Food is always great here! Love the bruschetta flight. Drinks are good too! The only thing is the service is generally a little slow, so expect to be there a little longer.

Love this place, so decided to make valentines reservations.Food was bad! Steak was all fat and was raw, broccolini was salty! Very very salty not edible. My potatoes were so greasy seemed like it was a soup of fatVery tiny tables. I know they do it to make space and be able to host more people but…. If it ruins the service cut down on the tables and give better service

I sat at the bar with my husband and got the lavender lemon drop. When I tell you it was SO SMOOTH and delicious! Then we got the half sized beef nachos as an appetizer. It was amazing! It was a bit large for an appetizer tbh, but the taste was top tier. The beef was so tender. I got the Tuscan pasta with chicken because I wanted something different. It was very good! The chicken was tender, the sauce was perfectly seasoned and savory, and the pasta was perfectly cooked. Beware, the portion is also pretty large, but its great if you want to have leftovers. I also tried the La Playa cocktail, and it was good, but a little too unique for my tastes. It was sweet and strong, with a salty foam on top. My husband got the Sonder burger (cooked to medium), and I had a bite of it. The meat was very tender and flavorful. We both LOVED the smoky flavor of it.

Delicious food and a cool environment, but I can’t give that fifth star.I went with a party of people for a reservation that was placed a week prior. We weren’t seated until nearly 45 minutes after the reservation time.The waiting area is small, but made smaller when musicians are trying to set up and it was tight.But the food was amazing! Everyone shared their orders and we had a great time after we were seated.My husband ordered a popular burger but swallowed it up before I could take a pic. I got the beef stroganoff, which had a creamy, spiced sauce and perfectly tender beef.The appetizers we got, poutine and the bruschetta, were amazing!But the drink I ordered was missing the emulsified basil and the dehydrated strawberry garnish. When I asked the waitress if I had the right drink, she said it was correct, just missing the garnish. I explained it was missing more than just the garnish and she fed me an excuse about the drink being premade so “it just comes like that.”I didn’t want to make a fuss so I let it go but there wasn’t even an offer to have it remade correctly.As dumb as I felt that encounter was, the rest of the meal was so delicious I will 100% return for some good food. But maybe I’ll stick to beer or wine next time.

Great ladies night place! The food was great loved the Golden Girl salad. I loved my beer local tap blonde, but my friend wasnt happy with her martini. Our server Taylor was fantastic and got her a glass of wine instead. Live music was fun and the whole place was had a fun vibe.

Must dine! Sonder has a great atmosphere, staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Last visit I had my usual, the cioppino. Its one of the best I have had. Extremely flavorful! They are known for their fried chicken and mom said they did not disappoint. Very good and not greasy. We ordered the Cubano to go and we are cuban so it had our stamp of approval. Bring it on home with their creamy creme brulé. Hope you get a chance to stop by!Update to my last post. Friends and I had brunch today. Still delicious. We shared, 3 types of avocado toasts: salmon, goat cheese, prosciutto. All had amazing flavors. Next we shared, French Toast with eggs and poutine tater tots. All I can day is come hungry 😋. We washed it down with bottomless mimosas, micheladas and sorbet champagne. Sonders never disappoints. The service and food are great. Its a great place to go hang out with the girls or date night. Reviews brought us here and they did not lie. Was amazing from start to finish. It was prom night for the locals and a lot was reserved but they were able to seat us right away. Cant say enough great things. Not sure who the live band was but they were also great. LOVED IT!!

I had a great experience here at Sonder. Our waiter Jake was friendly and fast with delivering mh drinks and meal. I had the Bako Burrito with fries and ice tea. My friend and I shared some bruschetta as well! It is a little on the pricey side but youll get quality service and food. Will definitely be back!

Super great service at Sonder and I loved the atmosphere on the patio (there are misters and fans for summer, so if youre worried about heat, dont be!). I got the Breakfast Poutine and it was delicious, albeit a bit rich and big.

I have tried lots of there foods always been good quality of food. Some nights they decorate they plate other night not. But the food is always good. The Mac and Cheese is really good. Lobster ravioli I recommend that as well the steak if you like pepper it’s on it I know now to ask for it not to be in it. The French dip is really good as well.

Good food and great atmosphere! Tried this place with my gf while looking for a nice place to eat in Bakersfield. The setting is very nice, great apps, good entrees and a good selection of IPA’s. Medium price range, about what you’d expect to pay for a this type of place.

