This place has the best Sushi in El Dorado County. The atmosphere is nice, and the service is very friendly. These people take pride in their work, and make sure that youre happy with the food and the dining experience.

The friendliest service we have experienced in last 5 plus years!! My son absolutely loved the food. They gave us tofu for my toddler and a toy for both our kids. We felt so welcomed and will definitely come back.

This is by far one of the best sushi places Ive ever been too. The staff were lovely, the wait time was short. The foods presentation was amazing, fun, and honestly really cool. The foods quality and flavor was really good. If I could I would rate it 10/10. Five stars isnt enough. Definitely going to come back whenever Im in the area. I asked for the spiciest roll they had, and was not disappointed. It isn’t the spiciest thing I’ve had or even close but the heat built up nice and slow. They called it the “Black Dragon”. It’s not on the menu, but if you like heat, this is the roll for you 👌🏼

Dont let the purple building and the foothill location fool you, this restaurant is amazing.The staff is very welcoming and attentive. A perfect place to bring your family and kids or just a couple.There is a huge assortment of rolls, fresh and delicious. We tried 3 and will be back to try them all!The kids chicken teriyaki bowl is big and delicious. They set the kids up to feel special. Special plate and fork. Kids menu also comes with a surprise.We had the mochi ice cream for dessert!UPDATE! Went back again and tried some new rolls, yep delicious. Kids got chicken nuggets and French fries this time.I just noticed the eating area and view off the back deck. We will be eating there next time!

Great service, good sushi. As another reviewer said, dont let the location right off the highway or purple exterior fool you. When you walk past the sushi bar youll see that this is a real sushi restaurant like those in SF or Vancouver. We ordered the spider roll (a little extra for real crab instead of imitation krab), miso soup was excellent, an assortment of nigiri. The hamachi was my favorite.

My goodness, the friendliest & most customer service oriented food place I’ve been to. Going to places with kids is usually insanely stressful but not here. My kids were immediately given some toys to play with. They gave us kid safe cups, plates & utensils. The food was fresh & tasy as well. Glad to have found our sushi place. Dont judge this restaurant based on location. We missed the turn because of the construction and not being able to tell it was open. We turned around and happy we did!! Its an older place, but I felt like I was paying for top-notch food and service, not pretty seats. We had extremely fresh Tuna, the staff educated us on the types of cuts we were getting and just made us feel like we were best friends. Next time we have sushi it will be there!Edit** We went back, this time with our 4 kids. It was amazing! Our judgmental eater lived it, our I dont like sushi girl loved it and our I only eat chicken nuggets girl enjoyed it. We had the baby with us, they brought a high chair and before we ordered anything he had a child plate, miso soup, and a cup of water. We gave him some tofu and he couldnt get enough! Still amazing staff that makes you feel so welcomed

As residents of Placerville, my family and I try to circulate around the local establishments for a dinner out. Unfortunately, up until this evening, we had not been to Shilla. We were VERY impressed. Military family with deployments in Asia, making sushi and other Asian style cuisine difficult to satisfy. The first thing we noticed was the home-made fruit Soju jars at the back of sushi counter (very good sign). The staff were attentive and quick, yet very friendly and hospitable. Once we inquired about the Soju, our waitress quickly offered us a complimentary shot of the pineapple after dinner... which was way to delicious (I could see myself getting into trouble with that stuff :)The cuts of fish were straight up, melt-in-your-mouth, and the prices were comparable to other local establishments. The group behind us were having a bday (they turned on this fantastic bday music on the loud speaker), then continued to share the cake with the rest of the customers. BTW my daughter thought it was the most delicious cake and would LOVE to know where it came from. SHILLA - we will be back soon, thanks for the hospitality on a rainy, windy, Presidents Day night :)

Dragon and spider rolls are very good. Customer service wasn’t and owner was very rude to us. We wanted to sit in the back to enjoy the view but he said no tho the restaurant was empty when we came in. Also he rushed us to finish the rolls so that he could clean the table. If you can tolerate the rudeness, then come on in. Otherwise I recommend ordering pick up.

Always great service, no wait, and amazing food! Very worth the extra couple minutes driving out of town! My son loves the chicken teriyaki, and the Mochi they give him for desserts. The staff always make him feel special when we visit. One time he unknowingly left a toy behind, and when we visited a couple weeks later, the server remembered and brought it right out to him and made his day! I love their vegetarian roll and gyoza, but most of all, the spicy Ramen is amazing! I dont usually order Ramen at sushi restaurants, but I do here! Very affordable compared to similar options, and superior service.

I, like many others, feel that this place has gone down hill over the last few years. Almost half my order was missing when I ordered take out, the food is hit or miss everytime weve eaten here since May (like the ingredients arent very fresh), and the service is ok but not as great as it once was. Its a shame. I used to love coming here while growing up and even took my little guy when he was young. We knew the owners and it was always delicious. Hopefully they can return to their former glory. A lot of locals miss it.

This place is cute and the food is good. They have awesome art on the walls and a beautiful view of the canyon. Sunsets ate breathtaking! They can get busy (good for them) but as a result service slows down which is to be expected. Last time we went in we waited about 20 minutes to get our drinks and 30 mintutes to get our food after we ordered. We were at the restaurant close to two hours from start to finish, thats the reason I didnt give a 5 star review.

