All-around excellent.This is my vibe for a restaurant. Very chic, small, and lit by low light and candles throughout.And then there’s the food. Wow it’s so good. Went with three others so we were able to share a great many of their plates, of which I imagine change over regularly.Service was wonderful.One of my favorite meals in quite some time.Bravo!

Cute little place! Food was quite good. Not as many local wine options, but still good! Crispy rice was pretty good as well as the butter beans. Salad and bread were amazing!!! Best bread and olive oil I’ve ever had, as simple as they are.

They have a small, but not crowded indoor space. The back patio outdoor space is great. Covered by a tent and mostly out of the elements.The service was inconsistent. Sometimes good and other times slow.The food was a bit disappointing. Pecorino with fava beans 4/5, asparagus with Tonnato and capers 3.5/5, barbacoa 4.5/5, and the fried chicken 3/5.Like most of Sonoma the wine choices were good.

My daughter and I stopped in here for a quick nibble at the bar. Our wine paired nicely with our hors doeuvres and my doppio espresso was quite tasty! We had a nice time sitting there mingling with staff and other patrons...and our server was very personable and attentive, which always adds value to the experience! Looking forward to coming back for a full dining experience!

Really fantastic flavor combinations. We tried most of the menu and I really liked the melon salad and the peanut noodle dish, but everything was really delicious. The French toast was perfectly done, the salad was fresh and delicious, the sandwiches were on fresh buns and were well made. This place clearly has a passionate chef with a good understanding of flavor.

We had reservations here (recommended) and found the building clean and modestly decorated. We were seated immediately and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant works on the small plate idea so sharing the way to go.We consulted with our server and she let us try a wine. You get exactly what is listed on the menu. Radishes and butter?--dont expect it to be elevated in any way, we were served literally radishes (just plucked from the ground) plus a slab of butter. Garlic dip and chips?--do not expect homemade chips and a tasty dip, expect Ruffles potato chips and store-bought onion dip but with garlic. We ordered 6 appetizers. None of them were good or thoughtful--left more to be desired (except the bread). I thought this place was going to take a mundane dish and elevate it, but nope.We had wine and cider, both very good.The entrees were fine, just ok, not worth the price we paid for them.Overall, Valley was way overpriced with absolutely no elevation. Would not return.

The most darling eatery/wine bar in Sonoma. I believe their menu changes frequently— My friend and I loved their chilled tofu dish with peanut sauce & chili crisp and brussel sprouts with fish sauce & parm. The olive oil cake is worth the trip in itself. Will be back next time I’m in Sonoma.

Greeted and seated by a warm, gracious and friendly host and seated at a sweet corner table in outside back patio. You order at the outside counter and they bring your food to table. Service was friendly but slowed considerably at the end that we got up to order dessert (to go). It was a pretty busy Thursday evening. The spicy melon appetizer was gorgeous and refreshing though sitting in a bit too much juice. Crispy rice, fried chicken and halibut mains were fantastic. Good thing I dressed warmly and brought a blanket as I didn’t see any heaters. Got a little cold and ready to go after sitting on hard wooden chairs so ordered delicious olive oil cake to go. Love the local, seasonal values; excellent food, and nice service—will be back.

Made reservations for a busy holiday weekend at this spot. It’s nicely decorated and has a fantastically hyper-seasonal menu that’s continuously rotating, so don’t be surprised if something you saw online isn’t on that day’s menu. We were seated on the patio where you must go up to a desk and order. So in that regards, it’s pretty self-serve. Even after ordering, we often had to wait a long time for things such as small plates or another pour of wine. That left a bit to be desired.

Valley is a new bistro style cafe/restaurant that’s a nice surprise! Casual and welcoming! A well-chosen wine selection, unique food and culinary creations that are satisfying and stir the tastebuds. Stumbled in for a scrumptious afternoon tea; Valley’s pastry selections were excellent and original. I want to go back for dinner. Dinner begins at 5PM. Indoor and outdoor seating. A very pleasant patio space in back. Street parking in front. Being right at the plaza in one of the historical buildings adds to its charm and ambiance. Service and attention to detail is outstanding.

Just by chance we walked in. What a great move because we just landed in Sonoma and we’re so hungry. They sat us and got us coffee and Cava. The cute small special place was warm and just so inviting. Staff was on par as well. We ordered the chilaquiles ( No Pictures because we ate so fast) and by far the best I’ve had ever….. this is a must try place that is tucked away in the Sonoma plaza….

