Additional assistance is required. I waited in line for 20 minutes. Due to the presence of wine, I was unable to utilize the self-checkout. Upon arriving home and reviewing my receipt, I discovered that I had been charged for an item that I did not purchase. In the future, I will exercise greater vigilance in verifying my receipt prior to departing the store.

This store overcharged me for a clearly marked sale item this morning, then acted as is I was the problem when I brought it to their attention. After using self- checkout and checking my receipt, I waited at customer service for a long time while an employee used the intercom to call for someone to come help me. Finally I was directed back to self-checkout where I was rudely told that the item was not on sale but she was giving me the difference back because it is easier. Easier than what? Easier than looking into the problem and taking responsibility for their error? It turns out that they had mixed in non-sale items in the same produce pile with sale items, clearly meant to make people think it was all on sale. I was being blamed for not understanding that not all the items in the pile were on sale, only certain ones. Unbelievable! I am sure that they make a lot of extra money off of people who dont check their receipts. Please beware of this store trying to rip people off and then being rude when they are caught.

05.01.24 Thought Safeway in S Lake Tahoe would be more expensive but it wasnt if you use your Safeway Rewards Acct. With that the 12ct cans of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was $20.99, down the street at Grocery Outlet the same beer was $19.99, so pretty close in price.Although why did Safeway reduce their packaged O Organics Salads weight from 16oz to 11oz for the same price of $5.99? Grocery Outlet has the packaged Organic Mixed Salads at $4.99 for 16oz.So definitely shop around, theres Smart & Final, Ralphs, Grocery Outlet, Wholefoods all nearby, and crossing into Nevada in the opposite direction another secluded Safeway.Cashiers and employees are friendly and helpful.

A clean, well organized and well stocked Safeway. There is nothing you might need that they dont have, from organic chocolates to ethnic foods. The staff is particularly helpful. The lady that made us sandwiches insisted on cutting fresh cucumbers, though some were already pre cut. The gas station here is usually the cheapest we have seen in Tahoe.

The store is faced well, the associates we encountered were helpful and pleasant. I love the carved wood figures they have on the entrance support beams. A lot of carts were out-of-order and lined up along the front of the store. Im assuming the snow is the culprit as far as the carts are concerned, because theres a lot of weather damage in the entire area (Lake Tahoe) - so I dont blame the store for the weather. We had to go out and get a cart from the parking lot, because the functional ones were in-use already. I also would have loved to see a few more asiago bagels - the last two times we came in, they didnt have any, and one of the times was a Saturday morning.There can be a big difference from one Safeway to another as far as the quality of the store - and this is one of the nicer-looking ones.

Compared to the other grocery stores in Tahoe, Safeways prices are close to the highest. The pharmacy does not really care about customers. After calling them to confirm meds were ready to pick up I had to wait 20 minutes when I got there.To the Safeway response. I was at the pharmacy for a friend, nothing has changed from five years ago when I stopped going to Safeway in Tahoe because of the reasons stated above. The response is just lip service.

Very friendly staff, they are always working hard, it is a large store, managment is always available, curtacy clerks are very inviting and available for everything and anything, the departments all have great teamwork, they attend us with everything and always point us to the right direction. As a customer and as a local I am very happy to have safeway. We can shop in the morning in the afternnon and even at night! I deffinatly cannot say no to their mochas at starbucks. The app is very helpful. There is a huge snow storm right now and safeway is still available.

PROS: Excellent variety of quality products.CONS: Large parking lot was mostly full, because this store is about the only game in town. Not enough handicapped parking spots. Homeless beggar lady near the front door. No workers to ask for help in the aisles. Totally out of Michelob Ultra bottles on a Monday... would have been great after a shortened hike with my trainer. Gatorade varieties 32oz. bottles were shown as only $0.69 each (12 or more), but rang up at the higher regular price. Similar to Walmart at checkout, with few Cashiers working. Cashback option showed $60, and I didnt select other to get a higher amount. The same out-of-place homeless beggar lady near the front door on the way out--so I felt rotten about not offering cash yet again.

Second time in a row now that they have customer service closed, its 12:10pm now. They really need to fix their staffing issues. Now this same person, as in my previous review, name Kimberly is rude; she was rude to the guy in front of me, with an attitude. She came out of safe room, sounding upset and say you cant u see the damn sign, were closed. She obviously doesnt care. Store itself I guess is okay, but they need to fix their staffing problem and other issues they may have. I dont think Management seems to care.

