Our favorite Pastor Dudley and Shepherd Church are where we attend while in California. This church preaches honestly and keeps the focus on The Word. The music ministry is incredible as well as the Children’s and Youth Ministries. Join a Life Group and find a small group of folks who study and pray together in fellowship. You will be so inspired when you attend. God bless this church and its leadership.

Pastor Dudley is the best!! God speaks through him. The sermons are so easy to understand. Pastor gives the best explanations, we are truly blessed. Let’s remember to keep him in our daily prayers!! Also there is plenty of parking. Pillars cafe is on campus if you want to come a bit earlier and hang out before sermon.

Very nice people who love to sing and entertain. Spiritually, I didnt get as much biblical knowledge as I wanted. I recommend it for folks who want to sing and be entertained. I dont recommend for people who thirst for the knowledge of God and his word.

On my first visit, everything left me deeply moved. Even in the hot weather, the staff assisting with parking were impressive, and the warm good morning greetings from every staff member were greatly appreciated. I was particularly joyful about the fact that so many people could come together for worship, and I felt grateful to God. The sermon allowed me to reflect on my own life, which I found enriching.Despite the large congregation, the entry and exit were conducted safely and efficiently. Even in the parking lot, there was minimal waiting, making it easy to park and exit.

This was having an event for Christmas, and then they decided to send invites to homeless shelters in the area. But didnt pick any of us up till 1 hour before the event ended. We get there with our three kids and most of the food they were giving out was almost gone. They asked us for a Christmas list for our kids and then when we go get their presents. It wasnt anything we needed just more stuff we cant use. We live in a small room so some of the gifts were really big toys that my 2 year old cant even Comprehend the toys we got him because their was nothing for their age group. Most of the great toys were gone, then they did a Raffle for three or four winners and when they picked out tickets they only picked off the top of 3000 tickets no digging in. Might not go next year and probably wont refer you.

Shepherd has changed my life. God uses the best people to share his word. This church is extraordinary, one of a kind. The word is our guide and I understand all the messages. I never considered myself to be a part of any church, but when I was randomly invited for the first time 5 years ago, I continued to attend on my own and became a part of this life changing church. This place transformed me. Plan on continuing to be a part of it for many years to come.

I’ve been going to this Church for 15+ years. Great people, great sermon, great facilities, great program, and most importantly their fear and love of God. Parking: go to the Medical facility lot next door, and take the shuttle or a quick nice walk. For overflow, park across the street in the mall complex.

Ive always like CPR.. I got my first cake there.. Im come up on 4. In Feb 14 2018. Tonight i was there to celebrate 2 brother in Christ one taking 12yr and the other 2.. It was a blast to see familiar faces.. Very friendly and on time👍also God bless to the Guy that has 17yrs👍

I enjoy the service, but I wish they would allow anybody who needs to exit the service temporarily (i.e. bathroom), to be able to go back to their original seat. The reason they don’t, I was told, for security reasons and so the Pastor does not get distracted, and cameras. However, they do allow people to go upstairs with elevator and then going back down (which is where my seat was), but man I am so sorry, that going to distract all people and The Pastor too? Even more, Right?I really do like the church though, but this seating issue was really confusing for me. The message is great, the praise and worship is really good too. It is a good church, and big enough for find a community of believers especially for people just moving here.I saw a lot of people got stuck outside too and with confused expression of course. Hehe…I am sorry, and God Bless.

What I like most about this church is that nobody bothers you or tries to recruit you into their groups like they do at other churches. I prefer to attend service in peace without being approached and recruited into a Bible study group (I’m already part of one). Plenty of parking. Plenty of seating. Wonderful services, great presentation. I go here almost every Sunday and if I can’t attend I usually stream the service on YouTube. I’ve seen others complain about not being able to return to their seat after getting up in the middle of service. It’s disruptive for everyone else to have to stand up and get out of the way during service so you can leave and come back. If you can’t stay in your seat for 1 hour then just watch the service online.

My faith was restored here after so many years of abandoning my faith. Been coming to this church since then and it’s been about 5 years. The word of the Bible is preached exactly to how it is in a way that it could be applied to modern day. The worship team is amazing. Everyone goes in for their relationship with God.

