I have owned four BMW cars over the past 27 years. I have been using German Motor Specialists as my go to shop which is now Stress-Free Auto. They are excellent in service and quality and I highly recommend the Mountain View Shop. Better customer service and pricing than the dealerships. I now have a BMW 2016 428i Grande Coupe, I only trust their shop for all my maintenance needs. I have been working with Paul over these many years, excellent service advisor!!

To fix a rare and special problem I needed a special solution. It took a few months to get the part from Germany, but a brand new tire rim was installed on my X1 to fix a hard to find leak. The new rim made the problem go away. Wes from Stress Free researched the part from the VIN number and the whole affair was flawless and low stress. And I got a good deal on the part cost and final bill. I’m very happy about the results. STILL a great place to fix your German auto.

I came looking here after getting scammed at a dealership for outrageous pricing and shady practices. I can say Stress-Free Auto Care has integrity and value when it comes to their customers. I was given upfront what the cost for my service was and the process was easy and flexible to schedule. They responded quickly and were able to work with my busy schedule. The inspection was thorough and I was given detailed information about what was suggested (but not required) in terms of additional service. They prioritized my vehicle when I gave them practically the whole day to work on it and I was able to get it back within 2 hours, saving me the cost to Uber to an appointment. They also work with Costco for the 15% reduced cost and were very professional. Their pricing was also very justified and fair. Overall exceptional work, would go here again for larger services beyond an oil change.

I had a lovely time at stress free. The staff were professional and helpful. When I came in expecting a simple valve gasket cover leak and was informed it was a full blown head gasket, Wes and the team took good care of my vehicle and encouraged me to look elsewhere for repairs. The staff was extremely trust worthy and I appreciated them immensely.

Stress free is right. I brought my Honda Civic in for a wheel alignment after getting their discount coupon in the mail. I had forgotten it at home but remembered the code. Per their policy, they need the physical coupon, but thankfully the gentleman who helped me (unfortunately I forgot his name) still honored it.My car was serviced quicker than anticipated, and the explainer was easy to understand. Highly recommend.

This was my first service with Stress-Free. The service was exceptionally great. The GM Wes and service adviser Paul were super nice to deal with the customers comparing with many other similar shops in the industry. The workshop is also exceptionally clean and in order. The technicians looked very professional and the result of work was excellent. Overall, I was very much satisfied with the service I got and strongly recommended this shop for auto care. For sure, I will be back in the future.

First time taking my 2017 MINI Countryman to somewhere other than the MINI dealership and was very happy with the work done by Stress-Free Auto Care. I needed 50k mile service, so a multi-point inspection and some fluids exchanged. Dropped off the car in the morning at 8am, was provided with real-time updates and actual pictures of things that were being inspected during the day (brakes, tires, etc) and then picked up my car by around 2pm. I was very happy with the whole experience and will definitely be bringing my MINI back for oil changes and future service needs. Thank you Stress-Free Auto Care!

After going to the dealership and getting subpar customer service and lots of difficult scheduling, I have found that Stress-free auto care lives up to their name. They offer Lyft rides (within a limit), easy text payments and invoices, and easy to schedule appointments. I also know exactly what needs to be serviced and what has been done. Very happy with this repair shop for my regular maintenance and all things for my Volvo XC90.

Scam. Made an early morning appt 5 days in advance for simple work. They said car would be ready in half a day, but waited until 1:00 to even begin working on the car. Called after 4:00PM to tell me they would need to keep for a week and was not done with the estimate. However the estimate had already reached half the value of car’s worth ($kkk; for air cond coolant and brakes) and was still rising haha! What a joke and complete waste/disrespect of my time. Please do not be conned out of a few hundreds dollars with nothing to show for it! Also- smaller complaint, but I was offered transportation.. however that was only one way. I was told I would be charged more or needed to find my own way back! Real class acts..

