The Safeway in the UV (University Village) at the corner of Howe Ave and Fair Oaks Blvd is one of the older Safeway supermarkets. The store layout is not as good as the newer ones they opened in recent years. The parking lot is also too busy in the evening when all the restaurants in the same shopping center are open for business. I have not been able to find a parking space many times in the evening! The best time to shop in this Safeway is earlier in the morning before 11:30 am or after 8 pm.

The donuts are made fresh daily and when I soaked my jaws around them, my tastebuds melted. Most importantly, the price of a donuts is less than $2. Great deal.

This Safeway Honestly has some of the worst customer service of any grocery store I have been to. Ive had better customer service at the dollar tree. Went in today, walked up to the self checkout, with hands full. As I go to put my stuff down, the employee working that area walks right in front of me, cutting me off, just looks at me and starts scanning her items. I guess customer service is an optional skill when safeway hires their employees for customer service.

I can not even give this store one star. Only gave one so I could post.The service is HORRIBLE. The cashier didn’t even speak and looked like she definitely did NOT want to be there. The bagging clerk had absolutely NO idea how to bag groceries. Was trying to put fresh bananas at the very bottom of the bag with other fresh produce and then place heavy cans milk and yogert on top. Then was very annoyed when I said please don’t put the heavy stuff on top.Also they had A LOT of expired produce and could not find an employee anywhere to point that out.Definitely will be finding another store to spend my money in.Very sad.

Its clean, well organized and convenient location for us. Stormy is the best forever. Naiiyahh is an awesome cashier, usually takes care of all the self-serve kiosks in the front. Naiiyahh is always friendly, resourceful, quick, efficient and pleasant to deal with.I just want to thank these two store associates mentioned above, and thank the director of showing my husband and I how to navigate the Shop for U deals and digital coupons, it took us forever to get it, but were getting the hang of it now and we love it.Sincerely,B N Nguyen

Theres So Much To Say! I Had Originally Rated Safeway At 1 Star, Yet Remembering An Incident On Sat Heightened That Rating.However On A Few Accounts Going To Their Horrendous Del Has Been Bad More Times Than Not. On Thursday June 9Th I Went To The Deli Asked For Fried Wings, The Manager Stated There Were None Fried, Yet She Would Fry Some & Have Them Ready In Five Minutes.Ten Minutes Went By I Return To Safeways Deli, They Werent Ready, Okay I Just Assumed She Got Busy. On Monday Morning I Went Into Safe Way And Purchased Their Turkey Pot Pie For My Lunch.After Warming The Turkey Pot Pie I Had Anticipated Upon For Half Of The Day As It Sat In The Fridge Waiting My Moment To Devour It. This place is a pretty typical Safeway, but the store layout is not accessible. Their automatic sliding doors were out of order, so the entrance and exit were two separate very narrow doors that had to be opened manually. The isles were very narrow, and some of them had metal posts in the middle, which completely blocked wheelchair or mobility aid access.

Its not bad. Just a lot of homeless people in the area. Never saw them in the store before yesterday though.*I wasnt complaining or uncomfortable with the homeless people. It is what it is. Its been too long since I shopped at Safeway. The new location in the Crocker Plaza behind City College is a really great store. The produce was exceptionally fresh and diverse and their prices were good and reasonable.I appreciate the fact that theyre open until midnight and pretty close to home. I will certainly be shopping there more often.

Came here earlier today. Called for florist 4 times 3 times on radio once on megaphone. I had the pickup order lady call her, customer support call her, and self checkout call her. As i was waiting at the floral department she came out the back room and asked me if i need anything. I told her what i need and she told me she is going to lunch and walked off. - 1 hour lunch plus about 30-40 mins waiting for floral lady.

I managed to lose my keys in this store a couple days ago so I managed to sit in my car in front of this store overnight searching my entire car for my keys, and even checked with the manager working at that time before the store closed for the night, but my keys were still missing.Thankfully, when I went in the store the next morning a cashier had found my keys right by the register, hidden under the little tray that change is released into at the end of a transaction, so my keys were safely being held at customer service for me and I got them back when I had pretty much given up hope of finding them and had thought I was going to have to spend a couple hundred dollars getting a new key made. So getting my missing key back was a relief and definitely brightened my mood for the rest of the day.

Awesome but dont count on getting help in a timely matter when it comes to unlocking the safe sex box, I just waited a whole half hour + and just by chance someone helped me. Might want to plan an extra 30-40 mins extra if youre needing something like that.

Checker said not one word. No hello, thank you or goodbye. I interrupted his conversation with friends by walking up to his open checkout. His attitude explained why the other checker had a couple people in line and he did not. To top it off, I had to remind him to push the button on register to access my Safeway card so I could get the sale prices on what I purchased. Still said not one word. Wont be going back to this Safeway. One person can make it or break it at a store for me.

The store is great, the associates are wonderful and informative. Unfortunately the last 3 visits 11:30 pm or later, we have watched people stealing carts of groceries and seen the frustration this does to the staff. It’s not Safeways fault, the police won’t do anything because prosecutors won’t prosecute because of our governor rewrote prop 47.

