Rich, Jacklyn, Jason and Team,Our family cannot thank you enough, for your expertise, care, and diligent training of our fur baby, 2 year old Oliver, a German Shepard.Rich, you saved us! We were so fortunate to find you, as after 15+ calls, no other trainer was willing to take on a dog with a ‘dangerous’ designation. We are now confident that with your excellent training of Oliver, and all the time you have spent and will spend, training our family, that we will never be put in any potentially risky situations again. We are committed to ensuring consistency and are aligned with everything you have taught us.Your board and train program is amazing. Oliver will now obey on command, not react to people or dogs that come and go, and we are confident that we can take him just about any where! His recall is excellent as he will now come to us whenever we call. No more barriers needed inside the house! He is barking so much less, and is overall, is just a calmer, and such an obedient dog.To anyone reading this, not only is Rich best in class and unbeatably credentialed in his trade, but he genuinely cares about pets and people. He will go above and beyond and is a great coach. Above all, I trust Rich unequivocally!Ridgeside K9 is the best investment you can make for your entire family and for your quality of life. Where do I even start!? This was such a great experience from beginning to end. Kylie was my pup Kobe’s trainer and she/ the whole Ridgeside team did an amazing job. I was never able to take Kobe out in public without him pulling and jumping on randombystanders. Now Kobe is able to focus on me and seemingly doesn’t even acknowledge outside distractions. Kylie was responsive, professional and kept me in the loop every step of the way. I can’t wait to continue Kobe’s training!

I can not begin to say enough amazing things about Rich and his staff at Ridgeside K9! About a year ago I was at a loss with my reactive Aussie and Rich was highly recommended by my friends and coworkers. Rich and his staff were so easy to work with to schedule our private lessons and even let us hop in some drop in classes before we graduated so my pup could learn neutrality amongst a large group of dogs and other distractions. There were many times I was frustrated and upset but Rich was always reassuring and knew just what we needed. The drop in classes are such a great bonus so I can continue to ask questions and keep my pup involved. I would recommend Rich and his staff to anyone who was looking for dog training! I can’t thank Rich and his staff enough for all the help they have been to me and my family!

The process before, during, and after Maddies time with Ridgeside K9 NorCal exceeded my expectations. The staff and their facilities are top rate. This wonderful group of trainers and staff helped to teach my dog the foundational training he needed. They gave me the guidance and training that I needed to continue his training. If it hadnt been for their help I might have given up. The communication between the trainers and myself was excellent. I knew that my dog was well cared for and they were able to help me to understand what my dog needed. I highly recommend them for training. This has made my life with my dog much better, and I am looking forward to the follow up appointment and continuing to learn the fine-tuning that will be needed in the months and years to come. If I go on a long vacation I will definitely consider sending him back for more training instead of to traditional boarding.

I want to say Thank you so very much to Tisha and Madison for the 3 week training Brodee my yellow lab had this past month. They brought back a new dog. Unbelievable how well he listens to every command. This photo was never able to take as he would always bolt out into the street. Not anymore. Tish had kept us in the loop with video and texts every day and you can see all the Love they gave Brodee and us too on the bring home day. So worth every penny on this training experience. They saved my dog basically. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!

My family and I have grown a lot as pet owners since working with this amazing team. It’s not just our dogs that need training, we do as well. The team at Ridgeside K9 is passionate, well educated, and in general a wonderful group of people. They have made us more confident dog owners, and have helped our dog Luca walk on leash more confidently, he stays on “place” with a full barbershop of people, he is neutral around other dogs, and is learning boundaries. We can’t wait to continue to learn more with private training so we can continue to build trust, crate him when needed, and get him comfortable with grooming.Thank you to Rich, Kylie, Shelby, Brett, Todd, Jacklyn, and everyone else at Ridgeside for all of your help and guidance, and for training us humans too! We are so grateful to have you as a part of our community.We highly recommend them for all of your training or boarding needs. I can’t say enough about Ridgeside K9 with how much they have helped my Nox and I! Being located in Sacramento, the ability to work with one of their offsite trainers was a great option for us. Not only was it closer than their Chico facility but I loved that Nox would be in someone’s home given that he’s 6 months old it just seemed like a good fit! He was able to swim in the trainers private pond (what lab puppy wouldn’t love that?) I refer anyone who will listen to Ridgeside and will continue to do so. Nox and I are so glad to be a part of the Ridgeside K9 family!

