Dr. Ryan OLeary took care of my knee and Thornton hospital took care of me the following three days.I cant imagine what it would have been like at the new hospital.Gladys, Marj, Jerry, Mike, Crystal, and many many more took great care of me.The food was pretty good especially for hospital food.My only complaint, and four stars; my room is right next to the nurses station and they love to make a lot of noise, especially in the middle of the night when youre trying to sleep.

Beautiful hospital and my father is getting great care. Unfortunately, some of the nurses/staff should have some training on professionalism. My father almost died a few days ago so I’ve been on edge. When I received a concerning text from him, I called the nurses station to see if he was receiving the help he needed. They assured me that a nurse was with him at that moment. I told them I was very relieved and thank you for helping him. Well, the person forgot to hang up the phone and I could hear her talking unkindly about me. To say the least, this is very upsetting. As someone who was just looking out for the well being of a loved one and to be treated so poorly for caring is disheartening. Other than this experience staff have been nice, but now I wonder what they are saying behind our backs when they think we aren’t listening.

The Thornton Pavilion left me speechless and that is hard to do. I was dropped off and Andre the Thornton host, immediately came and asked if he could help. Within a few seconds he had me looked up on his computer by phone number and knew exactly who I was and exactly where, what, why and when I was supposed to be! He quickly guided me to Daisy who escorted me right to the door of the specialty clinic for my appointment I was just overwhelmed by everything that was there at Thornton Pavilion! She was very kind and made me feel relaxed and at ease! (Thank you both) I suffer from social anxiety disorder and if you two had not been there for me today then the procedure that I came all the way from El Cajon to have a specialist in neurology run a scan of my brain waves to try and figure out why I am not being able to see as well as I used too. In fact I checked in at the cardiac neurology and epilepsy center I would have never found this on my own and my fear of new people places and things would have stopped me from getting the help I have been needing for at least two years! yes I was 25 minutes early and I was told I listened well and had done research on the VEP test that was given but in record time I was done 5 minutes after my appointment kudos to everyone that helped to develop design contribute and build the Thornton Pavilion keep up the good work. Also to everyone who took good care of Paul Wagner today from Don, the tech that administered the test, the shuttle drivers who drove me back and forth from Shiley to Thornton Pavilion all I can say is that words alone are not enough to say just how Thankful and grateful that I am for everything that you all have and are doing to help me figure out what exactly is going on with my vision, health and all my life issues!

First class hospital and staff. They have done something right here. The culture that permeates throughout every aspect of this hospital I can only categorize as compassionate, kind, and respectful. It is their culture and I know this because this attitude is displayed in the cafeteria, in the nursing staff, CNA staff, the doctors, the technicians and the individuals who come to clean the rooms. The doctors truly listen and care. The nurses are kind and considerate. An example of that is the 2 West nurses who come in quietly at night, don’t turn on lights (use their phones for light as they don’t want to wake you up). The food service staff are like professional wait staff at a nice restaurant. We were never felt rushed to leave the hospital. They are trying to be so thorough and exercising all due diligence to find answers for the medical issues we are dealing with. No one came to ask us for a credit card or to sign a bazillion papers. This is the Four Seasons of hospitals. Good people work here. I feel so blessed and fortunate to have my husband receiving care here. I am fully confident in the teams that are working on his case that they will find answers. I am also confident that they will not leave me to fend on my own when we are discharged. I have received reassurance and compassion from day one. Top notch staff!

Recently I fell at an airport upstate NY..I didnt realize at the time I had broken my hip and my elbow. I flew cross country, had a connecting flight (thank God for Delta, their wheelchairs and staff). When I landed here in San Diego straight to the ER I went. The staff and the care that I was given was amazing. From Stephanie (nurse in ER..area..admitted area awaiting surgery) not sure exactly what the area was called. She took care of me.. great care of me. I can not Thank her enough, up until time for surgery. Then I was blessed to have Dr. Ball and his staff do a total hip replacement. When I was transferred to the ward, again such great care was given to me. From start to finish Great Great care. Just goes to show you even in the darkest and most painful times, there is a silver lining. Thank you ALL.I cant leave out Dr. Middleton my rheumatologist, he is the BEST!

Perfect example of a corporate hospital country club. Beautiful, clean, valet parking and facilities. You will pay to park here as a patient. Do not bring your children, they are a liability. Your a mother who needs an MRI done. Dont bring your kids, oh we wont tell you that on the phone. This is what you are told at the door. I feel like I need a membership to be here and a larger bank account. Never coming back if I can help it.

