This Safeway location is a larger store with a wide variety of products. However, it is important to note that the hours of operation listed on Google Maps are incorrect as of the date of this review. I arrived at 11:05 p.m. to find the doors already locked, which unfortunately prevented me from completing my grocery shopping that evening.

June 6th 2024 11:40 pm. I checked the website. I checked Google. Yet, just like before, theyve changed their hours again back to 11:00 p.m. closing . Had I known I would have gone to a closer and open Safeway instead of driving all the way over here. This Safeway has a larger selection than the others so thats why I came. But I now am regretting my choice now that Krogers bought Albertsons which bought Safeway, theres really no competition to force Safeway to improve its customers experience.Like most Safeways in the San Francisco area, the hours listed on Google maps or found through Google search are not accurate. Right now Im at the 16th Street Safeway which according to the Google results and the map listing was supposed to be open till 12 am. I assure you it is not. In fact all of the Safeways that are listed in the San Francisco area as closing at 12:00 a.m. in fact seem to close at 11:00 p.m..Im sure Safeway is in charge of its own commercial listing. It should update these hours to reflect the actual hours its open. These hours have been wrong for over a year--since the pandemic.It cost time and gas to get to a Safeway across town in the middle of the night. Safeway could at least do us the courtesy of making sure that these late night stores hours are accurately reflected in their listings.

This review is regarding the bakery. I checked photos online and had my kid pick out a birthday cake from the options shown. Go in to order, and the one he chose isnt in the book anymore, so they cant make it. So I take photos of what they do offer and have him pick again. Call in the order to be picked up the next day. When I arrive, the cake is done, but the cake topper does not match the photo or the theme of the cake (Mickey and Minnie pirate cake with just regular Mickey and Minnie toppers). In the end, its not a big deal, but its annoying that the online options dont match the store options and they are offering a cake in-store but dont actually have the items to match the photo of the cake. The woman working said they dont give her the matching topper for that cake. If I had known that, I wouldnt have ordered the pirate cake. 3 stars because the cake was good, it was made on time, and the employees were as helpful as they could be, but the whole experience was frustrating and annoying.

The worst Safeway in the city. They removed self checkout lanes and made my grocery shopping a nightmare. They don’t have enough cashiers for such big amount of people.Today I was waiting in line more than 10 minutes to pay for one sour cream.The store is full of dirt and drug addicts who put on a freak show every time. Few days ago there was dog poop smeared all over the floor. One time one of the security guards used pepper spray on someone when I was around and it burnt my nose and eyes.That’s almost impossible to catch a butcher in the meat&seafood aisle although there is special bell to call for someone. Every time I waited for 5+ minutes and they look at me like they’re doing me a favor.Deli aisle is full of asian women who barely speak English. No offense but I don’t think it’s acceptable if you work in customer service.A lot of stuff is locked and you need to press help button and wait for a worker to come and help you. Sometimes it takes too long, sometimes batteries in help buttons are dead and you need to run around the store trying to find anybody and beg them to help you. This is humiliating and not acceptable.One more important thing to say. Sometimes when you pay you’re offered to take a servey on the sensor screen and today the cashier had the audacity to put 10 star for me and when I said that I’m not agree and I’m gonna put zero she just canceled the operation and didn’t let me pay so my opinion will not be counted.You guys don’t deserve even 1 star and I only go to this store because I deliver groceries through one popular app. The only thing I feel sorry about is customers who wait for their orders much longer.

There was an old lady at checkout who refused to sell an item I picked from the store. She was not nice at all. Ultimately all personnel on Safeway chains have become very rude and unhelpful to people. Safeway should ensure to hire quality employees, otherwise the store will lose customers. Bad service as always. Not recommended unless I hear improvement statements.

A supermarket chain with plenty of options to choose from in a spacious location that was looking neat: all clean and perfectly organized. High amounts of ready to eat meals for good/acceptable prices. Staff was helpful and both the salads and the tomato soup that I bought were yummy. They offer discounts for members and when I said that I didnt have a membership card, the staff lend me one so I wouldnt miss the savings.

How do you work for a retail giant whose CEO makes billions a year, has you on food-stamps, gives you measly benefits, if any, but here you are picking up his crumbs.Today this all-star, loss prevention staff pictured below, cornered a middle aged lady by the door, made her cry(!), and aggressively and ruthlessly searched through her bags, grabbed her, and got really close to her as she was visibly uncomfortable and in distress. keep in mind, she was not even resisting the bag check nor was she being violent, yet: Rambo, 1 police officer, and a uniformed security were on the scene and somehow managed to make an older lady cry. Great job guys. You did it.Seriously though, stop using your worst tempered and most aggressive staff as loss prevention (or is that the job requirement?). They are not mentally equipped to handle customers. They actually think they are Rambo. This guy went on a one minute rant very aggressively and controntational and called me ignorant and discriminated me as he told me I wasn’t from here and asked where I was from, all for asking him why he was acting like that (lol). Mind you, I was at no point aggressive or confrontational at all (look at your cams). In fact, I simply stood there calm cool and collected, rant went on long enough for me to pull out my phone and shift the conversation to instead audio record the theatre I was witnessing because (1) I’m not deranged enough to go along with his rant and (2) I was not seeking to argue. I was just there for the older lady and thought I’d ask a harmless question. In the end, I bared witness to a full-on display text book definition of toxic masculinity. This guy was full-on projecting his anger and all his internal issues towards this poor lady and the rest of the people who witnessed.You’re better off putting Rambo on cashier #5 instead of chasing after old ladies.Or send him home so he can cool off and reflect on his ugly behavior. And also please give this guy some dental insurance. He got so close to me while on his power trip that I was able to smell his breath, which reeked!. But seriously, he should get his gums checked out because he has yellow tar in between his gums. brushing and flossing goes a long way. cant be the only one who has smelled his rotting breath.

