I went to super Safeway today on Sutton way in Grass Valley (dec 4th). They have everything! Large floral department...great bakery department..meat and fish department..cold and hot deli and so much more! Love that they have someone making fresh suishi! Good deals on wine. There is also a Starbucks inside! Try to go early because they tend to get very busy!

What an unfortunate experience! Safeway of Grass Valley took an order for a cake and then made me the wrong thing, which I didnt discover until cutting into it at the birthday party. And when I went to get the cake, another customer was there to pick up her cupcakes, and they have already given them to someone else, so there seems to be rampant mismanagement of this department. I have asked repeatedly for a refund, but none has been provided. Unfortunately, I am now having to take legal action against Safeway to get my money back. Its such a bummer when a business in a small town is willing to screw over the residents. Wont be shopping there anymore!!

I dont shop at Safeway anymore except for dire emergencies due to its policies not to prosecute or protect its merchandise from criminals who walk out the front door hourly without paying. Its clear from shopping at competitors who prices are half of Safeway that paying customers are footing the bill for the thefts. That can not and should not be rewarded by giving you business. I encourage all to shop elsewhere because thats the only way to get senior management involved to fix the issue. I cant walk out of walmart without showing a receipt so there are solutions that this company is not willing to employ. Attached to this is a pair criminals I witnessed stealing and walking without paying.

Store is easy to navigate, efficient and welcoming front end, produce is well taken care of, meat department its stocked and always find a great deal, bakery is on top of keeping everything so fresh, and the deli fantastic attitudes, floral has lots of seasonals to choose from and Starbucks always on point, love my double shot cold brew with cream and cinnamon!

Today is Saturday I visited the location at Brunswick and Sutton in Grass valley CA. I elected to have the $9 combo from the hot foods.. I chose ambrosia salad, devil egged salad, and chicken strips. Both the salads were excellent the chicken was dry, hard, and cold, it was not eatable. I wont return to Safeway.

Prices are still ridiculously high. Its not the store so much as being due to the current politics of it all. 🙄My only complaint is the loss of items due (seemingly) to the store brand taking precedence. Im sorry, but I WANT my Heinz mayo... and I WANT my Sierra Nevada mustard (NOT just the honey version!) and I .... nevermind..They are so close and centrally located, the staff are awesome. Can always count on management to treat employees well and to provide us customers with as much stuff as is humanly possible!! Total lifesavers over the holidays!! They have been there for us, during fires, snowmageddons (plural), closures and pandemics...The original staff doesnt get the respect that they so much deserve, especially from us customers... (Ive noticed, that there have been staff retention issues, just like EVERYWHERE!!) Please, be patient and kind.THANK YOU!

Mostly happy and courteous staff. One obnoxious lady in the deli who tricked me into buying something I didnt want. (I asked for one type of meat, she gave me something else that cost twice as much). When I called to lodge a complaint about it they took it very seriously and Im confident they resolved the issue.In general these are good people, regardless of it being a big chain store. They employ people with disabilities and treat them well. Theyre worth your business.

Safeway is a staple like mom and pop,needs a makeover like years ago,center of attention like and its time to put some makeup on it,its still the middle of attention in downtown grassvalley,only supermarket left in downtown,used to be a purity market on Colfax Avenue, usave liquor store,beside it,2 bowling allies the gold bowl where gold miners inn stands.the busy bee market on east main in hills flat a terrible Herbst gas station there too beside it.so much is gone farmers market on east main st,it was beside A&W, big A or ahrens just down the street by Berryhill Dr was a Dairy Queen,by riebies was foster freezewhere riebies automotive is now it was across the street,by Montgomery wards along with hills flat lumber company,the union News paper was on mills Street along with Brewers menswear,tesss gift shop and hedmans furniture,where wells Fargo Bank stands was the bar called the jockey club,the Del Oro theater was a single movie house with upstairs louges and downstairs,now back to Safeway on its lot was also Smiths Department store,also a Sprouse Rietz a small like Ben Franklins,across the other corner of S.Auburn,Colfax Ave was a Texaco gas station,the second bowling alley I mentioned was called the Jolly Roger,it sat where Taco Bell is,another missing ingredient was a roller skating rink in labarr meadows,the biggest draw eat wise was the holiday house on east main,the willow on Downeyville hwy,the national hotel on broad street in Nevada Citythe coach house on Zion Street Nevada Citythe office dinner house on Richardson st. In grassvalley,so much history is gone and not much improvement they never restored vital history the Kidder Mansion stood on the corner of Bennett st. and Kidder Ave,a total loss by the city. Ive lived here quite a few years even before the freeway through town. I miss a few of these things,and theres so much more missing,Alpha Hardware on west main st. Ballerina cleaners,another big missing business just out of town,off Colfax hwy where it meets Brunswick road,called the Dragon Seed Inn,Joe and Tommy Leong owners,I knew them personally,great gentlemen! Great French fries they made for us lol,they were Chinese and missed. So much is gone