Update:After they saw my previous review about the replaced new brakes were worse than my old brakes, Paul called me and said they can take a look at the brakes again and try to fix the problem. So we made an appointment for this morning and he said a loaner car would be reserved for me. This morning I went to the office, Paul is off today, a young guy was sitting at Pauls cube and said he doesnt have any loaner car for me. Obviously the young guy gave the loaner car which was supposed to be reserved for me to somebody else. I said I need a loaner car, and he said he can call me back later. Excuse me? My place is not like two steps away from the office, it took me more than 1 hour to drive back and forth. And its not like my time can be wasted freely. Everybodys time is extremely valuable, as it is the essence of ones life and for me, I have a multitude of tasks to accomplish each day. This guy doesnt value or respect customers time at all! And he thinks this is ok as the whole process he didnt apologize for the mess at all...And, for the brakes, the young guy said, they can check the brakes again, if its brakes issue they wont charge again, but if its other issues they will charge... How can it be other issues? They checked my car last time before and after they replaced the brakes and rotors, unless they make something broken, I cant imagine therell be other issue found by just checking the brakes?Ive been their customers since 2016, at that time they were still called german motor vehicle, then they were acquired by stress free auto care several years earlier. I wouldnt say their service were super super good before pandemic but I was satisfied. However this time Im so disappointed and I think Ill be hesitated to take my car there as Im concerned something may be broken or may not be fixed the right way.----------------------------They were able to find the root cause of my car’s issue, and replaced the parts they thought have issues, however, for the parts that they replaced, I can see they’re different from my original parts, especially the brakes, now my foot needs to press really hard for the car to stop, and the car shakes when I press the brakes, it’s even not as good as before the brakes and rotors were replaced…and the “new” rear rotors, I can see there’s something looks like rust there…For other parts it may be not that bad to have non genuine non authentic ones(even though they said they replaced with the bmw authentic parts and charged based on that), brakes are very important for a car, I paid almost $1000 for that and now I’m worried my car may not be able to stop when it should be…

I highly recommend this place to anyone needing automotive work. I had to get my completely un-driveable car towed here, I had never heard of the shop and was hoping it would work out okay, and I’m so thankful I wound up here.They were very clear throughout the whole process of inspection and service. I got updates throughout. They have an inspection system where the customer can see the list of points with photos and notes of what’s wrong. We had to wait a while for parts and they provided me with a loaner almost immediately for nearly two weeks.Every time I spoke to someone or needed to come in, even when it was someone different I’d see in the shop, they were always expecting me, knew who I was, and what needed to be done without me saying anything.Highest level of professionalism, courtesy, and work. I would come back and recommend to anyone.

I had to pay $650 and then again $830 to get my headlights fixed for lexus is200t. The pricing for the parts is on the higher end for after market parts. They should either have better pricing for parts. You shouldnt charge 3x the price what is present on Amazon or O reilly auto parts.

These folks are wonderful. I have used them several times over the years to repair my (loved) 2001 Audi TT Quatro Roadster and keep it in good shape. They are friendly, dependable, knowledgeable, extremely capable and reasonably priced. They do excellent work efficiently and with no fuss. The most recent episode with them was a drop-in quick diagnosis and repair (topping up the hydraulic power steering reservoir) for which they refused any payment. Generous, in addition to the rest. Highly recommended!

Generally very high marks. Nice touch to provide ride service after dropping car off. They honored the repair pal estimate which was very good. They do make a good effort to keep you up to date with texts and emails. They appeared to perform the repairs appropriately. Only slight mix up was hiccups of their internal communications causing unnecessary delays in finishing work on the car. Paul who was our contact in the service department did his best to overcome this delay. Overall happy with care and service and would definitely recommend.

This is my second time using Stress-Free Auto and it was as good a service as the first time. I had to replace all tires on my Audi and while I could have gone to a regular tire place, frankly I got a very fair price on tires from Stress-Free and I trusted that they did the work well. My last experience with a dedicated tire shop on our other car didnt go well - TPMS wasnt reset so 10 minutes after leaving the shop Im getting tire pressure warnings, tires were inflated to 36psi all around rather than the 30/33 on the door label and when I asked they said its OK and that was all the explanation. Stress-Free answers your questions and understands you care about your car. Ill keep coming back

Stress Free has been performing repairs & maintenance on our BMW 3 series cars for years. We are extremely satisfied. Recently one car had multiple coolant leaks that required a lot of investigation. They did the work in a timely manner & at a very fair price. What sets them apart from other facilities is their communication. They clearly explained the problem & showed me a 3D image of the engine & transmission so I could see what had failed & needed replacement.

