This isnt a review so much about the store as it is about one of the employees. Jermain, who is often in the checkouts by the alcohol section, is just a delight. He is the friendliest guy and definitely the friendliest Safeway employee of any stores in the area. The company would be wise to have him go around to other stores and show how he interacts with customers.He is a great example and should be highlighted.

A member of my house got food poisoning from a sandwich from the sandwich station Monday 3/18/24.They arent clean and the veggies do not look fresh. The meat looks disgusting and not at the right temperature. Nothing is covered. Id highly recommend not getting food from here.

Horrible experience with food poisoning from this particular deli. I had to go to the emergency room because I had thrown up 10x throughout the night from their fried chicken ! Doctor told me it was listeria poisoning and I could not even hold water. Was super miserable and disappointed that someone would even let that happen as I have worked in delis myself. It doesnt matter if you are just a safeway deli, safeway deli pays more than the cashiers and at the end of the day its all about respect for humans following the fact that you do in FACT need a Food Handlers which should have taught you a thing or two. I have had my Food Handlers for 6 years and I wouldnt let that happen under my watch... I find it disrespectful beyond degree.

One of the worst safeways I have ever had near me. We moved down to Santa Rosa a few months ago and I keep trying this store since it was our go to in Seattle. 2 out of the past 5 trips I have found expired ground beef. Produce is brown. The bakery is an absolute joke. The donuts look like a 6 year old frosted them. Bagels are consistently empty. Other desserts are packaged broken. Other items are stocked in the wrong spots (powerade and soup on the last trip.) As someone that retired a few years ago from grocery, I do know what to look for. I have been a both a store manager and district manager for Walmart. Simply walking the store would identify so many issues. Really a disappointment.

Well if you download the Safeway app you can get better deals..--and if you dont use your app and you just put in your phone number you dont get the digital deals which can add up to a lot that you lose...Sometimes it gets really crowded and you have to wait in line for a while.Keeping that in mind if you plan your trip ahead of time you can go when its less higher volumes of people making their purchases,really wonderful staff, a Starbucks inside, and they do have restrooms.The staff in any department is quite helpful and very professional.They have all kinds of different things for any season. /stuff some of its pretty cool.If you always use your membership number and your digital card it rocks up to help save gas but you can spend 3 to $500 in one trip if you dont use your stuff so use your coupons and your digital coupons to save as much money as you possibly can.

Typical Safeway with most stuff you would expect. Only thing is it seems the staff are limited and overworked. There’s a Starbucks and US Bank inside. Make sure to use your Safeway Club rewards card for discounts.

Trying to find a happy face or a simple human being whom is proud to have a job is just not going to happen in this store.The produce is lacking and the broccoli limp. The employees are their own click and choose to chat amongst themselves rather than, oh dare say, strike up a chat with their REAL employer. THE CUSTOMER!!The Safeway of yesteryear, when Safeway was popular, is now some big run down high priced, small selection, except for their Select options. Which are front and center. Still,Merchandising is slack.

I went there a number of times over the years. Recently, I was checked out by a woman with dyed hair (I dont want to say her name, but I know it if needed) she has an overwhelming body odor and white balls in her hair (they may be spider eggs.) She has checked me out 3 times, her odor and appearance doesnt change. Is there some kind way to maybe ask her to take care of this?

I had the absolute best Ruben sandwich made for me by a young man named Tyler today. It was so good, even though it was a busy Friday, he made sure to get all my substitutions right. I called and could not reach anyone to try to discuss this with a manager. An employee, probably a manager by the way he was dressed, violated my civil rights at about 11:15 am on Tuesday, 9/26/23 (the day Im writing this).Safeway management has no right to discriminate against unhoused people, nor anyone else. The restroom either needs to be for everyone, or just for employees.People with big backpacks have the same basic needs as you do. Please end your hate campaign against unhoused (homeless) people and anyone else you dont like.Please keep your restrooms open to all. I request that you advise all employees that barring unhoused people from using public restrooms is not only evil, but illegal. Thank you for cooperating in the future.

There are 3 Safeway stores about a mile from me but this is the one that usually has all the things on my grocery list. Most of the time there is nobody to bag your items which is kind of a drag. The last 4 times Ive shopped there were no carts so now I find one in the parking lot before I go in the store. Its a busy store. There is a security guard on site which is a big plus, I feel safer here than at other stores.