Very busy grocery store most of the time, however, they are very good at keeping their shelves stocked up with items and quality brands. They have a lot of sales all the time like buy 3 get 3 free on 12 packs made by Pepsi/Coke products. Also 10 for $10 of Rice-A-Roni, Macaroni and cheese, canned goods and more.Employees are friendly and helpful everytime Ive gone there to shop!!! 🙂

Safeway is great! Love the Just for U deals. The more you shop the better your coupons get. They start to customize them based on what you buy and also offer deals on products that are similar or related. They have a good selection of products and their meat and produce is awesome. Ive never had any problems with it there. I have only had a couple mistakes ever happen there with being charged wrong and they always make it right. Love my local Safeway!

Great place for grocery shopping. Ive been up here for 11yrs from the S.F. Peninsula. I do miss them being open 24/7. Ive tried all the other grocery stores and none of them beat Safeway. Im retired from retail management and love to give compliments when well deserved.Excellent c/s, prices that are unbeatable, from buy 2 get 2 free, digital coupons, etc.You cant beat 50% off top named brands.

May be better to do with out! No carts especially clean ones finally got 1 from a customer outside. Social distancing impossible with the registers they were using. Looked like it had been years since the floors were mopped. No sign of a/c at all. Waited a long time twice for 1 money order. Bottled water stored outside in the sun. Rich harassed me and my family with our Registered service animal, he watched us approach we had two carts so that we could transfer our items. I have numb arms and my left leg is numb. Not once did rich tell us to goto the check out line and there is no where that says we cannot use self check out. He stood right by us almost the entire time to make sure we scanned everything, he did not do this to anyone else in the line. Once we were ready to pay after I used the scanner gun on everything in my cart he said I did not scan things and asked to check several items in our cart. We asked him why he never said anything to begin with to save everyone time or asked why the scanner gun is so sensitive, it is not our fault if the gun doesn’t pick something up nor did he ever offer to help set things down anywhere to assist, there was a 20 dollar difference and we had no problem paying it. If you are going to single out people then I’d highly suggest checking everyone’s receipt to make sure they scan everything as well as having more checkers open. This was absolutely ridiculous and this man has horrible customer service experience, instead of being part of the solution he was becoming the problem with exactly what’s going wrong with our country. Don’t have self checkout open unless your going to harass everyone. I’ve been shopping at this Safeway for years and this will be the last time I ever do again!!!!!

Staff is nice. Store is usually understaffed, and recently, Ive had to take back products because theyre expired. I always check dates now. You can get great deals on their clearance items though. And their branded frozen pizza is actually really good; theyre less than $4 if you buy two.

They are, at times, severely understaffed, yet still provide excellent customer service. The produce department has let me down on more than enough occasions. Best Butcher in the Safeway chain works here. He was so helpful, loved his recommendations and advice. He must love his job. Wish we lived in Grass Valley... we would shop there every week just to get our meat and seafood there. I only wish I caught his name, I would send a letter to corporate.

Being from Southern California the is the closest we have seen to Vons Pavilion . The store was extremely busy but the Safeway Team Handled it well. The store was well stocked and maintained. Really torn about this place. On the one hand, good selection, reasonable prices. On the other hand the place looks like a war zone. Got to cross through a group of panhandlers smoking pot and begging for money just to get in. A stumbling drunk shoplifts a bottle of Jose cuervo and all the employees do is say were not allowed to do anything. You get to the check stand and are trying to pay when some guy who hasnt showered or shaved since the end of last decade violates your personal space to ask if you could hand him a dollar so he could buy himself dinner...It makes the name safe way kind of ironic

I love this Safeway. I use their delivery services when I am sick. Just download the app.It will show you all the store coupons available. I just found out, you can use their credit you collect from buying groceries there, to save on gas. The best thing is you can order and pay for your groceries, then just stop by and pick them up. Plenty of parking and the store is clean an well manned.

