First time visiting Tokyo Automotive, and it will now be the ONLY shop my husband & I trust! They were very upfront about their prices before performing services, and made it clear that they focus on QUALITY mechanics, work & parts. They gave us a thorough inspection of our car, along with a clear plan of things needed to be done, in what order to do them, and also the prices! Not only did we feel like we could completely trust them from the moment we stepped into the office, but Tatsu and Kevin were SO incredibly nice! I had an amazing experience with Tokyo Automotive. My starter in my 4Runner went out during the holidays and they took very good care of me. They are family owned and absolute experts their reputation is well deserved. Kevin the Service manager is the best he communicated all that was needed and if you like golf he is the man! I also had the pleasure of meeting the owners Akio & Kimiko. I will continue to get my vehicle serviced here. Great experience.

This was our first time going to Tokyo Automotive as my husband found them online for a local repair shop for my Mazda. It was great that they were able to take a look at my car to see if they could find the problem of a sound being made even though there was no promise that they’d be able to work on it same day. That was totally fine with us since my car was drivable. After they assessed it, they said they could fix it same day which was a pleasant surprise! During the entire process they were extremely thorough and communicated with us every step of the way. I did not feel like we were being scammed in anyway like I do when I take my car to the dealer or other places. I will for sure be taking my car here from now on!! We were up at Fullerton from San Diego to attend a graduation when our Lexus ES 330 decided to not start. A quick Google search and we found Tokyo Automotive Repair...emailed them an appointment request that night and by morning they were on it. We were so pleased with their customer service and repair work that we went ahead and had some preventative work done while the car was with them. This is a family owned business and thats how they treat you, like family. If we lived in the Fullerton/Placentia area they would be our go to repair shop. I highly recommend that you make them your go to auto repair shop!

Had a GREAT experience with Tokyo Automotive. Have a 2012 Lexus RX450H, that my local mechanic couldn’t determine issue. Rather than going to dealer, saw this shop and it’s great reviews on local FB buzz. They spent a lot of time and effort to find the complicated issue, and now my car is running great! Felt the price I paid was fair given the amount of detail and time needed to really correct issue (fuel injectors, all 6). I would highly recommend them!

This was a great and easy experience the whole way through. They give you a full inspection report, tell you ahead of time what they’re going to be working on and offer a system from which to watch the repairs and inspections being checked off. I had a great experience at Tokyo Automotive. They are good, honest people and made sure to explain exactly what they would be doing and why. They were extremely informative and trustworthy. They even offer free rides to pick you up/drop you off if you are local, and offered to let me borrow a car for a few days while they worked on my car. Would definitely recommend! You will not get ripped off by them.

Ive been coming to Tokyo Auto for over 20 years I believe it to be the number 1 Japanese automative repair shop in OC! Tatsu is always looking for a challenge if your car is sick let him Fix your car and you wont be disappointed. Got flat tire on Monday it was patched and fixed fuel cleaner changed out by Tuesday morning!

Spending only part of the year in the area, I was looking for a shop close by to work on my 10-year-old Lexus. The yelp reviews were good so I booked an appointment. For a small independent shop the experience was good. George is a superior diagnostician and technician. Kevin was excellent at communicating what was about to happen and the costs estimates. A very friendly atmosphere. A day before departure on a long trip, I had another issue with my Lexus. They welcomed me on short notice and completed the repairs by the end of the day. I was extremely grateful . I would highly recommend anyone to try Tokyo automotive repair.

I called this place to ask for a free inspection after he asked me a couple questions regarding the issue, I was talking and trying to explain that to him and he kept interrupting me. Towards the end he told me “I don’t work on Dodges” You could’ve asked me that before I even explained to you what the issue was. Next time do that, just wasting my time.

I had a very random situation due to an aftermarket product which caused a major issue for my car. Tokyo automotive was able to find the issue and fix it. They took their time and really made sure they got to the root of the problem. Never would I have thought it be that after market part. It took several steps and stages. This was not an overnight fix. But they were there to support me, and make sure this car was up and running. I had the best time experience dealing with Kevin. He always kept me in the loop. Special thanks to the owner do Tokyo automotive too for taking this issue on. It wasn’t cheap, but hey we got it fixed. Thanks guys! Hope to visit again but just for regular maintenance haha not major repairs. Highly recommend this place.

