I was sent one of those seemingly harmless letters from the CA FTB last year seeking information on a 4 year old tax return. After trying to communicate with the FTB, I was sent a demand letter for nearly $37K in taxes!I did not believe I had done anything wrong, yet I knew I needed someone who could cut through the bureaucracy of the CA FTB to help tell my story. I found Mr. Layton via a Google search, and after an extensive conversation about the facts, he took my case.After 6 months of working with the FTB, Mr. Layton presented my case in a thorough and professional manner. Eventually, the FTB agreed to a settlement that was for a tiny fraction of their initial $37K ask.Mr. Layton provided outstanding guidance to me regarding my case, the appeal process, and all the steps in between. I am very happy with the outcome of my case.And I am especially thankful for the great care for my case that Mr. Layton exhibited. I cannot recommend Daniel (and his paralegal Melissa) highly enough.The IRS sent us a notice from many years ago with incorrect accounting. I was terrified because the penalties were huge and this was from many years back.Daniel is extremely knowledgable. In a very efficient manner he collected all the required information and sent a challenge to the IRS.He knows the ins-and-out of the tax agency and knows whom to contact (exact individual) for specific appeals.Daniels work has saved me and my family undue amount of money, stress and headache.In addition to this specific issue, Daniel has helped me with tax issues with other years, including that with the FTB (CA tax board).I consider his services in the top-most of all professionals I work with in my business.Im Daniels lifelong client for anything related to IRS/FTB.

I contacted Daniel after I received a letter from the IRS that I was being audited. I was feeling very lost and overwhelmed with the prospect of an audit, the number of items the IRS was requesting and the short time frame to respond. Even though I had audit insurance from the business where I had my taxes prepared, I felt uneasy about their proposed approach and felt I needed a second opinion regarding my situation. I was impressed with Daniels credentials, education and experience and contacted Daniels office and was able to book a consult with him the next day. Daniel reviewed my audit letter, my documents and explained to me in detail the issues with my returns and what the IRS was questioning. He put together a detailed response addressing the IRS concerns and an index of the documents that addressed their concerns. My tax issue was favorably resolved thanks to Daniel. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone with a tax issue.

I am a physician and was currently in collections from the IRS because I mistakenly used a Turbo Tax Referral (TTR) Company that failed to accurately report the requested IRS information I had provide to the TTR Company.A close friend to me recommended I search for an attorney who had strong experience working for the IRS but also a strong academic background who not understood the regulations but the theory of law behind the regulations.I found 3 attorneys, made contact with all three, and settled on Daniel because of his professional experience, academic background, his highly professional interpersonal skills which allowed him to understand very quickly the predicament I was in and swiftly take actions to stop collections.Then as I was reading the IRS Regulations for the next 3 months, he recommend 2 professionals to prepare my tax returns, helped me hire a 35 year veteran IRS Supervisor to negotiate a temporary installment agreement, and activated the IRS Tax Advocate, at an extremely low cost which protected me financially until we were able to resolve the tax issues.After reviewing my information Daniel recommend an Audit Reconsideration as opposed to an Offer in Compromise which, in the end, 3 years later, ultimately saved me an absolute bundle.My work is to save peoples lives. I hired this law office to represent me before the California Franchise Tax Board. The FTB had decided to audit one of my state tax returns. Daniel Layton, the attorney that represented me, was fantastic! He was constantly in touch with me, letting me know of everything that was happening and making recommendations on how to proceed. I have hired other law firms where you never hear from anyone for months and theres no one to communicate with. But not here. I am relaying information about Layton & Lopez Tax attorneys for my boss who told me his story. Although he wanted to post himself, his status in the OC business community makes it that he could not advertise his financial situation in his name, just know that RWT is quite famous here in Orange County... But long story short, everyone at the firm of Layton & Lopez are true miracle workers.RWT had a bit above 2 million in tax liability. He went through 3 firms before being recommended to visit Layton & Lopez. The first three firms said they could not do anything. Not that I would know the feeling, but 2 million in back taxes is enough to make anyone worried about ending up in prison. That constant feeling of being overwhelmed and stressed as if you are walking with Damocles sword above your head is enough to make anyone go crazy.Fast forward a couple of months, when Daniel Layton and his team did exactly what others said would be impossible. RWT ended up paying $400,000 out of the $2,000,000 the IRS said he owed and he has now completely resolved his tax issues.I too have to deal with some tax issues (albeit much much smaller), and I know the feeling of constant pressure and anxiety that comes with having to deal with back taxes.
