1. Very bad experience. My doctor ordered a medicine 2 days ahead and i spend 1 hr and still not resolved. I’m not sure why it’s so hard to pick up an order. We do not have to wait, what’s the meaning of ordering in advance?2. Spending that hr in front of the pharmacy i had enough time to see the stand or colorful gatorade presented as sugar free. When i looked on the back it showed lots of sugar 21%!!!! That’s how people are encouraged to become a loyal client of the pharmacy in the future?! Fake adds - also chips and other unhealthy snacks are just right there by the pharmacy desk! So be careful, everything it’s a scam without knowing. And the service, well, you judge!

Im pulling two stars for terrible customer service. Its currently 9:21 a.m. and I went in because I need a cashiers check to pick up the keys for my new apartment. They told me I would have to wait an hour because the one person who can provide that service is at lunch. As far as Im concerned, this is unacceptable. If you provide a service, it needs to be available to your customers during all hours of operation. Completely unacceptable that I now need to go and find another location because my neighborhood Safeway is defunct.I mean, not my favorite. Havent recovered from the time I went in at 9 am a Saturday and there was no deli food available. Not a single boars head sandwich to be found. Tried to blame renovations but there were 2 empty coolers. They have shut down all but one entrance and have so much security it just feels uncomfortable. I prefer grocery outlet. (DO NOT VISIT THE NEARBY LUCKY!! Its 1000x better here!)I wish you could respond to other reviews, but you cant. So Im going to add that if you see five star review from O.M. please disregard it. All of those items are made in house day of, so all the places he couldnt find it isnt because they sold out, its because they never made them in the first place. So it wasnt going out of his way to make him a fresh one, it was doing his job after having not done it.This is why you cant really trust any of these reviews. You just have to go and see for yourself. Luckily this is something you can experience without having to actually spend money. You could just come in and check it out for yourself at whatever time of the week you usually do your shopping.I also wanted to add that I really enjoy the app and because I dont like going in the store most often I order through the app and then go pick it up. I do very much enjoy the convenience of sitting in my car instead of going into the store. And the app has good features when it comes to your discounts and offers, out of stock items, substituting items, and being able to create multiple lists and move them into the cart when ready. And the service itself is good because the shoppers are pretty communicative and they have to bring you the food that they packed, and its pretty hard to defend bad work in someones place. So they are always very professional and pleasant. In my experience. So Im going to add one star because of the app and curbside pickup.

This place was very confusing to navigate. Couldn’t find my way out because they have a bizarre labyrinth at the front. I get it’s the Bay Area and we have embraced lawlessness but they made it too confusing just to keep the second set of doors closed to curb theft.

Used to be our go to Safeway but now you feel like a prisoner shopping here with all the security and fences. Why do all the thugs have to steal in the Hayward area? We just drive to the CV Safeways where it’s less crowded and I can shop without feeling like I’m in prison. So sad it’s become this way… this is why we can’t have nice things in the area. Imagine if the rumored Whole Foods opened up across the street and have to worry about all the thefts.

This store, while maintaining a decent stock and ok customer service, is still lacking in a few departments. For starters, their bathrooms are always messy, and are pretty darn gross.I was also hurt on one of their carts, cutting open my finger. I feel bad for their staff because they had 2 first aid kits and they were empty. If someone gets hurt there, there is nothing they can do. I had to run over to the CVS next door to get help. I hope none of their staff is ever hurt, or theyd be in trouble.While they have beefed up security, safety and cleanliness have been left by the wayside.

I know yall want to deter thefts but your security is a walking liability. Hes posting videos grabbing and roughing up people on Instagram to the account @securityguardsam and even responds to comments saying where he works. At the very least teach your security not to be clout chasing while putting your business at risk.

I like this one.. compared to others it is pretty well updated and up kept. The store has a great kiosk for Starbucks coffee, if your too tired to walk across to the Starbucks store next door. The lines sometimes get tooooo long but thats normal I guess. And I am a fan of the sandwiches ya DIGnMe!Lol

First off I just needed one item for my kid at 11:50PM. Security tells me it is closed. The hours of operation doesn’t reflect this. Wasted my time in the late evening if they aren’t honoring the hours of operation. The security at the door was named Kam without a badge or any identifying information.I’m just irritated why they don’t change the hours of operation to 11:45 if they don’t intend to be open past that. Freaking asinine if you ask me. I’ll just use Amazon delivery or do my shopping on the weekend at the farmers market.

