The staff at the store were incredibly helpful and friendly. Cameron went above and beyond to assist me with returning my jacket. While I was looking for a vest, another staff member noticed that a Patagonia vest on sale in my size. I can’t thank the staff enough for their attentiveness. They made my shopping experience a pleasure. I highly recommend shopping here

Another amazing REI store!This is one of the largest REI stores I’ve been in. Super clean, well lit, and great staff.We were driving through town and I wanted to come to the store because I heard that they have a re-supply store next-door. We went into the relist supply store and there’s a lot that you can get there. We also came to the other store, which should be the main store, and check things out there. This is by far one of the largest sorry I said I’ve been to. First off, I wanna let you know that the bathrooms are clean, and well stocked, which is important to me. But this sure has everything that you could think of from backpacks, sleeping bags, stove, bikes, shoes, jackets, snow, equipment, and much more. There’s everything that you could want. It is REI.

In general, I love REI and I love this location extra because they have the REI co-op store right next door.Before they used to have garage sales once in a while to get rid of returned items. Now, with this co-op store, its like they always have garage sales but you dont have to wait in a long line or fight other customers for something prescious. They are used items that are mostly still in good shape at a discounted price. If youre lucky, you might get yourself a really good deal. The only thing is all sales at co-op store are final sales, no return so make sure to check your item carefully before buying it.The main REI store is much bigger though and has more selection. You just have to buy at full price. They do have the clearance section which has a big discount: you still can try it out and return if its not the right fit. Or wait until they have discount 25% (for members) off like this time. Sales ends May 29th so hurry!!You definitely should get their membership. Its worth it. Sometimes they even have special promotion to get free membership too. Keep an eye out for it :)Another great point about REI is they have 1-year return policy (even if you use it already) and very good customer service. I feel safe buying from REI knowing if its not right for me, I can return it.

Spent 90 minutes in the store today trying to get somebodys attention, and I failed. The staff just doesnt care anymore. Thats why REI is doing so poorly. It was always a good store, where you could talk to real humans. Now, its better to just buy from Amazon. I wanted to buy REI backpack for crying out loud! Sure, its a sale week, but they know months in advance, and could make sure the staffing is at least adequate.They still have some good things. But you need to be very assertive to get anywhere. I was always a huge REI advocate and spent thousands of dollars there, even when my friends often claimed its expensive, but I cant support them any longer. Its a sad day, for REI to reach this level.

I feel that I would never go back to this store again. It’s not an inviting place, at all. They have a lot of nice camping gear and all but it’s a dark store it’s not polished and bright. Salesperson did not ask if I needed help. It’s not very tidy. Things kind of shoved in places. It looks old and not updated. Since I’m not into all the outdoor items they had, this was not a pleasant experience for me. I would order online.

Ordered an item 3 days prior. Was never notified of anything drove 30 minutes to the store only to be told by the pick up workers that my item is not in stock when it said it was and that I would recieve the item at a later date which to them is totally unknown and was told I will get my item when I get it. As I am driving away I get an email saying my order has been canceled for no apparent reason. So disorganized! Why did it say my item was in stock and ready for pick up in a few hrs only to be let down 3 days later. What a waste of time and gas.

For a while now, Ive always liked the products and philosophy behind REI. However, today deserves a shutout: I purchased a bike for my son and was extremely impressed with Marks attention to detail. Mark (who was working in the Bike Shop) was able to work with my son (and I) in helping to find the best solution that would suit our family, while anticipating potential issues and ways to work around. There are two types of people in the world: The ones who love REI, and the ones whose opinion you cant trust! ;) This is a lovely store. A little cramped in the clothing section, but otherwise great merchandising. I particularly recommend the bikes section. Also, 70% of REIs profits are donated to the outdoor community.

