Amazing experience. My fiancé and i became members. My favorite wine was liquid love my fiancés favorite was dream weaver and they have a nice little seating area outside. The only downside is they dont have actual food, only little cheese snack boxes with crackers.

First time at Tobin James and our first stop in Paso. We had a wonderful experience and Andrew made it even more enjoyable! The wines are great, the atmosphere is welcoming, and every staff member was awesome! They truly lived up to their great reviews. I would totally recommend going here if you want good wine and a warm and inviting experience! I was having such a great time I forgot to take any photos of the wines. Also, as a side note- the little birdie wine topper is a must! It chirps when you pour 🐦

We didn’t make an appointment and just last minute decided to stop by and buy wine.We came at 5pmish (they closed at 6) and they graciously let us in!We were able to sample 3 before buying their moscato! It was sooo good :0) And the lady was very friendly but I unfortunately forgot her name.Their main room is huge and the bathroom was really clean!I would come back here with an appointment.

A must visit on your wine tasting trip! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing wines across the board. While the trend in Paso seems to be to raise tasting fees, increased bottle prices and higher bottle limits to wave tasting fees, TJ has kept their prices on the ground. If you want a really great atmosphere and wines that are very reasonable, this is the place to visit!

9/18/22 We visited here when we vacationed in the central coast. It hasnt changed since our last visit in May. No masks required. They do reservation for busy weekends and holidays. Very popular winery. The receptionist up front was very nice. We didnt have a reservation but she let us in. Luckily it wasnt busy. The pourer selected samples of what I would like. He was great. The charming and wonderful ladies who rang up the sale were very helpful. Nice surprise was the discount for buying 6 bottles. This is our favorite place to visit. There is a grassy doggie area for the furry travelers.We stopped here on the way to the coast and back. Lots of free parking with handicap access. Tall shady trees with patio seating. Very friendly and extremely helpful hostesses. They fill in the list of the wines you want to sample and or puchase at the entrance. I came here to purchase specific wines that luckily were available. You take the list to the cashier inside. They get the wines from the back and ring up the sales. They accept credit cards. My last visit here was 10 years ago. The staff are as helpful and friendly as ever. The interior is the same western decor. Their wines are world renowned. This is our favorite winery in Paso Robles. We will return.

Tobin James winery is a Gem in Paso Robles. We tried varieties of Reserve and Red wines. All tasted very distinct and loved them all. A big shout out to Donna, she took great care of us. Vibe of the place makes it extraordinary. Specially loved the bar table decor. Would highly recommend this winery in central coast.

Stop by on your way to and from Palo Robles. It’s a big place with country of staff outside seating and picnic area. The manager is very attentive, and the wines are excellent. $20 tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle.

I recently visited Tobin James Winery, excited to use a wine passport I earned after completing a marathon. This passport was supposed to grant me a complimentary visit, and Tobin James was explicitly listed as a participating winery. Unfortunately, they did not uphold their end of the agreement. Despite my attempts to resolve the issue, pointing out that other wineries had accepted the passport without question the same day, the staff simply dismissed its validity.Despite this disappointment, there were some highlights to my visit. A few of the wines were delightful, and one server was particularly helpful, enriching my experience with his deep knowledge of their wines. His passion for sharing and educating was a bright spot in an otherwise frustrating experience.However, the situation soured again when I tried to leave. I hoped for some understanding or a solution regarding the passport issue, but instead, I met with dismissiveness from the staff. This lack of support and customer service left me feeling overlooked and undervalued.While I enjoyed the wines, my visit was overshadowed by the winerys failure to honor their commitment and their poor handling of the situation.

We stopped by TJ today for the first time, and enjoyed a tasting with Crystal who was very friendly and informative! She was a large part in our decision to join the wine club. My wife and I sampled over a dozen wines. We had a great experience and left with a few souvenirs. We are looking forward to our first 8 bottle shipment in April, but we will probably be back before then.

The location is convenient and good, but there is no winery vibe. I missed the attention of the staff. If you dont ask anything, you wont hear anything. It seems to me that more work needs to be done to prepare the customer for the purchase. Today there are a lot of offers, so it is important not just to give a try for money

Loved this place! Visited during Zoo to You fundraiser, met a really interesting regular and learned a bit more about the area. The charity was in high swing when we arrived so the tasting room staff were busy, but still helpful and generous. The wines were excellent, we bought a couple of bottles.

Gaetano basically MADE our experience on a Monday amazing. Not only was he knowledgeable about the wines and gave us a fabulous tour of all the wines… he was also extremely personable and kid friendly and it was so relaxing being there with our toddler who was of course a bit distractable. Guetano made the whole experience feel like we were tasting with a favorite cousin- and we really enjoyed a number of wines, which were extremely well priced! Fun environment as well- the stone work outside was awesome and the western theme inside was fun!

