Being from Nepal, I can say food was amazing and top notch. Veg thupka was so flavourful, the filling of the momos were yummy. The momo layer was thin and perfect. Service was pretty good too.

The food is freshly made. It’s Himalayan cuisine with some Indian and Chinese twist on their menu. We especially love the veggie korma as it’s creamy and not overly flavorful. The ambience of the place is cozy and relaxing. They also serve in-house alcohol drinks. Parking in the rear. It’s a little pricey for the portion, but the quality is good. Worth the try!

Entree does not come with rice. I’m ordering from the phone. It is really difficult to look at exactly and I should not assume. While standing there for 20 min waiting. The restaurant could ask if I wanted rice and I would pay for it. How the f eats curry without rice.

I can’t tell you guys how much I love this place.Our server was super nice and friendly.We visited last night coz we were craving some momos.We ordered chicken and veg thukpa, chicken and veg momos, chicken thaali and coz my friend she eats no spices and no barely any salt, so they made for her a special veggie item, which she did like.It looks like a family owned restaurant and the people were super nice.We ended up ordering 2 more plates of chicken momos and I ordered 2 more to go, their momos were so good..I’m certainly going there again soon.

A chill, elegant, quiet spot [even when filled with people] where I go to enjoy very well made chana masala, aloo gobi, aloo bodi tama and various bread items [papdum!] I tried the himalyan sangria, and it was flavorful with a high % of alcohol. The staff is gracious and welcoming. I observe that many people use the takeout too nowadays.

A wonderful place for hidden Himalayan gems. Likely the only place for chili yak and momo dumplings. The chilli yak was certainly the star of the show. Marinated full of flavor and cooked to fall apart rather easily, yak can be known to be tough. Lamb momo dumplings while tasty were served open and fallen apart, minus one star. The naan, fresh and hot. In fact everything came out hot, huge plus.A Yelp check-in will get you 15% off take out. Cash also doesnt get the 4% card extra charge.The service was fast. The atmosphere was rustic in a lovely inviting way.

After a long 8 hour drive from Reno to LA, we stopped by this Nepali restaurant to grab lunch. It had been a while since I ate momos so I was really excited. They had nice outdoor seating area. We ordered Chicken momo, chicken chowmein, chili chicken and thukpa. The gentleman working there recommended us to try their famous ‘Yak Chili’. At first I wasn’t sure how Yak meat tasted like but I really wanted to try it.Everything we tried was absolutely tasty but honestly the Yak Chili was the BESTTTT! The taste of the meat and spices were a perfect blend sautéed with crispy onions, bell pepper and you get a really nice taste of the garlic and ginger as well. We stopped by this place again before we headed back to Reno. 100% recommend trying it.

I tend to write reviews for restaurants with not only exceptional food but also great service and hospitality. Tara’s is one of them! We discovered it by chance and now it’s become staple, and we celebrate any special occasion at Tara’s too. I have had plenty of butter chicken in Asia and the in the UK, some of the best places known for it. Let me just say I finally found the best butter chicken here in LA! It’s prefect creamy curry and tender chicken that melts in your mouth. The next best dish on the menu is the Eggplant curry. It reminds me of how my aunt made it for us growing up. I almost teared up because it was that good and hit home for me. The rich flavors of eggplant cooked in onion base is simply divine, leaving you wanting more! We usually have these with rice and garlic naan. Their ginger lemon tea is homemade with freshly ground ginger with lemon and honey. Absolutely soothing and comforting. Tara’s feels like home and brings me back to the wonderful tastes from my childhood. Tara, whose restaurant is named after is sweet and she and her staff are always warm and welcoming. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a delicious meal and great service.

Authentic Tibetan chicken momo’s, including yummylicious sauce. They got best momo’s, traditional thukpa, traditional thali( good for 1 person). Must try this place, you got lot’s of veg options but veg momo’s are not that great. Mention your spice level, its nice hot. Staff is great and we were lucky to see owner who cooked few authentic dishes for us, nice family operated joint. Try it out !

Ive been a long time fan of Taras (have been coming for several years!) The service is always quick and friendly, theres a great selection of beverages including cocktails and beer, the decor is nice. But the real star is the food -- Im Assamese, so my familys traditional food is very close to Nepalese/Himalayan food, and I can absolutely attest to the fact that this is very authentic and DELICIOUS Himalayan cuisine! The momos and samosas are to die for (I even had them catered to a work DEI event that I planned, and the entire crowd loved them -- even had several people go out of their way to visit the restaurant after the event because of how good they were!) Im also partial to the garlic naan and butter chicken. Nepalese food is traditionally less spicy than the South or North Indian foods youd find at an Indian restaurant, so keep that in mind when ordering (e.g. I would usually order mild at an Indian restaurant, here I order medium or high spiciness). Also, Tara, the owner, is an absolute joy to work with both as a regular customer and as someone ordering catering services. She and her husband even hand delivered our catering order to the office. Couldnt recommend this place enough, eat local!!

