One star for the overgrown garden, one for the friendly staff, one for my courtesy, zero for the food. My friend and I ordered two 3 courses for our dinner. My friend had a cold soup with mango sorbet. It sounds interesting but tasted just like cucumber/celery smoothie with a scoop of mango sorbet😅. I had a tomato soup but without any tomato flavor, and it was sweet🤔. The bread came with rosemary butter, but the rosemary was too strong, bread was supermarket grade. Appetizer for my friend was a fish cake with veggies and some crackers, same fish as they used in the main course as you can see on the pictures. It tasted okay first, then when the main courses came, we realized the fish they used in the main course was exactly the same as what they used in the appetizer just in different sizes. The steak that I ordered was over cooked, and we never touched the fish. The sautéed veggies on our main courses were same, all the sauces tasted the same and way too sweet! We asked for the check without waiting for the dessert, the waiter didn’t bother to ask the reason why we didn’t touch the fish or if we want the dessert.I wouldn’t recommend food for the Ranch House, the garden is not well maintained either. The owner should know the truth and make improvement if they want to survive in this world.

Cannot express enough how amazing this place is! Got married here early May of 2024 and I couldnt have been happier with my decision. The food and drinks were amazing, the service was exceptional and atmosphere was everything we wanted and more. Kathy who handles events helped us every step of the way, and made everything so easy!

As a wedding vendor, I can’t rave enough about this place. Tara was extremely helpful and accommodating. She let me set up early and worked together with me the entire night.The garden was stunning, it was like walking into a fairytale.The food was absolutely hands down some of the best I’ve ever had. That’s coming from someone who eats catered food almost every weekend. Despite the groom requesting to delay the food after it was already made, it came out hot. The chicken was moist and perfectly seasoned. There was a delicious brown sweet sauce that completely made the dish for me. Highly recommend The Ranch House!

This is one of those places that is so incredibly delicious, that I got annoyed because I don’t live closer. If you’re in the ojai area, this is a must. They have two options, either 3 or 5 course prixe fix menus. This isn’t one of those places that have small portions either, if anything, the mains were huge. The absolute highlights for me were the watermelon fizz cocktail and the porchetta entree. The staff were so sweet and incredibly helpful with picking drinks and food when we got stuck. And this place is essentially a lush garden.

Love this place. We got married here 18 years ago. Returned for our anniversary and it was still wonderful! The staff was amazing. The food was absolutely delicious. It brought back wonderful memories and left us with a full belly.

It was our date night in Ojai again and we decided to try The Ranch House for dinner. Surprisingly,We were able to get reservations the same day. The atmosphere is amazing! It was really a special place. The food was very good and the set menu and price was fair.My only issue, which isnt that big was the price on the mocktails.Otherwise is was a wonderful experience.

Beautiful location. So picturesque. Not a single table that isnt in a beautiful spot. There is a lovely koi pond and you can walk around the restaurant and look at the gardens. The dinner service is $60 for 3 choices from appetizer, soup/salad, entree and dessert. We had the brussel sprouts and blue cheese salad. The octopus was amazing. The pork belly and filet was delicious as well. We didnt try the desserts.

