Softest texture and not too sweet. Sunday open hours meant I was able to bring some back fresh to Boston for the start of the week. 🙌🏼 They weren’t taken from my carry-on bags by airplane security, despite soft red bean fillings! (Anything “spreadable” like peanut butter not allowed.) Wished I bought more!

Sakuraya is an incredibly unassuming little shop that serves delicious mochi, the texture and taste were awesome in my opinion. The older lady that was running the shop was so friendly and helped me pick stuff out. It has a very hidden gem mom and pop shop kind of vibe.Also be sure to bring cash! Mochis run from about $2.50-$3.00 each.I drove more than an hour to visit this place and I’d definitely say it was worth the trip for truly traditionally made mochi.

Wow. ive had mochi made from scratch before, and even tried it myself, but thiiiis! unbeatable. the freshest and most delicious mochi i have had. tastes freshly pounded versus the use of rice flour. a great diversity of flavors and types of sweets. a box would be a great gift to anyone. 信じられない 🙏🏽

Very simple place but very nice selection of Mochi. Reminded me when I was a kid. Remember only Cash and Checks had to go across the street to the market to get cash. They are going to make a great present for our neighbors who just went to Japan on vacation.

It’s definitely a hole in the wall, mom and pop style traditional (or historic?) mochi store. I was told that the family business has been around for 58years, and the current owners are the second generation.Their mochi and manju tasted very fresh and flavorful. You can tell that they only make small portion of their produce each day which I appreciate. You can tell it’s all about the quality!! 👍🏻

Tastiest mochis youll ever have. Balance of its texture and just the perfect amount of nuanced sweetness make for the ideal mochi. If you get ten mochis (suggest getting two each of the different available flavors), its friendly staff will package it neatly and makes for a tasty gift package!

This shop has been here for years, and my family visits every time were here. Its hard to come by quality manjyu where we are from, so Sakura-yas is a special treat. They offer a good variety, everyone can find a favorite!

Dont let the storefront fool you! This cash-only Mochi establishment has amazing mochi to taste! I was surprised by the mochi and azuki bean sandwiched between a pancake! It was one of the best mochi Ive had. My boyfriend liked the kinako-dusted mochi! Friendly owner, too! Must try!

Customer service needs much improvement - cashier is a surly older Asian (60s) lady giving stink-eye to customers and struggles to mutter Thank You. Doesnt even offer receipt so you hope shes punching everything in honestly. Younger girl boxing up mochi is bright & friendly though. Mochi is decent, though not as flavorful as Chikara Mochi or Mikawaya brands. Not worth the drive for their extremely limited selection. Street parking in front of store only on busy Western Ave. $2.60 per mochi is average price (higher $ for the seasonal sakura mochi).

The older lady with the glassesover charged me for a box of mochi,Ordered 16pcs but charged me as 20pcs and no receipt, So there is no way to confront the issue once you leave the store.Furthermore the young girl who packed the mochi doesnt even say hi or thank you....never coming back.

One of 3 best known Japanese mochi shops in LA area (Chikara Mochi in Gardena and Fugetsu-Do in Little Tokyo) . Each have their own devoted fans. Personally I like the texture and taste of Sakuraya more than other 2. The store does not look like much from the outside, but the mochi they make are wonderful.Chikara Mochi is located just few steps away, literally like 15 seconds walk. I honestly would recommend anyone whos never been to either shop to get couple pieces from each shop and decide which they like better, then go back to buy more. Because, lets be honest, who in the world eats only one piece of mochi, right?Fugetsu-Do in Little Tokyo has been around for more than 100 years. If you ever visit Little Tokyo in LA, go visit them!!

Delicious mochi in an unassuming, very mom&pop location. Pull up and park in front of the shop, don’t be intimidated by the plain exterior, and have cash ready for a wonderful assortment! You can’t go wrong with getting “one of each” though I always leave with extra of that soft, pillowy chi-chi dango.There are so few mochi shops left in California (in the Bay Area, I think there are only 2 - one in SF Japantown and the other in San Jose Japantown). This is one of the rare gems in SoCal besides Fugetsu-do and Chikara down the street (not counting Mikawaya because I think they only do mochi ice cream?).

This place has been around since 1960. They have a good variety of mochi and manju. Not as extensive as one would think, but what they do, they do very well. Their mochi is always so soft and made fresh every day. Simply put, nothing can compare.

THE best mochi and manju Ive found in the greater LA area (the orange manju is our favorite!). My Japanese-American in-laws tipped us off to this place. Its an unassuming hole-in-the-wall, so dont be put off. Late in the day they may be out of the yummies, so come early if you can, or call ahead and order. Cash or check only.

All were very very delicious! Very friendly people and informative as to how to keep all sweets as fresh as possible. Pretty wrapping that takes no longer than a minute. Parking on street. Worth trying.
