I visited the store around 11:30 PM on May 28, 2024. During my visit, I encountered an issue with the pricing of an item that differed from the displayed tag. At self checkout, when I asked a female associate for help, I found her response to be unfriendly and unhelpful. Despite seeing the discrepancy, she did not correct the price. She then consulted a male associate, who also did not recognize the correct price at first. However, he did eventually correct the mistake. While the issue was ultimately resolved, the overall experience Is annoying. I believe there is room for improvement in customer shopping experience.On a positive note, I would like to commend the cleanliness of the store and the ease of use of the self-checkout system.

One of the cleanest and well laid out groceries Ive been to...friendly staff too! A pet peeve of mine has always been faulty shaky wiggling shopping carts. This location has carts that are really very well maintained and cleaned.The selections are diverse and the specials are actually on the items that you would buy or regularly buy. But they display varieties prominently, again showing good management. 👍🏻...update...lately my faves have been less available. It could be supply chain issues and what-not.

This is my go to grocery store!! I live in Willow Glen and it’s very convenient to have a store where there’s great customer service, knowledgeable staff and awesome security guards that make you feel safer while shopping. I’ve built a great rapport with the workers and can honestly say this is the best Safeway I’ve ever been to. Keep up the good work!

They need better workers at deli Station. Very poor customer service. I wanted chicken and had to wait 20min when there is no line. Then the lady finally came got me the 8 piece which was the smallest one she choose for some reason.

Weve been here twice now, both times at night (10-11 pm ish) where theres stocking boxes EVERYWHERE in every aisle and theres loud construction going on. youre not open 24h, you can hire people to do this after the 2am close...... management needs to schedule these things more efficiently. really wish there was a quieter safeway closer to our house

I use to like this place. But now the have bad customer service at the deli where I always buy food. This fat Mexican lady hate her job or something. She can see there is a line waiting and she just take her time making everyone wait 15 mins. Then give people bad service.

Avoid Jim at self checkout. While scanning my items, Jim barge into my space and gave himself a 10/10 on the survey; Jim did not allow me to fill in the survey with my actual satisfaction. He tried to tell me if he did not fill it in I would not be promoted to enter my phone number for the rewards. I have worked at Safeway for three years and I told Jim this, additionally telling him what he was doing is not right. Jim laughed it off. This is a scummy way to give his store an artificially higher customer satisfaction rating for his district. Ruined my shopping experience.

UpdateI am buying less there.Today, after weeks of buying not from this location, I went and got two loafs of bread and a package of onions.At the Self check out, this Latin-American lady is standing behind me, like she is watching me. Just creepy.I ask: can I help you? She replies, can I help you? I am just doing my job here. Full hypocrite vibe.I finish my purchase and tell her that I was accused once by one of her colleges to have stolen.Felt like she knew.And she interrupts and says: It wasnt me. Everyone can make a mistake.Harassing customers and then calling it a mistake, like it is a casual and occasional thing.That store gives me the creeps.The past 15 years, I bought from Safeway all over the bay AreaBerkeley (super nice people), Oakland, San Francisco, San Leandro, Fremont, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Santa Cruz, and so on.This place, is just weird and is the weirdest.Previous encounter:There are two security guys. One of them walks around with pink handcuffs and the other works in the afternoon.The afternoon guy was harassing me, following me around while shopping, with that Gestapo look, slightly provocative. Like a bully, basically.The first time I asked him what his mannerism should tell me. And he refused to talk to me. So because of his behavior went less to this location.Today, I bought groceries for around $100, and he kept circling around me for the entire time, maybe 15 minutes. At the self checkout he walks by like he was trying to scare me. Very provocative. So I asked the lady at the self checkout where the store manager is to report him and she asked why and I told her the security guy was harassing me Gestapo style. Then the store manager appeared, and I told her what happend.She didnt give any real apology.So I walked towards the exit. Then the store manager runs after me and said that the lady I talked to said I hadnt paid for my groceries. And I pulled out my receipt. Store manager was too embarrassed to look at my receipt.Are there legal actions that I can take?

The clerks are friendly and we have good conversations. Almost like going to a small mom and pop store. There are a few new faces, but theyre still helpful and friendly. Shelves are stocked now. There were distribution issues, but things are looking good now. Please note the store closes at 2 AM. The store is safe and has guards now.

Apple / touchless pay although beeps, it doesnt always work and self checkout area is very small, hard to maneuver. Else typical large clean Safeway but not so friendly staff. They seemed irritated when bothered to be asked something. More spacious than most and also less crowded.