Got served chicken wings from a guy telling me he is sick, coughing into a mask as he is handling food and sees nothing wrong with this. Ended up giving the chicken wings to a different employee and he asked if I wanted him to replace the order, I said no because who knows if this guy was coughing all over the food while he was preparing it.I asked the lady in self checking for help because my just4u deal was not coming off after I ended my safeway card, she immediately said Im doing something wrong and when I explained that I only entered the number attached to my card she said I messed up. Come to find out it was a system error and it wasnt working for anyone but she didnt even try offering an apology for telling me im doing something wrong. Then she dropped my steaks on the ground and then quickly rebagged them saying it didnt break open. I pulled them out of the bag to see the plastic was broken open. Who wants to buy food thats been on the floor.Horrible customer service from these two people. Such a lack of heath and safety standards for handling food. One would hope this gets addressed and minimum standards enforced for the safety of all customers.

I go to this Safeway a lot. Its a good location with many food and recipe ingredients. I always tend to buy something that I havent tried yet every time I shop here. The sushi section is amazing. Its also fun to people watch here when the store is packed.

Very disappointing experiences. Was on vacation, went there twice, but both times, they made mistakes when checked out, they double charged the Smirnoff wine cooler, made mistakes on cheese, milk prices and vegetables. We had to go to customer service to get it corrected. Lucky that we checked the receipts, otherwise, they would have stolen around $25 from us. To everyone, check the receipts on your way out, they seemed to make mistakes very often. Dont know its human mistakes or purposely. No confidence for Safeway anymore. Sigh!

Always love to come and do all the grocery shopping from here. But the bakery here is getting worst day by day because of bakery manager don’t do her work properly and her friend strore manager is helping her all the time whenever she do anything wrong. Bakery employees are quitting their jobs day by day because of bakery manager’s behaviour with employees. So sad Our Safeway is not like that. I doordash, so I shop here 5 to 10 times a day. They have a Starbucks in the store, a flower department, a meat department, the deli makes great sandwiches. Produce is great, they carry exotic fruits. Self checkout is always fast. The only downfall is there is only one cashier late night and the line gets pretty long

I love Safeway and how convenient it is, our South Lake Tahoe Safeway employees go above and beyond to help the community. I especially love and appreciate drive up and go, I order from there weekly and everyone in there is always friendly and super helpful. Peter, is so polite and knowledgeable, Steven always makes sure things are right and handled correctly, bow is such a sweetheart and loves to help, Kaleb ensures you are happy with you’re items, and Niko always picks the best produce, I couldn’t rave enough about this group!

Average grocery store with all of the basics and some cool specialty items, but it was busy on a snowy Friday night and there were only two regular checkout lanes open in addition to the self-checkout area, so there were some long lines to checkout. The employee running the self checkout area was overwhelmed and got into a shouting match with a customer over who he directed to what station (it was a nonsense kind of argument that both adults in this situation shouldn’t have engaged in), but this made a bit of a hostile environment as everyone attempted to just continue with their checkout process. I’m from out of town, but this interaction would cause me to choose a different store in the future, if possible.

I was at this Safeway store on Johnson on Friday, 6/16/23 at 9:30am and was very disappointed with the Bakery Dept. They were out of bagels, donuts and French bread. This is unacceptable especially at the start of a weekend that generally brings hordes of people to the sierras. Sorry but this is poor planning and a bad reflection on the bakery’s management team and store manager. I quickly left and drove to Raley’s at the Y. They had an abundance of delicious baked goods and breads that were amazing! Bottom line …Safeway’s Bakery Dept this is a wake up call…if u don’t get it together ur competition is and will steal ur customer base!

Great selection and the store was clean. While on vacation I dont want to spend a lot of time cooking, but I dont mind oven ready. Safeway had all sorts of pre-prepped food in oven safe dishes (healthy veggie sides, seasoned pork chops/chicken) in addition to prepped salads, pastas and desserts.

Decent Safeway location, with well stocked aisles and generally enough staff. It gets super busy with tourists, as is to be expected in this area, but the store seems to handle it pretty well. Generally lines are kept short and customers move through quickly. The last time I was there the lines were extremely long, about halfway down the aisles, but the staff pulled through kept things moving.