On a recent trip to Paso Robles, specifically for wine tasting, Tobin James was my first stop. This place was not exactly what I had envisaged when I set out on my great wine tasting experience. This place seems more like a road side stop than a place for some picturesque wine tasting (a dive bar version of wine tasting). Never been to a winery selling Tommy bahama Hawaiian shirts, but hey when buzzed who knows what people will buy.The people working here were really nice and walk ins were welcome. I soon learnt reservations were required everywhere else. These wines were just not for me, in fact the worst I tasted on my trip but that its just my palate I guess. Prices were very reasonable. If you purchase a bottle it cancels out the cost of a tasting. I ended buying a bottle of the 2016 Lagrein. I opened my bottle last night and I was able to revisit the winery from home and once again I was disappointed. My bottle had a ton a sediment (see picture) the best way to describe this wine - it seemed like a grape and wine smoothie....imagine drip coffee where the filter failed. Terrible wine, terrible venue, great employees.

First time here was a year ago: it was blazing hot and this place seemed fun and relaxed: great wine without pretense. Fast forward to this weekend: were staying at the Tobin James guest house (shhh, an amazing deal) and have been to several other area wineries. Confirmed my impression from last year: fun people, great wine and a friendly atmosphere you cant just manufacture.

Wonderful array of very good wines. The higher priced Blue Moon reserve wines are spectacular and worth the extra money. They have 3 rooms on site which can be paid for through your wine purchases. And best of all are the staff.

Just finished my first wine tasting experience at Tobin James… AMAZING atmosphere. I absolutely LOVED Veronica, and her recommendations were spot on. You don’t always find a place that has great wine AND great people. If you haven’t checked them out, I HIGHLY recommend making this a top place to stop if you’re coming to Paso Robles. Added bonus is they are visibly supportive of our nation’s military. Will definitely be back!

They literally wrote not yet as members on our tasting sheet! 😂My friend and I had a reservation and were admittedly running behind, but were rudely and abruptly told by the host that theyd see what we could get through and then we may have to go and not finish. There was zero hospitality from the start. That should have been our first red flag. The inside of the tasting room is like a tacky saloon, and the wines were lackluster, at best. The guy pouring the wines had nothing to say about them, and not much to say at all. He did ask where were from...kudos. But then proceeded to tell me Im pretty tan for where Im from. Im not white. 🙄We went to pay for our tastings and leave at what was like a cashiers station. The woman told us we must be flying and thats why we werent buying anything. Because people who fly normally cant figure out how to get our wines home.I dont know how many ways you can insult your guests. I definitely dont recommend this winery. Hard pass.

Tobin James is one of me favorite wineries. There Reseve Chardonnay is fantastic. Cant leave here without a case everytime. There are so many wonderful tasting wines. The staff is awesome, kind, helpful, nice and so much fun to do tastings with. Staying on the property is awesome. The room are fantastic. Very clean. Well equipped it all your needs. A must-see for anyone interested in Paso wines. Easy access from the highway. Lovely indoor/outdoor tasting area with a cowboy saloon motif. The wines are not only good, but fairly priced. They have an assortment of affordable table wines, which I thought were delicious. Then they have a selection of fine wines to please gourmands, and while the prices are a bit higher, they are not extreme. Tasting is FREE--something you dont see much in Paso--but they are sure youll want to purchase a bottle or two (or twelve). Dont pass this one by.

This place is super cute. OK, so, this was my second time here and I loved it. Its right off the freeway, the vibe is chill and the employees are personable and kind. My partner is a member so tasting was free (non event day) and we had such a nice time. I loved their clothing and merchandise so much that I got my first Tobin shirt. The material is great quality and the stitching design on it, SWEET!They also have rooms for members so you can stay on site. I cant wait to plan a little getaway there.I recommend this place to anyone.

Last time we tasted at Tobin James was about a decade ago… it was a memorable experience, if for no other reason that it was more low-key and not pretentious like many wineries. More of a fun, casual vibe with decent bang-for-the-buck wines.So we decided to stop again on the way down to San Diego, and were pleased to see that things are basically the same (but more tasting bars now, and busier.) We don’t love all of the wines, but we do like most of them, and they have a huge variety (including some varietals that are harder to find, like tannat, barbera, lagrein, etc)The tasting policy is pretty interesting, too: they give you one hour to taste whatever you want. 😮 We wanted to be responsible, but also wanted to try so many different things, so we asked for small pours and chose to share them between the two of us. We also made use of the dump bucket (except for the ones we really liked!) This allowed us to try many (many) different things, and we enjoyed them enough that we actually joined their club and walked away with a case of wine.

Very good experience. I started with a women and things went well with her, including some nice chit-chat. Then a man took over as the women’s day ended. He also was good … in fact, he was great. He broke out the dump bucket and spit cup (so I could swish around, but not swallow). This enabled me to taste more … and taste more I did! He allowed me to go far beyond their standard tasting menu. I tasted everything I wanted to try, which was probably 8 or 9 wines! But because I only did a sip or two plus a swish and spit, it wasn’t too much alcohol. Because the tasting was tailored to my likings, pretty much everything I tried was good. I bought two bottles and their tasting fee was waived. He also made some recommendations for other wineries I might consider. Very pleased overall. Not sure if I lucked out, but if that is the norm, I highly recommend.