I dont visit the church often as is approximately 65 miles away from where I live. However, I long to visit it from time to time whenever I visit my sister.I love this church. The praise and worship is out if this world. I feel immersed in Gods glory and love. I also love the simplicity yet strong message the pastors share from the pulpit.Its inspiring and uplifting. Great church! I’ve gone here for 20 amazing years and watched it grow! It’s truly a great church where I feel Gods love and presence along with conviction to be better. I get a sense of love and unity.... Pastor Dudley has a great heart for the lost and it’s my favorite church out of the many I’ve visited. He’s also upbeat and can be funny so keeps people engaged.

The church was created to help people guide and enlighten people to God. But I am really sorry to say these sentences. My family and I did whatever help we could for this church for seven years. Our children were educated in this church and were led to Christ with their help. But just when we needed the help and support of this church, they did not help us. And by saying just one sentence, they avoided this great responsibility (we are sorry). I thank God that this church made our life change.

A Flaw in the listing; In the listing it says “Non-Denominational”- Reality: Shepherd is fully affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention (State Level) which you can find on church finder in SBC. and Church of Christ/Disciples of Christ (Christian Church, a Restoration Movement) which you can find on CrossLink Ministries website and why they Baptize every week as it is required in the COC denomination for salvation. 2) The listing also mentions the year 1995. Shepherd was established in 1991, whereas prior to 1991 it was known as First Baptist of Van Nuys on Kester & Sherman Way. Despite the fact that their website is a little clearer on this subject and contains some glorified marketing information, Shepherd was founded in 1991. The only significant alteration was the omission of the from its original name.Now lets address the concerns raised by others: 1) If you need to use the lavatory during the service, DON’T! There are numerous complaints about this topic, including one here in the reviews!! This issue has resurfaced many, many times since Dudley assumed leadership, and it will not be resolved anytime soon. In this context, the concept of church from the Book of Acts does not exist. You see, Jesus says to ALL who are weary and burdened, Come to me, and I will give you rest. Going to the restroom is a matter of health, but the preaching staff views this as an interruption of someone who may need to hear their (occasionally entertaining) message and ideally find a better path in life. The issue; Its not in anyway biblical to one degree or another, it’s a 501c3 thing as they need everyone to “pay attention” and no, its not of Jesus in any way! So use the restroom before you enter the theatre!!As for the Bethel Glory Fog (Haze or Stage toys); Yes I have seen this as well and its for the Gen Z’s and Millennials primarily to tickle their eyes and ears. The Stage or platform has to stir up some emotions and that’s why this is being used so when you give your “tithe of 10%” that is where some of your revenue is going! When Jesus says “Worship Me in Spirit and in Truth” He is not referring to this entertainment value of their worship. So prepare your hearts separately when you come and don’t let the stage toys be the driving force of your worship.Conclusion: There are many fine churches out there, and many of them engage in outreach, provide resources and support for a variety of causes, and serve as a platform for excellent worship and preaching. Shepherd has the potential to be that church, but I would first connect with a small group or cell group by asking volunteers in the foyer where you can fit in. When you go to Shepherds worship session, keep in mind that in a consumer-driven culture, people are accustomed to having their preferences catered to and seeking experiences that bring instant gratification. To meet these expectations, some churches may use a tickling ears approach, focusing on offering amusing and uplifting teachings rather than asking individuals to examine their lives or confront deeper spiritual truths. I recommend that you separate yourself from the spiritual milk and begin to seek and digest spiritual solid food along the way, and this is where a cell group at Shepherd may be possible to benefit you during those times when a fill-in doctor or others take the podium to give you a positive motivational speech. They are all nice individuals, but you are accountable for your spiritual journey, so pay attention and dont let these diversions take you away from what is truly essential, your relationship with Jesus!

Great church! Very well organized for the high demand of visitors. Church volunteers serve in many areas to make enjoy to the fullest a great spiritual experience. There are lots of parking available and great Christian programs throughout the year. I visited the church for an all day Women’s Conference event and I was delighted! Great place for praising God.