Staff was rude and unhelpful.. They left us stranded - twice - in selfcheckout, and then said the price shown at checkout was correct, and then that it was the only kind of item they had. I retrieved the shelf label to show them and the employee left and a manager came in who did not care and refused to fix the problem and refused to apologize for finding their error and then just walked off and left us with no ability to check out. A few days ago I went to make a shipment through Western Union and the service was poor and impolite. In front of me was a white american guy who was treated with a huge smile but in my turn that smile turned into a rude face and arrogant attitude. I understand that many of you dont like people who are not your race or people who doesn’t speak your language like you want it but god we are in 2023 and you’re working in customer service in one of the most tourist places in the US. You need to talk about this situation and put the right person working in front or you’re gonna have more situations like that what doesn’t help at all to the reputation of your management. There are far better places to get your groceries in town. The checkout clerks are fantastic and probably the only reason why this gets two stars instead of one. Recently they changed all there deli food and jacked up the prices by almost double. Good luck trying to get a sandwich there as the Billy people there will simply look at you, not acknowledged will be right with you, and youll just wait hoping to get somebody to come over and make you a sandwich. This experience happens all too frequently and many others have noticed the same thing. I probably should voice the concern to the manager and have them coached the employees in the deli department. As far as buying the rest of your groceries there, dont expect any bargains other than the wine department. The two employees that work in the wine department are very friendly and helpful. But the rest of the groceries prices are higher then a nearby outlet and a warehouse style grocery store in town. Even their car wash is a joke. You cant pull up and use a credit card to get your car washed. Fortunately we are getting a new grocery store that is being built and everyone is excited to see how that turns out. For bargain prices there are the two other places in town I kind of mentioned, and for better quality food there is a new place putting Safeway hopefully out of business.

Great store. We bought blueberry, raspberry, chicken wings, and spinach salad. The berries/salad are very fresh / tasty. The wings are fried thoroughly without any raw chicken smell. I was here on vacation and needed to buy a few things for the weekend. The store itself was great, but the staff behind the register was very rude. The staff that rang me up was very kind to the person before me, but as soon as it was my turn, her attitude changed completely. She was curt and very rude. I didnt think much of it, but my friends were with me and even talked about her shift in character after we had left the store. We had a very short exchange and I had barely even said anything, but it made me feel like I was being descriminated against because of my ethnicity. The lady that had gone before me was obviously a local and she was also white, from their exchange it seemed like it they were familiar with eachother. Anyway, its a good place for food, but my experience was horrible. I wouldnt come back again.

I have a condo around the corner and was up for the first time since the Caldor fire this past week. The gentleman at the deli, Kevin or Keith I think is his name, was very helpful. I was shopping later in the evening and he was almost closed so told me to call ahead for a specific meat I needed cut and he would have it ready the next day for me. I was very appreciative of his helpfulness especially when the store was running on such short staff with people being gone for evacuations etc. Definitely a great experience!

First, this store is in beautiful condition, clean, easy to get in/out of and was decently stocked. We found what we needed with ease and its in a central location.What was disappointing was our interaction with the staff at the self-checkout. We bought 18 eggs among other groceries, and when we asked for a rubber band (to prevent the eggs from opening on the way home), the woman was quite rude and said she didnt have any and told us we should go buy some. The problem wasnt that she was out of them, but it was her poor attitude and flippant response. I think she came to her senses and went and grabbed some, but even then, she behaved in a way that she was irritated and annoyed.

The store is well organized, and I have been able to find everything I need. However, I am giving a 3 star review due to the self checkout experience. The machine popped up several errors due to weight and I had to get help each time. However, the person who was there to help wasnt paying any attention so I had to keep getting her attention. Even after the thing asked me to pay, it popped up another error because we started bagging things and wouldnt accept payment until I got help again. Most self checkout systems have matured well beyond this level, but apparently not Safeway.

Went to the meat department to buy steaks that were on sale there was only one package I brought it to the butcher or meat staff attention and he said yep just one package. There was a limit of two that I got to walk with just one. Wheres the customer service here? Also when my bill was complete I took it to customer service and got back $42 due to the miscalculations of the checkout process. My Checker was amazing she was the best part of the process.

HORRIBLE service. Was greeted after waiting at the deli rudely by a woman yelling out “next” when we were the only ones in there, I asked for one second for us to decide. The lady rudely just walked away, when we were ready to be helped she rudely ignored us and helped 3 other people who came long after us. Its a Safeway in Lake Tahoe, so its very crowded in the Summer and Winter months and the prices are much, much higher than they used to be. Prices were reasonable overall (less Tahoe tax than other stores).Self-checkout was not as intuitive as other stores Im used to. I appreciate that they dont use plastic bags. Bring your own bags or its $0.10 per paper bag used. Only real con is that if you dont have a Safeway customer card then you will pay more. (We dont have Safeway where I live, and sometimes there is a big price difference without using a Safeway card.)

