This Safeway is getting safer these days, if they only would hire few more tough security guards the better for us paying customers.The aisles are cleaner, better stocked. I also like the security gate than you scan with a paid receipt to exit, lot less stealing. Good job Safeway.

Thank goodness for this Safeway. A true haven in the middle of the cutest area of downtown SF. Excellent organic options, expansive fruit and veg, spacious aisles, well stocked with variety, lots of fresh meat, and a whole Starbucks. The only downsides are the small parking lot (but Im grateful for the parking at all!) and you will have to swap carts from the internal to the outside carts if you need to push to your car.

They did my baby shower cake I ordered tres leches . When I pick it up I ask 3 times are you sure the strawberry are in the middle they informed me yes. Im at my baby shower cutting the cake nothing inside . Cmon management if you guys dont know tres leches comes with a fruit dont offer it simple. I was so disappointed 😞. I will not be returning . And the only reason I got it here Was because I used to always get my cakes here since I was 5 and always had great service they didnt lie if they forgot something they would fix it right there. Im now 35 . But even ordering the cake you never find anyone there you have to hunt down a employee like your management just to get help =( . I should of known then the service is completely different and lazy . It was not the same even the name on my baby shower cake look like it was rushed . The cake was alright but without the fruit tres leches does not taste the same . Even ordering it they told me I didnt have to request strawberries because it came with it . It looks like a kid wrote on this cake it looks nice but get it together . If you dont like your job please quit and give it to someone who will enjoy there job .

I can’t stress enough how much I dislike this store. I dread every time I have to come here. It’s never an easy experience and it’s never pleasant. Just look at the filthiness of the parking lot and the store entrance here. Just trying to enter the store is sometimes a challenge as it’s small, crowded and dirty. Inside the store is outdated and depressing looking compared to other Safeway’s in California. Then there is the constant long slow frustrating lines at check out. The staff appears overworked and exhausted. The self-checkout barely has staffing on top of half of the self-checkout stands in the store being closed. Yesterday I stood waiting for help because the machine decided I couldn’t pay for whatever reason. So I sat there and waited as the single staff person ran from customer to customer overwhelmed by the workload. For years I’ve tried to like this place and hope for it to get better and for years this place has been an eyesore for the neighborhood. There appears no fixing this mess. There is no wonder people in the area are hoping for another grocer to move into the area.Photos added…this place keeps getting wilder. Don’t waste your time pressing the “Need help” button, because no one is coming to help you.

The vibes are abhorrent, they have militarized security guards and you cant take a shopping cart to the parking lot. All of the toiletries are locked up. Its a pretty miserable grocery shopping experience but as a utility, it gets the job done. Shopping at whole foods across the street is a much more enjoyable experience but you pay a premium for it.

I’ve had great experiences at the Safeway, but the only reason why I’m leaving this review you are closest to my clients house during my work week and I come in on a regular basis to buy something to eat eat and grab a coffee before work the last two times that I have gone The Starbucks barista has refused to scan my Starbucks app so I can get my points. He has given me a difficult time about my drink orders. that I have ordered in the past at that location and yesterday when I went, he refused to scan my app again in front of my client and I was buying my client some coffee on top of that. They completely messed up my Starbucks Frappuccino it was extremely watery and literally melted two blocks down the street. It was very runny and just tasted disgusting and I really feel like this was done to me on purpose. I’m very unhappy about my experience at this Starbucks especially when it says it’s LGBTQ friendly but the LGBTQ barista is not friendly to a fellow LGBTQ female/ally

I’ve had many issues with incorrect substitutions, customer service issues originating at the store, and now most recently bread that molded while stored in the refrigerator just four days after receiving it. I was their first White Glove customer on Labor Day 2023 and they messed that up so badly to one point where the store manager offered me a refund for my order and a subsequent assistant manager told me that the manager was lying to me that I ended up having to call the district manager, who had to go over and read them tge riot act in person. Unfortunately for me, they’re the only grocery delivery in town as they lobbied the city of San Francisco to keep Walmart out. I’ve mobility issues, and rely on proper grocery delivery. It doesn’t help with a store like Safeway especially when the non-items are literally as much as three times the price of Walmart. I’m sure that people who are on a fixed income don’t appreciate this.

