The staff was extremely pretentious, didnt actually want to help out, and when I asked them about which film was best to use that will later be projected, the staff recommended rolls that ended up projecting only negatives. When called to ask about it, they pretty much just said Sorry, I wasnt the one to help you. They also kept trying to upcharge me, and trying to take advantage of the fact that I was not super well versed in super 8mm film. Extremely unpleasant to work with. If you plan on filming super 8mm, go somewhere else, because this staff will swindle you out of money with overpriced film with a side of making you feel like a complete idiot.
The good:Prepaid developing and scanning packages are convenient and they have a lot of options.Scans are also pretty good and turnaround times for me have usually been pretty fast.250D has kept me coming back.The bad (& ugly):Unfortunately (and this has been confirmed both by colleagues and other reviewers), the customer service in store is sub-par. Staffs demeanor always makes me feel as though Im seriously inconveniencing them and wasting their time. My friend and girlfriend, both filmmakers, also once tried to pick up a roll of film for me and were met with a rude and condescending interaction that left them set on avoiding this place at all costs.During my last experience, they also simply neglected to mark my order as ready for pick up. I had to call on about day 12 and it ended up having been ready an entire week before (they sent me their automated ready for pick up email as I was on the phone with them and the scan on my hard drive was dated a week before, as well).I was also ignored several times through email regarding lost/unscanned footage and have to this day not received any answers or attempts at help.===Verdict:I purchased about $2000 of film and scanning for a spec commercial I shot earlier this year over the period of a few months. If it wasnt for them offering 250D and a good discount over competitors for first time customers, I would definitely not have dealt with the below average service and even lower overall customer experience. Ill definitely be taking my business elsewhere for all future projects where I dont need 250.Although its more of a 2.5 star review, I wont give them the benefit of the doubt and round up to a 3, as Im sure they wouldnt do the same for me.
Pro8mm is my one stop, go to shop. Every time I receive my film back, I get seconds in and start to tear up.Sending film in always gets me so anxious cause I never know what Ill get back but their work is truly incredible. Always so fast, efficient and communicative. Pro8mm is such a huge part in my business. I can always trust the process with them.I never ever will send my Super8 anywhere else-- I appreciate you all so much!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!
As a hot mess newbie super 8 shooter, I called Pro8mm customer service and was walked very patiently through all the answers to my (probably annoying haha) questions about ordering the film and processing. I ordered their film pack, shot some film of my Dads birthday get together with my new Super8, sent it back to Pro8mm for processing, received my scans back, and then made my family cry (good happy tears) when they saw the results. Thanks for walking me through the process and even with my newbie fumbles, the scans came back so great. Im using this in my add-ons now as a professional photographer, and Im so excited to be able to offer this for sessions and weddings! Thanks Pro8mm for the hand holding and the great products and services.
If, “it isn’t one thing it’s another” was a place, it would pro8mm. Literally every time I send in film here, it’s always delayed due some goofy excuse. The staff isnt the most professional with the exception of a few, and they really take advantage of being the only people who sale film and process/scan. This very well May be the last time I shop with them. I’m left extremely disappointed every time.
If you have precious film to send anywhere, send it to Pro8mm. I recently had Super 8 film processed and developed for a short film, and I was so excited and awe-struck by the work Pro8mm did. The pricing is incredible for the services being provided and the quality is superb. Seriously cannot recommend this organization enough. Trusting someone with your film is serious business, and Pro8mm lives up to the challenge.
I really hate leaving bad reviews, but my experience was so bad that I dont want someone else to experience what I did.The staff is incredibly rude, especially the owner. She literally laughed at me when I asked her to stop raising her voice at me over the phone. Their communication is terrible, I sent them an email regarding an issue with my film scans that they sent me the day the sent it to me and a week went by without a response, so I called them and no one could help me so I was promised a call back. The next day came, no one called, so I called them again and again - this went on for a few days. Every time I called I was promised a call back and every time I never got a call back. And every time I called I had to reexplain what I needed help with. It was really frustrating.Nothing was ever resolved and I was told they were going to send me my film roll back, so I could get it scanned elsewhere & they said they would throw in a new roll of film for compensation - over a month has gone by and I have not received either of those things.I highly suggest looking somewhere to send your film.
Unfortunately there isnt much competition in this arena and they take full advantage of that.. you can pay for and select production quality and then not see that they AUTO SELECT for you the lower quality and so you get cheated out of your money, and worse your project isnt the quality it needs to be. this is completely deceiving.. any decent place would call you if you select a quality that is lower than what you pay for. Ive been working on a year long project and basically spent a downpayment on a house with them, only to find out when we entered post production that we didnt have the quality I paid for that was needed for the film. not only a massive waste of money but also a severely damaged project that Ive poured my heart into. also Ive gotten two of my cameras restored here and they came back worse off than when I dropped them off. they still had dust everywhere in them so no idea if they actually even touched them. they offered to take a look but I dont have the time frame to leave my cameras for that long again.. whats worse is that Ill need to continue going here as there really isnt compition. moral of the story: use them for your processing needs but they do not have your back whatsoever so either triple check and/or have someone (not from pro8) help you fill out the form who knows what to look for
Very easy to find as they have a storefront board above the entrance. Inside, everything is well organised and everybody works like a well oiled machine. Persons that work there are extremely helpful and efficient. Prices are reasonable for their products and services and there is street parking outside. Pro8mm also have a good turn around time for film scans and processing. The staff is very friendly and always welcoming. Overall, I’ve had a really good experience. Highly recommended.
I was very satisfied with these guys. They did a good job developing and digitizing the film. They deliver the digital file via Dropbox. I sent them two rolls of super 8 and they turned them around in two weeks. From arrival to return.One thing they did was splice the two rolls together. Not sure if they do that on all orders or if they recognized that the two rolls are of the same event and spliced them together in the right order.I think normally, if you want rolls spliced together, youd make a note of it in the order and number the rolls before mailing (Dont take my word for that). But I did neither. However, I am happy that they did put the rolls of film together as thats something i would have done since they are of the same event.My only critisms are that they are a little on the expensive side. And that when you order, the default option is to recycle your origination film after developing. Instead you have to make sure you select return shipping if you want the film back. I had to double amd tripple check that I selected the option to return the film since Im always worried that I forget something.So if you have super 8, standard 8, super 16 that needs developed and/or digitized, Id recommend them.
There are almost no film labs in California anymore, so Im very glad this place exists. I always come here with my super 8 and 16mm needs, and they are always fast, helpful and do a great job handling my film. Come here if youre a filmmaker or just need their services.
This company destroyed 2 of our 3 Super-8 wedding tapes. They then failed to explain or apologise for a number of days after it happened. I hate to give small independent businesses negative reviews but, though we have now been given a refund, the irreplacable videos of our wedding day are lost forever.I would strongly advise looking for another company to develop your film.
Probably the best consumer-oriented 8mm specialists in the United States. Ultra high quality 4k log scans. Very flexible staff and services. Shipped my wedding film directly from South Korea. They handled it with utmost sensitivity. Highest recommendation. There is nothing like 8mm in existence. It is so special, digital is so lifeless.
They rescued some ancient 8mm footage for me that was really nice. The process takes a long time but all the info is well-presented on the website and my expectations were met.

