Excellent dinner! The salads are delicious, lots of stuff, mix of texture and healthy nutrients for the most active lifestyle. As a vegan, the options are slim. The asparagus was tender and juicy. The Spring Salad was crunchy and refreshing. People loved the trout, the polenta was loose and devoured. I had the strawberry sherbet for dessert, sweet and full!

This restaurant is a real gem, constantly refreshing their menu to offer new culinary delights. The food is exceptional, clearly showcasing their passion and dedication to quality. Its the little things, like the double shucked peas, that really highlight their commitment to perfection. The Mt. Lassen trout was a standout for me—simply unforgettable. I was so impressed by their cuisine that I couldnt resist buying their cookbook.

We had a lovely meal here! Nice service, comfy seating, great food, wine, and cocktails. My favorite dishes were the bread, sunchokes, cauliflower, ribollita, and prawns. The cheesecake and chocolate mousse were both great desserts as well. (Sorry, my pictures are not great). Expensive (for two people - 2 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine, a lot of food, 2 desserts and 2 coffees it was about $350) but one of the best meals to be had in Los Angeles.

We loved every single dish we ordered; the house-made bread and butter, addictive marinated olives, heavenly dumplings, refreshing and complex tomato variety salad, inventive and well-balanced cocktails, chocolate halva, and the freshest, most divine fruit plate we’ve ever tried.The service was knowledgeable and friendly, and we had the best, most comfy seats in house.Will definitely be back when in town, and make sure to try out multiple sister restaurants.

We had an excellent meal at Rustic Canyon! Incredibly fresh, seasonal ingredients prepared beautifully. Our server was so charming as well. We ordered the rolls (a must), the nectarine, cucumber feta salad (amazing!), artichoke and gnocchi; the chef sent us the signature “beets and berries” to round out the meal perfectly. We finished the meal with the mind blowing honeycomb ice cream - if I were drinking that night, a Scotch would have complemented it beautifully (at our server’s suggestion!). Every dish was prepared with care and showcased the team’s talent. This will become a go-to for me, with excellent options for vegetarians and non vegetarians alike.

The best, and I mean some of the BEST food I’ve had in years! Fresh, creative and the flavors were AMAZING! We took the server’s advice and ordered multiple dishes to share. Family style added to the fun.We were a party of 4 with reservations before 6pm and RC quickly filled. I will say the noise level with all of the talking and music got a bit loud, esp for the 2 older individuals in our party. That’s the only reason for 4 stars for atmosphere.Service was top notch! And never had to ask for anything and we weren’t hovered over either. Perfect balance and excellent service!!!Will definitely be back!

Absolutely amazing food! In Santa Monica a few days and saw this place listed on several top 10 restaurants in the area. Those other reviews were spot on as our burrata and heirloom salad, poached trout, and duck breast were phenomenal! Highly recommend checking this place out! Amazing food and service in a Michelin restaurant without the Michelin ego. Casual and laid back with a incredible menu. Ive been here at least 6 times and its some of the best food in Los Angeles, hands down. The beets is incredible, as is the spaetzle. Steak, melon salad, zucchini dip, its all amazing.

Food was fresh and there were no misses. Would recommend if you want a solid meal. The restaurant does get a bit loud when fully packed. I would return again to try new dishes as the menu does change daily.The roasted Japanese yam was my personal favourite; you literally cant go wrong with roasted yam and the paired sauce was a perfect complement. The beet and berries salad was not a table favourite despite its general popularity, but I did enjoy it overall.The sourdough parpadelle was delicious, but a bit heavy. My sister loved the hand rolled couscous with the pea shoots and feta. The steak was solid; you could tell they used good quality beef.We ordered the honeycomb ice cream and lime lead creme de pot; both were hits with the whole table. Definitely dont skip dessert!For drinks, I highly recommend the ginger beet situation - the ginger is sharp but pairs excellently with the beet.

I had the pleasure of having an amazing dinner here and it exceeded expectations. Not only was the food absolutely fresh, unique, and amazing the service was outstanding. I have a dairy allergy and this was no problem given the menu had lots of options that were easily modified and didnt loose any of the spectacular flavor. I look forward to coming back and highly recommend Rustic Canyon.