This is amazingly a diamond in the rough! The food feels like it was home cooked and they treat you like family. Its a bit hard to get here if youre on the opposite side of the freeway, but it is well worth it. The owners were treating my 1 year old like he was their grandchild. Okay where do I start I have some really great memories at Shilas Sushi 🍣. The service is always amazing Ive never been let down here. It has a cosy vibe and a little mom and poppy. The sake bombs are really good as well. at the end of the meal they will bring some mochi to the table and I think that is pretty cool. I dont really know if the mochi is included Im the bill thats how amazing this place is it just doesnt matter the price I recently had a softshell crab there that was pretty good too. They where empty but this was on a Sunday right when they opened I just couldnt wait to get there. I highly recommend the deluxe rolls menus and the beers they carry are good popular drafts. All of this a side you may find its pretty pricey here if you go full course meals then include a tip but I think a decent tip is deserved here.

This bright purple (really!) spot was a delightful surprise on our drive from Lake Tahoe back to the Bay Area. These folks have been dishing up Japanese cuisine for 18 years, and clearly love what they do. Service was friendly and homey and the food was delicious. The udon was rich and tasty, and the Blue Jazz Roll was a standout — fried jalapeños + mango somehow work perfectly together. The patio was perfect for an early dinner/late lunch with spectacular views of the mountains.

This is mountain sushi at its finest, on the way up to Tahoe and Sly Park. The people running the restaurant are super nice, the food is tasty, the menu has a lot of options and kids love it. (They typically give complimentary mochi ice cream bites at the end of the meal.) The specialty rolls are delicious and fresh, and on colder days the udon is a nice option. Try the special spicy Oregon roll if available or the citrusy Orange Road roll.Shilla is very kid-friendly (ask for chopsticks helpers and forks). There is a pleasant outdoor eating area with view out back and easy parking. Take-out is also easy. (When it wasnt busy, they even offered to bring the take-out out to our car.)Its a quick stop right off the highway: on the way up the hill, exit at the purple building (Paul Bunyan exit), or on the way down the hill, go past to the next exit and turn around.

Its a nice cabin out on the cliff. If you are able to get outside dining, the deck overlooks a large Sierra Forest and the atmosphere is very relaxing.Our meal was 4 very large sushi rolls on a big boat (should have taken a picture). VERY rude, not polite and disrespectful service!I was with my kids and wife to check the restaurant on our way to Lake Tahoe. So, as not locals, we didnt know you needed reservations.We barely entered and one of the sushimen shouted at us: Do you have a reservation? If not, go and wait for 45 min. Today is Sunday and everyone needs a reservation.We turned around and went away. So if you are planning to go there, make sure you call first and make a reservation. Or just dont bother and go to a place with better service.

**WORTH THE U-TURN** at Smith Flat Road (49B) on your way from Tahoe. Great hospitality, friendly staff, and traditional atmosphere! It only gets better...the rolls were delicious. The Sapporo Roll (spicy) and the Dragon Roll were top on our list this visit. Generous slabs on the 2pc nigiri. We both had the Teriyaki combo (chicken, pork, spicy pork). Comes with rice, soup w/ tofu, and a decent sized salad. Everything was very good. Food was hot and came out quickly. We have known about this place being there for a long time but had not tried it. Somebody a new recommended it so we went and tried it and was pleasantly surprised. The sushi rolls were good but the service was a little slow. I’m from Florida and used to super fresh sushi and seafood. When I moved to the Placerville mountains a year and a half ago, I came across this place and didn’t think twice about it because of the exterior.Looking for a new sushi place, I decided to read the Yelp reviews and I was convinced. Pulled up and I was really hesitating coming in but when I tell you this food was AMAZING!! Myself and my two youngest kids loved all of our food. I got the Sly Park Roll and 2 orders of the baked mussels, my son got the Spicy California Roll and a Spicy Tuna Hand Roll and my 5 year old had the Teriyaki Chicken Noodle Bowl.I HIGHLY recommend putting aside your first impressions and dining here when you have a chance. This place has the best sushi. Its hard to come here during Apple Hill season because the roads are so congested, but totally worth it. On weekends you may have to wait longer, but again so worth the wait. They have a huge menu. So many choices as well as appetizers. Normally I dont like sake, but the owners plum sake is so good. Speaking of the owners, they are so incredibly nice. They always make sure we are having a good time.

The best sushi! We only make it there for birthdays or special occassions, but the food is the freshest you will find! Service is quick, special appetizer when you sit; Japanese ice cream and a shot of whatever flavor of saki they have ready when dinner is done. This place has the worst service in all of El Dorado county! The 2nd time I visited was Thursday, Oct 5th. Our family (6) was there to celebrate 2 birthdays. After being so rudely spoken to by the older woman and the owner, we all decided to leave and dine elsewhere. The owner definitely needs to correct and train his employees in the art of customer service and politeness!! I am amazed that Shilla Sushi is still in business. SO DELICIOUS! The Green Jacket roll was so flavorful, fresh, and beautiful. We brought our nine month old son with us and he was served before us with miso soup without even ordering it.
