I’ve purchased and had multiple products installed on my 4Runner through Rhino Adventure Gear, including a rooftop tent, awning, and drawer system. The team there are experts on the products they offer. I know I’m getting high quality parts (since they don’t offer anything else), and I’m confident that everything will be installed correctly.What sets them apart from other shops is their customer service. Their team members will take the time to really think about what’s best for your vehicle and suggest options that best fit your needs. I’ve had other shops that don’t show that attention to detail and forethought, and they ended up installing something in a way that didn’t align with what I wanted.Highly, highly recommend going with Rhino if you’re looking for a backcountry gear shop in the San Diego area.

I had an awesome experience purchasing an iKamper Skycamp 3.0 at Rhino Adventure Gear. I procrastinated in buying the RTT until shortly before our camping trip to Joshua Tree, but Ben and Jason were still able to do the install on short notice. I am really happy with the tent installation and will be going back for an awning and other accessories. Much appreciated!

Bought a Camp King rooftop tent from Rhino Adventure Gear, and recently had it installed. From the first time I called in, the staff has been extremely helpful, responsive, and knowledgeable. Theyre the only place in the US that carries Camp King products, and their install team is experienced, careful, and top notch. A great experience working with Rhino to get my GX460 outfitted!

Amazing customer service, quality work and a great group of folks! Set up an appointment to have a roof rack installed and Cody and Jason were able to get me in earlier than planned so I could take my new Jeep Wrangler 392 and roof rack out to Overland Expo West. Bought my RLD Design canopy from these guys last week. I must say that their customer service was top notch. I would send friends and family there to buy their rooftop tents, canopy’s and over landing gear anytime. The only issue I had was that they will not install your rooftop tent if you did not purchase through them. Other than that, I am very happy with my purchase.

A few moths back, I was researching an off road camper company to help me troubleshoot an issue I was having with my high end medium sized trailer. The trailer is equipped with Redarc power management. I found that Rhino Adventure Gear is a distributor so I made an appt with Joost at Rhino. I took the trailer to him and he dropped what he was doing and immediately started to troubleshoot the issue I was experiencing. Normally when I am dealing with a company like this, I experience the normal anxiety associated with leaving a $50k overland trailer with someone I don’t know. Right from the start he relieved these thoughts by showing me how much he knows about the system and set my mind at ease. I made an appt for the repair and in anddition asked him to install bumper power from my tow vehicle to a connection at the trailer allowing me to charge batteries while driving between camping zones. When I brought it back for the repair and installation, little did I know that Jost himself was going to do the work and do exactly what he said and at the cost he quoted. When work was complete, he took the time to show me exactly what the problem was and how his reconfiguration would allow the Redarc system to operate just the way it was supposed to. Not many people can troubleshoot systems like this and I am so thankful to have found Rhino Adventure Gear. I returned a few weeks later and discussed some additional work and was so pleased that he discouraged the work as it was not a good fit for my set up. Normally, other shops would have sold it and installed regardless. This shop can be trusted, they proved it and deserve your business.