I had no expectations concerning this lovely restaurant, but realized it was a gem. The two owners came to our tablle because the gentleman I was with had brought back a lovely bottle of wine from Portugal. We all tasted it, and that was the beginning of a truly Michelin level of dining. I had the haddock while my partner had the beef. It was a rather disappointing experience. On service, my rating is a 2. Starting with a wait of 30 minutes past our reservation. The service at the table was mediocre, with long waits for the dishes, outside of the appetizers that came fairly quickly. The food was average with a rating of 2. A lot of the dishes were overly sour. The overall ambiance of the place is more similar to a bar than a restaurant. I found that their system requiring ordering at a separate table to be rather strange. Is it because they not have enough staff? All in all, it was a rather disappointing experience.

Labor Day weekend 2022: Valley was fantastic. We came in without a reservation with four adults and a child. They sat us near the entrance which ended up perfect because the traffic entertained our 17 month old. The food that was being served was brunch and it was delicious. We ordered the fried green tomato sandwich, French toast, fried eggs with peppers and sausage - and we recommend ALL THE THINGS. We even ordered pastries to go for the next morning (photo). We recommend and will be back! My aunt even liked the vibe of the bathroom and required I go check it out. 🙃 Very cool vibes.Update 1 year later: hasn’t changed. Amazing food. Friendly staff. Aesthetics on point. The food is so good. We had an olive oil cake that was to die for! Everything was delicious.

Dang good and very close to 5 stars for us. We had brunch. It was simple yet complex at the same time. We thought the food and service were spot on. Prices are completely reasonable for the quality. Let me tell you right now, you won’t be disappointed with their wine selection. They have amazing wines that you can buy by the bottle or they have wines by the glass. Currently as I’m writing this they have outdoor seating in the back patio and in front. If you can make reservations days ahead, trust me on this. We got lucky this night while we were in the area and wanted to try this place out and the staff was super nice. They put us on the waitlist and honestly most people will add their name on the waitlist and find another place to eat instead of waiting.The food was AMAZING. The trout was perfectly cooked and the skin was a surprise crispy treat. Everything paired so well together even the Rosé we ordered for the table. My wife had the Braised pork and our friend that tagged along had the half Chicken. This place won’t disappoint, so I recommend trying it now before it’s hard to get in.

Have been wanting to try this place but for some reason or another I keep postponing a visit. It’s hands down the best dinner I have had in a long time. Small plates for sharing and I don’t know what was better…every dish outshined the last. Such a great new addition to the Sonoma Square. Great, creative food, super charming ambiance, and the friendliest people. We felt very safe the whole time - social distanced tables, protected table mats / silverware and efficient ordering systems in place to keep everyone feeling good eating out.We ordered the olives, shishito peppers, the lettuces, eggplant, and the sausage. Everything tasted super fresh. Especially loved the dressing over the eggplant and the roasted grapes that accompanied the sausage.Last but not least - amazing wine menu with some local and natural gems. I went to Valley for a bachelorette brunch with my friends and the waitress Nichol was really mean and unkind.I loved the atmosphere and the food, but if they want to get a Michelin star again they really need to work on their customer service.It kind of put a damper on a special event.

This place is comfortable and adorable! Food ranges from excellent to good. We had shrimp toast, XO egg and greens with green goddess. So good! My entree chicken was a tad dry but flavorful. The salmon entree was small but delicious! Of note, service is a bit wonky. You need to be proactive. It’s workable though. Also the wine list is predominantly french. Which I like however we try to drink local when traveling and did find a delicious California Chardonnay.

Food is amazing, one of the nicest brunches I’ve had in a long time. They definitely take pride in their dishes and in using fresh, local ingredients. Service during our experience was lacking, however, especially for a restaurant that’s on the Michelin guide. One of the guys serving was so nice and friendly, but one of the women serving was a bit rude - was super judgmental when we asked for ketchup for the breakfast sausage (understandable that speciality restaurants sometimes don’t carry “basic” condiments, but there was no need for the judgment), and also swiftly took our dessert away before we were done with it when clearing the table, without asking. Some points of feedback for an otherwise really great experience.

There are limitations to reasonability.As if the price wasnt high enough, they add a surprise wellness tax to help finance the high cost of employees (as theyre receiving a decent pay, supposedly), but then still ask for 18-25% tip?Why 2 stars and not 1? Employee was friendly, and the food looked pretty nice. But not at this price and with such dirty extortion techniques.