Beware of the poke bowl if they pull it out of the refrigerator. The fish is not fresh. I paid $13 and I couldn’t eat the fish. No excuse for that. I will never ever shop that deli again. A lot of the food looks pretty pathetic. It was as disgusting as it looks.

The Safeway store in the Portrero shopping Center is a good store and very important to the residents that live near the Mission district, Portrero Hill, and near the Van Ness corridor. To review Safeway soley on emotions is shorting the real importance of this store. I have worked near the store for 15 years and i can respect the existence of Safeway. I especially respect how Safeway supports the community with great produce, a deli counter, and the everyday staples needed to function in life. The store survived the Shelter In Place conundrum and by doing so kept the community healthy and safe. All I can say is Thank you.

Cant say Ive had a problem at this Safeway. The aisles seem to be clean and well organized. Security guards are present at the exits and the parking lot has video cameras. Prices are tease, especially if you sign up for their membership or use app coupons.

Since my last review, it looks like they finally posted their hours on the door (though theyre still incorrect here). Theyve also removed self-checkout, but thankfully they actually had a a cashier at an express lane. And an alarm was left to run for at least the second half of my shopping trip despite the apparently ample security. But dont you worry too much about changes because customers are still leaving perishable food items in inappropriate places for all to enjoy.-. ----Original Review---Apparently they dont keep their hours updated online and will threaten you as a potential criminal after hours if you inadvertently think theyre open.Dropped by at 11:30pm to a smug security guard telling me they were closed as I got out of my car, then him telling me they closed at 11 (despite them listed here as being open until 12am). No big deal. As I got in my car and was driving away, their parking lot security system was sure to announce that I was trespassing and was being recorded.I get it - the area is poor and Im sure theres plenty of theft. But damn, you going to install an after-hours minefield too? Your customers are not criminals, especially if you fail in keeping your info up to date. Geez.

Some crazy stuff happens at this Safeway and sometimes you cant help but laugh but this is about the store not the patronage -Lots of selection, bulk prices you cant find elsewhere, high end quality items, and a mix of all those unwholesome delicious junk foods you occasionally like to snack on that you cant find when you go to an all natural store. There are some items that cant be found here but no one store is perfect, I think they call that a monopoly... I absolutely love the floral department and can tell they put effort into it. The only two things that makes me give 4 stars is the fact that theres almost no staff in the isles. If youre looking lost no one comes up to you and asks if youre finding what you need, if you have a question you have to go to checkout half the time, the departments dont know anything about other departments so dont bother asking deli where the cereal isle is, and last... I know its a poor area but the lock down on simple items is just too much. It takes forever most of the time to get someone to grab cough syrup from pharmacy or toothpaste from the body isle... I think theyre working on that recently and I know of a few really dedicated and amazing team members there who love to help others but if theyre not there the store falls apart. Hold on to them, you know who they/you are.:)

Dont rent a Rug Doctor from this location. If you do, make sure you check it really well before leaving the store. I got a unit that was, unbeknownst to me, caked in cat litter and animal fur.I knew something was up once I got the unit home and opened it to find the dirty water receptacle had what appeared to be lots of gravel in the bottom of it...not the usual specks of dirt you might see left over. I had to take the container outside to hose it down. Since I noticed that clue I decided I should check beneath the unit. Cat litter and fur was caked all over the bottom and the brush. I was on a time limit so I spent 30 minutes cleaning it off thinking that would be faster than running the thing back to the store and possibly not being able to get a different unit. Anyway, once I spent all that time cleaning up someone elses mess I used the unit like I normally would...to find that despite not seeing any further litter or fur on the unit it somehow deposited more of it on my carpet...maybe it was lodged up inside and I loosened it or something and it came out of the cracks. Regardless, it was disgusting. Im warning you here because the person I very kindly informed behind the customer service counter gave me the least sincere sorry, without even looking me in the eye...and that was all he said. He literally said nothing else when I told him.So - who knows if they charged the person before me the cleaning fee they profess to charge if you return the unit dirty. Personally I think it should go to me since Im the person who had to waste all of that time doing a disgusting job...not to mention my carpets look and feel clean but theres that gross sensation that maybe theyre just tainted in some persons pets hair and feces. So gross.For the record, this probably would have been avoided if their customer service had just listened to me for one moment. I was patient and kind and let him know I had a problem with the unit, and he didnt even look at me when I explained what happened and then all he said was an apathetic sorry. Also for the record, we dont have pets so none of it was my pet hair or litter or anything. Just disgusting.

Free cigarette butts at the entrance by the trash cans. Sometimes a creepy clown (which is a dude on drugs in ratty clown clothes) serenades you as you enter. Its really beautiful.Everything you want is locked up. Including wet wipes.Dont leave your valuables in your car.

