This place is the closest to my house yet I stopped going there because of the customer service. I went there today to purchase a few cases of beer. I explained to the cashier that the app is not showing the sale but it’s in the weekly ad. She was very rude like it was my fault and I was making her job hard. The manager was nowhere to be found. Going to this store is like preparing myself for a battle!

A smaller SW but good parking. Staff and other customers seem friendlier than others that I have shopped in. It has a deli but lacks a bakery. It is in Montclair and has easy access to Highway 13.

A great place to shop if your looking for the essentials.Small store so the selection is pretty basic.Depending on the time you go youll have to store to yourself.Staff is mostly friendly aside from a couple of people.But they are well informed.Pretty clean store.Should be a decent shopping experience.

CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS. I have caught many instances of them overcharging for items, charging more than the shelf said, not including sticker discounts. Usually it’s a few dollars so I don’t bother going back, but I’m sure they are making millions off people doing that.They move too fast for me to watch as items are scanned, so I notice this when I get back home unfortunately.This most recent time they charged $25 when they should have charged $16 for an item, so I will be returning for that.Wish I could just trust the company to charge me the correct amount.

Lived in Montclair for over a decade. This Safeway used to be great, however the quality of this Safeway has tanked starting some years back. The employees are often rude as can be, stand around talking usually, putting their jobs second (slowing down efficiency), and today some cashier named Erica copped the biggest attitude I’ve ever seen out of no where because I asked if they could split my payment method so I could get rid of some cash on hand first.She looked at me as if she’s never heard of doing that before and adamantly refused saying stores can’t do that while continuously laughing it off to other employees and gossiping.Moral of the story, all stores CAN and do split payments into cash/card payment, and this store truly unfortunately needs an almost full restaffing.

I actually avoid this grocery station like a plague and tell all my friends and family visiting to not come here. I came one night after I threw my back out and my fiance had to drive to come get me from work. I gingerly walked in, looked for a heat pad while he looked for food. Heat pads were hard to find as the area was too over packed, and then walking by the deli was a STRONG RANCID ROTTEN meat smell. Definitely not the smell you want in a grocery store. It made the whole back part of the store reek! Absolutely hated it. And I couldnt walk fast to escape. It also took forever to find what we needed. I never come here. I drive further to go to Lucky.

This is for the DriveUp & Go service. I’ve used it 3 times (today being the 3rd time), and it’s been an awful experience each time. This will be my last time.The point of Drive & Go is to save myself time and from going into the store, for various reasons (need to get home for caretaking, COVID safety), and every time I’ve had to wait 15-20 minutes and I have to go into the store to get someone. Their phone also doesn’t work. Truly disappointing.

Its a small, older Safeway, but surprisingly well stocked. I have come here when the bigger stores were out and have gotten what I need. The line is shorter and moves fast, and the employees are nice and do a good job. One of my favorites.

Store pick up is trash. These dummies substituted stuff that I did not request to be substituted. When ppl are spending their money it is not cool to substitute items without asking the customer. I also don’t appreciate the fact when I called to complain abt getting the wrong stuff the minimum wage worker tells me it’s because I made the substitution. I never made any substitutions to anything and if you don’t have what I asked for then it should have just been refunded as opposed to some dumb grocery store worker making food decisions for my household. Now I understand why they work at Safeway. They are too dumb to have a good paying job and will always be a bagger and a loader. My fault for having higher expectations for a low skilled worker.

I have been in this store twice. As a Safeway this store is small and does not have the widest selection of choices. The staff are really friendly and treat you with respect. When I go to Montclair it is for the other stores and restaurants in the area. This Safeway is more for the locals than it is for a grocery shopping spree.

This store gets three stars because its like a tiny house. Very small and cramped inside. No bakery and the deli does not have a big selection. There cant be much more than 30 tight parking spaces in the parking lot. On the brightside.... store is always clean and well stocked with fresh basic necessities. Staff is always friendly and engaging. Also, you can sometimes catch a good deal.

99% of the staff there is extremely friendly. Brendan in the meat counter always helpful very nice Mark extremely nice always helpful Patty always has a smile on her face the new assistant manager shes awesome. There is one heavy set blonde woman cashier there that has a serious attitude problem and is extremely rude not only to me but to my elderly family its a shame we spend well over $1,000 a month and we will never go back. Everybody else is absolutely great except for her avoid her if youre there.

