Safeway@Rivermark plaza is nice. Has a wide selection of dairy, fresh produce, ready to eat fruits/salads. I love their decor with fresh flowers on sale for every occasion. Safeways are great convenience store at every 2 mile of residential areas but on a pricier side. Has the north park library and a playground in adjoining plaza. It sells balloons, cakes, pastries and houses a Starbucks inside.

If I could give 0 stars I would. This is by far the worst run Safeway store in this area. Sadly it is the closest to our house so weve been going back to it. Regularly they sell expired products (milk, yoghurt, etc.) on the shelves and are still being sold. I should not need to worry about buying milk thats way past its best by date. weve had numerous instances of meat or produce bought that day that was bad when we opened it at home. Today 2 items that were within expiration date were moldy as they also dont seem to be able to store their products properly. The store manager needs to take a close look at his operations its a sad showing. Yesterday was definitely my last trip there, will take my money elsewhere even it it means a little bit of a drive.

I’ve lived in this area for 10 years and this has been my main Safeway for all that time.Recently I’ve had two encounters with the store manager Vivian where she dismissed me and told me I was wrong and couldn’t do anything about it although my time was wasted and the mistake was on the store. First situation, was when something was marked down by one of her employees and I waited 30 mins to get helped by someone only to tell me I was wrong and the price couldn’t be matched. Secondly, I was in the store and due to the remodeling, a fridge was completely empty in which I needed something, I couldn’t find an employee anywhere for guidance. I walked around the whole store, finally ran into the manager and she told me there is nothing she can do to help me in regards to what I needed with a snarky tone.This is my home Safeway and I do not want to have to travel further but may have to do so to avoid this type of service.

Go to store for grocery. Big Store with a lot of variety. Late nights are the best coz there is no rush. Have been a loyal customer. Never been disappointment with the service. The staffs are friendly. variety of products available. Fresh produce and bakery selection. Love their black forest cake. The wine assortments are good. Ample parking and short lines at check out.

Huge Safeway store in a great spot, large selection of items (Starbucks Inside). Ample parking, short lines, and great customer service.Shopping Experience:The store is huge, one of the biggest in the area. Since it’s large, they have a good selection of items. This includes those little things you were looking for. The produce department has a large orgánics section, a deli department, sushi, Starbucks, and more. You can get everything you need here. They also stock this store regularly so I rarely encounter out of stock items.The Location:Great Spot in northern San José. It’s located inside of a congregation of other stores like chipotle. So you can eat lunch beforehand. It’s located on a large byway that leads straight to highway 101, making getting home easy! Parking is ample and I never have to fight for a spot.Overall, 10/10 for a grocery store. Nothing to complain here. They do have occasional break ins in the parking lot but I’ve never experienced it myself. I’ve seen police activity occasionally and seen complaints here. However, don’t leave things in your car and you will be fine (this applies to all of California).

Fantastic bakery section, always full of fresh baked breads and treats. The Deli/Meats sections is also regularly stocked with fresh fish, specialty cuts of beef, pre-cooked chicken, you name it. There is also a great area to pick up an on-the-go snack or hot lunch!

One of the staff is pretty rude here. I think another reviewer had a similar experience with the same person.Hey Safeway,I realize your staff is overworked but they have no sense when they are rude. I asked for help finding an item. The staff told me to check with someone in the bakery. I told them there was no staff there. They told me thats because theyre closed. Of course it was, why else would I ask them.

Like any other safeway if youre in the rush in the morning dont expect to get through the lines quick theres always one cashier maybe and remember you cant take alcohol through self checkout so its a bit frustrating when youre there for a 30 minute break and you wait in line because the cashiers decide to talk to every single person without line is going down one lane of food and a little ridiculous love the customer service but when your line is more than 10 customers keep the chatting to a minimum and get people to the line quicker thank you for taking the time to read my shirt review

Huge, Clean and Well organized store. All daily groceries, bakery items, alchohol, etc... you can find here. Located in a Rivermark shopping complex with multiple other stores and restaurants. Parking gets tough during day time. There is also a Starbucks inside this Safeway. They also have a self check-out counters but are closed late night. There is also a CA lottery machine at this location.