The lobster ravioli OMG! It’s a must. Super rich and creamy with lobster in the sauce and in the ravioli. Great and flavorful. The portions is big so would recommend sharing with someone else. Like a dish for two. Also the appetizers are good

Wow wow wow. Since opened a few months ago, I wanted to check out this around the corner place from my house. There was no menu online and all the customer pictures posted were burgers, fries, macn and cheese. Although I thought there might not be something much for a healthy gal like me, still gave a shot.Ill definitely go back to Sonder. Great atmosphere, about 3-4 food selections Id go for and good service, too.Oh, the beer selection is great as well!They are soon updating their web I was informed.Pictures of Buffalo cauliflower, ahi salad and super food salad. All were extremely enjoyable. Good prices! Ant wait to try the Cioppino.

Ive gone to Sonder twice in the last 3 weeks. The first time was for brunch on a Saturday right when they opened in the morning with 1 other person. It took a while for a waiter to even come to the table to acknowledge us. Once we finally ordered, the food took at least 45 minutes to get to the table, and 2 other tables that sat down after us received their food before ours. Most of the food was pretty good though.The second time I went for an early dinner around 4:30pm on a weekday with 1 other person. When we walked in the door, no staff acknowledged us for a good few minutes, not even a simple well be right with you. We finally got seated, ordered food, it came out, but was missing one dish (order for it was never put in), no big deal. The food was also pretty good again. We finished eating and sat for about 10-15 minutes, waiting for someone to acknowledge us so we could get the check. Most of the staff was hanging around the bar area just talking. I almost got up to walk over to our waiter, but finally someone was cleaning a table nearby and could see we were wanting to get our check. The service is definitely not what it used to be. Im not impressed, and will probably not be going back.

The food was really delicious, however, we made a reservation for a party of 20, confirmed the reservation a week prior to the date, and when we arrived, it took them almost an hour to seat us because they said that they had other parties as well and 12 was the best they could do until they had more tables available. But they knew for more than a week that we had a party of 20 coming in at that time and we had the confirmation email confirming our reservation. The manager, Hannah was rude, condescending, with an entitled attitude. She said that 12 was the best that she could do right now and we could take it or leave it, she also told my friend that made the reservation “you can look like that all you want but nothings going to change.“ Her attitude and behavior put a damper on the first hour and a half we were there. However, after that, the service was great, our waiter was Temo. He was attentive to everybody, he was very kind and accommodating, he was great with the kids in our party, as well as the adults. The food was also fantastic. I see other reviews of other people that have had difficulties with reservations, so maybe it’s better to come as a walk in with only a few people or make a reservation for a smaller group versus a large party of people, because it seems they tend to have a hard time accommodating you unless you rent out the party room in the back, which we were unable to do because it was already booked.

Just discovered this place. Delicious and worth ever cent. If you love being able to have a drink and finish your appetizer before the entree comes, please try Sonder. Timely, courteous, and efficient service. Drinks are so good, and you wont find better food. Fine dining food, with a casual vibe. The bar area was full of the young (20-30 something) and trendy, and there is an outdoor fireside area that is great for this time of year.(December) I loved our time there so much. You will too!

Very disappointed with the manager, Hannah, at this restaurant. I was part of a large group that had a reservation, but when we arrived, there was no table prepared for us. We had a confirmation email with the correct number of guests and the back room reserved. Rather than be helpful to the 20 of us waiting, the manager, Hannah, was rude. After about 30 minutes, she pushed tables together for us (even though we reserved the back room, and it was empty🤷‍♀️). She even went so far as to say, “this is the best I can do for you, and you can keep looking at me like that all you want, but it won’t change anything.” 😳 I couldn’t believe it. Our waiter, Temo, was very helpful and also seemed upset at the lack of preparation for our party. He worked very hard to make our experience turn out positive. The food was also very good. It’s a shame that a manager almost ruined the whole event, and I know we will be leery of returning anytime soon.

The food is great! I really enjoy Sonder for the food, but the service we received last night was awful. We waited an hour and a half for our food and were told that two large groups held up food preparation. Unfortunately I noticed other visitors that were seated after us were receiving food. We spoke to the manager she was able to give us a business discount, but this unfortunate incident has left a bad taste in my mouth.Poor communication appears to have led to this lack of service and could have easily been rectified if the wait time was communicated to us. We may spend money again at Sonder but not anytime soon.

