Safeway at South Shore Alameda is pretty legit. Found everything I needed, especially all that keto stuff, and zipped in and out without a hitch. Self-checkout was a breeze - no line! Even snagged a sweet parking spot. Gotta say, prices aren’t low, but for the convenience and selection, its worth it. Definitely making this spot my go-to for shopping. Solid 4 stars!

I have used the Southshore Safeway for over twenty years. There has always been a great community of employees and familiar faces who are helpful, kind, and hardworking. Since COVID I’ve really enjoyed their Drive Up & Go service too. It’s easy to use and convenient.Today there was a mistake with my order I got a quick call while I waited in my car with an explanation and a quick resolve.Lastly, I also use their pharmacy and that group of knowledgeable people are the best!Appreciate this store and mall very much.

This morning at Safeways Starbucks, I experienced emotional mistreatment after politely requesting the employee to focus on taking orders instead of multitasking on the phone.My order was overlooked, and when I inquired about it after waiting, I was refunded and denied service because of my earlier comment.However, I am grateful for the swift and humble resolution provided by the general manager, Gloria (apologies if misspelled).

Very disappointed in the store manager. I was there in the early evening and they closed all self check outs and forced lines of dozens of people. When I asked to speak with a manager she informed me they prioritize online orders over in store customers. I have been shopping at Safeway over 40 years and have noticed a serious decline in customer service. Very poor experience.

This is my go to store for groceries. It has about 95% of what I need or want. Produce is fresh and decent selection. Between this and trader joes next door, you should be able to find most anything. Its why the parking lot is so full.The store is currently being renovated. Cant wait to see what itll be like.

Shoppers Beaware!!!!! My cards has been compromised twice at this Safeway. The first time was 3/12/24, self-check out. I provided the Assistant manager with all of my documentations. As of today, I have not heard back from Safeway. On Monday 5/6/24, my information was stolen again. The bank notified me on 5/9/24. Im in the process of filing a Police Report. I think it is an inside issue. I called the Store Mananger, my call was transferred but he or she did not pick up the call. SHOPPER BEAWARE, SHOPPER BEAWARE!!!!!!!!!!

The rude bald headed black woman cashier needs to learn some manners and customer service. Typical rude and arrogant attitude.I came in here after midnight on January 14th, 2024. I grabbed one single item and went up to the register to wait in line to purchase.I had no issues until I got up to the front of the line to pay for my item.As I always do, I held my item in my hands instead of putting it on the conveyor belt thing, because I dont want my item to touch the belt were there has been raw meat and other stuff.The cashier reached out to grab the item from my hands so she could scan it, but I pulled back and politely asked the cashier if she could scan the item with the scanner gun instead to avoid contact. The cashier immediately copped an attitude and acted like I was inconveniencing or disrespecting her. I do this at literally every store I go to, to avoid contact and Ive never had a cashier get all mad at me like this.There was no argument or confrontation, but it was just the rude disgusting looks she gave me for no reason and the tense uncomfortable feeling standing there. She never said Hi how are you or Thank you for shopping, Please, Thank you or anything. Just a rude attitude the whole time and silence as I walked away.Its hilarious too because the cashier was wearing a face mask over her face to virtue signal that shes supposedly so clean and not spreading germs, but then shes also wearing these blue latex gloves that are so used and dirty that the tips of the gloves were black. And then she gets mad at me for not wanting her dirty gloves to touch my item Im purchasing 😂Excuse me for not wanting want the item I purchased to be grabbed on by the same dirty gloves that have been touching raw meat, dirty money and who knows what else for hours.

I love Safeway because theyre the only store in the valley who still carry salmon steak!! They removed most of the bicycle racks. When I asked the manager why I was told that homeless people parked their bicyles there late at night. She is a lier. I used to do my shopping at 3am and never saw any other bikes there. And no I am not a homeless person. This is California and its about time businesses encourage the use of bicycles. Now there are only 4 bike spaces left, placed too close to the wall to fit the front wheel correctly. And their list of products currently in stock is a work of fiction. Too many quality products being replaced with poorer quality Safeway products.