I like coming to this particular location since its close to where I live but the customer service here can be tricky. Its usually hit or miss. Today I was given a very poor attitude by the black woman working in self checkout. Mam if you hate your job just say that🙄😒😂. Not my fault okay. Your attitude sucks pretty 👎🏼 bad. Hopefully things get better for you & you quit picking on innocent customers being a jerk for no apparent reason.

Went to safe way for their $5 deal on waters and aside from the rude customer service from the cashier when I inquired about the rain check the associate was quick to tell me they don’t do that on $5 deal fridays and he went to mention that it’s on the ad. Well I read the ad and no where does it have that statement. Tried calling the customer service for clarification on the policy and they never answered and the automated answer repeated. If your looking for affordable groceries this Safeway is not budget friendly and have very rude service and they don’t ensure customer satisfaction at all.

This is my store after work. Its so conveniently on my way home even though I dont live in Santa Clara . Good fresh bakery I get my office breakfast goodies here. Nice deli section. The floral section is good I get my flowers and balloons here to for special occasions. Parking in the plaza can be tough but if you got patience it will work out!

Not a very Safe location. My vehicle and 4 others were broken into. The cameras in parking lot do not work and security doesnt have a strong presence there at this location. Literally in there for 4 minutes. Also there is one assistant manager there who treats customers different based on the way they look. She wanted me to take my mask off in order to check ID for alcohol purchase. When I pulled it down just enough to see my face, she said no and told me to take the whole thing off. This right after letting a white gentlemen through no worries and no face check with bottles of alcohol. I was buying KOMBUCHA by the way. Had to end going home with no Kombucha. Never coming here again.

Update: sometimes they put foods that are about to expire. I had to exchange the cake I ordered online because it’s going to expire 2 days after ordering. Instead of the new one, the shopper just took the one that’s going to expire soon. I think this is the problem I have when ordering online coz I can’t get to check the expiration date of the products and the shopper just grab whatever that’s on the shelf without considering the expiration date. But I can’t blame them because they need to do their job fast.Update: I never had another problem picking up my order from then on. So great service overall.They cancelled my order even though they said to the customer representative that I will be able to pick it up. I was not even given a confirmation that my order is good to pick up and had to call customer service and said everything was good he had to call the store and the store said my order is ready but it’s already 7:30pm yesterday night, so I decided to pick it up today and said it’s gonna be okay, however they cancelled it. So the $10 points that was redeemed has gone to waste. Bad customer service. I don’t know whether it’s the system or it’s in the hands of the employees to either send a confirmation or not for the order to be picked up, but I never got one.

I just had a great experience at the Rivermark Safeway and I’d like to share with everybody. I was running in last second to grab a birthday cake for a coworker and I chose the Tres leches because it’s the absolute best. I wanted a few changes to the cake and Emma, in the bakery, went above and beyond for me :) From the writing on the cake and even changing from clear to a white (fancier IMO) cake box. Thank you for the awesome customer service, you made my day!

Ron in the deli is amazing. He has a great attitude and every time my wife and I go in we see him. He is always smiling and always helpful to us. Great employee and an awesome man. This Safeway is my go-to grocery store, not just because of close proximity but because the store is a blessing to shop at. Plaza is abundant of restaurants to eat. Parking is spacious. Interior is always clean. Selections are full. Huge self service area for faster checkout. Sales constantly happening. Customer service always ready to help with issues. Accessible restrooms in the front. Clearance section for breads, goodies, and meats. Lots of organic options always stocked. What else do you need?

The cashier at the self checkout counter was very rude (7:10 PM, Sunday, Dec 18). I had purchased 2 packs of alcohol that had 4$ discount (17.99 each) from the original price (21.99). Instead, she gave me only 2$ discount and charged me 19.99 each. I asked her to double check the price as I was pretty sure the tag at the shelf where I took the alcohol from had 17.99 on it. She said she has to go and check. After going and checking, she still claimed it was 19.99. At this point, I just let it go. After the billing was done, she said the rate is probably more because I also took chicken with the alcohol. I was surprised by that comment as I dont see a reason why buying chicken has anything to do with the discount. So I went back and checked and the price indeed was 17.99. I came back and showed her the picture of the price tag. She then gave me 4$ in cash and as I was about to leave, she mocked me saying that I was making a big deal for 4 $. I went up to her and said it’s not about 4 $, it’s how honest you are towards a customer. Such rude people reflect that Safeway doesn’t value their customers and it is evident from other 1 star reviews here.