Oh, my, gosh!!!! This place! Words can barely define this place!My wife and I were looking to go out to a nice place for our 5 year anniversary, and as you can imagine, it is hard to find a place in the times of COVID.But we found this place and made a reservation via Google, and it was all taken care of. The moment we walked into the front part of the Garden, we loved it! Its such a romantic and beautiful place! We were shortly greeted by Russ, the Manager. He was supper awesome, got us checked in and seated instantly!We were quickly waited on by Ruby, who had an amazing and bubbly personality! She was supper awesome and assisted my wife and I so well with understanding their unique menu. Which let me tell you, is amazing! you can ether get 3, of their 5 courses, for $60, or you can get one of each course for $15 more ($75).My wife, who has had a gastric bypass, got the 3 course meal, and she was quite satisfied with the food she got, not feeling over filled, or still wanting for more. My self, I got the full deal of the 5 course meal, and felt exactly the same!The 5 course meal looks as followed: Appetizer, Soup, Salad, Entree and Dessert.The App, Salad and Dessert are kind of small, but they are perfect as the entree and the soup as average to normal sized servings for a restaurants. But personally, if they had been any larger, then I dont know if I would have been able to eat the whole 5 course meal!Oh, and their soda! I got Coke-Cola and it tasted heavenly!!! I have only tasted an equal taste to that of Mexico Sugar Cain Cola. But hey, you be the judge of it, I loved it!Once we were done with the food and were ready to go, the total meal came out to $177, with a 15% tip (that I willingly gave). I really do plan to come back to this place soon, possibly bring my mom here for mothers day in May. If I could, I would want to just relax in the garden here and work on my book.After we paid and left our table, we were aloud to walk around the location and admire the surrounding atmosphere, while staying a safe distance from other parties of course. We even got a breaf background of this restraint from Russ, and how it use to be an herbal garden home before it had changed into The Ranch House.If you are ever in town, and looking for a romantic place to go out with your significant other, this is the place to go! It is well worth the buck you are spending here. Expect to spend about roughly two hours here, and enjoy every second of it!

Pre- fixe, five course dinner. The Ginger Carrot soup was as smooth as velvet with perfectly blended flavors, the lamb shank meat fell off the bone. It was moist and had really deep,rich flavors. Very romantic spot but I could see going with a small group as well.We had a lovely table, secluded amidst the bamboo and foliage. Enchanting place. Excellent menu.

An exquisite dinner experience celebrating local agriculture. The moment you step through the front door, you are transported to an tranquil oasis. For $55, one is able to enjoy the five-course dinner by selecting from the menu. I asked to be seated at a different table, and the manager kindly assisted with the request and seated me at the couples table overlooking the backyard. The staff are also very attentive, and everyone will chip in to make sure all patrons are well taken care of.

This was an ideal spot for a delicious meal in a beautiful setting. Our food and the staff were all 5-stars, however all of their seating is outside (which is lovely and ideal) and there are no fans. It’s quite hot in the summer, and during our last of 3 courses, the flies were absolutely swarming us and our food, and I was drenched in sweat. Installing fans would have made a huge difference.In terms of food, everything was delicious. The cocktails were fabulous, the salads were satisfying, and the entrees were cooked perfectly. The wait staff was kind and knowledgeable. We’d definitely want to come back in more comfortable weather.

Very disappointed with both service and the sticker shock of the the prices. We had heard a lot of good reviews from people and were not impressed. For starters, our waiter came to our table only once to drop off our drinks and we waited over 30 mins for refills. After we placed our orders, we waited 30 minutes for appetizers and he brought the wrong order, which was the table next to us which had been sat 20 minutes after we were originally sat. We waited another 20 minutes for flatbread that came with our appetizer and it was cold. Our filet mignons were cold and overcooked by the time we got them. We ordered medium rare and mustve been almost well done. The filet mignon tasted like brisket and was so dry the meat was flaking. Lastly, the orange cake was burnt on the bottom and was the driest cake I have ever had.A $200 bill later because the waiter did not mention prices when it came to 3 or 5 course meals was a big surprise for the especially bad service we received.SAVE YOUR MONEY and go somewhere else.

Beautiful belated Bday/Mothers day date with my girls! Birds chirping, water fountains bubbling surrounded by flowers and greenery.. just lovely! The five course menu and service were excellent! Wild boar and duck done to perfection. . everything ordered was tasty, actually. The exec chef, Logan DeBone is passionate about his locally sourced fare and it shows. Ill definitely be back. If you go, be sure to tell the tall, silver fox with a NY accent, Russ, that I sent ya! 😉

Fantastic dining experience in an incredible unique outdoor atmosphere. Its like dining in a Zen garden, but with heaters. The menu is either a 3 course or 5 course meal. We went with the 5 course dinner because... why not. Drink specials are different every night, and we started off with the dark Manhattan. It was perfect from the taste to the big round ice cube in it. For appetizer, I had the lamb Flatbread, which was delicious but had a lot of grisle on the meat. Second course was a warm apple fennel soup. It was better than expected, but I couldnt get over the sense I was eating warm applesauce. Lol. 3rd course was the salad which while simple was so fresh it was a favorite course of the meal! The entrees brought everything home. We split the filet mignon with black truffle mashed potatoes, and the lamb dish. Both were perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor. Desert was almost too much but we managed to get it in. It was a strawberry and lemon curd pie served with their signature and stamped cookie. Overall, Id say its a do not miss if youre there. Ambiance and service were impeccable. Food, while entrees were fantastic a little of the early creativity seemed to be just doing something different to be different...like the soup. Id give it a good solid 4 and recommend it.

