I am so fortunate to have found Dr. Christian for cataract surgery. His passion for perfection in what he does, precision and skill inspired the utmost confidence. I was surprised to hear that the natural lens in our eyes goes bad in all of us…a process called “presbyopia” or “dysfunctional lens syndrome”. This deterioration begins in our 40’s, hence the need for those frustrating reading glasses or bifocals, and just progressively gets worse year by year. I was shocked to find out that I didn’t have to continue down this incredibly aggravating path of worsening reading vision.Dr. Christian at The Vanguard Eye Institute literally cured all of my vision issues with a new procedure called a Refractive Lens Exchange. In essence, he used a very sophisticated laser (NOT LASIK) to replace my natural lens that was going bad (as it does in ALL of us). The new lens implant (called an extended depth of focus lens) combined with Dr. Christian’s incredible surgical skills dialed in my distance, intermediate, AND my up-close vision! The results last forever and I’ll never develop a cataract, thus I’ll never need cataract surgery later on in life. Thank you Dr Christian and staff for the best Mother’s Day Gift . Worth every penny. I’m excited to share your talent with my colleagues and friends.

I have been seeing Dr. Christian for years. He finally talked me into getting cataract surgery done and Im very pleased with the result. He and his staff took great care of me, answering all my questions and making sure I understood both what the procedure and post-op experience would be like. The procedure itself was painless and seemed very routine. Fast forward to now, I can see 20/20 distance and dont need magnifying glasses for reading and computer work. Its hard to argue with that! My husband and I are both patients of Dr. Christian. He performed cataract surgery for both of us and we can now see 20/20. Dr. Christian and his staff have been wonderful throughout the process and the doctor always thoroughly explains any issues and procedures. If an issue does arise Dr. Christian quickly diagnoses the problem and then has an effective treatment plan. My husband and I can’t imagine trusting any other doctor with our eyes!

I recently had my cataract surgery done by Dr William Christian of The Vanguard Eye Institute. And it was amazing even with my eye condition that might have made this surgery tricky Dr Christian successfully had me seeing 20/20 the next day with no side effects! My brother had similar conditions with a different Dr and he ended up recouping for over a week in bed with blurry vision. It is worth getting the best Doctor. I recommend him to anyone who wants or needs to take care of their eyes. Dr Christian is the best!

Dr. Christian is simply the best of the best. I had glaucoma with slight cataracts and he took plenty of time listening to my questions, concerns and thoughts about the situation. He did not recommend the most expensive solution, as he thought a monofocal lens would be a better fit in my particular case and for the type of work I do. The results of the surgery were truly miraculous and my distance vision is now 20/15 — uncorrected! A first class doctor with a first class staff. I’d give them all more stars, but we’re only allowed five!

I cannot recommend Dr. William Christian enough to anyone in need of an outstanding ophthalmologist. I was referred to Dr. Christian by my angel optometrist, Dr. Gregory OConnor, who also recently had a similar surgery with Dr. Christian. I was born with nearsightedness and astigmatism, which caused me years of discomfort and bad vision. On top of that, I also later developed a cataract at a fairly young age, making my vision even worse. I had heard that the treatment of such an issue was very complicated, and so I was initially apprehensive about seeking medical attention. However, on Dr. O’Connor’s recommendation, I met Dr. Christian, whose expertise and experience gave me hope that I was in good hands.I can confidently say that Dr. Christian cured my eyes. His knowledge, skill, and patience throughout my treatment were exceptional. He took the time to explain my condition in detail, walked me through the treatment, and answered all my questions in a way I could easily understand. His professional, calm, and reassuring demeanor put me at ease, and I knew that I was in safe hands.Despite facing multiple vision conditions, including astigmatism and cataract, Dr. Christian successfully performed the necessary procedures on my eyes, and today, I have perfect vision. Dr. Christian and his team are amazing! I couldnt see without wearing my progressive glasses before I had refractive eye surgery. This is the easiest and best surgery I have ever done; I went in for surgery was done in about 1 hour. The day after I was reading, working on my computer, watching TV, walking my dogs and driving...doing everything without wearing prescription glasses. I had no pain, no down time, and 6 weeks later I have better than 20/20 vision...I have 20/15 vision!Im ecstatic.... Thank you, Dr. Christian you changed my life!!!

I thoroughly recommend Dr. Christian and his team for anyone who needs any type of laser surgery. He literally saved my sight. Although I am only in my mid 50s, I got a severe case of cataracts that came without warning and was progressing rapidly. I was within weeks of going blind.Dr. Christian assured me he could repair my eyes and restore my vision, and he did. From the first day I always felt like I was in good hands. His office staff is friendly and professional. I never had more than a five minute wait when I came in for my appointments. The surgical center was well staffed. All the nurses were so nice and caring. Post surgery, I could immediately see better. It’s just been a few weeks and my vision is improving daily. I’m already seeing at 20/20 but Dr. Christian said it will get even better.