I was a patient in the Thornton Hospital in 2012 for 11 days. My surgery took 8 1/2 hours so it was pretty serious. My nursing care was amazing. I had the nicest folks taking care of me. I have been cancer free now for 7 years. I recommend Thornton Hospital to anyone considering it.

I have to say this hospital is awesome. The doctors and nurses and the rest of the staff were so polite and very helpful. I have never had this kind of caring and general respect from any other hospital. I would never go anywhere else. Let me finish by thanking the cafeteria staff..The little girl who is the cashier there on the evening of 9/22/16 has such a big heart and I want to thank her and her boss for their especially rare act of kindness. They will know what I mean. I wont let it go unnoticed. They deserve a big Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This in my opinion, they used to be one of the best hospitals, until my recent 2 visits.They will treat your symptoms that you came in for but if have a symptom or symptoms that accumulated while being admitted, they will send you home and say it’s because you’re in a hospital that you don’t feel well. I feel like there are a couple of doctors who shall not be named, but they do the least care plan possible. Then ask how you feel but they really do not listen or care because they already have made up their mind, your end result. Honestly I feel like the staff needs to retrain and treat everyone as equals. I came in for anemia, was given blood transfusions (which I reacted to) but still continued on, to fix the anemia. Since I have been here, I have started vomiting, had diarrhea & my sense of smell/taste has pretty much disappeared. I have been . I was disregarded and was told that my anemia was fixed and the other stuff was I was experiencing will go away when I go home, eat my own food & lie in my own bed. What happened to doctors honoring their oath?

The staff that cares! What an amazing experience. It started with the prompt check in, than we had a phenomenal NR Stephanie followed by Dr. Shishlov that kept us informed of all aspects of my husbands symptoms, got transferred to a very clean room and again the staff has been just so caring. We have the same motto here at FedEx I will make every FedEx experience outstanding. Thornton superseded my expectations.

Jenn Sundt was a great nurse. She was quick, attentive and me and my girlfriend could tell she cared. She was a true example of what a nurse should be. After her I had a older ex navy nurse who was great as well. Then I had a trainee nurse and a trainer shadowing her. Thats where I should have spoken up and asked for a different nurse. Coming out of a cervical neck fusion to my C3 and C4 I wasnt feeling too great but the lack of care, attitude, and uncomfortable feeling I had from these last two taI wanted to be discharged and back in the comfort of my own bed. This was less than 24 hours after my surgery. Needless to say I did and I should not have because I was back in the hospital the next day. Because I do not want to hurt these nurses career I wont say their names but a piece of advice. If you are not getting the care you feel you need, and youre being a good patient. Speak up. I spoke up to my dr after I was already gone and he must have said something because i got a call from the manager nurse apologizing and spoke with me about my experience and through our conversation I could tell if I had spoke up while still bed ridden in the hospital something would have been done to help make me more comfortable by changing nurses or working something out. This is why I give them 4 stars because I feel it has great potential and it is a great hospital. I trust them. I trust the doctors and their education and experience

Just received this reply, automated, the “Experience Specialist”, perfect. I have talked with over 4 different people is this office and not one of them know what there doing, that’s the problem with outsourcing. My whole experience with this place had been miserable. In fact, they threw their own doctors under the bus by suggesting I report them to the State as a remedy.While visiting family in San Diego I came down with a painful sinus infection. Over my 60 years I’ve had a few of these, so I went to an UCSD Health urgent care seeking antibiotic or sinus specific treatment. The Dr. sent me to the emergency room at USCD Hospital for blood tests because as they could do a quick turnaround (I should have questioned and stopped everything then – but I am a patient, what do I know) — it was just for the blood, no emergency and there was supposed to be no emergency charge according to the Urgent Care DR. . At the ER they took my blood, blood pressure and did an EKG (which came out clean but why take it?). Long story short (not), they then said I needed a CT scan — I only agreed because they said it was medically necessary. I would not have consented to anymore work or time, especially an expensive scan. unless the experts said it was necessary. After that a whole parade of doctors came through to tell me, and my family, that I had a continuing brain bleed (note that at no time did I report or had I been involved in any accident, fall or event involving my head). We panicked and thought my last day alive could be that day. At that point they said I needed to stay and have an MRI to confirm the progress of the brain bleed. I sat in the ER for 6 hours, could not eat or drink, in case they needed to operate. After the MRI, at 10pm, I was taken to the $11,000/day Neurological Intensive Care unit even though the MRI showed at that hour that there was no brain bleed and never was (I was not informed about the MRI results until the next morning). The only food I had was brought in by family. At 8 am the next day I was told the original diagnosis of a brain bleed was wrong. The panic they caused me and my family, not eating for a day, listening to Code Blues all night on the ICU was for nothing. They never addressed or treated my sinus pain before or after discharge but they had the gall to charge $30,000 for the drama they alone created. United Health, my insurer initially rejected their claims as being mistakes and medically unnecessary. UCSD Health kept poking at United Health to pay (which would then trigger my deductible and co pay) and amazingly, months later, they did….not on the brain hemorrhage charge but on diagnosis codes including “Dry Eye Syndrome” and “Headache” (neither of which I was treated for). Now I am fighting the deductible and co pay. UCSD Health refuses to admit they caused the charges and a lot of emotional stress and they never apologized for what they did to me and my family. It’s all about the money – not your or my health or wellbeing — but the money. Be very, very cautious when using UCSD Health, other social media posts make it clear they, like so many other health organizations care most about the $$$$.

