Terry, Jeremy and team were responsive and timely with my request for an estimate to have a solar power system installed. I’m expecting County inspection andsign off today.Top Hat’s pricing was very competitive, but I doubt that another company could match their professionalism and expertise.On the install, Chris kept his crew on task and explained the installation to me throughout the entire process.I highly recommend Top Hat, great company!

After obtaining quotes from three companies in early 2020, we sat back and waited on things to rebound. We went back to each company for a re-quote and after ridiculous sticker shock from two, Top Hat was the most competitive, honest and transparent with their bid. The entire process from start to finish was a breeze. We were always kept in the loop about everything from permitting, parts, installation, to the finished product! Jake and his install team were absolutely amazing. To say they are perfectionists is an understatement. See photos! So far, we are +2,104 kWh since we flipped the switch in April...I HIGHLY recommend Top Hat over ANYONE in the area. Period.

Awesome service and extremely fair pricing! They will help you get connected with a great lender. My payment is an average of what my PG&E bill was and I know it will never go up, unlike PG&Es rates. Had a pool installed and my electrical production is still enough that I never get a PG&E bill. Give Top Hat Energy a call!

Top Hat installed our residential roof solar system May 2022. The install went quick and clean. My wife and I are very happy with the results. The price was right in middle of the other quotes I obtained from other solar companies. However, Top Hats customer service won us over. The entire staff was very receptive, professional and patient with our multitude of questions. The install crew was top notch. They were very communicative in addition to keeping and leaving our place very clean. A total recommend.

Long review, so here is a quick synopsis. Professional team, best price in the north state, full service start to end, and would definitely recommend to friends and family.Top Hat install solar at my house earlier this summer (2019). I had several estimates prepared by local solar companies, Top Hat gave me the lowest bid estimate with the best equipment options and warranties.After selecting Top Hat to install the solar system I started to inquire about financing the system to take advantage of the tax credits offered this year. Again Top Hat connected me with the best solar loan option, I couldn’t find a better one... and I spent way too much time trying to.Once it came time to start the installation, Top Hat took care of everything. They obtained the required permits and set up my new account with PG&E. I was working out of town at the time and could not be there to oversee the installation. Even so, they spent extra time and effort to make every wire, box, and panel square, tight, and clean. When we encountered a minor issue where I suggested over the phone that they save time by running a conduit on the outside of my house, they went ahead and spent an extra afternoon working in my small attic so I wouldnt have to look at an additional conduit on the back of the house.Once the system was up and running they came back out and installed the latest and greatest monitoring system that paired with the new inverter they installed. This would have been a non-issue if they installed the last generation inverter, instead they made sure I had the best system possible.At every step of the process, every employee at Top Hat treated me like family, all be it much more professionally. They promised the best system at the best price, over delivered, and at the end of it all, they were under their initial estimated bid. Hands down the best contracting experience I’ve had.

My experience with Top Hat was great. Being in contracting myself I know how it is nice to have those that will express what a professional group you are. I can tell you from personal experience that my solar installation was great. We had a couple days setback due to some extremely “rocky” soil. That being said, Top Hat’s crew was on top of possible engineering changes that needed to be made. Engineering was handled quickly and we were back to it within days. I love my ground-mounted system and especially love my bills. Thank you Top Hat for a wonderful experience. Keep doing what you’re doing.

We purchased a home that Top Hat Energy had installed a solar system and whole house generator in approximately 1 year prior. All the staff we spoke with at Top Hat were so helpful in explaining the systems, providing additional information, and making us feel those system would be supported by them with the change of ownership.It was shortly after moving into the home a tree limb damaged several panels and they needed to be replaced. Again, Top Hat staff were so very kind, explained the process, and once materials were available scheduled and replaced the panels quickly for a very fair price. I cant recommend them enough. Very professional, reasonably priced, quality work, and excellent customer service. We could not be happier with the generator and solar system and support from Top Hat; I highly recommend!