They pick and chose who think is the thief in morning I was shopping I always go Safway take my time to get my stuff I always do the self checkout in that morning I seen that the lights of self checkout was on then I was hidden that direction but I forgot one item I want somewhere to get it When I came back I seen one of employee saw me and thought me spending a lot time in store mean that I was stealing then he decided to turnoff the self checkout And send the Gurd Secuirty to be in front !!! I simply went and cash out in the lady in register I was felt bad and discriminated against !! This Safeway is incredibly slow! The check out lines are slow, the deli line is slow, the sandwich line is slow, the prepared food line is slow. Its not just that there is a lack of staffing, although that is also an issue, but it also seems to be a lack of motivation amongst the servers. I guess I dont blame them, but as a review, this is a fair warning to anyone going here that they should expect long wait times.

Discovered yesterday that several of the most frequently consumed foods I purchase are significantly cheaper at Target. Bread, yogurt, ground turkey, pulled pork, even cleaning products were all 10% to 15% cheaper. If the pricing were close, I wouldnt worry about it - but the difference is too great to ignore. Luckily for me, Target is in a more convenient location than Safeway, so its a win-win situation for me.

Holy moly….talk about feeling like a prisoner while you shop. They made all the security enhancements at the store but wow, this is an all new feeling. It feels like navigating the TSA line at the airport when you enter this grocery store now. Seems like an effective way to make you feel like a criminal while you shop at the most expensive grocery store in the area (even though we all know they’re clearly stealing from you from the get go with those insane prices. $9 for a box of Cheerios? Seriously?) anyway, just go to Trader Joe’s. It’s cheaper and the employees are less akin to club bouncers.

Do not ever go to grocery stores for your flower needs. The flowers are second rate and old. They don’t last at all. The price seems attractive but now we know why!! Conveniently located in downtown Hayward, this Safeway is the best to stop for grocery shopping. The parking lot is big and it feels safe around the area.The store is very well organized, the employees always have a good smile for you and overall it’s a good customer service.

Overall, this is a good Safeway. Clean and well staffed. I had a little bit of trouble finding a shopping cart at first, and they didn’t have a few items I needed. One of the self checkout machines wasn’t able to give me cash back. But the cashier was able to help me instead.

Nice staff and courteous checkers. Bathroom needs better cleaning though. Sometimes when fundraiser people are outside, they cover BOTH entrances so you HAVE to pass by them. You get asked if you are interested in helping out coming in and leaving, but they are not rude about asking.

Charles was working as the self registry attendant, he was very snarky and was rude . I didn’t know the rules for exchanging propane tanks . I asked him if he could help me but he said yes but he told me I should have read the label and told me to go in the regular lines in which was very long and he could have simply helped me but he continued to talk to the security guard and turned away from me. I wasn’t acting like a Karen nor was I ghetto. I’ve been shopping there for couple years and never experienced such negative and rude behavior . He literally embarrassed me in front of other customers and snickered as he stared at me sort of challenging me to do something . I thanked him for his “help” but he just rolled his eyes . He was tall, white, slanky, unhealthy, fat and had really sad and depressing eyes that drooped down with reading glasses . His vibe wasn’t happy and I had to get a manager involved .

I go here every couple of weeks, the weekend traffic can be a bit overwhelming but any day of the week is pretty relaxed. Way bigger with a nice variety of goods than I am used to. It would be nice for the store to have more employees especially during weekend rushes, for the benefit of the staff that is. Some times I feel pretty bad when there are a couple of clerks checking people out and there is 10+ people in any particular line. That aside I like this location.

Typical Safeway, pretty good but there are better grocery chains out there with better food and prices. Recently refreshed and pretty clean inside. It can get very busy, especially around 5-7PM. Long lines for checkout and the deli every time. They run out of stock for things I need occasionally, but I cant blame them for that knowing the sheer number of shoppers that come through this store every day.

