Probably the ugliest Safeway, and quite small, but the employees are very nice and seem to be treated well because some of them stick around for years and get to know you. Wish it were bigger and had a single line for all the checkouts instead of separate lines. Trader Joe’s is more affordable and has better products. Safeway bread, eggs, and dairy are low quality and overpriced. The store has become too expensive, but it’s still worth having in the neighborhood.

This store has the best, well stocked, fresh vegetables and fruits in the neighborhood. Even though the square footage of this store is not as large as other Safeway San Francisco neighborhood stores, it keeps their shelves well stocked throughout the day because the employees are so efficient at what they do. Ive always been so proud of the employees who work on the Monterey Boulevard location because, throughout the years, Ive seen how friendly, patient and kind to shoppers theyve always been. Thank you for finally giving me a chance to say how proud I am of your employees. You have no idea how incredible they are. Ive gone to many, many Safeway stores in San Francisco for the last 50 years and I must say that the Monterey Blvd location in San Francisco is more friendly and helpful than other Safeways in San Francisco or elsewhere in the bay area!

The store is clean and tidy, although there are some narrow aisles. Here you can find almost everything in food and household items. I found the Caspers hot dogs. All good, Ill be back.

Regular Safeway products, which I personally sometimes find sub-par. The building is overdue for renovation. At least they seem to improve the shoplifting situation. The doors are more organized, and now you can only enter and exit through a dedicated door.

This is perhaps the most dismal Safeway Ive ever been in. Things are broken, people steal/walk out with stuff. Its really unpleasant and we only go there to buy ice cream even though its very close to our house. When we do, they are frequently stocked out. There was a plan to redo the store to bring it up to a reasonable standard a few years ago but that got canceled.

Update: they are no longer talking about replacing this with a larger Safeway. The employees here are nice enough but corporate is soulless and only interested in making a profit. They have a worse selection than ever and have locked up all their toiletries so you need to wait to let someone get you the shampoo (which isn’t the brand you wanted, because they don’t carry that anymore). I still usually regret going here.This Safeway is convenient to the neighborhood and thats about all. They sometimes run out of things I consider staples (e.g. garlic). Checkout lines tend to be very long and yet the checkers move quite slowly. There has been talk for years about replacing it with a larger Safeway, but this plan seems stuck in eternal limbo. I go here all the time and usually regret it.

This Safeway needs to be updated for more space, as they barely have half of what the other Safeways have. Only recently have I seen more of the vegan options. And evidently the staff cant even scan a managers special coupon, thats directly on the item! Not worth going to, just take a bus to a further Safeway.

I highly SUGGEST always double checking EXPIRATION dates because I have come across MANY ITEMS that have expired days, weeks, and even worse. For example, one time I was buying a popular pizza brand in the frozen section and OMG it had expired the year prior. Another time buying waffles and similiar thing. ALSO BEWARE THIS LOCATION IS CONSTANTLY OVERCHARGING FOR ITEMS WHICH ARE CLEARLY STICKERED 50% off etc.

I will not be shopping at the 625 Monterey San Francisco eveer again. First problem was it took 8 min to get a shopping cart with no assistant from the workers in the store. Number 2 i ordered a sandwich at the deli with exact directions and the clerk wanted to dismiss my request by telling me that would be almost $9.00 however they had this other bread on sale walking me to bread on sale. I told her i was visiting my friend in the hospital and this is our favorite order when made properly. The sandwich was nasty i took it back. She made a sandwich that was even worse. I first called this Safeway location to see if the item I needed was available. I spoke with Alice and she was super patient on the phone with me. She took the time to answer all of my questions and did not make me feel like I was a burden. The cashier Kevin was quick and efficient and the bagger Angel helped me bring my two large bags of Purina One dog food to my car. Ill be coming back to this Safeway location for the wonderful service!

That having been said, they do carry a variety of the things I like including organic options and their prices on everything are tough to beat. Even the discount warehouses dont beat Safeway prices on most things.

Very convenient location and easy to get in and out of. A great store for the neighborhood and closest to me so very convenient, but unfortunately it’s an old small store with limited stock selection. Because of that, I’m often forced to visit other grocery stores farther away that are larger like Lucky’s on Sloat or the Safeway in Diamond Heights. Still keeping my fingers crossed that they will upgrade this location one day. Service is good, though at times seems like there will be long lines and not many opened check out counters.

The store is never stocked. You can’t even get a half of gallon of vitamin D Milk at night. Dirty, unkept, spooky. Guards everywhere, then they disappear. I alway have to ask for something that’s not out front. Tonight they closed five minutes early, and talk to me at the door until it was closing time. I usually go to the Safeway, in my city. They have flowers cheery employees. This place on Monterey, is in a nice neighborhood. I am shocked that the service is so low. And unfortunately, it’s the mostly convenient before leaving the city.

A veritable bounty of herbs, but no basil all week. I adore this place, which is why its not 3 stars, but stocking is a bit hit or miss. Small for a Safeway, funky for a Safeway, and never take for granted that something will be in stock. They run out of cheap Staples on a regular basis (celery, milk, eggs, etc.)