This Safeway is quaint to say the most especially for its location but it definitely packs a lot into such a little space I gave them 4 stars because they didn’t have any eggnog which is why I went in to begin with. What they do have is a super friendly staff even the security guards go out of their way to help the parking is in a garage located off Townsend and easy to get in and out but don’t forget to get your parking validated or you will be forced to pay or break through the guard rail which is easy enough to do if your not worried about your paint job great produce selection and if you have found that your tight on your budget you can go late in the day and the two emergency exit doors by self checkout will appear to be locked and may even have some stuff in front of them but they are in fact unlocked without any kind of alarm it’s against the law for the store to lock them and usually nobody is guarding them so you can just push a cart out I’ve never done a whole cart but a couple sandwiches in a big pocket and a juice is not a problem for most. But you didn’t hear that from me 😉. It’s also close to AT&T park which allows you to bring in sandwiches and other outside food into a game which is pretty awesome. Cal train is right across the street to. So you can grab a spicy tuna roll for your train ride home.

Ordered my sons first birthday cake from here. They did everything but write his name on it as instructed (we added the decorations ourselves). When we asked them to do it, the guy who managed the bakery looked and walked out of the bakery. The only other person there didnt speak English. After I got the point across, she did a horrible job at writing it (see picture). The instructions and spelling of the name were large and printed very clearly on the paper. I dont know how the decorator missed it in the first place. Then, we also realized that the cake was cracked in several places. This was not worth anywhere near what we paid for it.. I WILL NOT order from here again.

Again, need to post another review. Worst shopping experience I’ve ever had in my life.Only been there twice, but both times customer service sucked.Everything is behind locked glass doors. So to be able to purchase anything you need someone to unlock the door.First time I waited 40 minutes, nobody showed. I finally gave up, even after asking the checkout lady if she had a key. She didn’t.Second time, today, same problem. I waited 20 minutes. But this time I caught the guy with the keys just when he was leaving the store (probably to get high). I yelled (pretty loudly) “hey can you open a cabinet for me”?He opened the cabinet, but then told me he had to bring it over to the checkout counter.Only problem he didn’t tell me which counter. And the checkout person, when I asked her about my stuff, gave me a blank stare like she never heard about anyone leaving stuff at her counter. 😣. Jesus Christ.Again, luckily, I caught him again when he was just leaving the store (to get high). He told me which counter.In the end I got my stuff. But what a nightmare!

For a grocery store in SF, it’s not too bad. I went on a Friday night and there was only one cashier so the line to checkout took 15 minutes. I was buying alcohol so I couldn’t do self checkout but that would’ve been way faster.

The Safeway located on 16th and Potrero Streets, SF was a pleasant experience. There were no shopping carts inside or outside the store, so I asked the security guard for one. He was so nice and without hesitation, he went to look one for me. When he gave it to me, he said for me to have a good day. What a pleasant surprise to start my shopping. I went to buy the corned beef on sale and when I couldnt find one with the sale price, I asked the butcher. He said they sold out within a few minutes and suggested I purchase a better cut or come back tomorrow. Since I took the bus, I wasnt coming back so I bought a better cut. Then I asked for the salmon on sale and he walked me to the counter. He choose one for me and wrapped it up. All in all, every employee I interacted with provided good customer service and thanked me for my business. I usually shop at the Webster Street store but I was in this area today. I might consider returning to this location again.

Like many other stores these days, they try and force you to perform free labor by checking out your own groceries. They just have a ridiculously inadequate number of checkers open. The manager will probably get an award for paying so few employees, but the customer experience is very negative.

Pretty poor really, although its better than many of the other Safeways in the city. Theres a good produce selection and your standard Safeway grocery fare, but thats about it. They seem to have stopped stocking certain staples like peanut oil, staff (when you can even find them) are not very helpful, and the security theater here is pretty goofy.They never have enough cashiers unless you go late at night (and they keep cutting their hours back so good luck), and some of the cashiers here are the slowest I have ever experienced. Youre better off using self-checkout, but at least one kiosk has been broken for weeks.Im not really sure what the deal is with the thought process around security here. They have large portions of pharmacy and personal items locked up and they always have uniformed security staff working up front. Yet they seem to keep adding more staff and more physical barriers, as if the expensive infrastructure they have already installed has not made any difference. I personally have never seen anyone shoplifting, but I have had to squeeze past security staff who are chatting with each other while blocking the only exit of the store. At this point, its becoming more of a deterrent to your actual customers than shoplifters.

The store has been modified to a certain degree to help prevent theft but as far as more so the meat dept is basically horrible the selections are so minimal if there is anything to choose from steaks forget about it as there are none . But I will say this is not the only Safeway store that is like this I have gone to 5 different stores in the bay area and it seems that all the Safeway are following the same routine. But otherwise rest of it is pretty good.

This place is one of the worst Safeway locations in the city (2020 Market is the very worst). They are consistently understaffed in cashiers and sales floor personnel and overstaffed with burly S.W.A.T. team looking commando security guards. Lines are ridiculously long no matter what day or time you go there. They no longer have grocery carts that go out into the parking lot! Thats right, folks. Their outside carts now lock up 15ft from the entrance doors, just before you actually set off the entrance patio and actually enter the parking area. They have a majority of the merchandise locked up in glass cages that extend down the entire length of most aisles and they seem to only have one key to open them. If you need anything from the cases, plan on a 5 minute wait time, at the very least.