I have a 2004 Infiniti g35 that I have had since I was 16. It was my first car and it has a lot of sentimental value to me.I took my car to Tokyo Automotive last week for an oil leak. They did a full inspection on the car and found a few other things that needed to be repaired. To fix everything at once was a little bit out of budget for me so I had them only fix the oil leak which was my main concern given that I dont drive the car as much as I used to. Its kind of just my weekend car.The staff was incredibly helpful, very professional and friendly. They made me feel very comfortable leaving my car here given the sentimental value.Their front office and shop are nice and clean and well organized.They fixed my oil leak and installed my aftermarket skid plate underneath in a very timely manner. I had a good feeling from the moment I walked in that they were going to take care of me.As you may read in other reviews, their labor costs are a little higher than some other places. Not any higher than a dealership would charge you. TRUST ME when I say you get what you pay for when it comes to mechanic services. I learned the hard way at my old mechanic shop that cheaper is not always better. I feel so relieved now knowing that I can take my car here. Absolutely 5 star everything. Had to pay diagnostic fee for them to confirm issue I reported for transmission, when asked them to service it (fluid flush and filter replacement-no service provided). No service report provided with issues or diagnostics. Received car back with bird poop all over inside car door from them leaving the window open.

First time to this shop. Purchased a new to me used Tundra and needed a alignment as well as a general inspection of the major areas of the Vehicle. Called Tatsu who was very warm and friendly and he was able to get my truck into the shop the following afternoon. Arrived at the shop dropped my vehicle off and was given a ride home (didnt have to uber). Few hours later the shop called and my truck was ready for pick up. Fair pricing and honest work. What was most impressive was the detailed inspection report with the photographs. Really a great way to share with customers the condition of their vehicle. I will be back and highly recommend.

I Should have left this message 4 weeks ago. Had a issue with the knobb of my A/C in my car was stuck. Kevin and his guys squeezed me in no problem. Could have literally sold me on the idea of a whole new front dash if he wanted to. But instead he fixed the issue very quickly and not only that but because it was such a quick fix. He refused to charge me even when i insisted to pay. Amazing people. I will definitely be back whenever i have any more car issues.

I am glad I came to this shop, being a proud owner of 1996 Toyota LandCruiser on a budget, when something goes wrong, I fear the worst, i know it is not an easy truck to work with, when I brought it here, they did the inspection and talked to me about the possibilities, they advised me to do some preliminary work on it and see if the issue went away, they were so knowledgeable that they did advise me on the major things that i can prepare for and not tried to do it right away, their judgement was so great, My truck feels totally rejuvenated and for now it drives great with the initial recommendation. I will definitely comeback when the time comes for another service, they were so courtesy, they give me a ride home and pick me up when the truck was completed. Thank you very much!

In a nutshell: This was probably one of the best experiences Ive ever had with a repair shop.The details: My wife and I recently purchased a used 2021 Toyota, and we wanted to do a thorough maintenance check, as well as a wheel alignment. Kevin (I believe the manager) was easy to communicate with and upfront with the pricing. The entire process integrated an online link, that allowed me to check in remotely on the work. When everything was finished, Kevin also went through some preventative maintenance options, but wasnt pushy about them. In fact, he actually had a mechanic who showed me exactly what the suggestion entailed, and how it helped the car. (*Side note - From their garage, you can tell it reflects their high standards. These guys take pride in their work.) Overall, the repair was thorough, efficient, and expertly done. Highly recommend.*I especially want to give thanks to Kevin and the owner, Aki, for going out of their way on my first experience. They both didnt have to go that extra step, but it meant alot to me. First time bringing my car in here. I usually take my car for basic oil changes to an Oil and Lube place or for other major mile service, to the dealership. The problem there is that the Oil and Lube service location does not check for the items that need checking because they cannot do the work. The problem with the dealership is many times they overcharge or they push recommendations to get extra work. Not saying all are like that but my experience is that the service writers need to generate enough sales to pay for the lease on the shop.I like the fact that this is a family run business. It means more when you are giving business to someone who is related to the establishment. Second, I do appreciate the professional work they did on my car. I recieved a very detailed report and I can tell they know what they are doing by the longitevity of the business. This business would have gone out of business a long time ago if they did not do good work. Especially in todays world of online reviews. Also, I would not say the cost of the service was too high. It was just exactly right for the service, time, and experience my car got. All that costs money, so I have no problem with paying a little more if I have to (though I dont think it would have been any less at a dealership or other shop). I would definitely recommend Tokyo Automotive Repair.

