 1 surgery. Their emergency vets are great. However, we brought in our 12 year old chihuahua who had fallen and was lame. She was diagnosed with a dislocated hip but because of her heart condition they sent us home with pain meds and said a specialist would call at 7:30 the next day with treatment options. No call at 7:30, 9:30, etc. I finally called at noon and received a call back at 4. The woman I spoke to was not very helpful. She said my little girl needed major surgery (ie cutting off the top of her leg to refit it into the hip). and with her heart condition she would need to see a cardiologist. She also said they were very expensive and since I had waited too long to bring my girl to the ER and the only option was the surgery that I should co-ordinate her care with our primary vet. Thank god our primary vet gave us a referral who then sent us to Access Specialty hospital in Culver City. They were able to put her leg back in place without surgery and after seeing a cardiologist put her on additional heart meds. So happy we went to Access. They saved us/her from having unnecessary surgery. I will probably continue to use VSEC for emergencies because they are close and open 24hrs but have lost total confidence in their diagnostic skills and treatment plans.

We took our puppy that recently got spayed (somewhere else) and we noticed she had a possible infection. the staff there was extremely friendly and helpful. it turned out her incision was a bit infected and they did such an excellent job in taking care of it. we left feeling at ease and with peace knowing she was going to be okay. all thanks to doctor Andrietti and the team.

Also the staff did not give us all the options available, we had to come up with them ourselves. We called Ventura Emergency and Woodland Hills they too did not have a surgeon. Beware……I took my male cat in for a potential urinary tract infection. Was there 5+ hours. It took them more than an hour to take my cat back to an exam room. It took another 3 hours until a doctor called me from behind closed doors, not face to face. He had another person explain all the tests/procedures that the doctor recommended for my cat needed to the tune of 2,643.37. You can imagine my surprise! I only agreed to let them them test for UTI which costs 583.70. When I went to pay my bill, they presented a bill for 700.00+ so they tacked on additional charges not approved by me first. I was able to remove the extra costs. I was told that I would get the results the next morning. Now 2 days later, I still do not have the results that should only take 1-2 hours. After multiple phone calls, I was told that they “send away” for that test. What creditable vet hospital doesn’t have the ability to run their own urinalysis? Please, if you love your animal, DON’T TAKE THEM HERE. VSAC, please don’t respond with some condescending remarks like those I have read, they are so insincere.UPDATE: this is now day 10 and I have not been contacted by VSEC regarding test results. I contacted my credit card company and they reversed the charges. Thought this may be helpful information for those who are unhappy with their services.

We are absolutely crushed. Our family just lost our puppy. The puppy no one wanted that we rescued that had the gimpy leg, he took a little fall and must’ve landed wrong and fractured his neck. We rushed him over to vsec, I called ahead to make sure I was taking him to the right place. When I pulled up there was a whole team ready for him, they got him comfortable and started trying to see what they could do to help him. The whole team was incredible to me and my children. They walked us through everything. If they only cared about money they would’ve pushed us to continue working on him and I would’ve paid every dollar they asked for thinking it might give him a chance. But the doctor very carefully guided us to see that his injury would mean a very long process of medical procedures and if he did survive he’d most likely have brain damage. They stabilized him and got him very comfortable to where we got to sit with him and say our goodbyes and spend as much time with him as we needed. It was unbelievably shocking but thanks to this facility and this incredible STAFF I truly feel that they made this experience a little less traumatic for all of us. The way the dr and everyone walked us through step by step and helped us make decisions without making them for us.. I’m truly touched by the level of care we all received and will always be grateful.

I walked in to let them know my dog was getting dropped off since I do t live near by (40 minutes away but work down the street) I filled out paper work and they came out to ask what time was my dog going to be there because they were not taking dogs past 6pm. Thank god these people don’t work with humans. We brought our 13 year old dog here who had passed surrounded by her family to have her cremated. We made sure they knew we wanted her to be cremated and to have her back home with our family and even started to arrange plans to spread some of her ashes at one of her favorite beaches. Today we got an EMAIL saying her microchip had been scanned and she had been “found”. Only to find out they labeled her wrong and she had been cremated in a communal cremation… and her ashes then dumped. We took our 10 year old cat here after a visit with her regular vet that was showing concerning blood work and he suggested euthanasia. We wanted a second opinion to ensure what was wrong with her wasn’t treatable (and if it was treatable, she would still have a good quality of life afterwords) The vets at VSEC ran a bunch of tests and looked over our cat and gave us false promises and hope that what she had was very treatable and promised us she would be okay and would not die. We expressed that we did not want to put her through any unnecessary pain or procedures if she was suffering, and again, we were told that it’s too soon to euthanize her and she could be saved. Well, $6k+ later, our beloved cat passed away, alone, at the hospital. This place only cares about money and we believe they knew our cat was a lost cause and just wanted to get as much money from us as possible and didn’t honor our wishes of allowing her to die peacefully at home. VSEC robbed our sweet cat of the dignity of dying surrounded by her family and in her home. We will never bring another pet here ever again and will tell everyone we know to never bring their pets here. The vets give owners false promises that their pets will be okay and take as much money from them as they can. Please absolutely avoid this place if you can!