We have eaten at Rustic Canyon several times and have enjoyed the food and dining experience well enough to return. Last night’s meal blew us away. We tried a dish in every category. The portions are shareable.Recommended dishes: smoked chicken, lamb meatballs, melon salad, crab stuffed zucchini flowers, and ricotta semifreddo.Everything was freshly made and finger-licking good! Hats off to the chef. See you tomorrow. 😃

Wow, what a wonderful culinary experience this was. Everything is made with such detail. Service is impeccable (we were served by the young man with two nose piercings and he was wonderful). Even the simple bread and butter was transformed into something out of this world ; warm homemade brioche and butter in the shape of a honeycomb WITH honeycomb!We loved every dish! Concocted with perfection, all the dishes had something special that you dont see in other restaurants.What a lovely experience (yes, maybe Im fishing for a discount or two, haha!) !!

4.4/5We went to the rustic canyon for a birthday celebration after reading great reviews about it. We ordered almost everything on the menu as for the most part, the plates are on the smaller side. The best dish we tried was the pork chops with salmon roe which were absolutely incredible. While a lot of the plates were good, some of them were also a little underwhelming. The anchovies dish in particular was extremely salty. I understand that canned anchovies are salty, but there are ways to tone down the salt levels like using acidity. All in all, the creativity was greatly admired, the service was great, and the pork chops were incredible.We at the Zasón guide give them a Ç for creativity and the pork chop dish.

Reservations? Glad we had them. Granted, it wasnt too busy at 5:25pm on a Tuesday, but it got busy soon after. When I tasted the food, I knew why.Fun fact, Michelin Star restaurants are called such due to their origin from the Michelin Tire company which started a guidebook featuring restaurants of high quality and taste. Rustic Canyon is a Michelin Star restaurant! Dont be surprised when you see the Michelin Man holding toothpicks at the door. Thats a good sign.The staff? Knowledgeable, friendly, and quick. The food? Perfectly portioned, exquisite, and tasteful. Everything we ordered was delicious, even if some dishes were surprising in their ingredients.Cousin to Birdie Gs, make this a must in Santa Monica.

Delicious and inspirational cuisine. The endive and pork chop dishes stood out as our favorites, but nothing disappointed. Ingredients were fresh and well used in each. Complex and varied textures were a focus we both enjoyed. And while it amped up the brightness, food was a tad salty on some dishes. Both drinks we ordered were delightful: Bloodshot and The Good Decision. Well balanced and interestingly nuanced.Service was very attentive and knowledgeable and decisively improved the experience. Great work here!Rustic Canyon was a wonderful way to enhance our anniversary night.

The food here was great. Most of the food we received was delicious and the service was awesome. The only reason why this didnt get 5 stars is the chicken was a miss and the strawberry sorbet was good, but it wasnt strawberry enough for me. It slightly missed the mark. The steak was really great and worth coming here for. The chicken liver mouse was delicious and the pickled items really made this dish stand out. The only thing I would suggest is that for the beets, the menu mention that theyre pickled. It was unexpected. I enjoyed it, but I have a friend who doesnt like pickles and I was glad she didnt join us for dinner as this dish would have been an unexpected surprise and not in a good way. If you come here, get the chicken liver mousse and the steak. These were worth eating.

Rustic Canyon did nothing but impress me tonight. The service was great, food was amazing and the fact that its got a patio rocks. If I lived in Los Angeles Id probably come here on special occasions as three courses a la carte cost me as much as a normal pre fixe. Its worth it though if youre looking for fine dining in the area.

Casual spot with surprisingly delicious food! The terrace was very cute and had romantic vibes with the cute lighting. The food was mostly great! Ordered to share so we could try a bit of everything. It was an explosion of flavors, staring with string peas with white chocolate macadamia, then a mussel chowder that was my favorite (celery based so not heavy at all) and then shared a grass fed steak. Not very happy with the steak - had tons of nerves so eating it was not pleasant. The desserts were mind blowing - must try the cherry pie! Service was very friendly. Prices are high.

