2 pieces fish dinner 12$, side of oysters (4 pieces) 7$, side of slaw 3$, tip 2$, 25$ total. Fish was good 👍, everything else was sad 😞. Chips/fries - cold, stale, saltless. Oysters were good, but hardly anything filling. Slaw - brown tint and very limp. 5:30 pm, Friday, april 12, 2024. Very nice girl rang me up - good experience. I wish the meal experience matched! Was my very first time here - perhaps there might be a better time of day to receive fresh fries and slaw. 🤷‍♂️ oh yeah, it was a to-go order and upon arriving home, no vinegar or lemons were included in the order - maybe these are items that need to be requested, or are self serve that i missed. Meal + experience = not worth the price tag, for me.Lol, I can’t believe how horrible the fries were based on all the other reviews here. Maybe my business is just not wanted. Oh well.Heads-up, not a place for “made-to-order” food.

Very reasonably priced fish and chips: for what I paid, I got plenty. Fish was tender and moist. Clams were a bit tough and dry, and I could not taste the actual clams. The best and freshest were the veggie fries with mushrooms, carrots, onions, and zucchinis. The dining areas could use some investment by updating the furniture and decor, or at least some new paint. The service was friendly and fairly quick.

Weve been enjoying Tugboats for decades & it was a delight to come home after 7 years to find them still open & awesome as ever. We ordered a 2 strip fish & chips, plus a fish & clams basket. Weather is absolutely gorgeous right now so sitting outside in the tiny ocean themed cabana felt like heaven. First bite into the onion rings on top made the better half giggle. They are the lightest, crispiest, most perfect ring. Oil isnt overused, nothing too dark, fish was perfect as always.Theres only 4 places we made a point of returning during this trip & Tugboats is one.Tiny place, been around forever & great dive fish & chipsI think we spent $28 for the 2 baskets & a soda

I’ve been to several of the Tugboat locations and this one has the nicest staff. We went for lunch, the food came out fast, hot and delicious. I got the 3 piece fish and it was more food than I expected. We ate outside in a area that was set up with covered picnic benches. It was a bit noisy from the traffic on Fair Oaks but nothing terrible. I’ve driven by this location so many times and missed seeing it, but now it’s a place I’d happily eat at again.

Can I just put this out there... we just stopped at this place for dinner. [On a whim because the one on greenback was cosed]ITS WAS SOOOOO GOOD. And to top it off, the service was BEYOND AMAZING! They made us feel beyond welcomed and appreciated. Im so surprised they were not busier. We will be back for sure! Pease check them out! The batter on everything was delicious! Were going to be regular customers here!! We had everything from the fish and chips, coleslaw, hush puppies and fried Asparagus 😋 oh and dont forget the fried bananas! Cant wait to return!

Everything we ordered here was delicious. The shrimp basket was so good, the batter used for frying is really crunchy. They gave us some fried banana as a treat and I will definitely order that too next time!

Our lunch today: Fish & Chips from Tugboat!!Fried to perfection! Golden & flakey their signs say its comparable to fish & chip London, I havent been to London, but it looks like it could come from Europe, right??We also had fried oysters & chips too!It was great service, food came out nice & hot, and quick! They brought out ketchup cocktail sauce & tartar sauce. Prices are awesome for what you get, definitely will be coming back soon!!

I wish this place was closer to where I live because its my favorite fish and chips place. Ive ordered takeout once or twice through Postmates until they stopped doing delivery so I visited in person today for the first time. My sister told me that apparently the owners here are her friends parents. I dont know them personally but they were very nice and accommodating when I was ordering (I can be quite indecisive when ordering). I decided upon 2 fish and chips (with onion rings for an extra fee instead of fries), onion rings for my husband, and lumpia. They packaged it onto trays in paper bags which they placed onto a cardboard tray with two sauces each of what i asked for. Crispy and melts in your mouth, the food is delicious and filling.

This place is so stinking cute. Little tugboat shaped building with a lovely outdoor seating area. The service is always super friendly and helpful. The food is great, too. Keep a saltshaker handy if you like your chips salted, though; but if youre watching your sodium, this is good news! Their neighbors can be a tad noisy, so try the Greenback location if you require dining in peace.

Today was my first time here and the fish & chips were not only perfect, I especially appreciated how friendly and prompt the service was (I ordered to-go and the total wait time was only 15-20 minutes).The atmosphere of the restaurant has such a nice, airy, refreshing vibe; as soon as I stepped into the restaurant, I legitimately felt like I was in a more coastal area. Even though I ordered to-go, I’m sure I would’ve loved eating there too. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating.I got the 3-piece fish which came with perfectly cooked onion rings and fries, and I also ordered the oysters and mushrooms. I enjoyed the fish and mushrooms the most. That fish in particular was cooked to absolute PERFECTION. I’ve never really enjoyed fish & chips much because other restaurants tend to serve really dry fish and soggy chips — but here, the fish was perfectly crisp yet moist and the chips were simply delicious. I’m so glad I decided to try something new today after racking my brain over what I wanted to eat. 100% recommend to anyone who wants fish & chips done right!

It was my first time and definitely not my last. They give you a squirt bottle full of tartar sauce that is creamy and light. The fries are fresh cut, and nothing tastes overly fried. This place is definitely worth a stop

This is the best fish and chips shop in town. My husband and I travel from citrus heights just for their delicious food. The young man at the counter is always courteous and pleasant even when we want extra tartar sauce. Their hush puppies are very yummy and I love their prawns. Thanks for the great food.