I dealt with Kevin the whole time who was AMAZING! I never felt taken advantage of I felt like he was honest and upfront and my car needed a lot of repairs that I couldn’t afford to do all at once, so I love that they take pictures of everything and Kevin let me know what he recommended getting done asap. My 2008 Mazda Miata had been neglected for years. Kevin and his technician (Manuel) did a full inspection and provided a weblink to photos of everything they inspected and their recommendations. Ended up getting all 4 struts, front/rear sway bars and battery replaced as well as fixing a bad oil leak. Everything was done exactly as they said, on-time and at the quoted price. This place is great. I have been bringing my Hondas/acuras here to get work done that I can’t or don’t want to do myself. It’s always a great and easy experience. The staff is kind and you can tell that they care about their customers. If you get a chance to meet the owner and his wife it’s easy to see why. My experience with Tokyo Automotive provided me with the laziest, most expensive, incorrect and time consuming diagnostics I have ever received from a shop.Was having O2 sensor issues on my 2004 Tundra. Brought it in to Tokyo Automotive and paid $204 for diagnostics and was quoted $2587.78 to replace the entire catalytic converter system, and three weeks without the truck for the parts to get there.This didn’t seem right to me because the entire system was just replaced, lucky for me and unlucky for the shop I am an industrial electrician by trade and one 30 minute YouTube video and 15 minutes under the truck later I found it was a loose wire causing the issue which I was able to fix for no cost at all.Not exactly sure how the shop would’ve handled the misdiagnosis because thankfully I never went through with the work but I find it hard to believe they would’ve been honest with me after leaving me without my truck for 3 weeks and charging me $2500. They likely wouldn’t have said a thing.The entire experience as a whole wasn’t terrible Kevin at the front desk was great, the dogs in the office are adorable and friendly, and they have a great system to update you on work done to the vehicle but they failed at the most important thing in a big way: actual work being done.

I have gotten a considerable amount of work here done on my 1986 Toyota… suspension, steering, and a complete AC conversion to name a few. These guys absolutely knock it out of the park, every time. Their mechanical work is top notch, and customer service personable, even when hunting down and ordering old 80s parts for me! I am always happy to bring my car in and they’re always happy to see me. When repairs took longer than expected, they gave me a very clean loaner, with no charge and no hassle. They always wash and detail the interior of my car upon pick up. Theyve had given me updated posts and progress on the repair and they did a great job! They also give you a 3-year warranty which I think is assuring. First of all scheduling an appointment was easy peasy. I did it online and received a confirmation email later that day. I showed up and was greeted by (I’m so sorry if I get this wrong I’m terrible with names) Kevin! He was very nice and we chatted while I got squared away. As a first time customer there was a piece of paper I had to fill out for contact info. Now my car was majorly neglected (life hit me hard these last few months) and I knew there was going to be a lot that needed to be done. We went with the oil change and inspection. I was given a complimentary ride home which was very nice.As expected there was a lot of stuff that my car was needing. After talking on the phone we decided the best course of action for my immediate budget and they got to work. The inspection/estimate system is all online so you can easily see what they found and approve/deny the various services. They provide helpful explanation of what they do/why they do it which is great for people like me who don’t know anything about cars.It did take a while but I was at home so I didn’t mind (and again we were doing a lot of work). When they finished they sent someone to pick me up and gave me back my car all nice and washed! This was very appreciated as it was again, very neglected lol. I stopped in to sort out the payment and I even got a t-shirt!Overall I felt very welcomed and I never felt rushed or manipulated into getting something. Being a first time customer. I must admit I went in a bit apprehensive despite the great reviews others had previously experienced. What ultimately drew me to this auto shop was the consistency of the reviews saying how thorough, transparent and honest the owner was. After having an overall assessment done on my IS350. They electronically sent me an evaluation and recommendations WITH pictures to validate. No other shops that Ive been to are this transparent....5 stars right there! If after reviewing their suggestions, the process to accept or decline each recommendation was super easy and very efficient. My car was ready before the time they quoted me and my car went in better looking than when I dropped it off thanks to the complimentary car wash.Thank you Tokyo Auto. I highly recommend Tokyo Automotive as a trustworthy, competent and efficient shop.I went in for the first time for an oil change and upon checking my mileage was told, I could go 1,000 more miles before the recommended oil change was required. What shop tells you the truth and once they have you in aren’t ready to add to what you need?Based on my schedule, I opted for the earlier (mileage) oil change and got the full inspection/check (Tokyo Special). They provided me with a detailed report of the status of each part they inspected- which I found valuable.I chose to wait for my car, which was not a problem as they have a comfortable waiting spot with a long table and chairs.If you are looking for a shop to build a honest relationship with for your car and wallet, I would recommend Tokyo Automotive for you.

