Always great to come in for brunch, lunch or dinner. We’re always sit at the bar. Mateo and kimmie are always so attentive and makes sure everything is perfect. Great craft beer selections and full bar as well. Endless mimosas are a blast.

Great place to sit and enjoy the beautiful weather and surroundings of San Clemente Beach. Right across from the ocean, you can not ask for a better location. The staff was great, fun and helpful. We tried the Tator tots with clam chowder because it sounded interesting.... it was good but interesting... Will definitely come back for a drink or two and to soak in San Clemente Beach.

Absolutely underwhelming. The servers were super nice, and they explained that there was a change in ownership/leadership, etc.. but thats no excuse for unseasoned, bland food. We had to ask for a salt shaker just to make our dishes palatable. The steak was undercooked and full of hard fat. The chowder tots were literally warmed tater tots over a warm chowder, and that was the best dish we had. We were hoping this was the unseen gem in our trip, but it turned out to be a complete dud.

Sit on porch with son and daughter in law.Nice setting,right at beachside overlooking pier.Waitress was awesome,Have had better breakfast burritos,as I traveled the US as a truck driver Just seemed to be all egg which is filling .Clam chowder was excellent with plenty of clams and creamy not watered down.Son and daughter in law enjoyed being able sit on porch with dog,but I did not notice any water dishes for them as when came was a little hot.All in all very pleasant and enjoyable experience.Would definitely return.

First time coming here. Was excellent. Came for dinner with friends and sat on the patio under the heater looking over the beach - stunning. And they had live music (was a Saturday). Service was excellent (thanks Ashley!) we had oysters and clam chowder tater tots to start, followed by crispy shrimp tacos, and then the seasonal bread pudding. All of it was incredible. If you’re doing dry Jan, recommend the hot toddy minus the bourbon, especially if sitting outside - divine. Will be back.

Usually have good experiences here. Food is okay nothing special, but the FRIED CHICKEN literally is not salted, and if it is… it’s with a pinch. Second time trying it with months apart. Hoping for new food choices in the future.

Friendly waitress and excellent food, plus reasonable prices for the area. Although the service was relatively slow, the food quality made up for it. We got the burger and the chicken sandwich, both delicious. When deciding where to eat close to the pier, this should be your top choice.

Having some dinner with my son. We are here for a few day trip before he starts high school. Good times. The weather has been awesome and accommodations very good. We ate on the pier last night. Tonight we are trying this quaint place! So far it’s awesome. We made reservations for dinner at 6:30 and hoping to eat outside on the small patio. Will update how the food is.

The service (originally) and food was fine… but when we’re checking out we ended up having to change the bill and after she saw her original tip (15% in a group of 5) she added a 20% included gratuity after the fact on the new bill. You don’t just get to change your tip because you don’t like it. we were very nice and fast… there’s no reason for that and for that reason we won’t be coming back.

The food was incredibly fresh and delicious! My family decided food was far superior, we got more bang for our buck vs going to Fishermans. Also, BEST clam chowder we’ve ever had.Just a note to non-cilantro fans: a few of the dishes we had included cilantro. Didn’t bother me, but my mom doesn’t care for it. So, I’d double check before ordering if it is something you don’t like. It came on my mom’s Thai noodles and the calamari.

Love here!!!! I visited here at night on weekday. A DJ played enjoyable music, so everyone danced together:) I drank alcohol and had an appetizer, salad, and fish tacos. All of them were perfect. Especially I liked fish tacos. That was the best fish tacos Ive ever had. Im gonna definitely visit here again.

Took one hour for our meals to come on New Year’s Day. Manager only took one meal off the bill. As I was leaving I said it was a terrible experience in which the hostess and manager laughed at. I preceded to tell the manager to come talk to me about it but he again laughed with the hostess. These people are disgusting and pathetic. But what’s new when you see some dude trying hard to be a bro and a typical OC blonde bimbo. Don’t patron this place. Not worth anything you may have or want.

You are paying for the view, but though this is an ocean facing patio restaurant/bar, you are also off a road so lost of pedestrians, cars, and the hussel of that. Service was great. Food menu options were less than I expected. I got the lobster Benedict as I had heard about it. It was good but I would not come back here for them. The berry french toast was a fabulous dish to break up the savory and more memorable.

The food was good, the service was good, nothing about it was amazing. The atmosphere would be incredible...if there wasnt a loud as heck train going through the beach area what seemed like every 5 minutes. When it comes through, theres a speaker that booms a train whistle over and over again. Its VERY obnoxious. I know its not the fault of the restaurants, but it just ruins the atmosphere of the area. It was beautiful on a sunny day, but the train takes all the wind out of its sails.