Thornton hospital is more of a specialist staffed 5 star hotel than it is a hospital. I could not imagine a better hospital experience than the one I had at Thornton, including the fact that my wife was able to sleep 3 nights in my private room while I was recovering. The best hospital I have ever been in! It was most like a hotel. Everyone was amazing to me. Nurse Natasha was awesome. I had my hip replacement with Dr. Ball. He is the best, really the best. So happy with my doctor and hospital.

Sat on a freezing concrete bench outside the ER for 2 hours today to get my painful ear infection taken care of. Saw two other people in the whole time I was there. They didnt want me inside because they saw my seasonal allergy symptoms and thought I had the flu (even though they have my medical record of allergies and know I had a flu shot). I never got seen. Left after two hours and went to another facility. Screw UCSD health care- I am going to Kaiser after the first of the year. They dont care about people at all here.

My son is extremely ill with serious infections due to a botched knee replacement at Tri City Hospital.Two years of pain and multiple hospitalizations. Finally after getting to UCSD I can sleep at night knowing whatever the outcome, he is getting the best healthcare from every single department. The ER docs are wonderful, the nurses fantastic, the multiple doctors all kind, responsive and know all the latest in their specialty.They saved his life more than once. All you complainers about the parking have to be kidding me! I would walk miles for the type os care he is being given.

Best hospital I have been in-was in for my husbands hip replacement surgery and the staff at the hospital was UNBELIEVABLE and AMAZING. Would highly recommend this hospital to anyone!!! Also, Dr. Ball is the best surgeon in his field, EVER. You need a hip, knee etc. replacement, hes the one that everyone should want to go to. The BEST of the BEST!!

This hospital has the worst signage in the entire medical complex, which has now become a small city over the years. All the other buildings have large address numbers on the building faces. Thornton hospital, the name of which appears no where on road signage, has tiny vinyl letters on the windows at the ground level entrance. That is the only place 9300 Campus Point Dr. appears. All of my wifes paperwork said Thorton Hospital. But all the signage on the building says Jacobs Medical Center. Very aggravating and stressful, especially with the insane amount of construction going on. Give yourself an extra half hour if you have an appointment.

My sister is in this hospital and the nurses have been unresponsive, rude and unwelcoming. It wasnt until she Meet with the charge nurse and told her the issues shes been having they started doing better. It ya dont like your job then you dont have a passion for the career you chose.

First of all, Id like to start off by saying the ambiance of the hospital is very inviting.I felt like I was walking into a resort hotel when I first walked in there. The architecture of thebuildings is obviously very detailed and well designed.However, I cant shake the feelings of animosity of a shoddy parking structure, where I park in a space that is not visibly violating any parking rules, and come to find out I apparently need an A or B permit (stated on my citation). I received a citation for $65.00 that I dont think is deserved. The parking at the hospital is ambiguous at best. I felt violated and most of all prevaricated by their parking system, just to extort money out of me.The funny thing is Im just a visitor there coming to see my sick mother. I would give it a higher rating if they ever do something about the parking.

