What a great resource for students wanting to learn how to be zookeepers, and a great place for a lovely outing and way for kids to learn more about exotic animals right in the Conejo Valley! The zoo rescues animals when they are confiscated at airports or from residential homes where they were wrongfully brought to begin with.Love that they offer a great birthday experience here, too!

Fantastic place. Up close and personal with Lions, tigers, hyena, baboons, alligator etc. The training students and staff couldn’t be more friendly. What a great place to spend a few hours and a great resource to both the animals and the public.

Small exotic animals zoo. They have tigers, lions, parrots, porcupines, hyenas, many types of monkeys, reptiles, a pony, donkeys, a few other animals.The price is $10 per adult. Kids 2 and under are free.Free parking.They have a show with animals.It took us an hour and a half to see everything.Open on Saturdays and Sundays 11:00-4:30.

A quaint zoo, purposed for students of their program to work with and study animals as well as guests to enjoy learning about them. Feel free to ask the staff about anything. Animals, their education, their future plans with their degree, they are very willing to chat with you. It costs $9 per adult (not sure about kids), and recommend pre-purchasing tickets since its all online anyways, then you show the person at the entry the email you receive. The zoo takes about 1-2hours depending on your pace and interest. They have various shows throughout the day starting at 12pm. I recommend going later in the day as the animals become more active as the day goes, and the training shows start at 1:30pm. Have fun!

We went this last weekend. Everyone was so happy to have us there. They made us feel welcomed, and well informed about all of the animals. They have cute Halloween decorations up. Nice amount of animals for a small zoo :) the show was cute as well, and they are doing a swell job of keeping people social distant. My favorite areas are the birds and tortoises.

Cute teaching zoo for the whole family to attend. It is located in Moorpark College and has its own parking lot.I brought my 2 year old here for a birthday party and he has a wonderful time. We attended a show where they brought out 8 different animals and got to attend the lion feeding as well. Theres all so a ton of other animals to look at. He loved looking at the birds and the monkeys best. The zoo itself is very clean and tidy and the staff was really niceWe will definitely come back another time for a fun mini trip!

Wow. Like, wow in a bad way. Theyve got a couple tigers, a lion and some monkeys and birds. All of the animals are rescues or abuse cases so they just hide in their cages. We didnt pay ($12 a person!) but if we had Id be super pissed. There are signs everywhere saying AMERICAS Teaching Zoo but I wish theyd stop... its embarrassing.

This zoo is a lot of fun and affordable. We went for the show that happens at 12 and 2 on the weekends and it was pretty solid compared to other kinds of zoo talks Ive been to. Parking is free which is nice and there isnt too much walking needed to see everything which is good but also means that you have a pretty short walk to see everything. They were also doing face painting while we were there which was fun. Want to go again sometime to do the behind the scenes tour where you get to see some other animals and look at the feeding area. Fun and affordable but not something to spend the whole day at.

After watching videos on social media of animals at various zoos last year during this pandemic, I paid a visit to the only zoo here in Ventura County, and it did not disappoint!America’s Teaching Zoo, which is the home of Moorpark College’s Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) program, is well-kept and cared for by the students of the EATM program. It’s not overwhelming in size (which I did not mind), yet still showcases a variety of animals from around the world - birds, monkeys, tortoises, Neil + Karma (the two tigers) and Ira the Lion, among others.I especially enjoyed the live demonstrations of the student trainers working directly with the animals. They are very informative, open to answering any of your questions, and their dedication to caring for these animals definitely shows.It will definitely be worth your weekend afternoon to come out, especially if you have kids, and see these animals!

Moorpark Colleges local on-campus Zoo is a grand old time! Everyones super friendly, the critters are lovely and its just a darn cozy place. The students run everything under the close supervision of staff, and you can really tell that everyone genuinely adore and appreciate the animals with the love and care they give them.Yall and your family should go if youve never been, they have awesome animal shows on the weekends!!! 🦊

Great way to spend a couple of hours locally learning about animals. The property is great. The entire place (feeding, taking care of the animals, the shows) is ran by the students of the school. Because ots a teaching zoo you get to get Michael oser to the animals and the staff is very engaging and knowledgeable and eager to answer your questions. Also, when you come here youre helping fund the student program and seeing some amazing animals! A must visit.