I cannot express just how over the top wonderful this team is! I live in South Tahoe, but I will gladly drive 440 miles round-trip to get my X5s check-ups! They are WILDLY accommodating when my drive plans suddenly change. Paul is so thorough with the reviews -- before, during and at pick-up -- that I almost understand everything that is being done...mostly. its like a doctor explaining a complex medical procedure, and add detailed video of everything. There are 2 parts of this review 9/1 and 6/17. One for their manger Rhett and One for My experience with James at Mountain View:6/17 Review: I came in for a normal oil change and ended up with over 10K suggestions of services with my 67K miles car which was just serviced a year ago. I somehow was assigned with this service manager, James. As a female driver not knowing so much about the car. There is a difference between the car professional people telling me what is necessary to be fixed right away and being led along of 10K + of services that are not necessary yet. I consulted their suggestions with another professional and many of the services were not necessary yet. When I confronted with James, he did nothing but to defend himself. Worst yet, when I felt that the trust were gone, I called him 8am in the morning when the shop first open to cancel my services, he told me that the my transmission oil and engine oil were drained out already yesterday unless I want my car to be towed. Last but not least, they dont charge for real hours that they work on. Instead, they charge you by a lump sum: $500 labor to change sparks and $500 labor to change transmission oil. When I asked him about it, he said that is most of the car services companies do rather than go with what is the best practice.9/1: About 2 weeks later after the service, my engine light was on. Since the trust was gone with Stress Free, I took it to my trusted mechanic at San Jose. Original he thought it was emission problem and order the part, I had to leave my car at the shop for 4 days. As he was double checking, he found out that the engine ground wire and coil was loose and he asked me who serviced my car previously?!!!! (Stress Free MV). So I explained the situation by calling in. Paul was incredibly patience listened me out and encouraged me to communicate. So, I reached out to Rhett Whitehill and explained the situation. He asked me to send all the receipts which I did. He then said that they had warranty service, which again no body ever explained to me. I simply asked him to reimburse me the cost of my time, part of the poor services that they did and the cost of fixing engine light on problem. And I will be happy to revisit my review. OMG, he then said that he feels that he is bribed by my reviews. I cant believe this. I have extremely busy schedule and I am doing with my precious time simply for JUSTICE and hoping people will take their services seriously with GOOD WILL and taking Accountability, rather, I am met nothing but defensiveness, delay of time, and insult.

The Mercedes dealer was trying to charge 1700 for brake pad and rotor replacement on my Mercedes gle, stress free was able to offer same service with warranty and OEM parts for half that. They offered an itemized receipt, and applied new customer discount without me asking if there was one. My Partner went into Stress-Free due to the positive google reviews. However she had a different experience all together.She brought her car in for a simple oil change, but received a list of items they aggressively pushed to get serviced, that added up to $10,000 in repair costs. When asked how necessary they were, she felt pressured by the sales agent that all the suggestions were really needed and her safety was in danger if she didnt get them all fixed. Being a female who doesnt know a lot about cars, after that sales conversation, she believed that if she didnt spend the $10,000 in repairs, that she would be in danger to drive the car and left the car with them to take a Uber home.Later that afternoon, we took the estimate to another shop and they clearly outlined what items she would want to address sooner vs later and that non of the issues listed by Stress-Free were dire or urgent to her safety.So when she called Stress Free back to cancel the repairs (as she felt her trust had been abused), they were argumentative, insulting, and belittling. They told her they had already started working on her car and that she would need it towed to get it back home. The funny thing is that it wasnt until 90 minutes after that phone call, that she got a text message from Stress Free saying that they JUST STARTED working on her car. (Smell fishy yet?)When you add up all of their actions and behaviors, no customer would feel safe or trusting to leave their car with Stress Free. The up-sale techniques and literally frightening a unknowledgeable female into spending $10,000 when she brought the car in for a simple oil change is just plain pathetic. Staff here are worried more about their pocketbook than running a honest business. Believe us, that this shop is anything other than stress-free. STEER CLEAR of Stress Free, otherwise dont say we didnt warn you.