Came in looking for a shirt for Wifey but they were out of stock on her size so we went to the customer department. The lady behind the counter had an attitude because we wanted her to order one for us and have it shipped to the store. She told us they were completely out of her size in the color wifey wanted and only had one in lavender gray. So wifey said ok order it. “Customer service” credit card please. “Me” I want to pay cash “customer service” you can’t pay cash, you need to buy a gift card and pay that way. “Me” What??!! Ok what ever. “Customer service” it should be here in 6 days “with an attitude” “me” ok thank you.2 hours later I received an e-mail stating my wife’s shirt is in “whaaat?” As I looked at the e-mail I noticed it was the wrong color and wrong size.. argh just shoot me. I called customer and spoke with Andy “nice guy” told him everything that happened “even he was confused” after A lengthy conversation he stated that the color that my wife originally wanted was in fact in a bunch of other stores and he could get it for me in her size with no problem. He then said can I please have your credit card # so I can order it for you? “Me” what!!!?? I paid for it already!! “Him” what? It’s not entered in our computer. “Me” I got the receipt. “Him” let me look deeper in another computer, I’ll call you back in 10. 10 minutes later phone rings “him” Mr. Henry I got you squared away you should get the shirt by the end of next week. “Me” thank you Andy.I’m giving Andy 5 stars!!But that other lazy Azz!! Brought my skis in for tuning at REI Saratoga, the ski shop technician refused to work on them because the GripWalk mark on the bindings was worn out. (Ski boots have GW soles) Even after showing him the original binding purchase receipt and photos I took when they’re still new with the stamp, the technician still didn’t want to work on them. What an absolute joke!!! The same binding/boot combination had been done multiple times at different branches and other shops with no problem.

I’m sad because I like REI but I felt so dismissed by staff when I asked for help. I just felt bad about myself (and a little pathetic). It’s a nice store but I wish I was helped well. I’m sure other ppl who were helped like it here, but I’ll go elsewhere next time. Let’s say it’s a bad sales experience today for me.

Great store. Fun to shop here. I usually get presents for others here and add items to my wish list when roaming the aisles. Friendly service and great selection of all things comfortable and fun if you like the outdoors. I usually get my shoes here and all my pants. They carry Kuhl that makes super comfortable and durable clothes. Plenty of parking. They offer a rewards program for 10% of all purchases. Watch for coupons in the mail for expensive items. Highly recommend.

Clothing and equipment co-op (membership optional) for outdoor recreation pursuits with a service department for bikes and skis. Camping, backpacking, climbing, running, and hiking are all well-represented here.Next door is a large space for regear, which is REIs version of reselling used goods that have been returned. Selection varies as does condition, so check carefully for damage before buying.

My friend just got me into rock climbing/bouldering. I was actually recommended by several people (friends and even random people at the gym) to go to rei to buy my shoes for climbing. When I first arrived I saw Mark organizing the shoes. He was very patient and helped me with the sizing and gave me great tips on finding the best fitting shoe. I ended up going with the black diamond (they look amazing). Best part is, they were on sale! I got them for $70 instead of the original $90+! Matt, another employee was also very helpful when I was picking a chalk bag. However, I decided to just buy one on amazon since there were more designs and it was cheaper online. Anyhow, Matt and Mark were awesome!

I wandered into the real side of the store as well as the outlet (Friday-Sunday) side of REI today. We unexpectedly found some good child sized Keen hiking boots that had been returned. Fit great, and it was a decent price. Thanks to Michael who worked with us in detail on figuring out the backpack that would fit an 11 year old. He was knowledgeable and patient. Really appreciate the customer service.

Had my used bike serviced here and very satisfied with the service and got my REI membership. Came here the second time without an appointment and solved the flat tire issues very quick for free. The staff here are very friendly and helpful, I would always love to come here.

Honestly this visit to the store will be my last. Since REI shifted so much of their business to their website, the stores have kind of become an afterthought. Obviously I don’t expect a brick and mortar store to hold anything near the kind of merchandise of a website, but the store is really starved for products. The shelves are half empty or bare and very messy—there is just stuff everywhere. Men’s and women’s clothes are mixed together, the bicycle department is a disaster and there are hardly any shoes left. The worst part is that nothing has a price tag on it. Honestly almost nothing, and there are no employees to help. If one finds an employee they have to go to the register to scan the item since they don’t have portable scanners. I resorted to using an app on my phone that scans barcodes and then scrapes the web for prices. Often prices for the exact same product were different in the store versus the website or even cheaper on Amazon. Even the employees were using their personal phones to find products on their own website! In the camping department items were missing parts or broken. Even the lighting was bad. In one area it was dark but in another I was blinded by a hot spotlight. Since there are not enough employees the lines are long. At this point, the store is only good for maybe sitting on a bike. Everything else just buy online. REI needs to do their employees a favor and pump massive dollars to improve the store or close the store and transfer the employees to the web division. I don’t want anyone to lose their job. Such a shame.