This favorite has gone downhill fast. Carmichael on Manzanita Last visit it was bad. But we tried again. Prices doubled from what internet said. We ordered a 3 piece. Awful cold probably old limb fries. 3 small pieces of fish that were barely the old size of barely 1. Added 1 tiny onion ring used to be 2 nice sized rings. Combo veggies cold breading fell off most pieces. Stingy on sauces (2 tarter 1/2 full and one tiny vinegar). They must have changed who owns or definetyruns manages the place. Used to give fried banana as a treat. No more. Sorry to say 2 strikes you are out. We definitely will not be patronizing this place again. See you again the day after never.

This is the best fish and chips I have ever had in my life. I have had fish and chips at the beach, and the fish wasnt even nearly as fresh as this was. Have amazing service and amazing food. I hate to put this review but I do not know what happened last week. The fish was battered differently and tasted horrible. I usually love it and have ever since we moved in to Carmichael area about three years ago but last week I don’t know what happened it all went in the garbage. I asked for malt vinegar for three orders, and I only got five but when I order two extra fish, you gave me 10 pieces of fish into me. Fish is more expensive than malt vinegar.

This place is absolutely AMAZING! Their deep fried fish is my favorite. I have tried fish places all over Sacramento, and this definitely is the best! I called an order in about 10 minutes before they opened. The nice lady was happy to take my order and she helped me decide. The food was ready in 20 minutes and it was delicious as always. I am a regular for great Fish & Chips. I have sampled them all. This Tug Boat has it down. Once I found it, I wont go anywhere else. It starts when you enter. The owner/staff are guick, warm and friendly. Your plentiful order comes out promptly. The fish is batter fried cod - done to a gentle crunch - never greasy. The French fries also a gentle crispy crunch. And there is always the bonus fried sweet onion rings to get you started. And BTW their home made Tarter sauce is delicious. We just keep on going back.

Went in toward closing time had excellent customer service first time I ever been there and the food was excellent the oil was good and clean and the vegetables they use taste and garden grown. The fish was light and juicy. They spared no expense on the condiments play make sure we had it all even the malt vinegar and coleslaw. Excellent food and service. My daughter and I came in for dinner. We were greeted right away by who I believe is the owner. He was kind and patient. It was out first time eating here. We were the only customers (so we thought). We ordered and sat down. While we waited, he filled several call in to go orders. The dining is small and clean. They have an outside patio that was visibly very clean as well. Out dinner was brought to the table. We each ordered the fish and prawns. He added 2 onion rings to our each of our orders and brought a taste of the banana dessert. Everything was delicious! We will be back!

Its a small place, so Ive never dined in, (and we live 3 minutes away). However, I know the food is good. The fish are nice and crispy- not too heavy, not too light on batter, just perfect. The chips are also well fried. So thats all theres required for a good fish-and-chips. Bonuses are, they are super friendly. All smiles and politeness- I cant appreciate that enough. The staff here is awesome. I cant speak to the food as Im deadly allergic to shellfish, so I cant even eat anything from the same oil. But my mom loved fish and chips so much, and when she became bedridden and could barely eat anymore this was all that sounded good to her. They were so nice about letting me order over the phone and then signaling me when it was ready so I could get moms dinners for her. Based on her reaction and the people she shared food with, the food seemed delicious too.

When I was ordering food I was comparing their rates with Long John silvers( where we usually go most of the time for fried seafood).LJS have coupons this place doesnt but dont judge it yet. Order 3 fish and 8 prawns and a soda for 21.50$. I was like its expensive and quantity is less but oh boy I was wrong.Service was outstanding, food... best fried sea food in USA California so far. Quantity surprisingly was more than enough and got 4 onion rings with the order. In short, a wonderful service & wonderful food. For me this place is real comfort food. Never had a bad meal or bad experience here. The staff are extremely nice and the cook always has a smile on his face. They will even throw in onion rings. It is truly very difficult rating any restaurants now days due our current world crisis. Where a might have been a bit more critical a year ago I find myself being more understanding today. There were a few people in front of me so a 20 minute wait for food wasnt any problem. When they walked my order out which included 3 full dinners to go he noted they were out of malt vinegar for the fish and chips. A bummer but not the end of the world. Only thing i would add on that is that there is a Safeway right next to the restaurant. This is obviously a very hard working family restaurant so saying anything negative gives me no pleasure. That being said, I was suprised the fish wasnt very hot right after we received it. We took it back home and warned it so it wasnt enough for me to say I wouldnt recommend this to anyone. Oh, maybe dont order the oysters

I have loved Tugboat Fish and Chips since I was a little girl. This specific location has the most exemplary service! I am never disappointed and have truly enjoyed every experience Ive had here. Im not too sure about all of the other locations but this one also seems to have a slightly more extensive menu so its fun to try some different items like lumpia or fried bananas.

Probably should have been a 4 star review because the Fish and Chips were excellent. We also got chicken which seemed to be just typical frozen chicken, I doubt they make it there. But..NO MALT VINEGAR! And they forgot the coleslaw we ordered. Now I dont know if they also just forgot the malt vinegar packets, but Id call first and confirm they have it and then double check your order when you get it. Fish and Chips needs malt vinegar and something like coleslaw to cut the grease. Review written during COVID19 for pickup.

I live near Greenback and Elkhorn. There is a Tug Boat on Green back Lane in the Sams Club Parking Lot. But I like the one on Fair Oaks and Manzanita Better. Definitely the hole in the wall. Their fish is delicious. You can even get fried catfish if you want. I got the two fish platter with chips and they throw in two onion rings for $6.99. I wish Id ordered onion rings too, they were fantastic. They have a little covered patio that goes off the side of the restaurant that looks very cozy. I definitely recommend this place.

Really dope little joint for fish and chips. If you find yourself close to here, stop in because it will not disappoint. Grab a beer and really dig in. I was pleasantly surprised with Tugboat as it is a bit of a whole in the wall, but as we all know, those can turn out to be the best spots.