This is the Safeway I like the most! Parking is easy! And tons of space and it doesn’t share the parking with other merchants. Inside Aisle is clean and very organized. Somehow less traffic too!

Store closes at 12AM not 2AM. Walked in unbeknownst to this new change of hour of operation. There was a few stragglers/shopper doing the same. Best to visit W San Carlos Safeway down the road!Trista, a very disgruntled associate proceed to voice her complaint over the intercom, in attempts to rush the remaining customer out the door. I was prompt to the next available isle, when asked about the hour of operation, the associate replied, Weve been closing at 12AM for the past two months!During these time its important to give each other grace and compassion, Im sure it was a very long and tedious shift but a little respect and dignity goes a long way. Please change the hour of operation on Google to the appropriate time.

Apparently, their Deli doesnt serve breakfast on the weekends upon opening because they have a lot to do and not a lot of staff, but I counted 4 bodies on there at 6:20am. I purchased some horizon shelf milk for my toddler 3 or 4 days ago. 3 whole milk and 2 strawberry milk. I was surprised to find them in singles. I checked the first two for expiration date and they were fine. So I placed the rest in the cart with out checking. Today my toddler had one of the milk and gave me the container and as I was dumping the leftover milk I noticed the milk has a lumpy texture. I checked the expiration date it was 1 sep 2022. I am beating myself for not checking all the milk packs but it’s also the store’s responsibility to move items that are expired. It’s not expired by days, it’s expired by months. Just be aware of your items expiration dates.

Safeway is my store of choice. The meat, dairy and produce departments are always the best. I will go out of my way to buy any of these items at Safeway even when Im closer to another market. Ive purchased at other markets items like milk which arent as fresh and expired before date. Never have this problem with Safeway dairy. Theyre sales are the best. And I save even more on 5 dollar Fridays. Staff is helpful and friendly. Great place to shop.

This Safeway has the most friendliest employees I have met in the San Jose area. I used to live about 3 minutes away from this Safeway and would always buy my groceries here even when there’s another Safeway on Hamilton in Campbell. The store is well organized and neat, clean, and the produce section is very large and spacious. I love their layout and finding items in this Safeway is so easy.

It has been awhile since I have been to this store. I remember it as being kind of dark and worn and not the most friendly of retail establishments. Today I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and welcoming the store felt. Employees were smiling and helpful and they had everything I needed in stock. Of course I spent about twice what I had planned but I might not need to go back again so soon as the refrigerator is full now.

Convenient place to shop. Not much internal space. The aisles are tightly configured where only one cart can go through the aisle.They have fresh produce and just about everything you need on a single visit.To be safe, I would shop in the morning hours if possible.

At mid-morning the parking looked like I should abort my shopping venture. But I went in and to much surprise, the store was stocked, organized, clean, and the lines moved with impeccable effiecency. Great Job Midtown!Now I am not sure if there is any correlation between the two but...Since my last review (nearly a year ago now), multiple affordable housing complexes have opened in the area. Conceptually this is wonderful on the surface for all the formerly unhoused. However, with the price gouging and inflation epidemic nowadays. Every time (which was 1 or 2 xs a week) I have shopped here, I have been literally watched by individuals as I walked in and followed back to my vehicle when leaving. Pressured by solicitation, and have witnessed multiple arrests or the infamous walk of shame of a patron being escorted by a secret shopper. I have resorted to only utilizing this location in the morning and when it is a last resort. And suggest that you always have your belongings (wallet, cell phone, loose money, or any items in your hand) be secured and put away in your purse before you exit the store. Just have your keys out and NEVER EVER leave your purse in the cart while putting your bags in your vehicle! Oh, and always, check your 6 . Which means you always have eyes in the back of your head if youre utilizing your trunk.Sorry midtown for the poor update.But safety first

The employees were helpfulthroughout the store but specifically produce and bakery. The aisles were free of obstruction. The store was well stocked with some minor exceptions (as would be expected during this pandemic). The cashier that assisted me was Mario. He has helped me in the past. He clearly enjoys working with the public. His forte is his customer service skills. Everyone is greeted with a large smile and greeting.

I truly enjoy shopping here for my grocery needs. This supermarket (located here at the corner of Hamilton and Meridian in SJ ) has been my favorite Safeway since moving to SJ. It has a less hectic pace, and better stocked and maintained inventory than it’s alternate central SJ location a couple of miles north on San Carlos, corner of Meridian. Generally good selection of items for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Their meat selection is available for self service and full service. Their vegetable selection consists of both organic and nonorganic products.

