If you are looking to get support for, or purchase, RC cars or planes, this is the place to go. What is key here is the team of highly experienced people that can answer all questions, provide parts on site, and handle repairs. They are a great resource for Traxxas vehicles, among other brands. Prices are lower then youd expect, about the same as online for most items. They have a nice 1\28 scale track but you can only run Kyosho Mini-zs on it which is a shame.

Ultimate is the way to go, the best hobby shop in OC hands down. Everyone is friendly, always helpful and very knowledgeable in the hobby. Buying online isn’t as gratifying as buying in person and ultimate has a wide variety of rc whether its on-road, off-road or up in the air. Support your local hobby shop!!

This place is quiet busy during the weekends (I came on a Sunday). There are many staff helping in the store but only one register window open due to COVID. The line gets pretty long, and it will take some time to get checked out. I didn’t exactly feel comfortable lining up in-door for that long between 2 shelves with 10 other people standing close to each other... and trust me, people gets closer and closer to you after lining up for a few minutes. I hope they could have more checkout windows and STRICT rules regarding the space between people. It would be a way better experience. Please stay safe out there everyone! 👍

Bought a used nitro RC car, Young guy there told me the engine was no good, dont bother putting money into it, gave it to a friend, friend got it running and is still using it. Bought another Near new RC car with 10 minutes of run time, went in to get some accessories knowing this car runs and operates properly, Same young guy behind the counter told me my new car had a bad engine and will never run because it has no compression, I literally ran it 2 hours before coming into their shop, and ran it after leaving their shop. The guys over 30 seem to know their stuff, The young kids there dont seem to know the right things and will tell you wrong information. I now will only go there to buy nitro if I have to.

This is my go-to local hobby shop. Well its the only one really. They usually have a lot of stock, and the employees are very nice and respectful. The manager is also very nice and fair. The soldering jobs I have them do are very nice tidy. But when I go in there, its mainly for vanquish items, which they do (usually) stock a lot of.

Poor service. I have bought many things from this hobby shop (paints, cutting tools, putty, glues, etc.) and went in to buy some items today and exchange one can of paint I did not use (still sealed and with the price tag on it). The clerk asked the manager and he said no exchange because we dont know if you kept it in your hot car. I told him hes making a big deal out of it and forget it. You just lost a customer forever for a $5 can of spray paint you wouldnt exchange. Ill get my hobby supplies elsewhere from now on. Good luck

This place has become my go to place.Staff- very knowledgeable, friendly and all around great people.Product- they have petty much whatever you are looking for. If you have young kids and they want to get into a hobby, try out the Tamiya Mini 4. For less than $20 You can buy a kit and race. They have a race every other Saturday. All the other racers are friendly and willing to help.

Great place and super helpful staff. I had a battery/charger issue and they were able to help diagnose it and even educate me on how to make sure it doesnt happen again. Great staff! I came in looking for a replacement battery for a ~20 yr old RC plane I was trying to get up and running again. The battery connections had been deprecated for a while and they did not have it in stores. They were patient with me while I tried to figure out if I could retrofit a new battery. With their help, I was able to do a retrofit and now it’s flying again!

Purchased a $300 ARRMA RC car for his bday and it lasted about 30 secs. Brought it back into the store to let them check it out and they said the battery is bad but couldn’t do anything for me. Don’t recommend buying anything from the store directly buy everything online save your self the pain. They can’t help you at the store with any issues anyways.

This shop has been keeping the RC hobby alive for a very long while since I started in the mid 90s. It had tons of hard to find Yokomo parts and other cool stuff during that time. Definitely a staple in the community. Very glad it is still around.

First rc ever bought, came in looked around and asked some question, every question I asked I received a short “answer”. End up buying a traxxxas rustler, get home charged it, played with it for 2 min and I noticed the reverse wasn’t working properly. Called the next day, explained to someone my situation and they tell me no problem come in and we’ll exchange it for a new one. I come in and they look at it for 10 seconds and tell me the car works fine and they don’t do any kind of refunds or exchange. I was told by a few friends not to go to this store cause they are not what they use to be years go. They also had a few bad experiences, of course I didn’t listen 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️. Never coming back.

My initial review was 1 star which prompted my review below. We needed another part today, everything was closed so we had no choice but to come back. We got Cory again, this time round much more helpful and took the time to fix the issue. He might have had a bad day on our initial visit so I’m willing to update my review to be fair.Initial Review:If you are a beginner or moderate experienced RC owner do not waste your time going to this store, customer service was terrible. We got brushed off immediately when we walked in. Got handed off to Cory who was short with us and extremely unhelpful. When asked if he could help install the part, he told us he didn’t have time to assist us because he was “slammed” with the other 2 customers in the store despite having 4 employees working. If you’re not an advanced RC user avoid going here, they treat you like you’re clueless, only want your money and then send you on your way with little or no helpful insights. We’ll never come here again, I’d rather drive another 15 miles to their competitor than be treated this poorly. If I was this small business owner I’d reevaluate how my employees are treating customers immediately.

