This course has a wonderful layout and play for the area and current drought conditions. However, this is a very crowded course. Most groups that are not already matched up, may be matched to make a 5-some. The pace of play is very slow and at times, too slow. Beware of the long waits and an audience at almost every tee shot. Practice greens were rather fast paced, yet was a bit rough out on the course. Fairways were decent with opportunities to play out from adjacent fairways. Staff is a bit surly, but once on the course its a great time. The driving range is a double decker with not too many stalls, they are a tad narrow, but doable.

Just challenging enough. Trees line many of the fairways, but not too packed and the fairways are all reasonably wide. Good little challenge. Today the greens were rough, but they recently aerated, so you know how that goes.Tee boxes are reasonably today and typically arent too chewed up.Nice scenery.Two layer range (irons only on top) with good targets. Mats are all reasonably new. The use thing edge ones, so they can replace easily.Prices are reasonable for what you get, too.Go try it out.

I played with my friend for 1st time. The Course lay out is fun to play. I would go back to play again for sure. Club house is clean nice. I didnt used the range but next time I will try it and update the review.

The fairway was brown and poorly maintained but greens were very challenging. Stay on fairways or lose your balls in rough. The pace of play was slow which took 5 1/2 hours to finish 18 holes on weekday.

This golf course is really nice. The range, putting green, and the chipping area is really good. The course itself is well maintained. The greens were aerated when I played, but they still played well. I really liked how well the intercom worked for them to announce who was next to tee off. Most of the other courses I have played a weak sounding system you can barely hear.

This golf place is really good! It is open during the morning at 6AM. This place has many trees and ponds as well as fun little courses as well as a practice area! It is just that the golf place is a little out of our budget as there are other cheaper alternatives but other than that, it is great.

First time there. Went to attend a wedding and reception. What a beautiful location. The wedding took place outside, beautiful sunset as the backdrop. Reception room was set up nice, food was amazing staff was on top of everything what a great memory for our family. Thank you staff.

Course in great shape. Nice pro shop stocked with pretty much anything you need. Starter was cool and got me as a single squeezed in pretty quick and easy. Good food in snack bar and saw cart girl at least twice on a Thursday. Nice facility, great course, fun to play, definitely coming back.

Pro: nice course - pretty well kept good value for this type of course if you can play the whole courseCons. 3.5 hrs to play nine holes no management to keep players moving so you will sit and wait for 30 minutes on a hole. We were backed up 4 deep. So either management needs to manage the course better or back up times between start times. Paid for 18 holes and could barely get 9 holes in. We started at 2:50 and should have been able to get through 14 or 15 holes before dark. Will not play here again.

We played a Monday round with a 11am tee time. The customer service was awesome. Everyone was friendly, informative and willing to help with any questions I had. The course was in good condition. We saw members of the grounds crew filling fairway divots throughout the round which is nice since the carts had no sand due to covid. The grounds crew was paying attention to golfers while doing their job of maintaining course conditions. They would move out of the way/turn their carts off (gas powered) while we were hitting. The lack of a putting green was a bummer. The greens were a little slow for my liking and the speed was a little inconsistent but the average golfer wouldnt notice. Its a short course without any water or wasteland you need to carry off the tee but with tight fairways and undulating greens. Its probably one of the best courses Ive seen where beginners and scratch golfers can have fun and be challenged. I am a +2.2 handicap if that provides any context.

Very nice course. Well maintained and very professional. I like that there quite a few par 5’s and nice and challenging par 3’s.The greens may need a little work as the ball was quite bumpy when putting. Sometimes hard to read a line.Driving range facilities are top class as are the practice putting green. With 3 players in our group, we got round in 4 hours. Not much waiting behind the party in front.Would recommend this over Lakewood Country Club.

TOTAL TRASH. Tee-off was delayed for 30+ min and took 3 hrs to play front 9 holes. The staffs don’t manage the pace. I had to wait 5-10 min for every tee shot and second shot.This course is worthless and I left after front 9.

The course was in good shape. The greens had been punched recently so the putts were a bit off. All around it was a great experience. There are some challenging par 3s to contend with but there is also the opportunity to score low if you can keep your drive in the fairway because it will roll a long way.

Good spot to hit a bucket of balls at the shooting range. 2 decks to go on. Nice lil spot to practice your putting as well! Nice that they serve beer and have a nice snack bar as well! 10 bucks for a large bucket is pretty much the usual going rate, so I think its pretty good and close to many cities near by!I have gone for the 18 holes and its definitely a very well maintained facility. Stay on the fairway or suffer the consequences of the rough lol. Great place all around! Definitely will go back and get another 18!

Pretty good shape and a great/interesting layout to play. POP was a bit slow. Had to wait on 75% of the tee boxes. We teed off at 8:44...you really need to tee off before 8 to have a decent POP. Good luck getting an early tee time...even during the week. Because of the pandemic, way too many people taking up golf. Doesnt anyone work anymore?

One of the great Socal tracks. Its a course best described as a tale of two nines. The front is a challenge but survive and the back is totally gettable. Greens have break subtly around the cup so you must commit with pace to hole anything. POP on Sunday morning 4.5hrs.

Played 18 holes here on a Friday afternoon. Staff were very professional. The course is well kept and challenging. Greens are tricky on most holes. Pace of play was quick and easy. Beautiful fairways and I would definitely ply here again.