Tokyo Automotive repair was so generous in offering St. Jude Hospital employees a free oil change service during Covid-19 as a thank you to caregivers. I took my car in for the service and not only did they change my oil, they did an overall check up of my car and and gave me a detailed report of what was good and what needed some attention. My car was ready when I got there, they even gave me a ride to work and the owner is very personable, honest and informative. Very professional repair shop, I highly recommend them.

I had a pre-purchase inspection done here and they saved me from buying a car that would end up costing me 3-5k in repairs, and thats not counting a potential transmission problem and a catylitic converter that was on its way out, for anyone that doesnt know.. catylitic converters are VERY expensive to fix. They are very good with Japanese cars and really know their stuff. Kevin, the service writer, explains everything in detail.They run every test possible on the vehicle and point out possible trouble spots, even sending pics etc to your email/text. A little pricey but if you want it done right and a little cheaper than what the dealer would charge, I would fully recommend.

There are two young caucasians employee there. One of them are ver nice and kind but the other one at reception desk is very mean and rude. I got the email reservation replay but he said they didnt accept it. Its only 9am around. I mistakenly thought a technician might have over tightened some stuff on my car, but they were willing to explain and show me the care they put into their work, even the simple things. I was blown away at how advanced and transparent this service was. Far beyond any mechanic I’ve ever gone to. You know how, if you’re like me and don’t know much about cars, you go to take your car in to a mechanic and then whatever they tell you you just have to take their word for it even if it doesn’t feel all the way right? The system they have at Tokyo gives you real time updates on the work being done on your car with detailed notes that you can understand and you can access anytime through an online link they send you. I’ve seriously never seen anything like it before. But by time Tatsu called me to give me a rundown of everything, I was pretty much already on the same page as them. They are not the cheapest but they are honest, do a good job and stand behind their work. I also find that they always do a little extra too without letting you know which is unheard of these days. I recently went to Tokyo Automotive to have my starter replaced for my car. This place offers superb customer service and they will even take you home while they work on your car. They will also pick you up when your car is ready. The price of repairs may be on the higher end, but the good thing is you are given a 3 year warranty. This was not the case at the last shop I went to to have my starter replaced. I paid 285, but the warranty was for only 6 months and the starter wore out in less than 2 years! Useless. I decided to go through with certain repairs and I was also supplied with a loaner by Tokyo Automotive. Not here I was able to speak with them and get set with a solid estimate that they stuck very close to even after getting into the vehicle. I have been a customer of this facility for the last 30 years when AKI was the only main tech. Excellent and prompt service by him. My this experience is OK due to fact that they have some new tech. I had to replace the Alternator for my Acura RDX so I had my car towed to this place. I wish they had included diagnosis price of $80 when it was known that I needed alternator replaced (I told them before since tow truck mech told me so). Their price for replacing the part is in the ballpark, so no issue with that. Tatsu takes care that his shop is transparent and respectful with recommendations and diagnosis. I’m glad I brought my car in to Tokyo Automotive.Tatsu was not only friendly, but very informative. After speaking with him, I felt very comfortable leaving my car overnight. Things to know before you go:-Under new management, a majority of these positive reviews are from when Aki was in charge of the business, his son Tatsu now runs the place-Their labor rate is higher than Weir Canyon Hondas-They charge a premium on top of MSRP for parts, I mean that very most expensive number you can find for a part, they charge extensively on top of that 50%+ more because they have a right to make a profit on the parts....even though theres profit already built into the MSRP because youre buying it at below MSRP....