I love the new renovations! It made the shopping experience more enjoyable. The staff is great at the self check out, but they should only allow that option for people with less than 15 items. People will have overflowing carts of groceries using self check out and then are slow or dont know how to use the technology. Its irritating especially when you only have a handful of items and the majority of your time is spent waiting in line because of the rude people that use self check out with well more than 15 items.

Excellent, very conveniently located, its really good to have a Safeway here. The internal layout is pretty standard for this market and one can find most everything that is needed for regular grocery shopping. We love to go here especially when preparing a party outdoors. This time I picked up charcoal and party supplies (cups, plates) and soda for the kids. In and out in minutes, and with the Safeway card I saved over five dollars.

A courtesy call would have been appreciated to let me know that the job I applied for was no longer available. I wasted my gas and time driving over here for an interview only to be told that the position was no longer available. The manager tried giving me deli which is not what I applied for. If we didnt live so close, we wouldnt shop here. Cashiers are slow, food is often out of date, sometimes by several months. We once opened hot dogs we had just purchased that were green. The shelves are often empty. A lot of mentally ill homeless hang out in the parking lot - one followed my husband into the store, threatening him, and the Safeway security guard watched the whole thing and did NOTHING. Panhandlers are everywhere. My daughter will not go there after dark, and would not walk through the parking lot even during the day after being followed by a creepy guy in a van while walking home from high school one day. I dont always like shopping there after dark, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.If you have the choice, shop elsewhere.

I am disappointed by the lack of inconsistent service, especially at the Deli. The Deli is constantly understaffed and its set-up to help people does not make a ton of sense sense. For example, I got redirected to the sandwich line when I was getting weekly deli meat, and then we ended up going back to where I was originally waiting to get the meat and measure it.Spent 30 minutes today just at the Deli when I was the 3rd person in line. This seems to be much more structural and managerial in terms of the issues (The Deli staff, especially several of the elderly ladies, are usually helpful and nice). Hope this changes, but I have encountered this bad experience at multiple Safeways (mainly the Delis), and I usually do not experience this when at other groceries/delis. Perhaps, I need to start going further out to other groceries. Frustrating.

This Safeway operates differently. Even before the employment shortages this place has always ever had 1 or 2 cashiers open. Even with a line of people at each register. Clearly they dont care about the customer experience. Its a grocery store, so we have to go. But there is a Luckys down the street and plenty of other options nearby to get better, faster service.

Staff harasses me for having a backpack full of reusable bags and then follows me around while Im shopping. they should assume good intent – Im not trying to steal groceries just trying to have a way to carry them home. doesnt make for a comfortable shopping experience. this is why I always go to another grocery store. at least they have a nice bike rack outside.

The produce and service is damn bear perfect. I have never had trouble finding good deals or parking for that matter. The lines do tend to get a bit long but thats no big deal. Their selection is enormous, very clean and taken care of. Parking is enough to cater to the amount of people who go shopping here. Using the app for extra savings is a bonus too! Cant beat it

My first visit to this location was quite positive. I was able to get everything that I wanted. They were out of frozen shrimp but the nice employee went to the storage room to get me some more. There are self check out registers which I like. The down side coming to this store is the parking area tends to be crowded especially during peak times.

She yelled at me and called me rude for raising my voice so she could hear me over my mask and then she turns around and starts (very obviously) badmouthing me to her coworker. When I tried to call later to get her name to report her to corporate, no one ever answers. So done with this location, its one bad experience after the other.

Every time I shop here I always kick myself because it doesnt matter if it is 3:00pm or 11:30 at NIGHT there is always a line 4 customers deep. They never staff enough checkers. This fact might not be as frustrating if the few they staffed worked quickly, but they dont. There is only one lady that has a sense of urgency about her, the rest move like turtles, even though ALL the customers are complaining about how long it is taking the entire time they are standing in line. I rarely give bad reviews, but, I hate this store.