Ridgeside K9 NorCal staff are the best! They care for, train well and love on other people’s pets as if they are their own.We were admittedly hesitant to put our Golden Retriever in a board and train BUT Todd took the time to explain the process, address any concerns we had and reassure us, based on our issues, they could help us. They did just that! They are a dedicated team that just love what they do. our sweet girl is back home after 3 weeks, the same pup but with more obedience and manners. She is also loose leash walking and even was part of their bike riding training! We are beyond pleased with the results. The investment is WELL worth it! Thank you, Shelby, and the whole Rideside K9 family for having Zeus in your 3 week board and train program. The team at Ridgeside is absolutely amazing. They really do more than just train your dog they really go above and beyond, plus they take care of them and treat them like their own. Our sweet pup pulled on his leash, chased our chickens, and wouldnt always come when called, plus normal puppy behaviors. He has impulse control now and is so well mannered. They were so patient with us and took the time to teach us how to best continue the training at home and answer any questions we had. We couldnt be more happy with our decision to have our dog trained here after looking into multiple options. Its worth every penny!

I can’t say anything but GREAT THINGS about ridgesidek9They are so flexible and awesome at what they do. Driving 2+ hrs to come pickup/drop off my boy MAC for training and follow upI’ve worked with other dog trainers before but they seem to be the only ones that we have had success with. We would 100% recommend anyone and everyone to work with them as soon as they get a new pup.

Our GSD did the 3 week board and train here and I am blown away at her progress. She was a rescue and she had ZERO impulse control or manners. It took us months just to teach her sit and she still wouldn’t if there were any distractions. She was extremely difficult to be around because she lacked so much discipline and control. She came back from her 3 week training with Ridgeside a whole new dog with impulse control, confidence and manners. She walks great on a leash and she has so much more self control, which was exactly what we needed for her to be a good family dog for our children. The trainers and staff were friendly, helpful and communicated with us through her whole training. They exceeded our expectations completely. I read through so many reviews of different trainers before choosing Ridgeside And I’m so glad I did. Worth every penny!

Sending our Hank to Ridgeside K9 NorCal was the best decision we ever made for Hank and ourselves. Despite being a sweet dog, he was beginning to display unwanted behavior primarily around other dogs and food. He went to the 4 week board and train and the trainers did a phenomenal job!! And they taught us people a few things too!! We thoroughly enjoy working with Hank everyday. Thank you for all you have done for us.

Review for 3 week board and train.I rescued a dog over a year and a half ago from a bad situation and realized over time I was in over my head with his behavioral issues, insecurities, fearfulness, and high prey drive.I felt I needed to leave a truthful review for anyone who is considering the Board and Train Program with Ridgeside K9. Money is extremely tight in my world, and I made the decision months ago that my dog needed an intervention, confidence building, and a professional to help me help my dog and I flourish together. I heard a lot of great things via fb about Ridgeside, so every month, I shoved money away for his training fund, and when I finally was ready, I gave them a call!My dog was thoroughly evaluated before entering the program by the owner himself,and it was determined he needed a three week program.During the board and train I was connected with a contact trainer (Kylie) who provided me weekly updates with pictures and videos to show his progress and to ease my anxiety from being away from my fur baby. This was huge, as I naturally had doubts that my dog could change the very nature of his fearful personality and slightly stubborn ways when his prey drive kicks in. These updates kept me connected and disproved my doubts every step of the way!On the day of pickup, I was required to go through a two hour training session. I believe this is truly the most important aspect of this entire program because without my training, I or anyone for that matter, can quickly undue all the progress, work, and confidence your dog has acquired! Kylie was so kind, so patient with me and helped me boost my confidence in myself and handling my dog. We took a long walk and she showed me the training tools and how to properly use them. She answered all my questions sometimes more than once as I was nervous and repeated my questions often!My dog that once cowered in fear in large crowds, who wouldnt stop for any command when he saw something he found valuable in eyesight was confidently walking through Chico State without fixating or chasing after things that trigger his natural prey drive!Kylie used different training styles with ME...she verbalized what she was doing, she showed me how to do it, and then let me do it under supervision...so I had hands on experience and my OWN confidence doing it before I left to go home with my now confident, obedient dog.Ive been home with my dog now for almost 24 hours. The difference in my dog is hard to put into one review! He is confident, he is obedient, he is now calm in the house, and he can spend an entire night in his kennel and actually WANT to rest there! He heels with no correction. He does not fixate on things that trouble his mind, and when he is nervous, he now looks to me to handle the situation every time. Training is now fun instead of frustrating for us both. I have been provided all the tools I need both in a gift bag upon leaving and verbally from my instructor Kylie to continue flourishing with my dog.When I see the ease and calmness in my dog now my eyes swell from gratitude. Ridgeside K9 saved my dog’s life.My dog has a severe bite history. In 2021 I took him to a board & train when I was living out of state. They took my money but kept my dog locked up the majority of the day. He didn’t receive any real training. It was a complete waste. In 2023 I took him to a different board & train and again was up front with the problems he has. My dog ended up biting the trainer when she did something I specifically told her he is uncomfortable with. He was kicked out of training and since then I’ve been managing as best as I could. A couple months ago he bit me again. I decided that I was going to make one final attempt to help him.Im not a dog behaviorist or a trainer or anything of the sort. But I’ve read and researched enough to know that my dog WAS able to be helped. I knew that he was a smart and silly dog, but he was also fearful of everything and constantly in a worried/scared/terrified state of mind. He is not a bad dog. He is a scared and confused dog. He needed guidance and structure that I wasn’t able to give him.My dog received more valuable training in the first 10 minutes with Rich than he has ever had in the past. My dog was happy to be learning, working and training with a professional. I was shocked to see my dog joyfully interacting with a stranger, something he’s never done. In just a few sessions with Rich my dog is happier and more willing to engage with me. He wakes up engaged and looks forward to training. He appears so much less stressed, less worried because they not only trained him, they also trained me. Im better able to guide and lead my dog. My dog was so fearful and reactive to so many stressors… He’s now become more confident and controlled as Rich was able to describe and pinpoint things I would never have been able to figure out on my own.My dog will never be a dog I will trust off leash. He will never be a dog that can be around children. I can’t take him to many public places because it is overwhelming for him. He will never be that perfect dog on Instagram. But that’s okay, he’s my dog. I now feel comfortable with him in my home again. We can share space and and enjoy things together. He’s my best friend again. As we continue to train at Ridgeside, I know my relationship with my dog will continue to improve and that we will be able to build many more memories together.I can’t recommend Rich and Ridgeside K9 enough. They literally saved my dog’s life.