Overall we really liked our meal and experience. I had very high expectations that fell a little short. Nice wine list. It did take a long time to get the wine though. The cod main dish came out Luke warm. The peppers in my chicken dish were Luke warm at best. Like the flavors a lot in the chicken. Just go. The service style is a little different- you go order at the kiosk when youre ready but they bring everything out to you. Local, fresh, amazing flavor and texture combinations... And a slightly different menu each season, so its always a culinary adventure whenever you dine at Valley. Their wine selection has a local hipster vibe, which is great for both supporting small businesses and trying new things. Plus, its right on the square so you can hit up the shops before dinner or take a stroll through the park. Its worth a try.

Very pleased and inspired to dine in this establishment. My partner and I found Valley upon searching for midweek brunch. They have an organized menu for lunch at 14:00 when we arrived. Attention to detail and dedication to locality and quality when appropriate was tip-top. All natural wine selection, friendly & gracious service from Jewels and the other staff members and accuracy with patience when providing our requested dining options.We started with the olive oil cake, which came alongside local goat yogurt and mulberries.The salad was one of the best salads we have enjoyed all year.Thank you. URGENT - OWNERS!! We have enjoyed Valley Bar & Bottle for many, many meals as locals. We write this because we care, not because we dont! Someone in your kitchen isnt washing their hands!!!! We have now heard from another restauranteur owner that a wonderful client who are locals that the large group of the client and friends just got sick from a meal there as we did three weeks ago. I have a steel stomach and never get sick off of food - I did there and an unusual sickness at that - lower cramps and three days on the toilet. My spouse was worse off! You dont want the Health Department called in, so please clean up your act. You will loose business!!!! We dont want that to happen to you! Please take this review seriously and figure out what the heck is going on in your kitchen!

The chocolate chip cookies were delish, maybe had corn meal in there, something that gave a strange texture and crunch. In a world where most restaurants lack any sense of soul or passion Valley stands out. Everyone working there is genuinely warm. Working in the local hospitality industry, I often get asked by visitors to suggest places to dine in the area. After hearing a lot about this place, I finally got a chance to visit recently. I have to say, I sure didn’t get what the buzz is about. It’s a short menu, with not much description of the dishes, which left us guessing as to how to order – are these courses, sides, mains, all to share? As it was, they all came out haphazardly, and not really in the order that we would have liked them to. It felt like someone was just cooking up random things in a kitchen and bringing them out as they were ready, with no real pace to our meal. There is an extensive wine list in contrast to the spare menu, with many of the wines imported and on the pricey side, very few were from local vineyards. My friend asked me if we would consider returning. Even though I live in town, probably not. The service people were visibly hanging out and chatting with each other while we were trying to find someone to bring us the bill, and service was minimal at best (although a service fee for health and wellness is added onto the bill). But what really got me was when we got there, we were initially seated at the farthest reaches of an empty restaurant, out back in the tent, on a chilly windy day with no heaters on, in the corner near a pile of propane tanks. I suspect it’s because we’re not young, thin, and we were not wearing “wine-country” attire or oversized trendy hats. We’re just locals going out to eat.

Amazing burrata interpretation. Loved the combo of fresh fruits, olive oils, and peppers. Smoked salmon bagel is not actually a bagel in the truest sense, but the bread was still amazing and the added salmon was fresh, filling, and in ample portions! Highly recommend to anyone looking for some fun in their dishes. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to try any wine, but I will definitely be back for a glass or two!

Could be great, but food was uneven and service was an issue.It feels like youre at a McDonalds, in that you have to go to the counter to place your order. A food runner sends out food, but no one comes to see if you need anything - you apparently have to go back to the McDonalds counter for that.One of our dishes was inedible. After realizing that no one would come to check on us, we brought it up and the woman at the counter just took it back. No apology. No question as to what the issue was. When pressed, she did admit that the chef agreed it was terrible, and then acted like she was doing us a huge favor for not charging us for it.I dont mind standing in line at a counter for a sandwich at lunch, but dinner, especially at the prices Valley charges, should be a more upscale experience.The other food was good, not great. Wine, oddly was heavy on European options. Surprising in Sonoma.

