I guess this really became a trend that the employees are authorized to decide the business hours. I was inside the store around 1:15am but after 5 min, they announced thru the intercom that the store is actually closed, seriously it closed oddly at 1:20am?? And another strange thing is they dont have the business posted on the front door so i guess the hours are depend on the staff on duties. Good luck to shop there 🙄

* Safeway delivery doesnt deliver *I ordered my food delivery on 3/9/24. Its 3/11/24 and I still havent received my order! I have spoken to customer service multiple times, called the store directly 12 times and left a message for the district manager, Beverly Gendolfo, and still nothing. I spoke to the online order representative from the Almaden Safeway online order service in San Jose. The gentleman told me we dont have it ready for you yet, but we can set-up a delivery for tomorrow (3/12/24). Then he said they found it and he can door dash the order to me. He told me it will take 45 minutes; the delivery showed up 1 hour and 43 minutes later! This isnt the first time orders have been late by hours or even days! If you ask for a refund they dont give it to you for 7 days, yet the money was taken out of my account promptly on 3/9/24 the time of order. Why use this service of it doesnt give you service. Why call customer service if they can give you no help. Why place an order and set a delivery time that fits into your schedule if they can change it to when its convenient for them. Why use this delivery service at all?

This place is so policed and locked down, I feel like I have done something wrong while shopping. They have 24 carts, which the manager is happy to share because if you’re unhappy you really just need to understand he’s having a hard time too. I was followed to my car by 3 people (other customers and the one random homeless man who collects the carts for them) who then stood, staring at me, while I unloaded the cart so they could take it immediately. When speaking with the manager about how this made me feel unsafe I got “yeah that sucks, I have no carts, and corporate knows, I have emails spanning months”. Corporate knows customers are being followed to their cars?! And then he ends it by saying carts will be delivered the next day. Instead of showing some compassion and understanding and following up with, yes we are actively working to resolve this issue, I’m sorry you experienced that, I got, “tell me what I should do, give me a solution”.

My boyfriend and I have been consistently going to this safeway for over a year. Almost every employee knows and recognizes us, including a cashier named Shande or something along those lines. He is consistently racist toward my boyfriend, refusing to accept his visa, mexican id, or mexican passport, commenting they arent “real IDs” when we purchase alcohol. But he has no complaint when he sees my US ID. He always makes snarky comments and glares at us from the moment we enter the store and sometimes even out into the parking lot. He is grossly unprofessional, racist, rude, and a horrible representation of this company. Every single time I see him working I want to turn around and leave. We’ve complained to management multiple times and have been told about some of his unprofessional behavior with other customers by employees and managers. He is a blight in this store and company. And a strikingly disappointing representation of safeway.

Like the the staff, generally nice and very helpful. The only reason they dont get 5 stars is they tend NOT to check the expiration dates on Dairy and smoothie products. Ive seen Naked Smoothies that were discolored and several days past their sell by dates. Same goes for milk though it wasnt discolored. If u buy these products here, CHECK THE SELL BY DATES! Attached pic was taken on 3/27. Note the sell by date on the 3 smoothies in the pic. Compare the color to the second pic of the same product purchased from another vendor.

It’s very nice and big place also clean, they provide you a clean and sanitized shopping cars and basket. I used to go to produce to get all my needs and I always found everything I’m looking for, they usually have many different varieties of exotics fruits. But the store seems very organized and I like to get there, also very friendly people there.

This is the worse Safeway I will never go back to!!! Yeah, the area can be a bit sketch at times but to treat paying customers like this is wrong.The barriers and blockades for one exit and huge NO EXIT across windows makes for a very unpleasant shopping experience! ..but if that wasnt bad enough, Its a particular managers attitude that really did it for me. I asked for a certain product that I enjoy at other Safeways.. the Urban Remedy refrigerated area is a healthy arrangement of different pre-made salads and smoothies. This male manager tells me, we dont have those here and Im glad! Im guessing its not convenient for him, but extremely rude!!!!This was a few months ago and I drive right by, out of my way to visit a different location.