I made the decision to send my Mini Australian Shepherd to Ridgeside K9 NorCal because of the reviews and great outcomes. Daisy is full of energy and needed to learn basic obedience and recall. While Daisy was at her 3 Week Board & Train, I received weekly updates on her progress as well as pictures. Before Ridgeside, she was a squirly girl, only focused on what she wanted to do. Now she is focused on the person in charge of the lead and will perform when asked. All the staff were great and I was very secure in knowing that they were taking care of my dog like I would. Shout out to Elissa and all the trainers involved in her training. You did a fantastic job. I highly recommend Ridgeside K9 Chico. I am not a local and made the long trip to them….it was totally worth it!!

Jamie did an excellent job of training Poppy, our 3-month-old Bernedoodle, at his home in a family environment. It was a two-week training session. Poppy is a well behaved, changed puppy! We just finished our follow-up date at six months and everything was great! I highly recommend Ridgeside K9 and Jamie.

I had a great experience today with Rich at RidgesideK9. It was very exciting to finally have confidence to learn how to help my Pup be successful. He was so informative and very patient in his teaching techniques. I can understand how some of us dog owners can confuse our dogs. We have certain expectations of our dogs but we are not teaching them correctly. I have a lot to learn and homework to work on and hopefully I can be consistent and learn quickly to correct unwanted behaviors so my pup, George can thrive, be confident, and mindful of his position in this world. 4 Week Board and TrainWe adopted our (9 month)puppy Luna, a petite girl Husky. We did not know much of her background when we first got her at 4 months. The previous family were trying to re-home her as soon as possible. They didn’t disclose much information but that she was a sweet dog.Indeed she was a sweet dog and we were dealing with a high energy, stubborn and nibbling puppy. She wanted to pull for every walk, easily distracted, jumping on people and wanted to play with our two cats at home. The cats did not want to play with her. Luna would have high anxiety in her wired crate and even slobber herself. We even would struggle to get luna in her crate, a constant who can outsmart each other first. We also discovered with time that luna had issues with resource guarding her bone treats and soon her food. Luna had a lot of learning to do.We were a little fur family of in need of help to set Luna for success and ourselves to have the tools to have our obedient dog and sweet dog that we know she can be.Luna attended the 4 week board and train and they worked so hard with the issues we were struggling with Luna. I couldn’t thank Kylie and the whole Ridgeside K9 team enough. We were so impressed and happy when we saw Luna. She would heel and no longer pull on the walks. Luna does amazing with place and waiting until we tell her to get off. We are also impressed with recall. She is a stubborn girl and when we would call her previously she would not listen. A huge 180 seeing her come on command. Also helped us greatly with the resource guarding issue that we had. Since luna has been back home from her class, we have not seen this issue since. Also happy to see Luna go in and leave her crate on our command. The cats at home feel more comfortable walking around Luna and living civil together. We are super happy and working hard everyday with the foundations they provided Luna.Thank you so much again Kylie and Ridgeside K9 Team! We took our highly reactive dog that also needed leash manners and general obedience, and they definitely did not disappoint.I was a little wary on if it would really work with how crazy he was…well miracles happen and it worked!!We got back a totally different dog than what we dropped off, and we couldn’t be any happier!!!I would HIGHLY recommend using Ridgeside if you have a dog that needs work, whether it’s for individual at-home lessons or you do the board & train.

