I have had 2 visits to see Doctor Prendiville. He is very professional. Takes his time and takes time to answer questions. The staff were professional and friendly. There is a comfortable waiting area.

I’m soon to be 70 and have never had my eyes dilated to check for disease or cataracts. My primary referred me to Shaaf Eye Center. Dr. Prendiville is adorable, very professional and customer service oriented as well as his staff. I look forward to seeing him next year for exam. Grateful that I only need reading glasses for now but you never know.

I was referred to Dr Shaaf from Palm Desert Regional on an emergency basis. He was able to fit me in as an emergency patient within hours; --took the time to explain my condition and was reassuring and informative. At a follow up appointment he was again helpful reassuring and explained how to move forward as my my condition lessened.

For everything that is medically related to my surgery for two cataracts, I would give Dr. Prendiville and his Staff five stars. However, because of the consistently poor customer service, I can only give 4.The condition of my eyes, the surgical options, the lens options, the timetable for surgery, and the prices of the various options were explained clearly and understandably.I have MS and I use a walker. The staff was unable to consistently understand that I needed special care in accessing chairs and equipment. On several occasions, when the testing or consultation was completed, the staff would leave the room without retrieving my walker or helping me get off the elevated foot shelf of the exam chairs.Dr. Prendiville began each appointment by saying “it is good to see you, Mr Green,” while turned away from me and looking at data on the monitor.

Without a doubt, the worst medical office experience I have ever had. I would give zero stars if I could.I came into Dr. Shaaf’s office on a referral thru Kaiser medicare advantage. He diagnosed two procedures for me, cataract surgery on both eyes and keratin tissue removal on both eyes. Five months and about 10 phone calls later for something that really should’ve taken about two weeks. He got the approval from Kaiser.After initially scheduling me for surgery at the surgery center they changed the location to his office at the last moment with no explanation. When I went in the doctor said that he didn’t do the keratin removal procedure or he hadn’t in 25 years because it was a manual scraping of the cornea and he hadn’t done it since he was a resident.He told me I would have to go to a different doctor to have the procedure done by laser since he didn’t do the surgery using a laser. He also said I could go ahead and get the cataract surgery done elsewhere as well, and gave me the name of a doctor about 100 miles away to go and see.I asked him why he would authorize a procedure. he hadn’t done in 25 years and which obviously he had no intention of doing and his only answer was there must’ve been some kind of a mistake! ( oh really!!??)I practiced Dentistry for 30 years and I know the games that doctors play. I cannot say with absolute certainty, but the impression I got was that he authorized for that procedure because he never intended to do it because he didn’t want to work on me probably because I was a Medicare patient and he wasn’t being compensated adequately, or at least as much as he would like. Doctors in my experience will often run around Medicare Medi-Cal. And HMO patients until the patient finally gets tired of the run around and go somewhere else.He obviously wants to keep his Kaiser referral base but he doesn’t want the Medicare advantage patients ostensibly because they don’t pay enough. I could be wrong, but what other reason could he have for authorizing a procedur he hadn’t done in 25 years and obviously didn’t intend to do?While this doesn’t rise to the level of malpractice it is in my opinion, malfeasance and unethical I wouldn’t be surprised if other senior citizens like myself, have gotten the runaround from him. If not, good for them, but I certainly did. I reported him To Kaiser, and May will send a copy of this to the California board of medical examiners. If you did this to me, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was not the first. I hope by writing this, I will be the last.

I went to Dr. Prendiville with a corneal abrasion that was causing me excruciating pain. Dr. Prendiville quickly assessed the situation and applied a bandaid lens that almost immediately relieved the pain. Then, he prescribed curative drops scheduled a follow-up meeting to make sure the problem was solved. I highly recommend Dr. P. He is knowledgeable, thorough, professional, and caring.

This was probably the worst “medical” experience I have ever experienced. From my first consultation where I was berated by Dr . P’s nurse for my profession as a defense attorney to being promised from the beginning to a receipt for the upgraded lenses not covered by most insurances (but covered by my supplemental plan) to the 8 weeks and countless requests by phone and in person for such invoices to the threat the day of surgery on the second eye that the surgery would be cancelled if I didn’t pay for the upgrade even though the wouldn’t provide invoices for the first eye yet…to the bills threatening collections if I didn’t pay the difference between their published rate and their contracted rate with my insurance company which is insurance fraud…Really, we deserve someplace far more professional.

From the moment you step into Shaaft Eye Center it is a pleasant experience. The girls in the front office are very friendly and professional and the girls who do your eye tests, prior to seeing Dr. Prendiville are amazing! My mother had an emergent eye issue with shingles in her eye and miraculously Dr. Prendiville and his office was able to accomodate her SAME day which is unheard of. Recently started experiencing problems with my left eye. I am a very healthy 70 year old with very few medical problems my entire life. So this was very unusual, and immediately scheduled an appointment with my personal doctor. She examined me and referred me to Shaaf Eye Center. Anxious now to find out what was wrong with my vision in my left eye, contacted Dr. Shaafs office and was fortunate to have Regina answer the phone. She said earliest appointment was a week out and that was understandable, but she went the extra mile and was able to get me in the next day for an eye exam, she could since my anxiety to find out what was wrong. Showed up and was greeted by a very friendly staff and to my surprise was in an exam room within 15 minutes. After preliminary testing, Dr. Shaaf came in and was very professional, friendly and thorough. Had eye exam and happy to say all ended well... I would highly refer Dr. Shaafs office to anyone looking for a friendly, professional eye center.

I came in to get stitches removed from my eyelid. (Frank Parker). The nurses did not seem to know that. After 50 minute wait finally led to an exam room. Had a fill eye test, fourth time in 3 weeks, and the she was going to dilate numb my eyes. I asked her why but she moved ahead until she saw the stitches. Led me to another waiting area. Now the people who came in after me had their eyes dilated etc and exams and left. Finally got moved to an exam room again and few minutes later doc comes in (I like this guy) looks a bit figures out the computer is wrong on my appointment. Then leans me back close my eye, stitches removed, 2 minutes. 9:35 appointment I walk out at 10:55, nobody’s in the waiting room. Gave this 3 stars because Dr Shaaf did his job so well. Staff not so much.

Im new to the area and had an eye issue that was causing me some pain. so I had been going to an ophthalmologist for this before and needed to find a good doctor in this area. I had read the great reviews here and was able to schedule an appointment the same day which I so much appreciated since it was Friday and I didnt want the pain to ruin my weekend. This place is the best place with eye surgery, no complains in that aspect. The thing that ticked me off was my mother not knowing well English fluent in Spanish had a appointment at 8am and for the reason that she didn’t take a interpreter they skipped her. Did not attend her till 11:30, didn’t tell her why they skipped her till that time. Customer service is not great at all, having employees that speak Spanish could of let her know seen she got their or could of gave her a call to bring her own interpreter. She’s been here before for her eye surgery, this problome has never happened before. As she pays out of her pocket for your guys services, you guys should work on your communication skills. Ive been a patient for years. I was notified by telephone voice message that my appointment 4 days from the telephone call is cancelled because they no longer accept my Medicare Advantage Plan. California Medical Board rules require the physician to 1. notify me in writing of last day of medical care; 2. inform me of alternative sources of medical care.; 3. notify me in writing how to obtain medical records, who to contact, how to contact and where to make this request.A complaint with the California Medical Board has been filed.