I went to this church this morning to enjoy getting away from a very difficult week and to be uplifted. Instead, they have movie week and this morning they showed scenes from the Passion of the Christ; one of the most violent, graphic movies out there. The minister had his whole sermon taped and showed some of the scenes from the movie. I walked out. I did not go there to get depressed or have to watch such brutality. As I walked out I saw it being played out in the open area with children out there seeing this. Several people were walking out and one woman was crying she was so disturbed. That pastor and management should be ashamed of themselves for pushing that on people. It is expected at Easter, but not for a regular Sunday Service. I hope more people will complain, but at least there will be an honest review of this church, that Pastors lack of integrity, and the chance children will be exposed to brutality.

I met some of the guys who ride with the Shepherd cycling group and got to know them well before attending the church. Pastor Dudley is a super down-to-earth guy who loves people and loves God. He is a great teacher and a little silly too, which makes the service and time with him fun. There is something for everyone here. If youre not finding spiritual sustenance and support for whatever your needs are, its not because of the church and their lack of offerings. They really address so many needs comprehensively and do so in a very professional and caring way.

This review is not out of anger or spite. I just want to warn anyone who is reading this about this church.If you are truly seeking a relationship with the Lord, to become more like Christ, and to really learn His Word in its entirety, this is not the place to do it. This church blatantly patterns itself after Hillsong United and is more focused on creating a brand based on grandiose experiences packed with entertainment rather than on God or the proper ministry of His Word. Theres plenty of spectacular sights and sounds, but theres little to no sign of Jesus in any of it. The teachings in this church are shallow at best and lack any real value for those who want to grow in their faith and understanding. They are designed to keep you comfy in your chair rather than to challenge you to change yourself and align your life with Christ.I also dont recommend getting connected here, although they will very strongly push you to do so. While it may seem like everyone is extremely loving and welcoming when you first start making friends, that all goes away the moment you voice any sort of disagreement with the majoritys view. Similar to a highschool clique, if you question the way things are or disagree with the crowd, it will get you branded as disloyal to Shepherd and its community, and people will turn their backs on you.I could give more reasons, but Ill leave it at this: Pray for this church and its heart, that God would convict those with the decision-making power that they have gotten on the wrong path and need to turn around and humbly turn back to Him. But dont go here yourself. Not if you want to be a part of a body of believers that is focused on the Lord above all else.Matthew 7:21-23.

Went there for the Fall Festival and it was a blast. Even though it was packed, you can walk through no problem. There was so much to do and almost all of it was free. Plus, they had food trucks to purchase if you were hungry for real food. I never realized just how big the church is. People were walking around giving out candy and the staff was very polite, happy and enjoyable to be around. With the exception of some people visiting the place, it was just such a good hearted time and enjoyable for the kids.

This church teaches you the true word of God. All the pastors know how to make us understand the Bible. I grew up Catholic and my entire life I didn’t understand, what the Bible said. But since I joined Shepherd church, I finally come to learn and understand The word of God and how it really flows into our lives and it is our life. This church has a way of “translating the Bible into our daily life and our problems and situations” and make it comprehend that we are Gods children and he is here for us. You have to be patient and dedicate yourself to it, you won’t get it when you attend church once a year. You have to be dedicated to go every Sunday. We have a whole series that teach us about a subject for several weeks and hen we start another one and over time, you will come to understand.You are always welcomed to go after service and speak to someone, if you need assistance, prayer etc.I love the worship team, they are very upbeat and makes you want to sing along and dance! Shoutout to CHRISTINE MILLER! What a voice!We have the Pillars cafe with a book store that’s great and great prices, great coffee, great food.Program for children their own classes with teachers and their own youth program.It’s a very well rounded and very good spirited community.I love my church - Go Shepherd!