I spoke with a total 5 staff members (the greeter at the door, 3 people at the rental area, and a backpacking backpack staff member) in one visit and found them all difficult from which to get information or help. The staff at REI in Sunnyvale is far more helpful. The staff in the Sunnyvale store is more mature and provides customer service.

REI is wonderful! I have been dabbling with the idea of backpacking for a while but didnt know how to start. Kim (170354) was super helpful! Although I was initially asking about a tent, our conversation went on talking about other things I would need to think about including the sleeping bag, mat, backpack, etc. She gave me tons of advice on what I should think about before even making a large purchase and suggested different resources online as well as recommended smaller outdoor activities before diving in. She was so helpful, didnt pressure me in one way or another, and was really knowledgeable. Ill do a little more reading and hiking before I come back to make my purchases once Im ready.The other associates were also very wonderful but I didnt happen to catch their names.

First time visiting a REI store. My husband and I are very casual hikers but we were looking to get out of the house more often. I figured getting a quality pair of boots was a good place to start.The staff at this REI store was super knowledgeable and helpful. They asked about our situation and what it was that we were looking for. Based on that they gave us a couple shoes and boots to try out. They even taught me different knots to better tie my laces and prevent all sorts of issues during hikes.At no point did I feel pushed into buying gear. All their staff was just super friendly and helpful.10/10 recommend this store to anyone. They also seem to have a huge array of products to choose from.

Its a great store unless you need to buy shoes. If you do, go to the Sports basement where they have all their inventory accessible so you can try it on right away. In REI you have to wait for an assistant to bring you each and every size, and there is usually just one person helping a dozen customers at a time, so it takes forever.

Store is beautiful! Very well kept, organized and a wide variety of merchandise to shop from, my husband and I came in today to purchase a Thule roof box, I’ll preface by stating we are traveling through the area from SoCal and really needed a cargo box for our overburdened car that’s packed with a months worth of travel necessities. We were concerned initially that there would be an issue unboxing the item in the store since we have nowhere to dispose of the large cardboard box said item comes in. The staff members (I wish I remembered their names) came up with a plan, within minutes had it unboxed, helped us carry it to our vehicle and placed it on our roof. The customer service here is just above and beyond, staff members were so kind and polite. Highly recommend this REI location, we will definitely return!

After a miscommunication with the Sacramento REI location regarding the return of rental equipment to the Saratoga location, Josh, the manager of the Saratoga REI store and his associate Landon were very accommodating in working with the Sacramento store to ensure my rental equipment was shipped back to the proper Sacramento location. I am now aware that you CANNOT return rental equipment from one location to another. The customer service at REI continues to outshine its competitors and will continue to be my first choice for rental equipment or new equipment in the future.

I wanted to write this review for Andrew that works in the Saratoga REI.I brought a few camping chairs on REI.com on July 4th sale. They were supposed to arrive on July 8th for camping trip leaving July 9th. Found out there was a delay at 8:30pm, where am I going to find 3 camping chairs when all the stores are closing soon? I called the closest REI store to me, and Andrew picked up and told me he will take care of me. I finished the call at 8:45pm and tried to get to store before it closed at 9pm.Andrew was standing at the door when I arrived, because he was worried I get there a bit late and his colleagues closed the doors on me. What a warm and kind gesture, then he told me there is one kind of chair that had a lot of stock, even though it was more expensive than the type I brought, he still marked it down for me so it matches with the sale price I brought it for. He carried all 3 chairs in the store, and asked me if I need help delivering to the car. He walked me out of the store and told me some tips about the camping site I am going.He was so willing to help, and understanding, thinking from my perspective. Amazing customer service!! He totally sold me and have my trust, I will be buying everything in the Saratoga REI from now on in support of his awesomeness!

Google reviews caught me at a ripe moment. Generally, my experience at this REI is hit or miss. I typically know what I want, so I get it and leave. But its moments like today, when I have to engage with staff I experience frustration. Fact is, my experience is similar to typical being brown in Silicon Valley and not being a techie. Im ignored unless they irrationally believe Im sus. I feel like Im bothering them when I ask for help after waiting for a bit of time. My encounter with the cashier was abrasively unpleasant (which seems like more the norm than not). They werent busy. There was no line. But I sure feel rushed out. Basically, REI is a place to fake that you haole to belong there. But it has a better selection of certain things (and closer) than the alternative but maybe I should just reconsider that efficiency isnt the issue.