Love this particular Safeway. Its not the one closest to my home but its worth going there every once in a while, even if I have to use the ParaTransit van. Much larger store with lots of variety. Deli, hot food section, bakery, pharmacy.

Safeway is a decent grocery store. It’s big box so they have a variety of different foods and their staff is really friendly. I do like their deli. Their vegetables are good and always look fresh. It’s not my favorite place to shop because it’s so big. The prices seem to be a little higher that some big grocery stores and equal to say Whole Foods in some areas.

Seems about 30% of items are locked up.They added quite a few more self check outs but seems theres more security then staff. Also theres a huge corrals to enter.Really interesting so much to discourage shoplifting but is it working or just making shopping here unpleasant.

This is a Good Safeway. The security is tight here but they dont profile you or follow you around the store. There is a decent selection of products its clean. The staff is friendly there is a Starbucks inside the store.The Prices are HIGH..but arent they everywhere now? The bakery is my favorite part of this particular Safeway they have a big selection of sweets pastries and cakes. make sure you always check the dates tho..

I used to attend this Safeway everyday for 27 years until last year when a security guard racially profiled me. He had been following me around the store and accused me of stealing items in the store because I resemble some man who is banned from Safeway. The security guard frequently harassed me whenever I visited.A month later, December 2022, he had asked me to leave the store because he claimed I am the man the photo who was banned from Safeway. I spoke to a store manager who allowed me to continue shopping at Safeway because she claimed her security were good at their job so she would give me another chance. However, I have never returned to this store because the staff who are supposed to protect us did not make me feel safe.The security guard who harassed me wears a cowboy hat and he continued to work there after this altercation.

Thieves! Be careful when you visit there. My car was broken in and my laptop, passport, and id cards were stolen bright day light at 3pm on Feb 17 2017. I talked with manager and he said I was my fault leaving things behind. They dont even bother to look for CCTV records for me. I saw security guys outside but they dont even bother securing the place.

My favorite Safeway!Unfortunately, Safeway has had to make numerous changes to deal with flash mob shoplifters as well as the genuinely hungry. Without going into all of the societal reasons for these problems, I understand Safeway must do something to deal not only with theft but the general unpleasantness for their customers these issues can cause. Safeway is not the only retailer who has had to institute practices that, at times, are frustrating and feel inconvenient. Something as simple as a Cadbury Chocolat bar will often be behind a locked case. Usually, the staff answers the ask for assistance, but Safeway is quite often very busy. Its inconvenient but not a serious Is annoyance. However, a week or so ago I had a frightening, very unpleasant experience. I love the fact that the Market St store is open 24 hours. I live in Northbeach, and usually I will go to Marina Safeway. It was a weeknight, and unfortunately, I didnt get all my errands finished in time to make to the Marina location before closing so....I go to the Market location because I really needed to get some basics. I pull into the parking lot and I noticed it wasnt as many vehicles parked near the intrance as usual. San Francisco can be like a little sleepy town on some weeknights. It could not have been any later than midnight so what the heck, right? I park my little car right at the entrance in the one space thats not a handicap,. I get out of my car and head for the doors and Boom! YOU ARE TRESPASSING A PHOTOGRAPH OF YOU HAS BEEN TAKEN AND YOU WILL BE REPORTED TO THE AUTHORITIESGood grief, Im 66 years old, Ive lived in San Francisco for nearly 40 years and Ive never experienced anything that unsettling in all of my travels in the City or the wider Bay Area. I dont consider myself a scardy cat or a snow flake but to say I was caught off guard does no justice to the experience. Im glad my cardiovascular system is in decent working order. Needless to say I jumped back into my little car a vacated the parking lot without hesitation.I realize this is a very long share but that experience was awful and felt extreme. Im sure it was a it was extremely loud and Is menacing.