A perfect meal in a perfect setting. We both got a five course and had a splendid time munching down on delightful food. Every plate that came our way was delicious and somehow better than the last. Shout out to the chefs! Our server Natalie was attentive and sweet and she was able to anticipate our wants/needs before we had to say anything. Excellent ambient. However, $50 per person for mediocre foods is disappointing. Service is okay. Outdoor seating is nice with heaters around you. You will hear water sound and birds. Super peaceful just like other areas in Ojai. Keep the hope low for their food and you will be happy.

This is an amazing place. The surroundings are beautiful, the food is excellent and the service is the best. Everything is perfect without being pretentious. They will also accommodate food allergies or other needs. The night we went, they fixed me a special dessert because an allergy would not allow me to eat the featured dessert that day. I highly recommend The Ranch House!

I can count on one hand the number of restaurants I have had to walk out on in my life and The Ranch House is now one of them.We arrived a few minutes after 7 for a 7:00 reservation and had to wait in the lobby for 5 minutes before they could seat us.We were then seated at at able overlooking the beautiful gardens, however this was probably the only positive of the night.The service was probably the worst I have experienced in my life at any restaurant. It took 25 minutes to get our orders in and we did not have our drinks and appetizers until 8:15 pm, an hour and 15 minutes into the meal.We had the fried ravioli and cauliflower steak. Both items were extremely cold. The ravioli had no flavor at all and the cauliflower was extremely hard and difficult to chew. The sauce that came with the cauliflower tasted very off and we could not get through either dish.The waiter came by 10 minutes later and without asking apologized for the drink delay and offered to comp them. We were nervous about getting food poisoning and did not want to stick around for a 3-4 hour experience so we asked if they could halt the rest of the 5-course order and allow us to just leave. She brought the manager over who was deeply apologetic and offered to take care of us and comp the entire meal. We opted to just take the out and leave while we could which she was happy to allow. Honestly we were pretty happy that she was so nice to let us just leave and avoid what could have been a really bad night for our first night in Ojai.Its a shame that such a beautiful restaurant with a seemingly great reputation has fallen so far. I hope ownership or management changes soon so this place can get itself back together.

Amazing quiet ambiance, as if sitting in a grass hut in a bamboo woods with string lights under a crystal chandelier by a bubbling stream... Wait! Thats exactly what we were doing!! We had a wonderful festive day with my daughter getting married. We had 20 family members that came to the restaurant. We all were so excited. I had never had the experience of the Ranch House. We were greeted and seated. As the evening progressed, the drinks were served, the waiter then asked if we were ready to order. I had the three course meal, roasted vegetables, which was good but the portion sizes were very less than expected, I had the shrimp appetizer which was great however the portions were really less than I expected, then I desired the Prime Rib, Mac & Cheese & Bacon. The serving of the Mac & Cheese was adequate The Prime Rib serving was basically raw, I had three bites, that was it. It was so very rare and fatty, I couldnt eat it. Of course you never return a order in a restaurant, you never know when a chef would be offended and spit into your plate. Once we had completed dinner, we had a cake to serve to the bride and groom, we had no space to serve our guests, our dinner dishes were still in front of us. There was nobody around to buss our table. So my son and I had to clear the table.So for my first experience at the Ranch House, It was not very favorable, the staff was around every now and then for the entire night. However for a while they would basically disappear. The restaurant had a few tables going, but nothing really over the top busy. But we would not see the servers available to our needs. You would think for $1700 we would get superior service, this did not happen. I write quite a few reviews for destinations Ive traveled to, this is one restaurant I will never return to.