Great store and even better service. They have everything you need for the outdoors as well as biking. Im a lifetime member but I havent been in forever. Not only did they have the somewhat obscure bike parts did I need to get a dead bike back in service, but the guy went the extra mile and spent about 10 minutes finding my old membership and restoring it to me by updating my information. I think I bought $19 in miscellaneous parts at a store where people often drop hundreds, but I got the same level of attention and help. Great job guys 👏

My last 3 attempts to buy something here have all been met with no inventory. Ignore their website, the information is wildly inaccurate. I am unsure the purpose of the physical store if the staff are so frequently telling me I can order online. Unless you are standing in the store, and holding the actual product in your own hands, then assume its not in inventory.

The folks working here are so nice and helpful. I had no success to get a fitting appointment at helm and I went to get a ski boot fitting with Mark here and we found a great fit. Many things to love about REI! I really like the atmosphere inside the store - it makes me want to stay in there forever! I also really like the staff there, and if you ever need help determining what to buy, theyre always really eager to help. Its always a pleasure to shop there! They also have really nice garage sales, where they have a 70-80% off sale behind the store selling returned gear. They dont do it as often anymore, but its great when they do. Overall, great store!

Ive liked going to REI as long as I can remember, the store is well stocked, its easy to find what your looking for throughout the whole store. Ive always stopped by the hiking trail maps and book areas to see whats new before meandering through the backpack area, can never have too many day packs! Staff is pretty friendly and most of them can answer your questions on the spot. Being a REI member helps you out on deals and dividends so dont forget to ask about becoming one.

I stopped by to pick up a snow jacket. I saw a deal online and it said it is available in store, only to realize they usually do not put out stuff unless you actually push through the order. No issue.I was welcomed at the entrance and the gentleman guided me to the jacket section. I waited for some help but no one showed up. I ended up picking up a Patagonia jacket which turned out great at the slopes. A bit pricey but totally worth it.Lastly I would suggest them to make more cashiers available as the checkout line builds up. For example have self checkouts or have the entrance gentleman open up new counters. My cashier was super friendly and was out in less than 30 sec.

I dont like write a negative review. However, I feel like I have to.. because I was humiliated at Customer Service area. So, today, I returned a shirt and a pant that I purchased two months ago and wore it once because they didnt keep bugs away. I even washed them and made sure they were clean and nice when I returned them. The Customer Service clerk lectured on returning too many things while many people were waiting behind me. He was threatened me that my REI membership might be cancelled. After he processed my return, he told me that my this year return rate is 100%. I told him that this was not true because I purchased some camping gears and bug spray. He checked and acknowledged. Then, he said, still, your return rate is still 100%. I didnt feel like arguing with him. But, in my mind, I was wondering what I did wrong. I didnt wait for A YEAR to return. I washed them and made sure they were nice and clean. He still accused me of my returning rate is 100% even though he acknowledged that I did purchase REI stuff here and there.

Had terrible experience with the backpack fitting service. They have a form to put on all the waiting people and I put on my name on the list. However they didnt serve people in the order of the list and at least two party who arrived later got ahead of me. And finally a guy came to help me. He sent me to walk around the store with the backpack and after I came back, he COMPLETELY ignored me, no follow up at all. Another lady who also helpz with backpack fitting told him that his customer, which is me, has come back. He just said I know and not a word for me to explain why I have to wait again. Great customer service from Kathy today. My husband and I decided to wait until she finished with other 2 customer because of her amazing customer service and knowledge in the running shoes dept. The store is pretty massive and has a great selection of basically anything. Its interesting just too look around. Any time Ive come here for say a backpack or some travel needs theyve had several options to choose from. Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable, they generally seem confident and interested in what is in the store. The three stars come in because the prices are very high for almost anything. They tend to stock well known brand names (think North Face) and you are definitely paying for the retail location here. Overall a decent store but you can definitely find better deals.