We had such high hopes for this place, the menu looked so good!Unfortunately, dinner was mediocre and the service was a mixed bag. Their “hybrid” counter/service model was pretty inefficient, we waited a very long time for wine even after getting up to order it. We would have been happier to rely on it if the prices were lower as a result, but everything was just as expensive as a restaurant with better service.The patio is cute, but our heater was running out of propane and releasing zero heat. When we pointed it out to our server and asked for remediation we were assured it was fully on. It finally died mid appetizers and we froze the rest of our meal. We asked again for heat and were told it was still “on.”There are better places for dinner in Sonoma!

We had our daughters wedding reception at Valley Restaurant, and it was PERFECT! The food was the best we have ever had at any wedding, and the service was attentive, personal and caring. The staff and owners made the event warm, fun, and memorable for all. This by far the best food in the area -- creative, innovative, fresh, and delicious. Valley is first on our list of restaurants in Sonoma Valley (and the U.S.), not only for fabulous wedding receptions, but intimate dinners as well. I cant wait to return to Sonoma for one of their wonderful meals.

Simply lovely.This was my third or fourth time at Valley tonight and I have to say, even now, as it’s become harder to get a table there (thanks to a recent and well-deserved write-up in Esquire), the environment and staff are as friendly and inviting as ever, with no pretense whatsoever.The food is delicious and humble, and the wine is out-of-this-world good. Tonight we enjoyed the 2019 Sandlands Trousseau, which as I found out after looking for it online later, is quite hard to come by. It was such a killer recommendation to go with our meal. The half chicken and pork were phenomenal, and the coppinger cheese, accompanied by fresh mulberries, was a standout.As someone with food allergies, I appreciate the time and care they take to accommodate my restrictions. It is such a comfortable feeling to dine with peace of mind.This is such a gem on the Sonoma square and while I wish more restaurants were like it, I also know that’s what makes it special. We had the loveliest experience here and will absolutely be back. The space has been reimagined and modernized, yet feels warm, inviting, and intimate. We opted for mainly the small plates and split one ‘main’, and we were extremely happy with the choice. Our favorites included the shrimp roll (we ordered two they were so good), the XO egg and the halibut ceviche. Everything was well-balanced, the seafood was bright without being too acidic and we were pleasantly surprised with our local wine choice that was both inexpensive and paired perfectly with everything we ordered. What a nice spot to add to the options on the square and we’re excited to see what offerings will be on the menu the next time we visit. Well done!

This place sparkles — truly a hidden gem on the square. The small bottle shop and bar fronts a beautiful backyard courtyard, and the tables on the square are held for walk-ins. Its not cheap, but the food is fresh, delicious, exquisitely prepared, and the menu is constantly changing. The service (and single-point ordering set-up for covid) is effortless and friendly. I can’t stop thinking about the meal I had yesterday! 2 poached eggs atop fresh ramen noodles in a soup with butternut squash and pea shoots. The flavors of the soup were complex and deep, the poached eggs when broken thickened the soup and complemented the spiciness of it all. One of the most special dinners I had in California during my trip to Sonoma/Napa Valley. The place came highly recommended via friends in NY who knew the owners and I am glad I went out of my way to get a table here. All COVID precautions are taken quite seriously which made us feel safe, likewise we lucked out with perfect weather so we were able to sit in their garden in the back. Started with the favas, cheese, bread and butter, as well as the shrimp roll (holy NOMS). Then went into the chicken and coconut curry halibut. Ended with the olive oil cake. Wine list was outstanding....but we had just come from an intense Zinfandel tasting so all I could stomach was the kombucha (which was also so damned delicious) Run...do not walk to Valley! Also god bless whoever picked that candle in the bathroom, I want my house to smell like that! :)

I had one of the best dinners ive had in a while here. Valley was sophisticated without being pretentious, and food was amazing and comfortable. All dishes were packed with flavors and delightful texture- perfect balance of tenderness, crispiness, juiciness... Staff were friendly and full of smiles. My wife and i had braised pork with kimchi, potato gratin, crispy rice with ginger sauce, and smoked trout dip (I butchered some plate names here). Smoked trout dip was good combination of saltiness and smokiness. Now, the bomb was the the other three. Pork was sooo good- tender, flavorful, just perfect. Kimchi that complemented it... I thought it must have been mass produced, and i mean it as a compliment- i grew up in Korea, and few make kimchi themselves anymore. Their kimchi was too perfect for me to even imagine it was in-house made. If my wife didnt point out theres cilantro in kimchi, i wouldnt asked if they made it themselves. Though my wifes not a fan of cilantro, i was thoroughly impressed with kimchi-cilantro combination, and how it worked amazingly with the pork. And oh the pork... Did i mention how amazing the pork was? Potato gratin was also great- creamy, a little crispy bits on the edges... And the crispy rice... Oh wow. Its common humble food, but they made it just perfectly crispy, and it just worked. Oddly enough items i recognized from Korea, but not a Korean chef (not bad or good, just an observation). My mouth is watering, and Id definitely be back when i visit Napa-Sonoma next time.