Safeway did a great job adapting this store to the post-apocalyptic SF world that we live in. Shoplifting and other shenanigans are curtailed by a sizable security staff, proof-of-payment exit barriers, and valuable items held under lock-and-key.The staff really sets this Safeway apart from the other locations in the city. Somehow, Safeway has assembled a solid team of employees here — perhaps because it is one of their flagship locations.Shoutouts to Claude, Anthony, Ryan, and more! Worst Safeway store in my history. Like shopping in a war zone and being treated like a criminal. Police-state security measures, access gates/barriers, many items are locked up and require store employees to acess (translates onto long long waits in each department). Lots of empty shelves, low/no stock. Shopping carts cant leave the store ( prepare to lug heavy bags to your car).

I’ve shopped at Safeway for a very long time this has been my go to store before any other stores surrounding the Bay Area, with that being said I’ve noticed several different items in different Safeway stores expired./ outdated, I bought fruit the other day watermelon cubes and sure enough the the fruit was old and over ripened I couldn’t even eat it, and this isn’t the first time that the fruit that is cut and prepared is wilted, old and over ripe. The little cakes that I used to buy in the bakery section, the cake part is dry and crumbly the icing okay, alway s have to go to several different stores now because the shelves don’t get stocked for months, but the overall quality of store now is deplorable, I’m sorry even before the pandemic I noticed a shift of quality groceries meat reduced for half off because it’s getting ready to expire but the meat is gray and rancid it shouldn’t even be offered for sale, I don’t think some people truly understand the severity of food poisoning, kidneys can shut down amongst other thing and someone can die…get it together Safeway….

Pharmacy: woman with the red-dyed hair and glasses at the counter was one of the least helpful and harsh people I’ve ever dealt with. Didn’t make me feel better that she had her phone open to iMessage the entire time. I realize pharmacy service has gone downhill in the past few years, but that was a joke. She yelled for my name from a counter away. She couldn’t hear me (because she was so far away), I had to yell back. Terrible experience, especially if you’re unwell.The entrance to the store is like entering an unfriendly cannabis shop: security turnstiles and security guards.What a dump. Wish this were more like the new Safeways in Oakland. Parking hidden, better designed. Time to tear the store down and start again. Been going here for 24 years. I know prices have gone up tremendously with inflation, but Dear Lord, $84 used to get me four full bags of groceries at Safeway, and now $84 just fills up my regular backpack, with the rest into 1 plastic carry bag. That sucks.On a better note, I see more Security, and dont see so many thiefs just walking up to the meat section and blatently stuffing $200 worth of roasts and steaks into the bags they carry in very much anymore.

Sketchy grocery store. Very run down feeling and a lot of security. The bathroom looks like a horror movie. Have seen shoplifters almost every time I’ve gone. Waiting in line at self checkout two woman who I didn’t realize were employees cut in line. I told them there was a line. They must be the car delivery people because one of the scoffed, laughed and said “we don’t pay” rolled her eyes and continued to badmouth me as they walked away. Was there around 5pm today April 7th. Dark haired girl. Will never go back after this last time. Will tell people to avoid this location. It was clean and well stocked. Unfortunately there was blatant theft/walk outs, while I was there, that couldnt be stopped, and shouldnt be stopped for the staffs own safety. Staff was pleasant and attentive. Plenty of parking. Some non-threatning folks were outside the store asking for help. They were not aggressive or intimidating, just asking for a hand out. Unfortunately, we are all in need of assistance these days.I may not make this my regular store to visit, but I wont avoid it.

This Safeway feels much more relaxed than the Market St store. Of the chain this is my preferred. They have the basics and a little beyond. My only dig is the Starbucks inside the store. I just skip it and Im a Starbucks Stan! Gold card and all. If I had to say only one thing it would, ill prepared. They either dont understand me (while pretending they do) or they get my order completely wrong. It not a good experience. I just skip it.

A shoplift prone store, with a great staff that compensates for the extra security. There are usually 3 visible guards patrolling the store, plus some undercover people. Entertain yourself by figuring out who is undercover before they attack a thief. A highlight is a full body slam takedown of a shoplifter. A lot of high value stock is in locked cabinets, but the staff is quick to respond to call requests to open a cabinet to help you. They are always polite, helpful and friendly. The store has the broadest product selection in the neighborhood with fair prices especially on sale items. A large parking lot for those days you want stock up on bulky or heavy items.