My husband & I have had all our care through USCD for over 20 years that has included multiple surgeries for each of us & great ongoing care by our great Primary Care Physicians. Our only complaints after exposure to scores of docs & nurses over the years are the following:-Dr. Ahadian was very uncaring, would not listen while being physically rough & shouldnt be practicing @ UCSD.-Dr. Tony Lopez was borderline creepy during one visit & oddly over reactive on 3 occasions.-Patient Parking is POOR, situated way too far away for sick people to deal with! Since Jacobs & KOP were built, patients have to walk far too long a distance! There are acres of beautiful looking but POORLY designed open wasted spaces that patients must trudge & trek around & through to try to get into their Drs office. These open areas outside KOP should be patient only parking structures and NOT empty shadeless concrete with empty unused benches.The care given is good once you manage to get into an office or manage to find your way all that long, long distance to reach Jacobs behind Thornton, but it leaves you wondering about patient priorities & who hired the architects & then who & why they approved those far flung renderings in the name of patient care. An 10 story parking structure would go a long way to show us you care about us as patients & as customers.

I Was admitted for a gallstone in my common duct on Tuesday night. Spent Tuesday and Wednesday in the ER because they had no beds available. Originally they were going to do immediate surgery to remove the stone, but because they had inadequate resources the surgery was not performed. They first tried to have me agree to transfer to UCSD Hillcrest because there were no beds and when I declined they then said that the gallstone probably had passed and released me with a prescription for oxycodone and told me to follow up in a couple of weeks with their surgical team. The day after I was released, I had a severe gallbladder attack. I went to Scripps Green Urgent Care and was admitted immediately to Scripps Green Hospital where I had my gallbladder removed and had surgery to remove the stone from my common duct that UCSD had said probably had passed.Also I had two different nurses at UCSD treat me that were coughing and sneezing with apparent colds. Instead of staying home sick they were treating patients.

From the doctors, nurses, anyone who worked there knew what they were doing and also very happy to be working there, we came from a different state and have never been in a place like the Thorton Hospital I would highly recommend this place to anyone in need of medical care and I have. It has been over a decade since I searching for the best embolism treatment. My Pulmonologist referred me to Doctor Richard Channick.At the time Dr. Channick worked at Thorton Hospital.It was during this dark time in my life that Dr. Channick, numerous medical specialists and medical staff at Thorton Hospital gave me hope.I will always be grateful for the healthcare I received from Thorton Hospital, especially Dr. Channick.I will never forget waking up from surgery to see doctor Channick sitting in my hospital rooms chair.I was surprised and stunned to see Dr. Channick sitting in my room. I quickly told Dr. Channick that I had abdominal surgery and not pulmonary issues.Dr. Channick then grinned at me and said, he knew I had abdominal surgery.I looked at Dr. Channick oddly and asked why he was in my room?Dr. Channick replied because you are my patient.I smiled and thanked him.I felt so alone, scare and depressed in the hospital. Seeing Dr. Channick in my room bought me a sense of security and peace.I will never forget Dr. Channicks act of kindness.Mass General is now fortunate to have Dr. Channick on their team.I can easily give Thornton Hospital a five star rating.I have read comments that Thortons Hospital parking could be improved. While, easy parking is nice but I care more about the quality of their medical care.

Awful, Just plain & Simple Awful. What amazed me the most, is this Hospital is a Teaching Hospital??? There ER Looks Elegant, Suffocated and A place that will cater to anyone one whom needs help. Ya Right, Looks can be extremely deceiving!!! Avoid This Hospital in Anyway possible. There security force is greater than the security that our own president has. Scary! This Hospital caters only to La Jollas Wealth and Elite Families. UCSD Hillcrest Is a Plus, Not only is it the main Hospital and Level 1 Trauma center & Emergency Room. The Doctors, Nurses & Staff actually care about the patients and do there jobs. Jacobs Hospital La Jolla is intended to keep San Diegos Rich Alive & Healthy; Period. Be Aware...

THIEFS!!! Decided to go here after reading great reviews on UCSD. First I called to set up an appointment, was told my insurance was covered. Went to visit several times and even went to another branch of UCSD to see a primary doctor. They all told me I was covered also. Wasnt until the bills started coming that I discovered I was not being covered. I am now paying out-of-network fees because UCSD failed to inform me that I wasnt being covered. Thanks a bunch!Very disappointed in this system.

The parking lots are not very well marked. In the parking structure they have signs on only about 25% of the spots. I do not read braille. Service is good. Care is good. Cleanliness of rooms is not good.