It was so crowded and the deli was NOT stocked with ANYTHING during the lunch hour at 11:30... The staff was kind but had NO IDEA how to make any of the sandwiches in the deli... I was shocked that it took us OVER 30 mins to get 2 sandwiches made... And then the song check out is super sensitive and instantly freezes when there is anything remotely not scanned... The clerk at self check out was super helpful and understanding and was able to get us the correct prices for EVERYTHING! Im a Safeway lover, and Ive shopped at this store for years when living in the bay area, BUT the experience we had yesterday was unneeded and took way too long... I WILL give credit to Safeway though for their incredibly abundant amount of flowers and gifts for Mothers Day...

This is easily the best Safeway in the area in terms of selection, quality, space, and crowding; however, as anywhere, dont be surprised when that sale item sells out before you get there, especially if its breakfast (e.g., waffles, bacon). Of course, you can get a rain check at Guest Services, but only before about 7pm. The vast majority of the staff are friendly & helpful, with only the very occasional stereotypical retail crankypants.

Safeway has a problem with employing incompetent no nothing lazy people. There was a sale for Mix and match 4 items for $19.99. They charged me full prices. My total came out to be less than $50. And the person bagging my items didnt put all my stuff in the bag, when everything perfectly fits in the bag. The clerk told me to download the app. I never had this problem before. I always used my Safeway club card. They didnt honor my membership number. This is stupid. I will not download an app and waste space on my phone for this particular sale.

Safeway is Safeway Ive been coming here for many many years always has what I want except for a few things but I guess it goes with the times that change in the people that come and go otherwise its been pretty steady on everything. The only thing I miss there is the Mexican TV dinners they dont have a really big variety of those anymore if they do theyre the healthy ones but thats okay I make make my own Mexican dinners from scratch and I buy the stuff here at Safeway great job.

This is definitely “the bad Safeway” in town. Nasty checkout staff, payment system down constantly, bad produce, I stocked shelves. Even after a remodel, it’s dirty. I once overheard a bunch of managers talking about how bad their meat is. If you’re on the island, just go to Raleys, Grocery Outlet, or even Target.

Im currently pregnant and suffering from really bad back pain. Ill be giving birth in a week. So i placed a big order ahead of time just to pick it up.They claimed to be out of stock for almost all of my list. I found it weird so i went inside before my pick up time and i was able to find almost everything you claimed to have out of stock. Now i understand my list must have felt long for you 56 items. But again i ordered in advanced. You have enough employees because i saw lots of them walking around. I would give it a five but I feel the quality of service has gone down a bit. Im sorry to say that its just not fun anymore shopping there too many people yelling if you have a mask or not. Its just not that friendly anymore to me there are certain employees there that have been there for a long long time and I will always seek them if I need anything because a good employee always makes sure the customers happy and I dont complain. I just wish I can give it a higher rating but Im being honest. Anytime I have to make a mad dash in the store because I have to wear a mask its not fun anymore. And I dont want the obvious to happen all stores to close so we have to buy online I dont like that I like inspecting everything I buy.

Ive found a weird thing today which Ive never seen before, when a cart blocks before exiting the store, I didnt see any help available.One more thing is when Doordash assigns pick up the order in Safeway and this order contains alcohol but customer who placed the order was unavailable. So I called Doordash and they confirmed return, but when I came to Safeway, ask for store associate they didnt call store associate and started saying we are not taking back alcoholic beverages. It was really hard to resolve this issue. The interesting thing is that when I previously return the order with alcohol it was no problem.

The remodel is very nice with the isles being named after Alameda streets. Since the remodel they seemed to have gotten some new staff and almost all of them are so nice, a definite improvement! They remember you after a few visits and Ive been coming there for 2 years and that hasnt happened till now. Deduct a star for some of their produce prices sometimes, damn.

It has a good selection of Asian foods, I love their shin noodles and they occasionally go on sale for 2 for a dollar its pretty rare but its a good time to stop up on instant noodles. They also have good produce, familiar staff, a discount section, a nice pharmacy. And they have a bakery.