Great products as Safeway has. Love this place. Im very grateful for the hours of closing on Friday until 2am, because everything on Friday nights closes at 9pm. However, this means thats the case for everyone else in Sacramento, I would exercise caution when going late. The staff was kind and helpful.

My experience has always been unremarkable. They carry a large variety of foods to choose from. A deli and ready cooked foods, prepackage veggie packs, a bakery. I always find what I am looking for, They also have a pharmacy and a Quest lab, by appointment only. Safeway is my go to store because its convenient, only a block away.

They just need to put more than 1 person at customer service counter. They could also put a limit of transactions you could do at 1 time. I had to wait in line for over 20 minutes because an older lady was in front of me. She took her sweet time to get her card out of her wallet then her phone rang and she just forgot what she was doing. The cashier asked her to please put the phone away call them back. She proceeds to call them back while there is 12 people ate behind me waiting to get there money orders and other stuff. He finally got her to put the phone away. Then she took 15 minutes to get her money orders together then finally she was ready to pay for them. The cashier couldnt do nothing about it. He says that more people complain because it takes so long at the customer service line because people dont have consideration toward others. This pandemic is making it harder for everyone and having to spend more time in a store than you want to is frustrating. I appreciate all the essential workers for putting thier self at risk so we can still have a somewhat normal life. GOD BLESS MERRY CHRISTMAS

Open until 2am….cant beat that. Cameron (I hope that’s who it actually is - going by name on receipt) the cashier is very nice & efficient. If you are there at 1am-2am as you exit get ready for the few weirdos in the parking lot. Nobody goes for a bicycle ride in the grocery store parking lot at 2am…..unless…..you’re up to no good. You could be just drunk & having fun that’s easy to spot.

Its convenient but its always really crowded. The aisles are narrow and you constantly have to maneuver around other customers. Lines are almost always really long and not much space to stand in line. On a good note, theyre always well stocked and their produce is of high quality.

Place was clean and well kept. Associates helped me find what I needed as soon as I came in the place. Safeway is always a safe bet for grocery shopping. This particular store I’ve frequently visited since moving to the area in 2018. Rarely do they have long lines due to lack of cashiers, and the store is usually neatly stocked. I’ve only had one poor experience with an employee here when I asked if they had anymore of a sale item in stock and he threw a fit befitting off a 3yo, throwing things around and saying “LEMME CHECK IN BACK UGH” as he stormed off. I worked in retail for the first 6 years of my working life (1999 to 2005) and this was just a bad apple. Doesn’t detest from my 5 star review though since it was just a one time thing.

Typical Safeway some things overpriced however they also had products I havent seen other places like white chocolate raspberry hagen dahss bars mmmmm and also they are open until 2 am so that there makes it an extra star,Update, still the second best Safeway in town because of the 2am closure time, also best flowers probably in the city unless you go to a florist which is market price and expected to be. Harmless transients out front are sometimes good for a 🤭 chuckleUpdate: i love this Safeway. There is an employee here whos name I dont know but hes always there at night, has long hair white on the sides and glasses. Super helpful person. The best. Always there late at night and literally helps me find everything im looking for all the way to ots exact location, i wish he could get better recognition for always doing that. Anyway this Safeway is open until 2am and because its near a college hub has many unique sale things. Still my favorite Safeway because when you get off work at 12 they literally are a life saver that winco used to be in 2000 when the 24 hours sign wasnt an utter joke anyway i got off topic, update my review to five stars because of many reasons

I can’t say enough good things about this store and most of the employees that work there! I’ve been coming to this store for almost 10 years and I love the service from everyone. There have been extremely rude a$$ customers that come in and shout at the clerks from across the store demanding service, or to open extra checkout lanes. And I have no problem sticking up for the staff because they are unable. For the size of this store and the opening of all the new surrounding businesses. My one critic is that the upper management and/or owner need to lift the budget and allow more employees to work on high traffic times of the week.. But that’s all. I recommend to anyone that has anything rude to say, check your own attitude before judging service clerks.

Very, very small! Not only are the aisles very narrow, but the selection of healthy organic produce and other products is minimal. I cant complete my shopping without having to stop at another store. The clerks are always friendly but there are always a ton of people here. Lines are usually long and the lack of self checkout is debilitating to the stores appeal.

I choose this location because it has a little less riffraff. Parking can be a little crazy and confusing, as there are plenty of restaurants in the same complex. I dont understand the single entry door? Or why it is in such a weird location? The store is clean, but I had trouble finding some basic items like taco seasoning. The lines can get mighty long and I dont believe they have a quick checkout and definitely no self checkouts

I am biased as I worked here back in the day. This place always seems (and was) busy. The deals are good especially with a red card, they are a good union shop, they pay well and work with their employees school schedules. They also have done a pretty good job of stocking trendy foods. The one problem they have always had is slow lines. Long, slow lines. Always need one more checker.