They were booked out for a few weeks, however they were able to get us in to have our tent installed a couple of days after purchasing our tent. I live in New York and after speaking to Cody about buying a rack for my roof tent I visited the Rhino Adventure Gear San Diego Showroom while on vacation there. Cody gave myself and my wife an excellent explanation of the Front Runner Slimline rack and the Ikamper roof tents. I purchased the rack and needed help installing it and safely fitting the tent onto the rack.Joost meticulously explained to me how to do the installation and sent me the applicable metal connectors to do the job. He also told me what type of tools I would need. The guys over at Rhino Adventure Gear are incredible. I was looking for a cap for my truck to add some functionality to my truck bed. I originally contacted Leer and placed an order with them. Leer lost my order for nearly 9 months and provided no explanation or updates. Ill save all the details but it is clear Leer is taking advantage of the fact that they are the only location for miles in this area and they know if people want a Leer cap they are the only option. My bad experience with the big-name cap companies made me look for something else and I found the RLD Designs cap. Rhino Adventure Gear is a reseller and I contacted them to set up an order.The difference between Rhino Adventure Gear and the other places I spoke with is night and day. These guys love the gear they sell and are stoked to talk to you about it. Cody was able to answer all my questions and seemed genuinely interested to do so. My whole ordering process was easy and straightforward--I received updates frequently and never felt like I was forgotten. Once my cap came in I was able to set up an installation appointment easily. At the time I was working remotely and Rhino Adventure Gear had a spot where I could set up my laptop and work while they installed the cap. Jason installed the cap and we did a walk around to check everything out and see if anything needed to be adjusted. Once it was installed the owner, Joost, came by and gave me some camping recommendations and some Rhino Adventure Gear stickers--definitely showing Rhino Adventure Gears dedication to making customers feel satisfied with their purchase!To no fault of Rhino Adventure Gear, my RLD cap had a defective back door gasket that began to separate from the window (something Rhino Adventure Gear did not put together and came from RLD itself). Rhino Adventure Gear communicated with RLD and purchased the adhesive needed to repair the window gasket. We had a GREAT experience with Joost at Rhino Adventure Gear. We ended up with a beautiful iKamper 2.0 4X rooftop tent and a Ghostawn 360 awning for our 2018 Jeep JLU Rubicon. Joost had good information and took all the time we needed to make a decision. We did have to wait for our iKamper to be delivered from overseas, but as soon as it arrived in the Port of Long Beach, we got regular updates from Joost regarding its progress and ultimately got a very quick installation onto the Jeep.The pricing was very fair, particularly when it came to the Ghostawn installation. its a new product and the mounting of it on our Rhino Rack Backbone System was going to take a little tweaking. Everything worked out perfectly.This is a small, owner operated shop, but the expertise and knowledge they have is priceless. Im a do-it-yourself guy and enjoy it, but sometimes you have to know your own limits. These two items are pricey no matter where you buy them, so you dont want to damage them through your own ignorance. You wont be sorry if you seek the assistance of Rhino Adventure Gear!

Very few other companies will respond to an issue like this.Additionally, great products, great knowledge and above all, Rhino Adventure Gear know how to take care of their customers - a major consideration when buying overland equipment. you might be able to save $20 or $30 on something via an online seller, but you simply wont get the customer service.Great company!

I had a new tent, awning, and rack installed on my Raptor and within three days took it on a 2,500 mile road trip to the snow. These guys did fantastic work, Jason really did a good job and cared about my truck. The team at Rhino Adventure Gear is absolutely outstanding. I had a Rhino Rack Backbone system installed on my 2020 Jeep Rubicon and also picked up a Dometic CFX3 55IM recently. Not only was the install of the rack which involved drilling the roof of my brand new Rubicon expertly done the process was fully explained to me prior to the work beginning. Joost (the owner) and Jason were very accommodating and answered all of my questions. It was clearly evident that they were both very knowledgeable and skilled. They do not stand by the products they sell. I spent > $2k on a rack. Shipping was late, delivery was late, and the rack had multiple defects. Upon reaching out for support, all they would do is give me the manufacture’s email and phone number, the same info that’s readily available online. They pass the hassle to the customer and flat out refuse to make things right. Once they have your money, you’re on your own. I guess I should’ve just bought from the manufacturer in the first place. I highly recommend finding a different source for your needs.

Just had these guys do a complete DC/DC setup on our off road trailer and Toyota FJ and it was expertly installed, explained and finished in a few hours. When you walk in the door it is perfectly obvious what a quality operation this is, low key and professional. The gear on offer is only the best: 12v fridges, racks, RTTs, recovery equipment, Goose slides, and suspensions. If you want to do it right, this is a one stop shop.

