This place was recommended to us a couple of times, so we stopped in on a weeknight without reservations. We were able to be seated immediately. The atmosphere in the restaurant is phenomenal, it feels like youve stepped out of the desert of the AV into a authentic sushi bar in LA or even Japan. The staff were all very friendly and informative with any questions we had. The sushi was generous portions sizes and deliciously prepared. The sushi dinner allowed us to sample a variety of different fish, and we ordered some mackerel sushi on the side. The tuna and yellowfin werent for me, but the albacore was probably the best single bite of sushi Ive ever had. Biggest knock would be that the prices absolutely reflect the quality of product and service. Definitely not somewhere I would recommend for a quick bite or a regular occurrence (unless of course youre wealthier than I 😂) but on special occasions, Shogun is truly an excellent experience right here in our own backyard.

This was the first restaurant we fell in love with, when we moved to the area several years ago. It has remained our favorite. We appreciated the authenticity of the menu and preparation as well as consistently fresh and delicious fish. The quality of the fish and their menu in general rivals the best sushi restaurants in Los Angeles. We loved chef Masa, and were very saddened by his passing. He brought talent, dedication, passion, and commitment to his craft. We are so happy that his wife Mika is carrying on the torch. She and her wonderful staff are ensuring that the patrons are getting exceptional dining experience in the AV. They are thoughtful, caring, and kind. The sushi continues to be top notch. My husband and I, as well as our 6-year-old daughter, recommended it highly!

This spot is really quite incredible. A true oasis of great food in the desert. I highly recommend you make reservations if you have a party of more than 3-4 people.The menu is very simple and everybody in mymgeoup loved the food. The fish was incredibly well prepared and the attention to detail was evident in the presentation. Had the sushi dinner and found it to be a culinary treat. In particular the albacore left me and a few of my buddies raving.The staff was super friendly and our waitress was excellent at recommending sake. Try the unfiltered for something a bit different!Completely spaced on taking a picture of my dinner, but took a snap shot of some of the fish!

We finally came back after a few years, and wow, I don’t need any other sushi place ever again. The sea bass was even more incredible than I had remembered from a few years back and it just melts in your mouth! The sushi was perfect — not too cold, but also not warm or anything, unlike a lot of sushi places that have very cold pieces of fish. This was the perfect temperature, and each piece melted in your mouth. I highly recommend the sea bass combo with the sushi. We went at 5:30 pm on a Saturday with a reservation but it wasn’t too busy.The wait staff was very nice, unlike a couple other reviews mentioned. They were attentive and provided me with a recommended sake, which was very good! It’s a bit pricey, but absolutely worth it for the authentic Japanese delicacy that Master sushi Chef Masa offers here. ご馳走様でした！また来ます！

I went here with my sister and it was by far some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. The service was absolutely excellent, the establishment was throughly cleaned and provided safe distancing for dining. It absolutely some of the best customer service I’d ever received. The pricing was affordable and worth every penny. The food was served quickly, and our hostess attended to us when needed. The atmosphere was very calm and relaxing. Absolutely 10/10!

Review for March 23rd 2022. Shogun Sushi Restaurant is located in east Palmdale California. Masa San is the owner and the Itamae. This place is by far the most authentic sushi place you can ever hope to visit. Truly a Hidden Gem and we are very fortunate to have this place here in Palmdale. The owner here literally goes to the San Pedro Harbor every day to buy the fish he will be serving that day. A true master at sushi. This place is not very big but the authenticity of the sushi here is far beyond anyone can ever imagine. Possibly the best sushi in ALL Los Angeles county. Im not guilty, to say that I absolutely LOVE 🍣 SUSHI. If anyone ever have the privilege to visit Shogun Sushi, youd been the fortunate few to ever have REAL AUTHENTIC sushi in Los Angeles county.

Simple, straightforward, traditional sushi. Youre not going to find anything called a Hot Night or Vegas Roll here. But the quality of fish is simple perfection. I was a bit disappointed that they didnt have any uni or saba when we came in, however the flavor of the salmon, scallops, and toro more than made up for it. Plus, they have natto!

Had an amazing sushi dinner a few Saturdays ago. The staff and chef are super sweet and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and fish quality is excellent. I was really thrown off to find a traditional Japanese restaurant in the middle of the desert and am very pleased. The current owner is the widow of previous owner/chef and she reopened the business. Please come and support them! Also, please beware that this is establishment serves traditional Japanese food, which takes more care and time to prepare so please be patient.