I have always liked this location of Safeway because its an upscale neighborhood and they have a different variety of foods than they do and some of the urban areas which is not right but thats just the way things are... Nevertheless its very clean and the staff is very polite! The young man back in the deli area was slammed but yet he still kept a smile and a very nice attitude! Sometimes parking is a challenge because there are other restaurants in the complex but overall I do like this location. Safeway please put the same things in your Urban stores that you have in your upscale stores... People in the urban areas money spends just as well as the upscale if not more! Good place to shop in the early morning or late evening. During the day or heavy traffic times are just horrible getting in and out of this place. You have to be extra cautious during these busy times because people just go crazy in this parking lot. The store staff are friendly and dont mind telling you where to find product in there store. The service there is usually great and deserves 5 stars. The traffic there makes it a place to avoid during heavy traffic times.

Ive tried being patient with this Safeway but its just getting out of hand now. Everytime I come here, usually for just a few basic needs like bread, milk, sugar, theyre always out of one of the items. The milk fridge always stinks like old milk and every time I buy milk from them the milk goes bad before the sell by date! I have no issues with other perishable items in my fridge and when I buy from the Safeway on Arden there is also no issue with that milk. Seems like perishables, specifically milk, are not being stored appropriately.

To make it worse, they dont have self checkout.Basically, you should never expect to have a quick in and out shopping experience here. It will pretty much always take at least 15-20 minutes. This is an okay place to go if you are in the area. Although, with all the construction that is going on some people may find it easier to go to the Safeway on Arden and Watt. I was driving home from a vacation when I stopped at this safeway store to stock up on liquor as an Oregon resident we have state ran liquor stores witch makes the price for liquor much higher then in California so I bought 250 dollars worth of liquor that night as I was loading in to the car I dropped and broke a 30 dollar bottle of vodka I went back in to the store to see if I could get a broom to sweep up the glass they came out and cleaned up the glass even though I was more than happy to do it at that point I was ready to head on my way back to portland with 30 less dollars in my pocket when the employee told me to follow him back into the store and to my shock he told me to go grab a new bottle and they would replace it no problem if it was milk or something like that I would have expected them to comp me but not on liquor had this happened in Oregon it would have been my loss just want to say thank you again to the awesome staff for every thing they are super friendly and professional

I do know that I feel the difference because they used to be open until 2 a.m. and now they close at 1 a.m. Theres not a lot of stores in the area that are open late when you need that one something to finish rounding out your meal. I dont dislike this store .. I dislike the way the Deli Clerks make my sandwich. They throw everything together and are extra sloppy. Not all the clerks just some of them. Why would I want to go to a store where Im not sure of how Ill get my sandwich.I seen one of the Deli Clerks cut the chicken for a sandwich on the cutting board with no paper under it so I called her out on it and she looked at me like I was wrong.Messy Deli and even worse Deli Clerks .. dont believe me just ask them to make you a sandwich. The wifi is terrible everytime I come in here..mainly to use the just for u app....sometimes the item on sale isnt in the just for u app it says..item not foundI have spent 20-45 min trying to upload the app inside Safeway. This was the worst experience I ever encountered at a Safeway and the United States of America at this location not only do they have a discrimination towards the handicap but they have horrible customer service theyre rude playing out at the noxious I am handicapped I cannot walk so I utilize their Scooter service and I shopped spent over $300 and upon leaving the representative the checkout clerk told me that he needs to bring me a basket because I couldnt go outside with their scooter so I then asked what how you propose I get to my car cuz I cant walk he said thats not a concern of mind but you cant use our school outside so the other gentleman further embarrass me by said well let you use our scooter this one time but the next time we can allow you to use it so I ask the supervisor how in the world do you propose a handicapped person is able to shop at your store if they cannot walk she looked at me blank-faced and said she dont know but thats their policy and that she was sorry so ultimately nothing was done they are they upheld their employees in this ridiculous policy they were rude they embarrassed me and I will never ever go back to this location

Came here like once and this is probably one of the worst safeways Ive ever been to. The parking lot and area is sketchy even though just around the corner, is really safe. This is like a magnet for attracting weirdos here. The Safeway is really small for a Safeway and the aisle are all small with nowhere to move . The selection is not that great and the building is really old. Oh dont get me started on the slow moving lines! Its like a blind person is at the register. Combined with the expensive prices, it is way better to take the trip to Winco which is about 10-15 minutes away

They used to carry Lactose Free Bryers Icecream but they stopped. They don’t seem to care about 30% of the population that are totally intolerant and another 28% that are mildly intolerant. They do carry Lactaid Icecream but it is flavorless. My advice, Drop the Lactaid and carry Bryers! Put a sign on the refer door but the lactose free milk. It’s all about marketing and caring for your customers!

My spouse accidentally dropped a liter of coconut water on the beverage aisle. I reported the spill to the deli staff, five minutes later an employee showed up after another customer reported the spill. The employee show up without a mop or a caution sign and then left and returned with one caution pylon. I will never set foot in this store again. Poor safety practices, slow reaction to a bad spill. Had I walked away, after reporting the spill, it could have ended in litigation by an individual injured by incompetent safety practices. My spouse is a retired federal employee that worked with OHSA to resolve safety concern at his last posting. Remember “ SAFETY COUNTS” and lack of safety pays!