Served there for 20 years. Love the people. Everything has changed so much so. Sunday school for the kids became more of a worship time. All of the ministries I was involved in are gone now. We used to serve the community and other members. The womens ministry used to have great retreats and luncheons. Those are gone now. Its too big and almost impossible to have a wedding or a funeral there. The final straw is that they got rid of the young adults church service. Just lost all of my kids. The focus seems to be on being a mega church now and I dont like someone screaming at me and telling me how horrible I am. I would rather have the focus on the love of Jesus, faith and following Jesus, theology, the ten commandments. I get enough of the news and politics already. I know which way to vote. I dont need to hear about that in church. And the music is too loud. I dont want to have to wear earplugs at church.

I been to about 8 different churches since I been in California since 2013. Shepard church is by far the best one. It has so many things to offer. Perfect for families and different ethnicities. The preaching was on point, the choir was great, and definitely the best church in Southern California. The Dome itself was just breathing.

Ive only visited the churchs premises twice, but from my perspective, the church is a fantastic church due to their community involvement to project the love of Christ, and that its a mega church with many programs to offer families and the community. They have a hugh sanctuary with many connected buildings for multiple services offered to members and the community. Also, its nested in a picturesque location near mountains, great shopping centers and restaurants. Highly recommended.

I have been here for most of my life, since i was 5 mabye... I am 12 now, and this church still never makes me feel old. They have a selection of the best preacher, and the best topics. I never got bored in this church. There is even a playground for toddlers, and a service, for children. There is a tram service which you get to the building faster. I know many people that go here. Best church.

Visiting from Las Vegas and Shepard Church reminds me so much of the crossings where I go every Sunday. I was brought here by someone who regularly attends. Words can’t sat how amazing the service is here! The message is so powerful and God is working so brilliantly through the pastors. For a church it’s size all the volunteers do an amazing job from parking, seating, and all throughout service. I know the lord is my savior and I read the bible, but I have not been to any church in a long time. I went to the Easter service today and really enjoyed it. This church truly serves the Lord in many ways it has programs for youth for adults for seniors for those who wish to use their talents to help others or to help the church by volunteering their time, its an amazing place the word of God here is spoken openly freely and truthfully. Scriptures here are explained simply and truthfully and you can back it up by reading the scriptures yourself youre invited to bring your own Bible and listen to the word of God. Fantastic music,and if you tune into Shepherd Live on your computer on Sunday morning at 9, youll be able to see a live service and what its like, all are welcome.the size of the church may be a little intimidating, I was intimidated in the beginning, I like a small Church however when you enter the doors youll find very friendly faces, theres the Pillars Cafe if you want to stop in for a little breakfast in the morning, its attached to the church and theres a screen in there where you can actually watch the service also, so if you come early you wont miss breakfast. The parking lot fills up very quickly so my advice is be at least a half an hour early.

I have volunteered at the church a couple of times and my experience was fantastic I will for sure keep contributing to this church. Come join us for worship! This is a place filled with love and a true love of God! The services are awesome, we have a great pastoral team, there are life groups, missions, many types of choirs as well as groups that serve the community and so much more like community outreach thru special events like our 4th of July Spectacular. I have been a member since 2005 and I always feel at home. It is my place of peace and sanctuary, especially if Im having a rough week! Worst church ever! Discriminates against homeless people and the security harasses them and kicks homeless off of the property along with the main people at the church having a problem saying we are loitering when we are just sitting down resting, this church is the most unwelcoming place in the valley! They only care about the money they get from “donations” when they have a 100 million dollar facility with enough room for EVERBODY. HORRIBLE PLACE!

When i first came to this church back in 1998 I thought I will catch them all, its a big conspiracy. To my surprise that wasn’t the case at all. This church actually cares for everyone, even those who oppose this church. I’ve now been coming here now about 23 years since I’ve thought this was a big conspiracy. Well i was proved wrong, this is a very healthy Christ like church. They really reach out to help as many people as possible . Now my 5 daughters come here and their friends come here. I love my church. Pastor Dudley preaches directly from the Bible. My family and I have known the Rutherford’s for a very long time. They are the real deal! Their focus is reaching the lost for Christ.Our church offers so many different classes for our kids and our youth. In addition, there are also grief, veterans, and divorce support groups. Our Life Groups help you connect people and provide them with support from a smaller more intimate group that delves into Gods word weekly. I am so blessed to have found this church.