*EDITED FOR January 2023, 2 stars: VINEGAR. Lack of balance. I dont understand how so many dishes coming out could have so many basic issues. Is no one tasting these? Many of the dishes seemed changed just to change them (even more so than the weekly and seasonal adjustments). The kitchen back staff has changed and so has the head chef. I was excited to try new dishes from Zarah Khan, but after tasting new dishes I am left greatly underwhelmed and mourn the loss of my favorite local eatery. Michelin has also dropped the star off the location as well. I just want to visit again and have all the dishes be wonderful!- Beets n Berries: More salty/vinegar, longer pickle? Dish felt more mixed instead of clear.- Carrot persimmon tahini: Ok, tahini felt odd. Fruit was tasty.- Bread n butter: Great as usual, but no house ricotta.- Gem lettuce salad: Greatly over salted and cant taste as much of the shallot vinaigrette.- Trout main: Fish was very nice. A slight sweet glaze and seasoned and cooked well. The baby bok choy was just blanched and had no flavor. The beans and grassy sauce didnt fit with the dish. Some of the beans were under.- Roti and chickpea stew: Flavors on the main stew and cream and roti were all nice. Far too much strong parsley overwrites any nice smaller flavors and the green sauce is again too much acid on a dish that doesnt need it. Chickpeas bland and some were under.- Pasta: You can tell the dish is great. Unfortunately it is also married with too much acid (AGAIN?!) in a dish that didnt ask for any. The addition of capers and a lot of lemon(?) juice makes it feel like shrimp scampi instead of a creamy sourdough mushroom dish.- Lamb: Best dish of the night. The lamb was delicious and tender, what little jus on the plate was very flavorful. The salted top crust was balanced against the meat and the little bit of finish from the sesame was surprising and went well with the lamb to my surprise. Again, the greens were a bit bitter and shared a similar salty/acid mix as the rest of the dishes.- Chocolate shortbread cookies, K&K Ranch walnut mousse, honey crumb cake: A strong, unsweetened smoked chocolate mousse inside an eggy shortbread cookie ruined the whole dish. Just a lick of the chocolate overpowered the light walnut mousse,crumb, and coffee jelly.For 2020-2022, 5 stars: Great food, great ingredients, and usually great execution. Rustic Canyon is easily one of my top 3 restaurants in the LA area and Ive been back again and again. Some of the dishes can be misses because they change their menu multiple times a week, but the mainstays are all fantastic. While the cost is on the higher end, the pricing is easily fair for what you get.The beets/berries, sourdough pasta, gem salad, and bread are all wonderful. I personally did not enjoy the chicken that they are so well known for, it was too sweet and not balanced which was a surprise and I have not ordered it again.I also recommend trying multiple desserts as their dessert chef is quite good!

This restaurant is contemporary Californian, with a unique wine list and unique dishes, or the way they are prepared. Fried pork belly with pickled veggies was not my favorite, as the overall taste was pickled veggies. Pork chop and sourdough pasta were really good. Deserts were also very unique and different. Come prepared to eat with both your eyes and your mouth. The good looking staff ( aspiring actors, perhaps ) will be a feast for the windows of your soul, making up for the lack of colors in the food. The chef incorporates a great deal of local ingredients ( California cuisine as it is referred apparently) as seen in all the brand names in the ingredients and concocts dishes that are fresh and tasty. However, they really lack in presentation. Truly, the eyes need to eat before the mouth.Also, the staff and the kitchen could have done a better job at the order the food was brought out. We ordered multiple entrees to share between us 2 and some really strong flavor dishes came out before the milder flavored ones.Overall, I came for the one Michelin star and ended up subtracting a star from the overall score

Wonderful culinary experience at Rustic Canyon on their back patio. While the beet and berry quinoa salad is not to be missed, the endive and chewy strawberries is a must have as one of our fellow diners who is not fond of endive devoured this dish. The scallop ceviche was also good. The thick pork chop sauce of trout roe was a standout and was accompanied by the wonderful baby butternut squash so young you could eat the skin and the brown sugar brûlée was perfect. The potato with mimolette cheese was a meal in itself. The bass was OK as the pepper sauce added nothing and it was not uniformly cooked (some perfectly cooked and some over cooked areas). The star of the show was Pastry Cher Erica Chan’s take on baked Alaska and deconstructed chocolate cake. Those of use who love spicy devoured the passion fruit cake with spicy (three chilies no less) sherbet under a mound of meringue. Did I also mention their cocktails were also excellent.