Ridgeside K9 is incredible! They had a HUGE impact on our dog. She could not go for a walk without having a barking, fearful meltdown (shes a German Shepherd Mix). I’ve been researching board & train locations for quite some time now. I’ve always been hesitate about board and train because of having to leave my babies with strangers and that makes me worry. I knew I needed help and I knew others who have recommended Ridgeside.I have a 2 year old male shepherd and 3 year old female lab mix. I signed up both of my pups for the 4 week board and train. Baltos main issue was leash reactivity and needing more confidence building. Sky needed obedience and confidence building. Since the first day of dropping them off I knew that I could trust them. When Todd gave me a tour I noticed that everything was clean and well kept. The whole team was very nice and ensured me that they would be ok.Elissa was my main point of contact and she made sure to send updates weekly. She updated me right away when they had diarrhea. They conduct weekly wellness checks and weigh pups to make sure they are healthy. They wash their bowls, give them baths, disinfect their kennels, and go at the right pace for the pup.When I picked up my pups I was very impressed on their progress. Kylie and Elissa took their time explaining everything. Even after I took them home they let me text them with any questions. I know how busy they are but they still made time to respond to all my questions! One very important thing is to continue training and providing structure to your pup so that you maintain the training and make more progress. Don’t expect to not do anything because then your pup will forget everything. I put in the work and saw major progress.About a month later Elissa and Kylie drove all the way from Chico to me for a follow up lesson. I’m about 4 hours away from Ridgeside. They were absolutely amazing and took our training to the next level which was off leash! They also gave me the confidence that I needed to lead my pups towards success. I was able to have my dogs off leash with other neutral dogs and recall them back to me. I was able to walk by other dogs with Balto and he didn’t react.They gave me the tools and knowledge to be successful. I never ever thought that I would be able to have my dogs off leash or walk by other dogs so close. I know we still have more work to do but I’m committed to training and getting better. I feel more confident as a leader for my pups and am willing to do more with them.Overall my experience with Ridgeside K9 was 10/10. I highly recommend to anyone that needs help. Special shoutout to Kylie and Elissa for all the work they’ve done. I truly don’t trust any other place. If I lived closer I would continue with weekly lessons. I learned so much and am so happy that I finally did it.

Wow! I cant say enough about Ridgeside K9 NorCal. We got a deaf puppy who had some difficult behavioral issues. Our puppy would attack and bite us. It was so bad that we reached out to Ridgeside K9 NorCal as a last resort. Thankfully, we worked with Kylie, and we was able correct the behaviors and improve our control over our puppy. We are so glad we didnt give up on our baby, and got help from Ridgeside K9. Thank you Kylie and the rest of the Ridgeside team!

Have you ever felt immobilized by lack of knowledge regarding how to effectively communicate with your dog(s)? We sure did, and sometimes we still do, but with the training both our dogs had at Ridgeside with their committed trainers, those anxious feelings have subsided. In retrospect, adding a puppy to our pack after the loss of our 15-year-old dog a year ago may not have been the wisest decision, but we did, and doing that exposed that we needed help. We lacked leadership and dog-training skills.After a consultation, Ridgeside suggested that our 9-year-old dog participate in a 3-week board and train program and later that our puppy participate in the 2-week, day- training program for puppies. Both our dogs gained confidence and security in their respective programs while we gained tools and confidence in ourselves to employ what we learned to live in harmony and have more fun together! We also learned that many of the initial “problems” we dealt with weren’t because of the dogs themselves at all–the problems were with the US as their owners, and as in most relationships, developing effective communication skills is a work in progress that takes daily practice.What is wonderful is that after your dog goes through training with Ridgeside, the trainers are available and approachable for further questions or concerns, so you truly gain a supportive community! And you can board your dog there and know that they are in the best of hands. I don’t know how to thank Ridgeside K9 NorCal enough for what you and your crew did. It’s almost as if you rewired our very fearful and aggressive dog somehow to create a confident and happy dog. He is doing so good. He understands that whoever we let in the house, friends family, etc. is NOT a threat anymore. He used to growl and bite and run away from most people coming in the house. What a disappointment Ridgeside K9 has turned out to be!!I brought my very traumatized and skiddish German Shephard to them at the age of 6 months because they came highly recommended.They were able to help me with my dog and she has made so many positive changes due to their help and MY hard work.Fast forward two years and I just got a 2nd Gernan Shepherd puppy.The owner, Rich Hartman, not only told me to my face a few years ago that I should not get another dog but when I wanted to sign the new puppy up for training at Ridgeside in Chico, Rich once again contacted me, and in no uncertain terms blatantly told me not to get another dog!I told Rich that I was well aware of his opinion that I shouldnt get another dog but that the decision had nothing to do with him.He recontacted me again, listing all the reasons why I shouldnt get another dog.I was absolutely flabbergasted by Richs audacity to try to control my decision to get another dog with heavy handed tactics.I have lost ALL RESPECT for Rich Hartman and Ridgeside K9.I was once a very loyal customer that spent thousands of dollars with them and touted them to anyone who would listen.Now I will be telling everyone who will listen what a Power Trip Rich is on and how he thinks he can control others decisions because he thinks his opinion is the end all, be all.New Clients beware!!

