This boat excursion was perfect in all ways—perfect amount of time, perfect combination of views/activities (sea life, “white water” boating, sea caves/cliffs, historical info etc), and perfect price.. Mike was the perfect captain too, very friendly and personable, helped to situate my kids and make the boat ride super fun. He even opened up a special trip for us when he was already sold out for the day, after I called in and asked if there was any other availability. The boat is a great size for 6 people and it was like a private tour of the bay. Do not miss out on this! We hope to be back one day and go whale watching with him!

Best ocean adventure we have ever been on. We got to see dolphins, loads of sea lions, and so so many humpback whales! Michael was incredible. He was so friendly and fun. We had an amazing time.

We had the most amazing time! Captain took us to all the wonderful sites to see here in Avila Beach, and around. We saw sea lions, families of otters, pelicans that flew over our head upon approaching them, bay seals along with her babies. He took us to see all kinds of caves all along the coast. He did donuts on the ocean that made my grandsons, put their hands up like they were on a roller coaster ride With the youngest one yelling to his brother, “isn’t this amazing!” We really did have a great time. Thank you so much! We will see you again highly recommend going you won’t be disappointed.

Michael is a FANTASTIC guide for an adventure trip!! He goes out of his way to make sure everyone has a great experience, he is also great with kids. My two kiddos thought he was so cool and enjoyed the trip very much. He made sure we got to see the wildlife, taught us about the different areas and made sure to keep the adrenaline up. He didnt mind our bunches of questions and was overall a very kind person. We are planning to come back and do a whale watching tour when its the right season!

Super fun time. Worth every penny and more. Would definitely do it again. Captain is super laid back and knowledgeable. Went the extra mile too. We just did the harbor tour and he was like “we saw a couple whales out here an hour ago, so if everybody wants we can see if we can see them again.” And then we saw a mama and a calf humpback. My wife gets motion sick very easily but she had a great time and didn’t get sick either!

My best friend and I just did a girls weekend in Avila. We live in the area, but have never had the opportunity to do some of the fun activities around here. We booked a harbor tour with Mike, and had the most incredible time. Mike is funny, attentive, and has so much knowledge to share. The otters all have their babies, and Mike stopped at a safe distance so that we could get a close look at them without disturbing them. It was definitely a highlight for us. We are so we decided to take this trip. We can’t wait for whale season to come around so we can do one of Mike’s whale watching tours too. We will definitely be telling her friends.

We had an amazing harbor tour!! We saw sea lions, otters, cormorants, and a great pelican show. There were spectacular views, caves, and a lot of great stories about the area--believe every word your guide tells you. It was a lot of fun and a great part of our girls weekend trip. I was sure I would be putting up with a rough ride and suffer through it for the ride but the boat was very comfortable. I highly recommend it!

Michael went out of his way to try to give everyone the best experience. We got up close and personal with the otters who were wrapped up in the kelp. We got to see the baby otters on their mom’s tummies. It was precious! Communication will Michael was wonderful and he gave lots of info about the coastal region. Hoping to go again tomorrow!!!

Amazing tour and really fun knowledgeable guide. Captain Mike was super cool, he knows a lot about these giants and got us up close and personal with many humpback whales. We played with several for a couple hours, nothing like seeing them live, the pics dont so it justice, its all about the experience. He threw in an added bonus for my wife who wanted to see some sea lions, we sailed past a huge group of them that apparently knew the boat because they came out to say hello as soon as they saw us.Highly recommend Mike and his tour, you will not be disappointed!

Hands down the most perfect whale watching experience with Michael! ❤️We saw 7 whales (spouts and breaches), a SpaceX rocket launch, sea lions, and porpoises! It was an unforgettable tour. Looks can be deceiving. The boat is a little small, but the size was perfect for the tour. We had a really good time. We got to see some otters, seal lions and even got a chance to see whales. Would highly recommend!

Captain Mike gave us an absolutely amazing and unforgettable tour! It is probably one of the best experiences that we’ve had while living in California! We saw multiple whale breaches throughout the trip, as well as whale feeding and a very close encounter where the whale came right up to the boat! The team at SLO Tours was so much fun! We planned a small anniversary boat ride around Avila and were not disappointed! We were taken to some wonderful views, rocked out to the theme of Jurassic Park as we rushed along the open ocean and were treated to multiple animal sightings! Michael is great and the tour was a lot of fun. He made it feel like we were on a boat with friends, as compared to other tours Ive been on that felt a bit cookie cutter and rigid. You wanna see otters, were going to Otter Town! Want to see that cliff over there, the boat is going to get so close youll want to reach out and touch it. Michael strikes a nice balance of professionalism and charisma. Great tour, I definitely recommend it!

What an amazing experience! Let me tell you, Mike doesn’t mess around. He knows how to find whales and he got us right into the action today. To start we had a pod of dolphins swimming with us with 2 humpbacks in the distance. Went out on a Sunday afternoon harbor tour this last Labor Day Weekend. Mike made the trip very enjoyable. Saw seals and sea lions and birds, and that is what we expected. Had a very nice ride (sometimes fast) ride in the area. Mike was very, very funny and knowledgeable. He made sure that everyone was comfortable and had a nice time. You can tell he puts a lot of effort (but seems effortless) into making it a nice experience. It was a beautiful day in a very nice area and Mike is great. It could not have been any better. Kids and us older folks all loved it. Convenient parking and access. Would recommend it to anyone coming anywhere near the area.