I got a flat this past Tuesday and my tire pressure warning light came on while driving on San Antonio Road in between work and home. I checked the tire and realized I could probably make it a few more minutes but needed to find a repair location close by. I had previously brought my car into the Stress-Free Auto Care location on El Camino Real in Menlo Park when the light came on and had no tire or pressure issues and the car had been reset for free so I felt great returning. I dropped off my car, the charges were explained up front and took a courtesy Lyft the rest of the way home. Stress Free found a nail in the tire and patched in up and also fully inspected my vehicle so I felt reassured that nothing else was in urgent need of repair. I was able to walk and pick up my car the next day and was grateful for all of the clear communication and the photos included in the inspection so I could see exactly where the tire was punctured and that the rest of the vehicle was completely fine!

I have been taking my Mini Cooper to Stress Free Auto Care in Mountain View since their name was still German motor specialist. When it comes to car problems, I am often clueless, so taking my car for service was always stressful until I found this place. I always have a great experience. It is SO nice to have a place that I can trust. I know so because when I took my car to a mini dealer, their total estimate was over 3000. That’s when I found German motor specialist. They had great reviews on yelp so I made an appointment, and they fixed everything plus something the dealer did not include for half their quote, and my 2015 mini is still running great. Had a great experience with Paul and staff at Stress-Free Auto Care. I went in to get an inspection of my cars brakes since I noticed a creaking noise coming from one of my rear wheels when I braked lightly. They gave me a thorough inspection of my brakes and other parts of my car and compiled everything that was in good condition and things that needed future attention in a detailed report with pictures. Everything was handled professionally; very pleased with the service!

I am bringing my BMW 435i for almost 3 years at Stress-Free Auto Care / German Motor Specialist for maintenance, excellent service experience for technical knowledge and communication. I am also happy to report that I recently had the EPS steering thrust piece repair kit installed, to fix a knocking noise from the steering wheel when the car is idle and moving the steering quickly. My 435i feels now very solid and the steering very smooth, better than 5 year ago when I bought at BMW under CPO warranty (and the dealer was keep convincing me that was a characteristic of the f30/f32).

My BMW recently came off of warranty and needs a 60k service. Paul was very prompt with communication and it really helps that they have the ability to see all my previous service records at the dealership. Very impressed by their honesty, pricing, quality work and service. Texts of the appointment, diagnostic findings, on the progress of the repairs and notice of completion. Appreciate Paul’s experience, honesty and suggestion on signs to watch for for the upcoming but not urgent items. Glad they kept the employees from when they were independently owned German Motor days (though not all due to the pandemic). Side item- very clean and spacious premises; although I didn’t use it, there is a waiting room. They also have a lock box for drop off/pick up after hours. Glad I found them and don’t have to take my chances of new inexperienced techs at the over-priced dealership anymore. Thanks Paul and your team!

This place was by far the most relaxing and truly “stress-free” shop ever. Paul is so sweet and kept me updated as they fixed my car. She also sent me notifications over email and text so I was well informed about what steps they were taking with my car. Remarkable experience. Paul was courteous and was detailed with his recommendations. Because my vehicle had low miles, he said there were some items which were not necessary to service or replace. This is an old review that I forgot to submit. But I took in an Infiniti G35x for brake and rotor work. The original service advisor was cool but then it switched to someone else—Roberto I think? Everytime I talked to him the price kept going up. I just ended up going to Shoreline Auto who felt way more trustworthy and who completed the job perfectly for half the price. After Shoreline Auto compeleted the job I drove my car to Michigan and back with no problems— I recommend you check them out.