Update Sept 2022:Still one of my favorite Safeway stores. Staff has been much more friendly. Only suggestion to management would be to train employees what is appropriate to discuss with customers (last visit the gentleman bagging was sharing a lot of personal life stories as he was bagging and it didnt seem like that should be a thing with EVERY customer)This is one of my favorite Safeway stores in the area. Good size store, nice selection, and clean everytime I am there. The one missing star is because the people at this safeway are not always as happy, upbeat and friendly as other Safeways in the area. Never had a horrible experience with staff but compared to other stores there is room for improvement.

Very rude employees that do nothing but complain. They hardly ever have anyone at customer service. The majority of their high-end wine has cork taint and they will not exchange them. Let alone all the homeless begging for food outside the doors.

I bought 6 bottles of spirits and did not receive the 10 % off. When I called to talk to customer service about it she was rude and told me she had to go. I went in the next day to show her my receipt she tried to tell me the 10 % off was included in the sales price, which it wasnt. She was rude again. I’m assuming because of the heavy transient population that hang out in the shopping center parking lot they have eyes on you at all times as if you’re going to steal something. Not my favorite. Bathroom is dirty and they sometimes stop to check your receipts, I’ve never experienced that at any other Safeway.

This location can get really busy, especially in the checkout lanes/self checkout, which is my preference, but at night it mellows out a lot and the self checkout lanes stay open late. They do close the further entrance door which can be annoying. Security seems like they dont have enough to do. Produce and meat sections are stocked and fresh however!

I really enjoy this Safeway mostly because Im a night owl and they are open till 23:00 hrs.There is hardly anybody there, and the employees have already started filling the shelves so the best stuff is there waiting for you.Check out is fast and the self checkout is usually open that late to.

This Safeway is full of some of the nicest employees Ive ever met in my life. When I go there early in the morning on the weekends I always find this very nice woman working and as always extremely helpful. Its also a very clean store. But most of all some of the deals they have are just bonkers. My total bill was $23 and I saved $15. Thats pretty good. If youre ever in the area I highly recommend stopping by your local Safeway.

Been a club member my whole life (from my parents) and the club prices sure do make me happy as a poor college student. I normally go grocery shopping at night and I still get really great customer service when I need it. I went once during the afternoon and it was a zoo, so I imagine the customer service goes down due to high volume, but when can you do. This is the only place I get groceries from and i love it.

John the Bakery manager was absolutely unnecessary rude. I called to order 24 individually packed cupcakes. Because of Covid they have to be individually packed for school. First the ladies from the bakery answer and said I had to give a 24hr notice and then they changed there mind, they would make them. But only white and brown frosting because rainbow color frosting was to hard for same day order. ( Note I was calling from the Marlow store they would make the cupcakes order, but they where out of packaging so the lady there suggested I could try another’s Safeway) I asked the lady if they shared inventory with the Marlow store. Because they would make them rainbow frosting I thought I could pick up the packaging and take it to the other store if they did. That’s when they passed me to John the Baker manager. He asked in a loud voice what the problem was, If you want the cupcakes individually backed you will be charged for individual cupcakes he said. I answered that it was fine, that was not a problem. I said but it’s to hard for your baker to make them rainbow frosting but the Safeway at Marlow will make them rainbow. Can I pick the packaging at your store and take the to the other store I will pay for the packaging. He was rude and raised his voice at me saying, no we don’t do that. I was simple asking a question he could have simply said no without being so loud. Who does he think he is yelling at people. What kind of customer service is that. Definitely almost ruined my day but ended up ordering at the Marlow bakery the lady was right there when I was on the phone with him she was so nice and apologized. I could not believe this is how they treat to paying customers.

This is not my regular Safeway and as a creature of habit I get a little nervous going into a new store that I do not know the layout of. Aside from the dairy- butter-cheese area being a little wonky, the store is very well laid out. I really appreciate all of the clear labels at both ends of the aisles and along the aisles showing where each type of product can be found. I was able to complete my shopping trip without any stress.

Is there a demographic that is mostly catered to, yes but that is because of proximity to Fountain Grove, but you get that wherever you go. The employees are mostly friendly and ready to help. Pretty much anything you need including beach supplies and a deli. There is an ATM and a bank inside and a credit union a few steps away. There is also a Safeway gas station in the same shopping center a little difficult to get to, but it is possible, you will get a discount on your gas if you use your Safeway Just 4 U points.