If youre a biker, avoid this store. I parked my bike on the rack outside the front door once and it cost me $300 to replace the parts stolen off it. After that experience, I tried bringing my bike in with me, which is no larger than a shopping cart, and you would have thought I entered the store with a bomb based on their reaction. Every other Safeway in the city lets me bring my bike with me, realizing that if I leave it outside, it may not be there when I get back. This store needs to come to terms with reality, but until then, if youre a biker, go elsewhere as parking at this store is going to cost you.

As far as the chain grocery stores go, Safeway is great. They have great specials and everyday prices. Good produce, good butcher, things are usually in stock. This is my everyday grocery store. The only downside is that it is so busy, need to time it right. The finally fixed self checkout so it is a contained area. Before there was always this question of where the line started, now there is no question. Still busy though.

Last time I was here 4 police cars came to drag away a screaming person who had assaulted an employee. This place seems dangerous from the parking lot to the inside of the stores. The store itself is large and seems to be well stocked. This Safeway even offers things at the deli most dont. I would shop here again but only if I absoluteoy needed to not going out of my way for it.

I wish I could give negative starsThis store is discussing, the lines are insanely long, there are alway homeless people stealing or just being a nuisance, the staff seems to be very unhappy(cant blame them) and very unhelpful everyone gets treated like a criminal.

It is always some drama at this Safeway. Today I come and the bathrooms are closed and there give no explanation as to why. Yesterday the Asian ladies at the deli were taking a long time and when a person complained they didn’t care and proceeded to talk about the customers in their language. The store is huge like the Market & Church St. one. I like that it is open until 11pm. Googles summary page and the stores phone recording are wrong. It is =not= open until midnite on weekdays.Prices are higher than other stores maybe because it is near Potrero Hill. I wanted a can opener and the lowest price was $12! Too high for my budget. The store in the Excelsior/Portola had the same for $8. Shop accordingly.

Hear me out: never, I said never shop at this location. Not only everything is completely mixed up (for you avocado fans good luck searching between 4 different areas where different types are spread throughout the store), but theres not enough staff for you to leave the store in less than 1h after finding all your items. Yes, weve been in line for one hour. Employees look extremely overworked and exhausted so dont blame them but management and the brand that refuses to hire enough employees. The five times I had to stop and shop here I regretted terribly after getting in line. Self checkout is also constantly breaking or not accepting cash as payment.

I used to love this Safeway, but where have all the products and good checkers gone?! Last Sunday I shopped, only after waiting 10 minutes for a shopping cart. I found a paucity of products on mostly empty shelves in an untidy store. At checkout, my checker (not the bagger because they’re weren’t any) needed reminding 3 times to not overpack the bags (rendering them unable to be held by the handles) because I had multiple stairs at my home. He still packed the milk with the cans and soda, requiring a repack because I was unable to lift the bag. Maybe I had to repeat myself so many times because his 2 earbuds prevented him from communicating effectively! To exit the store, I waited another 15 minutes; tolls by the checker to go stand by the door and wait with others; for a cart to exit the store.I do not see any of the long time managers; or checkers in the few aisles that were open, only a few familiar checkers . I do see there is a problem with theft of carts and product due to the newly fortified entrance and exit.I understand these are challenging times but other local Safeways are not in the same state of poor stocking, lack of carts, courtesy clerks and checkers. Something needs to change… in the interim, I’ll be going to Diamond Heights or Westborough..Love the Pharmacy staff!

I love Safeway. They are clean, produce and meat is really good, well stocked most of the time, and decent customer service. The Safeway app saves me more money then I spend a lot of times. Then I also earn rewards points that let me pick free items I want or a amount of money taken off my total. I chose to get $10 of my total the last time I used my points. Now they have a game you can play for a limited time too. I already won 8 rewards points, $30 discount, recipes, coupons, and a lot of entries into a sweepstakes. The one complaint I will say about the Safeway on 16th and Potreo is they change their closing times constantly without any notice. They changed it recently to 11 pm, but they really close anywhere between 10:15 to 11.

I would give it 5 stars if it didnt require an arm, leg, and your choice of internal organ to shop here. This store does offer the best quality of food, but trust and believe youre going to pay for it. I spent nearly $300.00 dollars the other day, and I only had 4 bags of food to show for it. I guess thats normal these days for those who can afford it. Bargain shopping for food results in often purchasing the unhealthy alternative. This safeway iS always busy.. Has restrooms available for customers. Many of the items ate locked like detergent n the hygiene aisle. The carts cannot go out the door with exception of a few. Ask the security guard. Theres only one way to enter and one way to exit.

Its a Safeway. Except instead of closing at midnight as stated everywhere online and on their front door, they close at 11:30pm. They then expend even more energy shooing away all the desperate last minute shoppers than if they had just allowed them in. And everyone would be so grateful and happy instead of dejected and frustrated. Or at the very least get a marker and make the hours posted on the door accurate AT LEAST.. Most of their prices are higher than the neighborhood corner shops so its usually a backup play. Im adding TWO extra stars for the female security guard on shift last week who actually let me park my scooter inside (the half dozen abandoned u-locks on the bike rack gave me pause). She said shed watch it for me; anyone who lives in the city will appreciate how rare this is. This employee is gold - not only did she go out of her way to ensure I came in (I almost didnt) but she gave me peace of mind and turned a two stars experience into a four. Treat her right, Safeway!!!