Went to Shogun sushi in Palmdale for dinner. Its a pretty nice place. Quality is excellent. Service is excellent. Fairly traditional compared to the usual local sushi places. Definitely on the list of top places to go as far as Im concerned. The pictured combo was $20, and also included soup and salad.

Shogun Sushi is a small restaurant that you could be completely forgiven for missing as you drive past on an unlit evening.Id encourage you not to do so.This quiet, clean, unrushed and utterly unpretentious establishment has seemingly one focus, and that is the quality of the sushi they prepare. I enjoyed a spicy tuna roll that was spot on in its subtlety and focus on the flavor of the tuna, something only done at restaurants not motivated to hide their lesser quality ingredients with an overabundance of heat.Likewise the salmon roll with scallop was a subtle and well-integrated dish, made carefully, and presented well.My appetite only permitted me to try the two rolls, but Im now eager to go back with friends.There are many paths to disappointment and regret whilst attempting sushi in the AV. You may spend just a bit more here, but you will feel better about yourself (and likely just feel better) after you dine here.

Not only was the food fresh and prepared as delicious as possible, the setting was as enjoyable and the service a full, 5 stars. August 11th 2023, its been a long time since Ive been here two and a half years. I heard the owner is gone now. Ordered some food and not the same anymore. The only thing good is the eggplant tempura, the shrimp and calamari tempura not that good. The salmon I ordered with the three item was undercoat and the other salmon was okay and the California roll was okay. All in all not the same anymore without the original chef. But will come back only to order the eggplant tempura thats it thats the only one I like. Sorry about this rating was not expecting this.

Been coming here since I was a kid & it fostered my love for sushi. I have since moved to San Diego, but the sushi still doesnt even compare to the quality of Shogun in Palmdale. They’re open again!!! The word “gem” gets thrown around a lot (especially in the AV), but this truly is a gem of a restaurant. No crazy sauces, “heart attack” rolls, or whatever - just simply good Japanese food and sushi with excellent service. I hope they stay open for many more years to come! Amazing! This is hands down the best sushi Ive ever had. Everything is the freshest it could possibly be, even the Wasabi is fresh (not from a paste).The chef takes great pride in his work. His beaming smile when I complimented his food made my night.Some people mark this place down for the cost, but it is worth it. They post their prices online. We were the first ones in but the couple next to us got their food first despite us ordering before them because the one sushi chef decides to fill their order first. Apparently they are friends of the owners so they got preferential treatment which is disheartening because a customer is a customer. Our money is just as good as theirs. And there portions were enormous while ours were less than average. Food is out of this world though.

Love this place. Hard to get in sometimes as it is very small and a very, very small parking lot (maybe 8 spaces) but plenty of street parking. Also difficult to find if you don’t already know where it is. Kind of off the beaten path. Recommend putting it in the nav and letting it tell you where to go. I’m not a sushi person, but their cooked food is superb. Recommend the Golden Shrimp. Most amazing taste I’ve ever experienced for seafood. I can eat those things all day, every day. Cannot even try to explain the flavor, maybe the best I can do is a very mild teriyaki with a smokey flavor. Intense flavor to say the least. The rest of my family are sushi types and they rave about that, too.Update: it looks like they have permanently closed. So sad :( I will now have to find another chef to make me golden shrimp but fear that it was a unique dish and will never have my pallet served that wonderful taste. Thanks Masa for the great food!Update 2: it looks as though it has reopened. I have not returned so I can’t say if the menu is the same, and whether or not my wonderfully lovely Golden Shrimp are still there. I will have to stop by and see if it still holds up as before.

The sushi was great! While the two waitresses may not be the most accommodating, they genuinely try to educate you on the Japanese customs. My friends and I got them to open up and they were actually pretty cool. The chef was very traditional and corrected us in saying he gets his fish fresh daily from the international airport and NOT from San Pedro. Overall, it was a VERY GOOD place to get sushi and I will definitely be back!

The Sushi was amazing until you find out that the Chef is hardly doing most of the cutting and has hired people in the kitchen to prepare most of the fish. I ordered my favorite dish which is Unagi-eel and asked for it to be well done and extra crispy. When I got the dish from the back kitchen helpers it was rubbery and was not the way that most Sushi restaurants prepare it. When I asked the waitress why is it not well done and crunchy as I have asked, she was so rude, stated that is how we make it. The waitress identified as a frail older lady, later I found out that she is the wife of the Sushi Chef continued with her disrespect. I placed some limits on her and told her to close that annoying disrespecting mouth of heirs and left the place. No apology, very rude service.