-Their Diagnosis fee DOES NOT roll into your work, Unlike the dealers. If they say 3 hours of Labor, youre paying for at least 4 because of their diagnosis fee, dealers dont do that. Dealers Hourly rates are cheaper tooHeres the background,My very first 5 star Yelp review was for Tokyo Automotive many, many, years ago. Since then many things have changed. Aki is no longer in charge of the business, his son Tatsu is and boy oh boy have things changed. I recently took my Honda Civic in to have the Airmix Motor replaced they quoted me upwards of $700, having trusted them before and knowing they were amazing before I assumed I was getting a great price on parts and labor. I even asked if the diagnosis time/fee rolled into the repair total, he said YES! Then charged me an additional hour afterwards. Then after paying I started to do more research about it, I even went as far as to take his part number he replaced to 2 dealerships and asked them to quote me on the part and labor to change it out, without either dealership knowing I had already paid for it. Both dealerships quoted me $280/$300.... Having a good relationship with Tokyo Automotive in the past, I called Tatsu and in a nice way explained to him that I thought he over charged me, I got slammed down with We have to pay our employees living wages, we dont have people working for $12 an hour and Well you get a 3 year warranty with us, you wont get that anywhere else (3 year warranty when I paid over double up front.... let that sink in) I really was trying to let Tatsu do the right thing but he just wouldnt and thats too bad. Myself, my brother, my grandmother, two aunts, my dad, church friends have all used and loved Tokyo Motors in the past, weve always been impressed by them, but as long as Tatsus at the helm none of us will be back. I hope he finds his way again and doesnt lose everything his dad built and worked so hard for.Moral of the story, Tatsu doesnt want want to give you the best service for the best price anymore like his father always strived to do, making a deal on a handshake. His father knew that a repeat loyal customer, who brags about you to all their friends and family so when your friends/family have an issue with their car you speak up and say, Hey I Know a great guy! and he gets the business is better way in life. Thats the Tokyo Automotive Aki built. Tatsu wants to try to sell you on a great fancy experience of some sort. I thought the dealership is where you pay for an experience, loaner cars, popcorn, soda etc. Ive never cared for those kinds of places personally. All I knew was Aki was the man for the job, and I trusted him, what he would do for our cars and our family. To each their own, I wish Tatsu the best of luck, his way of running the business is just not a business I would want to do business with.

Tokyo Automotive is unbelievable in what they can do. This recent trip was our Dodge Van which just refused to start. They specialize in Japanese cars but we dont trust anybody else with our cars even the Dodge dealership.We also had two 1979 Datsun 280zx. One is a cream puff with under 43,000 miles. The other one was a wreck at 350,000 miles. Parts are really hard to get as it is a unique year. Tokyo Automotive manages to either find the part or create one. Wonderful master mechanics.They are great folks, Even their dog is great.

I brought a Subaru in for a pre purchase inspection and ended up in an interesting chat about business philosophy with Katsu, the owner of this family business. In short, while I did not have any work done, I would definitely bring my car in. Katsu has a mature sense of self and of business, says he is not the cheapest by any means but always strives to do outstanding work with only the best quality parts, and offers a 3 year warranty of his work to back it up. So obviously he is not for everybody, but if you do care about knowledgable mechanics and a high level of repair quality and realize you will pay for it, I recommend you give them a try and see if they are a fit for you. I believe they specialize in Japanese makes only.