When I brought up some concerns to our vet, Ridgeside was the only place they recommended. And now, I understand why!!We picked up Nike, our 2 year old Siberian Husky, from a 4 week board and train and I can not express how impressed we are!!We sought out help to combat her innate stubbornness, an unwillingness to listen, and essentially, basic discipline and obedience.Completely blown away on the amount of skills they were able to instill in her in just a short 4 weeks. What a wonderful group of trainers! I volunteer a lot and work with rescue dogs, trying my hardest to get them ready for adoption. When issues come up that are beyond my skill level, I trust nobody more than Ridgeside K9 NorCal!The classes I have taken in the past were top notch, and their results speak for themselves! If you are looking around for dog trainers, you won’t find better people then those are ridgeside. We sent our 7 year old pit mix, Boon, to a 5 week board and train. He had started to show some reactive and aggressive behaviors that seemed like they were getting worse and worse. The staff at ridgeside talked to us at length, answered all our questions, and made the process so much easier. When it came to dropping Boon off, again Rich answered all of our questions. I was dreading the moment our dog would see us leaving, but he literally didn’t even turn around or acknowledge us because he was already so locked in with Rich. We got weekly updates and videos about his progres from Kylie who was amazing. And Boon did so well he got to come home a week early, when Ridgeside could’ve easily kept him the 5th week along with our money. About a year and half ago, we left out 2 Great Danes and Newfoundland for boarding. We were charged above the negotiated rate but just paid as nothing was said other then they had issues with our dogs. Almost a year later we called to repeat the same boarding and were told that we were banned as our dogs ruined the kennel. Maybe that was the excess fee? What bothered me the most was this was a conversation that should have taken place at pick up and as a trainer this was the perfect opportunity to sell training. But it was a blindside a year later.***The owner of the company called after my review and we were able to walk through the process. The charges were all requested on my end and the owners were unaware of us being told that we were no longer welcome there and offered a discount for future boarding as a part of the apology