Just got back from shopping this Safeway today. Never any shopping carts, you have to follow someone to their car to get one. today, 2 days into the weekly sale, and they have no ad papers. not a deal breaker, The final straw, lets go get some sweet corn 3 for $1. The corn they have for sale is rotten No produce person to be found, I went to the guy filling the butter and cheese, he didnt seem to care. I ordered FINE cheese and fruit tray and this what I got, trays of fruit with cheese thrown on it because the morning crew forgot to put the FINE cheeses on the trays and still labelled the trays cheese and fruit tray. The afternoon crew did not know how incorporate the cheeses into the trays. Please add instructions for quality control to be done on tasks performed by the crew responsible for assembling the trays I ordered on November 5. The trays were very disappointing and not visually appealing and I will think twice before I order those trays again.

I removed my 5-star review from when this used to be my favorite Safeway and deli.Beware of Safeway Deli. I got real bad food poisoning from deli food but nobody from Safeway seems to care no matter who I talk to even corporate. When I called the main manager she thought I was another food poisoning in case. I guess they got a lot of food poisoning cases going on and they dont want to deal with anyone.And who is the owner from the reply posts. I asked the main manager if it was her or an actual owner. She had no idea.This was my favorite Safeway, but now I will never return.

Updated: there has been a cart shortage at this one for a good 6 months. Good luck getting a cart or basket. Theyre clearly not committed to solving that problem.Updated : the cart issue resolved itself a while back but it has gotten bad again. There is often not a cart available. After roaming the parking lot for one I finally left and shopped elsewhere.

Worst Safeway ever. I placed an order online for delivery between 6pm-8pm after 8:30pm I began investigating the delay. Online support said they couldnt get me an ETA but that they had forwarded the complaint and I should be receiving a call shortly. From 9pm to 10pm I was on the phone trying to get a hold of someone from the store as thats what support recommended I do. At 10:15pm someone finally answered and told me they couldnt do anything because everyone had left for the day. Neither the app, website or store manager could/would cancel the order so at the time of writing this review Safeway has taken my money and failed to deliver the groceries nor have they been able to provide an ETA of any sort. Safeways in San Jose and Los Gatos have gone way down hill. Last time I ever shop at a Safeway.

Every time I come here, the cashiers are rude. They mix up your items, complain about scanning your purchases, or complain about the customers in line while they are checking you out. I find it unbelievable that employees are allowed to say such things with such regularity.This location also frequently does not offer the items that are listed in the weekly or neighborhood ads. Theres really no point in coming here unless you desperately need something and cannot go to a different location.

I shopped tonight and went thru self checkout. The person working was so unhelpful, telling me rudely to read the sign and scan my receipt - I haven’t shopped in this store for over a month and wasn’t aware I had to “scan” my receipt. She was so busy telling my read the sign, read the sign, that she missed the female who walked straight thru the plexiglass glass with a bottle of unpaid alcohol.This is not the first time I’ve shopped after 8 pm and dealt with really snarky, rude and unhelpful employees. I had made an online purchase for specific items that was not delivered to my address. When I had called the customer service to ask if they were able to deliver the items they stated that they had the items in house, but didn’t have the staff and the ability to deliver it to me. it seems like the store is stretched, really thin with employees, and the customer service was very Kurt and very inhospitable. This is the second time that I dealt with this issue and unfortunately this is the only Safeway that delivers to my house. Great that this is open all night, but I really feel for the workers at this Safeway as it’s not a safe lot, it’s not well policed and there are always robberies and harassment going on every time I go in here when it’s dark.Something needs to be done about securing this parking lot specifically, and I would never recommend going here at night if you can avoid it, but definitely a shoutout to the folks that work at this Safeway, there jobs are harder than they should be.