I will definitely be doing business with Rhino Adventure in the future. I heard about them through iKamper. I called iKamper with some questions, and they referred me to Rhino Adventure to go check out there product in person. When I called Rhino there was no issue getting a hold of them. We scheduled an appointment to check out the tents and when I arrived they greeted my girlfriend and I with outstanding hospitality! Cody was the associate who helped us, and he was able to answer all of our questions and give us great advice. He definitely guided us to the right product and we are super happy with our purchase! I had a custom install from these guys and I have to say I’m incredibly happy. There weren’t many options at the time for my 2 door Jeep JL as far as platforms to put my ikamper mini on but Joost gave me honest pros and cons and worked with me all the way. The install by Jason was more than I expected. I’m supper impressed with their professionalism and their customer service. 6 months later I had a small issue where I lost a clip to one of the tent brackets and I was leaving to go on a weekend trip. I called and talked to Cody he got me in that morning before I left and Jason changed out the clip and walked me through it all. I can’t say enough thanks to them both. Let me start by saying Joost is by far the best businessman I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. His professionalism and level of knowledge are extraordinarily impressive. I contacted Rhino Adventure Gear through their website and within an hour my phone started ringing with Joost on the other end. In my email, I had already explained what I was looking for so the conversation went off without a hitch. He was able to answer all of my questions and gave me a clear insight of how the equipment we would be installing would work. After that, we scheduled a time for my wife and I to go to his showroom and receive a hands on with what we wanted. As soon as we arrived, Joost invited us in as if we were old friends. Unlike many shop owners I have worked with in the past, Joost ensured that I did not buy any unnecessary items that I did not need. I purchased the iKamper and waited patiently for the call to inform me that all parts for the custom rack he had to install were in. That call came a week later and I delivered my truck to his shop for install. Like I had mentioned earlier in this review, Joosts work on my truck came out impeccable and he was also able to install the Rhino Rack Batwing. His flexibility in scheduling and attention to detail with the install was better than one could ever expect. We just purchased a James Baroud EVO tent from Joost. Our tent is mounted above the bed of our Toyota Tundra. This is not conventional method of mounting this tent. Joost was extremely helpful in assisting us with purchasing the correct mount for our tent that met our specific requirements. (We wanted to utilize our Access tonneau cover in order to keep our stuff clean and dry. We also wanted to be able to drive into our garage with the tent mounted).Through several phone calls Joost was very patient in answering our questions and giving advice.We purchased the tent and had it installed last week. We drove home from California to Mesquite, Nv and are very pleased with how the mounted tent handled. The top of the tent is lower than the cab of our truck. As a result there was virtually no road noise or wind resistance. Our fuel economy was not affected at all.I highly recommend Joost and Rhino Adventure Gear. Thanks again for helping us with our the purchase of out tent.

We just picked up our Jeep JL last night! Joost did an amazing job installing this tough to install iKamper. He worked with us over the last 8 months to find a solution that would work. His work is amazing, he is neat and conscientious and made sure it wasn’t installed until it was right. I would definitely recommend Joost for anything related to roof top tents and accessories. He walked us through the process and has a great showroom with different set ups. I was against the rooftop tent but after visiting his showroom I changed my mind. I have nothing, but great things to say. Ordered a rooftop tent via the phone to pick up at the location. Upon arriving, the team went out of their way to help us install the tent. These guys really care about their customers and know their stuff! You can tell they’re passionate and professional with their craft! Knowledgeable & honest! Weve been researching roof top tents online and wanted to see our first choice (iKamper) in person before purchasing. We found Rhino Adventure Gear through the iKamper website and happened to be in San Diego on business for a few days, so contacted Joost. He very graciously offered to meet us after hours at his San Marcos location, as we could not get there earlier. When we arrived he cheerfully gave us details about the iKamper...gave a demonstration of opening and closing his familys iKamper (which is his model)...and let me climb in to experience it. We feel he was very honest with us when answering our many, detailed questions, which we so appreciated! He also did not rush us and truly made me feel that he enjoyed answering my unending list of questions. We purchased an iKamper and Thule rack system for our Ford truck from him that evening. Well be having it installed in a couple weeks at his Richmond location, so Ill return with an update to this review then. :) Thanks, Joost, for being so professional and friendly. Rhino gears return policy is HORRIBLE, they make you pay to return and charge you a 15 percent restock fee, they take forever to get back at you as well. If you are going to use rhino gear just be careful and make sure what your going to buy you wont return unless you only want half your money refunded.

10/10 !!!! These guys rock!! Call them now if youre even considering doing any kind of upgrades and they will help answer all your questions and get you set up! I wanted the best roof rack for my needs of overlanding adventures, skiing, snowboarding, camping, offroading, etc. Went with the Rhino Rack Platform, getting more accessories from Rhino Adventure Gear as well. Extremely knowledgable, they did excellent work! I just bought a brand new Diesel Rubicon, and after 3 hard days of rain here in San Diego, not one drop of water from the Rhino Rack Install. Great workmanship and crafstmanship. Highly rated. Very Happy Customer :)

They gave me great advice and took care to sell me exactly what I needed and no more.