Top Hat Solar installed a ground mounted system at my home in the middle of a heavy rain storm. The installation was completed on time and it was a pleasure to interact with the installation crew who seemed to have a crazy fun time while very efficiently accomplishing the installation. This is an early review as our system isnt even turned on yet ...(waiting on PGE), but if the system runs half as smooth as Top Hat Energy installation guys did well be very happy! Jeremy is professional, knowledgeable, patient and quick in his response time. The guys that came to our house were timely, neat, knowledgeable, helpful and professional. They made quick of their work and passed inspections with flying colors! The grounds where they worked were always clean and their work looked very neat when completed. We hired Top Hat to install our solar system. We consulted with other companies but in the end chose to go with Top Hat. Top Hat was referred to us by a friend that just had a system installed by them. We chose a location other than the roof and Jeremy calculated the best performance we could get. All the permits and paperwork were done for us. The install was quick and complete in less than five days. We were very pleased with the customer service that Jeremy and the crew provided. They were very courteous and respectful through the entire process. Any questions or concerns were promptly answered. Our goal was to essentially break even, to owe nothing to PG&E and for two years we have met that goal. We are very happy with our system and so glad we chose to go solar. We put in a generator as there are too many trees for solar to work successfully here. The installation went great and the crew let us know what was going on and coordinated the necessary power off time to do the job. The generator worked just fine in the one outage we have had since the installation. We will be adding batteries as soon as the rebate becomes available as we need reliable power for medical devices.

After 12 years of shopping for a solar system for our home and farm, we found Top Hat Energy, at the recommendation of our neighbors. This is a one year review as we purchased our system about 12 months ago. Recently we received our true up bill from PG&E, and as Jeremy predicted, we received a refund for our first year with the solar field Top Hat Energy Inc. planned for our home. Thats right! We made more energy then we used.Not only was the Top Hat Energy crew friendly and professional throughout the process, they have been available for any questions I have had about my system. Jeremy designed an additional generator switch box for us as well for when there is a power outage which worked great last winter. When the power went out in our area we were still watching TV and cooking dinner. Had been thinking about solar for a year or two and decided to get three bids. Called Top Hat Energy and they gave me a reasonable idea over the phone. It was a good estimate and I already had two bids so I had them come out to take a look. The real bid was the best of the three for comparable equipment. When the city inspector did his review he said they did good work. I agree. Would recommend Top Hat!Follow up. I had a minor issue with the inverter. Did not affect how the system was working but I was very pleased that top hat was on it and making sure that everything was running top notch. January 30th 2019.