One of the best restaurants in LA! Ive been coming here for over 15 years and it never disappoints. The Mahkani curry is the best Ive ever had. When I order this dish elsewhere, Im always sad because it isnt as good. The owner and staff are lovely and the dining room and outdoor seating space have a great ambiance. You could go here for any occasion. Truly a wonderful and special restaurant.

Haven’t come to Tara’s in over five years. Loved the food then, and still love it now. This time, I ordered the chicken momos (dumplings), Sherpa stew, and a mixed bbq platter to share with my sister. Needless to say, it was too much for the both of us so we had leftovers. Usually have great food when I dine in. However, I recently ordered take out and wouldnt recommend it. Showed up. Was told my food was not ready so I waited. Authentic Indian food. Went there twice in the last 7 days, Khasi ko Masu (Goat curry) is phenomenal! Combined with their super thin and buttery garlic naan, it’s a total party in your mouth. Recommend getting Chilli Chicken as appetiser.It’s a quaint little family run joint, be patient with their service because it’ll be totally worth the wait.

I was there today with my friends and we did order for dumpling, kachumber, aloo achar and chow chow. On aloo achar the first they gave it to me was nothing just the potato marinated and in photo I’ve got is second they give it to us after telling it was tasteless. In momo I expect fresh tomato achar but got staled one. I hope it was just for me today not for others.

Ive come here several times over the years and while Ive not had a bad meal here by any means Ive also never really felt wowd.The novelty wore off kind of quickly and I only come here when Im bringing someone who hasnt been before because Himalayan food isnt something you find very often.I dont super love or hate the food, though I am glad this exists and theyre doing well I just wish I could say the food was incredible too. It does feel adventurous so to speak to come the first time and eat something that says yak chili which was nothing like what I expected but also just...wasnt that yummy?

I can’t say enough good things about this place. My first order was chicken makhani and tried out the chicken saag another time. Both are absolutely delicious!! It’s a little pricier but worth it for fresh, healthy, food AND the chicken is tender and juicy!!! I’d rather pay a couple extra bucks for fresh ingredients and juicy, flavorful chicken. One of my favorite places now. Oh and it makes it so much more pleasant that the staff are the friendliest people ever! Thank you all- I’ve become a loyal customer.

Still by far the best Indian restaurant I’ve had in LA and Seattle after trying multiple different restaurants in both cities. Out of the 6 or 7 I’ve tried around LA so far, no other Indian restaurant has come even close to their quality and flavor. I recommend the vegetarian tikka massala. You won’t find a dish like that in any of the other restaurants I promise.. Super friendly staff. They even remembered me and what I like to order after just a couple visits! Parking is limited is my only complaint (few spots in the back or limited street parking) but that’s LA for you right?

Taras is cozy, inviting, and has a large and interesting menu. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, focused on the chicken dishes. Spices were well balanced and the meat was tender and flavorful. Two words - SUPER YUMMY! We ordered a few dishes and were worried we wouldnt be able to finish everything but suffice to say, our fears were unfounded -- the entrees didnt stay too long on their plates. After we were done and paid our check, we considered turning around for a second dinner as we were heading home but decided we should probably stick to our diet. We ordered the steamed Momo, Okra, Khasi Ko Masu (goat), Yak Chili and Jackfruit Curry. Everything was fresh. We were excited to try the Yak since weve never had it before and it didnt disappoint. Both the yak and goat were tender and succulent and bursting with flavor from the spices it was cooked in. I didnt think it was possible but the Okra dish converted me from an Okra-hater to an Okra-lover. I can eat the Momos all day - the dough wrapper melts in your mouth revealing the tasty morsel within it. On top of the great food, prices were reasonable, service and ambiance were welcoming and inviting! I never thought food could make you this happy but I can attest that it does! :)

Man this place was the bomb. Got the Lamb Korma and it was amazing. Curry was thick and flavorful. I like spicy and spicy level 8 was nothing so Id probably get 10 next time. My only gripe was the price. As good as it was i dont believe that was a $20 entree. $15 sure. But for $20 I shouldve gotten a little more. But besides that cant recommend enough. Will try the Yak Chili next time.

It is delicious but highly overpriced for what you get portion wise. The quality is good but the food tastes like Indian food. I havent had Nepalese food so Im not sure if that is authentic. The main problem was portion of the food and price.Rice is not included and you should pay $3 for a small cup of rice or 4 small piece of bread. One food + rice + tip costs me over $40.