My family and I had a wonderful time on our whale watching charter! The boat itself is an awesome (and very safe) US Coast Guard boat. It makes for a quick and comfortable ride as you begin your exciting search for whales. We lucked out and saw about 9 humpback whales during our time on the water and witnessed them feeding, breaching and diving! I would recommend and definitely book another charter on our next visit! All 3 of our children enjoyed their time too (for reference ages 12,9 and 3). Lastly huge shout out to our friendly, professional and knowledgeable Captain Frank!! You were wonderful and made our trip so much more memorable!

Took a wonderful boat tour on a naval raft craft. Warm, fast, and fun. Guide was a local and showed knowledge of the general area. Took his time to explain history and other events. Enjoyed seeing all kinds of birds, seals, pups, otters, etc. He even recommended a choice of restaurant a located at the Port San Luis Pier pier.

A perfect activity for family with kids 3+. Captain Michael is funny and a big jokester with the kids. We saw birds, sea lions, otters. Michael went really fast and did donuts at one point— he kept checking and backed off when our little kid said it was too much— except now that’s all they can talk about!! No one got sea sick. There are three seats inside the little housing part and two-ish seats in the back. 45 min is the perfect amount of time on the water.

Captain Mikes tour is, in my opinion, the best around. He has created a fun, enjoyable and an unforgettable experience for his customers. You can tell he loves the ocean and his boat. The boat itself is well maintained, easy to board, and comfortable. As an added bonus, theres a part on the tour that feels like a rollercoaster by the speed we went. Which is super fun. I have lived in Templeton for 2 1/2 years, and this was the first time we went whale watching because of our friend visiting from out of town. My husband and I cannot say enough good things about this experience. Mike was amazing, and although I know this wont happen every time, he took us to locations that had so many whales - some of which were within touching distance of the boat! One whale was so close that it hit the boat with his tail. The boat was fast and felt very safe. Our party of four went on the whale watching tour and it was fantastic. We saw several humpback whales feeding, and Captain Mike explained to us how they were coordinating their efforts with the thousands of seals that were also feeding. Even birds showed up to grab a meal. The boat was extremely easy to board, which is a major plus for persons having mobility or balance issues. Captain Mike is friendly and pays attention to detail -- he took care to turn the bow into the wind so that the engine exhaust fumes did not overwhelm us. A+ tour!!! Thank you.

Captain Michaels whale tour is awesome! His Coast Guard vessel, passion to make everyone have an outstanding tour is beyond a memorable experience. We literally saw hundreds of dolphins, and the whales were amazing to see. Captain Michael sure knows how to find not only hundreds of dolphins but amazing whales. Mike gave my family and I am amazing tour! Even after warning us of foggy conditions he skillfully was able to locate a pod of 4 whales which we were able to follow for over an hour as they fed. Besides the whales we also saw many harbor porpoise, pelicans, otters, seals, and even an 8 food GREAT WHITE SHARK! We were very fortunate, but even if we saw nothing, just being on the water and jumping waves on the ex-Coast guard boat was a blast.

I had such a wonderful trip with Captain Mike..we saw tons of sea lions in a row just jumping in a line for miles..a true National Geographic moment 💕..then we headed back toward Guadalupe and the dunes by Oceano and saw several whales very close to us..Soo amazing they are..and saw a few whales on the way back..one breached behind us..but Capt. Michael is an amazing tour guide with an even more amazing vessel. He repurposed a coast guard boat to do tours with no expense spared. The tour includes close up experiences with seals and coastal birds and their cliff habitat. He provides stories with photographs of what the coast used to look like long ago and stories of its rich history. This is a must do coastal tour. I promise you wont be dissapointed. The tour is specifically catered to your interests. More often than not Michael will play music suited to the environment and the surroundings. I cant speak highly enough of slo tours. Such an amazing experience! This was truly an all around thrill ride. From the speed of the boat zipping over the water to my awe at getting SO CLOSE to SO MANY humpback whales, this experience was everything I could want it to be. We saw three whales lift their heads from the water no more than 25 yards from our boat! I traveled with both of my children (ages 10 and 5) and Michael was a very knowledgable and accommodating guide. My youngest child sometimes gets carsick so I gave her half a tab of Dramamine and she had a blast with no nausea. If youre on the fence about this, go for it! This is a whale watching experience like no other!

If you want a whale watching adventure or just an exciting ride around the harbor I highly recommend SLO tours out of Port San Luis pier in Avila Beach. This is our second time going out with Captain Michael Brink and we will definitely go again. This is not a slow trolling experience - It is a very fast ride on a coast guard Zodiac style boat, but I felt totally safe the whole time (and I cant swim!). If you sit outside prepare to get quite wet (exhilarating), but the enclosed area is perfect for those who prefer to stay dry. Captain Michael is amazing at navigating to where the whales are hanging out. Id like to take his Ocean Rafting tour as well to explore the coastline and enjoy the roller coaster of a ride. It is really worth the price to book with SLO tours.

We would have had passed San Luis Obispo if it wasn’t for friends who lived there and we’re so thankful we stopped by. They introduced us to SLO Tours for a morning whale watching session and within minutes of leaving the harbour we encountered our first whale!
