Visited today for the first time.Ive owned a Sony A6000 for about five years and Ive been considering upgrading either to an A6700 or A7iii/A7iv. I figured that I would come into a local shop, chat with the employees to figure out which camera best suits my photography hobby, and then come back when ready to purchase one so I could support a local camera shop.The employee who helped me wasnt helpful at all. The most he could say about the a6700 was that the reviews say its great. I mentioned Im looking to improve my low light results and thats why Im leaning toward an a7 and how that would mean needing to sell my lenses from my a6000, and he said nope you dont need to! Which, while correct, IMO totally defeats the point of upgrading to a full-frame because the lens would retain the crop factor.I also asked what the comparison is like between a6000 and a6700 specifically for lighting, if the usable ISO range is better and helps more on the newer model compared to the a6000, and he had nothing to say.He also couldve admitted to not being knowledgeable on these particular cameras and referred me to a colleague but he didnt.He also didnt ask what my photography style is or what I shoot most often or why Im looking at either camera for the upgrade or why I feel the need to upgrade at all.The shop is clearly well-stocked with gear and equipment but if youre looking for guidance on a camera Im not sure this is the right place.My hope was Id nail down which path to choose for my next camera based on my needs with advice from someone whos more experienced with a wider range of gear and I didnt get that at all.Unfortunately I dont think I feel comfortable supporting the shop when Im ready to buy.

Amazing service great people I had a problem with my Sony A6300 screen going dark when turned on an angle and they were able to quickly address and fix it in one minute (a sensor had some oil on it and I’m so glad I called here because they knew exactly the issue without taking apart the camera. Impressive and logical thank you so much for your help highly recommend!!! If only more businesses like this existed!

Went in for a charger the guy helping me Confirmed the charger worked before I bought it — I got home and it indeed did not work. Guy seemed like a no it all.. customer service felt like he was trying to rush a sale or trying to get you out the way to do nothing .. affordable cameras but need a working charger so will be back to return it hopefully with no issue!

It’s rare you go out of your way to purchase from brick and mortar vs online these days - but that’s one of the many draws of SJ Camera. It’s worth the effort. Their staff is knowledgeable beyond belief - especially helpful when making an investment in camera equipment. Large selection of the latest and greatest that you can hold and play with in their store. The fact they’ve been here for 35+ years is testament to the efficiency of this establishment. Sure, some of their staff can come off as camera snobs sometimes, but that’s why I go there - you’re buying from experts who aren’t trying to upsell you on things you don’t need (quite the contrary). Paul is my favorite - been going to him for years and he’s got a great demeanor - and a ton of experience.

A hidden gem for camerasVery low-key place for camera lovers.I was surprised to see how much they have in there.Their camera and lens renting is very nice option.They buy and sell cameras and camera equipment. They also have other big camera buyers come and do a buy event.Give them a shot, highly recommend

I had a last minute issue with a solar filter prior to the 2024 eclipse and had to buy solar film last minute. I talked with Mike and Chris over two separate phone calls. During those the phone calls, both were professional and knowledgable. And went above and beyond to answer all my questions and providing guidance on how to best attach the solar film filter to my Canon telephoto lens. By the time everything was done it was around 4pm PST, the UPS driver had already stopped by earlier that day. Instead of waiting until the next day to send off my solar film, one of them drove to the nearest UPS store to drop off the package to ensure my solar film got delivered in time for the eclipse. I can not express my gratitude to the folks at San Jose Camera & Video for helping me!

They have a wide range of gear. And their staff is usually very helpful with questions. Their prices are usually higher than market though. So helps to know what you’re looking for and do your research beforehand.

Found this store due to random luck. Went inside they have a huge selection of camera equipment and cameras itself. I was able to rent lenses from them a few times so far. Fairly price too especially if you are planning to drop $3k on a lens, good way to test it out before making that investment.