Really amazing atmosphere but the food was lacking given the price point. Dont get me wrong, it was good, but not $100+ per person good. Id say maybe $50-$70 per person good. The salads in particular were pretty basic and didnt feel well crafted. My salad was essentially a bed of untossed spinach with some cranberries and candied walnuts on top that were too sweet. It felt more like a decent store-bought salad to me as opposed to a high-end restaurant salad. The tomato bisque was good, but not lick-the-bowl amazing. A little cracked pepper or some other garnish would easily take it up a notch. The entree was the only part of the meal that I felt matched the price point. I had the lamb shank which was cooked well, and the accompanying potatoes and vegetables were delicious too. But again, the other four courses were just alright given the price. I would have given 3.75 (rounded up to 4) stars, but when my partner and I arrived on the dot for our reservation time, nobody noticed or greeted us at the front for 3 or 4 minutes - we had to make ourselves noticed, bringing me down to a 3.25 rounded down to 3 stars given what I was expecting from the price.

NOT Gourmet! The food was BAD; It had no flavor, herbs or even a speck of S&P.People were nice, but the service was super uncomfortably slow with only seven tables occupied. The vegetables were fresh, but the meat was disgusting, chewy, overcooked, of super poor quality and nothing had any flavor at all. NOTHING had any spice or seasoning of any kind in ANY way. The dressing for the beet salad had one ingredient, vinegar; It was inedible. I could have gone to the market and spent $5 on a few veggies, salt and pepper and saved $330. It seems the only thing besides meat and veg in the kitchen is oil, vinegar and butter. Has the person cooking ever heard of something like onion, garlic or God forbid a sprig of basil or thyme? They need to upgrade their meat quality and hire a real chef, not a parolee line cook.

The crab cakes are their shining glory. I would come here just for the crab cakes. The ambience is stunning.I had their filet mignon which was one of their specials for the evening. Though I ordered it rare, the meat was tough. The mashed potatoes and vegetables served with it were not up to the par of the cost of the meal.

To whom it may concern:So I had a dinner reservation at 6pm and drove all the way from Santa Monica with my lady to arrive at 615pm. The environment and ambiance was beautiful with the hostess/manager being very accomodating with getting us the right table so my lady was warm. We sat down and ordered 3 course meal and 5 course. In the beginning the food was decent but noticed we were being rushed between courses while trying to enjoy our conversation without having people clear our table. At 837pm I noticed people around us who had come in after us were already eating. The manager told me the the kitchen was having trouble and some mental issues. with the cook.Seriously. Really. I had to get up twice to go check on our food.Then finally the food came at 845pm and my ladys food was cold and the had too much white pepper in the mashed potatoes and my ahi tuna was also cold. The whole point is that the waiter totally forgot about us. They refunded the whole meal but the night was ruined. Cant get that back. Money does not cover.

My partner surprised me with a proposal here a few months ago and it was the perfect place to get engaged. From the moment we walked in I couldnt get over how cute everything was - bamboo, stone paving, market lighting, live music. We drove in from Los Angeles and it just felt like a completely different, peaceful world.We were greeted before we even got to the door of the restaurant like we were old friends and seated at a private table where we could only see the jazz trio that was playing. It felt like we were alone which ended up being exactly right for the occasion.The food was amazing. Absolutely amazing time! Came and was seated with our incredible waitress Tara and honestly think she made the experience above and beyond. This was mine and my husbands first time here and she guided us to the best dishes and wine selection plus great rapport and conversation. Would absolutely recommend. The only thing this restaurant has going for itself is the outdoor setting and thats about it! My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. We were trying this restaurant based on the reviews and what a disappointment! Im not sure how this place has a 4.5! This is not an upscale restaurant. The price of the fixed menu (3 or 5 course menus) does not reflect the quality of the food that you are served. The portions are large portions but lacking in quality! Our plates were dirty and at one point we requested a clean plate. We commented to our waiter but he didnt seem very concerned. Management did not come by to check in on us or our concerns. Its my understanding that this restaurant is only open for dinner. I expected better from a place thats only open from 5:00-9:00 pm! Needless to say, not the anniversary dinner that we were anticipating, it definitely did not feel special. I would not recommend spending your money at this restaurant based on my experience.