Came here on a Saturday for a birthday brunch and we had such a pleasant time. The food and dessert was hands-down delicious and the cocktails were refreshing and great! Russell was our main server and his service was top-notch in a friendly, professional manner. We came here to celebrate my fiancé’s birthday with his family. But believe me when I say, you can’t pay me to come back to this restaurant.The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice- quaint and small.Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable as well.What we ordered:Tempura Green Beans- they were all clumped together like they’d been fried that way. Greasy. Best thing about the dish was the sauce it came with.Brussel Sprouts- this was probably the yummiest thing we ate the whole night. Nice and crispy, flavorful.Bread Pudding- I didn’t try any but the verdict was the ice cream tasted like it was freezer burned and the “bread pudding” was essentially little bread balls that had been soaked.Crème Brûlée Cheesecake- the cheesecake mixture had curdled while it was being made and they still baked it and served. Not crispy on top like a crème brûlée should be and super gritty texture that tasted off.Smash Burger- average. Nothing to write home about. Not really worth the price.Short Ribs- there was a lot of fat on the meat and it wasn’t tender.Fish n Chips- again average. And greasy.Strawberry Feta Salad- I think it says something when salad is one of the only decent items on a menu. It was good.Fish Tacos- greasy, no sauce, they got their fish n chips fillet and put it on a tortilla with some slaw. That’s it.Sea Bass- Here is the MAIN reason I’m writing this review. Please take extreme CAUTION when ordering dishes that have fish. It sounds weird- it being a restaurant by the sea, you’d think they have excellent, or at least decent, seafood. Nope. So I took two bites of this sea bass steak and choked on a fish bone. I had to stick my hand in my mouth to make myself throw up. I could actually feel the bone lodged in the back of my throat. This wasn’t some random fish bone by the way. When we looked at the steak afterwards, the WHOLE thing was filled with bones. Now I love sea bass, I order it A LOT when eating at seafood places. If it’s a whole fish, I already know “watch out for bones” or sometimes the servers will say “please be mindful of possible bones” something like that. It’s assumed that if a restaurant brings you a fish fillet and doesn’t mention anything, it’s been properly deboned. And again, I eat fish a lot. I can forgive the small little bone that the chef didn’t catch. But that’s not what happened here. That steak hadn’t been deboned. It was riddled with bones. And I choked on one. That has NEVER happened to me and it was a horrific experience. Luckily I was with my fiancés family which includes an EMT and a retired fire chief. So they helped me not panic and told me what to do. So please, take proper precautions.The server handled it as best as they could. They took the dish back, took it off our bill and offered something else. But I couldn’t eat anything. One because I didn’t trust it and two because my throat was so sore and scratchy. I tried to order a small salad but couldn’t even swallow. I stuck with sipping hot tea. Even today, a day later, my throat is hoarse. They were apologetic and it’s not the server’s fault. No manager came out, I don’t know if there was one but they offered us a free dessert, which we said “oh it’s his birthday yeah we’ll try the bread pudding” and then we ordered an extra dessert for us. I didn’t eat that night.I won’t go back to this restaurant. Ever again.

Though the views from this restaurant are sublime, the food, service, and atmosphere did not match accordingly. We could barely hear the waitress and each other due to the overly loud music and poor acoustics. Almost every item we ordered lacked a key ingredient advertised. The ponzu chicken, for example, was served without any ponzu sauce and was, as one would expect, very dry. It was very disappointing, especially after waiting over an hour for the food. I hope the staff can figure out how to maintain a functioning restaurant amidst a menu shift.

We live locally and have been to Pierside many times, although not in the past year. We ordered the ceviche which in the past has always been excellent. However, this time what we got was some Pico de Gallo with one or two cooked shrimp cut up in it for $21. No hint of the lime juice thats supposed to be used to cook the shrimp. This local for one wont be back.

It took 40 minutes to get a salad with grilled chicken. It was not busy - 5 tables with about 15 people (i had time to count). Perhaps they were understaffed. Recommend the raspberry lemonade (made in-house, fresh and tart), chilaquiles (add the chorizo!), and berry waffles (although it does not come with real maple syrup). Portions are on the smaller side, so splitting will be hard if you’re hungry.