Im a regular Safeway shopper. In my town there arent many markets because its so small. There is a Rayleys right around the corner from my house but I dont shop there. I get a lot more benefits and the prices are better at Safeway. If you have a Safeway card and use it, youll find out that you can save cash and rack up your reward credits that can be used for discounts at the gas pump or buy groceries. Where is management when you need them? Apparently, they are chopping it up in the breakroom ... the poor checker, who was apparently a new employee and had not yet completed training, had been left completely alone, without supervision. He was too new to authorize his own voids, called for help 3 separate times, and no one was coming to help. The 2 supervisors both came sauntering out of the breakroom, talking and laughing, he had to finally flag one down. She came over, authorized the void and disappeared again, never bothering to ask if he needed any help or anything. Then this poor guy had to stop and bag the groceries on his own. This Safeway has an easy parking lot to enter and leave. Produce is fresh and plentiful, and the meat department is full and features a meat counter. A bakery features fresh-made bread, pastries, doughnuts, pies and cakes, and the deli features lots of hot items as well as soups and fresh sushi. We even got flu shot while visiting the pharmacy. My friends and I took a wonderful poo in the toilets in the back. We had this really sketchy Mexican food restaurant earlier and when we went shop it just came right out! Thank GOD we where in the back by the milk. We ran to that bathroom so fast we could out run Usain Bolt! We where in there for like 30 mins, surprised we didnt get hemorrhoids. With our legs asleep, we got up and flushed those damned toilets. We had to turn around and watch our magnificent poo flush. But by our surprise, they did not go down. So today was the 1st day of CAs new required mask policy. We live in L.A. but have a second home here in South Lake Tahoe. We have been here about a month and stay for the entire summer. I went into the store and immediately saw a few barefaced shoppers, as well as a maskless employee in the flower department. I had a question about the orchid I was considering and asked her why the store wasnt requiring masks. She went into this convoluted dissertation, schooling me on how Safeway is an independent store, unlike Raleys who is a chain... so her store does not have to and will not mandate masks, as they dont have to comply with the states requirements. She also mentioned how theyve removed their self-distancing aides, as part of their new renovation and will not be putting them back in. Hmmm... well thats not how things were working in L A., where masks for several months have been required when inside of any business. So when I got to the cashier, I asked if Safeway was not part of Albertsons, a national chain and werent masks required? He said yes and yes. I then asked to speak to a manager. She said that the employee in flowers was supposed to be wearing a mask, and that a DM would be visiting the store tomorrow to speak with employees... but until then she could not require her employee, spinning yarns in the flower department, to wear a mask. Huh? Interestingly they have a sign at the front of the store which says HEROS WORK HERE. I normally agree that all grocery workers have been heros during this time, but obviously not that snotty flower department employee. And the rule that a manager cant tell their employees what they have to do... which is a statewide order... well, that rule just has to go.

Lines usually move quick in the store and there is a complete selection for all of your grocery needs with seasonal merchandise for ever holiday. Idno if its just this store itself, but my experience from working here made me feel like the whole company is absolutely terrible. the company does not care about its employees, or its customers; only profit. and the union has dwindled down to only collecting employees money. i was harrassed, but verbally and sexually, on many many occasions while working there from managers/co-workers. and many times i documented this, with eye witnesses. but the store manager (sam coolbaugh) could not care less. only until one of his employees gowes and physcially assaults a customer while they are on shift, will they then be terminated. not to mention when i began investigating into the rumors being spread around by an employee/manager (miguel calderson) thats when i was told by the store manager to stop looking into it. when i persisted, i was terminated. on top of the harrassment of employees and assaults on customers, the store was ran in a total filthy state. the produce department would wrap the hand cut produce on the meat department wrappers; which were only cleaned once a year when the managers were afraid of a suprise inspection. employees in the deli will actually HIDE from customers waiting in line for a sandwich or something out of the hot case. once i waited my entire lunch waiting for a deli worker to stop hiding and start helping customers. and i got in trouble for taking a long lunch. this is not a correct way to run any business

Would sell us food and alcohol, bottles of water. But will not refill our previously purchased water in a renewable easy from the machine outside. Requires us to go inside buy loads of plastic, but wont take care of other services like the Glacier machine.

Very clean but expensive. If your going to Lake Tahoe and staying at an air bnb. Buy your groceries before at a Walmart in Carson. We bought a bag of ice for almost 6 dollars 🥴

Chain store Safeway. This South Lake Tahoe location is really convient off Hwy 50 and opened 24 hrs a day. Service and selection is good. Starbucks inside for those of you who need a boost while your grocery shopping.

Ive never been a Safeway person. I do stop by occasionally but today changed it all. I came in to buy lunch but stopped to use the faculties first. There were 2 employees in there having a personal conversation. One left then the other used the facility. But as she was leaving she stepped up to the mirror said a few words then left, NEVER EVEN BOTHERED TO TURN ON THE WATER to wash her hands. (GROSS)!!.. Then as I came to to go to the deli to buy lunch, guess who was there behind the counter? The same NoHands Washing Employee. (GROSS)... so I decided to buy fruit. I did point her out and tell the on shift Manager. Hopefully they will do something about it.#notbuyingsafewaydelieveragain..