4 WEEK BOARD & TRAINWe sent our 7 month old bully mix puppy to Kacey and Jason from Ridgeside K9 NorCal, and couldn’t be happier.We felt so comfortable leaving our dog with them. We could tell immediately how much they cared for dogs, and they were so warm and understanding.They came to pick up our dog, and we sent her off with all her favorite things. Wow, where to even beginFirst, let me start by saying Ridgeside K9 Norcal changed our lives in all the best possible ways.To give you all some background information, we have a 17-month-old Pitbull named Jax in our care since he was just seven weeks old. During his first 17 months, we made one significant move from living with my parents to getting our place, backtracking to even before the big move; Jax slowly starting showing anxiety and aggression. These behaviors included snapping at people who tried to take toys away, having panic attacks anytime we would go outside of the house, including (going on walks and car rides). Saying my dog was afraid of the world would be an understatement. The anxiety and aggression grew even worse once we got settled into our new apartment. He was so fearful of even going outside to use the bathroom that the number of accidents he had inside increased. Taking him out on a leash to use the restroom was always a very challenging situation. he would use a very high-pitched bark/scream and continued to pull himself until he was back in front of our apartment door. His aggression peaked when my boyfriend attempted to remove a toy that he had broken up into pieces. Upon trying to remove the toy from him is when Jax bit his first human.The days following the incident were very stressful and very heartbreaking. We questioned ourselves as dog owners and asked what kind of life we could give our dog if these were the types of behaviors he would continue to present. That’s when we found Ridgeside K9 Norcal. We signed him up for the 4-week board and train program. Setting him up with his program was an easy process. Everyone I spoke with was professional, polite, and reassuring. Fast-forwarding to our pick-up day when we met Jason (our trainer) and his wife, Kasey. They came to us to get Jax safely from our apartment to their own private home for his four weeks of training.I can’t say enough good things about the fantastic work that Jason and his wife did with my dog. Not only did they train tirelessly with him every single day, but they kept me in the loop the entire time and loved having him there. It became abundantly clear that they were passionate about what they were doing with him. Although four weeks was a long time to be without my dog, Jason and Kasey were terrific at sending pictures or videos or answering any silly questions I may have had at the time. After four weeks, Jason and his wife came to do a private session with me. I could tell within the first five minutes that I was dealing with a different dog. My dog learned so much from them while away, and the improvements only continued as the days went by. they made my boyfriend and I better dog owners and made it so much easier to understand how to listen to my dogs cues to understand his needs better. We adopted Bosa, our Shepherd Malinois, who was found in a field eating tomatoes. He was just about 5 months old when we picked him up, and took him directly to Ridgeside K9 in Chico. June 2021 I adopted a 2 year old that was scared of life. Six months of having her and we still could not even put a Leash on her without the alligator roll happening that would last what seemed like an eternity. And she would not walk around at all, if we were home. So I ventured out to find a trainer. Some say she was feral. No one knows but she was scared of all humans. Luckily she is very sweet, not scared in a aggressive way. And she LOVES other dogs!However, I could not find anyone willing to even come touch her, meet her, be in the same room with her etc. I needed/wanted a trainer that would take her on as if they were their own and really Care about her. That’s when I found Ridgeside k9 NorCal. Inquired a few times with a very nice lady named Aubrey. I had a million questions as I was worried about taking her there and making her sacredness even worse. But luckily I spoke with Rich too (owner/trainer/miracle worker) and he eased all my worries and we both decided it was worth a try.To make a long story short, she can now walk on a leash amazingly, she comes into rooms In the house with us, she goes into the back yard, we even took her camping! I had an unexpected foster (Malinios) who had zero manners and no training. She would chase cars, bark at cleaning supplies, couldn’t walk on a leash, was not potty trained and would get into it with other dogs. Highly recommend! We sent our dog, Frank, for two weeks training in the day class, and we could not have guessed the dog he turned into! Frank is a black German Shepherd and went into training with little-to-no manners, and we needed help because he was a big boy and hard to control - 10 months and 85lbs! Rich, Jeremy and the rest of the trainers were absolutely incredible. Although they clearly had other dogs in training and/or boarding, they treated us and Frank as if we were their only clients each day. They introduce their dogs in training to a variety of real-world settings - field trips to local businesses, restaurants and walks and bike rides through busy downtown Chico - it has made a huge difference when we take Frank out to be social. We have continued to take our 13 year old daughter with Frank to the weekly drop-in classes and not only does Frank continue to excel, the trainers work closely with our daughter as his handler and she has learned so much and absolutely loves going to dog class! The absolute best decision I made for my puppy was sending her to Ridgeside K9 for a 3 week Board and Train with Ridgeside K9 Norcal Jason/Kacey. I adopted her from the shelter in June after she was picked up as a stray. Unknown age (approximately 3-5 months) or history. I took her locally through basic obedience, however the frustration I was feeling trying to train her was not fair to her and definitely not the way to train. They were gracious enough to take a dog from the Butte Humane Society and donate their 3 week board and train program to help him get adopted. We found our dog during this process and got to adopt him during his 3 week board and train. Ridgeside was unbelievably gracious. They were quick to respond to text and phone call questions. They allowed us to come any time we wanted to see our dog. They knew we had a little one at home and worked extra on giving our dog exposure to quick movements he might see when he got to our home. Al Green, our nearly 2 year old Bassett Hound, attended the 3 week board training at RIDGESIDE. We have had many adult rescue Bassetts but never a puppy. Al was a chewing food hound. My wife and I recently added a new member to our family, Ranger. We picked up Ranger, our puppy Rottweiler, and began doing some initial socialization with him. Ranger was growing fast and by 7 months was a little over 80lbs. I quickly realized we needed some help because with such a large breed dog and having older family members and smaller children (with friends who like to visit) we needed to ensure his behavioral skills and manners were outstanding. We began to look for options for training and located Ridgeside K9 in Chico.We decided to do a 3-week board and train. This was a BIG decision because our pets are like our children, and we had never tried a program where our pup would be away from home. Plus, positive reinforcement training was essential, and we wanted to make sure that positive reinforcement was the foundation, and primary form, of training used for Ranger.We decided to move forward, and our initial contacts were Todd and Shelby. We were also able to meet and get to know the owner, Rich. All from Ridgeside were outstanding. We received consistent communication while Ranger was in training. We also received many pictures and videos that helped us while he was away. Their social media platforms were great, and we followed daily to see our pup progressing in training.After 3-weeks we were so excited when Ranger arrived home. Rich dropped Ranger off and first showed us Rangers new skills and then watched as our whole family worked through commands with Ranger. I have had many dogs throughout my life, but none have been trained like Ranger. His manners and responsiveness to commands are outstanding. He will sit or lay down on his place for an hour without any reminders, will not jump or run to the door when guests arrive, heels perfectly on walks and bike rides, and comes when called. I believe this was the best investment we could have made for his future because in addition to his responsiveness to commands when downtown or on walk and other dogs are going crazy (barking uncontrollably, whining, or whatever) Ranger is totally under control and their bad behavior doesnt transfer to him. They did an excellent job on desensitizing him to distractions when out and about.Ranger has been home for a few weeks now and he continues to respond with the same level of responsiveness as when he was brought home. He gets it and we appreciate it!Outstanding job by Ridgeside K9 and thank you Todd (for answering all the calls and being so helpful), Shelby (for all the updates and excellent training), and Rich (for all your support and, most importantly, owning and operating such a top-notch dog training facility).