Very DissapointingMichelin missed the mark on this one, its not 1*, by a long shot.Food is good but not creative or complex.The yellowfin tuna was fishy due to the skin and blood line being left on, pasta was good but nothing outstanding, the squash was typical of a middle eastern style restaurant but underwhelming, and the chocolate and pear desert was bland.Service is sub par and far too casual, having to request the table water carafe to be filled and the server didnt pour our wine or water. The sommelier appeared uninterested in describing or recommending wines.Ambience is busy and loud.Give it a miss.

Great dinner place. Lovely spot for a date with delicious food and wine. They have a wide selection of wine by the glass or bottle. The food was so delicious. We started with the cheese plate that had such amazing cheeses and the Milo and Olive bread. The bread was to die for. I had heard about their sister store (Milo and Olive) from friends and I now need to go check it out. For dinner we had the garden of gems salad, beets and berries dish, and the grass-fed hanger steak. Each dish was plated so intricately and tasted amazing! Will definitely be back

A 1 Michelin Star hyper-seasonal Farm to Table in Santa Monica. Chef/Owner Jeremy Fox is a James Beard nominated chef and pastry chef Erika Chan was named Michelin’s Outstanding California Pastry Chef in 2021. That being said I was very excited when booking this reservation and I was not let down. The whole staff was very polite and our server Marti did an exceptional job. Pricing is also fair for a Michelin star due to the fact they offer a la carte. Melisse right across the street is $295/per person for a fixed menu only so having the ability to pick and choose dishes is a real bonus. Parking is also very easy in this part of town, it will be a block at most to walk.I started off with the Beets & Berries starter and it was probably my second favorite dish of the night. The combo of the fruit and beets were a perfect level of sweetness. Next came the Spiced Lamb Sausage, which was pretty tasty but my least favorite dish of the night. It came with 4 small lamb meatballs so the meat yield was tiny and I felt it had too many peas. At the end it was just a ton of peas and sauce in the bowl so I would skip this dish. Next came the Dungeness Crab Toast and it was really good and felt almost like a breakfast dish. The combo with the onions was pleasantly surprising. For my entree I chose the Baja Halibut and it was my favorite dish of the night. The Halibut was perfectly cooked and the koji butter broth was heavenly. For dessert we had the Pavlova and it was a great end to the meal. A good sized portion and for $14 it was right in line, or maybe $2-4 more, with a standard high end restaurant.Overall a delicious meal and I would feel comfortable recommending it to anyone. The plates are meant to share and the interior is quite small so I would say it’s best suited for a date, celebration, or a dinner with friends or family.

We arrived from Joshua tree, we had planned to go to our place and change before dinner. La traffic had other plans. We didn’t know if we would be dressed appropriately but we felt fine. The service was warm and welcoming. We had excellent cocktails. The food was very good. The mushrooms had so much going on, the crunch and slight chew were executed so well. The Sun chokes were equally good. Our 5 year old had gnocchi and loved it. The honey comb ice cream was otherworldly. I could write more but I’d say just go, it’s all so good.

Couldn’t have had a more enjoyable dinner. Booked this spot as an out of towner and the carefully curated farm to table menu did not disappoint. The service was outstanding. Highly…no, firmly, suggest doing the same.Continued on to the sourdough Cacio a Pepe and as you may have guessed by now, would also recommends that journey for you. It was…in a word…transcendent. The sour tenderness of the noodles juxtaposed against the briny green of the sea lettuce against the frothy sauce - just order it already. You’ll thank me later.Next came the pork chop smothered in tarragon and mustard and (…I think fennel?) and trout roe all creamily covering the juiciest, tender chop that I’ve ever tied into. Been meaning to come for a while and this is definitely a great Californian restaurant. It maybe a little loud for some but Im already used to the LA crowd noise. Setting is really nice but a little small. Food was great and pretty well priced, recommend the beets and berries, pozole verde, Milo and Olive bread even though it couldve been more toasted, garden of gems salad was good, hangar steak with salsa verde was awesome and rockfish is another nice entree. We finished with the chocolate tart and the honeycomb ice cream from Sweet Rose which was really nice. They also have great cocktails and even do an Office themed Threat Level Midnight drink.Overall, food before drinks and tip/tax was around 80 bucks, good price and we had some steak for leftovers. They also do their customary RC group 3% service charge for workers health insurance, so remember that for tipping. Worth the one Michelin star.