This was shortly after the lunch rush. I was seated quickly. The menu supplied was laminated, but it had a dried, crusty texture on it which means it had not been wiped off in a while. While waiting for my drink order (a particularly well-executed red sangria), I wiped the menu off with a paper towel using water from the unrequested glass of water at my table. The menu is eclectic and limited, especially before 4 pm, as the menu is both their lunch and dinner menu: 1/3 of the menu is not available at lunch time. I had the Philly cheese steak sandwich which is served open faced with a choice of coleslaw or chips. The sandwich itself was particularly good! High-quality meat, just the right amount of cheese. The slaw was julienned raw veggies, no dressing, salty, and otherwise flavorless. I would not get the slaw again. There are several other items on the menu that Id like to try though, such as poutine, charcuterie, the Cubano sandwich, the Cinderella Curry dinner, and their bruschetta board choices, so I will probably be back, after 4:00

I got here and was seated. Stephanie informed me Jade would be my server and would arrive shortly. Jade never showed but Stephanie took my order and was checking on my regularly. We went on a late (9PM) Saturday night date and had the brussel sprouts with pork belly, bruschetta and some wings. To drink we had some house margaritas, Usual Suspects and some PBR in a can. Great food and drink options, comfortable seating, relaxed place to get good food, drinks and enjoy a live performance. Not too sure about the performance part.... guy two tables over got up, went to mic, took guitar and tore it up for four/five songs. Really talented singer! Was pretty slow, so service staff was very attentive and friendly. Props to all.

Showed up here with a reservation for 8 people. We were told to we had to sit outside. We explained that we have a newborn and an Autistic toddler who is terrified of flies. We recently went to Sonders after about a year of not going and we loved it so much that weve gone 4 times in a two week period. The food is amazing, atmosphere great and the staff is nice. My only slight complain is that once the staff leaves your table it is mission impossible to find them let alone get them to your table. When its busy I totally get it, but the times Ive gone it didnt seem to be busy. The staff is polite and knowledgeable about their menu I just wish they were a little more available and not just come to our table when they take the order and drop off the food. Overall great experience.

Must try the bruschetta appetizers with brie. Even the brownie sundae is enjoyable regardless of how full you may be. But it does have plenty of loose nuts so a caution to those with allergies. Only thing I would say I miss is an espresso after dinner, otherwise a very fine dining experience

The atmosphere of Sonder is pretty nice. The main restaurant is only lightly lit, with couch areas and intimate tables. I went to a business dinner, and we used the group room in the back. It was a large room that seated 20 of us nicely (fits up to 30) I believe.The food was slightly pricey but tasty, and the beer was cold and priced well. We received great service from one waitress, and she kept up with the large group like a pro!

I really like the atmosphere. I was really looking forward to a nice Sunday brunch with my girlfriends with bottomless mimosas and good food. When we walked in the door we were asked if we wanted to be sat inside or outside, we asked if we could be sat outside and the hostess went to go check outside and then came back and grabbed menus and did not say another word to us or make eye contact and went back outside. Confused whether or not we should follow her outside we went anyway. We were sat in the only table to us direct sunlight. As soon as we got to the table she asked us if we wanted drinks. Mind you I have never been here and need a minute to look at the menus. We did not see another waitress for another 40+ minutes. By this time I was getting a sunburn on my face and my hair was hot enough to fry an egg on. We asked a few times if we could be move or move the table or get an umbrella or anything and nobody offered any help or relief of any kind and I felt like they blew us off. Another larger party was getting great service and was being tended too hand and foot the entire time having their bottomless mimosas refilled every few minutes. By the time the waitress came back with my food my mimosa was warm from being in the sun. I do not recommend the Sonder scramble unless you like unseasoned scrambled eggs and one slice of thin, small, dry, hard, toast, two 4in by lcm thin pieces of bacon for $14!!! I rarely make a fuss about a place but the service was just really crumby! Im sad to say that this first experience will most likely be my last.