Management at the Hayward foothill location and Castro valley on redwood road are awful lazy and so rude I would feel awful if I had to work for them, ive seen them be so rude to the workers and customers

This Safeway isnt nearly as crowded as another nearby in Castro valley. The lines arent that bad and the parking lot isnt full most of the time. It is not the most updated or well-organized Safeway Ive been to, but the staff is always super friendly and I usually have a chuckle in the check out line. The convenience is me for me here.

This is a great Safeway, nicely organized and friendly staff, the parking can get crowded at times.The cashier overcharged my mom who is a senior, 10$ dollars for 1 orange and 1 grapefruit, too bad the cashier didnt realize that a dragon fruit sticker fell off onto the orange and grapefruit.I wonder why she charged her the dragon fruit price for both the orange and grapefruit. If she is is smart enough to get hired as cashier she should know the correct price for items and if an orange is a grapefruit or dragonfruit.My mom didnt even want to go return it but I made her and she got her money back and they gave it to us for free because this whole incident is rediculas to me. Otherwise this safway deserves at least 4 and a half stars.

The employees at this particular Safeway on foothill in Hayward Ca..This people is this area is very disrespectful the customers that come into the store cut in front of others who have been standing in line for more that 25 mins or more.This is the only store in our area. I prefer not to come here. I rather catch the bus 2 hours from Hayward to a better area. Theirs two African American Women one walks away from the cashier when their are customers still in line..The deli older light skinned heavy set women is very rude,she lets customers cut in front of others who has been in line for awhile and they say she never says nothing.

This is one of the top-ranked Safeway stores in Hayward is a very well maintained and well kept store. its nice and its clean but what really gets me is the people who collect the carts on the parking lot just a WONDERFUL young man and he worked the 6pm shift, when you are done shopping he speaks to you he make sure that everything is well he takes your cart he tells you to have a good day hes so curious and friendly, you can appreciate spending your money there....I appreciate it...

I had a vaccine appointment. The Pharmacy was closed (shutters down) at 4PM whereas the timing was till 8PM. Later I learned that they just close the shutters during their 45 min breaks without letting customers know about the return time. Finally after waiting 45 min the pharmacist arrived and told me that they booked my child appointment by mistake and they are not administering the child vaccine. The call to the manager and district superintendent (Catherine) did not help. No apologies by staff whatsoever.

I went to the deli in the store. The roll I ordered (Dutch Crunch) was only half-baked, so it looked awful. Also when I arrived there was one person working the counter with 3 more people in the back doing who knows what! This is on a weekday afternoon during the lunch hours. Typical for this retailer. They have stopped carrying most non-Safeway brands so you have to be diligent about knowing what prices are to be sure you dont overpay for generic items. Staff are hit-and-miss, some helpful while others are rude. Tend to have a lot of druggies and transients that gather in and around the location starting at dusk, so best to ship during the day. The store does nothing to discourage transients so keep your personal items (ex. wallet, purse, phone) hidden even in the store itself, dont put these in the cart......

My only complaints about this location are that they need way more lighting in the bakery sextion of the store, they dont carry a few of them items that Safeway is offering for free with the Monopoly game, and they only have two cashiers open. A nice clean store. This store seems smaller and the aisles are narrower. During rush hour the check stand area is a mad house. Theres also a self check out area. Employees are helpful. Good neighborhood.

Staff is great as always just disappointing all the homeless people and druggies ripping the store off. It is becoming a problem where my wife and many of our friends do not feel safe shopping there anymore. I dont think I have ever been down there that I havent seen them ripping off but never see security never seems to care. !!!Edit!!!---- In the quest for security safeway has personnel carrying bear spray. Bear spray is not legal for intentional use on people or self defense. Besides being a pesticide it has a wide spray meaning likely innocent bystanders including the person spraying. Also not as strong as typical pepper spray so not the best for self defense anyways. Safeway you really need to monitor your staff and due your diligence with whom work in your stores especially regarding others safety.Best grocery store in the immediate area, but a long way to go to be on par with Castro Valley Safeway.Probably worth the extra 5 min each way. Usually produce is good but it seems to be getting worst the last few visits.