I bought a pair of Darn Tough socks for an international trekking trip. After 4 or 5 days of trekking the socks started socks began thinning. Shortly later a hole appeared. REI has a 1 year return policy so I can just exchange them when I return to the US, right? FALSE. It seems the return policy covers returns of unused products. Just like nearly every other business. Whats the point of paying the REI premium? I have exchanged one item in my years of shopping at REI. Well unless they are cheaper than everyone else, I am not shopping here again.What is the point of shopping here when Decathlon has similar quality, cheaper prices, and will actually refund you when a product. I bought an item from Decathlon in India and returned it Hungry. I cant return a defective product to the REI branch I bought it from! Really poor sales experience today at Saratoga that shocked us. Id gone in early in the day to look at bikes for my wife. Met with two really nice sales people and identified a bike that was a customer return and available at a discount. Generally, a positive experience. Recently, not so good. Employees feel that they need to prioritize themselves over the customer. One such example is when I asked for help, the younger female employee decided to walk away, finish what she was doing (putting hangers back) before she could give me two seconds of her time. I found this interesting and asked “is everything okay?” — really just wanting her attention for the location of a product. She said she was “rushed.” I’m sorry but they are hangers, what is the rush with hangers that you need to walk away from for 20ft before answering a question?She pointed me in the direction of “camping” and said someone else may be able to help me. As I walked away, she went over to another employee and decided to talk about her day, joking and laughing.I never did find what I was looking for so I ended up buying it somewhere else.Ok, so two seconds for the customer, making me feel awkward for bothering you because you’re stressed and need to put hangers back, and all the time in the world to talk about your day with your coworkers? Do you know what real stress is?REI - I would use this as a coaching opportunity. The way this location is handing covid-19 social distanced protocols could not be more inefficient and I feel confident saying this as I’ve been 3-4 times recently; I’ve been a few times because I can never seem to get what I need based on how poorly the store is run. Don’t go unless you’re willing to wait in a 20 minute line (minimum) to get into the store and another 20 minutes (minimum) to check out. Its a toy store for the outdoorsy person. This is a small store so finding what you need is not guaranteed, even if their online inventory shows it is here. Unfortunately, the online inventory was wrong for what I was looking for, so definitely call ahead and confirm. The staff are well, REI staff here are kind of aloof and a little arrogant, not all of them just some of them and it diminishes the shopping experience. Maybe they are just irritated in dealing with the arrogant REI customer type from this area, and I can see that might be the case here. Saratoga - Anti Puppy PatrolDoor greeter wouldn’t let me bring in my small shih tzu puppy (of 2 years old). We drove for over an hour to come to the store and were denied entrance by the door greeter (Winston was his name), He kept insisting my dog wasn’t a support animal, I could probably sue him for even asking me. Anyways….Thank goodness for SPORTS BASEMENT! We drove there and spent over $350 on clothing and the prices were cheaper- (a lot cheaper). My dog is extremely well behaved and trained, it goes with us everywhere, its super calm. At another REI location in the South Bay, almost every employee stopped and talked to our dog. Shopping is usually the fast part, the employees stopping us and petting our dog usually takes longer than the actual shopping. :) Guess we will stay clear of the Saratoga store and just buy from someone else online or from our local Sports Basement. REI Saratoga is great. Located off Saratoga between Quito and West Campbell Ave in the same parking lot as AMC Theaters. This store is a playground for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. The staff is amazingly helpful all the time. I recently went in for a new day pack for upcoming backpacking trip and the staff got me fitted and out of there with a fantastic new pack. The store is single story layout with everything easily found. If you love the outdoors do yourself a favor and sign up as an REI member. Only one fee of $20 dollars and you get money back on many purchases you make that add up on your annual dividend for you to spend later. My only complaint is I wish REI was closer to home.

There was a bit of a miscommunication. Some hard to find items were delivered to the store. But then they were sold to other customers after I didnt pick them up right away. The manager, Alicia, went far out of her way to find the items again and send them directly to my house free of shipping charges.

I’m a customer, I also frequently take friends to buy Patagonia brand there. Entering with my 5lbs therapy dog; basically was kicked out, stating that’s California law. Although the store sells outdoors supplies and dog items (the irony). Will take my business elsewhere

Went to REI with my family on the Saturday of their back room sale. They gave my family one ticket. When it was our turn to go in the room, the REI man said that only the person with the ticked could go in. He did the same thing to many families Many people were upset; not very customer centric. I think he must not have kids.