I don’t like this place ! I’m front it say mask not needed if fully vaccinated which I am and have the card to show ! I was on the phone at checkout talking and the cashier decides to listen in and ask me if I have sick family. Extremely rude ! Than she told me the mask mandate it going back into effect. I will not be returning. Learn to do your job and not listening into others conversations. I work in customer service and I would never treat my customer this way. Also your fruit sucks ! Always moldy and no taste when the fruit is fine. The prices are ridiculous

The current “business hours” are showing that this is a 24hr location, however, on 5/15/21, I visited the store at 12:27am and all doors were locked. I even called the store to confirm the hours and the automated voice system also stated that this store is open 24hrs. This Safety is a mega store and it has pretty.much everything a person could want.The ad specials are always a welcome find. This week featured pork cops at $. 88 cents a pound. Now, it might be logical to assume that a chop that inexpensive would be small and thin and not so good. These chops were large and about an inch thick. And delicious !I especially enjoy the fresh sushi and the cake slices.The inside Deli is usually busy, and most of the time there is a good selection of premade that day sandwiches in the cold case just across from the deli.Starbucks has a location inside this store, but I dont drink coffee so I cant rate it. Usually busy so I figure coffee drinkers like it.This location also has a DMV kiosk inside . Convenient, IF its working that day.The Flower Shop is stocked with all kinds of lovely flowers and plants. Nice for gifting.My only real criticism is that the front entry is not kept stocked with hand sanitizer and towels at all times. The last two times I went there, the sani station was empty. Not a good thing on a Friday evening around 5pm. The store was busy and it should have been full.I have come prefer the way Raleys has their cashier unload the cart at the checkout stand. Im old, I m tired...lol.. so I really appreciate that one difference a lot.You wont be disappointed going to shop here. If you have your heart set on a very popular ad item, Id suggest going in early in the day.If its out, Do ask for a rain check at the Customer service section or at the meat counter(If its meat)I like this store, I shop here all the time.

We were excited to celebrate our grand daughters college graduation. I searched online for graduation cakes and saw the perfect cake on Safrways website.When I went to the Alameda store, Mei informed me they couldnt do that cake but the bakers would do a nice job. We chose a cap, diploma and flag to include as decoration. One day before I picked up my order, I received a call from Kim asking what decorations did I want. I had ordered a marble cake withe chocolate buttercream filling. When we cut the cake, it was a thin layer of chocolate cake on the bottom and white cake on top with vanilla filling! Not good Safeway! Very poor service.

The level of cleanliness and freshness is on par with Pleasanton and other far off Safeways. But the major draw are the employees. Personable, friendly, courteous, and caring. You dont get any of that now a days. You will definitely love this Safeway location.

I enjoy shopping here and see employees cleaning throughout the store. The aisles are wide, produce and meat is fresh, and a good amount of paper products. Employees are nice.Pre-cleaned carts were readily available when COVID-19 hit but recently I had to retrieve a cart from the parking lot and wipe it clean.

So, went in to do a quick shop, 25 items on list. No wait to enter store, walked right in. Completed shopping in less than 15mins. Checkout took more than 30mins to complete once in line. Only 2 lanes open for shoppers with 16+ items. Both lines to checkout had at least 12 shoppers. Why didnt they open a 3rd register. After checkout complete, there was now a line to get into store, 50+ people deep.

Hard to say how I feel about Safeway. I like the variety I love the variety, I do not like their prices, but I do love that they give discounts on their gas to make up for their prices inside their store. I dont like the crowd, its really hard to get around in there. I like that its available everywhere. I love that they have a lot of gluten free things. I dont like how fast things seem to go bad but then again that might be my fault for not eating everything in time.

Deli area is very unorganized. 5 people working. Only 1 is helping customers. None of the 5 workers looked up the whole time to acknowledge the customers that are waiting. Once they were done helping the first customer they proceeded to help the first person they see rather than checking to see who was actually next. Worse it wasnt even busy. There were more workers than customers waiting.