It was the usual experience: neither enjoyable nor horrible,with the exception of the two rude and preoccupied clerks working the deli counter. Though both saw me approach the counter,neither stopped their cleaning to greet and assist me,until one had no choice but to acknowledge me and then tell me she couldnt slice cheese nor cold cuts because it was too late. Sure would have been nice to not have made me wait to receive no service whatsoever. The deli staff is mediocre on a good day: worthless on a day like today. Trader Joes: why did I ever stray???

Used to be my neighborhood go to store. Now the shoplifting and cart stealing is so bad you cant take a cart out of the store! There was only one checker at 10:30am. Was better off doing a full cart through self checkout. Not the employees fault by any means. Wish the city would help them with stopping shoplifting and carts being stolen.

Honestly I’m not a fan of Safeway. At least not in SF. They are almost always really dirty. The prices on most items is really bad, although some sale items can be a good deal. The overall store experience is really poor. Most employees seem to hate being there and there is almost always sometime of crime happening there. People constantly steal and get caught but security guards and then there’s a fight at the front door. If you manage to get in and out without that problem someone will be dealing drugs in the parking lot or homeless people will be using drugs in the parking lot. Trash will be everywhere and getting anything done quickly will be a hassle. I haven’t had a positive experience at Safeway in over 2 years. I avoid this place like the plague. That being said this particular location has a huge parking lot that can be convenient at times for other things than shopping here. I park here to use the post office on Bryant street.

My family and I have been shopping there for 30 years faithfully. Birthdays holidays and for dinner regularly.Today we were abused by a race soldier security guard. Today we were followed by security because we mentioned our frustration over a gate being in the way we noted it and moved on to shop. A security guard harassed us about it and quite menacingly said we werent allowed to shop because we voiced an opinion verbally without violence. Seeing him overreacting we continued to go get our items. Halfway back on our way to pay the guard shoved my friend not once but twice. He made a verbal statement to the guard saying dont touch me again (as he had no right we hadnt stolen anything harassed anyone or damaged or disturbed any person or item in the store) . We then tried to walk to the checkout when trh guard walked behind my friend and pushed him again thrn pushed the cart into the isle when my friend turned to grab the cart the guard was behind him and proceeded to mace him in the store. Nit only was this a traumatizing experience but I do believe it was racially motivated as my friend is AAPI and the guard was white. He abused his power on an ego trip and not only did he mace a man who for a living works as the first AAPI manager within his dept at the San Francisco foodbank distribution center for the entire San Francisco as well as Marin whod just spent his entire day packing food for the citys low income families and residents but he did it in a crowded store where the effects traveled and caused several shoppers to feel ill. Ive seen the guards there racially profile customers before and thought how awful but to mace a paying customer for 1 sentence is extremely disturbing to me a middle-aged black woman. And instead of doing the right thing the store banned my friend from the store for a day proving that there was no real reason besides this mans hate that this incident happened. My family and friends and myself will not be using this ( the only supermarket in this food desert again until my friend is given an apology for the racist ego of their security as well as theans firing. Hes there to guard food not private conversations between a black woman and a pacific islander man. We dont need that on our areaas its racially diverse and easy going. Who gave him the right to abuse his power and mace a paying customer?..... Idk but we did file a police report and are talking to a lawyer... During all the racial hate he even lost his only pair of glassesand wont be able to replace them until after the labor day holiday..yes a man who moved 114 tons of food during the last holiday season on to trucks after packing it all got maced on the one weekend dedicated to the hard workers.... thanks friendly neighborhood safeway...And when we later tried to reach a manager for information after by phone no one would answer the phone line ..I tried calling for 2 hours

I was asking for customized sandwich and she was saying something in Chinese looks like she was cursing and was not doing what I wanted. I am proud of this particular Safeway for handling the crazy problem. There is enough security to keep it safe. The employees are attentive yet not invasive. I no longer have to duck and dodge cops and security chasing shoplifters down. I once just gave a guy a five and told him to just beat it because he was being chased all over the store and I felt unsafe- it would have been a fight this guy was so desperate. I dont want to see it or accidently get hurt in these crazy tousles in the grocery store. Other than that it is the same well stocked Safeway you know so well. I used to really like this Safeway but the security guards are out of control. I have three videos of them physically threatening me and being rude and embaressing me at the check out when I was trying to complete a door dash request ( I had to cancel the order) I also havr a video of the Asian man who dressed like GI Joe punching and kicking a potential shoplifter when the man was already down on the ground. And the manager woman was standing laughing like it was funnyso disrespectful and unprofessional The young afracian American security guard also threatened me like we were on the street. Normally going to Safeway is a fun and can be expensive trip to the store. However Ive always experienced excellent customer service and a kind and friendly staff. My last trip didnt pan out that way. The cashier engaged two other people one a store employee and the other a customer that was ahead of me and extremely loud dialogue. My groceries werent rung up correctly and the thing I wanted most from the store which was bananas got put back on the shelf for some reason. Doesnt seem like a big deal but you had to be there to experience the full negative effect this had on my trip. I dont get my feathers ruffled easily, but this took the cake! I have avoided most stores only grabbing whats necessary. I was dissapointed to see there were not many full baskets available. This is partially due to the transient population that frequent the location daily. The new lay out with big letters on the overhead signs make finding items easy.The employees were visible and helpful. Yes the C19 has everyone cautions but greetings were exchanged. The parking lot is huge, but even on a Thursday at 12:30pm it was pretty full/busy (i.e wouldnt ever try to come here on the weekend).Its nearly impossible to find a cart here, tho, so grab one even if you see it in the parking lot. At self check out, they dont give you bags until the very end (worker said it was b/c it messes with the scale of the bagging area??), so it was pretty inconvenient not to be able to bag as you went.