More pricey than other reviews led me to believe, I went with my 2yr old and we shared a lunch combo and 1 of their cheapest rolls of sushi (spicy tuna) and an order of uni which came with 2 pieces and it came out to be just over $50. Parking sucks! Despite all of that I gave it 5 stars because the service was superb, very friendly, prompt, and happy to answer any questions I had! The quality of food is amazing!! That was not exaggerated in the other reviews as I had feared. The tuna in the spicy tuna roll was delicious and melted in my mouth like butter and I was served the best miso soup (it was included in the lunch special) Ive ever tasted in my life 👌 presentation was good as well.

We ordered Green tea and 2 rolls informing our waitress we will order a few more after we had our first. Took 40 minutes to get our first order at that time we were told the kitchen was closing and we needed to order now. Ordered 2 more rolls, and arrived at closing time. Felt very rushed. I never would have seen or found this place but a coworker recommended it so we brought a group of 10 people. The food takes a little bit of a time and comes out one plate at a time...because they have one sushi chef back there doing it all! The service was good and the food was well worth the short wait. The fish tasted amazingly fresh, presentation was beautiful. I got a combo with ginger salad, miso soup, spicy tuna roll and seaweed salad. The ginger salad had a light dressing that was white and I loved it. The seaweed salad and miso were good...but the spicy tuna was amazing. My friend got the sushi special which was similar except instead of the seaweed salad it had five pieces of fresh sushi. Everyone at the table loved their meal. A friend let us try a piece of a roll that had salmon and scallops (I think it was a chefs special) and it practically melted in your mouth. I am definitely going here each trip to Palmdale. I think dinner was around $65 for the two specials and two large beers

The sushi here is simply fantastic. I saw the great reviews and had dinner here while on travel. The service was great and the sushi is some of the best Ive ever had. The other reviews are spot on! One downside is that the sushi is very expensive. Two rolls and two orders of negiri with a beer came to 70 bucks. Is it worth it? Yes!

We just visited there with a large party. Three of us had the shrimp and calamari tempura meal, only that it wasnt a meal. There were like 5 breaded pieces on a tiny plate. No soup, no veggie, no egg roll with it for $14. Some people in our party ordered sushi with only 2 pieces on the plate for $9 (incl. a hair). Service was very slow. We were not impressed. Spent $150 and left hungry. Sitting in Taco Bell now.

Not going to lie its not cheap but honestly, its about the same price and quality of sugar fish in LA. There is no contest it is the best sushi place in the AV. They have real wasabi which really does make a difference. My fiancee and I had 22 pieces and a beer each for $109. More than happy with that price for the quality fish they serve. They do not skimp on the portion size. The toro, albacore, and unagi were divine.

The sushi was delicious. Unfortunately the sushi chef has poor hygiene. While he made our meals I watched him lick his thumb twice. My husband joked that we just happened to be able to see it but similar and worse happen all the time behind the scenes. After we finished our meals I saw the chef cough into his hand and then continue to touch things in the prep area without washing them. If I had seen that before we ate I would have left. He did not wear gloves and I never saw him wash his hands. Its sad because the meal tasted quite good. Maybe saliva and germs are the chefs secret for extra flavor. I know we (mis) place a lot of trust in restaurant staff but please at least pretend to not spit and cough on our food.

Tonights sushi was unbelievably good. Masa-San is extremely picky about the fish he serves. Hes been making sushi almost every day for 24 years! He actually goes down to the fish market and chooses his own fish, comes back up and serves lunch and then dinner. No cream cheese rolls in this place. Real Sushi by a master who has personally been making it for close to 24 years. When the owner takes such pride in his food it shows, and you can taste it.

I will never go here again theyre not kid friendly theres no changing tables in their bathroom there is no chairs to sit your toddler in and the cook the lady that was there was very rude and the waitresses dont even speak English it was just really bad service we ended up leaving and I will never go there again. I have heard from friends and coworkers how the chef carefully selects the freshest of catches from the warehouse district (little Tokyo) near downtown every morning. I always order to combo that comes with two sides, rice, salad and miso soup. My favorites are gyoza (dumplings), spicy tuna roll, spicy crab roll, shogun roll and assorted tempura. The clear winner is Salmon marinated in Miso paste. A thinly sliced fillet of salmon that is grilled to perfection such that it melts in your mouth.