Best Flowers in the whole area. The associates who work on the floral department are the very best in CS. I purchased a beautiful rise bouquet, babys breath and made 12 individual single bouquets. They were so kind to assist on Dia de Los Madres. They provided ribbon and Wrapping to allow me to make each look absolutely beautiful for the 12 Mothers I was to present them to.Great job Safeway! I was here for business and not only do you have the best flowers, you have a great donut selection.

The cashiers are fine, but I do find I am getting hit up more and more by pan handlers. I dislike that people who are not working are driving people away from places where people are trying to make an honest living.Edit: now it seems the cashiers are going down hill too. Last night the cashiers started bagging my groceries, then just stopped to look at a text on his phone. I was amazed when he just handed me the bag to finish and he went to look at his phone. Not even start ringing up the next person in line. He waited for me to finish bagging before he helped them. I understand it is a boring job, i did it for many years. But at least pretend.

Rude cashier, wasnt greeted with a hello, do you need a bag, wasnt told the cost, no eye contact at all, or a good bye. My items were bagged aggressively as well. Prices have skyrocketed to the point that amazon is cheaper and their products are fresher. No Foster Farms products available. Clerks are rude and argumentative. My local Safeway. They support the boy scouts and girl scouts by allowing them to sell cookies/popcorn in front of the store. I really appreciate that. There can be some vagrants near the entrance but Ive never had a problem with them. I think theyve had problems with burglaries so they now have a lot more security enhancements including a security officer, only 1 entrance, and lots more gates to enter/exit. It definitely feels safer.

Just over four weeks ago at my local Safeway (On a Tuesday morning during Senior and those with disabilities hours) an employee pushed a cart full of produce from the back to the produce area and proceeded to start stocking the produce. The employee had his mask down below his chin. So I proceeded to the customer service personal at the front of the store and one of them went to talk to the employee. When we returned to the area the employee was returning from the back and had his mask on. The customer service employee asked him if he was on the floor without a mask on, and said “no”, I proceeded to tell him “don’t lie, and tell the truth!”, he begrudgingly said “yes”, the customer service employee tapped him on his shoulder and said not to do that again.I called Safeway Corporate and filled a complaint about how the employees treated the situation like a joke.Two week later once again on a Tuesday morning during Senior and those with disabilities hours, the same employee was once again in the produce area with his mask below his chin! (This time I took a picture of him) I went and found the manager this time, showed him the picture and said he would address the issue. I explained to the manager what had transpired two weeks earlier.Then fast forward another two weeks, once again on a Tuesday morning during Senior and those with disabilities hours, I walk into the store a different employee was talking to someone (an outside company employee who stocks shelves) by the Deli section with his mask below his chin. (Yes I took a picture of this employee also) So I asked for the manager and was directed to the small office. I told the manager about what I saw and showed him the picture. As the manager is leaving the office, we both see the employee coming out from where the restrooms are with his mask below his chin eating on the floor!The manager went to speak to the employee and I continued with my shopping. As I get to the produce area, here is the same employee with his mask below his nose, pulling on his mask away from his face while talking to another employee heading to the back!When I got home I called Safeway Corporate and explained my experiences and asked for a call back from the District Manager, which I was told to expect a call back in 48 hours. So far no communication from Safeway regarding this issue!It is Safeway Corporate Policy that Shoppers and Employees are to wear a mask while in the store. Clearly, I do not feel the Manager and some employees take this policy seriously, especially during hours set aside for the Seniors and those with disabilities!