Finally it was my turn, and the person making sandwiches asked me to wait more while she helped another customer at the sandwich register. Im sure that customer service at the self-checkout can be a stressful and annoying job. Theres only 1 person to help with all of those registers that half the time arent working. But this Safeway really needs to work on what they CAN improve, and thats attitude of staff and a desire and willingness to give **helpful** customer service, even when they are busy. Was there last night, and the experience I had was that of being brushed off at best. It was really clear that the person working that area wasnt terribly interested in doing anymore than they absolutely had to. While it wasnt the worst Ive ever seen, it could use improvement. Never a dull experience at this Safeway late at night. Non-stop shoplifter action and store security busting thieves with giant bags filled with store .merchandise and anything else that isnt locked behind glass or chained down to the shelves. Crazy sightings abound. And, the restrooms are definitely in the top 10 nastiest in the city, which puts them high in the running for the most disgusting worldwide. Check it out sometime just to watch the chaos. Or, stuff a big bag with merchandise and walk out and save yourself some cash like all the other boosters....

The Safeway deli service is horrible everytime i come in. Today i watched this woman put her gloves on in slow motion just so she can be noisy with what her coworker was saying. When i come on for lunch i dont have time to gossip. Im on lunch break! When i left the store there were 10 people in line and she was just talking to her coworker. Horrible service very selfish if you dont wanna do the job move along so someone else can.

It is always a pleasure to shop here. I feel that its a lot more clean that some places I shop at. They have some very good deals on groceries. It is my go to for groceries when I am in the area. This locations Pharmacy has to be the worst in their entire chain and i don’t blame the store more than the customers who are able to shop elsewhere more than those who must rely on them. PEOPLE LISTEN UP1. When you’re spend the dollars you work hard for its perfectly fine to ask (no. demand) that you are treated with something called RESPECT and DIGNITY! And if you can’t get it take your prescriptions and RUN to a pharmacy that does respect you AND your business. Those customers who are unable to get to another store because of distance or price - like Chaka said “I feel for you”.Safeway ..:: you are jot right if you don’t fix the attitudes of that department. The Safeway in Potrero Hill SF on 16th Street is astonishing awful. Imagine a cross between a homeless shelter, a Soviet Union Era supermarket, and an insane asylum. This is where so many things from Metamucil to shaving gel to laundry detergent are locked behind glass. To buy any of those you used to press a button. Now you walk to customer service and wait in line to have them get a person to give you access. Then you wait a long time for them to show up.It is undeniably the worst grocery store I’ve ever been to.

I left home at 8:30 because I knew the deli would be closing at 10 I found out tonight that they close at 9 so I had my heart set on getting a sandwich I had to buy packaged meat cheese went to the bread section bought a roll. There was still people in the deli and I asked them I know they closed but would you mind just slicing my bread to make it easier on me later on when I make my sandwich he was rude no where close that service is closed he repeated it 3 X he could have at least gave me a plastic knife or utensil a plastic utensil so I can slice it myself or some packets like I know they got little packets of mustard or mayonnaise I had to even buy the smallest bottle of mayonnaise. when I got to the register I asked the checker was the services of the pharmacy Deli posted anywhere in the store so I would never waste my time again and they said no it was not posted anywhere they said maybe you could look online I looked online the deli is not posted online. There are a lot of people like me who work in the evenings and for the most part I do do most of my shopping early in the morning when I get off of work but every now and again bringing my lunch is not an option or you just have a taste for something and tonight was a night when I had a taste for a Safeway sandwich I didnt want to have to buy it in the morning when I dont have to be at work till 10 at night I wanted to get a fresh sandwich very disappointed in Safeway

So often I have walked out due to there being one or two checkers and lines halfway down the isle. I’m leaving this review after walking out again last nightI’ve literally spent several minutes just looking for a cart on more than one occasion. They routinely charge you more than that posted price (be aware when buying tomatoes! More than once I’ve been charged $3.99 when their “every day price” was posted as $2.99Unfortunately, there’s no other major chain in the area, and the smaller stores all close at 10pmI usually drive to Lucky in Daly City to avoid this place that’s two blocks from my house