Happy to say this store has good customer service. I had called today to go pick up an item I was looking for that they had on special and had told me they had it at the store, but the second I arrived at the store and search for it they didn’t have anymore. Luckily we talk to Alejandra the cashier and told her our problem and she spoke to one of her team members and manage to help us solve our problem. This is what I call customer service, they manage to help you out instead of saying they don’t have anything available. Overall very friendly environment. Staff is very friendly and helping. Can get a little busy and after 11 theres only one checker so lines can get long. The night manager is a super cool dude. Safeway on Hamilton and Meridian is our go to grocery store. They are always courteous and professional, their selection of various cuisines (other than the standard), is growing and their pharmacy is so convenient. We were able to easily get our vaccines as walk-ins, our prescriptions are filled quickly and the friendly pharmacist remembers everything!

No recycle business here, not match to CalRecycle list.On Dec. 2, 2021, around 7 pm, went ahead to the service and asked for bottles recycle, because this store is listed on CalRecycle in-store Redemption website. However, the lady didn’t answer our question and she impatiently called one colleague to “help” us. The other colleague obviously doesn’t want to help us at all either. After one minute, they gave us an answer: we don’t have a bag for the bottles, we can’t do this for you.What an excuse, amazing job to turn people down. We just wanted to recycle some beverage bottles, and your store is listed on the government website. If you don’t want to do recycle business, then don’t get listed. But you are already on the list, then do something that matches and help human.Thumbs down to the recycle service here, no respect.

Safeway is Safeway, which is consistently nice. On this occasion, I had a bunch of loose change from my old car that I wanted to run through a Coinstar machine. I was halfway through when I saw a sign on the floor announcing that I could turn in my change at Customer Service for no fee, which I doubt given how rarely they are staffed. I went ahead with Coinstar because even at a 10% discount I knew I could trust it.

Ive been shopping at Safeway for 23years now, and although lots of the employees do leave to other stores, but its as though these people have known me so long my conversations with them is close to friendship as you can get... Yes I enjoy my time there while shopping, but Im going to meet a significant other soon in my future, I just know it,cause Ive been patient and self carding so to be a whole complete loving man with nothing to hide. Situated in the Willow Glen area sits this older and small Safeway store. It has pretty much everything that every other store has. Theres nothing really unique or glamorous about this one. But its my neighborhood store and has always come through and provided me with what I need. Its not a bad place to shop and yes Ill be back for another round. Wide selection of food and plenty of parking. The self checkout usually moves quickly, but the regular checkout lanes can get backed up. Avoid going to the store on a Sunday if at all possible. Its very crowded.Pro tip: California law requires that alcohol cant be sold at a self checkout lanes.

Due to the ongoing crisis, I tried ordering store pickup at 9am on a monday morning. I was pleasantly surprised that my order was ready for pickup at 7:30 am and I was able to retrieve them at 9am. The drive-up-and-go signs were huge and easily visible (since its my first time to this store). Out of all the items that I ordered, I did not get 4 of them which is expected due to the demand nowadays. Probably the best among the rest because Ive had a terrible encounter at another safeway at Menlo park.

While waiting for my number to be called at the very busy deli, I saw four deli workers, two of which were waiting on customers. The other two employees were too busy talking to each other and paid no attention to the amount of people waiting for service. I finally spoke up and one of the women did wait on me. Since the change to boar head, the deli is horrible. I have shopped there for 20 years and am considering g changing. 15-20 min wait every week I shop. Ive tried different times. Doesnt matter. There were two people in front of me and still 15 min at the deli. 4 people working in the back and no one comes out. Today I waited and was next and someone came from the back and helped someone else. Not much patience left. The managers need to open their eyes. Everyone complains while we stand there waiting. Came by to get emergency food for my dog (senior dog who has stomach problems and got sick so needed to pick up frozen chicken to boil for him). Have shopped here before late at night after 2 am. Tried to get in 9 minutes after 2 am and who I’m assuming was the on duty manager walked out and was locking the door told us they were closed. I let him know that and say that they are open 24/7, he just looked at me and shrugged/laughed and said they were closed at 2. Im new to the area so I came here today for the first time, and the service here is excellent! Every employee I walked by greeted me and most of them asked me if I needed any help. Since its Superbowl Sunday, I figured a lot of people would be shopping today, and even at 7am, they had over 6 lines open, plus the Self Check-out...I went with the later because there was no line there. Nice well-kept store. handled customers fairly quickly even under covid conditions. safeway is a bit pricey imho, but you have to pay for what you get. I used the u-save coupons from their flyer that you download to their deals & rewards app. app may be a bit nagging with notifications and location tracking, but you can turns those off. app is also was a bit confusing for me since it was not clear how the discounts are applied at check-out, but it did offer a few good discounts