We had two appetizers, one of them was their signature dish (beets), two main dishes (trout and gnocchi) and two deserts (one of them again their signature desert). Gnocchi was probably the best dish we ordered, but everything was just bland, no depth of flavor. and some dishes were too heavy. I just felt ripped off. $180 for two ppl, no drinks, only a $10 bottle of still water. Completely overpriced, less than mediocre food.

Amazing place. High end food, great service, nothing pretentious or fussy. Just a very skillful cooking, well designed menu, dishes are full of flavors. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Don’t expect to get stuffed here, not an american poor style cooking. To have a full experience you need to order a few courses, plates. Highly recommend, it is one of the best places in LA for sure.

All the food was great. The food is served in sharable dishes. There were really only 2 dishes on the menu that were vegan or could be made vegan. Its expensive because the food is delicious and you get waited on hand and food. Reason I give it four stars is because its a little too expensive, especially when it comes to like a beer or other normal items and they dont have a ton of vegan options.

Unfortunately, we had a below average experience on my birthday visit.I reserved a table for 3 at 6pm via Resy. When we arrived, the hostess asked are you celebrating a birthday?. I was surprised and asked how did he find out about it? Then the hostess responded that its probably through Resy system. I responded its interesting what data is gathered through the system. And he asked impatiently, so is this for your birthday or no? I said, yes, its my birthday. So, the night started strangely, but whatever.While we were chatting and eating our appetizers, one busboy came over and asked if we finished the dishes, even though there are still food in the serving plate. Another 5 min or so, another busboy came by and asked if he could remove our plates. So quickly split up the remaining appetiziers and let him remove the plate from our table.After we finished our meal, the waiter came over and provided us dessert menu. I want to say in 2-3 min, the waiter came by and asked something like do you want a dessert or your check? And, in case you were wondering, it was only 7:05pm and the place was half empty. I really dont understand why are they rushing us to finish and leave.Oh, by the way, remember that the hostess asked if we were celebrating my birthday? Well, Im not sure why he asked because we didnt receive anything, not even a Happy birthday from anyone.Appetizers were great and tasty. We werent so impressed with their main dishes. Dessert was great. But due to their service, I wouldnt recommend this place and not sure why it earned a Michelin star.

Cozy dining experience with fantastic chef inspired dishes that were elegantly hand crafted seemingly just for us! The place was packed at 9:15, but we had a reservation and were seated shortly. The staff was amazing; we were impressed by the knowledge and friendliness of everyone while remaining professional. The wine suggested by the bartender was superb. I may have had a bordeaux while we were waiting for our table to be ready. When seated and ordered, I started with a salad of fresh lettuces. It had a nice light dressing and radishes. It was the best salad Ive eaten of this style. My husband had a kabocha for an appetizer/starter dish, and it was amazing. The butternut squash puree was perfect as well as the accompanying seasoning. For the main course, I had the sea bass which was prepared so well I did not detect any fishiness that is often present in not so fantastic fish. Needless to say, I was impressed. For dessert (I splurged) I had a lemon tart? It was amazing. We also tried the house made ice cream... If you go, either one is worth the trip. I highly recommend this place. I can say nothing bad at all.