Veg Momo was delicious. I love it. But Chana sadeko was big no for me. It was more like salad. Big disappointment. And veg chowmin was also big no. Chowmin was more like Italian spaghetti. They should know these are two different food. To make Chana sadeko I would suggest them to watch proper Nepali YouTube video and improve it know what it looks and taste like.

Finding a parking place is a real issue. Most of the old reviews not applicable any more. I am little surprised how the restaurant got a so high number of reviews and showing high regards. We drove 45 minutes just for this authentic Himalayan Cuisine. With so many flavors and spices and options to choose from it was an experience I will be repeating often. Oh my goodness have the momo. Delicious little dumplings, and the sauce is to die for. And their yak chili!! Goodness I didnt even know I liked yak. Its like a slightly tougher stewed beef texture, and the spices are absolutely delicious. The cherry on top is that not only are all their spices sourced directly and sustainable from the Himalayan mountains, they donate a portion of their revenue to education of young girls in that area. This cuisine has obvious influences and some dishes from India and South East Asia but with its own unique style.My favorite is the Thukpa Sherpa stew which I think is specifically Himalayan food and is red and spicy. Taras is across the street from my dentist and is always a must stop after. I have only eaten here in Covid times, and I feel super comfortable doing so. The chana masala and aloo gobi are fantastic but I live for the daal. Taras continues to be a solid choice for some authentic Himalayan cuisine (aside from the chicken tikka masala and some of the other entrees). The goat curry with bone (Khasi Ko Masu) was delicious. The thick curry with very little oil and likely no dairy reminded me of a home cooked meal. If youre getting it medium spicy, youll feel the heat, so get the plain sweet lassi on the side, which I found to be delicious and unlike most other lassi youll see elsewhere. Youll definitely want the naan to go with the Khasi Ko Masu. The service can be a little slow for a Friday night, but youll leave a happy camper. Parking is impossible in the area, but after your delicious meal, youll forget the rage you walked in with.

I got there after 30 minutes, as soon as I reached; the lady brought the check and got the payment. Visited this place with my son for afternoon meal and had vegetable momos. The taste of momos were bit flat as per Nepali standard, it may be because their target customers are primarily locals not Nepalese. The ambience was great and the walls were decorated with traditional Nepali wooden windows and masks.

Street parking with small turn-in lot; good food with older decor and low-light inside. Ordered Yak Chili with double meat and got a huge portion! Great spice and flavor.

This place is one of the best restaurants in all of Culver city. Couple that with the fact that its one of the only, if not the only himalayan restaurants in all of LA. You can see why people love it. Dont really need to talk about the food much as its been reviewed by Jonathan gold and other famous food critics so you can check out their professional reviews for a good idea of the food. Pretty much if you like indian food or any thai/chinese youll more then kiley love this place. Food tip get the lamb korma and the yak chili (its not that type of texas chili).

The food was good. It had a nice twist spice-wise on Indian food, such as their Saag Paneer and Chicken Tikka Masala. The front dining area is outside and, while on a busy street, was fairly quiet and secluded since it is mostly enclosed by plants. Service was good. Will definitely return to this place.

Better than most Nepali restaurants around. I usually get the chicken momo and they have Mustang beer! The atmosphere is nice as well with a Nepali feel to it. Definitely worth trying.

Im from Colorado and we were looking for a good Indian food restaurant. Taras got good reviews so we tried it. Very happy we did,. The food Was very good and the service was very personal. Chicken Tika masala, was great. We will make this a regular stop when we are in town.

I was born in India. This is the only Indian restaurant I go to in LA. Most people try their yak, but I would recommend any of their meat curry dishes, like makhani or korma. Also their cheese naan. Other places do cheese naan, but no one does it quite like this.

Really liked the sauce used with the papadum crackers served before the meal, better than the sauces you get at Indian restaurants for the same.The steamed chicken momo dumplings were delicious, with really good wrapping.The pokhareli chicken was fantastic, I just loved the flavor of the sauce.The chicken khorma was tasty, like a chicken curry.The saag paneer was much like what youd find at an Indian restaurant, as were the naan.

The momos were great. We asked for spicy food for entrees because we eat really spicy food... But the food was just raw uncooked spice... It did taste good but just waaay too hot... Make sure you ask for little spice.

There are not many Nepalese restaurants in LA. Despite the lack of competition, Taras food is really good. The momos are just as good as anything in Kathmandu and the yak chili is fantastic!

Looooooove Taras. My place of employment, friends, and family frequent this place. We have great customer service when calling in, picking up, getting delivery, and dining in. Their Tikka Masala, cheese naan, and lamb saag are some of my favorites. If you are a spice fanatic ask for Level 10, its a great slow burn!