I love the staff here, but it is incredibly hard to get my dog seen - even in the emergency area - unless shes on deaths doorstep. I understand theres a vet shortage, so the difficulty is not entirely their fault but it is still frustrating. My dog and I were turned away from emergency twice in a span of two weeks. She was very ill (hadnt eaten in 3 weeks by the time of the second visit & had already been seen twice by my regular vet who told me to go to vsec) but apparently the vet we needed to see was out sick. Again, not exactly their fault, and I will say the front office staff handled it well and helped me find somewhere else to go (tho it was an hour drive which meant we couldnt go that day), but it just never used to be this way. The next day I took my dog to a different emergency vet and they got her on IV fluids and meds to help ease her discomfort and get her appetite back. She was hospitalized for three days and has a very serious chronic illness. If VSEC had seen her the first time we went, she wouldnt have had to suffer for so long.

This place is amazing! I love the staff as they all are very sweet and genuinely seem to care. They deserve more than 5 stars for taking such amazing care of my sweet Dexter who we brought in for a urinary block. He had to come in twice which was unfortunate but they went the extra mile to insure that we wouldn’t be having another issue like this. They were realistic about his prognosis and made sure to explain everything to me as far as the procedures they performed and the aftercare for when he comes home. I highly recommend this place, and yes it can be expensive to save your pets life but for me it’s 100% worth it. And it’s part of being a pet owner unfortunately. My son took both our dogs in after eating a dangerous amount of cacao, and they were showing signs of toxicity and elevated heart rates. Upon arrival they took the dogs in back leaving my son waiting for an hour before talking with him about treatment, and also leaving my dogs untreated. He was then told he would have to sign a contract to pay $3000 upfront before they would work on them. I called the office as well and asked if they would be willing to start an IV and charcoal and assess them after six hours before we decide about leaving them for the 48 hours they recommended, as we could not afford that. They refused care and refused to work with us as an outpatient option unless we agreed to their plan. My son called the poison hotline and spoke with the toxicologist regarding the case the vet and they too were very upset to hear nothing had been done for them after leaving them for hours untreated. My son was there for 5 hours of nothing more than Subterraneous fluids. When the dogs arrived home they were agitated and EXTREMELY thirsty leading us to believe they didn’t even give them water to drink. This was a life threatening situation for them and the care was irresponsible to say the least. My dogs were fortunate that they threw up a ton before we went there had they not the outcome could have been devastating. We were still left with a $600 bill for basically two IV’s. We are very disappointed.

Horrific experience with this vet hospital. After several calls to ensure they could address our cats serious medical situation, we made time for an emergency visit, which is the way they suggested having him seen (versus a scheduled appointment). The person who greeted us kept explaining the difference between what they are able to do versus what our cat needed. We knew this intimately and didnt need the explanation (repeatedly). Instead, we wanted her/them to take responsibility for having told both us and our primary vet (who I asked to call to verify that they could in fact handle his care) that they could address his condition when in fact they couldnt. They sent us on our way. The attitude was dismissive and disingenuous. We compare this to the care we received at our next stop and there is none. The next hospital was incredibly professional. Avoid these guys if you can. Or, better yet, VSEC vets/management, train your employees to seek out answers from your vets on staff before answering questions of your customers or take the call yourselves. There are animals lives at stake.