I ventured out for my first outdoor dining experience since February for the opening night of Valley Bar & Bottle in downtown Sonoma.The restaurant and wine bar is located in the former spot of Harvest Moon.Guests are greeted at the entrance, on the sidewalk, and must wait to be brought through the restaurant to the outdoor patio. (Or perhaps to be seated at one of two tables out front.) Before entering, staff ask if you have any COVID-19 related symptoms and they sanitize your hands. Guests must wear masks at all times except when eating or sipping beverages. (Customers abided, which made me extremely happy!)The interior features a wraparound bar, a wall featuring wines by the bottle for sale (25% off the menu price for to go wine), and the post stamp kitchen still remains. A piano is also inside, with a book of Kate Bush songs sitting on it.The patio has been touched up and painted. Cactus and succulents line the walls.There were only 10 tables to allow for social distancing. After being provided disposable menus (a wine list, wines by the glass list, beer/cider list, and a food menu) guests go up to a staffed register in the middle of the floor and place their order (with your mask on). Servers then bring your food, drink, etc to the table.Upon entry, we were greeted by the sommelier (who is also a co-owner) with a glass of pet nat that Valley sourced specifically for the opening. A field blend, it was a delicate, lovely sparkler - the best pet nat Ive had (no funk). It was a nice treat.The menu features tapas style offerings and a few shareable plates. This is the team who led the Scribe kitchen and hospitality end for a number of years (in fact, the Scribe family was there for the opening).We enjoyed the XO egg (one egg with homemade XO sauce, it was divine), Don Bocarte anchovies (which were presented in a silky vinegar-oil dressing that was perfect with bread), bread and butter (the bread is from a baker in Napa -slightly sour, really good), the shrimp roll (a lobster style roll, too much celery for my taste), and lettuces with green goddess and avocado (the best salad I have had in ages. Baby lettuce and the dressing was great).We sipped Goat Rock Cider Company peary and Gruner Veltliner from Wachau, which was presented by the sommelier-owner. The wine list is a mix of American and European wines. Majority, if not all, are natural, organic or biodynamic. Many small producers. I was impressed with the list. They also have beer, cider and NA drinks.The service was friendly and unintrusive. Gloves were worn to clear dishes. I felt very comfortable and safe to be dining there.Suffice to say, I was impressed. This is the type of experience and restaurant I look for when Im visiting San Francisco, New York, or traveling in general. Im so happy they chose our Valley for their Valley.Valley is open daily at 5 PM. Reservations via Resy highly recommended.

I was full of expectations when I saw the Michelin recommendation, but I was completely disappointed after eating. The dining experience was very poor.The first is the seating arrangement. There are not many indoor seats, and seats are arranged outdoors. But it rained on the day of the meal, so the outdoor seating area was surrounded by two rain shelters. However, our seats were next to the gap between the two shelters, and wind and rain penetrated, so it was quite cold. I saw a heater near the seat on the inside and asked if the heater could be moved. The waiter refused, which is understandable. Maybe guests nearby need it.After ordering, we waited about 20 minutes for the salad to be served. At this time, only about 60% of the seats were occupied, so the serving speed was slower than expected. We ordered two identical dishes (duck leg noodles), but the seasoning and meat quality of the two duck legs were completely different, and one of them was completely tasteless and dry. I originally wanted to respond to the waiter, but no waiter came to ask if there was any problem with the meal until the end of the meal. Even after we waited for more than ten minutes, no waiter came, and we were asked to leave our seats and ask the waiter for the bill., it seems that the service manpower is obviously insufficient.The most outrageous thing was the waiters attitude when he brought us the bill. He threw the bill on the table and left without looking back. This was the last straw for us. We only tipped $0.68 because the service attitude was really bad.The most satisfying item of the whole meal is coffee+tonic. The sour and bitter flavors are harmoniously matched, so I gave it two stars.