This Safeway is much cleaner than the one i usually go to. For the most part they have stocked shelves.Early mornings are the best, weekday mornings if you could go. Good products - and I enjoy shopping there, especially now that they are seemingly reducing theyre overhead intercom announcements between employees. These are highly unnerving since between each announcement made, there is a high pitched sound. The music that plays in the background was always totally overshadowed with all the disturbing announcement activity. As said, its now getting better, and thank you for that.On July 15, 2023, I need to update and share my frustration regarding caged-in products, specifically Starbucks Verona Coffee. Are you going on a quick shopping spree? Forget about it! Sometimes, if youre lucky, youll find it standing on the shelves; however, most of the time its caged in. After patiently waiting, the clerk often comes and hands it to you directly for you to put it in your shopping cart because, as they say, its under a $20.00 value. Occasionally, youll encounter a clerk who refuses to hand it to you and insists that you pick it up at checkout. This eliminates the option for you to spontaneously decide where you want to check out, whether at the cash register or self-checkout. You have to decide right then and there!Not too long ago, I was desperately searching for Coffeemate single creamers, valued at $5.49. I spent about 10 minutes looking for them, in complete disbelief that they werent there. I went to other areas, assuming that the product might have been relocated. Finally, I discovered that the location had indeed changed, specifically right across from the shelving where they normally stood—caged in!!!

The cart handling employee told us (no name tag, slim, African American) that she would move all of the 24 large, one-gallon water bottles to the outside cart after we are done shopping, however when it came to it she just brought us the outside cart that she could have given us right away and expected for us to move the heavy load on our own. It was rude of her not to keep her word and she could have easily given us the outside cart in the beginning, it was available. You shouldn’t make your customers lives unnecessarily harder and don’t keep your word at the same time.

The addition of a one-way entry gate and other measures have improved the stores in-stock condition. There are still quite a few more empty shelves than in other Safeway locations, but for me, I can see a definite improvement compared to one year ago. I would still shop quickly to avoid leaving your car in the lot for too long, as there are quite a few creeps hanging around in the lot, likely prowling for easy targets for break-ins.

I went in to get a prescription filled for fluoride toothpaste. They wanted to call the dentist for how to use toothpaste? So sure, I will come back after you call the dentist. A week later, no call from the pharmacy, I call. Where is my toothpaste? We couldnt get a hold of the dentist. Honestly, I never had an issue calling my dentist. They most likely threw it in a drawer and forgot about it. Now I am going to pick it up, go to Walgreens like Ive always done, and get the prescription refilled. easy weasy. They are located in a tough area. You just need to get used to walk up to an aisle that is fully closed under security glass doors and press a button so someone can get the door opened and give you the item. I prefer that theyre managing to deal with issues remaining open. Otherwise they will be forced to close. Bathrooms had a lock so if you are a customer and plan on going to the restroom, ask the cashier for the code (even with the lock they had some damage in their facilities, but I appreciate theyre still managing to be there)

The store seems pretty clean and well-lit. All the tactically outfitted guards are a bit unnerving. Shoplifting is clearly an issue here. The pharmacy staff were pleasant and helpful. Im not sure Id regularly shop here.Edit: Today, a different pharmacy tech was rude and seemed bothered by my very presence. Ive never had this much difficulty with prescriptions. Usually well stocked, but the fresh produce isnt as high quality as the whole foods across the street (found an insect in my cauliflower, berries look like theyre a good 2-3 days older than the whole foods ones). The ACOs seem to have about a 60% uptime. Rampant shoplifting has led to installation of gates and other barriers inside the store. I get why they need them but its not super inviting. Usually at least 5-10 homeless folks are camped out along the perimeter of the store and management seems fine letting them stay there. Many toiletries and medicines (e.g., cough drops, razors) are kept locked in glass cases and you need to wait for a store associate to come by to open up the cases for you. Again I understand why and agree its probably necessary, but its still not a great experience.