The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because of our waitress (Lacey I believe is her name) was very kind and sweet and attentive! If only her coworkers were just as kind as her this restaurant might have better business. My best friend just moved to San Diego so we were looking for a restaurant that we can start meeting at between San Diego and LA. My friends arrived to the restaurant and decided to sit outside. Once I arrived I noticed that the umbrella wasn’t covering the entire table and I kindly asked the hostess if there was another umbrella that could be added to the table or if there was a way to tilt the umbrella. The hostess wasn’t sure, but she asked a waitress named Dani and she was so rude and dry towards me and eventually stopped talking halfway through the conversation and started speaking to another waiter? The hostess was very apologetic and advised that we could sit inside if we would like. Once we sat inside our very kind waitress started helping us and taking our order. I ordered the chilaquiles and double checked to make sure there was no meat on it as I am a vegetarian. Our waitress assured me that there isn’t, and put our order in. 5 minutes later Lacey gave me the news that the kitchen ran out of it and that I could put something else in. I decided to order the breakfast nachos and again advised that I can’t have any meat. She came around about 10 min later and advised that the last call for the kitchen was coming and the kitchen would be closing soon. Our food came and I immediately dived in because I was starving! There was bacon on the plate! Heart crushed as soon as I saw it. My friend waved Dani down as our waitress was attending another table. I then advised her that there was bacon and that I’m a vegetarian. Her response? Just as rude and dry as my first interaction with her“The menu says that there is meat on the item! Um there’s nothing I can do about it the kitchen is closed.” Okay? I’ve never been so annoyed with a waiter that I was willing to wait for my waiter! That’s two interactions with her and she was rude to me. I don’t know if this has anything to do with me being a person of color, because she was certainly nice to other customers there. So for that, we WILL NOT be returning. I’ve never had such a horrid experience before and I live in LA! I always do my best to be kind to people who work in the service industry because I’ve worked in it before and my fiancé works in the industry as well. But she either doesn’t enjoy her job or has something personal when it comes to people of color.

Called in to make a reservation for 10 people. They had to ask the manager but eventually took our reservation. Which I thought was weird cause when we got there, there was like barely any people inside. We ordered a bunch appetizers to share and entrees. For appetizers, we got the ahi poke nachos, shrimp ceviche, calamari and 1 dozen raw oysters. The oysters were fresh, calamari was tasty and crispy and ahi poke was good. Only the shrimp ceviche was a bit weird. It had a interesting flavor different than usual ceviche. I would pass on this one. The appetizers came out quickly which was nice cause we were starving.However, for our entrees it took a while. They told us up front that the entrees will take a while cause they just put in a large order before us. However, we didnt see them serve any entrees to others while we waited and I had read previous reviews that entrees in general just take a long time. We were there with 2 kids so they eventually passed out before the entrees came. For entrees I ordered the tomato bisque and foccacia grilled cheese. Others in my group got the fish and chips, chicken plate, burger plate and the clam chowder. My entrée was a miss. The tomato bisque just tasted like really thick tomato paste and my foccacia barely had any cheese and was hard. I would pass on this plate. The burger was good, nothing special. The clam chowder was good as well as the fish and chips. The chicken entrée was ok but the fried broccoli was covered in a lot of batter. Prices were ok in a highly touristy area.Service was ok. They refilled our waters and checked up on us. It was sorta hot inside though. Not strong enough AC. We did go during the heat wave though. There is only street metered parking or at the nearby paid lot. If your lucky you might find free parking in the residential streets. There is no reception inside the restaurant on my tmobile phone but the hotel the restaurant is in offers free wi-fi. There is a gelato place right next door if you want dessert. The restaurant is located right across from the San Clemente pier.

Pretty disappointed in our experience. I have wanted to go here for so long and finally was able to go to celebrate my best friend getting a new job. There was maybe one or two other tables that were full during our time. When we arrived the hostess was chatting at the bar with another co worker, saw us, then continued to talk until maybe a manager told her to help us. Throughout our dinner we had to keep asking for someone to get our server to order drinks and food. For the price of dinner, I do feel like we should have had better service. The food was good, and the drinks good as well- but nothing exciting. I normally don’t give low reviews but this was a really disappointing experience.

Our waiter, Tim was very lacking in the service. Food was brought out any the wrong times, had to ask for utensils more than four times, was never checked on during our meal, and when it was time to leave, he said that we were a problem from the start and to just pay our bill and to F-off! When we asked for the manager he told us that there was no manager. He was aggressive and angry.. When we told him that we wouldnt pay the bill until we talked to a manager, the bartender/manager came out. She was very nice and apologetic for his behavior. I know service industry is suffering right now with staff shortages but man this guy was out of his mind. Not sure we will ever go back.