Ive been shopping at this Safeway location for over 25 years. It has gone so far downhill in recent few years. Very poor management and lots wrong with this particular store. Too much to list. However, one word of caution to shoppers....check the expiration dates on EVERYTHING. There are OFTEN outdated products on shelves. I returned some yogurt products when I saw they were very outdated after I got home. As an experiment, I marked the bottom of the packages before returning them. The following day they were back in the refrigerator case for sale! I could write a book on bad experiences here. Sadly this store is in great need of major improvements and in dire need of some good management. Its worth paying a bit more on some items and shopping at Big Johns, Olivers or just go to the Windsor Safeway.

Everyone Employee was Amazing. So helpful. I wish that I could remember the name of the young lady that helped me several times at the mendocino Safeway. She was so warm and pleasant, just a kind and helpful employee. The only description that I have is that she had a kind spirit and one arm, which isnt nor wasnt an issue at ALL! I just want her tp stand out and receive the glory and praise that she deserves. People often complain TOO MUCH, and Do Not give enough Accolades! Love this Safeway...They are Awesomeness❤

If you get the Safeway app and put it on your phone its amazing the variety of rewards that you can get versus clipping coupons Etc I wish I would have done that a long time ago as much money as I spend at Safeway although the produce department is very helpful I wish they would stay local and their products purchase because a lot of their fruit and vegetables that have come from out of country fail to thrive very long when you get home Safeway has always been good about if you return an item to give you are your money back but thats not the reason you want to go to a store has to have to return things its to be able to enjoy the food and Fresh Foods that you buy from it parking leaves a lot to be desired people are starting to utilize some of it as vehicle storage and if any Improvement that I could suggest be done it would be to have some of the extra clerks on staff make sure that parking lot has its shopping carts picked up and off the sidewalks and available back for the customers to use the parking lot at Safeway is set up perfectly for customers its just people are lazy and leave the carts all over the place so other than that Im grateful to have it as our local grocery store its a little further down the street from my house then the other two but I pretty much can get everything I want and their meat department although Im vegan is a very nicely set up and Quality Meat that I would recommend to anybody theyre very good about trying to obtain cuts of meat or specific Seafoods if they dont have in stock and that makes me super happy go Safeway!

Me and my girlfriend came into this Safeway to buy Eternal Water & cases of water. This the best Safeway in Santa Rosa. We went to go checkout our items. The cashier Ashley was very friendly and respectful to us. She even helped my girlfriend put money on her Netspend card when customer service was closed. Theres pretty much always some shady characters hanging out in front of this Safeway however Ive never really felt threatened. Of the six or so Safeway locations in Santa Rosa this is probably the busiest store. They have what I need and its convenient because they are on my way home from work but if you dont like waiting in long lines I would recommend one of the other Santa Rosa locations.

The store is really clean. It is the only place in town that has Starbucks. I like the buy one get one for free stuff they have and the gas rewards. I also like they have a great service desk there. If you have a problem with a price or some thing they always make it right. The only thing I dont like is the long lines they have. Some times I go to self check out if their is a long line.

She and her staff worked tirelessly with our food requests in addition to all the others from others feeding first responders and those displaced from their homes. She and her staff rock!! There are several different Safeway locations near me and this is my favorite. It’s clean, has a wide selection and the staff is nice. Be careful! Found needles in the parking lot on a couple occasions. I am confronted with aggressive loitering almost every visit. My kids dont like going here because of the bad vibes so we avoid it. We travel the extra mile to another grocery store or pay the extra buck to not shop here.

Most of the bad reviews are lies, seeing as this Safeway bends over backwards to make people happy. Every store has long lines if it is popular which this one definitely is. I have yet to see an employee here treat a customer un-courteously other than under extreme circumstances where the customer was being rude and impatient for no good reason. Also every day but Saturday they do a computer reset somewhere between 10:45 and 11:00 PM, so dont show up in that time frame if you dont want to wait a few minutes.

Safeway is an excellent shopping option option, although it CAN get a little crowded at lunch hour. But a Great Source for Local Shopping. I have begun to use Safeways (and other) Grocery Delivery Services.It takes a little settling-in to be able to recognize the Actual Sizes of items offered on the screen. Aisles keep getting more narrow and the there are always homeless outside begging.I wanted to give an update, after a few months of swearing off Safeway I tried again. Whoops. The service here. Is. Safeway at Mendocino, Santa Rosa, Calif is a full service store with a gas station just down the block. If you are in a hurry, come early or late. Otherwise it will take time. The meat and seafood counter is above average. Talking to the counter people ahead of events can net you exactly what you need. Not the best, but better than most supermarket. 3 1/2 stars.