Definitely best wine and wine tasting experience in the Paso Robles area. Always a beyond friendly staff to serve you! One hour tasting of the best wines in the area. Ione was our wine tasting professional last time we were there. She spend a hour with us explaining the wines and adding so much charm to our experience. Lots of gifts and some packaged food available for sale. We are also wine club members and what a bang for the buck! Amazing wines and always a gift included. I would rate 10 stars if possible! Stopped in spur of the moment and they were friendly and willing to make space for us. Gal who poured for us was knowledgeable and super pleasant. She did a great job. Large selection of wines and we tasted a variety of whites, reds & dessert wines. Usually do not like dessert wines but tried theirs and these were not too sweet and had great flavor profiles. Was delighted to try a Riesling, which is hard to find these days.We ended up taking home 6 bottles. All reasonably priced as well.

Just had a great tasting at Tobin James with a fantastic pourexpert by the name of Char. This was our second visit to this winery and we will keep coming back. Great vino, knowledgeable friend staff, awesome ambience, fun and delicious. Char went over the top to make us feel welcome and to share her many years of experience. She has been at this winery 14 Yeats that alone tells the story. If you are in Paso Robles this is a must do winery!!! Thanks Char, you were amazing!!

There’s a reason Tobin James is so popular, both as a tasting experience and their wine club. They’re reasonable, very fun people with extremely tasty wine. It was even busy on a Tuesday early afternoon in April, so be sure to make a reservation! We took home some of the best Chardonnay I’ve had, which I didn’t expect to try when I came to Paso. This was my favorite tasting I did on this trip (out of five), hands down.

I really wanted to love this place, in fact at first we wanted to stay for two days. It is that beautiful. Our plan was to do a photo shoot on the second day, as there are so many unique buildings, antique fixtures, and just overall lovely scenery. The ladies who checked us in were so friendly too. As Harvest Host members it is requested that we spend $20 at a property, and we always spend much more than that. This particular property, however required that we spend $20 per person. The wines were mediocre, which I could have lived with. What turned us sour on our stay was the bartender. I literally felt as though I was a waste of his time. I tried to communicate with him, but all I ever got in return was, which one do you want to try There was no verbal communication of what the wines were like, what they paired well with, or upsell of any sort. At one point the bar tender left us to talk to a fellow employee. I witnessed him whisper to her as he pointed at me and my husband. I could go on but I think you get the picture. We wasted no time leaving.

This time we spent the night in our RV using Harvest Host, because of the rain they were very accommodating and set us up on the asphalt. Weve been tasting here for at least 15 years.

Great personal tasting. They have a lot of wines to choose from for the tasting, within a one hour window. The staff made us feel very welcome was very helpful introducing their wines. They are offering reasonably priced entry level wines and wonderful reserves at a higher price range. Best to make a reservation over the phone to ensure to get a tasting spot.

Its perhaps not a peaceful drink overlooking a vine filled panorama but was still very good! She was super knowledgeable.The tastings were quickly flowing and quite generous. Probably had 12-15 samples. Also have sparkling grape juice for designated drivers.The tasting was free and there was no pressure to buy. We did buy a couple of bottles. Prices were also reasonable.

My mom and I went in kind of early on a Friday. Of course everyone was awesome when they greeted us and let us go in to taste. I have to give a huge rave review to our server, Terry. Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable and taught us so many things about their wines, but she was one of the kindest most genuine people Ive ever met. It was kind of a rough weekend and me and my mom were on our way to the beach for a day trip, she laughed with us and cried with us. She really made our experience one of a kind & showed us a new love for wines I used to think I hated. This is the only winery we stopped at on our way to Pismo. Theyre always awesome, and they offer military discounts.

When they ship out a 5-year old wine it is ready to open, decant (to let it breathe) and serve. No other winery does this and so for others we buy wine now that we plan to drink four years later.

I have seldom seen a business that understands that if your customers are 100% happy, they will be loyal customers for life.We had the pleasure of visiting Paso Robles again last weekend and stayed at the guesthouse. The rooms are set up with all that you need to be comfortable for your stay, but even then, sometimes things happen unexpectedly and something may not be perfect. Rest assured, there is no gamble in staying at Tobin James; everyone there will bend over backwards to ensure that you have the best possible stay during your time there. Really nice, knowledgeable and friendly servers. Dog friendly but dogs must remain outside where they can greet comers and goers. Tasting is complimentary. I particularly liked the Sangiovese and the Reserve 2013 Grenache.

This place is yielding phenomenal fruit. Grown in limestone with old vines making that perfect blend of old world mineraly taste with bright califonia fruit to make it pop. There once in a blue moon Reserve can be put against the best Napa, French or Italian wines. Thank you for an amazing experience.

I first visited in the 90s and knew that I would return. Finally, my wife and I did return in June of this year (2016) and my high expectations were exceeded. The Zinfandels are nothing short of superb and my old time favorite, Petit Sirah was, well, words cannot do it justice. If you enjoy bold, spicy reds, Tobin James 2013s fit the bill. Dont miss this one if you are in Paso.

Its a great place for a party..that being said wine is mediocre at best. Hats off to them for turning this place into a marketing machine. Stay away from this place on the weekend unless you want to flash back to an overcrowded dorm room with kids drinking TJ Swain or MD 20-20.