I have no idea why this place has such positive reviews. First, the front desk staff was very enthusiastic to book my appointment. I experienced my appointment (two hours for an eye exam); they promised to email me various standard items. First, my prescriptions; second, my payment receipt (as I paid out of pocket: a lot); third, my future appointment reminder (because, allegedly, the physician was very concerned about my eye health). I received zero follow up. Simply spent two hours in an office, left with two paper prescriptions. Finally, the physician here is egocentric to no end. Good luck!

I was in bad shape when I walked into Dr. Christian’s office.Due to cataracts I was legally blind in my right eye and the vision in my left eye was poor. Dr. Christian informed me my cataracts were very aggressive and I needed surgery immediately. He generously offered to make room for me in his schedule.I had always been absolutely terrified at the thought of eye surgery. All I could think of was what could go wrong. But even though my case was very difficult, the surgery went smoothly - not the terror I was afraid it would be!My vision was so poor that almost anything would have been an improvement. What I got wasn’t just an improvement, it was a miracle. I now have 20/20 vision in both eyes. For the first time since I was 9 years old, I don’t need glasses for distance. And my reading vision is good enough that I don’t need reading glasses at age 67.I’m not just satisfied, I’m thrilled with the results. I’d absolutely recommend Dr. Christian to anyone who needs cataract surgery. Try not to wait until your cataracts are as serious as mine were, but if you do he can handle them. My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Christian for several years now and hes always great. My husband has some eye issues so weve gone more for him and mine was more routine. Now comes the time, not to give away my age, that he recommended cataract surgery. And he took a lot of time explaining why its needed and why its better to do it earlier rather than later. He explained the different lens options etc. as some are definitely more expensive then others. After our talk I decided to do the surgery right away within the month. When you ask his staff, they will volunteer that hes the best... They are a great staff, Maya, Andrecia, Valerie, Jessica, always helpful and friendly. And when Im at the surgery center the day of first procedure, the nurses and staff also explain that I chose a great doctor though hes a bit of a perfectionist so they are on their game. Now I know I chose correctly. For sure thats a trait besides being smart, skilled and friendly that I highly value. I certainly wouldnt trust my eyes to anyone and thats why youre reading reviews because you dont want to either. And the result is that its been 4 weeks, healing has gone pretty uneventfully and I can see clearly distance and up close without glasses which is the first time since I had to get glasses when I was a little girl in grade school. So you can count me as very happy. I dont believe you can go wrong chosing Dr. Christian as your eye physician.

I had a fantastic experience with The Vanguard Eye Institute. Dr. Christian is amazing. I had very bad astigmatisms in both of my eyes and now I have 20/20 vision in one eye and 20/15 in the other! The staff are super educated and knowledgeable as well. I felt like I was in good hands with everyone I interacted with in the office. I had been wearing contacts for over 30 years and I had multiple doctors tell me that nothing could be done with laser surgery to correct my vision. Dr. Christian performed PRK surgery for me last year and I had amazing results. He explained everything in detail and no detail about my safety and care was overlooked. My vision is now 20/15 and the contacts that had been damaging my corneas (through multiple infections) for years are a thing of the past. If you need help with your eyesight - hes the one to see!

How do I find the words to express how grateful and excited I am about the Refractive Lens Exchange surgery that was recently performed on both of my eyes? I recently had a refractive lens exchange on both eyes with Dr. Christian. When I first met with the Vanguard Eye Institute my eyesight was very weak especially in one eye. I could not read menus with small type or my texts on my phone and needed glasses for distance when driving. My poor eyesight was affecting my job as well. I am a Chief Creative Director and a lot of my time is spent on photo shoots looking at a model in the distance then looking on a monitor at the imagery. It was becoming very difficult for me to really see.Dr. Christian explained the process very well and it was a very smooth and easy procedure. I have been with Dr.Christian for some years now, for both regular eye care and cataract surgery. He is a fantastic physician. I travel a good distance just to see him. Four years ago, I had cataract surgery with Dr. Christian. I purchased Symfony lenses. I had enjoyed extraordinary vision in my youth, but it had deteriorated. I was more susceptible to injury from unseen objects due to peripheral narrowing. Uneven surfaces were dangerous for me. I was not comfortable driving at night.I had been seeing an optometrist, but he did not diagnose cataracts. I sought a medical evaluation. Dr. Christian told me that I had cataracts and needed surgery.I had the cataract surgery and it went very well. I did not suffer or feel pain at all. The facility where Dr. Christian performed the surgery was immaculate, with a highly qualified staff.After the surgery, I had the vision of my youth. For many many years I wore mono-vision (one eye sees distance and the other eye sees close) contact lenses. When I needed cataract surgery, my then ophthalmologist suggested the same type of lenses. After surgery I could not see well. The close vision was okay and the distance vision was okay. But the mid vision was not. I was having trouble with depth perception and felt unbalanced. Being a senior citizen, this condition was not good for me. I was recommended to see Dr. Christian, who said he could remove the lenses and insert multi-focal lenses. I have never heard of such a procedure. After much thought and a re-do of both eyes, I now can see close and far distances with both eyes. The surgery was pain-free and recovery minimal.Needless to say, Dr. Christian is an expert in his field. But beyond his credentials and accolades, he is very personable and communicates very well. He analyzes the problem, introduces possible solutions, answers questions and concerns in a friendly yet professional manner. He likes people and his demeanor shows it.I highly, highly recommend Dr. Christian.