We finally had the chance ahead of a concert at the nearby Broad recently, and, well, they really hit it far out of the park again. With all of that going for us, even the best restaurants can sometimes take a hit in terms of our experience there. In this case our experience, from beginning to end, was perfect.I started with the Sage Advice Cocktail which was among the best Old Fashioned style drinks Ive had.We shared a number of things including a side of polenta which normally comes with a meat dish, that was absolutely creamy, savory and delicious. We also started with a side of lavender almonds. The flavor in these almonds was so delightful. Ive been thinking about them for weeks and every time I mention them my wife starts to drool.Other dishes such as the Garden of Lettuces, and Beets and Berries, which couldve been so plain and simple with just the ingredients listed in the titles included, were incredibly artfully presented and tasty with all kinds of unique flavors going for them.The artisan cheese plate, which mostly I just ate being the one person at the table who eats any kind of dairy, also sent me into my own special private dairy fantasyland. Im fairly sure I woke up in a cheese coma, later just chanting the names of the cheeses and compote they had delivered to me.Everything we received was presented like art on a plate. Ive heard a lot about rustic canyon over the years and finally decided to give it a shot after they recently earned a Michelin star. Ill caveat that the star rating set my expectations pretty high, and Ive fortunately been able to experience a good number of Michelin rated restaurants in the past.With that in mind, I thought rustic canyon was miles away from what I consider the Michelin bar to be. Their dishes were experimental and interesting, but far from nuanced or consistent.We had a salmon sashimi which was placed on a bed of vinagered potatoes topper with baby popcorn. The salmon was great quality, but the texture was absolutely killed by the mushy potatoes underneath and the flavor of the fish overpowered by the vinegar. The popcorn was actually welcome, offering any texture whatsoever.I did enjoy the rillette, but it wasnt especially memorable.Overall, I appreciate the vision the restaurant is aiming for, but the composition just isnt there. Its relatively affordable for a Michelin tier restaurant but there are plenty of incredible restaurants in LA with similar prices that are way more worth your time and money.

I first wanted to try Rustic Canyon when I read their menu. The ingredients will sound very familiar if you have been to the Santa Monica or Hollywood Farmers Markets. Google calls Rustic Canyon Californian for a reason after all. We had the liver tart, English peas with cream and horseradish, mussel & celery chowder, hot honey chicken, asparagus, pavlova, and honeycomb ice cream. If I had to choose two, it would have been the mussels (though I did miss picking at mussel shells) and ice cream. I appreciated how innovative and ingredient-forward RCRs dishes were. I will gladly (and fairly blatantly) plagiarize some of their ideas at home, like glazing my roast chicken in hot honey, serving asparagus with a dark sauce, adding bits of honeycomb when I feel like using my ice cream maker, and adding celery to my pot of steaming mussels next time I have family over...whenever that may be.

That said, service was less than stellar and not what I would have expected. Our server was a little more than an order taker. We had a late lunch and then came in for dinner at 8:45 but still proceeded to order a few mains and drink or two. The drink took a bit of time to get to the table (both times) but was really good. The timing of the food was a bit off as well as the mains didn’t come out all at once but as it was ready and so we waited until all the mains were out before having the meal. We also ordered the pork, which while flavorful, was a bit fatty. After all of this, we received our bill and we were shocked by being charged for two glasses of champagne that we did not order. The service here is excellent and the ambiance is pleasant. The food, which is meant to be shared, varied between mediocre and absolutely transcendent. Our bbq ribs, for example, though tender, basically tasted like unseasoned, near-expiration pork. On the other hand, the mussel and scallop chowder was a culinary miracle of astonishing deliciousnes; Nuanced, flavorful, and creamy despite containing no cream.Id look forward to eating here more often if the quality of dishes was more consistent or if I had someone to scout the often-changing menu for me ahead of time. All-in-all it was a very good experience diminished only by the varying quality of the dishes.

I was very surprised to find out this was a Michelin star restaurant after leaving. The food was so bland! The squash tasted like regular unseasoned squash, the crumble stuff on top kind of tasted like elevated Chex Mix dust lol, seriously. The corn showder thing with the tomatoes just tasted like tomatoes with olive oil, no salt or interesting flavor really. The beets were good but you cant really mess up beets. The most reasonably priced thing we got was the cherry husk desert which was pretty good. I dont wunna pay like $30 for a plain ole squash because its organic/farm to table, I want to pay that much because its actually elevated and tastes crazy! Went here for my girlfriends bday and well def not be coming back. Service was good and plates came out fast.

