I moved to California two years ago to train at Subconscious BJJ. My Jiu Jitsu journey introduced me to school director Nicholas Gregoriades. When we met, he invited me along with my training partners to, if in California stop by for a class. Intentionally I moved to LA to train with Nic (knowing his brother Jason) and also gym owner Brent Burniston. Best thing I ever did. A week after arriving I reached out to Brent, attended my first class and it’s felt like home ever since. I love the saying, enter for the Jiu Jitsu and stay for the community. The quality of people and the level of training is the best I’ve experienced.Absolutely World Class!

Did two drop-ins at Subconscious while I was visiting LA and both were great experiences! Everyone was very welcoming, respectful, and friendly. I took classes from Brent and Tim and they were jam packed with high-level details that Im definitely adding to my jiu jutsu repertoire. Classes are a mixture of instruction, positional sparring, and more live training at the end. I will definitely be coming back when Im in town! Highly recommended.

The training and instruction is second to none. The teachers are true experts of the craft and they guide every student and instruct them at their own pace and skill level with class and kindness. Brent, the head coach and owner is truly one of the most kind and gifted teachers, and a terrific BJJ player. There is a strong culture at the school, not only of martial arts but of family. There’s no ego, to brooding, none of that. All of the coaches instruction is world class, in most cases, literally. From some of the most elite BJJ players, commentators, and all around world champions, Subconscious provides one of the most conducive environments to learn. Subconscious holds some of the most exclusive seminars with opportunities to learn from some of the greatest names in BJJ: Roger Gracie, Gordon Ryan, Kit Dale, the list goes on. On top of that, there’s the annual Joshua Tree trips and access to all the affiliate schools. Subconscious, In my opinion, is one of the best and strongest academy’s out, certainly the best in Los Angeles.

Our two kids have been training here for going on two years. Incredibly thankful for their entire team. Wish we had started sooner. If you were thinking about enrolling your kids DO IT. Their kids teachers are amazing!

What can I say? A perfect mix of high level instructors and students combined with an amazing environment. Its not just a place to go have a transactional teaching experience. These guys are friends who have helped me learn so much about jiu-jitsu and life. If you are looking for a place to train, trying out Subconscious BJJ is a no-brainer. Do it! You will see what I mean.

I purchased a membership as a birthday gift to myself, and its the gift that hasnt stopped giving! First of all, they offer a free trial class and loan you a Gi to practice in, all free of charge. Every professor/ instructor is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and they are all great at answering questions and helping you with your technique. The community of students is extremely supportive and helpful, and its the perfect mix of challenging each other, teaching one another, and support. The support and the community is extremely inviting, and will keep you coming back and wanting to learn more. The experience of the staff and students is unmatched, and you will love the community and team atmosphere. Try the trial course, you wont regret it!

Amazing first experience. Dropped in for a trial class, and I might be hooked. Instructors were attentive, experienced, with that mentor vibe that really makes a training environment a positive one. At 44, I am glad I gave it a go, and “rolled” for the first time.

My new academy, my new home...what an amazing place and I am so happy to be a part of this family.I met the owner/head instructor Brent a while before I first started training here and I had wished I came to this academy sooner. Brent is a great guy, an excellent instructor, and really cares and supports all the students from white belt all the way to black belts. He has also created a welcoming and positive training atmosphere where everyone supports each other on and off the mats and it really shows. The other instructors here are also incredible as they are very technical and knowledgeable.The academy is clean, has free when available and paid street meter parking in both the front and rear of academy, and offer beginner and advanced classes in both the Gi (traditional outfit you wear with a belt) and No-Gi (more athletic type clothing) for both men and women.They also have a great kids program here with an amazing head instructor who really instills the foundations of respect and discipline of being part of a martial art such as jiu-jitsu.Come by to try a free class and make one of the best decisions of your life, you will not regret it.

Welcoming gym, tough rolls, great instruction.I dropped-in for two days when I was in town for IBJJF Worlds at the beginning of June 2022. I did a Gi open mat and an all-levels Gi class the next day. Professor Brent Burniston is a solid instructor who seems to care about the success of his students. He demonstrated this by giving us some words of advice regarding competing at different belt levels and the importance of challenging yourself through competition.I highly recommend this gym!

I started Jiu-Jitsu at Subconscious BJJ with 0 experience. I didnt even know how to tie a Gi belt :) The instructors and students were really nice and welcoming. Now it has been almost 4 month and I really like it here. Great place with great people. The place is very welcoming with great atmosphere.If you are new to BJJ and looking for great place to start, you are not going to be disappointed at Subconscious BJJ

As a third degree black belt who has been traveling the world teaching jiu jitsu for almost 20 years, Ive pretty much seen it all when it comes to jiu jitsu academies. Some are good, some are terrible and some are truly exceptional. I can say in all honesty that Subconscious is one of the very best academies Ive been to. Theres a wonderful welcoming atmosphere here and there are no attitudes among the students or staff (which is something I see more and more often at BJJ schools). Also, the owner Brent is a truly world class instructor who really cares about his students and treats them like family. You could go to a bigger gym with a more famous coach and be treated like a number, or you could go to Subconscious and get exceptional instruction and become part of an amazing community. Your choice.

I tried free classes a multiple BJJ gyms in the NoHo Arts District area, and chose this one. I couldnt be happier with my decision. The people here are very easy going and willing to teach you while youre sparring. People are happy to be there and train and it makes for a great learning environment. The instruction is also top notch. High recommended.

This is definitely one of the best places you will find to learn BJJ. There is a good variety of people to train with. You will find good training partners whether you are brand new to the sport, or if you have been training for years. On top of that, everyone is super friendly, so come try a class!

I have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for several years and many of those years has been along side professor Brent Burniston the owner and instructor of Subconscious BJJ. The school is a friendly learning environment for all levels. The Real Deal! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with world class instruction. The Professor, Brent is an amazing coach and well versed in all things fighting. With occasional guest instructors and wide variety of training partners, you can’t go wrong. A very welcoming school and great people to train with. I knew the second I walked through the doors that this was a place / group of people that Id want to be around. From the welcoming energy to the diverse group of people who train here, youd know just based on these elements, if youd hadnt met the owner Brent, that he must be a pretty awesome person. Luckily for me, since he was my first point of contact when I called and went in, I got to experience his great energy immediately.I previously had some martial arts training throughout most of my teen years, but havent trained for a Loooong while. So it was important that I found a place whos instructors and overall vibe felt right. Its one thing to train, another thing to reach such high levels of achievement in an equally mental/physically tough art form that demands that you work for and earn it at every level, but then to teach it is a true testament of ones ability. Brent and the instructors at Subconscious BJJ take their time to break exercises down so that anyone from a first-timer to a more advanced practitioner can grasp them. They also see that everyone is getting some one-on-one coaching during exercise to assure they are being executed effectively.With the continual rise of the UFC / MMA over the years (specifically BJJ due to its actual effectiveness) many still view martial arts and the people involved as a violent and aggressive; but it truly is not. You will interact with some of the most affectionate/compassionate people in these circles. So, for anyone thinking of training, definitely come train here. The team is kind, respectful, fun, and truly about building community.

Subconscious is a great place to train jiu jitsu. I started there back in June of last year and since then my game has advanced tremendously. Brent is a teacher who KNOWS jiu jitsu and because of that, he can explain and break down moves and movement to where you understand the purpose of the movement. Everyone there made me feel comfortable when I walked in and have felt comfortable since.