Being the meticulous type, I did quite a bit of research into LASIK options, gathering recommendations online and from friends. It boiled down to two place, both of which used identical latest-generation technology and had excellent reputations. One was a bit more discount, and would have ultimately been a couple thousand dollars cheaper I believe.However when I visited each of the offices, the difference in the overall professionalism of staff, doctors, and office vibe made my decision to go with The Vanguard Eye Institute an easy one. I have not, for a moment, regretted my decision.Dr. Christian fixed my vision to better-than-perfect, and I havent had to bother with my glasses or those god-awful contact lenses ever since. After my periodic eye exam with noted Ophthalmologist, Dr, Gary Regier, who indicated my time had come for cataract surgery, he mentioned that due to being a patient with a prior detached Retina history, that special care, attention and surgical skills may be required.I was referred to Dr. William Christian, who, out of an abundance of caution, sent me to Retina specialist, Dr. Thomas Hanscom. Both Retina Partners and Vanguard Eye Institute are in the same medical complex in Santa Monica, CA. fortunately.After Retinas testing, back to Dr. Christian. From my first visit, with some trepidation, his staff members Amy, Valerie, Maya, Jessica and most of all, Andrecia, put me at ease.I was informed and reassured of the process ahead; and the Surgical Prep kit with eye drop schedule made a complex process.....easy to comply. Every visit was actually made easy with clear communications and professional courtesy.Obviously, I am a very grateful patient. He has wonderful “bedside manner” - He listened to my concerns, answered my questions, and offered me great advice. The facilities he uses are top notch! I had cataract surgery performed by Dr. Christian over two years ago, and I could not be happier with the way I am seeing now. He put in lenses that are variable focal length in both eyes. I think the lenses were called Tecnis Symfony. I am now able to read the newspaper and also see distant objects very well with both eyes. It is like I have my eyes from when I was in my 30s.Dr. Christian’s office staff is exceptional. They all seem extremely competent and friendly. An important part of the surgery was the many measurements they took of my eyes. I suspect that makes the difference between various ophthalmologists and the success of the results. The replacement lenses are apparently made for each of my eyes, leading to the wonderful vision I am experiencing now. One unexpected benefit is the rendition of colors. Whites are bright white, not the “orange” color cast caused by my cataracts. Other colors are similarly brighter. I am an amateur photographer, so color rendition is very important.The surgery was not inexpensive, but I cannot put a value on my vision as time passes. Dr. Christian says that the new lenses will not change over time and do not get cataracts.

Hello,I have been contemplating lasik for quite sometime and recently brought it up to a coworker/friend during a lunch conversation. He told me his cousin recently had the surgery and was extremely impressed by Dr. Christian and his staff and was more than satisfied with the results. Encouraged by his cousins comments, my coworker decided to have to procedure done by the Dr. Christian as well and was just as happy as his cousin and, highly recommend him to me.I had the procedure done 2 days ago and I couldn’t be happier! The surgery itself was fairly quick, painless and smooth. Dr. Christian explained what he was doing through the whole process as well what I was going to feel after. He warned me of an irritating type of feeling, similar to when you chop an onion, post procedure, and boy! was he right. It went away a few hours later and I felt fine afterwards.So far, I have had a great experience and I’m more than happy with the results. I haven’t fully recovered, as I still see a little fuzzy here and there, but my vision is way better than what it was before the procedure.I highly recommend Dr. Christian! Got lasik from Dr. Christian exactly a week ago. Its still blowing my mind that I can not only see, but I can see better than I did with glasses or contacts. Its expensive but Im not messing around with my vision to save a few dollars. Example- the doctor and patient prior to my procedure had to call Dr. Christian in to make sure she put the corneal flap back correctly (horrifying). This is why I did my research and went to Dr. Christian, not someone who took a 3 hr seminar and is selling a 70% discount on groupon. Best decision ever.