SAFEWAY AT BRUNSWICK BASIN in Grass Valley, California is one of the best stocked, well laid out, freshest produce, meats, deli and household Safeway I have ever encountered. For a small town store (Grass Valley is a small town..we just think we arw big). The produce, organic or not is impeccable, 5 ☆ all the way. Stocked fresh 3 or 4 times a day. Prices are good, but their $5.00 Fridays and Sales are Great!!Staff is amazingly too!! They stay open till well after 10:00p.m. and never once, since the store opened, have I ever encountered anything other than graciousness, professionalism, courtesy and assistance of any any kind. Nothing phases these people. They are happy to he there, even on the worst shopping days of the year! They àbsolutely love what they are going, its not just a paycheck for them. They are there for yòu!. The store is spotless àlways. Çovid-19 guidelines strictly enforced..all cars and baskets sanitized after each use; masks are available upon entering, free of charge, in case yours is in the car (or, like mine; sitting at home with my grocery list...), hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes are also posted at each entrance and exit, also free of charge; there is a staffer at each entry/exit point that does nothing but ensure that everybody wears a mask before entering...100% of the time. The smaller Safeway in Grass Valley also is as fastidious as the bigger Safeway, but they are quicker to get in and out of due to their efficiency and compactness. Both Grass Valley Safeway are great examples of excellence and service.

Nice clean well organized store with good prices and helpful staff. Aisles are wide and well lit so its easy to find what you need. They also have a good selection of non-food items (ie sunglasses, clotheslines, hats, flip flops) which is helpful if youve forgotten something or want some cheap supplies before going up to the river. This is my go to place for groceries when Im in the area

For the location this is by far the best you will get as far as fresh groceries go. They also do outside grilling until 6pm (hot/polish dogs, burgers) that taste amazing! Its only a 1.50 for a good sized dog. Add in some chips and a soda and you got a great lunch for a decent price. Flower selection is very nice. They also have a wells fargo in there along with an atm.

This convenient location usually has everything you need. One problem - the checkout lines are long! sometimes in the evening there can be 15 people or more in a line and only 1 checker. I often see people shoplifting here and I cant help but guess that the reason is they dont want to wait in line for 20 minutes to buy a block of cheese!

There is one consistant problem for me at this store, and that problem is a guy named Paul -- usually works evenings at the self checkout/cash register. He usually has a bad attitude and comes off as angry and inconvenienced.. I try to avoid whatever area he is working in so that I am not caught in his rancid death glare. He often times will not say hi, just starts shoving items across the scanner. He has even thrown the groceries quite aggressively that I was actively purchasing. Carbonated canned goods just launched into the bag on top of fragile produce. He managed to dent the canned goods and proceeding to charge me for the goods without acknowledging the wrong, and we are fed up with this type of attitude!I come into this store daily to shop for my households needs, and I typically am satisfied over all. Its just this one employee who insists on projecting an unwelcome attitude. It is clear that he doesnt want to be at his job or be dealing with customers; my household members often mention his unfriendly attitude.Safeway, please do something about this horrifying example of shotty customer service. The next time Paul treats me or my housemates with less respect than the average person, I will be sure to grab the attention of his senior and gladly detail all the ways in which Paul has been less than satisfactory. More 1 star reviews like this will appear until he modifies his behavior or his employment is modified.

Very helpful, veggies was good/crisp, meat was displayed well. I really like Safeway brand foods.I had a hard time getting through the isles because of the stuff in the way. I wasnt able to get Easter cards because of paper goods in boxes in the way.This Safeway in Glenbrook area. The Safeway down town Grass Valley is where I usually shop. Large selection, good prices. Long lines and grumpy staff. Because of management and staffing issues, they no longer stock the shelves at night, but instead during the day and are always blocking the aisles. The lines at the checkstand are always really long and theres only a handful of check stands open at any given time.