Good prices and friendly staff. That statement remains true. Finding a shopping cart requires you to find someone in the parking lot loading their items into the car and asking them if you can take their cart when they are done. Within the last two weeks I had a woman do the same thing. She followed me to my car and waited for me to get the groceries out of my cart. It was a good conversation but its sad that Safeway Corp is doing nothing about this. The shelves are often poorly stocked and missing items. This isnt at 2am, its late morning on a Saturday. Carts used for stocking are often left in the aisles. If you have more than one per isle, it makes navigating a little challenging. This is assuming you were able secure a cart. Items like Naked Smoothies are often left on the shelf PAST their expiration dates. This has happened more than once. If you compare this Safeway to others in the area: Branham & Snell, Branham & Ross, you dont run into the issues mentioned above. Consider your options before you go shopping.

I brought it to the attention of three employees that the lunch meat (I wanted to purchase) were all expired, but nonetheless NO ONE PULLED them off the shelf 😒 I would have been furious pissed if I came home to make a sandwich with rotten meat. In general, it is very serviceable. Safeway used to be a great full service grocery store. However, it appears that Safeway is moving away from a customer focus and becoming more like a Walmart. Sometimes the customer service is really good and sometimes its really bad.

The meat department manager, Matt, and the deli manager, Emie, are some of the greatest people who I ever work with. I used to work here long ago and I recommend both Emie and Matt on anything you need when you shop to this store. That’s one reason that I’m given a four points to this store.I wish to give this store a five but unfortunately, there are other ex staff members that still work here and they don’t deserve any points at all. Items on sale are usually out of stock, sometimes even when shopping when the store opens. Theres a middle-aged man who works there as a front manager who is consistently unhelpful and condescending towards women. Its an ok store if you want regular-overpriced dry goods and produce. Not a good place if youre looking for advertised deals or knowledgeable or helpful service from employees. These situations are made worse during the 2020 pandemic.

Very high prices. Found the same exact product at other markets $1-$2 cheaper. Its like your paying the extra to pay off their remodeling and upgrades. Recommend shopping somewhere else if you want to save half to a third easy of your money normally spent shopping Safeway. Believe me I have done the foot work and price comparisons. Horrible curbside pick up service. Order placed at 1:40. Told it would be ready between 6-8. Called at 6 for an update. Told they would package shortly and be ready by 7 pm. Terrible customer service from store manager name (Michell)!!!Went to this Safeway store around noontime to buy breakfast cereal for our homeless donation supply. We(Tabitha Circle) provide bi-weekly donations to a few homeless locations in SJ. Safeways Friday special includes 4 boxes of cereal for $5.00 which is a good deal for our budget. Just to confirm that there was no limit on purchase, I checked the weekly ad page and asked the clerk in the store and he said there is no limit since store ad did not specify any. I proceeded to checkout with 2 carts full of cereals and the cashier scanned all items, but it needed the store manager’s approval for the transaction. The manager (aka Michell) came and the first thing she said was “you cannot buy all these cereals”, next she asked me if I was going to resale these cereals in a very disapproved manner. I felt very uncomfortable because she was accusing me without any merit. I explained to her that these are for a homeless donation and I even showed her pictures of our group’s past activity pictures but she insisted “there is a limit for purchase” but she could not find the limit in the Safeway Weekly Ad herself either and kept insisting and told me to find the limit in the ad myself. At this point, I decided to take the high road and leave the store.Fyi, Michell,I had no trouble making the same purchase in the Braham Safeway store and their staff was friendly and courteous. Our family patronizes both this Almaden Expwy and the Branham store, but we find ourselves here less these days. Everyone is super friendly and helpful, but lately weve noticed it isnt as stocked as it used to be. For 3 weeks my favorite snack hasnt been stocked on 5 occasions; we shoot over to the Branham store and voila! Theyve got plenty. Weve also found a few other items at other Safeway stores when Almaden is out/unstocked. Hopefully its a temporary glitch because we really do like the workers and its a nice, roomy store. Theyve struggled lately with shopping carts being stolen so if you see one in the parking lot, grab it cuz otherwise you may have to wait. We know theyre working on a solution and its certainly not their fault, but just a heads-up to shoppers. Also, the regular cart guy is great! Very helpful and goes out of his way to make sure they are clean and returned to the front of the store for the next customer.