I sent my film on a Monday (the 12th), and they received Wednesday (the 14th). I was told turn around time was around 5 days and I would have my file sent over email next Wednesday (the 21st). That timeframe was perfect, as I needed it by Thursday. However, I didnt receive anything until I called on the next Tuesday (the 27th), so I didnt get my video on time. The film itself is fine but they lied to me on the timeframe. If they wouldve been truthful I couldve looked elsewhere. I wouldnt recommend.

This place is so amazing!! Came here to buy my super8 film for my cinematography class!! I shot my film over the weekend and was so nervous as the whole time I couldnt see the picture. My camera was old and used and probably had a bad mirror. I used what I knew about photography to focus every shot even tho I could barely see anything. Pro8 also developed my film. I even found out they can do an image check so I asked them to do that. They said I had images on everything I just had no idea how good. I am so pleased and stunned I cant believe it!! Ronda even came to my class and they gave a presentation. It was so great!! Man it might be a while before I shoot more but seeing the grain on the film I just love the way it looks so amazing!! I can see how a film maker could easily be addicted to this place!! Im pretty sure Ill be coming by here again being in the la area. If say this is a hidden gem of a film spot in la!!
Great people and professional service. Muncie was particularly helpful in troubleshooting a camera test workflow issue for me that will streamline my future film projects with Pro8mm.

I recently received a lot of random super 8 cartridges second hand. In the lot were some Kodak Vision3 cartridges, and some Pro8mm cartridges that I found already had processing pre-paid. I had a company here in Mass process the Vision3, and Pro8mm process their stock. The Massachusetts company took about 2 weeks to process the film, and were bad with communication. I shipped the Pro8mm stock via USPS fist class mail from NH to CA and it took about 3 days to arrive their. They turned it around in a day, called me to confirm everything, and they were super helpful. I will personally vouch for the quality of this company, I was very pleased with their service. I plan to shoot my wedding using Super 8 and will be purchasing ALL my stock from Pro8mm from now on.

I took this with me for a family road trip from CO to California. Pro8mm developed, scanned, and sent everything to me within the 5-7 business day turnaround as promised, and boy did they deliver. Didnt know I was going to get so emotional viewing the footage, but they really truly gave me a gift of memories on a medium that is so nostalgic and special. Will definitely be using the again for my next Super8 filming experience. Thank you so much Pro8mm.

Instead of trying to understand the problem and to help - their customer services was rude. Im using another company that scan my still films and I know what good customer services is and system in order. After years of using Pro 8mm services Im really disappointed and will not recommend using them any longer.