Shopped here years ago when I lived and worked just a few blocks away. This store never has enough registers open. You wait in line for a long time. They try to get you to go to self checkout but you cant if you buy alcohol. They changed several of the isles to behind a door thats locked and you need to press a button to have someone come help you. Im okay with that if someone actually came when you needed assistance. Many times no one ever came and I just gave up. Im glad they have security here I have seen at least two fights break out in the store.

This store, if possible, has become worse. I made a visit during my vacation in November. Shelves were empty, aisles blocked. The checkout lanes always under staffed. They locked up the shopping carts, but that doesnt keep the homeless from filling a bag from things off the shelves and walking off. Now some additional prison bar like devices around self -checkout makes it a less pleasurable experience shopping here. The parking lot is filthy. As a paying customer I was scared when the wheels on the cart locked up the second I took it past the door. No signwork reminding people. Four security guards gathered by customer service laughed at me.Maybe its time to do what is done at wholesale clubs and have a reciept checked as someone exits the store, do that through the cattle chutes. Way to scare off paying customers.

Its Safeway. Convenient location with parking and easy access to public transportation. Relatively clean, decent produce, good produce selection, combined with 24-hr operation and Pharmacy makes this an easy choice for those late night grocery runs.Update: February 2022 the place seems a bit rougher around the corners. Aisles are not as clean and facilities feel a bit run down. There are more cops patrolling the aisles which is a good thing. Its an urban supermarket in a very urban setting.

This store is old and dated, was dirty and I couldnt shop in it. The produce refrigeration was old and the brown water was on the bottom of the organic romaine lettuce plastic bagging. This store was an interesting combination of feeling high end, and crowded and dirty. Finding a parking spot in the lot was a real trial. It is much too small for a shopping center of its size. I entered near the wine section and was instantly impressed at the nice lighting and feeling that it was a fancy store. It was a great contrast to my usual Safeway in the Mission. I used the restroom, and though it was clean enough to use, there was some gross trash that badly needed to be cleaned up. The staff was friendly and helpful when I needed a bag at the easy self check out. Though it was nice in many ways I wouldnt go back if I didnt have to due to parking, but its generally nice.

If you are looking for a store that you can just pop right in and get a few items and youre on a time crunch... Forget about it. Call your friends, cancel your night. You know what, cancel your whole year just to be safe because thats about how long you could end up wasting in this store. And this never changes. Ive not seen one ounce of progress in the past 10 years that Ive lived in this city. They have a million check stands, and about two cashiers at all times of the day (obviously a staffing issue). The line setups for Covid are so weird too. They use 1 employee just to conduct traffic at the express check out because its very unclear what isle you line up in for which check stand. If you just wrote numbers on the little dots on the floor of the isle to what check stand it belongs to (or god forbid color coordinate them) then you could have that bored-out-of-their-mind employee open up another check stand!!2) Turnover MUST be really high here! I get it grocery is a difficult industry to be in. I was the hiring manager for a local grocery chain in SF so I know what theyre up against. Open every day of the year, early early hours to super late hours, never a routine schedule or day, and to top it all off, Covid. But this location in particular needs a strong training program or better incentives than other locations. 90% of the team knows nothing about the store, grocery items, or where to find them. The checkers carry on conversations in front of you, not paying attention if you say anything, bag items incorrectly, move at a glacial pace, oh... And dont give two craps about any of it. They have no supervision or guidance, so why would they care about their performance? I wouldnt!They also have too many cases locked yet not enough staff members with keys to unlock them in a timely manner. The only people I recognize who are not subject to high turnover are the security guards at the entrances.3) Lets talk about the security guards. Theyll stand right inside when they should be paying attention to things going on outside. People using drugs or passed out right by the entrance - but as long as its not in the store they dont care. No, what they care about is humiliating a POC shop-lifter by making them stand right in front while they empty their pockets, file a report, and wait for police or whatever. They had one guy standing there for over an hour (I went in for 2 items so of course it took over an hour). News flash, people dont steal groceries because its fun. So degrading, so dehumanizing. Be respectful, take this person to the back and process them there. Havent they been through enough. This is something Safeway and its independent Security contract team need to fix NOW.This is not the end of my list. Maybe Ill do a part 2 next time. Its worth noting that originally I gave this location 2 stars but after everything I wrote and reliving every bad experience in this store I had to change it. Its hands down the worst Safeway I have ever been too. It gets one star though for convenience as its open later than most other grocery stores. I wish I lived closer to others. This is a multi-billion dollar corporation! Put some money into helping these stores.