The 6 reserved parking spots closest to the entrance for online order pick up is ridiculous. This lot has enough traffic as is and it is sometimes difficult to find parking. This was a bad idea and I will never do an online order since it is not a time saver. I also want to see readily what might be on sale on nearby products. Get rid of the reserved spaces.

Great! I live by the new store on Cottle and trust me that place is a nightmare. The only time you can shop there would be early in the morning or after 12 a.m. I think its time to start coming to this store as the people are very friendly and its not that busy. Long check out lines, oftentimes expired or mishandled food, the employees seem miserable and I can understand why. Theyre worked to death because of the lack of adequate staffing. Ive been standing in a queue now for 26 minutes and Im 3 people back in the line. The lines extend 9 and 10 people deep down the aisles with 3 lanes open. This seems to be the norm and not an isolated incident as each trip here has been the same odeal. Ill be going elsewhere for groceries. This is ridiculous.

12/22/2017... the store was clean; restroom needed maintenence, cleaning & supplies. Produce selection was good. Tbey were completely out of Reddy Whip; no Apple Jelly - they dont stock it at all; I had to open the case of cherry pie filling (means they were technically out on the shelf; restocking crew was working hard but only one cashier and lots of shoppers. Gone are the days of threes a crowd & since were neighbors lets be friends. :(

I work the graveyard shift and shopped here since 2015. It once was a friendly place to go shopping on my way home from work. I found myself being followed around the store and it was blatent. This is a conveniently located grocery store that is well stocked and clean. My only complaint is they often insist on bagging my items for me and so far not a single cashier or bagger knows how to properly bag things. They put very illogical items together even when I bring plenty of bags. They seem to love to squish bread and put raw meat in with foods that will not be cooked to make sure there is plenty of bacteria. I offer to bag myself, and try to group things how I would like them bagged but its often ignored. That being said its still where I do most of my shopping. With a little staff training this would be a great store.

This review isnt about all employees. This is my safeway store and I go there every week. I had a bad experience with guy named Chris( hope spell his name correct, he didnt have name tag I just asked his name). I understand Safeway is usually short on employee and they really get exhausted sometimes but these guy was almost yelling at me because I couldnt hear him the first time he told me something. Personally, I think the store can be better arranged in which where they locate there products. I have to use a walking cane for my joint disorder, but the pain I have to endure is great when out shopping, so this would help out drastically and not only for myself... The lanes can get extremely long, so thats why I dont very often come to this location and on top of it the bread they put out daily is usually burnt as well or not properly baked. self check out lane computers are a bit tricky to work seeing how they are the new updated versions, as Ive still havent gotten used to them and when I struggle none of the employees offer to assist me even though they are watching me struggle... This goes for all the employees at this store, they need better management at this location is all Im going to say... Lastly, the parking lot is, well, a hectic parking lot haha.

At Christmas (2016) they had salvation army staff hassling people to donate to their sqewed version of a cause. This gentleman was verbally abusive to customers as they entered or exited the store, I heard him proudly claiming to be an ex gang banger who would smash your head of your shoulders. How delightful a greeting to recieve when trying to enter this store. Not sure why Safeway allowed a fundamental Christian to threaten physical violence towards their customers. Probably the same management who makes the roster for not enough staff for the cash registers.

The bathrooms are disgustingFirst time I used them, there was a bra in an unflushed toilet and I saw a cockroach run behind one of the toilets.Second time I was there, a month or two later, the bathrooms still were dirty and I felt so grossed out using them. I like this place for onething. Excellent egg sandwich breakfast for $2.99. Toasted. Have hot sauce on the flat bread. I love it.

The turkey dinner was a no go they told us it would be ready to serve when we picked it up but no take it home and cook it for 2 plus hours what a joke they need to explain that during the order process not a happy customer at the moment so we are having pizza for our Christmas Eve Dinner