This place is very expensive and the portions are really quite small; we left hungry after spending nearly nearly $400 (including tip) for 4 adults (only 3 total drinks).The food was a mixed bag. Some of the smaller plates were very good (but you only got one or two bites max when shared with the table); the larger plates, including the $90 lamb, was only okay.We wanted to like this place, but we also wanted to leave satiated. The former cant happen without the latter, unfortunately. We probably wont return.

We simply love this restaurant. Came here for my husbands birthday. The service is amazing and the food extraordinary. The dishes are always surprising! The chef does things with ingredients that you would never expect and they always work really beautifully. I mean what the heck can you do with simple vanilla ice cream? I am going to dream about it. Tonight we had so many amazing dishes and some of the outstanding dishes were the muscles and a gnocchi type pasta with butter beans. Our waiter is one that we have had many times. We believe he is related to the owner but not sure. He is fantastic and his energy extraordinary he always makes you feel welcome.

Menu changes daily. I was there for the first time on 9/19/21. All their cocktails were delicious! I tried 4, and not one missed. The flavor profiles on some dishes were different to say the least. The Apple scallops with macadamia nuts was strange.. I guess I expected whole scallops but they were minced and it was very strange having it with apple chunks. The amberjack crudo with dragonfruit was good. The Bolognese pasta was cooked to perfection. The spicy dungeon crab over sourdough had the texture of dog food which was strange.. the steak was flavorful and delicious! The rum cake with plums was very bitter, but the honeycomb ice cream hit the spot being sweet and salty. Overall it was a great experience but some dishes just didn’t suit my palate.. I’ll definitely try this place again to see what else they create next, Ymmv. Pricing was decent for the area. I understand the rustic theme and appreciate the atmosphere, and how they source everything locally.

The pozole verde was DELICIOUS. Highly recommend even though it was on the pricey side ($20). Seems like the kind of place where youd need reservations, although I went with a friend right at opening on a Friday evening (5:30pm) and was able to get a seat in the bar area (they were also seating those without reservations outside).---------- ✨ five year interlude ✨ ----------Made a return visit to Rustic Canyon in late Feb 2022, and it did not disappoint. I came in a Thursday night at 6:30pm without a reservation, and though the main dining room had an hour wait, they were able to seat my party of two on their outdoor heated patio on the back side of the restaurant. The heat lamps: powerful and made me feel nice and toasty during a Los Angeles winter. Service was impeccable, the drink menu was extensive (including plenty featuring my favorite spirits: Tequila and Mezcal), and the food was *chefs kiss* exceptional. My friend and I split the gem lettuce salad, I ordered the sourdough noodles with peas, she ordered the chicken, and we each had two drinks. I also wrapped up my meal with the honeycomb ice cream and a hot mint tea. Total bill came to $226 including tip, so definitely a splurge at $113pp. Would highly recommend for a special occasion, a nice date, or a treat yourself moment.

There was a special sweet glazed fried our take on Buffalo chicken and the Buffalo sauce tasted like a spicy pureed Slim Jim.The Fire and Brimstone cocktail drinks like a bitter Margarita getting sweeter by the end, and is even garnished with lava salt.Ordered the Honey Chicken for entrée, as we were informed by others that this was the thing to get. It came out with a great cook on it; skin just slightly brown on the edges, lightly seasoned with a bit of delicious sauces drizzled under it. The bites of the chicken involving the sauce and pecans were amazing, unfortunately they dont give you enough for the amount of chicken. Not that Id want a bowl, but maybe a small pool underneath instead of a trendy drizzle.I dont know what criteria the critics assign Michelin stars by, and I dont understand why this restaurant recieved one over much better tasting local fare. Even though the waitress forewarned us that our dishes most likely would come out separately and it would take 35 to 40 minutes before we even get our main dishes, which I thought was strange because if you are paying for $40 for a plate of steak&broccoli, cooked medium and my partners halibut, which was $35 and neither one takes long to cook, but we are told the dishes come out separately and cooked to order. It was weird because my dish came out and I finished eating it in front of my partner, which I think is considered rude to eat in front of your partner, and his finally came out 15 to 20 minutes after I finished my dish, then his finally came out, but we were done. The timing of the meal was very off. If that is common we will never go back. Food was okay. Bill was $65 bottle of wine, an appetizer of bread and cheese and my steak came to $132. We wanted the shared dining experience was killed with my date because I am eating in front of my date while he had to wait for his meal. It was awkward!