Visiting family here in Moorpark. We are from Michigan. This was on my goddaughters a grown womans check list. We spent our afternoon here walking along your zoo looking at the amazing animals. The students very friendly and willing to share their knowledge plus answer questions. just flip through my photos. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did. So many very well groomed species. They looked well cared for. Cages plenty big enough. Not to many in any. Very clean. The Tiger was showing off flipping over on his back. The Monkey carried his red ball everywhere. So cute.

This is our second year coming to the Spring Spectacular with our grandchildren ages 6 to 12. 5 star both visits! Interactions with all students were 5 star.My first conversation was with Christine who wants to work with lions. She was so enthusiastic and friendly. Richard at the booth about foods was so patient. He even came over to King Ira and shared great information.All of the booths were superior to last year. Great variety and enthusiastic presentations.Creature feature with the wolf dogs was amazing. All the speakers were passionate but the main lady should write a book! Articulate and quick on her feet with questions!2:30 presentation from an Alumni was fast paced and humorous. Loved the assortment of animals.Just a thought...freshen up the bathrooms in the portables by theater (paint/minor repairs)Im proud to be an alumni of Moorpark College (1972).

Love this zoo do much. There are plenty of knowledgeable staff to answer questions about the animals and then enjoy the questions. There are not a ton of animals there but plenty enough for enjoyment. Kids love it and the time it takes to go through the area is perfect for children. They do have feeding g times and shows as well and the price is right.

Great place to bring kids and family. Explore the lion, tigers, bird and many more. I do suggest to come early to get the behind tickets, its worth it. Also bring cash for tickets. They only take cash. Also looks like you could have birthday parties here. I saw two of them. I recommend this place alot.

Love this zoo!!! My daughter took a week long summer camp here learning more about careers offered to animal lovers. She had a tour with the trainers and students there and learned a lot within the week. They are opened to the public during the weekend and have quite a few animals to see up close. Check oi the baboon and the tigers.

Amazing summer camp. Every year this camp turns out to be the camp that my kids love the most. They learn about the animals, they get to interact with them, they have animals races and fun games. At the last day of the camp they get to present an animal in a show. Every morning they cannot wait to get there!!

Its great little zoo, especially for families with small children. Its only open on weekends and run by students in Moorpark Colleges Exotic Animal Training Program (EATM). The students dedicate a lot of time to their animals, and the zoo is saving for a major renovation for its large cats and others.They offer memberships and animal sponsorships, and every day the students put on animal shows for their guests. The students are also excited to answer questions about their animals.The zoo also hosts birthday parties, summer camp, and on weekdays, trips for schools.

My wife and I came here and had a blast. Tickets are 9 dollars a person, less for kids. The zoo is not very big and can be explored in an hour. However, take your time. They have cool shows and feeding times for the lion. The staff are all very friendly and informative. Parking is also free. It opens at 11 but I suggest coming around 1pm, all the cool shows happen in the afternoon. Have fun 😀

Had a great time exploring the zoo! Its not too big, but they have a great variety of animals. Because its run by students, the staff seemed extra excited to share information about the animals. Highlights included seeing a trainer do tricks with a raven and another trainer feed their lioness! It was very warm, otherwise I would have stayed longer. I would recommend going in the winter or early spring, and to bring lots of water!

Great place for a small, relaxed zoo experience. The student staff were awesome. They answered lots of questions and shared information about the animals. Clarence, the Galapagos tortoise, is 98 years old and huge. My nieces loved watching him eat (OK, I did, too).

My family and I had a great time at the zoo on Sunday. They were having a community appreciation day in which all entrance was free. We decided to pay for the behind the scenes guided tour as well and LOVED IT! The tour guides were not only friendly and helpful, but super inforative. All things considered, we had a great day at the Zoo and will be returning regularly.

I went through the program at Moorpark and it was amazing. The staff does a great job staying on top of all the advances in the field of a animal care. Its a great way to learn; in the class room one moment then immediately applying the information. The students and faculty take great pride in keeping a clean environment; not only for the animals, but the people visiting too! Great fun for all ages. A lot of really cool events going on regularly so make sure to check in and see whats new!!