Smaller Safeway with a more limited selection. Items often out of stock, no matter what time I go. Ive gotten stuck without a cart because theyre all taken, and the elevator to the upper parking lot is broken, so be aware before you park up there - its hard to take a large load of groceries up those stairs by yourself. Staff is friendly enough, though.

Editing my review after a year of COVID:The employees here have been so awesome during COVID considering what they have been dealing with.5 stars for the employees1 star for the poorly stocked shelves, and also for literally giving Ed Lee a heart attack and killing him (probably from the produce prices)I live a few blocks away and have been shopping here for decades. So why do the security guards stare me down as if I am a criminal, every single time I shop here? Incredibly disrespectful to treat your customers like thieves

The experienced staff here is phenomenal, there are some real staff gems. The customers here can be tough. Tonight 9/24 @ 8:50 there was the most hygenicaly challenged client ever, a serious social services heath and wellness check hygiene issue, genuinely nauseating experience and the staff handled it with class. At 8:52 Georgia had to deal with a VERY rude mature female and again it was handled with poise, elegance and refinement. Safeway is so lucky to have the experienced staff there. The four stars is because the fruits, herbs and vegetables can be old.

FYI, look out for expired food. Tortellini was moldy and 2 weeks past expiration. Otherwise fine.Update: even not expired perishables can be bad. Bought milk and it became chunky almost a week before expiration date. I bought it to make yogurt and the yogurt didnt even like the milk and came out bad too.

I live two blocks away without a car, so its the closest supermarket I can walk to. Only eight aisles in the whole store so of course is limited in what it can stock. Staff knows the regulars by name. Disappointed when sometimes things I buy regularly are not there any more. If it wasnt there, it would be a pain to do all my grocery shopping at the Quik-E-Mart across the street.

Convenient place even if you do not drive. This Safeway is putting more house hold thing and food on sale more than other Safeway supermarkets and i usually get my sandwiches and steak from this Safeway. I also purchase the cat food here when its on sale because normally it costs $2 for a few ounces small package and it goes down to $1.49 when its on sale plus Safeway discount card and i even save more that i can buy a lot. My cat is very picky on food and he loves those small cat food packages and turns away large wholesale package.

Horrible, The cashier Dina was so rude to my daughters for no reason. My daughter asked her if lane was open ? But Dina ignored her and continued wiping her Register. I had to ask if she was open and then added your attitude needs a little work.she then began a covo with a Spanish customer. Very Rude service. Its a small store even for Safeway. The prepackaged deli items are overpriced and the soup bar is unappetizing and needs rethinking. Where are the crackers? The beverage aisle lacks good water choices. The organic and vegan selections are hard to find or nonexistent. There used to be a surly female checker who had an attitude problem. I walk through there maybe once a week only for organic bananas when WF is too far to walk for one item.

Typical Safeway though on a smaller scale. Has most things you would expect even though the store isnt as big as the ones in sunset or daly city. Has a deli and cafe eg. Fried chicken. The lines can get rather long during the evening when people get off work. Fridays are typically the long waits. The parking lot is usually packed on the lower level and open on the upper. Beware that car break in have been report during the day for the upper level.

All over the store- particularly the personal products/ paper & soap /detergent aisles, they advertise $30 purchase of special items yields a $7 rebate. THEY LIE. Then your checker suddenly closes up and goes to lunch. You get in another line.The new checker argues with you. She is not a mathematician, but keeps pretending there is a $7 rebate when there clearly is NOT any rebate. The line grows longer and impatient shopper glaring at me.As she could or would not honor the posted rebate, I was forced to return almost everything, fill out a form, wait for a manager.Why should this be a HUMILIATING process, or one that is this time consuming?I have been shopping here for the better part of 40 years.CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS. This is the worst Safeway Ive been to. Try looking at the vegetable section sometime, nothing ever seems to be fresh. Instead of firm and fresh its sad and sagging. Rotten product on shelves tomatoes with black fuzz growing and many times expired products. I am always letting someone know but nothing done. I usually drive to Diamond heights Safeway when I can even though Monterey Safeway is 2 bolcks away because of the ongoing quality issues.

This is the smallest Safeway Ive ever been to. They manage to have nothing Im looking for. The prices are higher than other Safeways probably due to its location near the st. Francis Woods. I normally go to Safeway in Daly City and that place is a world different. A last resort if you have no choice you can come here but dont be surprised if they Walgreens might carry more then this place. Its just my two cents or just my luck.

This is the 2nd time I visited this place and loved the food. They are cooking Indian food the right way, have a great menu, most of the items are also the best ones back in India. The keema paratha, the goat biriyani, the kababs served like sizzlers are some great choices if you are non-veg. The vegetarian menu and the food are great as well.Do have one of the desserts on the small table top menu, kulfi, rasmalai, lassi, great picks !All and all, they have a bright future.

Everything I bought was stale brownies were stale the rotisserie chicken was so overcooked it was like mush I bought some ribs they were almost not edible they were hard on the edges the keeblers cookies I bought were good and the drinks I bought were fine the staff was polite and courteous but I will be reluctant to shop there again

This is an older store that is really showing its age. When it rains, they position buckets around the store to catch the rain water leaking in. In all other respects, the store is average except for the produce which is far below average, even for a Safeway.