Enjoyed a cocktail that was perfect. The ambiance is wonderful. There is seating indoors and outside. We chose outside. Great vibe. Landscaping with water feature is pleasing. There were families and larger groups, though this is a great place for an intimate dinner for two. So glad we were finally able to try it out.

Even doing the 3 course option, this was an incredibly expensive dinner... I dined with two other people and we ordered an array of different dishes. The food was really disappointing. I cant say anything we had was good. You can spend a third of the price and get an infinitely better meal elsewhere.If youre ok paying a lot for a unique atmosphere, then I would recommend. Love this place. Welcoming staff, fantastic location - sitting among the sculptures, fountains, plants - its like a hidden cove. The food is wonderful. They have a prix fixe menu but it does change even though a few standbys that are always available. There is always a slant to what could be an ordinary meal - an extra light sauce on the side or dripped over the top - that gives their food a beautiful presentation but more importantly - taste.

Welcome to the best restaurant in at least a 40 mile radius. First date? This is for you if the $200 bill is stomach-able. Is this your 20th date and youre just trying to find something different? They have something for you. Still not convinced? I enjoyed their Paté, followed by braised lambshank, and flour-less brownies. The missus wanted to go star gazing afterwards. I polished off my black Manhattan, hopped into the passenger seat, dropped the convertible roof, and flipped on the heated seats. The missus counted stars as I counted sheep jumping over the back of my eyelids. I slept like a raccoon who couldnt fit through the door after a laborious day of Vacation.

I wasnt a big fan of their soups, but thats only an issue if you do a 5 course meal. Limited menu but extremely tasty. Perfect proportions brought out at the proper time.

With gluten allergies, the menu is very very limited.Salads look like a pile of reused cooked vegetables from days ago.Slices of baked prime beef for dinner are so so bland.Seasonal vegetables in the summer are potatoes, carrots and beans.$75 per person plus wine for salad, appetizer and entree is absurd at this low food quality. Feels like cruise ship food.

We had a late Valentines Day dinner and I chose the Ranch House. It was a perfect decision and place. We had the 5 course menu which was awesome. Every single meal was excellent and delicious. Started drizzling and asked the employees if we can move. They helped us in seconds and even brought me a small warm blanket! Very thoughtful. Service was excellent: every staff member was polite and attentive. The restaurant is out of way a bit but its worth the drive. Highly recommended. We are going back for sure. Thank you!

Stunning, gorgeous, lovely, and delicious. When you walk through the doors you enter an atmosphere and ambience like no other. It was the perfect date/anniversary spot. It was like i was in a tropical rainforest with a little stream running through, and a pianist in the background. The food was amongst the best I’ve ever had. If my girl and I stick it out over the next 6 months it’s a place I’d come to to propose to her. Love this place.

My partner and I came for an anniversary and it absolutely amazing! The food is phenomenal and the meal plan they have is very worth it and for an anniversary a steal. The staff is so welcoming and sweet. The manager Russ is so nice and caring. Igor served us, as well as, Jack and they were welcoming and engaging. The place is absolutely beautiful as well. They host events and the ambiance is so different and romantic, I definitely would like to have an event here one day. Definitely worth a try, and I know I will be going back.

Ambiance was amazing, but the food was a little lacking, especially the dessert — we didn’t finish any of the dessert as it was that tasteless. Appetizers were good, soup was kind of sad looking, main course was okay, and desserts were pretty dull. Drinks were good. 4 stars overall because of the lovely atmosphere, though! The garden is so beautiful and it’s such a relaxing environment. I’d come back just for the ambiance and just get drinks.

We went on a Wednesday evening. The staff was friendly and attentive, which really makes all the difference in a dining experience. The food was wonderful. I love the thoughtful inclusion of locally sourced ingredients. The flavors were interesting and unique. The seating is nestled amongst a tranquil garden with water features. My wife and I came here for our 5th wedding anniversary and were blown away. The atmosphere was amazing as was the food. The setting is beautiful and intimate. We each got the 5 course meal so we were able to try 10 different things and everything was delicious. The butternut squash soup was the best soup I have ever had. Our host and server were very attentive and the service was outstanding. We had high expectations coming in and they were exceeded. We will definitely be coming back.