We are regulars. Ron at the Deli Counter was always so kind a cheerful when my boyfriend would order from him, or when we’d go together. However when I go just by myself, he treats me with rudeness and hostility. Today was the last straw. I don’t want to be Karen, but it’s not just me. He treats women customers differently than men, and I see it happen with other women while I wait in line. He needs to be disciplined. I dont expect much from Safeway, all I ask is that their employees don’t go out of their way to be aggressive toward me when I’m shopping alone.

Bakery dept is top notch. I was able to get a last minute cake with birthday boys’ names on it - in 15 minutes - a miracle considering usually bakery orders need 24 hours. They used what cake they had in hand and it was delicious! Choc with strawberry filling. Customer service was wonderful and the gentleman was happy and kind with my ask.

One of the biggest Safeways. It has a Glacier water filling station inside near the produce section which is really clean. It disposes 1 gallon per press which is really convenient. Fast friendly staff and fully stock. Security guard too active, Maybe good or bad, perhaps we are new in the area for a vacation. Its like having your personal security escort. It would be great for your website and signage to state “FREE FLU SHOTS except for Kaiser or whomever patients”… I did the entire website registration and appointment for it without being advised I couldn’t get the shot until I awaited 20 minutes… It would also be helpful for the woman at the pharmacy counter to just quickly ask what a customer is there for. I am very disappointed in my recent interactions with Safeway in Santa Clara’s Rivermark. On my last 3 home deliveries there was a picking/packing error and I did not receive something I was charged for. Details:1. At the first recent delivery error, I brought my receipt back to the store to show the manager I was charged for something I did not receive. He immediately gave me what I ordered and apologized for the mistake.2. Next time, same scenario but my husband brought the receipt and attempted to obtain our needed item.The store clerk (Eastern European possibly)could not have been more rude and condescending She argued with my husband that his word was not good enough. Do u not have inventory check to see if a recent adjustment was made or a spot count to see if the quantity is accurate. Oh also my husband is black. This felt very racially charged and she was the only one getting visibly upset. Finally a manager came over and replaced the item.3. On my last order I ordered fairlife chocolate milk and received eggs waffles instead. I am not going to bother going to the store to correct this because it is exhausting and very demeaning to be treated by race.Everyone should get the same positive interaction that I received the first time. I am white by the way. The store needs micro inequities tabs MACRO inequities training. OI hope that clerk was reprimanded. That was not ok. But also why so many mistakes. Who is shopping for these orders?

This is my regular grocery store. Very friendly & helpful staff. The produce is always fresh and quickly re-stocked. The bread and bakery section is pretty good. It also has a deli section, although I havent eaten from here. There is a Starbucks inside near the entrance. Can find most items easily. It gets super busy during the weekends. Prepare for long checkout lines. Parking situation and the lot size have vastly improved. Can improve the wine, beer and liquor selection. My only complaint is the Glacier water filling station inside...it is a huge waste of time. It doesnt work most of the time and takes 35-40 minutes in between fills, forcing people to buy their water !! They should remove/replace this station.

Fine store but sort of scammy without prices on items like the hot chicken. Only the by the pound items had prices (individual) I asked how much the 2 leg quarters were at the counter. After a few minutes they said 6.99, it was 7.99. Management not paying attention to the details. Things are so expensive now customers need to see prices to make choices. Also no easy way to get napkins. Utensils not marked so grabbed two forks trying to find a knife but didnt want to put it back because cross contamination issues.

I like this Safeway, it always has parking in the front too. They have a pharmacy and a nice amount of self checkout stands which helps when you have 5 items or less. It is weirdly organized however- still trying to figure out the aisles. This Safeway also gives good coupons on the receipts and staff have been really nice. This Safeway is huuuge and I’m glad it’s in a plaza with a bank, coffee shops, and restaurants. It’s a one stop shop. I really like the variety of items here which makes this Safeway I would say upper level compared to most and the lines outside of self checkout move fast too.