It is easy to complain about woker’s behavior or items out of stock. But to share happiness about someone else’s great job is hard see. So Today I asked to talk to the manager personally to tell him, In the last 2 months I’ve been doing instacart in the greater bay, going to fancy Stores, smaller ones, huge companies and I can guarantee this specific safe way is being perfectly managed. Im so pissed off, I have ordered birthday cakes twice already, and everytime I call to go pick it up it turns out they never put in the order!!! Do you know how pissed off one can get??? Youre depending on it, and now the person has no birthday cake!! I hate Safeway for that! That is so wrong, I will never order another cake again!! Guess it will be Luckys from now on! Should of called them in the first place!!! Ugh so frustrating!! Now lets see if I can order one at the last minute!! The cake was for today, 5/31/2018 I even called a day in advance so it can be ready! You guys suck!!!

It was a rather clean location which is nice. I didnt interact with the employees much at all except for the lady at self check. She was nice, but not really paying attention when the system locked up and was stuck in a horrible cycle of not registering items after they were scanned. With that in mind the self check systems are clunky and always seeming to malfunction.The womens restroom was somewhat picked up and everything was in decent working order. Nothing was visably broken, the paper towels and soap was filled, and the garbage was emptied. My only complaint was that there were two toilets that seemed to have an over abundance of left over fecal matter and paper towels in them. I am not one to flush someone elses stuff if Im not certain that it will flush.

Good selection of items. But tonights crowd was like a scene out of the movie, Mad Max. Either everyone was moving 50% faster than I was or I was draggin it. To top it all off, I had some guy run his shopping cart up the back of my achilles heel.To be fair to Safeway, my issues are not with Safeway and probably more with me. This Safeway store is my favorite grocery store in this area. Ill be returning but next time with my running shoes on.

Aisles narrow. Crowded. Had to continually maneuver around people and small stands in aisles. Dont take checks. Staff curtious and helpful. Produce fresh and flavorful so far. But it took almost 2 hours to shop. Whereas typically it takes 1 hour.

PRICES: are a bit higher than at Luckys or Winco.It is very inconvenient that you have ONE line down the middle of the store to feed all cash registers. Its a weird system and customers are confused. Ive seen your customers get into arguments when people naturally go to an open register. You should consider going back to normal lines at each register. If you think youre helping this covid thing, youre not - people are not 6 apart down your middle aisle anyway.Stop making things so difficult for your customers and let us fend for ourselves in a normal manner - please. While the store is clean, the service at the deli is terrible, the 2 days before I decided to try the bakery, I took in a hat with a logo on it, the gal said it would cost more, I told her fine. It was a college logo simple block letters, my son was taking them to his boss as a thank you gift. When I picked them up it had a really one dab line for the letter. I told her I brought the hat in so you could see what I wanted. She took it and did more of a block letter but it still looked like a child did the lettering. Will never order from the bakery again. Already told my friends, my son was disappointed but had to take them, no time to order from another place, l did order them a day ahead of picking up.

The vast wine selection is what sets this Safeway apart from any other Safeway that I have been too. They have an extensive bottle selection to choose from with associated discounts when you buy multiple bottles. The store also has everything else that a regular Safeway does. A Rite Aid and a few good restaurants are also in the same shopping complex.

Produce is always horrible here. Even pre-packaged stuff, can when you get home and open it its bad. The fresh chickens, youre lucky if theyre 5 hours fresh. The counter with fried chicken and fries and stuff is horrible, its been sitting there for hours. The deli sandwiches are good, but thats about it. Stay away from everything else in the front.

Good WiFi for a the Safeway app. I only went to the store because it has an Amazon locker station but I would definitely consider driving to this location which is out of my way merely because the story is so large and has so much selection. It has a US Bank branch in it along with all of the other usual suspects in terms of vending machines Redbox, Lotto, coinstar, etc.

Do not order online with this Safeway. They never delivered on time, and I received a call from Safeway the day after the scheduled delivery asking if they can now deliver.The staff are unprofessional and lack in customer service skills.When Safeway has your home delivery orders delivered by Door Dash, they never give the drivers your full address and the drivers would constantly call me for the specific address. Poor service. Dont waste your time.

This Safeway rates between 3-4 stars, which is good considering I would never give a major grocery store a 5 star rating. (Just too much they all could do better).However, this is night and day when compared to the not as nice Midtown Safeway at Meridian/San Carlos.Its just a bummer because the lines at every single Safeway are always terrible. Ever since the law changed for plastic bags, it seems like grocers have reduced the number of baggers and checkers. Consequently there are always 5-10 ppl in a single check out line, with another 5-10 open checkout registers that no one is working at.