Food is more bland than wheat bread dipped in water. The cheesecake we had felt like it had been left in a cupboard for years. Not to mention the bathroom door has no lock... this restaurant tried to hide behind a fancy facade but it’s really just a bunch of bad ingredients badly cooked. The setting is relatively pretty, and our waitress was hospitable. The best part of the dining experience is the bread they serve at the start.

This is a great place for a romantic dinner or a celebration. The setting is incredible and very private if you ask to be seated on the other side of the bridge. Kathy, our waitress, was so helpful and friendly. The fish of the day with salmon and it was cooked perfectly on a bed of mashed potatoes and asparagus. Can’t wait to go back!

This is a magical little place. The cheapest/smallest menu option is a 3 course meal for $50. My significant other and I split one as we were not particularly hungry, but the food was phenomenal. Its a charming garden with whimsical decor all around; you can take walks through bamboo by ponds while you wait for your food. They alsobhave a bat/lounge with a piano. Its very artsy. Id definitely recommend this place.I had the pate, which is delightful, made of goose liver.We also split the salmon, which was fantastic. 👌For dessert, a flourless chocolate cake. I still drool thinking about it.

From the moment we entered, the staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. Russ, the host, was jovial and kind, making sure to set us up with a great table near running water and beautiful bamboo. When it came to ordering, they offer either a 5 course or 3 course meal, with lovely choices for appetizers, soups, entrees, and desserts. And as for wine, they have a wonderful selection. In fact, when we decided on a Malbec, it ended up that they were sold out of the one we selected, but Russ offered another more expensive bottle of Malbec, which he discounted to the price of the bottle we had requested. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes and wines. And she even had other great recommendations for things to see and do in Ojai while we were there for a getaway weekend. The grounds of the restaurant were also beautiful, including a vegetable garden from where they get some of the fresh veggies for their dishes. Wonderful experience all around, especially due to the warm staff who are happy to tell you all about the history of the place!

Planned an overnighter to explore somewhere new, Ojai. After many hours of research we chose to have dinner here based on the reviews for ambiance, food, etc. Reservations were made a month in advance for our much anticipated reunion. We arrive on a Sunday evening to beautiful gardens and white linen tableclothed tables nestled in gardens, bamboo backdrop and waterfalls. The manager wisked us to a table on the patio, no tablecloth, away from the gardens. I look around there are 7 tables occupied. I am very disappointed and tell the waitress I would greatly appreciate a nicer table in a better location. The manager comes over and offers another not so great table. I asked about the empty tables by the gardens, with tablecloths. He’s not budging. A busboy overhears this and says there’s a table next to the waterfall. I said that’s the table we would like. We are moved and it’s obvious the manager isn’t happy I’m not sure why except that were not “locals”. The waitress decides to proof my 30 year old daughter. Although the food was good (not excellent) it definitely dampened our evening. The manager could not even look at us the rest of night. Never mess with a Jersey girl. Russ Brunelli the GM and fellow Paisan should be made aware of how out of towners are treated. Your “manager” has stained your reputation and restaurant.

It is sad to put a one star review for such a beautiful place. I’m rating this one star hoping that the owners will read this and do something about the food. My friends recommended this place as a nice ambiance, good food, upscale restaurant to visit while visiting Ojai. My boyfriend and I went there last night. This place is beautiful, we sat in front of a water fountain outside, over looking beautiful bamboo trees. So if you want to visit this place go there, but don’t order food. The brough us nice looking bread and butter. The bread was salty and oily. We order pumpkin soup, arrived semi cold, tasted more like onion than pumpkin. I ordered seasonal vegetable salad. The salad was only two bites and noting tasty. I ordered lamb shank. I had to send it back as it was cold. After they brought back a warm one, the lamb shank had no flavor. It could have been a nice tasty dish, but it was just oily with no flavor. My boyfriend had another beef dish, same thing, no flavor and oily. We had coconut lime kiwi tart for desert, another failure. This place is so beautiful that it is sad to have such a disappointing food experience. I left thinking what a waste of space. This place has history, beautiful legacy and I hope that the owner can restore that in a near future by changing the menu or the chef.