I havent shopped this Safeway in I dont know how long. I had to stop at the post office lobby to send out two bill payments. Since I needed a few items to fix hamburgers, I stopped here to get those items (ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes) along with some bananas, sliced cheese potato chips, soy sauce and ramen noodle bowl.Safeway has expanded its store. Some of the items I could not find at first. They moved these items to different aisles.I only came here for convenience, as I did not want to travel across town to my go to supermarket. No telling when I will visit this Safeway in the future.

When 2 customers in a row need hard liquor price checks, it takes 25+ mins to get yer 1 item purchaed. Its happened to me twice! Otherwise its a clean store w a clean butcher counter.

This store is nearly always very clean and well stocked. Being such a large store is also has plenty of variety and just about everything you need under one roof. It is also wonderful that it is still a 24hr store for those middle of the night needs whether they be munchie driven or your baby is sick and needs Tylenol. Personally, it benefits me the most because i can shop in the wee hours of the morning before it gets busy and take my time without the distraction of people buzzing around.

Bad self-checkout staff - usually this is a nice with huge selections of groceries for shopping. However, a bad staffs little unfriendly attitude comment can ruin Ones pleasant shopping experience. I bough a few items and waited a little for the self checkout machines. Finally, I got my turn. After scanning all the items I carefully selected, and found out it didnt accept the cash. So I double checked with the cashier Robyn to see if thats really happening. She impatiently replied, thats why the (hand-written) sign is for!!! Oh My Gosh! All she had to do was just confirming something like oh! Sorry! these 3 machines are out order today, but the 4th machine there still takes the cash. If the signs were shown right in front of the waiting line, or right in front of the scanning screen, I would not have troubled to scan all the purchased items AND only to find the machine was not going to take the cash! The convenience of being next to Trader Joes makes this place great because they have some speciality things here that I couldnt get from TJs limited selection. I was able to find all the different peppers I needed for my chili and it came out really great. I was able to get the sliced tomato sauce from Mexico, Serrano peppers, habaneros and a good bit of spices to add into the mix to add some extra depth to my dish. It was a quick in and out because everything was labeled accurately and the self check out was good.The reason why I left the last star off is also because of self check out. The search mechanic on the item look up isnt so user friendly. I typed Serrano to get the peppers to show up and it gave me nothing. I had to type in peppers and scroll through the list. It also couldnt find Chinese Eggplant by searching either of the terms and the attendant that tried to help gave the wrong number the first time. Everything else went by smoothly so I was still happy with the rest of the experience.

Store was not very crowded, only had 2-3 people waiting for checkout on each line. The Safeway in Alameda added a second self checkout positions.Merchandise is fully stacked. There were attractive discounts on meat and cooked meat as well. I especially appreciate their $5.00 sushi specials on every Friday. Quite a selection of pies and cakes were also on $5 specials. Cashiers are mostly friendly and professional. I ran into a niche last week when the sushi counter is having a special...if you purchase one sushi ($5) item, you get a quart ofGlacial Smart water. So I bought 2 sushi and 2 qts of Glacial water. Upon checkout, the male cashier charged $5 for sushi and 7.50? for each quart of water. When I told them that the water is complementary if you purchase the sushi. The cashier says not according to Safeways computer. The cashier offered me the alternative to return to the sushi counter to pay for the sushi with comp. water.This took approx 20mins. I returned to the male cashier to show him my receipt and he started in my eye and says, if its not in the Safeway computer, I will have to charge whatever the Safeway computer says.....end of story. All and all, it got 40mins purchasing two packs of sushi.