We made the decision to send our 2 dogs off for board and train with Rich and his Team earlier this year. We brought in a second dog to the family a year or two earlier and the household and family dynamics fell apart. We needed help getting back on track and learning how to properly parent 2 dogs vs. 1. I am so glad we found Ridgeside! We have a golden retriever who had some behavioral issues and needed to work on his manners. Once we did our research and decided to go with Ridgeside they were very communicative and great with answering all the questions I had. They actually got us with a trainer who was closer to our location. We got in touch with Maddie (our trainer) and we decided to go with the 4 week board and train. Maddie was knowledgeable and clear on what and how she would be training Sammy. We reached out to Ridgeside K9 NorCal in June 2021 looking for a board and train program for our 13-week old puppy. As first time dog owners, we really needed help with basic training. Ridgeside partnered us up with Gregg and Candace and the rest is history. Gregg and Candace drove to our house and picked Ranger up for a three-week board and train in their home. Ranger came home mastering basic commands, walking politely on leash with less barking and pulling, and happier than when he left! I cannot say enough about the trainers that I got to work with, Greg and Candace. I have a very high energy border collie, lab mix. She is three years old with a ton of energy and is very easily distracted. Greg and Candace worked with her and I am truly amazed at what they were able to do. We have had 2 dogs go through different training programs. Both are rescue dogs so we didnt know their prior histories. The younger one did the day training and currently does doggie daycare. After a couple of times at daycare we realized she needed more training to deal with her anxiety and help her confidence. We had no idea what to expect when we first called Rich, we had a young healer puppy named Barley who was more than we knew what to do with. Not only did Rich work with Barley to create a pup who was able to walk correctly, recall, interact with other people and dogs... he worked with us (probably more so!) and he made us feel confident, capable and aware of how to handle working with our puppy safely, lovingly and effectively.Not only was Rich there for us when Barley was alive, he was there for us when she tragically and unexpectedly passed away. Every experience with Chico Dog has been STELLAR! I take my dog to obedient classes, one on one training for specific lessons, puppy social, day care and grooming. My only regret is not starting my puppy younger! The obedience classes are especially great. I learned more tools in the first class, than a whole series at other places. The staff is friendly and helpful. The pricing is very reasonable. I especially appreciate that it is indoors for the cold rainy winter days and hot Chico days. I know that my dogs are safe. Both of my dogs get very excited when they get out of the car and go straight for the door. They even greet the staff and are excited to be there.

We recently adopted a 3 yr. old female Lab/Golden Retriever. She has a great personality and is wonderful to be with, but she had a few obedience issues that we wanted addressed. A close friend highly recommended Ridgeside K9.Even though the Ridgeside facility is 2hs. from us, the recommendation was so encouraging that we made an appointment.As soon as we met Jaclyn and Rich Hartman, we knew that we had made the right decision. Chicodog is a great place to socialize your puppy, and the training is truly life-saving. Taking the basic dog obedient class with our old dog (10) first, and our new puppy later changed our life for the better. Dina spends time with you showing you how to be a good pet parent. It was money well spent and my dogs are no longer difficult or not welcome in places. I have tried several trainers around Chico and Dina is the best. While they dont have a ton of products the ones they have are good quality and well-priced. I highly recommend them!