I love this place! The staff is extremely caring and thorough, they listen and act like they care and you can tell they like their job! You get A List treatment here NO matter what time of day or NIGHT. I have always been in during the later hours and have received amazing care and consideration even at the wee hours of the night. I have brought my dog into VSEC twice for emergency situations. Both times my dog and I were treated kindly and respectfully. They handled my dogs needs very professionally and sent me home with clear instructions that led to a successful healing process. One of the times I went in was a Sunday, when all regular vets are closed. It was very busy; the waiting room was packed. They informed me as soon as I came in that there would be a long wait. I saw a lot of people and pets come through that day with emergencies of varying degrees of urgency. The staff were all courteous and efficient despite the fact that they were overloaded and when I left around 5pm had still not eaten their lunches. I know some reviewers have complained about wait times, but it seems like that would be a natural issue at any emergency care center. Im not about to complain that they prioritized patients that checked in after me because their needs were more severe. Understand that the staff are constantly weighing the urgency of the different cases. Overall I have been very impressed by the dedication and care of the VSEC staff.

Only place in the local area with 24 hour care for our furry friends. My dog was attacked by another dog and needed stitches. They took her right away to give her a sedative and relieve the pain. They also refuse to even very generally quote services unless you submit to a full exam. I would struggle to find a reason to consider them ever again. After a long period of time The tech came in with euthanasia drugs in hand. I asked where is the vet?I was told that the vet on duty has had too rough a night to put my pet to sleep and she was going to do it.In my life I have never had such an awful experience.The intake receptionist was rude. The real shocker here was the person at the reception, I walked in last night (Oct. 18, 2017) around 11 pm, because my aging dog had been pacing and panting for over 3 hrs. This situation obviously had me very distraught, you would figure that at a vet emergency clinic at least 90% of the pet owners will be feeling the same way and that there would be someone compassionate and patient to receive you. Well that was NOT the case at this place, she was very rude and disrespectful, she gave some paperwork to fill out and took it back to enter the info into the computer, apparently she couldnt understand my handwriting and was having trouble understanding my name, so I tried to spell it for her a few times and she still couldnt understand and was expressing her frustration by getting agitated at me and making derogatory gestures with her hands. When she finally understood, I respectfully asked her to show me what part of my handwriting she wasnt understanding ( I was genuinely curious) and she dismissed and ignored me right after she rolled her eyes at me. At that point I got on my phone to find another place to go to and suddenly I got called inside and I decided to put my dogs well-being first and let it go, luckily the staff inside was more courteous and had better bedside manner. However, the compassion and the good customer service SHOULD start since the reception, come on, Im spending a good amount of money to be mistreated, really? That is NOT how you run a business. Needless to say that the next time I will go elsewhere, when you are already stressed and distraught about your pets health the last thing you want or need is this kind of mistreatment.

Thank you VSEC once again!! You are one of a kind and we are thankful from the bottom of our hearts.Last Sunday, one of my dogs overdosed on medication from my other dog. I got home and discovered Sasha had eaten about 30 heart medication pills. We called VSEC immediately and they guided us on what to do before bringing our Sasha over. We contacted poison control, got the information we needed and took Sasha over to be seen.Sunday afternoon at VSEC, packed with cars, it looked extremely busy. We waited a little bit and one of the amazing Vet Techs came over and took our little one to be treated. We live in ojai and Our two poor dogs had diarrhea and vomiting at one in the morning. They are 3 months old and we were afraid they might have parvovirus. We were on hold for 30 minutes at both clinics in Ventura only to hear that the clinics were at full capacity or they didn’t have staff available to treat our pups. Both were listed as 24 hour care facilities and this is the second time that we were told that they were at capacity. Luckily we called here in Thousand Oaks and staff picked up immediately and told us our dogs could get in as soon as we drove 45 minutes to see them. Mandy was extremely helpful in getting our dogs tested and provided great service! I have a dear senior citizen friend who has a beloved maltese whomshe has loved and taken excellent care of for 16 years. Diagnosed over a year ago with congestive heart failure and has in the past several months experienced major set backs and on various medications.She has mainly been seen at another veterinary hospital in Simi Valley and has repeatedly been told the dog does not need to be euthanized though my friend has seen her struggling multiple times and finally last evening after this dear 16 year old was falling over and vomiting intermittently and clearly struggling just to live and another Vet hospital was completely out of line and told my friend that her dog is just fine when she clearly was not....... and refused to euthanize ... in their words will not pull the trigger. The distraught owner took her miserable dog home and I just happened to call at that time. I was APPALLED by what I heard and the condition of her dear dog.I contacted the Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center of TO and advised them of this neglectful situation and strongly requested that this dear woman be treated with great love and respect and to please help her allow her wonderful long term friend a peaceful end of life.ASAP. I also asked after all the run around she has had and the huge medical expenses that she has incurred in the past couple of months (that did not warrant any quality of life) would be taken into consideration and to please give this person a break.I so appreciate that VSEC listened to the concerns of a citizen (myself) and provided a peaceful and gentle end of life for her dog and also charged her very little for their great service. She stated that the staff were wonderful and caring and acknowledged her dogs suffering and no time was wasted. We rushed our English bulldog of 4 years old to there emergency room because it was the only one open. I think it might’ve been the biggest mistake of my life. They kept him for over 2 nights before they even got back to us on how he was or what would happen. At that point he was practically dead. We whent in to see him one last time and while we were there they told us he would make it and be fine soon. Shortly after they came back into the room asking for $400 for an ultrasound which we payed for. 4 minutes after leaving we got a call and they told us he had passed. Took our little girl in per our Vets advice to see if they could help with the more difficult issues she may have. Instead they admitted her and treated her for what we already knew about and was already being treating for. Long story short they missed diagnosed her and just a few days after she came home she is now passed. They also charged us $6,000 for not much of anything just ran simple blood test which had already been ran and done and never addressed her real issue that killed her. Charged $45.00 for each time they gave her a pill and charged $78.00 an hour for an IV. Ill pray for them because I dont believe God can or will forgive them!