I am never shopping Safeway again. In recent months it has become the most expensive food store in the area; an area that includes Whole Foods. The selection is dismal. But the final straw in my decision to never shop at Safeway again is the snotty service this evening.At 10:50pm I wanted to check out with my cart full of items. As I approached the only open check out, the woman shut off the light and walked away. I caught up to her and asked if I could check out. No, its time for 11:00pm cash out. You will have to wait until 11:15. I pointed out it was not yet 11:00. She shrugged and walked away again.I left my full cart where it was, left the store and Im never shopping at Safeway again.

The security handling of the current health crisis is atrocious! Several people I know have had there personal health space violated by so called security staff, and also inappropriately followed around the store, within 6ft, after being asked to move away. My Grandfather, my young female wife, Myself, who is a 36 year old man, I have also seen food delivery staff being delayed by security, causing possible health complications to elderly or infirm customers, the store not being staffed properly or food not being handled safely. Most other Safeway stores in the area are adapting quite well to the circumstances, there is no excuse for terrible service and management currently occurring

I feel like the layout of the store needs improvement. Specifically the meat and dairy sections. They have lunch meat and bacon, etc. in an aisle on one side of the store and on the complete other side of the store is an aisle with cheese, yogurt, sour cream, etc. Both aisles feel awkwardly detached from the packaged meat, fish, milk and cream that run across the back of the store that can easily be missed because they dont extend as far as the neighboring aisle. They DO have a small square display right next the milk with some fancy cheeses, which only serves to distract and confuse an individual as to where the actual cheese is located.Worst Safeway store layout in town.

Do not buy the cooked Sonoma county fresh crabs which are on sale today 12/4/16. We spent $40 for 2 crabs and they tasted like they were cooked in ammonia didnt even smell like a crab. Our disappointed dinner guests refused to eat it. The meat dept guy Vince was polite and assured us a full refund. He even offered to drive us new crabs, but I said we lived over 7 miles from the store. Merry Christmas and yes I will return.

A new policy by Safeway on Mendocino Avenue, of isolating certain products and controlling customer traffic in that area, severely detracts from what was formerly a positive experience.The Mendocino Avenue store has grouped all of its alcohol and personal care products like shampoos into a single area and arranged the shelves theyre stacked upon into a three-sided cage. The only way into and out of the area is between a pair of registers - and any items stocked within the area must be purchased by a customer at one of those two registers before the customer will be allowed to leave - even if a customer isnt done with their shopping and needs items from elsewhere in the store. Even if theres a long line of customers with items from within that area: they can only use one of those two registers.To me, it feels as if Safeway has decided to criminalize its customers simply for wanting certain items. What will it do next? Will it lock these items in cabinets? Shopping at this Safeway has become a very negative experience.

I like this particular Safeway store. It is usually open 24 hours but because of the Covid 19 Pandemic, they are currently only open until 10pm, which is fine. Im just letting you know. This store is very convenient when there isnt a worldwide virus going on but right now not a whole lot of anything is convenient or necessarily quick & easy for the customers or business owners. Especially with the social distancing & seriously shorter hours of operation. That is..... if the establishment is even open at all or if it is still in business. This Safeway has dismal WiFi. They know it. Won’t fix it. Safeway Corporate promotes using their app and then doesn’t provide the WiFi connectivity to access it at this store. Now, they offer Apple Pay but only at some registers. Which ones? No one knows. It’s hit or miss. I suggested today that if they were going to say they had it, but not at all registers they could at least put up a sign saying which ones. A Safeway employee in line behind me who had been chatting nonstop with the sales clerk who was checking me out interrupted to say, “then people would have to look up,” Sarcastically implying that her view of Safeway customers was that we were too stupid or lazy to do so. Honestly, that’s the impression I’ve always thought this Safeway employees had for their customers. Contemptuous. I shop here less and less because of it. This the whitest Safeway Ive ever been too. (Thats saying a lot, I also shop the 7th Ave Safeway in SF, a pretty wealthy neighborhood). Customers are mostly blue collar folks, exhausted and heading toward home base, or college students, drunk, sober or just carrying on. Maybe some security guards and employees that make no secret of watching your every move if youre not a certain type of..... well why bother beating around the bush: white. Then there are some quietly self-entitled people that roll down from the hills. Its amusing to watch, oh what postering. Its just a wonderful homogeny of mostly decent hard working people, tottering status when possible. Whenever I see someone who isnt white, I just want to high-five them and buy them a drink. Though, Im getting a bit tired of being stopped outside the door or have someone chase after me as Im loading stuff into my car just to show my receipt. They watch me purchase over a hundred dollars of food every week but I think this is there way of saying Youre not welcome. Ive checked around, Im not the only one they do this to, but the only white people theyll stop are either the drunk, or desperate homeless people that drift in from time to time.