I shopped energy companies for some time and interviewed 4 different companies before deciding on Top Hat 2 years ago for my Solar System in Redding after tiring of huge electric bills with PG&E. They are a family owned business with a great reputation and very fair pricing. They did everything they said they would do and on time. Very professional job that has worked perfectly now for 2 years without one problem.I bought some property way up in the mountains where there was one company that worked the area for it seemed most everyone so since it was far away and there was no complaints about this company I thought I should give them a try since they were always in the area servicing someone. Well I have had nothing but problems since the system was put in! I contacted Top Hat to see if they would travel up there and they did. My husband and I had real hesitations that solar would work for us after sitting through several sales pitches from well-known national solar installers. It was our experience that the big companies have a cookie cutter product that they want to sell you and strongly discourage deviation from the type and style of solar package that can be installed easily at the lowest cost to them. We were ready to just forget it when a friend recommended that we give Top Hat Energy a call. We are so glad we did! From the first phone contact through the final day of construction, all of the staff at Top Hat went the extra mile to ensure we were part of the process every step of the way. It has been 17 months since our solar system was installed. I wanted to wait a while before posting a review. We are on track that in 4 1/2 years the system will be paid for and we will be getting free energy for the whole year. Our first true up resulted in a $100 credit. Being a general contractor for 30 years i am quite familiar with construction. These guys met my expectations with the installation ( on a standing seam metal roof). They helped us get the tax incentive and after the rainy season started construction. The workers and office personnel were always helpful and courteous. We have used Top Hat Energy to purchase 4 off grid solar systems for installation in houses that we have built. I had no experience with solar, and they were super helpful, responsive and knowledgeable in getting us set up and producing power. We have been operating these systems for about 5 years now and they have performed flawlessly. During the Camp fire in Paradise, a fire fighter friend of ours went by our places, and with nearly every thing surrounding destroyed, he exclaimed your lights are on and the smoke detectors were going off! When we became serious about a solar system we thought of Top Hat right off because of many years of experience with them. Unlike most solar companies they were willing to listen to what we thought would work for us. Then they designed a system using components American or European made instead of chinese of indonesian made. Our system was installed expeditiously and professionally. They turned it on and it has worked perfect for 3 years. It performs even better than we hoped for and we have not paid a penny for power since. The meter runs backwards constantly. Since getting the solar installed we have called on Top Hat for other electrical work. They can do anything and one thing they do that is impressive.........they keep their appointments......what an amazing management breakthrough that is.........They may be on to something. If you dont pick Top Hat for your solar you wont get the best. I had gotten 3 estimates for my solar which is a big investment. So I researched alot. And after meeting with Brandon and Pete. Top Hat just installed an array for me at the end of 2018. Wed heard rumors that the 30% federal credit may end by Jan 1st 2019 so we made a quick decision without a lot of research or price comparison and asked Top Hat if they could get it installed for us before 2019. Wasnt till later that I started talking to other people about their arrays before I realized the price and output of my system is fantastic. We added to an existing system. They asked us what we wantedand made various recommendations but the final choice was ours to make. They helped us with our needs.Top Hat Energy was friendly andvery efficient. The pricing was fair and learning about the tax rebatewas a very nice surprise. Our system included adding a battery backup.That allows us to draw about 5 hours of power once the solar is downand there is no PGE. It allows time for PGE to come back up or for us tomake alternate plans. Top Hat was always prompt and kept us informed on the how the process was going. We used Top Hat Energy for our solar installation. We first started researching solar during the summer and had one of the start-up solar companies send a sales person out to our house. The sales person was a young guy that was likely recently trained in solar. He spent over an hour giving his sales pitch and finally he gave us the quote. He wasnt able to answer all of my questions to my satisfaction. I wanted to shop around and do more research and someone recommended Top Hat to me. I called them and they were able to look up my address and give me a rough quote over the phone based on my usage. It was a few thousand dollars less than my first quote. I could tell right away that they knew what they were doing and I told them I was interested in getting a formal quote. They put me in contact with one of the engineers, Jeremy and he sent me a quote using the same equipment as the solar company used. The quote was much more detailed than the big solar company so I knew exactly what I would be getting. He sent one of his guys out to do a shade analysis and he spent around 40 minutes on our roof getting exact measurements. The solar company didnt do that. He then modified our quote which ended up being $4,000 less than the other company with 5 more panels than the other company was planning on installing. We signed the contract at the end of July and our panels were installed within two months. It only took them a couple of days to install and they had the inspector out the next day. The job was signed off without a problem. It took two weeks for City of Redding to Interconnect our system to the grid. Our neighbor down the street had their panels installed at the exact same time as us by one of the big solar companies. We asked them about a month later how they liked having solar and they told us they still werent connected because it didnt pass inspection. I am so happy we went with a local, well respected company to do our solar installation. I would definitely recommend them to anyone!Jeremy has been extremely responsive through the whole process. He responds really quickly to emails and was always available for a phone call. After our system was live for about a month, the inverter received an error which I received by email. I found out then, that Top Hat received the same error and Jeremy contacted me to tell me they would be out the next morning to resolve it. It turns out it just needed a software upgrade and we were back up and running. I was very impressed that they are continuing to monitor our system.Our energy production has been great! I first heard Jeremy Hufft being interviewed on a local radio station in October of 2016 and was impressed by his knowledge, candor, and by his responses to questions posed by both the program hosts and callers. Having been interested in solar for many years but deterred by the expense and relative inefficiency of available systems, I was pleased to learn that solar panels were now more efficient, much lower in cost, and that REU had re-instituted its rebate program. I