Meridian Safeway is constantly the worse shopping experience! Apparently nets an exorbitant amount of money per week boasts the employees. Store is always busy, yet only two or three cashiers (who are always complaining they need their breaks) resulting in long lines even in holidays! Self checkout employees are often texting with their cell phones and do not help the customers that just dont get self check out (elderly or just cant figure it out...simple help them out and finish their transaction, text on your break) Coded items (milk, bread, perishables) are not date rotated for expiration. Night crew blocks (impassable) aisles with pallets. Needed milk at 11pm had to beg an employee to move pallets blocking the milk. ( so much for ADA Compliance) Parking lot is dark, litter filled and creepy at night due to lights not working or saving energy (?). Store manager does not care nor respond/ takes action to complaints.

This review has to do with the store manager, Michelle (no, I dont know her personally). An unfortunate event happened yesterday with a customer whose return of an item was handled improperly by a store clerk. When I called the store manager (Michelle) to tell her of the incident, she was already working on it. She had been on vacation and was unaware of the incident until she returned to work today. She handled my call and will be making things right with the customer AND said she would also do something special for him. Michelle prides herself in giving excellent customer service to ALL of her customers. I find Michelle to be one of the biggest assets as store manager not only to Safeway, but to this particular store. She truly saved at least 185 customers by her professional and caring in rectifying this unfortunate incident and should be cloned.

Yesterday, I was purchasing some items at the self-checks and also requested cash back. In my haste I forgot to take the money. I returned today on the slim chance someone may have turned the cash in. As it turns out the attendant retrieved it and I received it today. I found out that this employees name is Mario. I wish to thank him for his attentiveness and honesty. Mario is always helpful when I use the self-checks; he does a great job of keeping track of all the stations and quickly responding to individual requests and issues. Congratulations to Safeway for hiring, training, and retaining exceptional staff like Mario at the Hamilton Ave. location in San Jose. Cheers!

Really disappointed in our experience today. We wanted to try the delivery as I am ill and wife is in a temporary wheelchair. They had our address wrong in the system we must have changed and confirmed the new address at least 6 times. Even received a VERBAL confirmation! We had to wait one day for delivery no problem, heres where it gets just gets stupid on their end. They call my wife and of course they are at the OLD ADDRESS,asking if they can show up a few minutes early;my wife says of course and asks where are you,I dont see you in front of my home Sure enough they are at the OLD HOUSE. Ok mistakes can be made... where we get a tad ticked off, the employee with all my groceries states he is going to call his customer service department,figure this all out and call me right back! (Said with such sincerity too) SMH. we wait for about a half and hour, call the number back that had called us, of course the coward now wont answer his cell phone. We get on the phone and try to get ahold of customer service for at least 15 minutes at which time FINALLY a gal from Phoenix answers the phone. The employee lied through his teeth to cover his butt. He claimed we were 35 minutes away or would have certainly delivered the groceries... LIE. we live 5 miles away from the last address. He tells her he called us back and apologized. LIE... we never heard from him after he had made up his mind he was just too lazy to make the long 5 mile drive that his company made the error in. Meanwhile the customer service gal is siding with him and telling me Im wrong that I never called or made any sort of attempt to confirm our new address, It clearly shows we did online. To make matters oh so much better *insert sarcasm* it can up to 10 days for my money to be refunded back into my account. Yet so easily taken out of my account! Sadly my wife worked for them back in the day when it was a great company. Its easy to see why they have such a fast turn around rate. Under the new contracts they have been forced to hire a lot of incompetent liars. This review is focused towards the 1530 Hamilton Ave. Safeway. Get your act together. Its sad to see what once was a great company employ cowards and liars. (Management, this took place on 9/29/17 appx time 1:45 p.m.)

WTF has happened to WG? This SW is ghetto, small, weak selection of regular SW products. Staff is ghetto, a few are fairly friendly, most are just miserable looking.. Just a bizarre experience. For the most part I dont waste time caring about what has become unfortunately a reality in SJ area, I just grab what I need and go, but this SW struggles to stock the most basic of essentials. Last time I stopped in, there was an apparent mentally unstable man meandering in and out of the store and shuffling in the lot like a zombie. Sjpd was called hours earlier yet still had failed to arrive. I dont like the meat dept. Very old looking and meat doesnt look good at all. There was old bacon that look like its been there for a while. Very dirty meat department.

Best location in the area. Really large, lots of international choices, large isles and super helpful staff everywhere!