The staff and clerks are friendly courteous. I see this store more like a Safeway Mini Market Price for certain foods are higher than most Safeway stores in Oakland because of the daily thievery from the homeless, youth and your typical crooks that live in the area. Therefore, big list grocery shopping should be done at their larger stores. Overall, management appears to try their very best to provide quality customer service. So I give this Fruitvale district store 5 stars 👏

Smallest Safeway I use, but the nicest clerks running the registers. Shopping here 22 years, it was my favorite, it is my favorite, it probably always will be my favorite. Clerks and stockers are nice to customers, nice to each other, questions are answered, stuff gets found if its there. Live yeast. Marsala wine for chicken. Non-fat cottage cheese. Ground buffalo. Rocky and Rosy chicken, and Bruce whats-his-names sausages.The vegetables are fresher and better displayed than at the bigger stores. Reasonable organic/conventional mix. I havent used the deli counter. Everything else is as good as any Safeway is ever going to be. And the people who work there make it the best.One change? They stock the local Everett & Jones Medium BBQ sauce. My family prefer Mild and I get it somewhere else.

Small Safeway in an old building. It lacks a good variety of items. Organic fruit selection is limited. Organic vegetables were stuffed into a small area. Yogurt selection was small. Found a non-dairy cream cheese but there was only one brand, kind and size of non-dairy yogurt. Selection of whole bean Peets coffee was limited to one decaf and two roasts. Deli area looked normal. Restroom was awful. Had to go into stocking area and step through water to access restroom near employee breakroom. Employees were nice. Considering that this store is located in a desirable area, it isnt a nice shopping experience.

There was no one making sure that carts and baskets were sanitized.... During this time of Covid19 it is essential that ALL equipment is cleaned and sanitized properly... I did see one person that worked there put a dirty cart back with the clean carts...i know it was not cleaned because I just finished with it....

I placed an order on Friday morning for pick up, this afternoon at 2:45pm, when I arrived, the order was not ready, the person who took the order was the same one who didnt have it ready. She added some other pieces to make up the order, I appreciated the just but not the lie. I realized later that this wasnt a store that I have used in the past.I will be more selective in the future. I stopped in for a snack because I was about to sit in traffic for at least an hour. It had been a few years since Id been in this store, as I now live in Pinole but used to live in Montclair. It was unclear at first how the lines worked, but a cashier pointed out that there was one line for all the registers. The line moved quickly and I got everything I needed, plus some potato egg salad to take home.

The cashier was rude. She asked me if I have Safeway Club Card. I cannot hear her so I said sorry Ill give her my phone number. And when I looked up to her, she shocked her head and rolled her eyes. She is the Caucasian woman with shoulder length blonde hair. I was told by somebody that was a manager. Even my wife said he is rude. As I walk out of Safeway, couple of customers told me the same thing. If she is maybe you should fire her. How could she still a manager?

Let me start by saying the staff at this bramch of Safeway are stupendous. They will go way out of their way to do whatever they can to help! The reaon Im giving this safeway only 3 stars because of how great the employees are, other wise this would be a 0/5.This Safeway is basically like a slightly larger neighborhood corner store. If you’re looking for large variety of options to pick from when your shopping, this is NOT the store you want to go too. However, if you are just looking for a quick in and out shopping experience this place is perfect for you. I recommend calling ahead if you need someithing specific that you’re not sure they have. The awesome employees will be more than happy to help you.

The assistant manager with the dreads needs to adjust her attitude or go work at a DMV. The store manager Barry is simply inept.The chicken tenders taste like they were pulled from a Burger King dumpster and reheated.Bought a steak from this place a week before the sell by date, cooked it immediately and it tasted like it had sat out in the sun for a day before they sold it.Lines are always ridiculously long.I could go on and on. Simply put, it’s one of the worst locations in Oakland. Only reason they’re in business is because they sell liquor.

Needs an upgrade. Isles are tiny, cant help but bump into other people, or be helplessly stuck behind them, which is seriously unpleasant aftert a long day of work. Terrible seafood counter. I have not shopped at Safeway Monclair in a long time. Car windows get smashed during the middle of the day. One evening we were walking into the Safeway as thieves were pushing their way out out of the store with as much alcohol they could put into baskets and steal.

This store is closer to home for me than the one in Rockridge but I prefer the one in Rockridge. The store in Montclair is cramped doesnt have great selection because its small and doesnt always have people working to help. I do my larger shopping trips at the Rockridge store because they have better selection and its easier to find everything.