Been going there since 1956, parents lived Saratoga and would like us into station wagon and drive to valley Fair San Jose store. Cool drive past Winchester mystery house! With that said, I used to live the turkey deals, man, too bad they are so legalistic about qualifying. I dug out a 24# bird and cashier says it doesnt qualify, only up to 22#s??!! Then the automatic self check machine was so cantankerous she let it go. Then I paid $100 plus to get a free bird week before but it took an act of God and kind manager to let it slide because their app wont download. Here at this Safeway, Ive watched thief walk out with a cart of groceries and in formed clerks. Nothing done about it. I even told the security guard as he did nothing but play on his phone. . The employees are not enforcing social distancing.My grandson has seen this (hes 5) and asked why the person didnt get in trouble.This is not the way to teach young adults in training to behave on either side.VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH SAFEWAY!(I did explain to grandson that the thief, security guard and employees are in the wrong)

The store itself is Safeway, nothing fancy but nothing horrible. My experience is based on an encounter with the check-stand worker. She was very loud and rude. First she came off in a joking manner saying my husband was loading the groceries too slow for her but she took it too far when she was complaining about the bagger bagging too slow. She made the comment of “you’re killing me smalls” and then proceeded to tell my husband that the bagger is deaf and she makes fun of him all the time. As we were leaving my husband said thank you to the bagger and he said thank you back in ASL. It’s just plain rude in my opinion to make fun of someone based on their disability and I will no longer go to this Safeway!

I typically like Safeways ..but this store in particular always has the worst checkout service. I put all my veggies in one bag to reduce the number of plastic bags go in the landfill. The checker took them all out and then proceeded to throw each vegetable down to the end of the check lane to roll around in whatever filth and meat juice is left over from the previous customer. Large store. Like all the others the essentials are at the each side and split in the middle making you pass by 70% of the junk you dont want or need. Its called merchandising. Fruit and veggies are often out of code, theres a seperate check out for hygiene, baby, alcohol items so you have to check out in two places or take your full cart to a tiny check out. Horrible experience. I went to local village for some pancakes where I saw jack and Jimmy Kimmel. This one guy was really examining the door and placed a sign saying “PrimirGame’s house...” at that point i was sure that this place was filled with alcoholics and i had to get out. OK as a grocery store, but dont expect cell coverage here (ATT or Verizon). So that text asking you to grab some strawberries while you are there will arrive just after you check out and are roll the cart out the door every time. They have wifi, but it rarely seems to work. It use to be a Safeway that closed at 12:00 midnight, seems they change the schedule, and now they only open till 10:00pm :(This Safeway is the cloest supermarket around JC, It only take 10-15 min walk from Elliott Ave.This Safeway have enought supplies for cooking. I have been in this safeway several times and each time it was a bad experience. Long lines, crowded, and they are constantly playing announcements and advertising. Very uncomfortable. My favorite is Guerneville shop there for over 30 years I love their hot soup if you can find it some of these kids need to know certain hours people want hot soup when they come in Sebastopol Safeway had no soup at all a shame I dont go there anymore

Lines were long. Self service check out was locking up. Have to use club card for discounts which is a hassle and slows checkout and one of the main reasons to avoid Safeway.

Ive been shopping this particular Safeway for over 15 years. I know a lot of the faces of those who work there. And while they may not know my name, they at least now my face. Theyve bent over backwards to help me out when a problem or an issue arises. There is one Safeway a little closer, but Id rather stay with the one that will a bit more to get my businesses lk

I am disgusted with this Safeway and will now shop elsewhere. The security guard found a mans shirt offensive because it was protesting Westboro Baptist. Safeway endorses hate speech. They are fine with funerals of dead soldiers being protested but no one better protest the protesters! Hatemongers is what Safeway is. I also hate that their parking lot is always crowded, lines are long and workers are more interested in each other than the customers. No more Safeway for me!

The homeless hang out in front of the store, and use the restrooms, which are disgusting.There are never enough checkers, and so there is ALWAYS a line to checkout. Id rather drive further away and go to Pacific Market or the Safeway on 4th.

This is the grocery store close to my home. Its a 30 mile round trip to store. They usually have everything I need but they are expensive. So when I can I supplement my shopping at some discount stores like Cosco and Grocery Outlet.