This place is a gem! Not crowded, just outside of the San Fernando Valley, friendly staff and because of the fact that it is an educational facility training new zookeepers and animal specialists, the place lets you get much closer to the animals and get a much better hands-on tour than the LA Zoo which is just too crowded!Be warned, its more expensive and all-cash, so a family of 4 is going to run you about $55 if youre taking the behind-the-scenes tour (which is TOTALLY worth it).Its very pretty as well, albeit Santa Barbara Zoo tops it for looks, but thats not a fair comparison honestly.Go here, youre helping fund the student program and seeing some amazing animals!

We take our toddler here often. So easy to get to and just the right length of time to spend in a zoo. Its no San Diego zoo but you dont have to be here all day and fight traffic and pay $10 for a water. In and out with sanity and the animals are fairly close encounters. Also free to get in.

Its a pretty small enclosed place for kiddos to see some animals and learn about them. Every section has a guide who can tell you more about each animal in their exhibit. My kiddo liked it so im happy with it, even though I am not a fan of seeing animals in cages.

They got a bald eagle, lion, tiger, hyena, alligator, and lots of moneys and tortoises. One VERY large tortoise. The food trucks inside are terrific. The people working there were very knowledgeable and nice. There were tons of staff and students everywhere.

Beautiful date with my incredible girlfriend, who personally knows the head of the department. Ginger and I had a wonderful time. The highlight had to be where a very curious Capuchin took an interest in her, and wanted to have a serious bonding moment. The pair were absolutely adorable, looking at each other, and seeming to share all kinds of information to one another.We will definitely be looking forward to sharing more moments there.

They have lions and tigers! And a ugly hiena...I had no idea! Very cool. But poor beautiful creatures are locked up in small cages. Cant we put together a funding to get them bigger roaming cages.Follow up; got a nice response from the owner. Very pleases to hear the expansion efforts are in the process. I went here thinking the animals would be local and cared for properly. Instead I saw staff that fumbled their words and didn’t really know about the animals and the worst part was that the lion was in a tiny cage, smaller than my bathroom. These animals should be roaming the Savannah and this zoo is putting them in inhumane cages for profit. It’s despicable. My daughter, age 5, asked why someone would do that to a lion. Even she could see how awful it was. When we asked a staff member, they showed us a super small “updated” spot the lion was moving into. It was the next thing up from despicable. Please encourage this place to release the lion to a place that can properly care for it and give it adequate space it deserves.

A fun zoo, open on the weekends. The Zoo is operated by Moorpark Colleges Exotic Animal Training and Management program (EATM). The scale is smaller and so great for a few hours long visit. Check the schedule for the various presentation times. First several times are the students about ready to finish and the later times are for the first year students learning how to conduct them. The animals seem to mostly be retired film and tv animals and rescued animals that cant be returned to the wild. They are continually expanding and improving the enclosures.

Caged animals. Yeah, animals are neat. I hope they can expand so the animals will have more room. Such a catch-22. In a perfect world theyre in the wild, but here students learn to care for them in captivity. Lots of good chances to expose youth and others to become interested in animals and conservation.

Wow ! How would you like to be on a first name bases with a Raven or Monkey or even an Alligator ? You can have that here ! This is a teaching zoo where the student trainers walk around with their animals and share all about them. My children range 11 to 23, love the intimite experience and I have learned so much. There is a place for private parties, behind the scenes encounters, and even a small show. Their productions are not Hollowood slick and distance, much more home town where you feel you have a authentic encounter with animals, learning about their behaviors, personalies and place in the world. This is not a full day experience, more half day, located away from the noice of the big city. We have gone back repeatedly and even have a family membership.

This is a relatively small zoo. Although there arent many types of animals on display, I think its a very good zoo overall.The zoo is run mainly by students studying to become animal trainers, and of course the students are also the performers of the shows (paid, separate from tickets).The staff waiting near the animal cages will carefully explain the details of the animals, and in addition to the animals, there are various corners that children can enjoy.Both park admission tickets and show tickets are sold online only (no on-site sales).Masks and temperature checks are required to enter the park. In addition, you must declare your health status using your smartphone before entering the park.