I was introduced to Dr. Christian’s practice by a colleague who had a LASIK surgery done on both of his eyes.I was reluctant to undergo a procedure on the eyes, and although I knew how safe it was, I couldnt help but worry. Furthermore, upon consultation it turned out I required two different procedures: a LASIK on one eye and a PRK on the other. For a 55th birthday present to myself this year, I decided to get refractive lens exchange surgery on both eyes (at the same time). The ladies (Maya, Andressia, and Jessica) at The Vanguard Eye Institute set me up for the big day two weeks prior – eye drop prescriptions, pre- and post-op instructions, paperwork, etc. They were great! I had the procedure done on Feb 17, 2021. By Feb 19, I could have gone to work (I’m nurse), but opted to take a few days off. The Surgical Team at Specialty Surgical Center were also all wonderful. During my procedure, as he looked into one eye with one of their apparatus, Dr. Christian announced aloud with glee, “Man, I love this machine!” Without a doubt, I knew the latest and greatest medical equipment were being used on me. The procedure went smoothly. Dr. Christian is the best at what he does. He is professional, highly educated, extremely knowledgeable, and very nice with great bedside manners.Recovery was a cinch – almost nothing at all. I wore eye shields/protectors on day of surgery and for a week at night when I slept. I’m still putting eye drops in, which is a 6-week regimen (but not a big deal). I’ve had two post-op appointments (next morning after surgery and ten days later). My visual acuity was J13 before (which is really bad). Now, I have J1+ – 20/20 vision for the rest of my life!! I’m so glad I had this procedure done. If anyone is wavering about getting refractive lens exchange, I understand, because I wavered for quite a while myself. At the tortured time of seventh grade, right when my self-confidence was abysmal-my eyesight began to deteriorate. Distances became murky and faces were obscured. I surrendered myself to the four eyed world, and selected a pair of cat-Eye glasses. Ballet was relatively challenging, constantly slipping down my nose and clattering onto the floor. Activities like running became merely impossible as they bounced up and down on my nose.In high school I upgraded to contact lenses, which were a vast improvement but I struggled with them daily. They were a constant source of irritation and discomfort. No matter what I did, my eyes felt grainy when wearing contacts. I’d accepted imperfect eyes as part of my life, but it was a persistent annoyance. It was most certainly not a hardship, but was an ongoing frustration.And then I began to consider LASIK surgery. My friend had the surgery and described it as life changing. I thought that may be a bit overblown, but I was intrigued. After much deliberation and research-related to both costs and heath risks-I made the decision that LASIK with only Dr. William Christian, was the decision for me.I’ll be honest, I did everything I could to save money, but I quickly learned that saving money meant finding a subpar doctor. Dr. Christian was on the higher-tiered price of surgery, but I do not care. The quality of life benefit is so significant. Dr. Christian is a highly trained surgeon, who did his residency at Yale, and went on to do a fellowship in cataract & refractive surgery. This is why I chose him, most LASIK surgeons are not fellowship trained in refractive surgery.The surgery itself, I’ll be honest, was really not that bad. The procedure takes only 15 minutes, you do not feel any pain, and Dr. Christian so sweetly talks you through the entire thing. I went home, fell asleep with clear plastic eye shields over my eyes, and woke the next morning to exclaim I COULD SEE!!! Not only could I see, I could see detail, and distance! I went to my follow-up appointment at The Vanguard Eye Institute. I was legally blind before surgery and seeing 20/400. At my follow-up not even 24hrs later, I was seeing 20/15. That is better than perfect! It really is not an exaggeration to say that Dr. Christian changed my life.The cost was expensive for me at 22 years old, but I decided to spend on something that mattered and brought long term value to my life, and that is what Dr. Christian brought to my life. I began wearing glasses when I was 4 years old, having grown up severely farsighted, had an astigmatism, and truly hating glasses my entire life. Once I hit my early 40s, my nearsighted vision had become so poor it was impacting my quality of life. I couldnt read anything at all without my glasses, and even with them I couldnt read in the evenings due to the eye strain of working all day in front of a computer. People made jokes when they saw the size of the font on my phone --people can see that from the moon they would say, except that is how large I had to have it.Over the years I had always been told I was not a candidate for Lasik . By the time I met Dr. Christian, I was spending a few thousand dollars a year on glasses due to a fast changing prescription for the worse, a new need for progressive lenses, and my own insecurities causing me to by the most stylish brand name frames. One day I found out Dr. Christian was doing consultations at my eye doctors office and I went, assuming I would be told the same thing I always had been over the years- you are not a candidate. This time, I was told that while I was of course not a Lasik candidate, there was a surgery called refractive lens exchange which I was a candidate for. Not one doctor had ever told this to me before. I left there walking on a cloud.I went through with the surgery on both eyes, and its the best investment I have ever made. The price tag may seem high, but not when it comes with an entirely better quality of life. I can actually see, and read a book if I want to in the evening, and during the last year, I have not had to deal with fogging of glasses due to mask wearing. Life changing overall.