called Top Hat for an appointment, Jeremy came by to view our situation, and then provided a quote that was far less than anticipated. I had seen many solar installations that are visually repulsive, and mentioned my aesthetic concerns to Jeremy who responded by sending photos of their many visually appealing panel installations, all of which allayed my concerns.Due to the great snowstorm of 1968 which collapsed many Redding roofs, City codes for new construction had been made even more stringent than those of Truckee (which averages over 200 of snowfall annually), and buildings built before the mid-70s experienced significant difficulty in obtaining a permit for roof-mounted solar panels. Our beloved old home was built in 1900, and though it has a steeply pitched roof, that did not matter per the City code. Jeremy, with his years of study of structural and electrical engineering, was persistent in his repeated contacts with the City and after many months of negotiation and providing load-bearing calculations to the City of Reddings chief engineer, finally obtained a permit in Sept. 2017.Top Hats crew was efficient and meticulous in installing 16 panels on our south-facing roof and placed the inverter in an inconspicuous place not visible from the street or sidewalk. The system went live on Sept. 11, 2017, and we have been extremely pleased ever since with the look, price, and performance of our Top Hat solar installation. In the past 21.5 months, our average monthly cost for electricity has been less than $8.45, and our break-even point is less than 7 years from inception at REUs present price per kilowatt hour, and even less if rates increase.In conclusion, Jeremy and his crew were professional, communicative, efficient, tenacious in working with the City, and provided an exceptionally reasonable price for the system we selected. We can highly recommend Top Hat Solar without reservation.Sept. 25, 2020. Just a quick update: Our Top Hat system passed its 3-year anniversary early this month and we could not be more pleased with its performance. First, Let me say this is not a smoke blowing review. I will give you the good and bad details as to why Top Hat EARNED a 5 star review.My wife and I decided to have a solar system installed on our property. I did a lot of research on both the size system I needed and on companies from Chico to Shasta. Top Hat had really good reviews as well as having a few personal recommendations from friends.I contacted them in March and met with Brandon. I explained that I wanted a raised system that my horses could stand under for shelter. He showed me pictures of others they had done and explained the process fully. We went over my electric usage and he sized the system appropriately. There was no upsale or funny tactics. It was all spelled out in plain english. The only way it would be confusing is if you havent done any research first. Then you may not understand KWH usages and pairing the size system to that.He explained the different panels they use and even showed me the best bang for my buck without sacrificing quality.Once I got the quote, I felt it was reasonably priced knowing it would require engeneering to raise the system up to 7 on the low side. Now, its still expensive to do Solar, but they were less than my other quote. Plus, the 30% rebate will eventually bring that to a cost effective amount IMO.Once I signed the contract, Jeremy and Brandon came out and picked the best direction based upon aesthetics and the location I wanted it. Jeremy is no joke! He was a wealth of knowledge. He is thorough in answering questions about both the technical and basic.The actual install was to be completed in a week but we had to wait for engineering, permits and PG&E before they could get started. I didnt have to lift a finger other than to check some boxes on a form via Email. The crew was there when they said they would and even sent someone 30 minutes to my property to meet with the inspector.Once they broke ground, the total build time was 3-4 days.At the end of the build I was pretty happy and couldnt wait to flip the switch to turn it on.Here was the hiccup, I noticed that there was so much cross bracing that my horses wouldnt/couldnt go under it. I felt like it didnt serve its dual purpose. I expressed this to the employees on site and contacted Jeremy to explain.This is where a company can make or brake itself. Its not when everything goes well, its when they dont, that you learn the true integrity of a company.Im not sure where the miscommunication occurred during the build, but Jeremy didnt try to point fingers or make excuses. We spoke on the phone and he said he would handle it.Within two days, he had worked with his engineers to rectify the problem. Within a two more days, they were back out correcting the issues and maintaining the structural integrity and warranty of the structure. Final inspection went perfectly and PG&E finally did their thing and I was good to turn it on.I cant stress enough that you learn a lot about a person/company when things dont go as planned. Top Hat is definitely on top.I couldve dropped a star for that hiccup, but we are human and sometimes stuff just happens. I personally believe they earned their 5 stars from me. Called Top Hat Energy because they have been around since 1978 and involved with solar for years their reputation is well known to long time residents of Shasta County. Talked with Jeremy and he offered some options for me to reduce my electric bill but I explained I wanted a system to eliminate my PG&E bill not just reduce it. So after he listened to my needs we agreed on a system that would fit my wish list. Through out the whole process Jeremy communicated with me the entire time. He filled out all the permit and rebate forms and dealt with the PG&E paperwork. Once permit was approved my System was installed in a couple days his crew was fast and efficient and easy to get along with. In the end I have a 13.2 Kilowatt system has 54 Solar Panels and two 6000 Watt inverters I produce more than I use and have not paid a penny for electricity in 3 years. I would only recommend Top Hat because they have proven they are here to stay and are not representing a national solar company who does not have the knowledge or experience that they do.

We needed to replace our roof and knew that the federal tax credit for solar installations of 30% would start dropping after 2019. After shopping around both locally and regionally, we chose Top Hat Energy to remove a 15 year old solar system (which Top Hat bought at a reasonable price) and install a new 10.2 kWp system, with a SolarEdge invertor, 32 panels, and a 10 kWh LG battery. The latter obviated the need for a back up generator and all of the headaches with permitting, siting, etc. that would involve. Our new system works flawlessly. Our battery can be programmed to give back stored energy to PG&E during peak hours (3-8 pm). If PG&E shuts off the power due to dangerous fire conditions or storm-related outages, our battery instantaneously switches on to power a sub-panel so that critical appliances, lights, etc. in our home remain powered. Top Hat helped with all of the planning, wiring, and installation. They filled out all of the necessary County permits, PG&E paperwork, and filed for the available rebates.When problems arose with the real-time online monitoring system, Top Hat solved the problem by contacting and working with the invertor vendor to get a durable solution.The Top Hat personnel are courteous, professional, honest, and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate working with this local, family-owned business; there is no need to look elsewhere.