Outward appearance presents a lovely store but unfortunately management of expiration dates is non existent. They must just stock new items in front of the old ones as over the years of shopping there I have thrown away hundreds of dollars worth of groceries before I started checking dates on everything. For example I purchased a jar of Open Nature Peanut Butter and when opening it found it so dried out I couldnt stir it so I looked for the date and it had expired 7 months earlier so it had to have been in the shelf for over a year with no one checking dates. The worst department is the lunch meat area. I have never bought any that I didnt find at least one or two packages past the expiration and one day I took 7 packages of the brand I buy up to the checkstand as they were all over a month past expiration. The most costly was when I started cooking classes and bought one of just about every spice known to man to fill my cupboard. 2 months later I started to open one and noticed it had a date and it was over a year past expiration. I took all 12 little bottles out and everyone was expired with the oldest having expired in 2014, almost 2 years past. Knowing they have such poor product management I have stopped buying from the deli counter and never shop with out my reading glasses to check dates. That adds a lot of extra time to my shopping days. I also eat a lot of ice cream and last week when going to the ice cream isle I found a very large cart that hadnt been put away just sitting outside the cases so I felt one of the half gallons and it was completely melted and no employees in sight so I told the checker and he called a kid over and told him to go put the cart back in the freezer. My guess is not too long after that someone probably took that same cart and stocked all the refrozen ice cream which would explain why I sometimes get containers that instead of creamy ice cream I find it full of ice crystals and have to toss it. There is no department that I shop in that I havent found expired items so they obviously dont teach any of the stockers that when stocking you pull the old items to the front and put the new items behind and in the process you check dates on the older items and remove any that are expired. So lovely store but to avoid any bouts of food poisoning check dates on everything!!

How is this store location different?Its different when it comes to itsgourmet-Deli section. The only con is with the aisle spacing that is just fitted enough only for your shopping cart to maneuver around store and you constantly have to excuse yourself throughout shopping because in order to stroll for items you have to walk right in front of a persons view while theyre looking at items on a shelf.Overall, Great deli selection but bad store design that was poorly planned for shoppers through its inefficient store layout and nonspacious floor plan.

Everything on the shelves is expired, sometimes by several months. In fact at Easter they had eggs from the previous year out with a 25% off sticker on them. Not kidding. Theyre always out of stock of distilled water, they dont have a gluten free section. I live on the same block so I kept going out of convenience since I pass it daily, but today after a year without incident they told me to leave because I had a tiny dog with me. I got my antibiotics meds sent here, went the first time there was a long line and it was during my lunch hour so after 20 minutes of being in line and no one moving i left. Sometimes you just need an avocado or a few more cases of La Croix. When you do, this is the spot. Otherwise, its just a Safeway. Find a real grocery store if you want anything of quality.

There is, Never anyone working after 4pm the lines are around the corner. There is only one consistent person who helps no matter what and thats Keisha, she be at the foothill location and the Jackson store location. Other then her yall need to get some new scheduling managers or something. Cause Ive already been putting her name out to a few of the Coorprate offices Ive managed and I know its just a matter of time before that lady leaves all that stress and No appreciate by staff. You can appreciate someone if your making them work without proper staffing and or safety!! NO WAY!! Maybe yall should just close down a few stores and just manage whats left cause at this point Safeway couldnt even hold a candle to Luckys PERIOD!!! HOWEVER SAFEWAY HAS ALWAYS HAD PRIME LOCATION.

Pls Give this attn to Tina Wong manager of safeway this is not the way to treat customer you should talk to her she very rude she is not supposed to be there very an educated person !!! The manager there is rude, sarcastic, no help, and at self check out he even got a bit loud with me. Like he was so disgusted! If that is the way he feels he should not be in the front as a manager.

It is a bit smaller than most other Safeways. Although, this safeway offers the bag your own seeds, rice, and other grains with over 100 options, according to the sign. A new feature I would like to see expanded in more Safeways

Ive been avoiding Safeway altogether since it became clear they dont care about customer service. Never more than a couple registers manned, which u have to use if youre buying alcohol, and I always check out of Trader Joes much faster, even when they are packed, which they often are. Safeway is poorly managed and not any cheaper.