Selection is good and the store is easy to navigate. I wish the quality of the produce was better, but Golden Natural Foods is right across Church, and if youre willing to pay, Whole Foods is right across Market. Prices are better here, but it can be hard finding someone to help you, and its best to avoid late at night as theres always a lot to keep the security guards busy.

I tried ordering grocery deliveries from them a few times. It worked well in the beginning, but then they started messing up- 3 out of my 4 last deliveries didnt arrive or partially arrived.Once they just canceled my order for no apparent reason, once the order just didnt arrive and no one even bothered to contact me about it and this time they forgot a big part of my order.Every time that happens, I have to wait on the line for 30 minutes for someone to pick up and then another 15-30 minutes until they actually take care of it.Im definitely done with Safeway and never ordering from them again.

This is a fairly large Safeway, that prior to COVID19 was open 24 hours. Its my goto grocery store because of location and prices. Id like to give it a 5 star rating but to no fault of their own, still their responsibility, sometimes just doesnt feel like a nice place to shop because of the loitering outside AND the unprofessional way a couple of the security guards, not all, conduct themselves.

The last few visits to Safeway have been mostly unremarkable. Except for one, teensy little, probably shouldnt mention it, but still a near obsessive pet peeve is slapping me violently in the face when I enter the main doors. Its becoming so egregious an affront to my ability to feel safe in the main store where I must retrieve my household provisions.In short, ever time I enter the store, the last month or more, Im shocked and appalled to see a fully body armored guard, holding what sure appears to be some sort of automatic or semi-automatic assault rifle. Just standing there, with a big rifle in his hands, not hanging around his torso or something, but literally, in his hand, drawn and ready.Am I the only one disturbed by this?

One of the biggest Safeway in the City. While the neighborhood can seem dangerous, especially at night, this Safeway offers some of the most complete selection in any kind of goods you can so desire, and the place is just so big. Yes, I know Costcos are even bigger, much bigger in fact, but being a Safeway, a regular supermarket, the store size and its selection of goods is just immense when compared to many of the other Safeways in the City.Due to perceived safety concerns, there are a lot of guards in all entrances, so shopping here is presumably pretty safe, and the last time I checked, they open until 2AM, and is easily accessible by public transit including MUNI Church Station and the F line--I find this one of the best Safeways to find something you want.However, this market is pretty busy, even with so many cashier check stands, as practically every time I visit, regardless of the day and and the time, there is always a line. On the plus side, customer service is easily accessible, although a short line is customarily expected.

I placed an order online for the first time 2 hours later, 45 minutes on hold and I am STILL waiting for either my order or an update from customer service. The store isn’t any different. Huge long lines seem to be the norm. Constantly flooded with homeless people and drug users getting high in the parking lot no matter what time of the day it is constantly harass people for money.

This grocery store is what purports to be. Generally reasonably clean and well-stocked with the things youd expect a large chain grocery store to have, but nothing special. If you wait till Sunday night to shop, good luck - the shelves get pretty bare in a post-apocalyptic way.

Jeaneah who was running the Self Checkout this afternoon/evening did a fantastic job. Not only was she managing all of the customers requests and needs (no easy feat during rush hour), when i left my cash (from Cash Back) she answered a call promptly and had already set my cash aside safely with a note. When I returned to pick up the cash she was again working hard and smartly managing the self check out. I cant say how much I appreciate Jeaneah!

What can I say its a Safeway. Its been remodeled several times over the years. My only complaint is its not really a complaint, however if youre buying prepared food there an intent to eat it in store the tables chairs and floors are filthy and full of well it didnt seem that sanitary. I have always loved Safeway. They are homegrown here in San Francisco.Thet have everything you could possibly want or need. I love their bakery (bought 1 giant chocolatey brownie), dairy section is nicely stocked (bought goats milk), the deli is divine (great roast beef), but most impressive is their self checkout.They have an employee at a high desk near the front of the self checkout. They will assistant you if you need them, but otherwise they allow you to just checkout.If you dont already shop at Safeway, then you are missing out. Shop Safeway and keep the cash in San Francisco.