Clean, safe environment for our dog, she has a wonderful time when she goes there. How do I know? She eats all the food we leave for her, and she is exhausted from playing all day. Will check into their training programs, but Im very happy, they have great people there who truly love animals. Also very organized, with texts about what time we check in and out. We have mini schnauzers that are brothers, one well behaved, and one which has been behaviorally challenged since the beginning (although both are very well spoiled by my husband and I) I never envisioned that we could have a non-stressful walk with our boys, but Rich and the trainers have been amazing at re-educating us and our dogs. It is only our second week of day-training and already we can see amazing strides in Conor’s behavior and manners. I’m so pleased, I can’t wait to see his continued progress. Revised review. Long story short. Dont spend 3,200 $for 3 weeks private training. Do an over the weekend session at petco for way cheaper. I invest money in lots of things. This was by far my worst return on an invetmest. Waste of money. My dog was definitely not trained all day for 3 weeks straight. I basically got a 3 week babysitter.

When we rescued our puppy Kora from a bad situation, it was clear that she needed some professional help. After talking to Rdigeside, we decided to put her in the 3 week board and train program. And wow, what a difference in our dog! I admit, I was a little apprehensive about leaving my dog for three weeks, but Ridgeside assured me she would get plenty of love, and were communicative the whole time. Kora is still a puppy, but her demeanor has changed, and we get compliments about her all the time!

Chico Dog is amazing. Im one of those dog moms who doesnt trust ANYONE with my pup unless theyre family. I went in to Chico Dog in December of 2019. I met the staff & saw the facility and knew deep down that my dog would be safe there. And he was! He loved it so much that he now drags me into the facility when we pull up. I loved Chico Dog so much that I started taking the group classes with Trainer Dina. My dog is a 10 month old pit, who is incredibly stubborn. Every behavioral concern I have had, Dina has been able to guide me to fix. I wouldnt trust any other day care or trainer with my dogs! I cant recommend them enough!

We adopted a dog from Butte Humane Society. He is a cross between a Tree Walker Coonhound and an American Bulldog. Combining the nose of the Coonhound and the muscular strength of the 100 Bulldog we had our hands full when it came to taking him for walks. On leash he was literally pulling me down the pathway. And I was scared to death to let him off leash should that Hound nose take him miles away. I have been walking my dogs in Bidwell Park for 20 years and I wanted him to be able to join me, sometimes on leash and most of the time off leash.Within three sessions Becca had him trained so now he joins me to walk off and on leash with no problems. Becca is amazing and Im so happy I took him to Ridgeside!!

RidgelineK9 and their team in Chico are amazing!!! Not only do they train and board your dog bestie, they embrace you and your dog as family. My German Shepard Millie has been going to daycare, training and boarding since she was 11 months old. (6 months) The training she’s received makes walking her, taking her to restaurants or my office, and car rides so enjoyable. I’m not nervous that I won’t be able to control her - as she’s very strong and incredibly smart. I can’t say enough about how appreciative and comfortable I am to have a dog family that treats my princess with the same love she gets at home.When she is boarding and I’m away, they know it’s harder on me. They send me videos of her training or playing - which absolutely makes my day.It’s apparent she loves it too - when I cross the railroad tracks about half a mile before arriving she jumps up and starts whining with sheer excitement. They did an excellent job on my dog, hes a large breed, long hair, and was very matted, I finally resorted to a groomer because all my efforts were fruitless 😅.So fluffy, and soft! I couldnt get enough of him!Although, I probably made it on their annoying client list, Im a worrier when it comes to my boy. I kept calling trying to get clarification on his progress. ( Sorry guys...Ive actually been in your position, just never on the other side.)It was my first time taking an animal to the groomers. I was a worried mom, and my anxiety skyrocketed when I dropped him off for his 1:30 appointment, only to hear she just started working on him at 4:45. I live an hour out of town so I stayed in a parking lot. I was admittedly irritable, although it may have been my own fault.If you live in Chico, definitely utilize her, she does amazing work! The place looks a little sketchy, but they proved to be trustworthy.

I took my 2 3 1/2 yo Westies to these wonderful people. They had become COVID dogs, forgot all their training, would bark at dogs and people. They learned to walk on a loose lead. Are non reactive to other dogs. Rosie was very fearful of everything and everyone, Rich spent hours working with her, she can now go on walks and warms up to people within minutes instead of days. I have my life back, I can now take them out socially on walks, for meals, or events and travel. They are very well behaved and so am I! The drop in classes have helped immensely with reinforcing the training. I cant recommend them enough, absolutely amazing, dedicated group of people I know call friends.