Visit #1: They replaced my brake rotors, pads, and fluid. They also inspected some oil seepage in the engine area. After the work was done I was informed where the seepage was coming from, and that it did not require immediate attention. Rather I was supposed to have it inspected regularly and they could fix one of them when I have my timing chain replaced. The others we could keep on eye on. They sent me text messages throughout the day letting me know of the progress, and sent me digital pictures that I could review from home along with the service report. The price was exactly as estimated and they assisted me with getting a Lyft ride back to my house. I have used this business before and they have always provided excellent service.Update: 11/21/2022Visit #2: I had a timing chain tensioner inspection since my car is getting close to 120K miles. I needed this done before planning a long road trip. They scheduled the appointment and offered to do it while I waited. The news was good and I had lots of room left for the tensioner to expand (indicating the chain hadnt stretched too much yet). They also gave a good inspection of the rest of the car and got my tire pressures to spec (no charge). Its great knowing this place does such good service and treats me fair and respectfully. Ill be able to keep my car much longer with this kind of service to rely on.Update: 3/24/2023Visit #3: Another service appointment, this time I requested an oil change, spark plugs, new radiator fluid, and an overall inspection since I had another upcoming road trip. They got to work and in about 90 minutes sent me an email with a link to the technicians notes. The pictures showed my prior oil seepage was no longer seepage, but a full blown oil leak. I know a bit about engines and I could tell from the pictures they were not exaggerating. I needed the valve cover and the timing cover removed and resealed. They also tested the brake fluid and found it needed to be flushed and replaced.Its never a good feeling finding out my car needs work like this, but its understandable given its age and mileage. I authorized the added work, and agreed to the added time. They worked on it non stop and it was ready the next day. My service representative, James, also gave me a nice break on the total cost since a lot of the work was on an engine already opened up. When I came in to pay for all the work, the total was less they estimated. That was a relief. Last...even though I didnt think the car was running rough previously, it is noticeably smoother now.Im glad I can keep my 12 year old 2011 Audi A4 for a few more years. Having these guys keeping regularly inspect my car is what makes this possible....TLDR...still 5 stars

These guys are awesome! Exactly what car maintenance should be like; they send text updates every step of the way and upload an online report for your vehicle complete with pictures! Paul is a professional thru and thru. He gives tips on what caused certain issues and ways to prevent it from happening in the future. He also doesnt pressure you into service thats not needed at the time.Theyre also willing to install customer-provided parts, so if you want to replace some flimsy BMW plastic part with an aftermarket metal one, this is the place to do it! However, @ 164K miles it experienced a timing chain guide failure. If you Google this mechanical issue you find a complex repair is required; between 18 and 30 hours of labor.Faced with the choice to scrap or keep the car, I turned to the most trusted BMW service shop in the Bay area. It turns out that the actual fault was caused by a failed key fob battery resulting in the ignition lockout. When it became apparent that a $3 battery was the culprit leading to an expensive repair, GMS made it right and reversed the charge for the repair. That absolutely sold me on their honesty and their willingness to own their first-class customer service reputation!!!4. Just a sidebar: The service area presents like a operating room theater. Tools, bays, equipment are well organized. The space is well lit and the floors are white, clean and free of any fluids/debris. The shops aesthetics are definitely German. The technicians on the floor all have a pedigree w/ long-standing and current certifications on BMW and other luxury vehicles.

This place is great, I came here to get an independent inspection done on a CPO car I had just purchased. They caught a major issue that the dealership somehow missed in their 300 pt inspection, I took it back for a free repair and avoided what wouldve been some serious damage down the line. Super professional and knowledgable and really seem to have the customer in mind.I live in Los Altos but actually got a referral from a friend of brother who lives on the east coast so these guys have quite a good reputation. Have been taking my 2011 335is to GMS for a couple years now. I bought the car used 3.5 years ago and it seemed ok -- that is until a number of systems started failing as I approached 100K. GMS got the car back into full health, always explaining (with video) what/where the problem is and documenting what they do.My service advisor is Jason and hes been great at explaining my options in detail, what repairs need to be done ASAP, and which ones can wait. I like that GMS is well hooked into BMW and dealers, so they know about recalls and part lead times, etc.Very much a fan of the place. Also very much appreciate their shuttle service, too.