As, I had multiple negative experiences to deal with on this grocery trip. Plus “to add insult onto injury,” I paid $241.96, so I could be treated in a negative manner.I arrived at Safeway Store #1490 at around 12:20pm. These were the negative issues, which were part of my grocery shopping experience at Safeway Store #1490:There were absolutely no shopping carts in front of the store. Plus, there appeared to be NO SAFEWAY EMPLOYEE, who appeared to be responsible for immediately disinfecting the used shopping carts! Not good business practice at all during this period of Covid-19 Virus Pandemic. To the best of my knowledge, the crisis isn’t over yet. I have gone to other grocery stores, & they wouldnt even allow me to use a USED SHOPPING CART, until it was sanitized. In retrospect, I should’ve taken this situation as a SIGN, & I could’ve just left. I wish – I had.I needed to use the restroom, before I shopped. Having access to a restroom should be a priority accessibility feature to all of SAFEWAY’S customers. Being able to EASILY USE A RESTROOM IS A BIOLOGICAL NECESSITY, & in my opinion – A HUMAN RIGHT. I shouldn’t have to “jump through hoops” to get access to the bathroom.I found the restrooms WAY IN THE BACK OF THE STORE. I got to the front door, & it had an electronic pin code lock in order to open the door. Yet, there was “NO SIGN” or any piece of information posted, as to where I might obtain the code.Foolishly I thought that the people, who were stacking the shelves MIGHT know the entry code. The 1st man, who I went up, after I posed my question blurted out, “I don’t work here.! Okay.The 2nd man, who was in the “cracker aisle” - towards the back of the store, was UNBELIEVALBY RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL, & MEAN. All he kept saying to me was, “Go ask security!” His tone-of-voice and body language were disturbing to say the least. I approached him in a respectful manner, so I was quite shocked by his intense manner & remarks.I was able to find a woman, who was able to enter the code. I finally was able to use the restroom – WHEW!After using the restroom, I was so disturbed by the “Cracker Aisle Man,” I approached him, & I told him just how negative, rude, & unnecessary his remarks were to me. What was extremely interesting, he didn’t even have the courtesy to look at me. Yet during the 1st time, he stared me down. Hmmm.I was just going to leave, & once again I should’ve listened to my intuition.I had a very detailed shopping list, so I needed to go down every aisle to ensure that I purchased all the items, which I needed.After about 10 minutes, I had to go down an aisle, where “The Cracker Man” was working. He saw me coming down the aisle. He had a large metal cart, it was parked on a significant angle, such that it made it impossible for me to pass with my grocery cart. He made no attempt to make room for me, so I just moved through. Great!I finally finished my shopping at around 12:45pm. What stunned me was there were only THREE OPEN CASHIERS. The line-up of customers was easily 5 to 7 customers waiting. Plus, most of the cashiers appeared not to have a BAGGINING SUPPORT PERSON. My big question is, “Where was the SAFEWAY Management during this lunchtime “rush hour?” Why didn’t they request for cashier support?The people in front of me had a lot of groceries like me. They had the FULL SUPPORT OF THE BAGGING PERSON- from beginning to the end. I on the other hand offered to pack, so I would speed up my check-out process, & support all the other customers – who were waiting in line. The BAGGER LEFT ½ WAY THROUGH THE PROCESS! That made me feel foolish & not valued as a helpful customer.

Went in on a Wednesday evening at 7:30. Went through every single aisle and never once encountered a store employee for assistance. Waited for almost 15 minutes in the liquor aisle for someone to unlock the doors. No one ever showed up. Then waited in line for 35 minutes to check out. I had 8 items. Ended up going elsewhere for the liquor. This experience was so unbelievably ridiculous, Im tempted to avoid all Safeway stores. I certainly will never return to this abortion of a location.

I only shop here cause is close to my house. The salad I bought here had mold. With the pandemic there taking advantage of the people with the prices. They constantly change the expiration date on the food, so basically it’s old.. Today I had a security guard following me around like I was gonna steal from the store. Ok the restrooms are always filthy, the staff are always going out of their way to help you find a product, they allow dogs to ride in the grocery carts, personally that is nasty, think about it, a dogs ass where you put food items in, unacceptable. Licensed service dogs, in the store is fine, but Not in the carts and pets should Not, be allowed in grocery stores to begin with, unless they are an actual service animal. Also, the management will NOT do special orders, Ive requested several times, they just refuse, Not cool.

Place was filthy, & almost every employee i spoke to during my shopping trip was acting like they thought i was going to try to pocket everything i could while i was wondering the aisles. The men tackled her to the ground when she didnt stop trying to leave. The female security seemed completely uninterested, was playing with her phone. After theyd tackled her to the ground, the men kept trying to rip the womans bag from her hands. Even though shed agreed to cooperate. As she showed them the contents of her bag, they kept trying to say that nearly everything food related came from your store. As if its impossible that anyone would go to a favorite store and get an item, then sometime later they might still have the item, just no proof of purchase...that means i could be knocked around a bit & then have your ataff rob me at any given time!Not particularly pleased at all capn

Came to this Safeway for the first time for some medication for my stomach. Walked all around the store before i found someone to help me find it. Was pointed to it by a nice young man, I find all the medications are behind locked glass. Fine. I look all around for someone to help me open it. I even press the button that says press if you need help. Nothing. I went to the pharmacist right nearby and she confirmed I need to find someone. Finally I see someone but there are already 3 people waiting to talk to him in the medication area since there is hardly anyone around to help. I see the employee is very confused and frustrated, and when the two other customers ask him for help, he straight up says “I dont know.” in a very frustrated, rude tone. The next person asks him for help, he says “I dont know!” in the same tone. Customer responds, “Uh..okay.” and walks away. I walk away too as clearly im not going to be getting any help from this man. To be fair he seemed to be a little mentally delayed and i wont blame him but it was still frustrating. so i walk away and again search all over for someone to help me unlock the glass door. finally found someone who also seemed very annoyed and grumpy that she had to deal with me. she came and helped me and i was on my way. ill admit i feel very sick today and am not having the best day but the service here was not good. not sure why theyre so understaffed and why the staff they have seem so annoyed and grumpy when you politely ask them for help. maybe theyre not being paid enough. i dont know. but this was quite a frustrating experience and i think of myself as having low standards for what i expect.