It is hard to find a reliable auto repair shop that not only does the regular maintenance but also looks at how the car is running to address possible future problems. Had a slow leak in my tire and stopped by Tokyo Automotive to get it patched. Was greeted by Tatsu and he took care of it. Happy to hear it’s a long time family business that specializes in Japanese cars (Lexus, Toyota, etc). Impressed that he purchased a used Toyota Prius for own personal vehicle with over 100k Miles for him to learn how to fix them. Excellent customer service and very knowledgeable about cars. Im writing this review to warn people and not suffer the same experience I had. Ive put my trust and brought my 2012 Prius for diagnosis. Tatsu suggested almost $1700 worth of repairs to fix injectors and replace the fuel pump. Then they told me the car was ready for pickup but the same rattling noise was still happening in the morning. I told them they need to find out for sure because thats the same issue why I brought the car to them. Tatsu swapped my injectors with his dads older Prius to eliminate the injector issue for sure but kept it on his dads car and never put it back to my car. He eventually found out the issue and according to him, my Prius will require head gasket job which could range from $3K to $6k or even more exaggerating on his assessment. He could have done this from the get go and I would have gladly paid for the diagnosis fee and not have approve the $1700 repair. It was a cooling system pressure test. I decided to pick up the car in disgust as I dont see value on paying more for repairs beyond the actual value of the car. He should have diagnosed the car fully and presented all issues to me so I can make an informed decision. But the worst part of the whole experience was the opportunistic behavior from Tatsu on taking advantage of someone elses misfortune. He also made it sound like hes doing me a favor and described that his dad could use another car and mine had a better interior than his dads current Prius. He said he would gladly take my pink slip and give me $200 or $300 for a 2012 Prius. I don’t know how these people stay in business with the way they treated me. Not sure why Tatsu couldnt have done the cooling system pressure test in addition to even suggesting injectors and fuel pump and dropping the gas tank job. When he asked for my pink slip, it just hit me with a ton brick that Im dealing with an opportunistic troll.

I recently purchased a 2018 Toyota Corolla to replace my beloved 2004 Toyota Camry LE V6, which was declared a Total Loss after an accident 2 weeks ago. The replacement 2018 Toyota Corolla was purchased from Miller Toyota in Anaheim and has about 33,000 miles on it. I took it the Tokyo Automotive Repair to have an Inspection to confirm that the vehicle is in good shape. They gave ti a clean bill of health. So, now I am confidently pursuing the remaining tasks that come w a car purchase: inform my Auto Insurance Company, finalize the Auto Loan, et. al. In 3 to 6 months, I will check in at Tokyo Auto for oil change and possible other Preventive Maintenance they recommend

This is my yelp review, just reposted on google:After thinking about what happened for a very long time, i decided to go forward with writing my review. I stumbled across this repair shop on google, and through the sheer amount of reviews i thought the place seemed trust worthy.I had a slow oil leak in my car. After explaining the problem, i scheduled an appointment and got a fluid diagnosis and vehicle inspection at the cost of $160. Very steep price. They didnt take anything apart, and they didnt do anything special to find the leak (fluid indicators like i was promised on the phone.) I wanted a professional opinion, and wanted to get it professionally fixed cause money is tight nowadays.They have a nice system that basically allows real time responses and results, which you can easily add or deny services. Once my diagnosis got done, i was slapped with a recommendation for timing chain service for 2 grand. I was extremely worried cause of my very little experience with this kind of problem, so i took my car out of their and went to my gf’s brother for inspection. Basically, he power washed all the oil off (tokyo auto service didnt even bother washing it off) and i drove the car to see where the oil was leaking. I check again after a couple days of driving and wallah, my oil plug at the bottom is the ONLY place with oil leaking. It explains why it leaks slow, and why it always drains really slow. I was appalled, angry and disheartened that this mechanic shop with such great reviews can be so deceptive, greedy and manipulative.The only response to the recommended service was “ohhh your car eventually will need it changed, and its better to do it now then later.” the red flag was that they wanted to change my water pump, etc but none of that needed to be replaced. I literally came in for that small leak, only to realize the true nature of their business and how they handle things. If you are looking for a recommendation on where to get your car fix, i would be extremely careful here, especially if you are on a budget. I love the story of your business, but what you did to me was not right.