Went to the Emergency Center for the first time, about a month ago, my 18 years old cat was having difficult breathing and she was in stage 3 of kidney failure. I can’t said enough about Dr Will Jolley, and the people that works there. As the pet sitter, I was directed by the pets owners to transfer their dog to this center for care. They were simuiltaneously on the phone with the owner when I called to confirm Id be dropping the dog off. At arrival I again explained that they were in touch with the owner for medical decisions and payment. The staff said I could not leave until the dog had been seen by the vet and the estimate was given. I explained that the owners were waiting by the phone and were prepared for their dogs overnight stay and any billing/medical decisions. They made me fill out the owners paperwork and I waited in the freezing parking lot (due to COVID) for hours! At almost 2am I received a phone call from the vet who divulged all of the information that was supposed to be given to the owners. I told her that it was none of my business and she needed to call the owners. She said that no one told her that I was not making medical decisions and that I could just go home. I told 3 different people in their office that I was just the dog UBER. The following day I was told to pick up the dog at 6pm. I drove from Winnetka to Thousand Oaks only to wait 1 hr and 15 mintues for the dog. If they were busy, might they call and tell me to come later? Every 15 mintues you have to call them back as the line hangs up on you and times out. The staff never apologized for my treatment the night before. They gave me the meds and when I got home, one of the meds had a pointed tip that was supposed to be dispensed into a pointed syringe?! They are supposed to cut the tip off so you put the syringe into the top of the bottle. Poor communication across the board, poor execution, zero respect for your time, and no apologies for their mistakes. The worst experience ever.

Before I open up about the horrendous and unfair experience I had with this thieving organization, I want to say that I understand emergency veterinary medicine is stressful and costly– I do feel for the medical professionals working here.HOWEVER, the staff is quite possibly the slowest and most unresponsive Ive ever met in my life, they made us wait 5+ hours for what THEY SAID would take 2. I actually could have watched a YouTube tutorial and saved my pets life in less time than they processed his admission. Ive been on many many calls where they placed me on a 25 minute hold then hung up, or even worse, got on the line and told me they could not help me. The administrative manager, Paul, told me on different occasions he would look into my issue and call me back, but I end up having to call him back and he’s not available for me. But you know what, I’m a very understanding guy, it’s an emergency clinic, and stuff happens. I just wanted communication. They could have told me it would take longer than expected or they could actually call back when they say they would, but they didn’t and that is the issue.More so, they charged for a procedure I did not consent to. I spoke with Dr. Ryan Beverly over the phone and we agreed on a treatment plan that was clear and concise. Also we agreed that the procedure of getting blood work done was redundant and nonessential, but can you guess what magically appeared on the bill (that was not on the consent form) when it came time for discharge? A $300 charge for blood work I did not consent to. During the discharge I tried to explain that I did not consent to the procedure, but the staff told me it was out of their hands and that I should speak with the manager the next day. Understandable. However, when I called Paul, the manager, he told me, “I don’t see an issue. The charge was within the range we gave you.” What our poor Paul doesn’t understand is that if the treatment’s cost is under the lower end of the range, they should refund me the difference. What they did instead is racked up a bigger bill and then told me it was essential and unavoidable. It is awfully funny that Dr. Beverly told me otherwise the day before.Now it has been over a week since I spoke to Paul and he is avoiding me like the plague. No follow ups, no progress on my case, not even an answer when I call. It is very sad that these people have no passion for what they do besides making money. If I ever have to visit this money-hungry institution again I might have to take out a loan or sell a kidney because I’m just a broke college student.I’m not a complainer or someone who writes Google/Yelp reviews. I am just a person who treats everyone nicely and wants to be treated fairly in return, but I now know that VSEC has no compassion, empathy, or moral. Except for Dr. Beverly, thanks for your help, you are the only real one working at that clinic and I feel for you.Save your time, money, sanity, and happiness by going quite literally anywhere else to seek help.