My experience at this location was terrible. The slant eyed cashier was trying to socially distance herself from the customers. Which meant she was too afraid to accept my money. Theres a sizable homeless/crazy/always high population who wander around in the store, yelling/talking to their voices, eat various items in the store without paying (especially from the deli) and then leave.They dont even make an attempt to hide their shoplifting. I made the mistake of buying the olives from the olive bar once and have regretted since.This is probably not specific to this store, but a reflection on the entire population of San Francisco as a whole.Anyway, the items here are priced up. Im assuming in part due to the city location, but also because we are feeding the homeless.Theres good parking though.

I couldnt find white pepper on the spice shelves. After asking an employee who was stocking the shelves on the same aisle, she didnt know but offered that if it werent on the shelf, then Safeway didnt carry it. I asked whether the customer service desk would know, she emphatically said no. They didnt know what was on the shelf. Odd. As it was 830, the employee said the 11 oclock night shift would know better. Its sad that employees dont know their stock. They lost another customer to rainbow.

I hate this Safeway. The lines tend to be 10 deep (really) and theyll often have one or two checkers open with lots of people waiting. I like Safeway as a whole; but, I really wish there was an reasonable competitor within walking distance of this place. I have walked in, seen the lines, and walked right back out more than once. Safe way is a grocery store that has stores in alot of the 50 states and they have produce and alcoholic beverages as well as waqrm prepared food and basic and some hard to find foods. The service at this store is very good and the cash registers are available with self check out and with a cashier as well. This makes it nice for the express lanes that are always there and you scan your own items and the machine takes money and gives change.

Very disappointed. I just ordered some stailed fried chicken from this location. I want my money back! The fried chicken taste like the oil has been reused various times. The chicken is stailed like its been sitting in the counter for a long time. Very bad experience.

Convenient.Plenty of parking, a pharmacy and Wells Fargo on premises, and you can actually talk to the butcher and buy fresh. Good produce section with organic options, and a nice deli, Great Muni service too.The staff, overall is friendly and efficient.

Pharmacy here is awesome, everyone is friendly and there isnt usually a long wait.Grocery and produce sections are really clean.The deli and hot food stations have a wide selection.

Formerly my go-to supermarket, truth be told, I hardly ever visit this Safeway anymore. Frankly, I do most of my shopping at Costco nowadays with occasional forays to Trader Joes and to Whole Foods. And getting repeatedly accosted by panhandlers and seeing recurrent security actions for shoplifting made the Potrero Center Safeway seem less than inviting.All that having been said, when I realized that I needed some cleaning supplies at 9:30pm on a Friday night, Safeway seemed like the logical place to look for the supplies I required. Indeed, within just one aisle, I was able to find all of the items I needed. And I didnt get hit up for money, nor did I witness any shoplifting arrests. Bravo, Safeway!

I was shopping at this Safeway when my 1st son was born 20 yrs ago its busy its huge deli dept signature sandwiches or made to order we went in on a Thursday about 1230 grab a couple sandwiches for the road eek took a bit of a wait n was busy good fresh sandwiches though n they do get lots if shoppers we did not have a problem parking so nice to know located in shopping center w tons around but at least the workers give u a smile even when hectic...

It is a Safe place all the time. But dont go too late to do your Shoping. The restocker store team after 12:00 am some times are too busy to go to work as cashiers and they make you wait long time.

Very fancy store. Lots of nice stuff. Too many items though with high sugar, high-fat, preservatives, artificial flavoring and color, MSG Etc. Safeway needs to change with the times. You need to start carrying way more organic items and make them as cheap as conventional items. Theres no reason why they should cost more. The only way that they can save themselves is to offer healthier food and better prices. Your prices are through the roof on a lot of items. But as I mentioned good selection. Until you read the ingredients that is. I think the owners of Safeway need to go take more walk through the whole food Isles and start copying them a lot more. Otherwise youll have places like Aldis Trader Joes, Wegmans coming from New York maybe who knows and other stores that are already modeling after whole foods that are going to put Safeway completely under. This is not the 1970s. I can see that a lot of people were there just for the sale items like Progresso soups 5 for the $5.00 and other things on sale. Thats not a winning recipe for your store.

Hummmm..lets see. While checking out the coupons by the door the security literally circled my entire being twice. also when getting my items that I needed for dinner the security stood behind me the entire time following me. I just ignored her although very uncomfortable. Especially since I had to make hard decision, wasnt to sure if I wanted to pay 4 dollars for 2 Pringles or wait and get at or wait and go to foods co. Cause theyre only a dollar each there. IDK. How am I feeling about my shopping trip to safeway?

Safeway is a great place to buy food. It comes in a variety of flavors and colors and you can really get creative with stuff you want to cook. They sell everything! Go to Safeway when youre shopping. What are you waiting for?!

I rate 5 stars becauze the employees there are all so nice and quick to help! Only issue i ever had was over aggressive security working graveyard shift.... Now the security team is even polite and have made me have a brand new outlook and opinion.