Have always had a good time coming here. If its just coming to the range or for a round. Everyone has been friendly. Robbie has been great for golf lessons. My family and I have had 3 sessions and its starting to help. Any questions I have had have been helped with. Just putting the club to the ball is the issue. Lmao. Good luck out there. The Course its nice and most staff is friendlyHowever there is a marshal and coach, named Scott, who ruined our day by discriminating us, two small Asian women. We were joined with a lady and gentleman who must have been good players. The gentleman did a teeoff at Blue tee and the lady did it off at white tee and we had to do ours at the red.My friend and I were entering the red tee right after the lady and the gentleman finished their teeoff, my friend and I were entering the red teebox for our first teeshot but the gentlemen and the lady forgot about us and went into the fairway for the second shot.We were puzzled with what was happening in the teebox and Scott was yelling at us ordering us to join them.We explained we didnt even do teeoff then Scott was literally threatening us Just teeoff or I am going to take off your (cart) key. When I had to shout back to explain we didnt do teeoff, he said stop yelling at him.Scott sent a young marshal to the lady and the gentleman to move over, while he kept yelling at us.If Scott had to take an action, he should have done asking the other two to wait for us without yelling at anybody and making threats.It was so awful experience and ruined our day. Especially Scott wasnt say a word to Americans who actually made the mistake forgetting us and nicely sent someone to let them move over, but he was yelling and threatening at two Asian women. Pulling out the cart key was a definite threat

Is it common practice for a golf course employee to scream, yell, and threaten customers?As soon as my friend and I entered #1 tee off, I heard someone screaming, Join them! at us.We were confused, as it took us a moment to realize what the situation was.Our joining members, a gentleman and a lady, didnt wait for us to finish our shots and were readying themselves for their second shot in the distance. He yelled at us again and ordered us to join them.My friend bristled and asked, Why are you screaming at us?He said, Join them or Im going to take (the golf cart) key!How we can join them when we hadnt had the chance to first shot!How can he threaten the customer!!Later we found out he was the manager named Scott Wally.When we complained about this incident, he change his wordsaying After tee off shot, you join them!He apologized in a mocking way.He totally ruined our day and experience at Rio Hondo Golf Club.

The Rio Hondo Golf Club is located in Downey, CA. I had never played there until recently and I was very happy I did. They have some great holes that really took it to me but overall we had a great time. It is priced right so it does not break the bank and makes it economical to play there often. I will be back & apologize in advance for hitting into other fairways. FORE!!!

The other reviewers are spot on. Solid public course, but the pace is brutal. The carts had some suggestions in them on how to improve pace, management wants it to improve but it was just too slow. 4 hours got us through 13 holes and had to cut the round short.

One of the best maintained courses in SoCal. It is challenging but fair with many trees and well placed bunkers. The greens run true but some have hidden breaks. The water features on 7 holes add to the challenge. There are good practice facilities, a small but well stocked pro shop, and a very nice lounge overlooking the 1st and 2nd holes

Really disappointed with the treatment we were given by Scott on 5/3/2020. My party and I were 3 mins late to our tee time and Scott had already canceled our reservation. We tried to explain to Scott that we were unloading and parking, but would like to please play as we traveled quite the distance to be here today (plus golfing was something we were eagerly looking forward to during this pandemic) - and he completely ignored our request plus treated us terribly and gave us so much unnecessary attitude. I would frequently visit this course for both business and pleasure, but will now spread the word of the horrible excuse of customer service offered at this establishment. I wont be returning and neither will my friends or colleagues.

I was trying to book a tee time for the morning of September 18th. I called September 10th to book and I spoke to “Mike”. Mike said they only take reservations a week prior to the date. Woke up early on September 11th, a week before September 18th, to book a tee time and the gentleman I talked to said they had a tournament going on until 3pm….. I am curious why “Mike” could not have relayed that information when I called the first time. The workers need to be better at communicating this information to the guest.

I have played 5 rounds at Rio Hondo. The 4 previous rounds I had no problem and the course was in good shape. The last round however was my worst golf experience ever. I was part of a foursome and 9 holes took us 3:25 min. It gets worse when we have go into the proshop to speak with someone. That someone was Steve. We ask Steve for a refund which he is unwilling to do but eventually gives us $25 back. Steve tells us that we must not golf much because a 3:25 min front 9 is common around the holidays. Granted to say the customer service and pace of play was a 1 star experience.

Played on a Monday afternoon, 1:30 pm starting time. Very slow play. The group in front of me was a fivesome, as were many other groups on the course. The course design and fivesomes dont mix well, with back-to-back five pars and back-to-back three pars. Its really slow play.Worse than the pace of play was the disrespect that the locals showed the course. I fixed ball marks on every green and didnt see one sand trap that had been raked.Im not very familiar with other nearby courses,but they are probably better than Rio Hondo.

I was very interested in this venue for my wedding so I scheduled an appointment with Mark. I detailed to him what time frame I was looking for for my wedding and he was very friendly on the phone and we exchanged cell phone numbers so that he could contact me if he had a change in plans. I live in Rancho Cucamonga, CA so I had to drive about 40 miles to get to Downey. My parents, fiance, and I arrive to the location and we began to look for Mark. My fiance spoke with a worker and said that he would try to find him. Fifteen minutes later we start to get anxious and we start asking other workers at the facility about his whereabouts. Five minutes later, someone approaches my dad and hands him packet. He then hands it to me and its a pricing packet from 2013. That same worker says Mark isnt here, would you still like a tour? This is for a quinceanra correct? I told this worker this is ridiculous and very unprofessional. He then said Mark had an emergency, which is fine, emergencies happen all the time, but when I drive over 40 miles ONE WAY to visit the place I would have liked a phone call so we could have rescheduled. It has been almost a week and I still have not received an email or phone call apologizing for the situation. What a waste of gas! 80 miles round trip! Be careful if you book here.