Went to VSEC for an X-RAY because my dog had a possible obstruction in her intestine. We told them our primary veterinarians X-RAY machine was down and we wanted to get the X-RAY and take it back to our primary veterinarian for treatment. Before they would do the X-RAY, they wanted us to agree to pay a $3100 dollar bill which included all kinds of miscellaneous testing, blood work and ultrasound. When we asked for just the X-RAY and IV fluids so our dog could stay hydrated, they kept trying to convince us to get the treatment/surgery done at their facility, which meant agreeing to the $3100 dollar bill upfront. This $3100 dollar did not include sugery! After several hours of going back and forth, they finally agreed to do just the X-RAY and the IV fluids. After another hour or two, the X-RAY still was not done and our dog still had no fluids. When we tried talking to Doctor Pinkerton about why the IV fluids were not started, she lied and said we refused to pay for anything outside of the X-RAY. We told her we were very specific when we asked them to do the X-RAY and get our dog on IV fluids because wanted to keep her hydrated. Doctor Pinkerton refused to talk to us about this topic any further saying she wanted to move forward, but yet again she pressured us to get the surgery at their facility with still no X-RAY to determine if there was an obstruction. Once I asked them for the estimate for surgery, we were provided with an estimate of the original $3100 plus another $4000-$8000 dollars by the time they were done with all the treatment/sugery. I guess VSEC thinks money is grown on trees. After about 5-6 hours of drama and going back and forth, we grabbed our X-RAY and our dehydrated dog and returned to our primary veterinarian. We looked at the X-RAYs with our veterinarian and within 5 minutes, our dog was ready for surgery. Total bill out the door $2000, NOT the same as VSEC trying to charge us between 7 and 11 thousand dollars.If you use VSEC for your veterinarian, I would suggest you question every test and charge before agreeing to pay anything. They obviously only care about making money.

My regular veterinarian referred me to VSEC for some advanced diagnostic procedures for my cat that she was unable to perform at her practice. Based on my experience here, I can see why. Everyone I met here was courteous and kind. The veterinary specialist that took care of my cat listened to me, went over everything with me very thoroughly, and answered my many questions that I had. It was clear they all cared about the well being of my cat. Should I have an emergency for my cat or my other pets, or further need for advanced diagnostics or care that my regular veterinarian cannot provide, I will return here, no doubt!

They refused care for an animal after stating I will not sign a $1000 form to do certain exams. I do not have the financial capability to do so, but even then they still demanded countless times that I sign it. My animal needed sutures and some pain medication so that I would be able to take him home until the next morning seeing as it was late. They did not suture him and only provided him with pain meds. Dr. Ghormley at VSEC is excellent. She is incredibly responsive and dedicated to her patients (our 13 year old kitty has been under her care for over 6 months now, diagnosed with uncontrolled diabetes, pancreatitis and severe IBD after a routine dental procedure in July 2020). Our previous vet had incorrectly diagnosed her with cancer and had put her on chemo as well as nearly 3 months of Prednilosone which had severely adversely affected her pancreas and made her incredibly sick. Dr. Ghormley has finally been able to stabilize her and give her most of her quality of life back. The VSEC staff are also very caring and proficient.Ive rated 4 instead of 5 only because of the cost. It cost nearly $3K to have our kitty spend one night in the hospital there and another $2K+ for an endoscopy. Cost aside, however, we are so grateful to Dr. Ghormley for all of her help. She is efficient and extremely knowledgeable and always quickly returns phone calls (and emails) even when she is swamped with patients or on leave - if it is urgent she is there when she can be which is so reassuring when you have a chronically ill pet. You are in very good hands if Dr. Ghormley is your pets internist.