PROS: Very friendly staff and good prices, even when compared to the major online stores.CONS: No military / veterans discounts and unwillingness to accept mobile payments. The former being the reason for less than 5 stars.BOTTOM LINE: Really helpful and friendly staff. This shop generally has better prices than buying online. On top of that their advice and expertise is worth the trip to pick up a new rig. When I break stuff they usually have it in stock or can recommend upgrades.

The good part about the store is the knowledge base, they generally are helpful and they have a descent selection of RCs.; but the return policy and having to go directly to the manufacturer is not very helpful to todays hobbiest. It seems that they should take more of an interest as to refunds and exchanges. Retaining your customers has to be number 1…… not just a quick sell. Just a suggestion….

I purchased a Traxxas slash 2wd at another store for my 11 year old son our first time with an electric race car. It was working great but 3 months in the steering stopped working. I looked online for answers and help but that was time consuming. I found ultimate hobbies online so I called to explain my problem they simply said bring it we can diagnose for you while your here. So I did. My first time at this store. In 30 seconds they had found the steering servo was bad. I was given the understanding of the problem of the stock part and options for upgrades. I chose the upgrade with steel gears instead of plastic. They were busy many customers there they said they could install the part if I didn’t mind waiting or if I felt comfortable doing it myself I could use the tables they have set up right there in the store. I chose to do it myself it was pretty easy and I used that time to teach my son and let him help with the repairs. I was very grateful for the quick diagnosis they gave me and soon my son and I were off to a dirt track. Thank you ultimate hobbies for a great experience we will be back

Last few times I went there, the staff had very bad attitudes. One kid argued with me about if shells get primered or not. He was adamant that no one did that. Every shell I bought predone was primered. Also, if they dont have a part, they dont try to look on line for you. They just say they dont got it and shrug their shoulders. Each time I go there it gets worse, so Im done.

Literally spend a few hundred bucks here monthly. Call about a battery it’s $10. Last one and I ask if they can set it aside for one hour, one hour not one day. Kid says his manager said they can’t do holds.l because they been busy. It’s a $10 battery not a $700 car! I told him I’m in there weekly and not just to chat, just says sorry. I get there 45 minutes later and he says he just sold it sorry.Let me tell you, I go in to support my local hobby shop not because I can’t find parts online. Actually they don’t carry much but I support the ones remaining. Well today you just lost my business because of this bull$&%^. I will wait the extra couple of days and order online now. Amazing! The people here actually took the time to share the Knowledge and show their true appreciation for the hobby. It was very nice to finally find people who care. Ended up getting exactly what I needed without being treated like a boy super green newbie. All the kids/people there are very helpful, some are very knowledgeable, others are willing to find answers if they dont know. I have many different type of RC cars and they have always been able to help. Had my Nitro Car On Road car and Tmaxx tuned there and always came out great. No more of these shops around any more unfortunately since Hobby People went out of business.

I spent a ton at this store because it was close to my office and I am new to the hobby. I found that they had a good floor staff, but dont dare to try to return anything. Management is very hostile. I got a plane that was basically dead out of the box (bad electronics). I took the plane back in to show them. I asked for either an exchange or at least for them to send it back to the manufacturer for me. They told me they wont exchange anything that was opened (even with a receipt and it never worked to begin with). I get it, as they dont want used models on their hands. What I did not get was the fact that they would not help me send it back. They said that they did want to spend money to do so (I guess its OK for me to spend my money). I suppose that they have more customers than they know what to do with, as I was walking out the door with my plane, the manager, who is the son of the owner, proceeded to badger me. He was questioning my ethics for simply asking them for help while I was trying to leave the store. Keep in mind that this is after I spent thousands of dollars over the past few months, and I had a receipt in hand for this plane. It was weird, I was not angry customer guy or anything like that, very polite up until the very end. It appears that I really offended management for asking for their help with a return. My mistake was not realizing that it was more important for them to have money instead of me having a working plane. Needless to say I will never go back. I would recommend Robs or Gearbox if you value customer service, not just at the point of sale, but with customer service that shows that they truly value their customers.

Kids working there are nice and k,owledgable but I ordered a very simple traxxas part that should have been received in a timely manner, however it took them over 20 days to get the part. Asked if they could waive the remainder of what I owed ($6.15) for having to wait nearly a month for a part I could have ordered online with less hassle. Would have given more stars if there customer service was ok but they didnt even want to waive my remaining fee. Just order parts online. The store is great for stuff in stock but their prices are not even that great. Visit Robs RC in Huntington Beach area. They even match online prices if they can. Ultimate Hobbies has dissapointed me in the level of their customer service, placing blame on the manufacturer when I could have ordered the part from traxxas directly with less hassle.