The food (patty melt, golden girl salad, and pizza dip) was good. It was a bit overpriced. The patty melt was the favorite of the three dishes. The sauce and onions really made the dish. I would have preferred more sauce on it though. I enjoyed the golden beets in the salad. The pizza dip came with a miniscule amount of bread. Even when loading the dip onto the bread, we ran out of only about one third of dip when the bread was gone. Of course they charged a couple bucks for an extra side of bread that came with about as small an amount as the initial pizza dip dish. The outdoor dining was well set up and overall a nice experience. The atmosphere was pleasant. Naturally there were some flies and a small spider kept crawling on the wall near my wifes seat. I wont go here often, but will likely return at some point.

I understand many places are understaffed, but the place had an abundance of empty tables. The waitresses they did have, kept circling the same tables while we patiently waited. Sat at the bar which was left dirty even after they cleaned up the glasses. Ordered a bourbon with light ice which I got a glass almost 3/4 full of ice. Ordered the ahi tuna which was overcooked. Sonder is one of my favorite places and we go every week or so, but do not eat here if they have large parties or events going on at the same time, they seem to forget about the main dining room and service becomes terrible. It seems that when the manager is not there, the service really drops and you have to get the attention of the servers. Often, you have to let them know to refill your drink and dont really pay attention if you need another.I recommend their toast board. Its kind of novel and usually really good, though I think they may use too much arugula.The other items can be pretty good (hit) or weird (miss). The sandwiches are good, the toast board is good, but some of the breakfast dishes are really really salty and heavy.Also its pretty trendy, probably a good place to take a date.

Food is pretty good here but the menu is pretty small. If you are looking for a regular place to grab dinner or a drink, you might tire of the choices. The bartenders are great and pretty easy to talk to. During my visits to the bar, they have poured with a heavy hand which is very much appreciated. Wine selection is pretty good and the wait staff is knowledgable about what the different flavors. The patio area is nice and well shielded from traffic noise. Hopefully during summer hours it will be as cool enough to sit outside.

We sat at the bar and got immediate service. We were given a list of cocktails and wines and beer. I ordered a beer expecting a pint but only got a 10 ounce pour for 7$. There was no mention on the menu or from the waiter that the beer I ordered was served that way, if I had known I would have ordered something else. Came for brunch. This place has a bay vibe and atmosphere focusing on modern foods. After waiting for longer than usual for food, I was served an undercooked biscuit. There was raw dough inside of it. They replaced it for me. Coffee is overpriced $3 for regular coffee... I think we had bad service because of an event going on in the banquet room. My country fried pork was cooked great and fried lightly. The highlight of the meal was the spicy yellow gravy on the pork. I had side of fruit although it was not the freshest fruit I have had and it was all cantelope. The waiters were friendly and nice but maybe a little slower that day. 2022 Update: This place has been totaly turned around. We love it here.its been a couple weeks but during my last visit Staff literally did nothing as a young lady sat at her table and drank alcohol while her two kids ran around the entire restaurant screaming. The food is phenomenal! I had the best fried chicken ever. This place looks fancy when you walk in with a mixture of traditional tables and couches with big coffee tables to eat in a casual style or some really fancy large booths with big comfy couch type seating. That fried chicken....I cant stop. It was marinaded in buttermilk for a long time...Ill tell you that. It also had a smokey taste to it under that glorious coating. My wife had the Cubano sandwich which was also amazing and HOMEMADE chips. We also had a bruschetta platter and I going to guess they make that bread there. The mashed potatoes and gravy that went with my chicken was to die for. The best part.......the pricing is really, really reasonable. Well, Sonder. I had heard a lot of hype, and finally was able to make it out for dinner this evening. The best I can say is meh.... While our server was polite, and helpful when asked for something, she was not attentive. We had to ask for things that should have easily been noticed by any experienced server. Our food was ok. The Sonder Burger was very meaty and greasy, and reminiscent of the flavor of a Carls Jr burger. Our Charcuterie Board was also just average in food quality and flavor. Dessert likewise. Nothung was bad, but nothing was noteworthy either. With competition in the restaurant atmosphere growing, Im thinking we will choose to go elsewhere next time were planning to spend $20+ per person for a nice dinner out.