The people work hard. The over priced greedy large corporations are another story. More and more there is a separation with service and food standards in the US. Young children dont have any comparitive evaluation based upon life experience; the way things used to be.Food quality and regulations show the struggle of the US and the ever diminishing dollar value globally.I typically grab ready-made salads (Crab, Southwest, Ceasar), pastas (white sauce, spaghetti with meatballs, lasagna), pre-packed pasta salads, premade sandwiches (roast beef, turkey, ham, family size) and a variety of drinks from kombucha to Safeway brand flavored drinks.As prices go up, quality and volume (my food amount) sharply go down. I rarely can eat here for under $15 just for one meal. I am rarely satisfied with the quantity. My mind will be stuck on you just spent $15-$20 on one meal and my hand deceptively reaches for another chip in an empty bag. Thats why Ill title this little review Empty Bag but it should be calledore to the like high prices 1/2 empty stomach. Also there are less and less fresh vegetables found within sandwiches as compared to the past.Im average sized. I typically eat once a day. The quality of food is thus important. I dont find the same nutients value in the foods I purchase progressively (meats, breads, vegetable) bare minimal.These types of massive companies producing and feel very high quantities will vastly shift to more international available world wide food producers before/if things get any better (doesnt look like it from where Im sitting).Best to you all

Not good. Usually Safeway is my go to grocer. I stood at the deli counter for nearly 5 minutes while 2 clerks waited on others. My item was a wrapped sandwich that only required paying at the till. When the ckerk came over and saw my $20 bill, he abruptly said he could not take cash at the till. Having left my wallet in the car and no debit card, I put the product back on the shelf and irritatedly left the store. Suggestion: if you cant take cash at least put signage at that location in an obvious place so a customer can make a decision to purchase or not.

This is the closest grocery store to my house so I tend to shop here regularly. I went in one day on my lunch break for a sandwich and it took me over 30 minutes standing in a line with two people in front of me to get a sandwich. They only have one person it the sandwich department during lunch hours and the employee is painfully slow! I ended up ording the most simple sandwich I could think of ( salami provolone on sourdough) in hopes that the employee could make this in a reasonable time. If he was to go any slower he could be labeled as an actual sloth! It’s a sandwich not rocket science and literally one of the easiest things to whip out. If you need a sandwich go to port of subs next door they will definitely get you out of there in a timely manor.On the other hand, the meat department is always quick to help and get you what you need. There are also some great chasiers at the check stands that really make your day. They also have a great selection of produce and pastries / deserts.

My review is entirely based upon the sushi. I take issue with the fact that this Safeway sells its tuna and salmon nigiri labeled as a Rainbow Roll and charges $12.99. I brought this issue up with a supervisor a few weeks ago and she was incredibly nice and offered me free sushi and said she would talk to the sushi chef manager. In all honesty this place does deserve 5-stars for the delicious sushi and the incredibly nice supervisor experience. Unfortunately when I returned just a few days ago I saw the tuna and salmon nigiri sushi labeled as rainbow roll and selling for $12.99. Out of principle I left. 3 stars

I am appalled at Safeways irresponsible refusal to require customers to wear masks at this time. If smaller stores can do this, surely a large wealthy chain can. Even when I shop at night to avoid the crowds, 40% of shoppers dont wear masks and make no effort to keep six feet between themselves and other shoppers. Clearly such people are not persuaded by the fact that anyone can be carrying the virus without experiencing symptoms, and that wearing masks protects OTHERS - including the elderly, sick and immunocompromised, and the store workers who spend long hours in that space endangering themselves while serving us. Safeway management needs to show leadership and protect human beings over their bottom line. Make the simple requirement of your customers that they wear a mask in the store, or shop somewhere else.

Store is too crowded with very narrow aisles with boxes of merchandise in them.. Hard to get into store through the door near the Starbucks stand.. People waiting in line to be served coffee but a sitting area virtually empty. starbucks should bve moved to the large outdoor patio in the front of the store.. the patio is a huge waste of space.I like Safeway as a super market but too crowded.

Safeway doesnt require masks! They say they cant force people to wear them, yet many, many stores do just that. Science shows that masks help prevent the spread of Covid. This used to be my favorite grocery store in town. A while back they renovated, they extended the isles too much and now it is awkward and claustrophobic to shop if there are many people there. People waiting in line block the ability for carts to move around. I suggest going somewhere else now.