This is where I regularly get my groceries. Its conveniently located and inside it is always bright, clean, and organized. Staff are generally friendly and helpful. It has several kiosks and a Starbucks inside in addition to its deli and prepared foods counter. It can be hard to find parking on weekdays around lunchtime, generally between 12 and 2. But any other time, it hasnt been a problem.

Very clean and well layed out. It was a very nice experience to shop at this Safeway. They have the usual departments; but they also have a sushi/poke bar and bulk nuts and dried goods. I ran in to the Safeway at lunchtime. Parking was pretty tight. I really liked the inside of this store! Its a big store with lots of selections. The chips isle was great, and had a lot of unique items, but I still didnt find the rarer items I was hoping to find. There is a Starbucks inside. Really long waits for checkout later at night. Self checkout always closes early here. Two cashiers, but no self checkout. Self checkout does 8 customers per cashier as opposed to 1 customer per cashier. No express lane open either. Lines are 10+ customers deep.Cashiers are rude and unhelpful. They go as slow as they possibly can even when they know theres a long line, especially at night. Really really poor customer service.

I recommend against curbside pickup here. I’ve had two orders in a row with damaged products and a third order where they substituted a significantly more expensive item because the one I ordered wasn’t in stock even though the website said it was. *I’ve only ever had really good experiences with workers (especially the bakery department, and the pharmacy) inside the store, though.* I want that to be clear. The store is clean and fairly large, but before occupancy restrictions it was always really crowded.

This Safeway is quite crowded since it is near several apartment complexes. The Sushi station has a great daily selection freshly prepared with care. For a quick late late dinner this option has helped me veer closer to healthy, and not just hitting up the frozen food isle. Thanks for being open early and staying open late! I go to Safeway when I need a few items because it’s the closest Supermarket. Groceries are quite expensive here, but the flowers, plants and orchids are nice. I usually get them as gifts for special occasions and they last a long time too! I signed up for their email for weekly specials, but I don’t really eat those items so I pass. Today around 2:30-2:45 PM I went in to the Rivermark Plaza Safeway to pick up an order for a Door Dash customer. Found all items quickly, appreciated that they had all the specific items my customer had requested. Got to the first cashier named Alex I believe. He wrang me up quickly so I was happy but then the Red Card that Door Dash issues us to pay for items that require immediate payment by vendor was declined. I felt bad and was embarrassed because I was now holding up the line but Alex brought forward his excellent customer service skills and made me feel cool like it was ok. He really went above and beyond to show me all was cool. He even gave me some time to call my company and he had someone look after the non perishable items while he went on break. I got through and was instructed to try again. I went in and this time I got cashier named Jose. He was cool and had the same excellent customer service skills as Alex because just like with Alex my card was declined again. Both Alex and Jose demonstrated to me that no matter the situation they remain calm and professional. These two young men should be considered for any open leadership positions because their influence on others will result in more employees that know what customer service really is about, good job you guys.

One will get everything here. From birthday cake, balloon to meat, sea food. All personal care, dog stuff, baby essentials and what not.Location is perfect that some times it seems THE shop nearby. When you go at market place for any other reason, you will definitely find your self in this shop after some time.I usually prefer buying meat(chicken)and seafood here. Ive had friends who had their car broken into, and Id always see this plaza in the police blotter for break-ins. The irony is theres a police substation down the street. This review is accumulated frustration from many visits, over a long time frame. In this store, it is normal to wait 10 minutes or more in line at the checkout. In 3 out of 4 times, the prices at checkout are incorrect, and they are never too low, but always too high. It is also impossible to follow this in real time on the screen, because every item has a non-member price, and a member discount, so the screen is getting filled up with garbage numbers that you cant process fast enough before it is scrolled out of view. After experiencing this so many times, I have no other explanation than that the overcharge is intentional, not by mistake. Im also upset about my experience from when I had cashed out my credit card points in form of a Safeway e-gift card. They insisted that I bring it on paper, even though I was showing the email and gift card and barcode on the screen, and all that they would need to do is scan if from the screen instead of from a printout. Not only that, they insisted that this prevents fraud, even though it was clear that anyone who has that email can also print it, and printing it is just work and extra cost but does not add any security. When I then brought it on paper, they attempted to load it instead of charge it, and even after they figured out how to charge it, of course the item prices were wrong as always, but that time I needed to go to customer service to get the difference paid out in cash.For that reason, I many times choose the Walmart Neighbourhood Market 3 miles away.