We went for the first time on Mothers Day and I cant say enough great stuff about this place! I cant think of any place in Bakersfield that has such an eclectic blend of amazing flavors and a really fun atmosphere. Being our first visit we actually had a hard time deciding from all the great sounding choices. We ended up ordering a couple different appetizers and entrees to share between the five of us family style and we were all very full and even more impressed with the flavor combinations. I ordered the Sonder Burrito with country potatos (didnt expect to see that on the menu when we walked in) and I already know Im ordering the same on my next visit it was so delicious! Very distinct smokey and just the right amount of spicy flavors with tons of avocado and fluffy scrambled eggs wrapped in what tasted like a homemade tortilla. WOW! We made reservations for our party of 20 for New Years Eve for 7 pm. We were seated in a timely fashion, but that was about the only thing that went right. First, we had been told there would be a prix fixe menu for the evening, which apparently was cancelled without notice. It took 45 minutes just for them to take our food order. Then, it took another 45 minutes to get our appetizers (mostly bruschetta selections and charcuterie boards). It was nearly another hour before we finally got our food. Once the food arrived, there wasnt much that was done right. Fortunately, my food tasted fine (buffalo chicken sandwich with mac and cheese), so they get one star for that. However, all my friends who ordered the evenings special of bone-in pork chop all had terribly dry pork chops. The rest of the plate was dry, too, ie hummus and brussels sprouts, which made us believe that the plate had been sitting under a heat lamp for an extended period of time. There was no excuse for the pork chop being overcooked, as we could clearly see an Anova running in the kitchen. Just sous vide the pork chop and you wont overcook it! Also, the sear on the pork chop was terrible - barely-existent grill marks. Another friend had the superfood salad - the avocado was browned and the bowl it was served in was refrigerator-cold, making us think the entire thing had been pre-made and was just taken out of the refrigerator. Finally, several friends ordered the evenings other special of ravioli. All of the raviolis were basically raw. They tasted of raw dough, and the texture of the raviolis was overly soft, with the dough oozing through the tines of the fork. It was actually inedible. Several of my friends left hungry that night. Luckily we had snacks prepared at my friends house for the rest of the evening. The restaurant gets a second star for the manager/owner realizing their mistake and comping the bill for us that night, but it was not a pleasant experience. This is the second time Ive experienced poor service at this restaurant. They have been open for nearly a year and a half now. They should be able to handle a party like this by now. They lost out on a huge bill tonight due to their mistakes. Too bad for them.

My husband and I decided to go there at the last minute. We were seated quickly next to a screaming child and a really loud mother so before we even sat down I asked to sit elsewhere. Got the menu and there is hardly anything on it and very expensive. I reluctantly ordered a cheeseburger and my husband ordered a patty melt. His great, mine came out medium rare we stopped a server walking by and showed her my raw hamburger and she said “it’s supposed to be like that we cook all our burgers medium well”. Well lets start off with I went here on Saturday Nov 18 for a brunch meal. It was 3 of us in my party. We were seated quickly. Well it took a solid 45 minutes after we placed our actual meal order to receive our bruschetta and meat and cheese board which we ordered as an appetizer 10 minutes before we ordered our meal so 55 minutes altogether. And my girlfriends tea had not came yet. When we finally got our appetizers out meals came out 5 minutes later. So no time to enjoy them. Now my girlfriends burger was solid cold, the cheese sauce on the Mac and cheese was solid not liquid at all just so you know how cold it was, her fries was cold and soggy like this plate had been sitting there for a good 20 to 30 minutes waiting to come out. My friends plate had cold hard biscuits with cold gravy over them, the gravy had that hard skin on it after it gets cold. Now my plate was Luke warm at best but the chicken was extremely tough and dried and slightly burnt. And the waffle? Well it was a joke because it was nothing of a waffle on any form of definition. It was a pancake hush puppie at best or a poor excuse for some and it was cold. Asked the waitress about it she said she didnt know and didnt do anything to apologize or compensate us for the long wait or terrible food. Im not sure what was going on that day but the business was not at all packed but still took forever to get cold food. 70 dollars to eat there for a terrible time? No thank you not again. I hope th owner reads this and does a better job for future customers so they do not have to suffer like I did.

The meat is tasteless. The sirloin and the burger (patty melt, sonder burger) meat are like fibrous water. The two sirloins were burnt and ordered as medium rare and medium, it was very bitter. The meat is not seasoned at all. My recommendation is pepper and salt for a start. The salads are raw but they only give you ranch to season it with. The roasted cauliflower is actually pretty good but doesnt justify the whole plate. The cobb salad chicken was dry and not seasoned aswell. I would not recommend. Friendly service, good food, small bar. Nice outdoor patio. Crowd pretty nice (very Bakersfield). Opens at ten on Saturday, stop in for a coffee and enjoy sitting in the morning sun on the patio.