Best church ⛪ iv ever been too. Happy fun and I learn a lot. I have been moved in my soul by the preaching and music of this church I have felt feelings of God /Jesus truly being present and feel hooked and im not one to be religious but I feel his Love and word and this place is legit. I’m thankful for my mom and brother that told me of this place. I don’t like waking up early but for the word of God at this place I’m up and ready to learn and feel his love again plus it’s like heading to a concert lol it’s awesome. This is a great non-denominational Christian church based on what is written in the New Testament. Services always include a communion which I really appreciate. Pastor Dudley Rutherford has always been on point with his message, and I have been inspired to come back to church. I normally attend a service onSaturday at 6 PM. Pastor Dudleys messages are powerful and pierce straight through to my heart. Its as if he knows what Im going through and as if God is talking directly at me through him. Ive been going to Shepherd for the past two years. Im Jewish. I love the fact that this pastor loves Israel. He goes there almost every other year. But besides that, this man is an example to me and a role model of what it is to follow Christ. He is clearly anointed. This is one of my favorite places to be! I have been here for over 6+ years and have participated in many of the events. The people here are for real and truly love Jesus. Pastor Dudley is amazing and is an excellent teacher of the word. You walk away having learned something new and having been treated well. Dudleys story of why he wanted a multi-racial church is inspiring and reminds me that there are obedient Pastors in the world who want to make a difference and train those who want to know, who God really is. I love working with the 2 year olds monthly as they keep me on my toes :) They have snacks on sunday (bagels with cream cheese, doughnuts, juice, coffee) and on saturday evenings, they sometimes have food trucks. I must say that SOTH (Shepherd of the Hills) is one church that truly gives back to their volunteers. I have a great beach chair, water bottles, shirts, gift cards, amazing dinners at the church (catered & donated by Outback Steakhouse & Macaroni Grill). We all volunteer as a family at various events and the kids actually enjoy themselves. They also have great music!!!!!!!! Its really a fun and cool place to go. Shepherd has the most AMAZING JULY 4TH SPECTACULAR! If youve never gone, you truly are missing something big!!!!!!!!!!! There are soooooooooooooo many food and fun vendors its ridiculous. This year was especially cool to me. This year the staff stopped a guy who was passing out religious information at the church event. You would think thats fine? Its a church having a community event. Well, they stopped him because thats exactly what it is, a community event. Church service is on Saturday & Sundays and that wasnt time for church! It was time for community bonding and celebration! Wow what a message! I am constantly reminded how great this church is and why I come. It NOT without problems, but its how they work it out that impresses me.

Lost a SoulSo, I decided to visit Shepherd Church today, to see if this is a potential church I could attend (that is closer to home). The praise and worship was good, the message was also good (Salvation Message for those on milk). During the alter call or call to salvation-being conducted by the Pastor-a young man (early 20s) was excited to be saved. As he was approaching the alter I heard him say something to the extent I want to go to heaven-he was clearly new to the church/first time visitor-and I looked at him and saw his excitement to accept salvation. Before I new it one of the security guards did a Push & Grab. Side Bar: why does a man of THE God who is omnipresent, who is our protector and will not allow a hair on his childs head to be harmed need body guards? This baffles me, is it just me? God is my protector. So he pushed him so hard I heard the thump, then grabbed him by his tshirt and dragged by pushing him backwards saying (in an aggressive tone)what are you doing up here, your not supposed to come right now! (Mind you the other gaurd came from across the room ready to rumble also). How is he to know? I was right in the front row. What if I wasnt saved and I decided to go up to the alter before time? It is custom that as the call to salvation is taking place the people approach the alter. Who knew that you have to wait until the words ready, set, GO! (sarcasm but you get my drift) are spoken? Would I have been assaulted too? There was a better way to handle the situation being this is the church SOP. The guard could have operated in Agape. My first reaction was dissapointment, then hurt in my heart. I had to hold my tears back. Today the enemy won and we lost a soul, TODAY. I pray that young man does not allow this experience to keep him from salvation.

Very little appreciation for the people who work their butts off for free. They expect Sunday staff to work for free for the full day. Dudley gets a free home and car donated from Galpin.