The food was not good, the service was okay at best (lots of rushing and awkwardness) and the place was run down, not very clean and the attention to detail was sadly missing. Bathrooms were not clean or stocked. The hand soap was thinned with water which felt unsafe during Covid.We paid too much for an unenjoyable dining experience.Such a disappointment for us.

Although the service was attentive and friendly and the atmosphere charming, the food fell far below expectations, both with respect to flavour and ingredients, and it was incredibly basic for the price. I have been eating at the Ranch House for 17 years ever since I moved to Ojai. It has changed owners quite a bit over the years, but what I experienced last night was a deeply disappointing birthday dinner.The fish and the filet were OK but the combination of foods and flavors especially the sauces was terrible. This is not only my personal opinion but I went with five other people to this dinner last night and everybody felt the same way. There wasnt a single salad on the menu that contained actual greens. besides the disappointing taste the portions maybe thank God were very small and the food was not worth 50$ per person.I hope the menu and the taste of the food at the ranch house will improve very soon, because I love that place and it deserves people who do what they do because they love it with the highest skills. The staff was very nice! I wish the best to the Ranch House in Ojai yet I will not go there again any time soon and I cannot recommend it to anybody.

I love fancy places, but this places misses the mark. It tries. But falls short. Go to Ollivela instead. The first two courses were a bit clumsy and a bland. Main course was better, hubbys filet undercooked. Huge portions (but more doesn’t equal better). Atmosphere was the nicest part, but even that had negatives (ie rusty propane tank heaters are a bit of an eyesore).

This was one of the best meals we have eaten this year. The filet mignon was tender, and the pork chops had an amazing flavor. The lettuce wraps were excellent, the perfect start for our meal.The private bamboo rooms created the perfect romantic setting for our 20th wedding anniversary dinner.The only downside was that we could not eat two meals in one seating.

On ambience alone this secret spot is a fairytale winner. Dine in an indoor outdoor wonderland with fountains, bridges over koi fish ponds and a bamboo forest. Facts: Least expensive glass of Cab, $11.00. Least expensive bottle of wine, $60.00. We enjoyed mushroom streusel appetizer, $12.00, and shared a delicious duck and dirty rice with brocolini dish, $32.00. However, the waiter (actually the bar tender subbing as waiter) failed to give us a second plate, which we gladly would have paid for, which left us with a Ef you for sharing an entre feeling. Our tip reflected his lack of grace. All that said, the setting is lovely, especially the intimate outdoor private rooms, divided by dense bamboo. Very dry though, due to the prolonged drought, thus, we presume, no candles or flowers on tables. Difficult to see our meal. Recommendation: some kind of fireproof dim lights on tables and more grace shown to your customers, no matter whether we are spending a lot of a little. Even our modest meal came to over $80.00. Sad we were made to feel unappreciated. Just sayin....

My boyfriend and I found out from the locals that the restaurant is under new management only after having made reservation. We had reservations for 800pm and left by 900pm to look for another restaurant for the evening. Cold bread, frozen butter, and horrible appetizers that did not look edible was enough to ruin our appetite. Save yourself the time and go elsewhere!

It was a nice bday gesture from my son and the restaurant was really pretty but the food portion was a little bit small for me but we did have a good time and the wine was great also.I will go there for their brunch to see if its woth the drive.

I don’t often write bad reviews but I truly don’t understand the hype. We were really looking forward to this but the food was incredibly mediocre and very overpriced. To be avoided, there are far better and more charming places in Ojai.

I used to come here from time to time with my two “imo musumay” friends from UCSB. It’s pretty much the north-Southern California answer to Alice’s Restaurant, without the urban-hobbit flare. No, this is rural, to be sure. Sweet, organic, charming -- an earthy paradise of miner’s lettuce, fennel and dill. I recommend it highly!

I just went,there are new owners. They are sprucing up the place, and the food was amazing!! The setting is beautiful. Gardens, koi ponds, bamboo, and water fountains surround the tables. Go!