I was having a re-occurring problem with my car and was in and out of various car repair shops for 6 years. I didn’t drive the car much because it was a low mileage car so I would pick it up and drive it home where it would sit covered. I was talking with Yinon, a principal with Stress Free Auto Care (German Motor Specialist) and he mentioned having them take a look and was confident they could find a cure. After running many diagnostic exams, they located the problem and it was quite a relief. This particular car is rare GT2 Porsche. GMS service is the best. They are friendly, professional, thorough and they always go above and beyond. They once gave me info on a BMW recall and suggested I would be better off getting the work done at the dealer (saving me >$1200 if the recall work was done by a dealer). BMW of MV denied my vehicle needed the work and couldnt find any info on TWO recalls - GMS pointed me to the docs, info on my specific car needing it, and finally after pointing this out BMW of MV they did the work. This reminded me exactly why I didnt like using BMW of MV (I switched to Stevens Creek during my service contract). As soon as my service my contract ran out at a dealer I went to GMS. I recommend them highly.

When my 2009 BMW developed strange noises from the engine on the way to work one day, I had to look for a reputable shop in the area which specializes in these types of cars and could diagnose and fix the problem properly. So I went with GMS and was not disappointed. The repair was not cheap because it required taking part of the engine apart for VANOS replacement but Paul worked with me to minimize the expenses and help with rental car costs while repairs were going on. Ive also visited the work area and was amazed at how clean and professional it looked. True dealer-like experience for significantly less cost. Highly recommend GMS for those of us who cant rely on dealer warranty to take care of the repairs. A+

Friendly staff, diagnostics are very thorough. They send you a text image of any problems the mechanic might find. They did recommend to replace a drive belt, so I took it to the dealership at Mt view, but the dealership said the belt is fine. Im not coming back here.

He would not honor at all the warranty issued by the previous owner. Ive been very happy with the service received here but my wife recently received a quote for standard break service and found that German Motor Specialist was charging 20% over MSRP for all the parts included in the quote. This is unacceptable fraud. Repair shops receive a discount from Audi on parts. To not pass that discount on to customers is fine but to add a 20%+ fee for parts is unacceptable

Lack of expertise, lack of professionalismThey did an inspection of a low oil pressure alert. They diagnosed that sensors and valves are not working. After we changed all sensors and valves, low oil pressure alert was still there. When I finally check oil pressure with an oil pressure gauge, I saw that my cars low oil pressure still there.I cant believe they returned the car without checking oil pressure after an oil pressure alert. It could cost me a full engine rebuild and a possible law suit against them. They are extremely unprofessional and lacking any expertise that they claim. I had to overcharged fees for an unprofessional diagnosis and unnecessary repairs in here. Im still trying to reach them but I get no response.(Moreover, they tried to charge $235 for a part which is just $90 in original Audi service.)

Ive been a happy customer of German Motor Specialist for 11 years. I first went there at a friends recommendation. They do terrific work at far less cost than a dealer charges. These folks get people with multiple certifications which youll see hanging on their wall. They also will not push you into repairs ahead of schedule. Saied Sadrzadeh proved this point yet again on my last oil change, meticulously detailing repirs I could address, but sticking to my request of an oil change only. His approach guarantees Ill be back at German Motor Specialist for my next 100K service, which is right around the corner. Bravo!

The folks at GMS are really pleasant to deal with. I actually executed my repair without even stepping foot in the shop. The autoshop version of Amazon! ie add to cart. My sisters C300 had suffered the ubiquitous ESL (electronic safely lock) device failure. They quickly and correctly confirmed what I had known had failed and set out to make repairs. There were some snafus that occurred by the supplier (not the repair shop) and they honestly informed me every step of the way. I dont mind unexpected delays as long as they are up front about it. I have an NHRA licence and also perform a significant amount of maintenance and tuning so they were able to satisfactorily complete the repair and have the vehicle ready for pickup at the promised time. If ever you want you Mercedes or other German vehicle repaired, I would go see Jason or Saiyeed any day.

They fixed an electrical problem with the audio system that had me stumped, and another shop gave up on.They asked me to authorize additional maximum diagnosis time past the first hour, and then billed me for all of that amount, so this repair wasnt inexpensive.The cars handling felt different when I got it back.