The worst food I’ve had in San Clemente. It’s almost impressive how the chef could mess up literally every single item we ordered. Calamari were inedible. I’m not exaggerating when I say that they had the consistency of (well worn) leather and I’m not lying when I say that they were the worst calamari I’ve ever come across. Brussel sprouts were undercooked, almost raw. Fried artichoke were 100% frozen, probably from Walmart. I mean, why would they even have this on the menu??As for the main dish, we had 3 burgers, every single one overcooked by a lot. Burnt and completely dry. All the produce used was old and terrible. One of us had diarrhoea all night, the other two just felt nauseous. I have no idea how this place has customers. Maybe the chef that night had a stroke or something. I’d like to have given one extra star for the service, but the food was so bad that I can’t get myself to do it. Taco Bell, McDonald’s, 7 Eleven would have been much better choices for dinner

Not really the type of person to leave reviews but this.. this has to be heard.Just had a terrible experience here we didn’t get our entrée and our appetizer was just disappointing after waiting almost an hour for it while the table literally 1 foot next to us got their appetizer, entrée, paid the bill, and left before we got our stale appetizer. The staff was respectful and friendly, the manager was professional however our server was just clueless.I have patience for restaurant employees, as I am one myself, however, this is just unacceptable on every level.

The chicken sandwich was awesome, good sweet potato fries, great fish & chips, great clam chowder. Good beer selection as well. I love the sweet potato frys too. our server was very nice and we were able to get the fish and chips even though they were serving off the brunch menu when we came in... We found parking on the street in front, but there is a large community lot available as well. I love the central location of this place too... we went right out the front door and out for a stroll on the pier. Check these guys out next time you are in San Clemente... I know we will.

What a great spot! My wife and I were visiting for a long weekend in the Summer and visited Pierside twice. The bartenders were excellent at making craft cocktails and were willing to share recipes. We visit this restaurant when my husband has WSA surf contests at the San Clemente Pier. This restaurant never has a wait (which is weird to me since its so close to the beach). I cant speak to the quality of the food, as this post is primarily in regards to this establishments service and treatment of is guests. I visited the restaurant for brunch with my boyfriend on Superbowl Sunday earlier this year, and - although the restaurant was a bit full - we were seated by the host within a couple of minutes after checking in. Once they seated us, one of the bussers came to offer us water, and after that, everything went downhill. We were literally *never* approached by a waiter to come take our orders (despite repeated attempts to get the staffs attention), and we had started there waiting to be seen at our table for over 40 minutes. They even seated a party next to us (same two-person size), took their orders, and had them served before we finally were so fed up with their clearly intentional avoidance that we left. During the entire time we were patiently waiting to be attended to, we noticed that other tables that had been served had issues with either the bill they were charged or the food they had received (some combination of wrong orders and unsatisfying food quality). The only reason I can think of as to why they never served us is that we were the only patrons of color in the entire restaurant at that time, and I truly felt like we were being singled out for it as if I had gone back in time to the civil rights era. Maybe the food is good, but the terrible, seemingly discriminatory service really should be reason enough not to come here. I would not recommend to anyone who values their time or being treated with respect, and would never return on principle. Even if the issue was just one incompetent employee that was ill- equipped to do his job, I fault management as well for allowing this kind of behavior and poor, inconsistent customer service standards along its employees.

Service takes REALLY long (10+ minutes for water), 15 minutes for a cocktail & bottomless mimosas means you should never see the bottom of your glass. We had to chase the servers down for everything. On the visit yesterday, it was for a friends birthday. Due to the slow service, we werent done with our meal until 2:45 (reservations at 12:30), only to be told that the kitchen was closed so we couldnt order dessert. The waitress said there was last call at 1:30 and we hadnt asked for anything in over an hour. There was no announcement and we couldnt ask anything of a non-existent waitress, yet this was somehow our fault? Very unprofessional, we wont be back for a while.

I had the single worst restaurant experience of my life at this restaurant. It was so bad it resulted in me calling the police.We called ahead and asked if we needed a reservation around noon. We were meeting my mother for her 65th birthday in San Clemente, and chose this restaurant because it had a patio that allowed dogs. We were told we did not need a reservation.My wife, mother, and I arrived at about 1:30, and were told by a young hostess that we would need to wait. So we ordered drinks and waited for an hour. The hostess never said anything to us during this time. We never informed that we could sit inside with our dog. We were left alone to sit for an hour.At the end of the hour, I went inside to check our table, at which point we were told that we couldnt eat there anymore because the kitchen was closed. This was clearly a huge error on the part of Pierside. We asked to talk to the manager, at which point Owner/Manager Keon Nayebdadash appeared to talk to us.Instead of apologizing profusely for their error and their miscommunication, he became visibly furious and got in our faces (yes, including my fiance and 65 year old mother). This is a huge man, yelling at us and asking us if we want to take it outside. My mom explained that it was her birthday and he said, I dont care about the context, in her face. One of his employees said, You better watch out, he knows the police! It was the most shocking and incredible experience I have had in years.We left the restaurant and retreated to a cheap pizza joint down the street where we had my mothers 65th Birthday meal. We called the police because we were so rattled, but they were not able to do anything.Long story short, dont go to this restaurant unless you want your family bullied by a scary thug manager who has no business 1000 miles from a customer service job.