Whats $300 worth of groceries in my cart at the cash register I found out that while I was payroll check has been deposited the funds were on hold.The clerk was kind positive and helpful as we set up a note for them to put it in the cooler in hopes of returning the in the morning to claim our groceries.It was the weekend so the bank couldnt do anything, but the customer service counter was very helpful and positive and retrieving our card so we could remove our own bags, and then consigned it to a courtesy clerk to restock.When I went back to buy what we first intended I had nothing but positive feelings about how we had been treated and enjoyed that shopping experience, quite successfully.

The guy in front of me was visibly frustrated, but politely bit his tongue. I cant imagine why a person can work so slowly and be able to maintain a job. I assume he is sick or has an issue that management is ok with. Whatever... That is Safeways problem, right!?But when my purchase rang up much higher than expected I asked him why. I am a regular shopper at this location, and they have been great, even during this difficult time, most of workers are polite and helpful. Today while I was shopping, there was a cart used by Safeway employees blocking my way, so I pushed it out of my way and continued shopping. Then a young lady suddenly pushed me with her shoulder, grabbed the cart and walked away. It felt intentional and I didnt feel comfortable with the way she did what she did, I followed her to another aisle, and told her it wasnt nice thing to do, and she told me she did it because I touched her cart. We exchanged some words, and then we ended our little argument. I love this Safeway and I will continue to shop here, but this wasnt a pleasant experience.

I am being very honest telling my experience with pharmacy’s manager, she is being arrogant disrespectful, rude, not listing to patients.I have been long time costumer at this pharmacy, I have tolerated long wait time just because I like the folks there, since she has taken over the pharmacy it’s been downhill since.I have changed my pharmacy since, it’s Safeway’s lost, because there are other good pharmacy’s are around the corner.Safeway should investigate and discipline her; otherwise one by one they will lose customers.

I use to visit here almost twice a month, which is best in quality and almost all the items available here, like food, bakery fresh fruits and vegetables. And they have Primary care center along with Pharmacy, i use to go and buy almost everything that i need at one place. Best for liquor too who wish to buy everything at one place. But i found liquor prices are little expensive here than Walmart and Costco.But here they are offering like reward kind stuff with their Safeway Card.. If have that card you can get rewards and discounted price specially for them. And here one more thing to mention that they have fresh Seafood and chicken in packed. I use to buy Shrimp and chicken at their special counters.And parking Space is good at all times, but might be difficult in weekends. In their pharmacy they are proving free access to check your health, you can check like Blood pressure, Cholesterol levels and its a pre guided software installed in it.And they have CA Lottery counter and help center separate section, which we can get help and as well as they have Western Union Money transfer to transfer money in seconds to anywhere in the world.

My favorite Safeway in Northern California. Pre covid I would eat lunch at the sushi bar inside the grocery store (inexpensive by Silicon Valley standards) before grocery shopping my then toddler son. Clean store. High quality ingredients. Well stocked produce. I like their responsible choices selection when it comes to sustainable seafood.

The service needs to be better. When you go, its impossible to find someone to help you. Their website does not give the list of items available and so I called them to check the price and if they had that specific item I wanted. The lady who received the call refused to give the price, citing that shes in another department! The least the customer service department should have is the same list of items and prices as a checkout counter or offer to transfer the phone! This to me, spoke of an unhelpful attitude of the staff. They have a brand to live off of and dont see the need for service perhaps.

Updating my original review: I have lived next to this Safeway for several years, which is the only reason I continue to so here. To the casual shopper, it will look like any other Safeway youre familiar with. Same products and layout. But unlike most Safeways Ive been to, this one is chronically understaffed. Both the checkout lanes and deli counters take far longer than they should. Unless you live in the neighborhood, try another Safeway, Trader Joes, or the new Whole Foods.