Eh. Good times and bad times here. Security can be aweful and violent. Bathroom is unspeakably Dirty. Got accused if stealing here when I didnt. The security pushed me to the ground as tried to leave after refusing to let them search my bag. I told them to call the police they would not. After pushing me to the ground forcefully not letting me leave. They made me dump the contents of my backpack on the ground in front of everyone and search my person. Once they realized I hadnt stolen anything I asked for the phone number to corporate, they refused and told me I was banned from the store for life. Wow.

I have been going to this Safeway since I moved to SF and it has been great. The only disappointment is that the new owners got rid of a lot of the good workers at this location. Feel like a fake problem was created by the self checkout system, possibly someone watching from the cameras, but either way, even if Im wrong, I waited for about 5-7 min AFTER my order was complete (scanned EVERY item and began payment in CASH) to be assisted by an, I must admit, extremely friendly cashier to bypass the block on the processing of my payment. A horrible time ALMOST saved by friendly customer service, not quite though!😏

Love this Safeway been using it for years. Always have everything you need. Also has a meat market, a pharmacy, place for flowers, sale alcohol, and have a deil. Would definitely recommend. This Supermarket has two sides. During the day it is a flurry of activity with many choices in many categories with a friendly and courteous staff. However at night it becomes a more intense place try to shop at. Do to continued shop lifting the store has hired security staff that at times behave like thugs. I work a very strange set of hours and must shop early in the morning or else I would shop at other times.

I do like the fact that it is within a bus or trolley ride away from where I live. I like a lot of the sales people because they are very friendly and helpful. Major US city safety closes at 9pm. I know there’s crime problems but it’s absolutely ridiculous. Whole Food is open later, fyi, they close at 10pm. I hope they can figure something out and stay open til at least 11pm-12am. This is a neighborhood staple, people depend on it being open when work finishes at 11pm. Very disappointing.

They always allow non service dogs in the store and also allow them to sit inside the shopping carts, both the lower and upper place in the carts, people put food in theses shopping carts, its disgusting and unacceptable, plus when I bring this to their attention, even the Manager refuses to do anything about it. The outside of the store has homeless people milling around, who usually dont pose a threat. The inside can be very cluttered along the aisles with re-stocking boxes during the later hours. They stock almost everything that a flagship store should. Great prices. The should probably keep more check out stands open, than they do, as there are almost always LONG lines. They do, however, have self-run check out stands on the West end of the store which will usually get you the the process more quickly with less hassel.

A horrifying experience, from the insanity of the homeless and security to the lack of items restocked or just the overall uncleanliness of the place. I moved to SF 26 years ago. This has always been my grocery store. The past few years everything has changed there. Now I will go out of my way just to avoid that store. The Diamond Heights Safeway is much better. Market Safeway is only for emergencies when going anywhere else isn’t possible. It’s too bad. It used to be a good market.

The public bathroom is discusting. The steam table food is good but I have observed (homeless) people helping themselves to the food using their hands on more then 1 occasion. If you do purchase a quick bite there is no comfortable clean place to eat it. Your lucky if there is a seat in the dirty eat g area and more lucky if you have a table.

This store is in a bettertype area-right at the beginning of the Castro District. It has large salad and hot food bars. Its a little rougher than some Safeways but there are always guards working.The best thing about it, in this guides opinion, is location, location, location.If you live or are staying in the downtown area, all you need do is board any trolley headed west and youre there in 10 minutes or less.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. This place needs to be managed better. The stor was CRAZY busy and they ONLY HAD ONE register open. Yhe line almost wrapped around 2 isles yet one guy was ringing everyone up while there were 10+ employees all there and no one opened at least a 2nd register come on! Also the restroom was DIGUSTING. Like nasty dirty. I understand its the city and restrooms wont always be clean but it was so bad they must be not cleaned it in over a week. I almost threw up.