The South Shore Safeway on Alameda has long been one of the best groceries on the island. It has a great selection of produce, a great bakery section with daily options for bagels, bread and donuts. Right now during Covid, this store is and has been really clean and organized. 4 stars only because the customer dont understand what distancing of 6ft means. I go 2x a week and only see security control the line on the weekends when most people are off work and do their shopping. No employee cleans or wipes off the baskets or the carts, workers just sit on a stool to tell you to point out where the wipes are at so you have to do the work. I have seen customers stealing whole hard liquor bottles, and security does nothing to stop it. The cashiers are doing an excellent job of putting themselves at risk to provide services to us the costumers. Tracy after the girl left she made sure she got me a ice water out of the fridge and got me some paper towels to wipe my face off with and stood there and talk with me until I was calmed down.... I have been coming to your store for the last 30 35 years.... I really like my chicken sandwiches from the deli.... I know the people behind the deli some of them, I have gotten to know them over the years.. but most of all I need to think Tracy and Anthony and even the security guard came to check it out... but by the time he got there Tracy and Anthony had it settled and the girl had to leave... Tracy rang up my groceries at customer service for me, and had Anthony walk me out to my car..And I want you to know you have some excellent employees there. They are dedicated to Safeway!!!!! This is my go-to Safeway just because it is in Alameda. Safeways selection of goods is large from organic and regular, do be sure to check which you want for produce as price can vary a lot and scattered in the area.Their prices are usually higher than most other grocers like Luckys or the Trader Joe next door but they are open at earlier and longer times. This location used to be 24hr until covid changes so hopefully if/when that goes away, it will be 24hrs again.They area also remodeling their store and things have been placed in different aisles(chips for me mostly), Im not sure if this is a permanent change, for the remodel of the newer self checkout, or a Superbowl thing though. So for the time being, be ready to go adventuring for specific things you might need.

Nothing special about this Safeway; same as others. Its large, has food, and is a typical grocery store. I miss the Safeway I use to go to in Pleasanton on Bernal Ave that a better selection. Anyway, hand held baskets are usually on one end of the entrances but never both. The other day there were no carts anywhere by either entrance so I had to walk back out to the parking lot to fetch one- didnt think I as a patron needed to do that. Ive seen many of the baggers/front end helpers that wonder the store or parking lot and visit with people/workers in specific departments. A young girl working in the meat department needs an attitude adjustment. She wheels her giant cart of meat out and literally pushes it right in front of me while Im looking at what Im going to purchase. She starting stocking meat so I just pushed it out of the way so I could actually see what I was originally looking at.

The non-organic produce is of below-average quality. They have intentionally kept the organic section bright and fresh to entice customers to buy that over non-organic produce. Disappointed. Hope this changes.

I use this Safeway often and have for the entire 12 years Ive lived in SF. Its always clean and generally well-stocked. Its kind of crazy on the weekends, though.

We ordered food at the deli and the 2 guys there were clueless on what we were requesting. They werent familiar with the menu or the ingredients. We had to point out what everything was to them. Jose was very rude throughout.When we finally got our sandwiches, we went to pay at the register. (The one at the deli counter didnt work.) Brandon our cashier had a bad attitude when we corrected a price error. Eventually he corrected the price but he slammed the register and doubted us.

Wow ! What can I say ? This has got to be one of my favorite Safeways to shop at. For starters its open 24 hours which is a serious convience for me being I like to shop at the wee hours of the night at times. And there is plenty of free parking available, a Starbucks cafe inside, a Safeway fuel station outside, a floral department, a bakery, a deli, a fresh meat and seafood department, a pharmacy, and plenty of checkstands and a self checkout. In addition its location at the Alameda South shore shopping center makes it convenient for me to shop, go to my Wells Fargo Bank, Kohls or other various stores. I really appreciate this Safeway store and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to buy groceries and more.

I called 5 times to place a cake order and 5 times they hung up on me. Finally I spoke to a person and she told me that I could not place an order for a cake. ??? What kind of business is this. Its a grocery store... One of the biggest grocery stores in Alameda so has pretty much everything you are looking for. Biggest negative would be that during busy times, evenings and weekends, there can be long lines at the registers.

Everyone that works there are a bunch of LAMES. NONE of them ask their customers if they need help or ever offer them help. Its messed up, they got hella confused people wandering around the store ..unsatified.Another thing that i think is so outta pocket is the cashiers are constantly on their cell phones texting or whatever- i honestly cant believe a company or union like safeway allows their employees to even have their cell phones with them out on the floor! I was once told by their employees to please give me a sec, i have to finish my text - RUDE!!!

Customer service is lacking at this location. Its the larger location in Alameda and there are never enough check outs available. Use the restroom before you go to this location. Its horrible; dirty, smells and filled with graffiti. I bet the employees that work there dont use that one.