This Safeway is ok and has everything you need, but so does every other Safeway. This one is much more expensive than any other Safeway I have been to. I think they raise the prices because of the area this store is located in. Its not like the groceries have gone up in the other Safeway stores, but they can raise them here because people will pay either way. The Parking is terrible, and if you come at certain times its tough to find any parking, and you are waiting in long lines to pay for groceries. All that said, I still shop here when I need a few things because its down the street from my house. For all other groceries I go to Walmart, because I save at least 30 to 50 dollars when I buy all my groceries.

This location is not 24 hrs. One employee mentioned they have a new system in place where from 1am -130am they are close. i come to checkout lane at 1258am and was told to wait 30 minutes and look at magazines which is outrageous. i was told to come earlier, which was rude of her to say. What if one of my household is in need of a over-the-counter medication when i get off work. No solution is in place for this and will not be coming to this location for any products.

She had a long line but rather than helping customers she was chitchatting with another worker who was going off for break. Also she didn’t explain what the Safeway “club card” is to young black gentlemen who was in front of me. That was very rude of her to rush the young men to pay the ridiculous total amount which was $23.00 for few water. The young men was asking her “what is Safeway club card? she just told him to insert his card and rushed him off to pay. A better way to serve a customer is “oh a Safeway club card is this and this and that (explain) then maybe offer him to use the store card for once. The young men seemed lost and confused. I spoke to him outside and he said he is from Los Angeles was here for work first week here. He has never seen Safeway anywhere. Seems to me Safeway is not big. He said they have Food4less, Albertsons” etc. I took a moment and explained to him what the “Safeway club card” is. I like the store and staff for ther most part. I dont like a cashier by the name of Joshua (I think thats his name). He was very rude to me the lady tone were went there. My teenage daughter picked a line and I followed her with the baby in tow but I didnt realize it was the Express lane. Joshua didnt bother to say anything until I took everything out of my basket and then he chose to raise his voice and be sarcastic. I apologized and said I had no problem moving to another line but he said in a rude tone well its too late now. He continued to say things under his breath while everyone around just stared at me and I stood there humiliated. It was an honest mistake on my part, my baby was crying and my teenage daughter was trying to help but yet we had to deal with a rude employee. Now I avoid any contact with that guy.

Checkout lines are not well managed. There are not enough lanes with checkers and the checkers show poor attitude when they need to help a customer fill bags. Checkers will, however, dash off and leave the lines untended when a customer doesnt write the bin code on a bulk purchase. They obviously want customers to use self-check lanes but CA law doesnt permit self check for alcohol--which nearly everyone was buying.

This is possibly the worst safeway I have ever been to. I have been shopping at it regularly for 5 years and do not think I will ever return because the items they carry change so often that at least once a month something I have been buying years will be removed. I can list over 20 items that they no longer carry that I use to buy on a regular basis. If your looking for expensive/mediocre produce come to this safeway. If your looking for nothing but IPA beers come here and if your looking to change what you buy literally every time you walk in the store. Come here!

Went here to pick up 2 prescriptions and was told they hadnt received one of them. They instructed me to call my doctor. I called the doctor and the doctor assured me they had sent it. Went back to pharmacy and told them this. They requested the doctor to resend. Miraculously, they found it a few minutes later next to the fax machine. They were extremely slow and disorganized. Dont waste your time here. Go to CVS on first Street instead.

I went to the deli section for pitted Kalamata olives. The container for the self serve was empty. I went to the counter for help. I caught the eye of a clerk, eho was helping another customer. I waited patiently. As soon as the clerk was done, he turned his back on me, and went to the back. I could see through the open doorway that he was chit chatting with a women. I again waited. There was no bell to call someone and there was nobody else about. Finally the woman came out and I thought so would the man, but no he went to wash a sink. Nobody is minding the store ... deli counter. It took about 10 more minutes before a roving employee showed up. He had no idea if there were more pitted Kalamatas. I showe him a sealed container of the olives, but they had no price or description as to whether they were pitted or not. He wouldnt do a price check. He ask the guy in the back but he was still useless.I do not recommend using the deli counter at the Safeway in Rivermark.

Refused to sell us a bottle of wine with Canadian drivers licence. Talked to manager and it is apparently Safeway policy! Passports only, no photocopy!! I sincerely hope you lose all business from Canadian tourist. I will never shop in a Safeway again!