We bought two RC cars for our kids for christmas. They helped my wife pick them out and were super nice. we then crashed them on christmas day (our fault), went in this morning (day after christmas) and they had lots of staff on hand, provided the parts I needed which were all reasonably priced and installed them for me for free. We then went home and crashed them again (I know). I went back, got the axle replaced which was cheap and again they installed for free. Service was great prices are great. Ill be shopping here again.

I have been to this store many, many times both last year and this year 2016. Being brand new to the hobby, ie less than a year, I certainly DO NOT understand the posts here about poor customer service. At times it has almost been overwhelming the number of times I am asked if I need help when just browsing. This is not an employees fault but more that they are adequately staffed and a large retail store, if just browsing it can get annoying sometimes. Everytime I have asked for help, they are prompt, have been honest and had great knowledge. I unfortunately have been on a work disability and have more than I desire of free time thus am compairing this store to every hobby shop in Orange County and a few in LA County recently, as to my opinion. They are 5 STARS on customer service and knowledge. Id give them a 2-3 STARS on BNF, RTF and ready to drive product inventory. It is never consistent and sporatic. The larger than their competitors shelving adds to the hit or miss selection they may or may not have at any given point. Rule of thumb definitely here is call 1st. 4 STARS on parts inventory, again huge stocking area and they have nearly always had parts for my R/C buggy, heli, and general needs when Ive shopped. However, something bad must have happened here in the store history, you may feel like you are being accused of being a thief as your parts are walked up to the register behind the long counters. That seems a bit ridiculous that I or I am sure others are going to aim for the door and bolt out with a 4 dollar plastic part in my hand, especially after I have spent a few hundred dollars here on different occasions not to mention I do not think I look affiliated with gangs or can run fast right now with a cane. Id give them a 1 STAR on common sense if that was a normal rating. The store itself is dated and I would rate a 3-4 on looks and current consumer demand. This is NOT your goto store for anything for quadcopters or helicopters that arent Blade or Dromida. They are also not your FPV stop. Overall good store and would be 5 star if they carried a consistent stock and didnt act as if unsold merchandise was more valuable than diamonds and gold, the next step will be beinging up products to the register under armed guard. My guess is the street value for my 3s 2200mAh Lipo is about what I paid for it, lol.

Not sure why the bad experiences there. We were asked multiple times if we needed help, the service was great, the checkout was easy. They have a huge selection of everything. They even have some diecast autos if you like that stuff. They also have scrapbooking and card stock for people that like to craft. Some of the scrapbooking stuff is not carried by Michaels so my wife was happy to see that. Some is a bit higher price, some lower. Depends on what you want. I was at Ultimate Hobbies this evening to see if they still had the Axial Grave Digger I saw a few days ago for $340 or so. I was there to purchase it for my husband since his birthday was coming up in a few days. I passed on giving them my business since the employee at the front of the store was very rude to my 3 year old son when he noticed he had grabbed a plastic $3 dollar toy and proceeded to let me know to put it back in a really rude way and not realizing he was 3 and doesnt understand to not grab a toy sitting right in front of him. Customer service everything to me. If it wasnt for him being rude I would have bought what I was there for. Instead I drove to Huntington Beach and bought it from Robs RC. Great people and family owned. Treated me well and didnt mind my 3 year old being himself. Its ok to let customers know what youre store policies are, but do it in a respectful manner. I wont go back to this store. My husband I rather dive to HB. Ultimate Hobbies with ultimate bad customer service.

In this day and age of the internet, its rare to be able to find a hobby shop that is still thriving. I have been a customer from 2003. I like to be able to walk into a store and talk to knowledgeable people and also see and feel first hand on the item that I am buying.They also try their best to stock a full variety of products. Other categories can wait for the second half of the practice session.Cliff seemed open to the ideas and feedback. Sadly, it was the race host that was rude and closed-minded. I was shocked to hear from my husband and my roommate who came with me to the races that the race host had given the three of us dirty looks. Not sure why, but we assume that its because were openly gay (dirty looks came before I spoke to Cliff).My message to the owner and to Cliff:Please invest in more staff for the races, not prizes. I was a die hard supporter of ultimate hobbies years ago when they were in their original spot in orange next to walmart, they moved to a shopping center on katella and now this is their last spot in tustin way smaller then the previous buildings before. I dont know what happened, stopped in a few days ago to see how things were going for them and its just sad to see how much business they lost. I still see items way overpriced and stuff i can easily get on amazon for half the cost. Hope they get it together thrive again like they use to.