Paid 5,000 for a surgery. The techs and doctors were wonderful and were great with my pet, BUT EVERY time you bring your pet back there is a huge EXTRA fee!! For the techs time, follow-up X-rays! Best Veterinary Specialty clinic in the area. Staff is always lovely, and Medical Director Dr Norris is both a fabulous surgeon as well as a wonderful person. I have been several times, including once where they actually referred me to another urgent care facility so I didn’t have to wait, as my pet did not require emergency care (which they checked before referring me) and they had a full waiting room. My Golden has now had ACL surgery there and the care/follow up was amazing. I highly recommend for Emergency & Specialty care (they do not do routine wellnesses visit, dental etc)

I came here when my dog was whimpering and acting strange. They diagnosed him with marijuana toxification, which I assured them couldnt be the case. He received fluids and a we got a blood test. When we left my dog could no longer walk. Our primary vet diagnosed it as a neck injury with severe paralysis (he was also wrong). I returned to VSCE a few nights later to relive my dog of his pain and life, but they wouldnt euthanize him.Update4/11/18: after visiting several different vets, all with different diagnosis, we ended up at Dr. Hannah at Park animal hospital in Simi. We never found the cause, it is assumed to be some brain infection. My dog is now 90% better.

My cat had saddle thrombus, but we didn’t know that. The lady at the front figured it out but still told us we needed to wait 3 hours there, and if we left it would be a 5 hour wait. No treatment other than a $300 blood test to let us know the severity of the Parvo 3 hours after arriving. We brought our dog here because she was very sick. They stabilized her but wanted to do a whole bunch of procedures that were very expensive. I decided to get another opinion which validated my suspicions that extra procedures on my dog were not necessary and would be painful to her. Be very careful if you go here

I called at 9:00 am to schedule surgery at the direction of my vet in malibu. I was told I would be called back after they checked with a vet who was soon to go on maternity leave. Its hard to find exceptional veterinarians, veterinary technicians and general staff in a single facility. VSEC is one of those unicorns that has it all. Your pets will be in excellent hands. Dr. Deegan the ER overnight doctor is exceptional. Dr. Russell is one of THE best cardiologists in the country. Dr. Tangeman the internist is also phenomenal and their surgeons Dr. Norris is top notch. Technicians and hospital management are no exception - John the manager and Jenna and Eric (the head veterinary technicians) are incredibly skilled and keep the place running smoothly. Look no further. Your pet is in excellent hands.

Although I think Dr. Rodriguez is amazing trying to get through to even make an appointment is a nightmare. Continually put on hold for up to 25 minutes and no one comes back on the line. I even sent an email to voice my concerns and no one even had the courtesy to respond to my email. Just take my number and call me back. I dont want to hear one more time We are busy. That is your job to answer phones.

My wife ended up having to take our dog to this Vet ER since it was the only one open at 2100 and they took him in right away but didnt treat him except for giving him pain meds until she paid them and they lied about giving him stitches while they had him and they said after the pain meds that his heart rate was dropping and that there wasnt anything they could do unless she paid $1000 upfront for them to do X-rays, blood work, and an examination, he ended up passing because of this, terrible clinic, disreguard for actual animal health, all they want is money.

We were there in this clinic whit our dog Bagel yesterday and they let him die for Them is all about the money they wait for three long hours before to start some treatment in my dog he was suffering allot pain and vomiting and they do nothing for him. We were there at 2:30 am the Dr check him tow times and she talk with us dose two times about the prosidure it took like 30min each time for her to explaing us they maked sure first that we can pay first $500 dls for blood job and X-rays and $2500 dls for my dog stay one day and they start give him some iv at 5 am he was waiting with excruciating pain for two and half hours and after 7am they just call us to let us know that something were wrong with Bagel and die just like that now we have to pay Any wais not mater the pain that we are having right now for our lost. They weren’t compasión they don’t care if the poor dog was suffering.We had very bad experience in there we love our pets and we want the best for them in this case with Bagel it was the most wrong decision bring it in this clinic.

There are employees there with my dog who have no background with animals, no one has information about the update of my animal, the health of my animal, or the cost of the “help” they’ve probably not even given to my precious dog. If there is only one doctor and there is a serious emergency, tell the people who are walking through the door with their sick animal that its going to take awhile before being seen. I just waited over an hour and a half with my cat. If you are there, youre animal is sick! Do they care? I found it to be terribly sad and inconsiderate.