We ordered approximately 8 different dishes shared them all, loving all of them. The Grist & Toll Polenta was our favorite. We loved the ricotta dumplings, the squid salad (spicy), the chicken liver mousse and the smoked salmon & gravlax toast. All were amazing. We started with the four artisan cheeses...so good! We realized the key to eating here is to share and not latch onto one dish. The meal wasnt cheap! With drinks and tip we spent about $75 per person, but we will be back soon!

The lemon tart was pretty good, too. We did not like the dandelion chocolate budino thing, Im not a fan of apple butter (at ALL).The negatives:The acoustics can be a little loud, but I noticed if you had a booth it was quieter because of the low ceilings above the booth (the gal I was with said it was MUCH louder in a table on the floor). The did try to do something about the acoustics by installing buffers in the ceiling nearest the window, I cant imagine how noisy it would be without them.I would also suggest that they need to clean the underside of their tables. Sitting at the booth with the sun where it was when we sat down I could see that the edges of all of the tables within my view needed to be cleaned.All in all it was a great experience - the service was spectacular and our meal was top-notch.

The server we had was more interested in selling us alcohol than serving us food. Since we dont drink and thereby didnt order any alcohol, the server decided to ignore us completely. I regret of giving tips, in spite of that. I wish I could get that money back. If there was a way to put ZERO star here, I would have done that. A bad place!! There are much better restaurants in Santa Monica. We had the best dinner on July 5th at Elephante in Santa Monica. Cant say enough how happy we were to have the dinner at the Elephante.. Probably one of the better meals if not the best, Ive had here in Santa Monica. I went solo and later in the evening so I was able to eat or order how I wouldve liked. Shame on me for not asking what the market price was for the ribeye steak. We were with another couple and didnt want to seem cheap. I observed that the highest priced item with a printed price was $44. The steak did not have a description stating that it was oversized although I was aware that it was prime. Even $80 +/- would have been ok. $166.50 however I believe is an outrageous amount to charge without disclosing it to the table.

I dont much care for salads in general but this was wonderful and they did an even better job with the wine pairing for both this and the Mezzaluna (amazing dish, just wish it was twice the size). Burger was served perfectly and was a treat with the farm egg and confit bacon. It really feels like a place where you just couldnt go wrong with your selection.

Amazing appetizers. Mains are good. Service is average/good. The appetizers are so good though I’m still here for the 4 stars!

Ive read somewhere that people think Rustic Canyon has the best burgers in L.A., but that would be completely false. Rustic Canyon makes a nice looking burger, but the beef patty tastes bland, and really doesnt compare to Golden State or Fathers Office. Id definitely go for the pillowy soft gnocchi and the rhubarb strawberry crostata instead of the burger. Just dont forget to visit the ATM beforehand, this restaurant would not be considered cheap eats.

Not to be missed. The polenta made me want to take my clothes off and at the table and start rubbing myself all over and i dont even like polenta!! I never knew it could be like THAT!! 🤯😱 The simplicity of the ingredients, preparations and flavors stripped down to their radiant nourishing core made for the most outstanding culinary sensory experience ive had in a looooong time. Like eating it you knew there were only 5 ingredients and u knew what they were, but how?! HOW did they do that to me?? I woke up this morning depressed 1. that there were no leftovers ;) and 2. that i have to face the regular food in my fridge today and everyday now knowing that ecstacy is out there...

A fantastic seasonal and farm-to-table restaurant, with innovative menu items and an exceptional wine list. Being a part of the Zoe Nathan Loeb and co restaurant group means breads from Milo & Olive, which cant be beat. The place gets busy in the evenings, especially on weekends, so make a reservation in advance if you can.

Not bad place with average food choice and deserts. Cocktails are good though. Overpriced a bit. Also big plates are not that big(smaller than average meal size). Classy interior.

I dont understand how this is a Michelin starred restaurant. Completely underwhelmed by the entire experience but especially the food which was well executed but completely unremarkable.$500 for dinner with pairings and the entire experience - wine, food, service - was mediocre.
